The movie kicks off with some singing—more singing in the first minute than in the entire runtime of a movie ABOUT MUSICAL THEATER! Everyone loves it. Violette's dad comes up to her afterward with an envelope full of cash from the townsfolk. They're pumped that one of their own is going to Broadway! Cut to New York, and we get MORE singing! We're at this bar, and a dude is up there just straight vibing. It's Alex, and he's actually a waiter who has to get back to work!
Alex's cousin, Brad, shows up, and Alex's boss, Hazel, is not happy to see him. She says whatever you do, do not give him money until he pays his tab. Alex is busy, busy, busy, but he really wants to be a playwright.
Violette gets to New York and is shocked to find out that the tour has been canceled. Investors pulled out. She's crushed. Lucky for her, her aunt's best friend is...HAZEL! So she shows up at the bar right in the middle of Hazel's big number. Hazel is shocked to see her—it’s been a long time. Hazel says you have two choices: go back home and sell insurance or thicken your skin and figure it out. Violette is like, "Well, how about I work for you?" Hazel is like, "I don't think you can handle it, but I'll give you a shot." She also introduces her to Rae, who just lost her roommate.
The next day, Hazel introduces Violette to the rest of the crew, and Alex is less than thrilled to have her, especially since she's getting to sing so quickly. She gets up there and sings "O Holy Night"—the flute player shows off—and the crowd goes nuts. As she’s singing, Brad walks in and is just jaw-dropped.
Hazel comes up on stage and announces that Violette is going to be closing the Christmas Eve show with Alex, so get your tickets now! Brad talks to Alex and says he has to introduce him to this girl. If things work out with her, maybe he’ll even move out of your apartment! So Alex is in.
In a shocking development, Violette is actually interested in ALEX! Violette has also been lying to her dad about the show because she doesn't want to disappoint him.
Violette and Alex meet up to work on the Christmas Eve number. They argue about which song to sing and somehow land on "Santa Baby." Brad is out on the town and sees his ex, lying and telling her that he's dating someone named Violette.
He gets back to his apartment, and Violette is there with Alex, and they have just the weirdest first impression. That weird first impression leads to an even weirder first phone call. But on that phone call, Brad gets Alex to set up a double date with him and his fake girlfriend, their neighbor June.
So they all meet up at the Festival of Christmas Trees, and Violette asks Brad what his favorite musical is. So, obviously, he runs over and asks Alex for advice on what he should say. Basically, all of Brad's best stuff is actually just Alex's.
The next day, Violette and Alex have to go deliver baskets to a senior center, and they sing some songs. That's when they stumble into their Christmas Eve duet—"The Christmas Song." They crush it.
Back at the apartment, Brad is fishing for advice on what he should do with Violette on Christmas Eve. He recommends taking her to "The Nutcracker," since she said she sees it at her dad's every year.
After a failed audition, Alex and Violette walk around the city and talk about life, giving each other some advice. Clearly falling for her, Alex makes Violette a yule log because she made one every year back home. She shows up, and Brad takes all the credit for it. She even thanks him with a kiss! Alex walks in while they’re kissing. Whomp, whomp. But she is deeply bothered by Brad falling asleep during "The Nutcracker."
At work, Alex shows Violette a little of the show he's writing, and she inspires him to finish it! Brad comes up with the idea that they should go caroling, which really moves Violette, and she kisses him again. But when she sees Alex sing "Silent Night," she's clearly moved. And who wouldn't be?
After receiving flowers from Brad, she tells Alex that while Brad is a great guy, she doesn't think he's her great guy. Alex's eyes light up like a Christmas tree. She calls and breaks things off.
It's Christmas Eve, and they're about to perform. Violette is shocked to see that her dad is here. She goes outside to catch her breath. As she's doing that, she overhears an argument between Brad and Alex and finds out that Alex was feeding Brad all the information. She tells them both off, but uh oh, it’s time to perform.
She gets on stage and can’t do it. She runs off. Alex goes to talk to her, but she doesn't want to talk to him. She just wants her dad! Her dad gives a great pep talk like all good TV dads do.
It's Christmas morning. Brad gives Alex the best Christmas gift—the gift of going away forever.
Violette has a note slid under her door to meet at the bar at 5 PM. She shows up, and Hazel set up a do-over...in front of a Broadway producer...on Christmas Day!!!
So she and Alex make up, and they decide to sing the original song from Alex's musical, and it’s a musical bop that I still can't get out of my mind...WHO KNEW, WHO KNEW IT'D BE YOU, WHO KNEW IT'D BE YOU THIS CHRISTMASSSSS. The producer loves it. And Alex and Violette kiss as the drummer looks down at his drum set because he thinks kisses are icky. The movie ends with a bunch of headlines about their Broadway smash hit.

[00:00:01] Hi, I'm Brian and I love Hallmark Christmas movies. I'm Brian, I like Hallmark Christmas movies. I'm Dan and I despise Hallmark Christmas movies and this is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast. Deck The Hallmark, it's this podcast. And Friends host this podcast. We hope you like this jolly podcast. Alrighty everybody, hello. I thought you were going to say all rise. All rise. It is election day. Cheers.
[00:00:38] I don't really know what that has to do with all rising, but let's all rise and head to the polls. And I think it's important that we all make the right choice and buy Christmas Movie Magic. Christmas Movie Magic is on sale right now and the people that have gotten it, rave reviews so far for Christmas Movie Magic. A lot of people, we've been hearing from people that have started to play it and they're like, this is revolutionizing the way in which I watch these movies.
[00:01:06] Because not only... Two families have broken up. We already have two divorces over Christmas Movie Magic.
[00:01:10] Well, yes, but we've also put a couple together. Three or four marriages. So it's a net positive.
[00:01:14] It's a net positive overall. It's a really, really good time. We would love for you to get it and play it and then share on social media that you sharing it. And then we'll do that as well. It's a lot of fun. DeckTheHomer.com slash game.
[00:01:29] Oh, okay. Back up and running?
[00:01:30] It's back up.
[00:01:31] Oh, DeckTheHomer.com slash game.
[00:01:32] We lost it for a while?
[00:01:33] I don't know if we ever lost it per se, as we didn't have it.
[00:01:37] We know.
[00:01:39] But DeckTheHomer.com slash game is available.
[00:01:41] Right now on the old Amazon, we would love for you to make that choice. If you're going to make any choice today, make it this one and the other ones, I guess. Important choices to make today.
[00:01:51] Yeah.
[00:01:52] Including what are you going to read tonight, Dan? What are you going to read tonight?
[00:01:55] What am I going to read tonight? What are you talking about?
[00:01:58] Oh, so many books to read, Brian. I would probably read to my kids when they go to bed a book called When's It Going to Be Christmas Again.
[00:02:05] I can tell you since one of these kids is one of the kids the book has written about, this weekend, Halloween, we had a Halloween party.
[00:02:12] And as soon as everybody left the Halloween party, he got his Buddy the Elf costume on announcing that Christmas was here and it was Christmas again.
[00:02:20] Perfect.
[00:02:21] So it's now time to read that book.
[00:02:22] And luckily he has an Uncle Bran that's put in the work.
[00:02:26] Yeah.
[00:02:26] You put in the work.
[00:02:26] And you put the work you put in on your house, Bran.
[00:02:29] I put in the work.
[00:02:30] I mean...
[00:02:30] I put in the work and a vlog is coming soon.
[00:02:32] I was able to collaborate with the Christmas Light Emporium.
[00:02:36] I mean, you can tell.
[00:02:38] And basically my thought process was, am I able to decorate my house like a professional would?
[00:02:45] And so I went to the professional Christmas Light Shop and they hooked me up.
[00:02:50] And I feel really good about it.
[00:02:52] So that vlog's coming soon.
[00:02:53] It's hard to talk about how good your house looks this year without it sounding like how bad your house looked in prior years.
[00:02:59] In previous years, yeah.
[00:03:00] And the thing about your prior year decorations was there was a lot of charm involved.
[00:03:04] A lot of charm.
[00:03:05] This is just great.
[00:03:06] What you have going on this year is great, Bran.
