BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS
Scott Lang has settled into a pretty comfortable life. He's a successful writer, he's dating Hope van Dyne, and things are going pretty well. His daughter, Cassie, is now a teenager and has become an activist, helping people who were displaced by the Blip. This has caused some tension between her and Scott, who isn't exactly thrilled with her getting herself into dangerous situations.
While visiting Hope's parents, Cassie shows them a device she's been working on that can communicate with the Quantum Realm. Janet freaks out and shuts it down, but it's too late. The device has already sent a signal, opening a portal that sucks Scott, Cassie, Hope, Hank, Janet, and a bunch of Hank's lab ants into the Quantum Realm.
Scott and Cassie are separated from the others and are taken in by a group of people who are rebelling against the ruler of the Quantum Realm. Meanwhile, Hope, Hank, and Janet find themselves in a massive city where they run into Lord Krylar, an old friend of Janet's. Unfortunately, Krylar is now working for Kang, the guy who currently rules the Quantum Realm, so they steal his ship and get out of there.
The rebels explain to Scott and Cassie that Janet played a role in Kang becoming so powerful. Janet eventually admits that she met Kang during her previous time trapped in the Quantum Realm. Kang told her that he could get both of them home if she helped him repair his multiversal power core. They fixed it, but Janet discovered that Kang was actually a complete psycho who had been conquering and destroying entire timelines. She turned against him and used her Pym Particles to make the power core too large to function. Kang eventually regained his powers and took control of the Quantum Realm anyway.
The Langs are eventually captured and brought before Kang, who threatens to kill Cassie unless Scott helps him retrieve his power core. Scott shrinks down and heads into the core, where he encounters a probability storm that creates a bunch of copies of himself. Things get pretty chaotic, but Hope shows up and helps him get the core.
Kang captures Janet and has M.O.D.O.K. destroy the ship carrying Hank. Thankfully, Hank is rescued by his ants, who have spent their time in the Quantum Realm evolving into giant, super-intelligent ants.
With Hank's help, Scott and Hope head back into the fight. The rebels launch an all-out uprising against Kang and his army. During the battle, Cassie manages to convince M.O.D.O.K. — who turns out to be Darren Cross, the guy Scott thought he killed in the first movie — to switch sides. Cross helps them fight Kang but ultimately sacrifices himself.
Janet repairs the power core and she, Hank, Hope, and Cassie make it through a portal back home. Scott is almost left behind when Kang attacks him, but Hope comes back for him. Together, they manage to throw Kang into the power core, seemingly destroying him.
Cassie reopens the portal, allowing Scott and Hope to make it home. Scott goes back to his normal life, but he starts thinking about Kang and whether or not it's actually over with him. But he decides he's just not gonna worry about it.

[00:00:02] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast. Hi, I'm Bran and I love Marvel movies. Hi, I'm Bran and I like Marvel movies. I'm Dan and these two guys are lying and this is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast. Deck The Hallmark gets this podcast. My friends host this podcast.
[00:00:35] Oh boy. Hi everybody, how are we? We're doing good? We're doing good? Yeah man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Almost September already, Bran? Is that what I'm hearing? That's what you're hearing. Wow. It might be, it's the week of. I think it's the 31st, yeah. I think that's right. I just looked at the 31st. My bachelor party. Hey, how was it? It was great. Did you waste it on hollipops? No, no. It's poppy. How dare you? I'm sorry.
[00:01:04] I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I messed up the joke. That's on me. But no, yeah, it was a... Let's pull the curtain back here a little bit. Okay, I love that. So we're recording ahead of time. So I'm heading out for my bachelor party in about a week from yesterday. What are you doing? We're going to California, just me and my two groomsmen. Wow. That is a long way to go for a bachelor party. Yeah, we're doing one day at Disney and then I'm going to Power Morphicon, every bi-yearly Power Rangers convention that I've never been to. Wow. Wow.
[00:01:33] As rye guy a bachelor party. I'm so happy for you, man. That's awesome. Couldn't be perfect. Couldn't be perfect, but it could be close. Couldn't be more perfect. There it is, guys. Yeah. Well, I think of two ways it could have been perfect. I think of two ways it could have been more perfect. Can you imagine me at MorphinCon 2000 or whatever it's called? You guys want to come through, by all means. Did you consider inviting us and then you figured out what you were doing and you were like, I considered inviting everybody, right?
[00:02:02] But then I was just like, first of all, just logistically, it's a long trip. It's an expensive trip. Yeah. And then, yeah, like most everyone would be bored out of their mind. My two groomsmen are huge nerds, not necessarily Power Rangers guys per se. They appreciate it. But the day at Disney will be perfect. And so, no, I'm very, very excited. It couldn't be perfect. Couldn't be. We did our best. I mean, listen, nothing's perfect, guys. Nothing's perfect. But, Brad, I think I was talking to you about this last night. So, I- Did you talk bandana? Yeah. Yeah.
