[00:00:12] I'm Alonzo and you thought ice wine was sweet and this
[00:00:18] That's a different song actually
[00:00:21] Think about the music
[00:00:23] As a whole
[00:00:33] Podcast
[00:00:44] Why don't we even do so many shows this is a great question
[00:00:48] But it's not like you played something from another show you played the tag from this is a Bramble Jam podcast
[00:00:53] Yeah, which is at the start of
[00:00:55] Has at one point or another been in the start of most all of our shows. Yes still is just not this
[00:01:01] Because this is the one flag ship of the Bramble Jam podcast network try make too much sense
[00:01:07] Yeah, I I also think anytime we do it. We're recording spoiler alert. We're not recording at six in the morning
[00:01:12] I know pulling back the curtain a little bit. We're recording to in the afternoon our time
[00:01:16] And we've not done anything all day today like that we normally like we normally watch a movie have some other things
[00:01:22] I had to be at school. We had a good day, but it's we're clearly we got to get in a rhythm
[00:01:26] Yeah, it just wasn't all that clicking for us. It's good. We're gonna get there though
[00:01:30] But you know who doesn't need to warm up, you know, who's always ready to go at a moments notice
[00:01:34] Alonzo hello. Welcome to you
[00:01:37] Because I'm never not podcasting
[00:01:40] He's always I'm always in the zone. The phone verdict is in Alonzo der al de always on his egg. That's right. That's right
[00:01:48] This is another vineyard movie that we're gonna be talking about today, which yeah, boy very exciting
[00:01:54] Man, I gotta tell you yet yet yet as I was looking at all hold on I was you know
[00:02:03] Working on making sure
[00:02:07] So
[00:02:10] at the beginning of the year I combed through the 2023 movies that might be interesting to talk about and
[00:02:20] Added them to the schedule
[00:02:22] occasionally those movies then disappear from January they're no longer
[00:02:27] Now just last week I went through from now until July getting movies for the for this particular program and
[00:02:37] There's still a lot out there what I'm trying to say is there's still a lot out there
[00:02:41] Untouched by human hands. Are you okay? There's a Colin mockery joint. We're getting to Dan Wow
[00:02:47] Any any part of this the meredys you just
[00:02:51] Now I feel pressure
[00:02:54] No, you know what the thing is is we're so it we're so excited. It's it's may right now, right?
[00:03:00] It's may is may we are mere weeks away. It's gonna be may we're weeks away
[00:03:08] Is it are you sure it's still April man, it's still April
[00:03:14] It's kind of like May but there's still showers
[00:03:18] Look, I'm telling you. It's been a weird day guys
[00:03:22] It's I thought it was it. I thought it was may already
[00:03:25] I've always said it at the bit to get ahold of my copy
[00:03:29] That's what I'm trying to say of Hollywood pride by Alonza der Albee. That's what I'm saying
[00:03:35] We're mere weeks away Alonzo. I know it's getting crazy close. I can't believe it
[00:03:40] What was that?
[00:03:41] If you want to point it again, I'll go close up. Yeah close up. Oh go there you go
[00:03:46] Looks great. Looks like you're
[00:03:49] Spinning on your hand like a basketball. Are we too far out for you?
[00:03:52] Okay
[00:03:53] Are we too far out for you to start telling people where they can find you to get to get to see your your wonderful self in person and
[00:04:00] Well, hey if you are in the Palm Springs area on Tuesday May 14th, I'm doing an appearance at
[00:04:08] This is called the best bookstore in Palm Springs
[00:04:12] That's a bold name to give yourself
[00:04:15] But yeah, it's 5 30 p.m. And I'm gonna be in conversation with one of my favorite film critics the legendary David
[00:04:22] Anson and then selling and signing books as well
[00:04:24] So come on by to that and there's more to come to be announced soon
[00:04:28] And of course obviously if you're gonna be at Bramblefest this year
[00:04:32] I will absolutely be selling and signing copies there and pre-sales are available right now
[00:04:36] And the book actually releases on what date Alonzo May 14th May 14th
[00:04:42] The book the e-book and the audiobook
[00:04:45] Yeah, and May 14th be with you and if you want to find out more about this book
[00:04:50] We're actually going to be doing a even deeper dive
[00:04:52] Oh boy on that book in the next week or two
[00:04:55] So keep your eyes peeled on that an actual interview with Alonzo
[00:05:01] Alonzo is an interview. Yes. Listen, we've been trying to make that deal happen for five years now
[00:05:06] And his people have been ruthless awful. It's unbelievable awful every time my name came up
[00:05:13] Like is he on when calls the heart? No then pass
[00:05:17] It's true. That's right. That's true. That's right
[00:05:20] But we need to pick a team Nathan or Lucas before the
[00:05:23] You need to know that right now. I thought we were all gallon now, okay?
[00:05:26] We are you can pick that you can pick out and we are all team gala
[00:05:30] Do I watch this show? No, do I watch every one of your recaps? Yes
[00:05:33] God bless you this guy above and beyond company man
[00:05:36] And I'm sure you watch them on filo of course file it out to be such a h where you can watch our show
[00:05:41] And that's right. That's right dive so many of the movies that we cover
[00:05:45] Of course when calls the heart so much more
[00:05:48] Filo dot TV such DTH if you if you if you've ever wondered what we look like maybe even listening for a while
[00:05:53] And you somehow also don't fall into the media have no idea what we look like and I've never seen the cover of our podcast
[00:05:59] Filo dot TV such DTH is a very specific person that I'm talking to a lot of hurdles out there
[00:06:04] It's a very someone at this point
[00:06:06] You know, maybe you just see the cover and you don't know who's who who's who which one or brand looks exactly the way
[00:06:12] You think he would try his voice. That's right. Yeah. Yeah
[00:06:16] Accurate
[00:06:18] Dan I don't I don't think I don't know I don't think I look at the way out. I would you think I would look
[00:06:25] Brand what was that Alonzo?