[00:03:09] Very excited.
[00:03:09] Thank you.
[00:03:10] Thank you.
[00:03:10] And I'm excited for everybody to see it.
[00:03:11] There's no inflatables for me to steal.
[00:03:13] I mean, for someone to steal.
[00:03:14] Someone.
[00:03:15] I mean, I could...
[00:03:16] I was offered by one of the double deckers a bunch of inflatables.
[00:03:21] So maybe I will get them and then just put them in your yard.
[00:03:24] Okay.
[00:03:24] That'll be fun.
[00:03:25] Go for it.
[00:03:25] That'll be a fun thing.
[00:03:26] Plugged up to your outlets.
[00:03:28] Yeah, I guess so.
[00:03:30] A couple of things really quickly.
[00:03:32] We're talking about a Carol for Two today, which reminds me, because there's like a singing and a Broadway and whatnot.
[00:03:39] A singing and a Broadway, yes.
[00:03:40] How amazing the Peace Center is in, yeah, that Greenville because of all the Broadway shows that come through.
[00:03:46] But also like concerts, like John Legend is coming to Greenville this December for a Christmas show.
[00:03:51] People think that Greenville is some run-of-the-mill small town.
[00:03:54] And I say, no, sir, no, sir.
[00:03:55] No, sir, no, sir.
[00:03:56] I saw Weird Al Yankovic and Patton Oswalt at the Peace Center.
[00:03:59] I mean, come on.
[00:04:00] They bring in everybody.
[00:04:00] Come on.
[00:04:01] So if this movie inspired you to go and like support the arts, Greenville's got a lot of arts.
[00:04:09] Yeah, we do.
[00:04:09] We've got a lot of arts in Greenville from small theaters to the Children's Theater to the Peace Center.
[00:04:14] We've got it all covered.
[00:04:15] So it's a lot of fun out there.
[00:04:17] Carol for Two.
[00:04:18] Shall we talk about it?
[00:04:19] I would love to.
[00:04:20] Great.
[00:04:20] We watched it on Philo, of course.
[00:04:22] Philo.
[00:04:23] Of course.
[00:04:23] DTH.
[00:04:24] On the Hallmark Channel on November 1st, 2024.
[00:04:28] Some might say that's when the real season starts.
[00:04:31] Some might say it doesn't start until after Thanksgiving.
[00:04:34] So this is for all different pockets here.
[00:04:37] We've got them all covered.
[00:04:38] Check your pockets.
[00:04:39] The keys there.
[00:04:40] Poggle Watch.
[00:04:41] Oh, it's back for this episode only.
[00:04:44] We'll get to that in a little bit.
[00:04:45] November 1st, 2024 on the Hallmark Channel.
[00:04:51] Went a little something like this.
[00:04:51] The movie kicks off with some singing.
[00:04:53] More singing in the first minute than the entire runtime of a movie about musical theater that we watched last weekend.
[00:05:00] Everyone loves the singing.
[00:05:03] Violet's dad comes up to her and hands her an envelope full of cash.
[00:05:08] He says, don't ask.
[00:05:09] I got this money on the up and up.
[00:05:12] Don't ask.
[00:05:14] He's like, I got the town all chipped in.
[00:05:17] We're so excited for you.
[00:05:18] We're pumped that one of our own is heading to Broadway.
[00:05:21] Cut to New York and we get more singing.
[00:05:25] We are at this bar and a dude is up there.
[00:05:28] He is just straight vibing.
[00:05:30] His name is Alex and he's actually a waiter.
[00:05:33] He doesn't just perform.
[00:05:34] He's a waiter and occasionally he sings as well.
[00:05:38] But he's got to get back to work.
[00:05:39] Alex's cousin Brad shows up and Alex's boss Hazel is not happy to see Brad.
[00:05:45] She says, whatever you do, don't give him anything until he pays his tab.
[00:05:51] Alex, though, he's busy, busy, busy.
[00:05:53] All he wants to do is be a playwright.
[00:05:55] He's writing his own stuff.
[00:05:56] But he's also got to work.
[00:05:57] What can you do?
[00:05:58] Violet gets to New York and she is shocked to find out that the tour has been canceled.
[00:06:04] What?
[00:06:05] Investors pulled out.
[00:06:06] You hate to see it.
[00:06:06] She's crushed.
[00:06:07] Lucky for her, her aunt's best friend is Hazel.
[00:06:12] She shows up at the bar right in the middle of Hazel's big number.
[00:06:16] Number.
[00:06:17] I just had a hiccup.
[00:06:18] I'm having a tough one.
[00:06:20] Hazel's big morning.
[00:06:22] Hazel is.
[00:06:23] Larry the elf?
[00:06:24] Is that you?
[00:06:25] Oh, it is.
[00:06:26] It is election.
[00:06:29] It's Christmas morning.
[00:06:29] It's election day.
[00:06:30] I got started early.
[00:06:31] I got started early.
[00:06:33] So Hazel shall vote off in Hong Kong.
[00:06:37] Yes.
[00:06:38] Election fraud, Hong Kong.
[00:06:41] The worst kind.
[00:06:42] A good reminder.
[00:06:43] Larry on Christmas morning is a neocon.
[00:06:46] That's what's crazy.
[00:06:47] A good reminder.
[00:06:48] They're going to get the dogs on.
[00:06:49] Oh, no.
[00:06:50] A good reminder.
[00:06:51] Christmas morning is daily now, everybody.
[00:06:53] Yeah, it is.
[00:06:53] Christmas morning.
[00:06:54] Subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.
[00:06:55] He makes it fun.
[00:06:56] We love him.
[00:06:57] That five seconds of Larry goes a long way.
[00:07:01] Hazel says you have two choices, kiddo.
[00:07:04] Go back home and sell insurance or something like that or thicken your skin and figure it out.
[00:07:10] Violet's like, well, how about I work for you?
[00:07:13] She's figuring it out.
[00:07:14] Hazel is like, I don't think you can handle it, but it's worth a shot.
[00:07:17] She also introduces her to Ray, who works there and just lost her roommate.
[00:07:23] That works out well.
[00:07:23] The next day, Hazel introduces Violet to the rest of the crew, and Alex is less than thrilled
[00:07:28] to have her, especially since she gets to sing so quickly.
[00:07:33] You've usually got to work your way up to that.
[00:07:34] Don't make her sing.
[00:07:35] She gets up there and sings Oh Holy Night.
[00:07:38] The flute player shows off a little bit in there.
[00:07:41] Flouting around.
[00:07:41] He's flouting around.
[00:07:43] And the crowd goes nuts.
[00:07:45] As she's singing, Brad walks in and his jaw drops.
[00:07:51] Hazel comes up on stage and announces that Violet is going to be closing the Christmas
[00:07:56] Eve show with Alex.
[00:07:58] Get your tickets now.
[00:07:59] It's a ticket event.
[00:08:03] Brad talks to Alex.
[00:08:06] Tickets.
[00:08:07] Get your tickets here.
[00:08:07] Oh, no.
[00:08:09] Tickets.
[00:08:09] Get your tickets here.
[00:08:10] Cold beer.
[00:08:11] Cold beer.
[00:08:12] Cotton candy.
[00:08:13] Nerd rope.
[00:08:14] Nerd rope here.
[00:08:15] Hey, guy.
[00:08:16] Hey, guy.
[00:08:17] Nerd rope.
[00:08:17] Nerd rope on the end there.
[00:08:18] Nerd rope.
[00:08:20] Hey, ticket guy.
[00:08:21] 5.50.
[00:08:22] Change for 20.
[00:08:23] Nerd rope.
[00:08:24] 5.50.
[00:08:25] Hey, ticket guy.
[00:08:26] Pass it down.
[00:08:27] Just give me a 10 back.
[00:08:27] Tickets.
[00:08:28] Get your tickets here.
[00:08:29] Hey, ticket guy.
[00:08:30] How about you come back tomorrow?
[00:08:32] Tickets.
[00:08:32] We're going on a train.
[00:08:34] There's a guy that takes your tickets.
[00:08:35] Be back tomorrow.
[00:08:35] Sure, he'll be here.