[00:02:31] So, this actually all relates, believe it or not. Good. Wow. Let's talk bandana. Oh, my. So, I- Your shirt looks great, though, Rye, before we get moving. Thanks, man. I appreciate that. It looks great. It means a lot coming from you. You know, I have a- Noted shirt, Dan. I will say this. It couldn't be perfect. It couldn't be perfect. That's actually the name of my upcoming autobiography, much like how Scott Lang is a published author. Sure. There we go. So, I want to be quick here because, you know, we have a bit of a hard out situation here today. Okay. But, so, I do.
[00:03:01] I do. I do. I do, too, technically. Yeah. Yeah. But, so, going to Morphicon, can't wait. A lot of cool things. I'll probably talk more about it after the fact. But, one of the cooler things I'm doing at the convention itself is I'm getting a photo op with one of, you know, the Rangers from my era in suit. Whoa. Which is really cool. Yeah. Like, in- That's a big deal. Like, honestly, really cool. The actors put on the suit? I realize that- So, very few of them do.
[00:03:27] And this is like, you know, she was, you know, it's 30 years for her, but like, you know, she can still pull it off. And so- Is it- Who? Who is it? Nakia Barise is her name. Nakia Barise. B-U-R-I-S-E. And she's wearing the suit from Turbo, which had a- Dude. The snail movie? Dude. She's the snail in Turbo. That's crazy. I thought that was a cartoon. How'd they go that fast? Keep going, sorry.
[00:03:53] And so, it's very exciting because I'm very, very, very fond of the first two Power Rangers movies. And so, very, very cool. I was going to do a cosplay. Like, not a true spandex cosplay, but I found this really cool site that had, like, basically, like, a long sleeve. Basically, like, identical. It looked great. Site is, like, not operational. And so, I got, like, really attached to this idea. I had to change the idea. I'm now going with- It's not nearly as cool, but I think I'm going to make it work.
[00:04:23] Like, a tank top version of the suit. Just kind of with some, like, cool Jordan shorts. It's going to be, like, more of a homage than anything else. But I want to dress up my outfit brand. And so, I've been thinking about bandanas. Not that, like, these necessary- What character are you trying to be? I would be doing the red Turbo Ranger, Jason David Frank, my childhood hero. And he does bandana. Well, he wore bandanas. He wouldn't necessarily have necessarily worn them with this suit.
[00:04:52] But he definitely wore bandanas back in the day. And I also just think it could be, like, I'm just trying to, like, think of my fit, as the kids say, right? Yeah, the fit, of course. It also would be a tribute of sorts to him. His final film is playing next weekend. He's since passed on. And so, like, it's, like, really, like, a perfect bachelor party. Couldn't be perfect, but, like, it is. So, here are my questions. Can I pull off bandana in general?
[00:05:21] 36-year-old boyish charm, white guy, right? Can I pull off bandana in general? Am I teetering on Michael Scott purple bandana territory if I just try it in general? You're not wearing anything. You're wearing other stuff, though. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yeah. In Morphicon, whatever, it's Morphicon, right? It's Morphicon, yes. Yeah, it's Morphicon time.
[00:05:43] In that situation, if you're wearing other, if the bandana is part of an ensemble, then I think you're going to look like everybody else there. I think you'll be fine. Now, you went to Disneyland. I mean, I've got thoughts. No, no, no. Now, here's the tougher question. And, Bran, I think I texted this to you. Can I pull off, and let's just be very honest, right? Can I pull off Tupac bandana? No. No. Okay. And you don't have to. Okay. That's what I needed to hear.
[00:06:13] I, listen, I grew up, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall would do Tupac bandana all of the time. Yeah. Right? Yeah. And I don't know whether or not that, I think Tupac bandana is awesome. I don't think that Nash and the Jackknife powerbomb and Scott Hall and the Razor's Edge, the Ramones Edge, whatever it's called. I don't think that era of those two has aged particularly well. That's totally fair. Yeah. Yeah. I just wanted to, this is why we workshop these things. I love Tupac.
[00:06:41] I think if you wear, and remember, you're going to be in California. Yes. My guy. You should not wear. Well, that's a really good point, actually. That's a really good point. Tupac bandana. Really good point. Now, granted, I'd be within the friendly confines of Morphicon, but I see what you're saying. I think that you're still going to have to walk in from the parking lot. Okay. Bran, do you feel the same way? Or are you out on bandana in general? I'm not out on bandana. Have either of you ever done bandana? Now, can we do, can I just do, is this fine?