[00:06:31] Okay
[00:06:33] Were you about to say something?
[00:06:36] Dan's taller in person. I've heard that I hear that all the time. I don't know if you get that from filo
[00:06:42] I don't know if that comes across. Yeah, cuz your torso is so long
[00:06:47] I
[00:06:50] Bring us along torso, so we look like we're the same height his torso is long
[00:06:55] It's a little stretch arm strongy there in the middle. I do just want to say really quickly
[00:07:00] Obviously this episode is coming out
[00:07:04] Monday in April and I do just want to say super proud of my Orlando magic to win straight going back to Cleveland
[00:07:12] 2-2 very excited. I love that this is your chance to say
[00:07:17] Bull baby. Yeah, and if I'm somehow wrong about that
[00:07:22] You know, I think it's a maybe you heard it wrong
[00:07:25] Yeah, I've heard a fanfic. This is brand thick. That's brand thick. I love it or hate it depending on that never comes out
[00:07:35] Let's talk about another vineyard
[00:07:38] Vineyard movie a vineyard Christmas it is called. How was that title still around?
[00:07:45] November 3rd 2023 is when it premiered. I believe it first appeared on zoom-o
[00:07:50] Zoom-o in a sense kind of made its way around the world
[00:07:55] Get is the passport this movies passport
[00:07:58] You're not gonna believe this but there are lipstick stains lipstick stamps. Yeah
[00:08:04] On the on the passport of this move. It's international. It's unbelievable
[00:08:14] Yeah
[00:08:16] Why not
[00:08:21] Heather is the host of read between the vines
[00:08:29] January February March April May Jason Darula
[00:08:34] I
[00:08:42] There's the host of read between the vines which is a TV show just wrapped on their Christmas episode and her boss is not pleased
[00:08:49] Why you might be wondering because it's got no winter. It's got no holly jolly
[00:08:53] It's got no Christmas can't have a Christmas episode without that even though it is actually what her boss asked for
[00:08:59] But whatever that doesn't matter
[00:09:02] So she's got to redo it and if she knocks out of the park then and it gets good ratings
[00:09:07] She's gonna get to do a European version of her show which is something she's been asking for for a long time
[00:09:13] She does a little trick them up to allow her to still get to spend time at home for Christmas
[00:09:18] She says I'm gonna cover this vineyard. They always do this big Christmas festival
[00:09:21] It's gonna be amazing and that vineyard Dan just so happens to be in her hometown
[00:09:26] So it all it's like that's how you do you can't can't snake a snake
[00:09:30] Your brother that's right
[00:09:32] She gets home
[00:09:34] Wouldn't you know it she gets home to her and sees her brother slash dad and his
[00:09:39] And his pump to see he's so pumped to see her
[00:09:43] But she's immediately greeted with bad news the O'Reilly family has moved to Florida
[00:09:49] So the vineyard the O'Reilly vineyard is that they were she was gonna cover. Oh, oh, oh
[00:09:56] Oh
[00:09:58] Ice wine auto parts
[00:10:01] They're gone
[00:10:02] So what's she gonna do luckily? There's a new winery in town
[00:10:05] So she goes to ask them if she can do a story on them
[00:10:08] You know if you can't do the one that you want go do anything else is basically the thought process here dance with who Brunger
[00:10:15] That's right. And so luckily for them for her she walks in and meets the owner. His name is Rudolph
[00:10:24] Call him Rudy
[00:10:26] He's a bit grumpy
[00:10:29] Luckily around Rudy
[00:10:31] Lucky though his brother Anton is way more on board with the idea of doing this show
[00:10:37] They give her a wine and cookie pairing and she loves it. They specialize in
[00:10:43] ice wine
[00:10:46] Hates if you other you make ice wine brand hates you
[00:10:50] So have I ever tasted it? No
[00:10:53] Ah
[00:10:56] So
[00:10:57] She asked them if you know are you planning on having the big Christmas annual festival annual Christmas festival?
[00:11:02] You might say
[00:11:03] And it's annual Rudy's like we're not doing that. We're not doing that
[00:11:07] Let me next year, but when Anton hears that she doesn't have any other leads on a story
[00:11:12] He's like, you know what?
[00:11:14] We're gonna show you how we make ice wine and that's pretty wintery winteries kind of Christmas
[00:11:20] How do you like me now and she says that's good enough they get started in Rudy isn't a really
[00:11:26] He's not he wasn't on board at all and now that he's having to do it
[00:11:30] He's very bad in front of the camera
[00:11:32] But that's nothing a snowman competition can't cure those two lovebirds they go they make a snowman
[00:11:38] Do you want to build a snowman?