[00:08:36] All right.
[00:08:36] We'll get your tickets there.
[00:08:38] Nerd rope.
[00:08:38] We'll just shut the door here.
[00:08:39] Are you selling nerd rope?
[00:08:40] Who are you voting for?
[00:08:42] Third party.
[00:08:43] Oh, wow.
[00:08:44] Get your tickets here.
[00:08:45] Jill Stein here.
[00:08:46] Jill Stein.
[00:08:47] Jill Stein.
[00:08:48] Jill Stein, the science gal.
[00:08:53] Anyway, sorry.
[00:08:54] We're having fun here today, aren't we?
[00:08:56] I like his ticket.
[00:08:58] He's writing in on his ticket.
[00:09:00] Brad talks.
[00:09:01] I love a nerd rope in a minute.
[00:09:02] I love a nerd.
[00:09:03] He's got a nerd clusters.
[00:09:05] Oh, the gummy clusters.
[00:09:05] I think they kind of push the nerd rope out.
[00:09:07] The nerd rope is out.
[00:09:08] The gummy clusters.
[00:09:09] If you really think about it, the cluster is just a rope.
[00:09:12] Cut.
[00:09:12] Right?
[00:09:13] It's just the gummy cluster.
[00:09:16] Are we sponsored?
[00:09:17] We're not.
[00:09:18] I'm just showing you how good they are.
[00:09:19] That's all.
[00:09:20] That's all I'm doing.
[00:09:20] The gummy cluster is.
[00:09:21] Hey, red and green.
[00:09:22] Take your pick.
[00:09:22] Red and blue.
[00:09:23] Take your pick.
[00:09:23] I think they're all together.
[00:09:24] Which side are you picking?
[00:09:25] I know.
[00:09:25] You were still undecided.
[00:09:26] There's no green there.
[00:09:27] You were still undecided.
[00:09:28] So let's see what you get.
[00:09:29] You're going to decide via.
[00:09:30] This is going to decide your vote?
[00:09:32] Wow.
[00:09:32] It's all together.
[00:09:33] It's all one.
[00:09:34] Oh, you know what?
[00:09:34] Very confusing.
[00:09:35] Wouldn't it be nice if America was like that again?
[00:09:37] No.
[00:09:38] Wouldn't it?
[00:09:38] So.
[00:09:40] That's one of the dumbest things you've ever said.
[00:09:41] I know.
[00:09:42] So Brad talks to Alex and says that he has to introduce her to this girl.
[00:09:48] If things work out with her, maybe he'll even move out of his apartment.
[00:09:53] So Alex is in.
[00:09:56] And in a shocking development, Violet is actually interested in Alex.
[00:10:00] Violet has also been lying to her dad about the show because she doesn't want to disappoint him.
[00:10:07] Violet and Alex meet up to work on the Christmas Eve number.
[00:10:10] They argue about which song to sing, and somehow the best they can come up with at the time is Santa Baby.
[00:10:16] Really bad choice.
[00:10:18] Brad is out on the town and sees his ex, lies, and tells her that he's dating someone named Violet.
[00:10:26] He gets back to his apartment, and Violet is there with Alex, and they have the weirdest first impression of all time.
[00:10:33] That weird first impression leads to an even weirder first phone call between Brad and Violet.
[00:10:40] But on that phone call, Brad gets Alex to set up a double date with them and Alex and a fake girlfriend.
[00:10:49] June.
[00:10:50] Their neighbor, June.
[00:10:50] Yeah, that's right.
[00:10:51] June Bug.
[00:10:52] Hey, June.
[00:10:52] Hey, June.
[00:10:53] June for Lee.
[00:10:54] June for Lee.
[00:10:54] Get in here.
[00:10:56] You know you got a date, Alex.
[00:10:59] Good boy.
[00:11:00] June for Lee.
[00:11:00] Good boy.
[00:11:01] Good boy.
[00:11:02] So they all meet up at the Festival of Christmas Trees, and Violet asks Brad what his favorite musical is.
[00:11:09] So obviously he runs over and asks Alex for advice on what he should say.
[00:11:13] Basically, all of Brad's best stuff is actually just Alex's.
[00:11:18] The next day, Violet and Alex have to go.
[00:11:21] It's a Cyrano de Bradiac situation.
[00:11:23] Of course it is.
[00:11:24] Took the words right out of my mouth.
[00:11:25] You said it.
[00:11:28] Cyrano de Bergeron.
[00:11:30] Yes.
[00:11:30] De Bergeron.
[00:11:31] Is that right?
[00:11:32] Nope.
[00:11:34] Cedric.
[00:11:34] Cedric.
[00:11:35] Cedric the Entertainer.
[00:11:36] Yeah.
[00:11:37] It's Cedric the Entertainer.
[00:11:38] Got it.
[00:11:38] Would watch a Cedric the Entertainer's Cyrano de Bradiac situation.
[00:11:41] The next day, Violet and Alex have to go deliver baskets to a senior center, and they sing some songs.
[00:11:48] And that's when they stumble upon their Christmas Eve duet, the Christmas song.
[00:11:52] A much better choice over Santa Baby.
[00:11:54] They crush it.
[00:11:55] Back at the apartment, Brad is fishing for advice on what he should do with Violet on Christmas Eve.
[00:12:03] He recommends taking her to the Nutcracker since she sees it every year with her dad.
[00:12:10] After a failed audition, Alex and Violet walk around the city, talk about life, giving each other some advice.
[00:12:17] Clearly falling for her, Alex makes Violet a Yule log because she makes one every year back at home.
[00:12:23] She shows up, and Brad is there doing a little salt bae with the peppermint and takes all the credits for the Yule log.
[00:12:31] She even thanks him with a kiss.
[00:12:34] Alex walks in while they're kissing.
[00:12:35] Womp womp.
[00:12:36] But she is deeply bothered by Brad falling asleep during the Nutcracker.
[00:12:43] Is this guy really the same guy that has all these good answers and whatnot?
[00:12:48] At work, Alex shows Violet a little of the show that he's writing, and she inspires him to finish it.
[00:12:56] Brad comes up with an idea that they should go caroling, which really moves Violet.
[00:13:01] And she kisses him again.
[00:13:03] She always thanks him with a kiss, which is something.
[00:13:09] It's a Midwestern.
[00:13:10] It's very transactional.
[00:13:11] Thank you.
[00:13:13] Have a good day.
[00:13:15] But when she sees Alex sing Silent Night, she's clearly moved.
[00:13:19] Maybe it is him that I should be kissing.
[00:13:21] Thank you.
[00:13:23] After receiving flowers from Brad, she tells Alex that while Brad is a great guy, she doesn't think that he's her guy.
[00:13:32] Alex's eyes light up like a Christmas tree.
[00:13:35] She calls and breaks things off.
[00:13:37] It's Christmas Eve, and they're about to perform.
[00:13:39] Violet is shocked to see her dad is there.
[00:13:44] She goes outside to catch her breath, and as she's doing that, she overhears an argument between Brad and Alex and finds out that Alex has been feeding Brad all of the information.
[00:13:53] She tells both of them off, but uh-oh, it's time to perform.
[00:13:57] Whoa.
[00:13:58] Oh, boy.
[00:13:59] Oh, boy.
[00:14:00] I'm going to make it up to you.
[00:14:01] She gets on stage.
[00:14:02] I hear the rockets.
[00:14:06] She gets on stage, but she can't do it.
[00:14:08] She runs off.
[00:14:09] Alex goes to talk to her, but she doesn't want to talk to him.
[00:14:12] She just wants to talk to her dad.
[00:14:14] Her dad gives her a great pep talk like any good TV dad would.
[00:14:19] It's Christmas morning.
[00:14:21] Brad gives Alex the best Christmas gift he could ever give him, the gift of going away forever.
[00:14:27] Violet has a note slid under her door to meet up at the bar at 5 p.m.
[00:14:36] She shows up, and Hazel set up a do-over in front of a Broadway producer.
[00:14:42] On Christmas Day, you love to see it.
[00:14:45] So she and Alex make up, and they decide to sing the original song from Alex's musical.