[00:07:11] Yeah, I think that's fine. Or do we need to do conventional bandana? No, I think that's fine. I think that's fine. Cover buff, which is essentially, when I wear it like that, it's like a bandana. That's a bandana. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So, this is okay. Cool. All right. Yeah, I think that's the limit. I think that's the line. I do. The three of us are the authority on this. I think so. I will say, like, when I was a kid, I loved rap and wasn't allowed to listen to much rap as a kid, but I loved it. And I wore a bandana all the time.
[00:07:39] Like, if I was just hanging out, I just thought it was so cool to wear a bandana. Like, I thought it was the coolest. I still think it's cool. And again, I think that considering this would be more of an homage to a person, I think it would, everyone would get it. And the line has been drawn and I think it's perfectly good. And hey, it's Aaron Shay's birthday. I just, you know what? I'm just glad we had this conversation this episode. I think you should wear Tupac bandana. I was also thinking about that. Oh my God.
[00:08:08] I think you should wear Tupac bandana with Biggie Smalls Kingle. Even I would ask that question, right? Like, you know, but okay, cool. And I think you should throw up west side with one hand and east side with the other. No, no, no, no. Hey, Dan, you be careful now. Yeah, don't listen. Watch yourself. All right, we're talking Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania today. The Segway of the year. Thank you. Segway of the year, my brand. I'm sure you're helping that one, guys. Yeah, you got it, buddy. Dave, be sure to take pics, okay? Boy, that's literally the whole point.
[00:08:38] Yeah, that's true. February 6th, 2023 at the Regency Village Theater. They had to go to the Village for that. And then February 17th, everywhere else. Dan and I front and center on opening night. We were at the Cherrydale. That was their opening night. I thought it was Simpsonville. Was it Cherrydale? No, it was Cherrydale. Thursday night, in fact. Yeah, it was Thursday night. Why did we do Cherrydale? I think it was the Showtime was earlier. Oh, okay. And it went a little something like this. And there were reclining seats yet. Sure. Right, yeah. For some reason, I thought we saw it in the IMAX.
[00:09:09] No, we did not see this in the IMAX. No, it's known for IMAX. No. And it went a little something like this. Deck the Hallmarks of Bramble Jam podcast produced by... Scott Lang. Scott Lang has settled into a pretty comfortable life. He's a successful writer. He's dating... What's your plan here? He's dating Hope Van Dyne, and things are going pretty well.
[00:09:34] His daughter, Cassie, is now a teenager and has become a bit of an activist, hoping people... I mean, why crawl this time, though, Dan? If you ran last time, why crawl this time? Double Decker Tears getting their money's worth today. They're getting a show today. What are you talking about, man? I've been here the whole time. No, you're right. His daughter, Cassie, is now a bit of an activist, helping people that were displaced via the blip. This caused a bit of a tension between her and her father, because, you know, getting in some dangerous situations.
[00:10:04] While visiting Hope's parents, Cassie shows them a device that she's been working on to communicate with the quantum realm. Janet freaks out, shuts it down. Too late. Sucks them right on into that quantum realm. That's wild, right? Scott and Cassie are separated from the others and are taken in by a group of people who are rebelling against the ruler of the quantum realm.
[00:10:25] Meanwhile, Hope, Hank, and Janet find themselves in a massive city, a city on a hill, where they run into Lord Kyler, an old friend of Janet's. Unfortunately, Kyler is now working with Kang, who is the guy who's currently ruling the quantum realm. And so they steal his ship to get out of there. The rebels explain to Cassie and Scott that Janet actually played a role in Kang becoming so powerful.
[00:10:54] Janet eventually admits that she met Kang during her previous time trapped in the quantum realm. And Kang told her that he could get them both home if she helped him repair this power core thing. They fix it. But Janet has discovered that Kang was actually a complete psycho who is conquering and destroying entire timelines.
[00:11:19] And so she tries to make the power core too large so that it can't function. Kang eventually regains his powers and took control of the quantum realm anyway. The Langs are eventually captured and brought before Kang, who threatens to kill Cassie unless Scott helps him retrieve the power core. Scott shrinks down and heads into the core where he encounters a probability storm.
[00:11:49] We got a probability storm, everybody. Oh, boy. Watch out! It's pretty cool. It's a bunch of copies of himself. It's a whole thing. Things get pretty crazy there, but Hope shows up to help him get the core. Kang captures Janet and has MODOK destroy the ship that is carrying Hank. Thankfully, Hank is rescued by ants.