[00:11:41] They actually know but they do end up having a really nice time together
[00:11:44] And I think that's really nice so the next day he is crushing gets fire in front of the camera
[00:11:49] The chemistry it is palpable
[00:11:53] She invites Rudy and Anton to her family's friends Christmas
[00:11:58] They come and it is an amazing night
[00:12:01] So much fun has had and it's educational
[00:12:05] As they're saying goodbye to each other they find themselves under the mistletoe
[00:12:09] But instead of kissing they do an awkward handshake to say goodbye
[00:12:13] The next morning her boss calls and says
[00:12:17] not
[00:12:18] Christmasy enough so she goes to ask Rudy if he would reconsider
[00:12:24] Having a Christmas festival he says I just don't have the money
[00:12:28] But then she's like but my dad mom and he's like fine. We'll do it. Yeah
[00:12:34] twist my arm
[00:12:36] But oh apparently when they were supposed to have the festival now, it's prime time grape time
[00:12:42] Yeah, the so it's a frost big frost during the you gotta get the frost
[00:12:46] So I guess it's not gonna happen JK. It does happen
[00:12:49] They figure it out and the the festival is a big hit they record some stuff the sparks are flying
[00:12:55] Her boss calls up and says I love this you're going to Europe
[00:12:59] And so she goes to tell Rudy guess what I got a TV show and I'm going to Europe. He's not all
[00:13:06] That thrilled by this last girlfriend left him in Europe and and
[00:13:10] She's like confused like I thought you'd be happy for me. So now she's sad he said
[00:13:16] But Anton goes up to Rudy and says Rudy. I know you hate it here
[00:13:21] I know you hate ice wine like any sane person would
[00:13:26] You were meant to live to live so much more you lost your hands
[00:13:33] You were made to host TV programs
[00:13:36] Go get your girl and become a TV star
[00:13:41] Which I didn't know was an option. I didn't know that was an option that was out there for him
[00:13:46] But apparently it is so he goes and they make up
[00:13:49] They kiss on the porch no need for mistletoe the mistletoe is down don't need to kiss now. No
[00:13:56] Cut to the future and they are co-hosting a show together. Yeah, they are how about those two guys
[00:14:03] And they kiss some more and that my friends was a vineyard
[00:14:08] We did it
[00:14:10] Let's take a quick break. We'll come back and we'll break this movie down with four segments here on
[00:14:15] back the hallmark
[00:14:25] And the way the magic blew the calves out in game four it was back break amazing. They're a land of crowd
[00:14:31] Yeah, but they were magic. Yeah, it's great
[00:14:33] Um
[00:14:35] Let's break this movie down a vineyard Christmas
[00:14:38] We're gonna start with the hot tag is where we share exactly how he felt about this movie
[00:14:42] We give a little bit of a
[00:14:44] sizzling sizzling sizzling take so hot you're like whoa
[00:14:48] That's good hot take and no one gives a sizzler
[00:14:52] Take back in front of long so long so what do you think of a vineyard Christmas?
[00:14:58] Put gloves on before you pick up this take
[00:15:01] It's so hot
[00:15:04] So this movie kind of took me back to
[00:15:08] 2020 when through some miracle the
[00:15:12] Christmas movie industrial complex did not shut down, you know, the world was shut down
[00:15:18] Everything was in chaos
[00:15:19] But they knew that we needed Christmas movies to get through the year and so somehow they made them they made
[00:15:25] You know, they they quarantine people they social distance them
[00:15:27] They put in like maybe fewer extras or whatever and they made those movies and that was a real accomplishment
[00:15:32] And then it seems like after that somebody was like hey, you know what?
[00:15:38] If we make these movies where there are almost no extras that's gonna save us a lot of money
[00:15:43] I don't know if we just what if we just took that on as like a regular way of making movies people are used to it
[00:15:48] Yeah, yeah, clearly they'll watch them. I they don't mind
[00:15:53] This movie is like takes place at a ghost vineyard like besides the two brothers. I don't think anybody works there
[00:16:00] and so
[00:16:02] It's just like okay
[00:16:05] This is supposed to be a
[00:16:06] Thriving concern a happening business, but like these guys are doing all of it by themselves
[00:16:12] harvesting planting, you know little lab papettes
[00:16:17] Christmas festivals you name it they got it covered these two brothers
[00:16:21] So that was just weird. I the whole movie was giving me very strong
[00:16:27] 2020 vibes the couple you know have their moments and and when the movie starts
[00:16:32] Stopped being dumb for a second. They actually have a real conversation. You know it kind of lands
[00:16:37] But then it gets dumb again
[00:16:40] You know and the idea that like if she's gonna go do a show in Europe
[00:16:46] It means she's moving to Europe forever and never ever coming back
[00:16:50] And just stuff like that was just kind of like
[00:16:54] So yeah, ultimately this is
[00:16:57] Pretty by the numbers and they're not good numbers
[00:17:01] So, you know last week we reviewed another
[00:17:05] Vineyard movie which was very similar to the other vineyard movie
[00:17:09] We had where someone goes and they they they're going to buy the vineyard
[00:17:12] But it's just under cover under cover by situation privately carousel movies at this point
[00:17:17] This was not that no one was trying to buy this vineyard partly because no one was ever there and
[00:17:25] You know
[00:17:27] Wish you just squat in the vineyard apparently
[00:17:29] Yeah, I would catch you
[00:17:30] I mainly just like wish that they would have done that storyline because it's more interesting to me than this
[00:17:37] I I just is fine
[00:17:40] Like I thought the leading gal was charming enough and there were some scenes that landed
[00:17:45] But overall I was just kind of like man, wouldn't it be cool? She like
[00:17:49] Bought the vineyard or something so that's kind of where I was at. I was like man
[00:17:53] What if someone like actually who likes
[00:17:56] The vineyard like bought the vineyard or something like that we bought a vineyard
[00:18:02] But unfortunately, that's not what we got. We got a I'm gonna go and shoot a show
[00:18:08] And if it's good I get to go to Europe and then somehow she ends up as just a co-host
[00:18:13] so really a tough tough break for her great break for him and
[00:18:18] It was fine it was fine. It was fine Dan when Alonzo said
[00:18:24] When the movie takes a minute to not be dumb I perked up because I missed that minute
[00:18:29] That happened in this movie