[00:14:52] And it is a bop, I must say.
[00:14:55] Who knew?
[00:14:56] Who knew?
[00:14:57] Who knew?
[00:14:58] Who knew?
[00:14:59] Who knew?
[00:15:00] Something like that, right?
[00:15:01] Very close.
[00:15:02] Do you remember how it goes?
[00:15:04] No.
[00:15:04] Do you remember how it goes?
[00:15:06] Who knew?
[00:15:07] Who knew it was you?
[00:15:08] Who knew it was you?
[00:15:09] It's Christmas.
[00:15:11] Who knew?
[00:15:12] Ha!
[00:15:12] Ha!
[00:15:12] Who knew it'd be you?
[00:15:14] Who knew it'd be you?
[00:15:16] It's Christmas.
[00:15:17] The producer loves it.
[00:15:19] That's the right.
[00:15:19] And Alex and Violet kiss.
[00:15:21] Thank you.
[00:15:21] As the drummer looks down at his drum set because he thinks kisses are icky, the movie
[00:15:27] ends with a bunch of headlines that their Broadway show is a smash hit.
[00:15:31] Who knew?
[00:15:32] And that, my friends, was The Carol for Two.
[00:15:38] We did it.
[00:15:39] We did it.
[00:15:40] Let's take a quick break.
[00:15:40] We'll come back, and we will talk about A Carol for Two here on Deck the Hallmark.
[00:15:52] Mom, Dad, is this a joke?
[00:15:54] Dan, is there a movie that you and I quote more than Home Alone?
[00:15:58] Oh, it's got to be top one.
[00:16:00] I think so.
[00:16:00] Yeah, it's the best.
[00:16:01] And that's why you and I were so thrilled to find out about the Home Alone tour that's
[00:16:06] happening this holiday season, Dan.
[00:16:08] Are you kidding me?
[00:16:08] It's amazing.
[00:16:09] It's a night where you get to watch the movie and experience a Q&A with Macaulay Culkin
[00:16:17] himself.
[00:16:18] That's right.
[00:16:18] A nostalgic night with Macaulay Culkin following a special screening of the holiday classic.
[00:16:24] The Home Alone.
[00:16:25] It's unbelievable.
[00:16:26] He's appearing in person across the country this holiday season, Dan O, for an unforgettable
[00:16:31] evening, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and answering your questions about the making
[00:16:36] of the film.
[00:16:36] And Dan, we're going.
[00:16:38] Yeah, we are.
[00:16:38] We already got our tickets.
[00:16:39] New Jersey screening will be there.
[00:16:41] Come say hi.
[00:16:42] He'll be there.
[00:16:42] Yeah.
[00:16:43] He's going to be in Buffalo, Evansville, Indianapolis, Rosemont, Milwaukee, just to name a few
[00:16:48] cities.
[00:16:48] For a full list of dates and cities, you can visit homealonetour.com.
[00:16:53] That's right.

[00:17:03] McAllister himself, Macaulay Culkin.
[00:17:05] Tickets are selling fast.

[00:17:11] all that Christmas chaos together.
[00:17:14] Don't be left home alone.
[00:17:15] I see what you did there.
[00:17:17] Hey, welcome back to the Hallmark Election Day edition.
[00:17:26] Election Day coverage.
[00:17:28] So let's go straight to the map here.
[00:17:30] Yeah, we're going to touch the zones.
[00:17:32] It's not working.
[00:17:33] We're going to get it fixed.
[00:17:38] The map is down.
[00:17:38] Let's break the map's down, everybody.
[00:17:41] Let's get to Carol for Two.
[00:17:43] Let's talk about our thoughts.
[00:17:45] No other way to do that than by starting with our hot takes is where we share exactly how
[00:17:49] we felt about this movie.
[00:17:50] We do not hold back.
[00:17:51] And I will kick it over to you, Brian.
[00:17:53] Brian, what did you think about a Carol for Two?
[00:17:55] More importantly, what did you think of that song at the end?
[00:17:58] Loved the song at the end.
[00:17:59] They teased it all movie and delivered.
[00:18:01] I'd say delivered.
[00:18:02] Really, really like this movie.
[00:18:04] Probably my favorite of the year right now.
[00:18:05] Wow.
[00:18:06] Yeah, really had a great time.
[00:18:07] Had a five year.
[00:18:08] I think it is, yeah.
[00:18:09] Wow.
[00:18:10] Really into this one.
[00:18:11] They finally, this one did something that a lot of movies don't do.
[00:18:16] And they were fully authentic with representing the real world in real living situations.
[00:18:21] And of course, talking about the tiny apartments.
[00:18:23] We finally get tiny apartments.
[00:18:26] And it's obvious that they're not in these glamorous places.
[00:18:30] And it felt, so these people are living in their artist era.
[00:18:33] And they're truly living like it.
[00:18:35] And so that was really nice to see.
[00:18:37] You're so cool, man.
[00:18:38] That was great.
[00:18:38] It was great.
[00:18:39] Nina Weinman obviously crushed it.
[00:18:42] The character connections really stood out here.
[00:18:45] The cousin connection between Brad and Alex, great.
[00:18:50] Alex and, oh man, what was her name?
[00:18:53] Really good.
[00:18:53] Alex and Violet.
[00:18:54] Yeah.
[00:18:54] Alex and Violet.
[00:18:55] Really great together.
[00:18:57] The lying to her dad was heartbreaking.
[00:18:59] And that really stood out.
[00:19:01] That came across so well.
[00:19:02] I felt so bad for her dad.
[00:19:04] He just kept calling.
[00:19:04] Oh man, heartbreaking.
[00:19:06] That guy's a good actor too.
[00:19:08] Paul S.
[00:19:08] C.
[00:19:09] Embray.
[00:19:09] He's in movies all the time.
[00:19:10] And he's great.
[00:19:11] Yeah.
[00:19:12] He's always Andrew Walker's dad.
[00:19:13] He's Andrew Walker's dad.
[00:19:14] But he's really good.
[00:19:15] So good.
[00:19:15] In general.
[00:19:16] He's great in this.
[00:19:17] And just inject Jordan Litz into my veins.
[00:19:20] The guy is phenomenal.
[00:19:21] I just wish he was more classically handsome, you know?
[00:19:24] So he's like my favorite human on screen I've ever seen.
[00:19:27] He can sing, but he's kind of an algo.
[00:19:28] Yeah.
[00:19:28] You gotta look at him.
[00:19:29] The voice makes up for, goes a long way.
[00:19:31] A swimmer.
[00:19:32] A collegiate swimmer.
[00:19:33] That makes sense.
[00:19:34] As you can tell, obviously.
[00:19:36] Shortchanged on the kiss.
[00:19:37] I really feel like we did not.
[00:19:39] Yeah.
[00:19:39] It wasn't a great kiss.
[00:19:39] No.
[00:19:40] Zoomed right past it.
[00:19:41] But yeah.
[00:19:43] And I feel like I speak for all of us when I say I could have used more rehearsal in
[00:19:45] this one.
[00:19:46] This is a situation where I think we all would have benefited from a little more rehearsal,
[00:19:49] a little more singing.
[00:19:51] You didn't think there was enough singing in this movie?
[00:19:53] No.
[00:19:53] I want more.
[00:19:54] This movie has the most singing of any Hallmark Christmas movie ever.
[00:19:57] But when they're jamming with the band.
[00:19:59] But like how can you get more?
[00:20:01] They stop talking and just play some music.
[00:20:03] I mean the script had to be, if a normal script is 100 pages, this script had to be 60 pages.
[00:20:08] Like it was.
[00:20:08] A lot of singing.
[00:20:09] There was a lot of singing.
[00:20:10] I mean I liked it.
[00:20:11] I wanted a little bit more.
[00:20:12] Yeah.
[00:20:12] But and more of his musical too.
[00:20:14] Like he's working on more songs.
[00:20:15] Like I want to hear some more of those songs.
[00:20:16] But I had a great time with this movie.
[00:20:18] Well done.
[00:20:19] Cool.
[00:20:20] I agree.
[00:20:21] Not that it's my favorite of the year.