[00:12:18] With Hank's help, Scott and Hope head back into the fight. The rebels launch an all-out uprising against Kang and his army. During the battle, Casey manages to convince MODOK, who turns out to be Darren Cross from the first one. You remember that? To switch sides. Darren? Don't be such a not nice man. Be a nice man. And Cross helps them fight Kang, but ultimately has to sacrifice himself.
[00:12:47] Janet repairs the power core, and she, Hank, Hope, and Cassie make it through the portal back home. Scott almost there, but Kang attacks him, but Hope comes back for him together. They are able to throw Kang into the power core, basically destroying him. We think. We hope. But there's no way to know. Cassie reopens the portal, allowing Scott and Hope to make it back home. Scott goes back to his normal life, but he can't stop thinking about whether or not Kang is actually over with. But you know what?
[00:13:16] No reason to worry. Let's just focus on the good. Whenever you're ready. You got this. On the good vibes of Ant-Man. And that, my friends, was Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. Yeah, there's an and the Wasp in there. You did it. I honestly didn't know that. No, I didn't know that either until I Googled it. It's Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania is the name of this movie. Got it. Great. Yeah. All right. Let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll break this movie down here on Deck the Hallmark.
[00:13:53] Hi, everybody. Welcome back. It is time for us to discuss Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. We're going to start with the hot takes. We're going to share exactly how you felt about this movie. We did not hold back. And I'll start with you, Ryguy. As you guys know, I've cut my teeth professionally in the wrestling business. Here we go. Are you okay? Did you get them fixed? No, everything's fine now. Yeah. That's why I got the bandanas. It's like gauze. Right. Yeah. Gauze Dana. So, yeah.
[00:14:22] That's how I made money for a long time. And so in the wrestling business, if you're building towards a big main event, it's very important to keep the main event looking strong is what we say. So, for example, if we're building to Dan versus Bran at WrestleMania and the weeks of television leading up to that match, you want, you know, Dan and Bran are going to interact with each other. And maybe the good guy and the bad guy.
[00:14:49] And maybe the bad guy will get one up on each other over. And we're going to do this.
[00:15:17] And we're going to do this. And we're going to do this. But we're going to do this. This movie is really bad. Yeah. Avengers. Avengers.
[00:15:47] The King dynasty would have been the next Avengers movie. And unlike Thanos, the idea, as we saw from Loki season one, Loki season two, is that Jonathan Majors, like, you know, was going to pop up in a lot of these properties. Right. Leading up to that Avengers film, those Avengers films. This is the first time that most people have seen Jonathan Majors play this character. And even if you saw him in the Disney plus show, it wouldn't matter. And the first thing you see in the last 20 minutes of this movie is Kang, the conqueror being conquered.
[00:16:17] Lose to a bunch of ants. That's right. And then lose to arguably the least powerful Avenger. Yep. It's the first time you've seen him. Now, this movie fails spectacularly in a lot of ways. But even if it was good, that ending would really, really, really hurt it. Now, people would say, the people who defend this movie, which there are very few of, would say, well, this is what, and this is how best I understand it. Maybe the Marvel nerds will tell me I'm wrong.
[00:16:46] But this is apparently how Kang operates in the comics, is that he loses in one issue. And then because of how it all works, he gets stronger the next and stronger the next and what have you. The only problem is with how these movies are released, you're not going to see Kang for six to eight months. That's right. The last thing you're going to think of when you see this character is that he just lost to a bunch of big ants and then also just lost to one Ant-Man, the least powerful Avenger. That's right.
[00:17:13] And so, granted, we're not here to talk about any of the other stuff with Jonathan Majors, who, by the way, for whatever it's worth, to be fair, really good in this film. He's an amazing actor. Yeah, yeah. Like, you know, so, you know, just the best part of the movie by a country mile, right? But Kang would have never worked, even if all things remained above board, however you want to define that, going forward with Jonathan Majors and his legal situation. This movie looks awful. It just looks awful.
[00:17:42] After being told that the quantum realm is just like this area of despair and horrible things, it just kind of looks like a Guardians of the Galaxy planet with Guardians of the Galaxy creatures. Yep. And it's just bad. The only redeeming quality for this film, the only reason why I have it fourth from last is that the family- Fourth from last? Fourth from last. Okay.
[00:18:08] I think the family dynamic is fun and actually could have made for a really good movie. The scene before they get sucked into the quantum realm- I'm with you there. I'm with you. And it's like, and so the, like, I was like, oh, like, I, because I haven't seen this movie since theaters. I did see it in theaters twice, believe it or not. Um, but, uh, Who hurt you? God. Two times, huh? Yeah. That's one more than one. Yeah.