[00:18:32] This is tough. They're worried about people and vineyard buying
[00:18:36] You could jam this thing full of people you could make it a thriving metropolis
[00:18:41] And he's saving it not not with what we're having to work with here
[00:18:46] It's tough. They not only are there no people in this movie
[00:18:50] They used the same scene several times in this movie to weird effect they use
[00:18:59] Such a like it is such a shoestring budget and you can tell it's a shoestring budget and it's just
[00:19:07] And I think the big issue that I have with the movie aside from the fact that it commits the cardinal sin of not being entertaining
[00:19:13] even in its badness is that
[00:19:16] The lead the idea that the leading dude in this movie
[00:19:21] Is gonna host a television show is one of the most far-fetched plots
[00:19:27] Like this guy if you want to say he's not a bad actor
[00:19:31] He's the performance he's giving is very like stolid and like serious and soft-spoken
[00:19:37] Not camera not out there and the fact that they just make him a host of this TV show at the end
[00:19:45] Like this is something she's trained her whole life for he has no experience
[00:19:49] Nor does he really have by all accounts the persona to do it and by the end of the movie
[00:19:54] He's just a co-host of this show that kind of shows you the the arc this movie was on
[00:19:59] It was like at every turn there like what decision saves money that one great
[00:20:05] This was brutal it made last week's vineyard movie look like an absolute award-winning triumph
[00:20:11] Yeah, I also really liked that lead last week. He's a funny guy. Yeah, it wasn't funny
[00:20:17] Yeah, I missed the funnies. I missed the funnies
[00:20:20] It's time for the all the fields were talking about what gave us those feels Alonzo
[00:20:26] I did laugh early on where the boss is berating her for making a Christmas special that wasn't Christmasy enough and she's like
[00:20:32] Well, you didn't you told me Christmas specials were ghost. Yeah. Well, I changed my mind
[00:20:36] Like you know that that it's a throwaway, but I thought made me laugh
[00:20:41] some fun like
[00:20:43] Diverse holiday factoids thrown in here. I didn't know about women's Christmas
[00:20:48] Or is that what they call it?
[00:20:50] Tradition I didn't know yeah, but on the epiphany the women get to relax and the men like clean up all the stuff from the holidays
[00:20:57] New to me the lighting of the menorah. I had never heard somebody do an English translation of what the prayer means
[00:21:04] So that was kind of a nice moment
[00:21:07] So like a few little things pretty good along and then I here's the scene that I'll give them that wasn't dumb
[00:21:13] When the two of them are having like that dinner in front of the fireplace and sort of talking about
[00:21:18] Their lives and that kind of thing for a minute
[00:21:21] It started feeling like that this was going to become something where these were actual characters that we were going to care about
[00:21:28] Didn't laugh, but I did have that moment of thinking we were going
[00:21:31] Yeah, fair
[00:21:33] I didn't really have any real real feels. I did like enjoy the awkward moments
[00:21:39] Where they're gonna kiss her on the mistletoe and then just do a weird handshake
[00:21:43] I enjoyed that and it resonated
[00:21:47] A bit with me
[00:21:49] Maybe a little bit
[00:21:52] Maybe maybe lived that life
[00:21:54] You've done that
[00:21:55] Uh, but I almost kiss awkward handshake under the mistletoe. I honestly don't know if I have but it feels like something
[00:22:01] I would have done had I was given the opportunity
[00:22:05] Had I was
[00:22:06] I sense a repressed memory here is coming to the surface
[00:22:10] Given the opportunity
[00:22:12] Hitting around a word ball is all you're doing had I was
[00:22:16] Had I was
[00:22:19] Had I was had I was
[00:22:21] Had I was given the opportunity. Yeah
[00:22:25] Had I was given what had happened was. Yeah
[00:22:29] Um, I do have feels the I said that the movie didn't have a moment that wasn't dumb having said that
[00:22:34] That was just for the fun of it. I
[00:22:36] There is that's what real critics do
[00:22:40] I and say it's just for the fun of it to be fair
[00:22:44] I forgot I had feels and then I had written it down. So there's that
[00:22:49] When the brothers talk said the movie was a good, but that was just for the fun of it
[00:22:53] It was for the fun of it. Was it trying on psych movies great
[00:22:58] Um
[00:22:59] The brothers talk at the end and the the younger brother comes in there and like sets some straight
[00:23:04] Is like you don't want to do this and he's like the movie's just chock full of bad dialogue
[00:23:09] The whole movie long and then all of a sudden the brother says
[00:23:13] You know when you find yourself in the same situation over and over again
[00:23:16] It becomes harder and harder to blame other people and I was like
[00:23:21] Oh my gosh, like he's just trying to just like
[00:23:24] Just full truth in pale right now
[00:23:27] Like that was that was way more than I thought we were going to get here
[00:23:31] And I did like I I did kind of double take and I rewound it to make sure I heard it correctly
[00:23:36] And so yeah, didn't expect it. There you go
[00:23:39] Uh, it's time for us to take a break and then we'll come back with a way one the what the hallmark here on
[00:23:44] Deck the hallmark deck the hallmark
[00:23:54] What's up, uh, we're back home mark. Oh, so close. You'll go with that delay
[00:23:59] We're trying to figure that we're trying to figure that you know what it is
[00:24:02] This is liberals in california. They make the delays longer. It is it hits it hits different over there
[00:24:07] Uh, they uh, yeah, it's like the delay from texas is like under a tenth of a second
[00:24:14] They actually are early they're early. That's crazy like somehow right like it's all it's it's opposite like
[00:24:21] We're on the delay from texas is 150 years because that's another topic
[00:24:25] But I but uh, brown
[00:24:28] I
[00:24:30] Was gonna set up
[00:24:33] It would be the wait what it is where we talk about what this movie is going what and I'll start with you Alonzo
[00:24:38] This is as bad as you've ever been
[00:24:42] It's only taken me, you know six years um Alonzo
[00:24:45] Anyway, beginning of a folk song
[00:24:48] In 2013 in the back of a cab in Costa Rica, bran asked me if south carolina was a hampton
[00:24:55] He said is south carolina a hampton
[00:24:59] And I've I've known him
[00:25:03] We we've we've been doing this thing for 11 years and I still don't know what he's talking about
[00:25:09] I still I still don't know what he means by that
[00:25:13] Is south carolina a hampton?