[00:20:23] It's not.
[00:20:23] It's up there though.
[00:20:24] This movie is an absolute delight.
[00:20:26] It's great to see a movie about the arts that incorporates the arts into a movie.
[00:20:32] It's wild what happens when I do that.
[00:20:34] It's great to see the thing that we asked for in that movie where it's like, hey what
[00:20:38] if they showed a small apartment?
[00:20:39] They do that in this movie which was nice.
[00:20:43] It's not a two bedroom.
[00:20:44] It's a no bedroom.
[00:20:45] Good fun there.
[00:20:48] I think I speak for everybody when I say Brad's the worst.
[00:20:52] And I understand.
[00:20:54] And not in the way he's supposed to be.
[00:20:55] Well I understand that that's the point.
[00:20:58] Like Brad's supposed to be the worst.
[00:21:00] I think my thing with the whole Brad storyline is I just by and large wish that it didn't happen.
[00:21:06] Yeah.
[00:21:07] I really liked Alex and Violet straight from jump.
[00:21:12] And when Brad came in and had his jaw drop I was like, whoa hey who will hold on here?
[00:21:19] What are we doing here?
[00:21:20] This doesn't seem necessary.
[00:21:21] It doesn't make sense.
[00:21:22] Because we got Alex who we've all said one of the best looking people in the entire world.
[00:21:27] That's right.
[00:21:27] Yeah.
[00:21:28] Want to be his friend just so I can wake up every day and be like, ooh look at what you did God.
[00:21:33] You know?
[00:21:34] Yeah.
[00:21:35] And so.
[00:21:36] I know.
[00:21:36] But then Brad walks in and I'm like, okay surely this isn't going to last for very long.
[00:21:41] And then it does.
[00:21:42] It's the movie.
[00:21:43] It's the whole movie.
[00:21:44] That bummed me out.
[00:21:46] Because every time Violet and Alex are doing their thing, they're going to the senior center
[00:21:54] and they're singing this song and they're doing this stuff and they're working on his song
[00:21:58] and all this stuff.
[00:21:59] All of that is working and you're like, this is amazing and the music is really good.
[00:22:02] And then every time you're like, this is the best of the year, Brad comes walking back
[00:22:06] on screen and I'm like, dadgummit Brad.
[00:22:09] You're painting this like Brad's only 20% of this movie.
[00:22:11] Brad's way more than that.
[00:22:13] I don't think.
[00:22:13] He's maybe 40.
[00:22:14] He's less than 50%.
[00:22:16] He's around 40.
[00:22:17] Okay.
[00:22:17] Yeah.
[00:22:17] He's close to half.
[00:22:18] Yeah.
[00:22:18] So it's too much.
[00:22:19] It's too much Brad.
[00:22:20] And I think you would even agree with that.
[00:22:22] That's a good point.
[00:22:23] Take out the Brad, put him singing.
[00:22:26] I agree.
[00:22:27] Add some more rehearsal.
[00:22:28] Add some more singing.
[00:22:29] Add some more just Alex and Violet hanging out and talking about being struggling artists
[00:22:36] and stuff like that because they worked really well together.
[00:22:39] And so that's my biggest thing about this movie is I loved it.
[00:22:43] But then there's also, I guess, 40% of the movie that I was like, I wish this wasn't
[00:22:47] happening.
[00:22:47] So it puts it in a tough spot.
[00:22:49] But the part of this movie that works really, really works for me and is as good as it gets.
[00:22:53] Dano?
[00:22:54] Yeah.
[00:22:54] This is a tough situation because I hate this movie.
[00:22:57] By and large, I hate this movie.
[00:23:00] And I'll tell you why.
[00:23:01] One, everyone in this movie is lying.
[00:23:03] And I don't have a problem with everyone lying.
[00:23:06] They've done that before.
[00:23:07] Everyone's lying.
[00:23:09] But they're all...
[00:23:09] It's a big year for lying this year.
[00:23:11] They're all in this movie.
[00:23:12] And mixed use properties.
[00:23:13] Mixed use and lying.
[00:23:14] They're both having a day.
[00:23:16] They're all lying.
[00:23:17] And they're all way too smart to be dumb enough to fall for the lies that they're being told.
[00:23:23] That, to me, was the big problem with this movie.
[00:23:26] The second biggest.
[00:23:27] Brad being the biggest.
[00:23:29] Like, the fact that Dad can't figure out his daughter's not on Broadway.
[00:23:33] The fact that she can't figure out that Brad doesn't know...
[00:23:35] Like, all of these lies are not...
[00:23:38] It's not that everyone's lying, which is bad.
[00:23:39] It's that everyone's lying.
[00:23:41] And I respect and expect the people in this movie to be better at figuring it out than they are.
[00:23:47] And so now I have less respect for them because they can't.
[00:23:51] And so there's a lack of intelligence there.
[00:23:54] I hate Brad.
[00:23:55] And I don't hate Brad like you're supposed to hate Brad.
[00:23:57] I hate Brad like, this doesn't make any sense for this movie.
[00:24:01] The actor doesn't make sense for the role.
[00:24:03] Like, imagine Erika Tavle as Brad.
[00:24:05] Where he's weird and funny.
[00:24:08] Yeah.
[00:24:08] That's not fair.
[00:24:10] But at least there's a love triangle there of some sort.
[00:24:13] Or you think for a second that Jenna Claire Mason may be interested in this guy.
[00:24:18] This, it's a bad character with an actor that doesn't fit that role at all.
[00:24:24] And it is the majority of this movie.
[00:24:26] And it takes away from it.
[00:24:27] Jordan Lips, who we've all talked about.
[00:24:29] My man can sing.
[00:24:31] He looks amazing.
[00:24:33] Who knew?
[00:24:34] Yeah.
[00:24:34] When he's talking.
[00:24:36] Yeah.
[00:24:37] Oh.
[00:24:38] What?
[00:24:38] No.
[00:24:39] Didn't work for me.
[00:24:41] Man, it worked for me.
[00:24:41] So, I say all that to say this.
[00:24:44] I hate the movie.
[00:24:45] But there are like three or four scenes in this movie that are amazing.
[00:24:49] Oh my gosh.
[00:24:50] There are like three or four scenes in this movie where I'm like, oh, we did it.
[00:24:56] We've done the thing.
[00:24:58] And everyone should be invested in this.
[00:25:00] But the problem is, is unlike, where I would disagree with both of these two takes is,
[00:25:05] for me, the majority of this movie is not that.
[00:25:09] The three or four scenes that I get are magnetic.
[00:25:12] They're amazing.
[00:25:14] But the other hour of this movie, real bad.
[00:25:19] Real, real bad.
[00:25:20] Like, this movie's not cracking my top five right now, I don't think.
[00:25:23] Maybe it's fifth.
[00:25:24] Like, it just does too much wrong.
[00:25:26] What did you think about the song at the end?
[00:25:28] I didn't like it.
[00:25:28] What?
[00:25:29] That was my other thing.
[00:25:29] I even wrote it there.
[00:25:30] For an original?
[00:25:31] Yeah.
[00:25:31] Who knew it was not?
[00:25:33] Who knew?
[00:25:33] Who knew it would be you, it would be you, it would be you at Christmas?
[00:25:38] Who knew?
[00:25:39] Who knew?
[00:25:39] Who knew it would be you, it would be you at Christmas?
[00:25:44] I couldn't tell you the verses at all for all the money in the world.
[00:25:48] I don't know.
[00:25:48] Thank you.
[00:25:48] It's so catchy.
[00:25:49] Cool.
[00:25:52] You need an accordion in that song.
[00:25:54] Ooh, yeah.
[00:25:55] You can get an accordion out with that for sure.
[00:25:57] It's time for all the feels.
[00:25:58] We're talking about what in this movie gave us the feels, Brian.
[00:26:02] Yeah, the singing and the music was really great.
[00:26:04] And Girls Gone Homework had Jeff Beasley on, who directed this, and he said they did it
[00:26:08] all live.
[00:26:09] They recorded the music and the singing live.
[00:26:11] Really?
[00:26:12] Which is really, really cool.