[00:18:32] Like, but like, like the scene before they get sucked in and before everything goes to bleep, I'm like, oh, like this, like, and then there's obviously sprinkles of that throughout the rest of the film. I'm like, these four characters interacting are like really fun. And like Catherine Newton, I think gets a bad rap. She's totally fine here. Like, you know, it's like, so, um, but man, uh, this movie's bad. And as a product of the wrestling business for, for better or worse, this movie is unforgivable. So brand, I have a fourth from last. And if I see it again, you have bottom three.
[00:19:02] Uh, you know, I think I'm going to move Ironman three above it. Uh, but then you get out. Are you kidding me? Yeah. Uh, I'll probably, I said, I just told you I'd move it above it. Uh, okay. So now it's now there's two below it. What are the two below it? Guardians two and Eternals are unimpeachable. Like those are the bottom two. Bad movies. You know, maybe something will come up that enters that bottom situation. But, uh, yeah. So I think I'll put Ironman three above it. Um, cause Don Cheadle is really cool.
[00:19:31] Um, so yeah, I have a third from last and, uh, guardians two and Eternals are next to last in last respect. Um, this was one of the, uh, most miserable theater experiences of my life. Was it my favorite? What are you saying? No, and I love you so much, but it, um, I, I was so annoyed at it. And you're right about everything that you said about him losing to answers into good life. So stupid.
[00:19:58] The rewatch of this movie is even worse because as you said, the best part of this movie is Jonathan Majors. And we now know he's gone. We're not going to see him. Right. So the best part of this movie in this, like setting up this big thing, we now know during this rewatch that he's not going to be a part of this universe anymore. So the best part of this movie doesn't matter.
[00:20:28] And so the whole movie is pointless. Now it was already at like 95% pointless. This movie is now at a hundred percent pointless. This movie now serves literally no purpose. Couldn't be perfect. This one couldn't be perfect. This is what I will say. I still have this movie ahead of Eternals.
[00:20:55] Well, I mean, because like both movies, truly miserable. And both serve no purpose too. And both serve no purpose and both were an awful waste of money that could have been used other ways. One is 40 minutes longer. One of them is 40 minutes longer. And then one of them, I still do really like Paul Rudd. And Paul Rudd still gives me a few chuckles in this movie specifically early on in this movie, as you said.
[00:21:21] And so it gets the shorter bump and the Paul Rudd bump. Zero characters in the Eternals brought me any sort of joy. At least there are still times where Paul Rudd as Ant-Man does tickle me. So it gets that. This movie is pointless. It's worthless. Yeah. See me tickling you? But I'm happy all these people got a job. Dana?
[00:21:50] So I wrote down in a cinematic probability storm, every version of Ant-Man quantum mania sucks. And I stand by that take. This movie is so similar to Love and Thunder. It's crazy. Now it is. It is so similar to Love and Thunder. The difference is Love and Thunder doesn't, isn't trying to create something that adds to the big story. Quantum mania is trying to add to the big story.
[00:22:18] Yes, Kang losing to Ants will be talked about throughout this podcast even more in the Wait What? It's terrible. Jonathan Major's performance in this movie, excellent, even as his conqueror is being conquered by Ants. Excellent. The multifaceted performance. About to become Jonathan Minor, though. Ah. Yeah. He's great in this movie.
[00:22:44] Um, this movie is like, should not have been made. Uh, has a bad guy that is in a different movie, uh, just like Love and Thunder. It decides to play the movie for gags way more often than it should, just like Love and Thunder and tries to begin or at least end with a powerful, serious thing that was not earned the whole way. But this movie, it's tough.
[00:23:12] Here's what's tough for me is I do think this is not going to win any points with either of you. Um, but I do stand by this. I do think the batting average of jokes in this movie being funny is higher than Love and Thunder. I do. I do. I think as a movie, if you want me to, like, if you want to ask me which movie I laughed more in, there are two or three chuckles in this movie. I think the first 20 minutes of this movie is kind of solid.
[00:23:41] Like, like to your point, right? Guy, that would have been a fun movie. The, the, the, him walking down the street, mirroring the first movie, uh, you know, with Baskin Robbins coming around and giving him the thing and then giving him the, the whatever. And, and it just being like a silly spoof of the first movie. And also finally getting Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Evangeline Lilly, and the daughter and him all in one space.
[00:24:05] Like that, like I was not, not in before the daughter starts talking about she invented, we'll get there later. It's ridiculous. But before the scene where the daughter has invented something that gets them to the quantum realm, this is not a bad diversion. Right. Ant-Man at least is supposed to be funny. So like in Thor, love and thunder, you can't have Christian Bale in black and white mourning
[00:24:32] the death of his daughter and then have Thor doing who's on first bits, right? Precious minutes. We don't have. That's right. So like in this movie, at least early tonally, like I'll like, I think I remember in the movie theater laughing a lot early in this movie. The problem is, is that after that first 20 minutes, this movie becomes borderline unwatchable. Uh, it is so, so bad. And it also is detrimental to any momentum that it had.