[00:25:19] You don't know either it's something to do with wade hampton, but I don't know what entirely
[00:25:25] No, is it a hampton and you've yet to answer me
[00:25:29] It's a simple. It's a simple. Yes or no
[00:25:33] In south carolina all part of long island. Yeah, that is south carolina a hampton a hampton. Wow one of them
[00:25:42] Sorry go ahead Alonzo. All right. Can we talk about the snow for a second?
[00:25:48] I have never seen a movie that has actual real legit snow look more like a movie that has fake snow
[00:25:54] Yeah
[00:25:55] Yeah, like that that's a magical alchemy. They pull off like they the snowman scene
[00:26:00] They're crouching and you don't can't really see what anybody else is doing and they're sort of like half heartedly
[00:26:06] Rolling up the snow and I'm like wait. Is it is this fake?
[00:26:10] And they don't want us to know or is it but then like two scenes later
[00:26:13] There's literal icicles coming off the grapes. I'm like well
[00:26:17] How did that look so bad? Like it's a real gift. I think if you can have
[00:26:22] Legit snow in one of these movies and still film it as though it were artificial
[00:26:28] It's impressively bad that they made real snow look like that. It's unbelievable
[00:26:34] The idea that this
[00:26:36] Journalist is going to go cover a Christmas festival
[00:26:40] And doesn't bother to pick up the phone to be like hey, I'm coming
[00:26:44] Hey confirming that the festival is happening. Hey confirming that you guys still own the vineyard and didn't sell it and moved to Florida like
[00:26:52] That's just that's and then she's shocked when he owns a vineyard like this guy who looks like
[00:26:59] Anyone that could own a vineyard and I guess they can't believe that he owns it
[00:27:04] What does the vineyard owner look like if not this guy? I don't really know
[00:27:10] The relationship with the woman who's with her running the camera like
[00:27:15] I couldn't tell if they were friends or she's just a terrible boss, but like she's constantly
[00:27:24] Pulling this other person into situations that she does not want to be in and sort of forcing her to do them
[00:27:30] Whether she wants to or not and so it's kind of like
[00:27:33] Is this a weird friendship where you're just like, you know
[00:27:37] The the alpha who's like making the other person do your bidding all the time or are you just an awful?
[00:27:43] Like
[00:27:45] Subjecting this poor woman to stuff and she has no recourse but to say yes because you signed her paycheck like
[00:27:51] It was a weird relationship there
[00:27:54] Uh
[00:27:56] This is I know a thing that happens in so many of these movies and we should just let it go
[00:28:00] But like when they actually say out loud, it's gonna air Christmas night
[00:28:06] Oh my gosh
[00:28:08] No
[00:28:10] Listen, this is worse than that because
[00:28:12] Originally she is sent down there and gets to stay through Christmas day
[00:28:18] Like and so early in the movie. I'm like, this is the first one of these movies that's done this right
[00:28:23] They've actually said she's gonna work through she's gonna work through Christmas for next year's Christmas special
[00:28:29] And I'm like, I can't believe this movie got it right and then with like 20 minutes left in this movie
[00:28:34] The boss is like we already got on the footage. It'll air Christmas night
[00:28:40] What what was the plan if she didn't get it too early? Maybe it was just that good. They couldn't hold it
[00:28:45] They're like we can't hold this for a year
[00:28:48] It's like Christmas night is for food comas. It is not for new Christmas material by that point
[00:28:54] Stop writing your new magazine article and putting a new special on tv on Christmas day
[00:29:00] Exactly and like I know it. It's just part and parcel of these movies
[00:29:03] Is they're gonna get that wrong but just when somebody said out loud we're airing a Christmas night
[00:29:06] Of like still okay, we're letting that slide. We got to stop the show like that you can't do that
[00:29:12] Like people need to know that you can't do that
[00:29:15] Yeah, so but on top of the shyness spotlight on it. It was just it was a lot
[00:29:20] um
[00:29:21] The the idea that again, you know, it's though like she's moving to europe forever and they'll never see each other
[00:29:26] Again is is a ridiculous plot conflict and then sorry i'm it's allergy season in la my eyes are like
[00:29:33] Yeah, that's what's going on with me too. That's that's what's wrong
[00:29:37] Yeah, yes
[00:29:40] They're they're back in the office and she's getting ready to go to europe and the the friend assistant whoever
[00:29:45] Is trying to convince her to go back up there and like make things right with you know lurch before
[00:29:51] They leave and she goes you've got one more stop to make on your way to jfk
[00:29:59] They're in los angeles
[00:30:02] There are international flights out of los angeles to pretty much everywhere on earth without having to go via jfk
[00:30:09] Do the writers not know this did the writers forget and think that they were suddenly back in new york like that that line just was like
[00:30:16] Whoa, what?