[00:26:13] Ever since Les Mis, this is the thing.
[00:26:15] It's great.
[00:26:15] They're big on it.
[00:26:17] I like that.
[00:26:17] Not every time, but yeah.
[00:26:18] So that worked.
[00:26:18] But specifically the scene where Violet and Alex were practicing, and he forgot his part
[00:26:23] because he was just so into her.
[00:26:25] That was great.
[00:26:26] Yeah.
[00:26:26] That was so good.
[00:26:28] Yeah, that was a good feels moment.
[00:26:30] I really liked when they go to the retirement center and they're saying a Christmas song.
[00:26:35] Oh my gosh, are you kidding me?
[00:26:37] A great rendition of that song.
[00:26:40] But I think what I was thinking about while watching this is that it felt believable to
[00:26:48] me.
[00:26:48] These two professionals go into this retirement center full of people that have been on Broadway,
[00:26:57] and they're just like, let's just riff it.
[00:26:58] Let's just play around.
[00:27:00] Let's just have some fun with it.
[00:27:01] And it turns out to be the greatest thing of all time, and you could never really recapture
[00:27:04] that again.
[00:27:05] It felt like a real lived-in moment.
[00:27:08] And so that fun fact that you just gave us about recording it live, I buy it.
[00:27:13] It felt real.
[00:27:14] And that's something that maybe you can't get like that in doing it in a studio and then
[00:27:22] trying to lip sync it in the movie.
[00:27:28] So it really worked.
[00:27:29] I thought it was fantastic.
[00:27:30] Dano?
[00:27:30] Yeah.
[00:27:31] Christmas song at the retirement community that is apparently for Broadway aficionados and
[00:27:35] former employees.
[00:27:36] That scene is amazing.
[00:27:40] The Christmas song, one of my favorite Christmas songs.
[00:27:42] Oh, Holy Night, one of my favorite Christmas songs.
[00:27:44] I thought her rendition of that, she crushed it.
[00:27:47] And then the scene where Jenna Claire Mason and Paula Siembre, when she talks to her father
[00:27:51] and he's like, look, we love you.
[00:27:54] We support you.
[00:27:54] It doesn't matter.
[00:27:55] Go be you.
[00:27:57] Amazing.
[00:27:58] Paula Siembre in that scene is-
[00:28:00] Dad of the year.
[00:28:00] Not only is he dad of the year, but he's the best actor on screen there.
[00:28:04] And I love Jenna Claire Mason, but Paula Siembre is just bringing it.
[00:28:08] He is unbelievable in that scene.
[00:28:10] Those three scenes, whoo, I mean, are you kidding me?
[00:28:14] Like, great stuff.
[00:28:16] Let's take a quick break.
[00:28:17] We'll come back.

[00:30:26] Yeah, you know.
[00:30:26] We're welcoming you back.
[00:30:28] We're welcoming you back.
[00:30:29] Some words.
[00:30:30] We are welcoming you back.
[00:30:32] We are welcoming you back.
[00:30:33] We are welcoming you back.
[00:30:34] Here's a welcome kiss.
[00:30:35] Hello, my name is welcome.
[00:30:36] We welcome you back.
[00:30:38] Let's get to the wait what.
[00:30:39] It's where we talk about what in this particular film made us go wait what.
[00:30:43] And I'll start with you, Brian.
[00:30:45] Yeah.
[00:30:46] Her take getting a shot to audition or have her first shot at singing at the restaurant
[00:30:51] she goes with Oh Holy Night was just bold.
[00:30:55] Yeah, to say the least.
[00:30:56] Like I was shocked.
[00:30:56] And even if you can, like should you?
[00:30:58] Should you?
[00:30:59] Should you?
[00:30:59] Should you write that?
[00:31:00] Just because you could.
[00:31:00] Yeah.
[00:31:01] It doesn't mean you should.
[00:31:02] I was shocked at that.
[00:31:04] I will say early in this movie, they emptied the chamber with public domain Christmas carols.
[00:31:09] And I'm like, one of my concerns is like, they have just absolutely laid waste to the
[00:31:16] public domain with all of the like, they're like, we don't have anything left.
[00:31:24] We just are like.
[00:31:25] We got to write some songs, guys.
[00:31:26] We got some bullets.
[00:31:27] Nope.
[00:31:27] They're all gone.
[00:31:28] And so when she did Oh Holy Night, I was like, oh my God.
[00:31:32] That was fantastic.
[00:31:33] But even if you crush it, then everybody there who's working is going to be like, you see
[00:31:38] this one?
[00:31:39] Yeah.
[00:31:39] Yeah, exactly.
[00:31:40] It's not a good look for you.
[00:31:41] Yeah.
[00:31:42] So that was just shocking a little bit.
[00:31:43] Ray, who booked that Chicago tour, said they're hosting the staff dinner at their apartment,
[00:31:49] their studio apartment for the whole staff.
[00:31:51] Yeah.
[00:31:52] Square feet.
[00:31:53] I'm like, where?
[00:31:54] Where are you putting everybody?
[00:31:56] She didn't think she actually had a chance at the Chicago tour, right?
[00:31:59] Violet?
[00:31:59] Like, she was kind of like thinking she was, she didn't even get through the first word
[00:32:03] of singing.
[00:32:03] So like, that's not happening.
[00:32:05] So her thinking that she even had a chance.
[00:32:07] She didn't think she had a chance.
[00:32:08] I hope not.
[00:32:09] They asked her and she was like, no, I didn't get there.
[00:32:11] Did you hear anything?
[00:32:12] She's like, no, I didn't think she had a chance.
[00:32:15] Okay.
[00:32:15] All right.
[00:32:21] Why don't you sing one?
[00:32:22] And before they even finished, he was halfway through Silent Night.
[00:32:26] Like the greatest, don't make me sing moment we've seen on screen.
[00:32:29] The guy, you cannot.
[00:32:32] Like he is ready to go.
[00:32:35] Like at a moment's notice.
[00:32:36] Like it was phenomenal.
[00:32:38] Like great work.
[00:32:38] He did that another time too.
[00:32:40] But that was just top of the game.
[00:32:42] Don't make me sing.
[00:32:43] Brian.
[00:32:44] Oh, thank you.
[00:32:45] Yeah, man.
[00:32:45] He said it was his last one.
[00:32:47] I mean, he gave you a lot.
[00:32:48] Hey, Hazel.
[00:32:49] Hazel.
[00:32:50] Oh, over there.
[00:32:51] Transition honk.
[00:32:53] Early on, Hazel's walking around and she is checking in on somebody about their food
[00:33:00] or whatever.
[00:33:01] Yeah.
[00:33:01] And the person's clearly an extra.
[00:33:03] And she says to him, I'm glad we had this talk, which is just a mean thing to say to
[00:33:09] somebody who can't talk.
[00:33:10] Now, it did make me laugh.
[00:33:11] It's like a little, hey, wink and a nudge.
[00:33:13] We know you know that this is an extra.
[00:33:16] We know.
[00:33:16] Like he can't talk.
[00:33:18] It's funny.
[00:33:18] But poor extra.
[00:33:20] He's already sad.
[00:33:21] He can't talk.
[00:33:22] And then he's just rubbing it in that guy's face.
[00:33:24] That's tough.
[00:33:26] Alex and Violet get together one evening to work on a song, which is great, except for
[00:33:33] that means that Alex and Violet are both off on the same night.
[00:33:38] That's tough.
[00:33:39] Who's performing?
[00:33:40] Is it?
[00:33:40] You got others.
[00:33:41] I know.
[00:33:41] But those two.
[00:33:42] Those are stars.
[00:33:43] Can you imagine going and neither one of those two are there?
[00:33:46] You need one or the other.
[00:33:48] You got to stagger the big shots.
[00:33:51] The talent, yeah.
[00:33:51] You got to stagger the big shots.
[00:33:52] You got to stagger the big shots.
[00:33:53] Because you need to have one of them sing so that, hey, we can go up there and be like,
[00:33:57] if you like that, they're going to be singing on Christmas Eve.
[00:33:59] And they're doing a duet with someone.