[00:25:00] Even if you're like, to your point, right guy, even if Jonathan majors doesn't get into legal trouble and convicted of assault, we can, he was convicted of assault regard. Like that. We can say that that's look it up. Even if that doesn't happen, this movie is detrimental to any steam that the MCU is trying to gather. Um, so that makes this tough because you know, we're going to split hairs here.
[00:25:26] I think in the bottom of our lists, I have it third, um, to last. I have Eternals and multiverse of madness lower multiverse of madness actively ruined a property. I never thought Ant-Man was a property. I've never thought Ant-Man was good. I like even the best Ant-Man movie, the best, the first Ant-Man, where do you guys have that ranked? First Ant-Man. First Ant-Man. I'll tell you right now. I got, I don't have it incredibly high. I got it.
[00:25:55] Uh, I don't have it incredibly high. 24. All right. I got the Ant-Man movies 24, 26, 30. Okay. I have, I have the other two Ant-Mans 20 and 21. Okay. So basically right around. I have Ant-Man 24 and Ant-Man and the Wasp 25. So no Ant-Man, we've done 31 movies. There is not an Ant-Man property outside of my bottom eight, right? Like they're all bad. So for me, I have Dr. Strange 10th overall. I love that movie.
[00:26:24] I thought Multiverse of Madness took a big fat dump on Dr. Strange. And that really, really bothers me. Both of those movies are the same length. And I got to be honest, fourth lowest for me is Love and Thunder. And this movie and that movie, I was back and forth. But the highs of Love and Thunder, a couple of action sequences are better than anything in this movie. And for that reason alone, it's third to last, but make no mistake. And then I have Dark World and Guardians 2 right above that. And I think all those movies are trash. But I make no mistake.
[00:26:54] This movie, Multiverse of Madness and Eternals, all play in the same sandbox for me. It is an absolute disaster of a movie. Hate it. Ryguy, any feels for you? It's cool that they really made the book that he wrote. I didn't know that. I probably won't read it. Yeah, it's cool. It's a real thing. That's funny. Probably won't read it. Really cool way to make money, Marvel. I've been worried. You're struggling, so. Yeah. Does Paul Rudd get that money? That's weird. I doubt. I bet he doesn't have anything to do with it. Probably Mikey. Yeah.
[00:27:24] But he's on the cover of it. So, yeah. I like when properties do that. I think it's cool. I did find it funny that Kang says the quiet part out loud about these movies, which is, you expect me to take you seriously when all you have is ants? Yep. That's the problem. Yeah. Yeah. That's the crux of the problem with Ant-Man movies. They are funny, silly, but at the end of the day, it's ants. It's ants.
[00:27:53] It's ants. It's ants. So, it's tough to really take these movies seriously. Kang was right about that one. He did get trampled by the ants. He did. Take them a little more seriously, pal. Dana? The feels for me is Bill Murray. I don't think that Bill Murray can show up and make a movie worse. He is, his line delivery to me is always funny. He's just one of these guys that if he talks, I laugh. And even in this movie, I found he had two or three funny lines.
[00:28:22] And I always enjoy seeing Bill Murray taking a script and putting the Bill Murray treatment on it. And I'm here for that. And I thought he was funny. So, that's all I got. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we're going to break this movie down a little bit more with the way it was in the What a Marvel here on. Take the Hallmark. Welcome back.
[00:28:52] We're talking about Ant-Man and the Wasp. And the Wasp. Not a lot has been done. Quantumania. We have not been talking about the Wasp a lot. People are mentioning the Wasp. She's a part of this one. Many are saying. Let's get to the way what. That's why we're talking about what in this movie. Let's go away what. I'll just start with you. I'll just start with you. Go ahead. I'll just start with you. It could be perfect. Right, guy? Amen, brother. Did he read the whole book live for that bookstore? He read the end. That's crazy. I mean, if you're just going to read a chapter from the book, you don't read the last chapter. That's four or five hours.
[00:29:21] I'm led to believe he read the whole book. The amount of times they say Quantum Realm in this movie is impressive. Take a shot. It's got to be a record. So this is probably the biggest one. I have a few more after this, but I think let's set up shop on this one real quick. I think, I think, not defending this movie. I think Darren is supposed to look as bad as he does, but I'm also not positive. Dude, the MODOK stuff in this movie, the fact that we've got it.