[00:30:18] And then the big kiss at the end in the tuscan vineyard air quotes
[00:30:24] There is a reason why
[00:30:28] certain actors and actresses
[00:30:31] Have the use of um apple boxes. Yeah
[00:30:36] He is straining so far to get down to her mouth area and she is on tippy tiptoe trying to get up to his
[00:30:44] It's it's it's just a it's a flinchy moment and usually
[00:30:49] There would be you know the step ladder that we would never see on camera
[00:30:52] That equalizes them even if he's been towering over the whole movie just to make that kiss a little more
[00:30:57] You know organic
[00:30:59] More than fair. Uh, I have a few uh one I did just chuckle at
[00:31:07] If her wine show gets good ratings
[00:31:11] We will send you
[00:31:13] To
[00:31:14] Where wine is from that's right
[00:31:17] We'll reverse engineer like dude do the americans then if it's good then we'll focus on like
[00:31:23] You know the whole the whole package will do the real thing. Yeah, but we'll do the real thing
[00:31:28] That's your reward this family does an annual tradition where they invite friends over
[00:31:35] Yeah, it's like a friendsgiving but christmas
[00:31:37] um
[00:31:38] Yes, and I think i'm
[00:31:41] The name friends christmas is just uninspired
[00:31:44] I it's like they were like we do a special thing. It's called friends christmas
[00:31:50] Yeah, I mean that is the descriptor of what it is. Yes friends christmas
[00:31:55] And apparently all of their friends work at the winery because no one's there but the we should we should do it
[00:32:01] It wasn't for this woman in town. They'd no one no like or listen if it wasn't for her having to go to this winery
[00:32:07] It would have just yeah, that's the thing like do you want that guy sitting by himself at the table
[00:32:11] Do you want to do friends christmas? Well, we kind of already are as my only friend is with me
[00:32:16] That's right. Let me see who else I can get
[00:32:19] Luckily for her she met a couple people
[00:32:21] Um, I would like to remind us all really quickly that had the mom been alive
[00:32:28] In this family they there'd be three of them
[00:32:32] Yes dad mom daughter
[00:32:34] That table's freaking massive table for a family of three
[00:32:39] It is the widest and the longest it's an ark. It's Noah's ark
[00:32:44] It is huge a family of three that they're like all apart
[00:32:49] Maybe that's because of friends christmas
[00:32:52] They put the leaves in
[00:32:55] All the leaves
[00:32:58] Man, it's a huge huge huge table
[00:33:00] I noticed the table
[00:33:03] And in her office it is her father's house so like it all it does track lots and lots of food exactly
[00:33:08] You know what? I don't want to piggy piggy back on that also the decorations in that house
[00:33:12] Seem like three different houses decorations
[00:33:15] And I mean not just in quantity but in style moosh together and I'll put on one staircase
[00:33:20] I that does decorations do bring me to one point on the porch
[00:33:25] Um, they have made at least half of the porch unusable because they've blocked it with four christmas trees
[00:33:33] So you can't get by so this is off limits. It will do that by way of of christmas tree
[00:33:40] Um guys, he's just he's just he's not he's not meant to host TV
[00:33:45] Like we can't we can't let her host a tv show. Please let her just be the host. It's what she does
[00:33:51] She like you just can't he just is not even at his best
[00:33:56] His best is a three like it just is not it just is
[00:34:00] Not as an actor as a as a this character is not meant to host a tv show
[00:34:06] Be like like when they when they like, you know, hey ken jennings
[00:34:09] You come host jeopardy and then he's like well, I will but I do have to bring my significant other
[00:34:13] She also has to host it with me
[00:34:16] Does she have any hosting experience or like to experience in this thing?
[00:34:20] No, no, no, but she's really good. She's good at it. Is she I don't know
[00:34:25] But let's just do it. It's just it was so weird
[00:34:28] Not coincidentally this actor's big role in in our universe of this stuff was the backster
[00:34:35] in that steve lund movie about the
[00:34:38] The the enchanted the christmas cottage or whatever and in that movie. He's mr. All work all the time
[00:34:45] I'm designing a house where you never leave because your office is there
[00:34:49] That's uh, and he was perfect in that role but like here
[00:34:54] less so yes, um last but not least the her friends slash videographer
[00:35:01] I don't know what she is but she does director videographer editor lackey
[00:35:06] She's not good at it because on multiple occasions anytime anything organic is happening on screen. She's like
[00:35:15] Finally at the end of the movie she's like can you guys do that again?
[00:35:17] I got sucked up in the moment
[00:35:18] But that's not the only time that happens in the movie
[00:35:20] It happens multiple times where she just doesn't get the shot throughout the movie. She has a camera
[00:35:27] But never when they do christmas stuff. Yeah, so like the boss gets mad that it's not christmasy
[00:35:32] Well, that's on her this this her friend because they do christmas stuff all movie
[00:35:37] And she just never brings the camera. Yeah, and it's like why what are we do your job?
