BRAN’S MOVIE SYNOPSIS
Maren runs a hardware store where she also repairs sleds. Her daughter, Leah, runs in just as she’s talking to a Santa-lookin’ fellow who gives her a flyer for an “adopt-a-grandparent” program. If I didn’t know any better, I think he might be the real thing. And I think Leah thinks so too, so she asks her mom if they can do the grandpa thing.
The program is at this retirement community, Jolly Acres, which of course is run by hunk Reid. Chris comes up and Leah adopts him and then he snaps his fingers and the lights turn on on the tree. Leah is convinced he’s Santa and is going to do an investigation of her own.
So Jolly Acres is in the process of renovating a big room, with the goal of having it ready by Christmas Eve (OBVIOUSLY). But the contractor’s twins came 2 weeks early. He’s out. Maren takes a look at the project and says she can handle it. Obviously, Reid is thrilled because that means he gets to hang out with Maren more. She finds out that he doesn’t have a Christmas tree, so naturally they need to fix that. As they hang out, she finds out that he’s never stayed anywhere very long. Even with his current job, he goes and opens a center and then leaves once it’s good and heads to another. They end up holding hands but then she’s like uh oh....gotta go! But after the ugly Christmas sweater fashion show, they just can’t help themselves and they almost kiss...but Leah interrupts them. BOOOO!!!!
Bad news - he’s got his next assignment. Beautiful Honolulu. He tells her and shares he’s disappointed he couldn’t stay here longer because he felt like there was something worth staying for, and they hug.
Maren begins to be concerned with how much Leah thinks Chris is Santa, so she talks to him and then he tells her that he turns on the lights with a remote and he’s not Santa but believes in all the things Santa stands for and they hug.
Maren finishes the renovation gig. You can tell that Reid is really struggling with not wanting to leave, so later that night, he asks if she wants to go stargazing. She tells him it’s probably best if she just heads home.
Overnight, a pipe in the ceiling of the new room bursts. The room is ruined. The party isn’t going to happen.
But then Reid calls her. The party is on...in an entirely different room but it still looks great. When he sees the community he has here, he decides he’s going to stay.
He tells Maren that he’s staying and they KISSSSSSS!
They go back to her house for Christmas and Leah opens a gift from Santa, signed Grandpa Christmas. So I guess Chris really is Santa?