[00:29:49] It's terrible regardless. But the CGI is supposed to look bad, I think. But even though I feel like if they were trying to have it look bad, it could have looked worse. It's like what they end up doing is just leads me to believe or leads me to question whether or not it was supposed to look like that. And so all that stuff sucks. Do we ever find out how much time? At one point, they actually addressed one of the notes we had. Scott goes to Cassie. We don't know how long we've been down here.
[00:30:18] It could be 10 seconds. It could be 10 years. Do we ever find out how much time they actually lost down there at the end of the movie? No, no. Like, did they just find the right pocket where it was actually just the day they were there? This is my way. We can't keep doing this. We can't keep doing it. This is my weight wide of this movie is we have, we can't keep doing this with the time. Scott made it very clear to the Avengers how time works in the quantum realm.
[00:30:48] Janet once again tells us, I'm not going back there. I was in there for 30 years. Were you? No. Were you in there for 30 years? Because you once again look like you have age the same as your booth thing over here. What is the time of this daggum place? I have to imagine it's about the, but they go all over. And sometimes they're separated in the quantum realm. Different pockets. Different pockets.
[00:31:18] Doesn't matter. I just, I can't. I can't with this. Yeah. Real bad. Why did they do it? I mean, I got, when everyone else was trying to tell me that those, that, that, uh, that stuff didn't matter when I, like, I just am so over it. It's crazy. It was such a big part. As soon as you make Michelle Pfeiffer age 30 years in 30 years, it's done. Yeah. I do think some of this stuff bothers us more than others though. It's like, no one is as upset about people not remembering Spider-Man as we are in like, so maybe it's us.
[00:31:47] I think there's a, you know, depending on how much people love the property, it's directly proportional to how much they're going to forgive things. I think that's true about all movies. I think if you love a movie, you forgive its flaws a lot quicker and people love Spider-Man. And so there is this ability to forgive some basic plot points in Spider-Man because you love the property so much. So I do, I don't think it's apples to apples. I think an Ant-Man, it's a lot easier to complain than it is in Spider-Man. That's fair. Last one for me. I don't know if either of you caught this.
[00:32:16] There's a shot of Janet throwing Pym particles, but like, it doesn't like leave her hand. It's like a really, really, really bad, like a movie that already sucks. It's like, it's like, man, like not helping yourself. That's it for me, Bran. Yeah. I have, what is this movie? I have the time down. And then I also have the very last shot of this movie. And I'm, it's possible that I just missed it. It's very possible that I just missed it.
[00:32:46] But Scott takes a bite of the cake and then he goes, what was wrong with that? Was that what you were doing there earlier? The cake was the manager had not made a cake since 1997 and came out of retirement to deck, make and decorate the cake. Cause he was so proud of it. Right. It was all wrong. And then when he tasted the cake, it also sucked. Oh, okay. It was just, it was just a bit. Yeah. I just, I, you know, Bran terrible. Wait, what you wasted one there, man? No, that's fine. Am I right? I'm good. I wasted. I wasted a wait. What on a wasted movie? Dano?
[00:33:16] Yeah. Early in this movie, the narration of Scott says, where do I go next? I have no idea. If I did, it wouldn't be a ride. Yeah, that's not true. There are a lot of rides where we all know where they're going. I would say most rides you take in your life, you do know where it's going. Just because it's a ride doesn't mean we don't know where it's going. I need to get that out of the way. Keep in mind, it's not as Fast and Furious 3 tells us. It's not the ride. It's the journey. It's the rider.
[00:33:46] Of course, it's the rider. I did write down, Kang defeats an entire civilization with the flick of his wrist. Evolved dance too much for Kang. We've already talked about that a bunch. Two big ones, though. One, Cassie says she's built a device and says it's like a two-way radio. Okay. Okay. Like, what? No, it isn't. Like a two-way radio is just a frequency in which you talk. This is a communication.
[00:34:16] Two-way radio is not a walkie-talkie? Yeah. Sure. It's a communication device that actually opens up a quantum realm holding a master villain called Kang the Conqueror. Those are not. Because you have opened up a portal does not make a two-way radio is not. Like, I just, there has to be a better way to describe this to us that isn't that. But my big one is, not only is Michelle Pfeiffer gone for 30 years, but she comes back. And she's back. And then the blip happens.