[00:35:43] Real bad well and this actor's bless her heart wants to react to what's happening
[00:35:48] But to do so she has to lower the camera so we can see her face
[00:35:52] Whereas what's happening is what she's supposed to be filming
[00:35:56] Yes, just just keep rolling. Just keep looking in the viewfinder and you will see it
[00:36:01] Yeah thing in front of you. Yes
[00:36:04] Uh, data
[00:36:04] Should be a new decki category for most egregious casting of a parent
[00:36:09] Um, I look we do this a lot around here and sometimes we miss it when we did shifting gears and we said tyler hounds
[00:36:15] His dad was too young and all of we had a lot of a throng of people that were like
[00:36:22] Dung the dung dung dung no different
[00:36:26] That the dad was actually 60 that laugh. That's right
[00:36:32] The dad's actually 60 years old and we should lay off and I was like
[00:36:36] Okay, whatever. We're just trying to do a bit here guys
[00:36:39] This woman the lead in in this movie. I'm gonna generously say she's 32 or 33 years old
[00:36:46] Like that's about right. Maybe a little bit older
[00:36:49] Her dad in this movie the first time they meet I was like I I can't that's not her that this is like a joke
[00:36:57] Her dad in real life that actor is 44 years old
[00:37:01] He he is four years older than me
[00:37:03] And in one scene, I'm pretty sure they try to make his eyebrows gray
[00:37:08] In order for him to look older
[00:37:11] They made a 44 year old dude
[00:37:13] The the dad of like a of a of a 33 four year old woman. It is wild
[00:37:20] It's like a high school play where all the actors are around the same age
[00:37:24] Yeah, they all drew names out of a hat
[00:37:26] Oh, I got dad
[00:37:30] They and they like they spent the time putting gray in his eyebrows for like a quarter of the rest of it
[00:37:36] Just whatever not important
[00:37:38] Um, whatever
[00:37:40] I and I could be wrong on this and I would love to hear from uh, our our listeners of the jewish faith. Um
[00:37:48] I'm offended on behalf of jewish people. I I
[00:37:52] The woman in this movie that is supposed to play a jewish woman
[00:37:55] What they do is is every scene they have her say something
[00:38:00] To identify herself as being jewish like and it's it never makes sense in the in the movie
[00:38:07] It's always like just to remind you i'm the jewish character. It is not it doesn't flow. It's not authentic
[00:38:14] It's just like this is here and then while alonso really liked the uh, the english wording of the blessing
[00:38:22] Maybe i've just heard
[00:38:24] 10 too many explanations of the menorah
[00:38:27] But like her doing a full tutorial of this menorah
[00:38:31] Was really tough like and then the dad pipes up and says this line
[00:38:35] I have it on good authority that philippinos aren't the only ones to celebrate light over dark during the holidays
[00:38:44] That's like everybody bro
[00:38:48] That's like everybody everybody that celebrates over the holidays
[00:38:53] Light over dark is a big part of it and for him to do that
[00:38:58] Before she explains the menorah
[00:39:01] Was in my opinion like and then still act shocked when he hears the story. That's right
[00:39:06] Like he's never heard hide nor hair
[00:39:10] Days are you kidding me?
[00:39:12] It is like my ears are still ringing from the tone death
[00:39:16] Like it is it was brutal
[00:39:18] It was it was so so hard. He said i just could i have it on good authority that
[00:39:23] Filipinos aren't the only ones to celebrate light over dark buddy. Where have you been?
[00:39:28] Good gosh
[00:39:30] um
[00:39:31] Early in this movie surrounded by
[00:39:34] All christmas light that's right. Yeah, more christmas lights everywhere everywhere
[00:39:38] um
[00:39:39] The dude our lead is in the winery with his brother
[00:39:43] It's binary
[00:39:44] Viner as we say binary
[00:39:46] It's a vw sound um and he just sighs and he says this line
[00:39:53] I'm beginning to think this vineyard is one big white elephant
[00:39:58] All right
[00:39:59] Well a white elephant is a get at like an extravagant gift
[00:40:05] That looks great, but doesn't have any former function
[00:40:08] That would be great if you were gifted the winery, but that is not what has happened in this movie
[00:40:13] Your parents left to go to germany
[00:40:16] And you have been tasked with running the family business
[00:40:19] White elephant is a term that can refer to a property that is expensive to maintain but has no value
[00:40:24] Learned something new
[00:40:25] Was wrong
[00:40:27] Uh, I learned something new. Did you know that?