[00:34:01] She's not here, but she's great.
[00:34:02] One of those numbers, you know.
[00:34:03] So, and dad says something in passing when he gets to her place and he brings her the
[00:34:14] Yule log.
[00:34:15] And he says, she said, how did you get this here?
[00:34:18] And he says, I brought it in my carry on.
[00:34:21] No.
[00:34:22] I don't think so.
[00:34:23] Is it?
[00:34:24] Mom, dad, is this a joke?
[00:34:26] Is it a joke?
[00:34:27] I don't know if it was or not a joke.
[00:34:29] Right.
[00:34:29] But also, can you do that?
[00:34:31] The Fresh Market has the pumpkin roll.
[00:34:33] Sure.
[00:34:33] And they put it in this plastic thing that it could flip upside down and it would not
[00:34:37] smash it at all.
[00:34:38] So, I do think.
[00:34:39] It's possible.
[00:34:40] I was with you.
[00:34:41] Like, I had it written down.
[00:34:42] But now you said it out loud.
[00:34:43] And I'm like, I think if it was in one of those containers like Fresh Market has, I think
[00:34:47] we should try it when we go up for the Christmas card.
[00:34:49] The thing is, it's like in Brian's bag.
[00:34:50] Yeah.
[00:34:51] The thing is, I'm not even sure dad knows how he got it there.
[00:34:54] Because he kind of said it jokingly.
[00:34:56] Like, I was like, Brian, I'm a carry on.
[00:34:58] And I was like, did he or did he not?
[00:35:00] And if he did, how did he do that?
[00:35:02] Because that thing looks trick.
[00:35:03] I was like, I'm a good addition of them.
[00:35:03] I know.
[00:35:04] But that thing looks great.
[00:35:06] It does.
[00:35:06] It looks great.
[00:35:07] It looks fantastic.
[00:35:08] Travels very well.
[00:35:09] We should do it.
[00:35:10] I agree.
[00:35:10] We should definitely try it out.
[00:35:11] Yeah.
[00:35:12] For science.
[00:35:13] For sure.
[00:35:13] Absolutely.
[00:35:14] When Brian's back.
[00:35:14] Grab my Yule log bag.
[00:35:16] Dan?
[00:35:18] The fact that dad can't figure out she's not in a musical is just crazy to me.
[00:35:23] Like, Google exists in your small town, right?
[00:35:28] Like, he keeps asking her for the ticket information or just the schedule.
[00:35:33] Like, and I don't, I'm not on Broadway.
[00:35:35] I don't schedule things.
[00:35:37] But you'd like to think that Broadway plays know when they're performing more than a week
[00:35:43] out.
[00:35:44] Like, you have to buy those tickets like months in advance.
[00:35:48] And he just keeps going, sweetie, tell me when you're going to be on the blah, blah, blah.
[00:35:52] And it's like, dude, just Google it.
[00:35:55] Like, Google the show.
[00:35:56] Google the people that are in the show.
[00:35:59] The fact that she can't figure out that Brad isn't the real deal is beyond me.
[00:36:06] That he doesn't know the name of Sondheim.
[00:36:10] Doesn't give that.
[00:36:11] Like, if that's not your first clue that maybe Brad isn't above board, I don't know what else
[00:36:18] you could possibly want.
[00:36:19] The fact that she doesn't immediately figure that out really, really bothered me a lot.
[00:36:23] Who knew?
[00:36:24] At one point she says, my dad used to always say, it's never too late to be who you might
[00:36:30] have been.
[00:36:30] I mean, sometimes it is, right?
[00:36:32] Like, sometimes it is too late to be something you might have been.
[00:36:37] Like, sometimes.
[00:36:39] Right?
[00:36:39] Yeah.
[00:36:40] Your knees get a little riggedy.
[00:36:41] It is sometimes too late.
[00:36:43] Like, when I was a kid, I wanted to be a professional athlete.
[00:36:47] Like, it is too late now.
[00:36:49] Well, either the sports with darts, billiards, if you ever get past me.
[00:36:53] I'm sorry, I want to be a professional basketball player.
[00:36:54] It is too late.
[00:36:55] What are you saying?
[00:36:56] Who's too old for what?
[00:36:57] She said, my dad said, it's never too late to be who you might have been.
[00:37:03] And I said, well, sometimes it is.
[00:37:05] Yeah.
[00:37:05] Physically, yeah.
[00:37:06] But maybe like...
[00:37:07] Sometimes it's too late.
[00:37:08] Inside.
[00:37:08] Sometimes it's too late.
[00:37:09] And that's okay.
[00:37:09] Okay.
[00:37:11] Do they have pre-made martinis at Fiore's?
[00:37:14] They were so fast.
[00:37:15] So, like, Hazel's like, can I get a martini?
[00:37:18] And they hand her one.
[00:37:19] Don't make me martini.
[00:37:20] I mean, immediately.
[00:37:21] Like, instant martini.
[00:37:22] Yeah.
[00:37:23] They got it ready to go.
[00:37:23] Do you have pre-made martinis?
[00:37:24] I don't want them.
[00:37:26] Right?
[00:37:26] Like, that's not...
[00:37:27] You don't want that.
[00:37:27] You don't go for the good stuff.
[00:37:29] That's true.
[00:37:30] So quickly.
[00:37:31] It's unbelievable.
[00:37:32] And then, what's her name?
[00:37:34] What's Jenna Claire Mason's name in the movie?
[00:37:36] Violet.
[00:37:37] Violet.
[00:37:37] Violet comes back really upset about her audition for Chicago or whatever it was.
[00:37:42] And...
[00:37:42] Who knew?
[00:37:43] Hazel is like, you know, maybe your shoes are the wrong size.
[00:37:46] Or maybe you look like the dude's ex-girlfriend.
[00:37:49] Or maybe you were too short.
[00:37:50] It's not personal.
[00:37:51] Lady, you just said maybe it was your shoes, your look, or your height.
[00:37:57] It's not personal.
[00:37:58] Maybe it was the shoes you were wearing, how you looked, or how tall you were.
[00:38:02] But don't worry.
[00:38:03] It's not personal.
[00:38:05] I'd rather it be those things than not be good.
[00:38:07] Right?
[00:38:08] I yell 100%.
[00:38:09] Don't take it personally.
[00:38:10] You're great.
[00:38:10] It could have been literally anything about your physical appearance.
[00:38:13] It definitely wasn't your voice.
[00:38:14] And that's something you can take.
[00:38:15] Like, you...
[00:38:17] Yeah.
[00:38:17] You did mention it.
[00:38:19] There's lots to pick apart.
[00:38:20] Yeah, there's plenty.
[00:38:21] That you could have been pitchy, but it also just could have been you as a human being.
[00:38:24] Yeah.
[00:38:24] It could have been personal.
[00:38:25] And I want to be very clear about that.
[00:38:28] You mentioned in the synopsis that this guy's there for a Christmas Day audition, which is just a riot.
[00:38:33] And that guy is...
[00:38:34] And as Santa Claus.
[00:38:35] That's a great character actor, too.
[00:38:38] In it, he says he gets a black and white milkshake.
[00:38:41] That's how he got here.
[00:38:42] He basically...
[00:38:43] He missed out on Christmas with his family for one black and white milkshake he could come and order any day of the week, which is great.
[00:38:50] But what's weird is, is in that scene, he has the milkshake and he drinks it.
[00:38:55] And the straw makes that sound like we do a bit sometimes.
[00:38:59] I forgot about that bit.
[00:39:00] Which is the end of the milkshake.
[00:39:01] Man, it's been a while.
[00:39:02] And you just hear the straw and the air in there.
[00:39:05] And that's the sound that it makes.
[00:39:07] But the milkshake is full.
[00:39:09] Yes, it hasn't moved an inch.
[00:39:10] It still has whipped cream and a cherry on top.
[00:39:12] Yeah.
[00:39:13] But the straw makes it sound like it's an empty cup.
[00:39:16] Yeah.
[00:39:17] Like, where in the editing process did we lose it there?
[00:39:20] Were they not watching the screen when that happened?
[00:39:23] Like, that one felt really, really weird to me.