[00:34:45] So she's gone again because of the blip, right? Five more, yeah. And then she comes back again. And then how many years has it been since then? I don't know. I do know that she's been back years. I know she suffered a lot of trauma. I know. Now, at no point over the years she has been back from the quantum realm does she feel it important to mention that if you reopen the realm,
[00:35:14] it could lead to the death of trillions of people. And she knows it. And she doesn't mention it. She doesn't happen to throw it out at Sunday dinner to go, I hope you're not working on anything, maybe a two-way radio, that would open up the quantum realm again. Because there was a man down there who, if he is released from said quantum realm, could result in the death of trillions of people across the universe. She doesn't mention it. Now, that is terrible. Stop the movie.
[00:35:44] We shouldn't go any further. Then they get to the quantum realm. And while they're there, she doesn't immediately mention it. She waits and waits and negotiates transportation and gets to Bill Murray. She still doesn't tell anybody until the stakes, the straits are most dire. Michelle Pfeiffer, Janet, what are you doing?
[00:36:09] At any point, you could have stopped us from having to watch this godforsaken movie and you could have saved the lives of your family and immediate peril. And you just didn't do it. How is that possible? Could have been nice. Wouldn't be perfect. Great. A family. And then we got in a family drama, dramedy. Yeah. On planet Earth. Yeah. All she had to do is be like, whatever you do, don't try to open up the quantum realm again. Don't do it. There's a guy down there. He's stuck.
[00:36:39] You don't want any part of him. She never does it. When they get there, she still doesn't do it. It's crazy. It's a crazy thing. Fair enough. Yeah. What? What? The Hallmark? Nope. What a Marvel. Questions, thoughts, predictions, whatever. It doesn't matter. It's an all play. Right, guys? It's an all play. I have two. First one. You guys think that Kang and Michelle Pfeiffer were closer than friends? Oh. Oh. Just curious. Just asking the tough questions. Boy, howdy.
[00:37:07] But my actual one from a business perspective is what's wild, Bran. You didn't synopsize them, but I don't know if you watched them, but they actually could have had to clean out with all of this if they didn't have these post-credit scenes with Kang. Yeah. Also, he's in Loki season two, which Dan, I haven't watched and you've said is very good. I've not watched it either. No, I've not watched it either. But apparently you need to before Doomsday. Yeah, I'm going to throw it on. Yeah, I'll get there.
[00:37:31] If you take away that scene with a thousand Kangs for as unforgivable as this movie treats at this time their main and building antagonist, I don't want to say hilariously because obviously a lot of real life stuff has happened, but wildly they could have had to clean out. Yeah. So just a weird scenario to think about. Mid-credits scene got them. Mid-credits scene and post-credits. Yeah, yeah. That's the thing. Loki season two was already in the can, but you could have held on Loki season two.
[00:38:02] I don't remember when everything happened and I'm obviously not trying to make light of very serious situation, but just interesting from because the question now is leading into Doomsday brand to your point, whether they try to, I can't imagine they bring Jonathan majors in. Do you, do you address the Kang of it all at all? Yeah. Doomsday or secret wars? Or is it just out of all these dangling modifiers we've talked about, like Harry Styles and all of those ones don't really matter.
[00:38:31] Like they're, they're definitely what, but they don't really matter. Whereas this is just probably a massive plot hole for the rest of time. It'll be curious to see. Interesting to see if they address it at all. I doubt they do. I do want to talk about Veb, the ooze guy. Veb does get a shot and bulls go right through him. He has holes now. And what's his name from the good place goes? I didn't know he could do that. Yeah.
[00:39:00] What else can Veb do? I, is this, is this the start of a villain arc for Veb? Veb realizes maybe he's more powerful than anyone ever gave him credit for? Veb will return in doomsday. Veb will return in doomsday. That's the end credits, of course. Absolutely. Yeah. Someone has to ask the hard questions and that's why I'm here. Dan? Yeah. Two, one is are the people, all of these different civilizations in the quantum realm, are they native to there? Did I not, do I just not know that information?
[00:39:27] Like we see all these civilizations like Guardians of the Galaxy, but the quantum realm is someplace that I thought you found yourself. I, I, I, exactly. Like, are they, are there native? I agree with you. Yeah. I don't think so. I mean, the movie doesn't really make it clear, but that's, it's like, again, like just one of the many unforgivable things. It's just like, it's just another place. Yeah. It's just a planet. Yeah. Yeah. And then other one, MODOK is so bad in this movie, but there was a one season stop
[00:39:54] motion animation show on Hulu written by Jordan Blum, who is a writer on community with the voice of Patton Oswalt as MODOK. And if that sounds like your thing, you will love it. Like stop motion animation, very silly, really like a much better MODOK, which is such a dumb property anyway. A much better use of your time than this movie is and way funnier. So there's that.
[00:40:23] Well, we did it everybody next week. Guardians three saying goodbye to our favorite guardians. That's right. Going to torture some raccoons. So come on back for that.