[00:40:31] No, but I googled it just now because I was like surely there has to be a reason
[00:40:35] You know, I've only ever heard the thing about the the king or whatever that gives a white elephant as a gift
[00:40:40] That's the story I've heard from history where they're given this ruler is given a white elephant as a gift as this sign of extravagance
[00:40:47] But then doesn't really like
[00:40:50] Doesn't really know what to do with it. That's the that's my whole basis for white elephant gift
[00:40:54] But I learned something new there you go. Happy to have done it. Um
[00:41:00] He is for a guy that's running a fledgling winery
[00:41:03] He is very against any opportunity for that wine to make money
[00:41:07] Hey, we want to put a tv show on national tv about your winery. No way
[00:41:13] Not on my watch
[00:41:14] Not as long as i'm running this show not as long as i'm just steering the ship
[00:41:18] I don't want it. Don't want it. They go do a snowman competition
[00:41:22] And i've never seen judging take place as fast as this. This is real time not sped up. All right times up the winners number two
[00:41:34] You didn't you didn't go through and at least give everyone the just the the the
[00:41:41] You know
[00:41:42] Pound of the back didn't have to say we looked at it and judged it how bad is everyone else's
[00:41:49] Number two one
[00:41:51] We've been good night everybody. It's not even close. We're not even gonna go around and judge it
[00:41:56] We did a quick ones over. We did it. We've seen all that we did disabled. We did a 0.3 second judging of all the snowmen
[00:42:04] And the snowman that wins only has two balls not you too like it only has two
[00:42:08] I got it. Yeah, all he has to there should be three
[00:42:12] There should be three like you should go to a doctor brother
[00:42:16] But you gotta get that looked at man two listen one snowballs three. Yes
[00:42:22] The number of structures in the snowman get your mind out of the gutter
[00:42:28] throngs the throngs throngs throng
[00:42:33] They bake some cookies or something together and he takes them out of the oven with a oven mitt put some down
[00:42:39] And then just dives in bare-handed like out of the oven sets them down. These are going to be hot
[00:42:45] Just trying to smile which is which is very impressive
[00:42:50] For being the worst idea I've ever heard they later in this movie
[00:42:54] He explains how his girlfriend they were going to get married and then she
[00:42:59] Became a sommelier and took a job in france
[00:43:03] And she left basically chose france over him
[00:43:07] So our new lady our leading lady that is his new love interest on the phone. She hasn't worn a hat all movie not one
[00:43:15] She knows that this guy's fiancee
[00:43:19] Wait for it. Has he was one of wait for it. Hey, hasn't worn a hat all movie
[00:43:24] Finds out that this guy's fiance chose paris over him
[00:43:29] She hears she gets the job in paris
[00:43:32] Hangs up the phone puts on a beret
[00:43:35] Puts on a beret immediately
[00:43:37] Puts on a beret and was like when I break the news to this guy about me also going to france
[00:43:42] Just like your fiancee did I would be wearing a beret
[00:43:46] Just to let you know that i'm more european now and I felt like it was a bit much
[00:43:50] I felt like we were kicking him while he was down. She has beret is a valid point
[00:43:54] She has she does wear a hat in the snowman sequence though because remember
[00:43:58] She made a steal and he puts it on the to the winery to work on the top ball
[00:44:02] Yeah, that's right. Fair enough. All right, uh
[00:44:05] Lastly and I well i'll say that one for the what the homework
[00:44:07] Do you don't have the line about giving mouths of cookie? That's in my what the okay great
[00:44:11] Because I just I I didn't write it down because I thought for sure you'd have it
[00:44:15] Okay, great. Yeah, great. It is time for um
[00:44:19] Zoom oh you didn't uh
[00:44:24] Stop your whining. I don't know there we go. Stop. I forgot where we uh talk about any questions that we still got
[00:44:32] Zuma zoom area that was it
[00:44:34] Zuma's a marry. I like that. That's not bad
[00:44:36] Uh, Alonzo Jason de zoom oh
[00:44:41] Did you anything besides cats? I honestly don't know
[00:44:45] Maybe
[00:44:47] The language yeah
[00:44:50] Boy, I'll tell you
[00:44:51] You know, I think we just do a spin off of this movie where she tells the why not joke over and over again because
[00:44:58] This movie to show you the chemistry and how good he is on tv and how great they are together
[00:45:03] They consistently show you the very worst parts of their on camera thing over and over and over again
[00:45:09] Which is insane that is that is my I'll piggy piggy back on that
[00:45:12] That is my what the zoom oh zemeri or whatever we're calling
[00:45:17] They have a scene where he makes a wine pun. It's terrible
[00:45:21] He makes a second one and then she says
[00:45:24] If you give a mouse a cookie
[00:45:27] He'll make a winderous
[00:45:29] Winderous joke like wonderous, but winderous
[00:45:33] It is one of the most awkward exchanges ever and you're like, okay. They did it once
[00:45:37] It was awkward. It didn't work, but they think they're cute great
[00:45:40] They show you that scene two more times in this movie
[00:45:43] They show you that same exact scene
[00:45:46] One, I don't know why she said if you give a mouse a cookie. I don't know what that has to do with anything
[00:45:51] That isn't a part of any of this. I don't know
[00:45:53] Don't don't drag mouse and dog and all of the the great folks over it
[00:45:57] If you give a mouse a cookie into your terrible world of puns
[00:46:01] One two you showed that scene three times to prove how great their chemistry was
[00:46:06] That's how bad your movie is. That's really really bad
[00:46:09] I did also want to give a quick shout out. There were two lines that leapt at me as being sort of self-reflexive
[00:46:16] Early on when the brother is talking about some wine that isn't coming together. He says it's gone a bit reductive
[00:46:22] Which I thought was maybe just a review for all of this
[00:46:25] And then later when they're talking about the dang ice wine, which really enough with the ice wine movies already
[00:46:31] This is like the fourth wine. I think it's it's crazy
[00:46:34] Somebody refers to it as quote unquote the hallmark of wine and Christmas and I was like, yeah, you wish
[00:46:41] None of your best day
[00:46:44] Oh boy, um, maybe the big johnson
[00:46:47] So the uh, it's two balls the o'reilly's uh moved to florida
[00:46:53] Um, they left their website up
[00:46:57] dad says, yeah, it's been a
[00:47:00] Like it's it's been problematic like but you know, what can we do?
[00:47:04] Something you can do some somebody's got to do something somebody just has to call the oriole and be like guys
[00:47:10] This is becoming a problem. Yeah one email to go daddy will take care of all
[00:47:15] Anybody ever help the o'reilly's out
[00:47:18] Uh, or is this website just gonna be up forever