[00:39:26] You drank it so fast, it just went, you know, slipped down.
[00:39:28] Everything stayed in place.
[00:39:30] That whipped cream just is above the...
[00:39:31] Couldn't catch up.
[00:39:32] It's empty underneath there.
[00:39:33] Yeah.
[00:39:33] It's empty and that whipped cream is just a cap.
[00:39:35] It's a matter of time before it crashes down.
[00:39:38] Yeah.
[00:39:38] That's all I got.
[00:39:39] It's time for What the Homework is where we wonder what could have been maybe Epic Games
[00:39:41] with Clarity.
[00:39:41] Any questions that we still have?
[00:39:43] Brian, what are you still wondering about?
[00:39:44] Yeah.
[00:39:45] Mine was sort of like that Christmas Day event.
[00:39:49] So that whole band is just free.
[00:39:51] Christmas Day.
[00:39:51] I guess to show up at the club.
[00:39:53] Yeah, the whole band.
[00:39:53] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:39:54] The whole Christmas Day scene is a wreck.
[00:39:56] It really is.
[00:39:57] It's really bad.
[00:39:58] It really is.
[00:39:58] So it was really funny.
[00:39:59] But the big thing is just give me that Christmas musical.
[00:40:01] I want more of those songs.
[00:40:02] I want to hear some more of those songs.
[00:40:03] Who knew it would be?
[00:40:04] Yeah, who knew?
[00:40:05] Who knew?
[00:40:06] So Brad does host a podcast called Man or Mouse.
[00:40:11] I thought he just listened to it.
[00:40:12] Does he host it?
[00:40:13] He just listens to it and gets advice about being a man.
[00:40:15] Yeah.
[00:40:16] Oh, I thought he hosted it.
[00:40:17] No.
[00:40:17] Okay.
[00:40:18] Does that answer some questions?
[00:40:19] I mean, I do want to know more about it.
[00:40:21] Man or Mouse.
[00:40:23] Man or Muppet.
[00:40:24] Man or Muppet.
[00:40:25] That's right.
[00:40:25] I was thinking about that.
[00:40:26] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:40:27] But yeah, just a podcast.
[00:40:29] Man or Mouse.
[00:40:29] Yeah.
[00:40:30] Man or Mouse.
[00:40:31] Yeah.
[00:40:31] I do want to.
[00:40:32] Mine is all about the Christmas, like the show.
[00:40:35] The show that they write.
[00:40:36] Like, does it run year round?
[00:40:37] Does it just run around Christmas?
[00:40:39] What are the other songs like?
[00:40:41] You know, that's basically it.
[00:40:43] And how everybody decided to end up there on Christmas Day for that audition is just bonkers
[00:40:47] to me.
[00:40:47] Like, make it the 27th.
[00:40:49] Nobody cares.
[00:40:49] Yeah.
[00:40:50] That's true.
[00:40:50] That's fair.
[00:40:51] Yeah.
[00:40:52] Well, it is Tuesday, everybody.
[00:40:53] And you know what that means.
[00:40:55] It's time for the Double Decker of the week.
[00:40:58] It's where we dive deep into the life of a Double Decker that has signed up for Brave
[00:41:01] One Jam Plus at the Double Decker tier or higher.
[00:41:05] And you don't just get your story told.
[00:41:07] That is part of it.
[00:41:07] But you get ad-free content and all sorts of stuff, depending on the tier in which you
[00:41:12] are at.
[00:41:14] Dan, who do we have today?
[00:41:16] We have Maureen Foster.
[00:41:18] Maureen Foster.
[00:41:20] Yeah.
[00:41:21] Foster.
[00:41:21] Yeah.
[00:41:21] Foster the people.
[00:41:22] Maureen.
[00:41:23] Yeah.
[00:41:23] Maureen taking her life in her own hands here.
[00:41:27] And not in a bad way.
[00:41:28] Well, that's not up to a great start.
[00:41:30] She's decided to follow her dreams, really, is what it is.
[00:41:34] Great.
[00:41:34] Good for Maureen.
[00:41:35] Maureen decided to take her turn as a hard rock artist.
[00:41:41] Something she's always dreamed.
[00:41:42] Really?
[00:41:43] Always dreamed of being a hard rock artist.
[00:41:45] Why?
[00:41:45] Yeah.
[00:41:46] She's drawing rocks.
[00:41:47] No.
[00:41:48] That's...
[00:41:49] No.
[00:41:49] Anybody can.
[00:41:50] No.
[00:41:50] Okay.
[00:41:51] She...
[00:41:51] Yeah.
[00:41:52] Hard rock artist.
[00:41:53] That was one way to go.
[00:41:54] No.
[00:41:55] She's like an artist.
[00:41:56] She likes to draw.
[00:41:57] Okay.
[00:41:57] But specifically on rocks.
[00:41:59] Okay.
[00:41:59] So she like paints rocks.
[00:42:00] She does.
[00:42:01] Yes.
[00:42:01] On hard rocks.
[00:42:02] Right.
[00:42:02] Hard rock artist.
[00:42:03] She doesn't paint rocks.
[00:42:04] She paints on rocks.
[00:42:05] Exactly.
[00:42:06] Yeah.
[00:42:06] I got it.
[00:42:07] She wouldn't...
[00:42:08] Painting a rock is just nothing exciting about that.
[00:42:10] So she's...
[00:42:12] Yeah.
[00:42:12] Her big thing is just find a nice rock and it's got to be hard, obviously.
[00:42:16] And you just paint an artist.
[00:42:18] Is the rock's firmness...
[00:42:20] Is that hard?
[00:42:22] Can she tell?
[00:42:23] Is this igneous or sedimentary?
[00:42:26] Like what's...
[00:42:26] You know what I mean?
[00:42:27] It's a big...
[00:42:27] She can't...
[00:42:27] I mean...
[00:42:27] How many soft rocks does she come from?
[00:42:29] No.
[00:42:29] Well, there's a lot of them.
[00:42:30] Very porous rocks out there.
[00:42:32] Michael McDonald's out there.
[00:42:34] You don't...
[00:42:35] I mean...
[00:42:35] It's just basically...
[00:42:36] You're basically wasting your material on a soft rock.
[00:42:40] Wasting your material there on soft rock.
[00:42:42] So she sticks to the hard rocks and mostly focuses on painting like musicians.
[00:42:47] Does she ever go like paint on a boat like a yacht rock?
[00:42:50] Man, that's not a...
[00:42:51] I don't know about that though.
[00:42:53] That's like a little rocky, if you will.
[00:42:56] Does she come in up some sort of like a restaurant or cafe surrounding her hard rocks?
[00:43:03] No, no, no, no.
[00:43:04] No, no, no.
[00:43:05] No, no.
[00:43:05] The market's kind of been washed away.
[00:43:07] It's not done with.
[00:43:08] It's a little...
[00:43:09] It's not really...
[00:43:09] Does she have one rock that's her go-to or her signature, like her classic rock?
[00:43:13] Well, she...
[00:43:15] Her...
[00:43:16] That's a great question.
[00:43:17] Yeah.
[00:43:17] A classic rock is a genre of rock, rockistry.
[00:43:22] Yeah, rockistry.
[00:43:23] And being rocking in a hard place that she will focus, I think, is a classic rock.
[00:43:29] Yeah, yeah.
[00:43:29] Good.
[00:43:29] And so a lot of it is based around like some of her stuff.
[00:43:35] She likes to incorporate some of the masterpieces that have been done.
[00:43:37] That's great.
[00:43:38] Like something she's really fond of.
[00:43:40] Her Sistine Chapel Rowan is a great design she's done.
[00:43:44] Does she ever venture into metal?
[00:43:47] No, it's strictly rock formations.
[00:43:49] Natural formations here.
[00:43:51] Nothing that requires a blowtorch.
[00:43:53] Adult contemporary?
[00:43:55] Murray would never.
[00:43:55] We are done for the day, everybody.
[00:43:58] But the good news is we'll be back tomorrow with another one, I guess.
[00:44:02] Until then, maybe the first to wish you a...
[00:44:04] Merry Christmas!
