[00:00:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Believing and stuff

[00:00:08] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm Dan. I despise everything that is this movie

[00:00:14] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm Alonso and can you even believe and this

[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Podcast

[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Hello

[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Everybody happy Monday. It's great to be back

[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_01]: talking about some Christmas movies that uh

[00:00:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Now we're talking about right the ones who found a Christmas movie for August

[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_01]: We're talking believe 2016 we'll get to that there's a lot of leaves out there make sure you watch the right one or don't either way

[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Because I don't see how it goes, I don't know you can do whatever you want to roll those dice

[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Alonso hi, how are ya? Hi? Hi good. It's you know, it's August

[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_02]: It is August, but we did find out that we have an official launch date for Hallmark countdown to Christmas

[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure you guys are all scurrying madly and you know, you're at Defcon 4 getting ready for all that

[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm ready. Well for I think is when the schedules released. Yeah

[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_01]: October 18th for those that have

[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Missed the news is right and they're switching 24-7

[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_01]: apparently the earliest of all time, which is

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: You know quite exciting. I was thinking about that one year. I want to say it was like 2019 and

[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_01]: lifetime

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Jumped the gun in October and Hallmark started a weekend before they said they were going to do you remember that?

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah. Yeah, and they put they punted a crosswords mystery to the following

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Year

[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_01]: What when that what like it was it before I'd if there's but that was when they were still starting on Halloween weekend

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_03]: So it was the weekend before Halloween

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, that was like, you know, they started to Halloween weekend for a few years and that was when they moved it up there

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm guessing that Halloween being on a Thursday is why

[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_02]: It's crazy, but everything's everything's weird like Thanksgiving is late like the whole calendar is higgledy-piggledy

[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure they've done the they've they've there's a reason there's a reason for it. Does that mean does it mean more movies?

[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Does it mean Thanksgiving week isn't as crazy?

[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I haven't like sat down and played with the counter to see hey

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Here's how it might shake out as a solid by finishing all of the movies by December 20th

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_03]: 21st and I would love for that tradition to come and even like last year. It was just one movie that weekend

[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_01]: It was the straggler Bethlehem. So

[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Even like, you know, what like

[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Will say do we get Alonzo's prediction on on the I don't know. Did we get a lot?

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_03]: We have not gotten along this week last week obviously when I say this week, you know

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean last week course

[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_03]: We've every all the Bramble Jam hosts have been giving when they when they show up for their episode have been giving their prediction on

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_03]: When the Hallmark schedule will drop and Aaron is keeping track of all of those in her calendar as I'm sure you know

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Typically a month. It has been a month

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna go with Tuesday September 10th, September 10 Wow

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_01]: September 12 not alone. I think you're with Brian on that one. Is that no Brian?

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Brian moved it to Monday or he moved it a week later

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_01]: He's with Ryan. Oh, he's with Ryan. I do yes

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: The same person

[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_03]: And then Patrick Serrano chose the 12th, which is what I chose and then you and Brian are on your own

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_03]: What did I do? Did I go really early or did I go late? You were like the 19th?

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, he changed he changed August 22nd somebody originally said oh, oh was it Ryan that said originally September 12th and then he changed

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Here it comes but someone said September 12

[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Didn't she just say a lot just a 10

[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Ryan Alonzo were on the tip. This is some great podcasting. It's good stuff

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_03]: So we got this is really good on a Monday

[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_03]: I know you're really excited to hear about all this

[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And trust me we're talking about you're gonna be like, can you guys go back to explaining calendars?

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_01]: It's always an exciting winner when are you in Venice

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_02]: The last week of the month so we'll have to figure out how we're gonna do that last Monday

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_01]: But we'll be good. You'll be back by schedule release Lord willing Oh heaven

[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, cuz I could suck it be too laughs. I come back on Labor Day

[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_02]: So I will be here for schedule release and ready to drop everything and get up at the crack of dawn to join you live

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Despite what Patrick might think they're not jumping Labor Day, right with the schedule

[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_03]: August that's what he thinks is coming soon. It's a bold. That's bold move Patrick's bold

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Alonzo do you do you as a fellow Christmas lover Scott and I were talking about it last week on Christmas morning

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_01]: There is something right now that him and I at least both feel

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_01]: An increase in the Christmas spirit. We were listening to Christmas music last weekend

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: There's something happening where it's like it's starting to feel feel real level on those reaction. I'm getting really excited

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's a mutual feeling across all Christmas fanatics

[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Or I'm the wrong one to ask because I never quite let it go ever. Oh, yeah. You're better than all of us

[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_02]: in every way

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Stop no, look I yeah

[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I think I think we're encroaching onto September and like because the burr months have become a thing for certain folks

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, yeah, it's it's all it's it's all imminent

[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say I love that Alonzo never lets it go. But we do watch a Christmas movie every Monday

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: He never lets it go. But also he never lets it go

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Never let it go that you can't fully let it go if you really think about it if you're constantly soaking in it

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_01]: That's right. Let's talk believe

[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_01]: came to theaters and made

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_01]: So much money you want to talk about a real Christmas miracle?

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I bought a ticket. Oh wow. Well, I'll let you share

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Segment because this was new to both

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Was good and if you if you asked us hey, which which of the three of you watched the

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Christmas movie at 2016 I

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Think there would have been a couple of guesses but here we are

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Alonzo's favorite Christian movie believe

[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_01]: December 2nd

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_01]: 2016 a little something like this

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_01]: We meet Matthew Payton at the beginning of this movie and at first I didn't think that he liked Christmas

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_01]: but then I find out that he's responsible for the success and the putting on of

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_01]: The Christmas festival they called a pageant. So I don't know

[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_01]: At the beginning of this movie where this guy stands a spoiler still don't really know

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah on yeah, okay cut the neck of the workers

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, cut to present day with every other white Jesus in hell

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Cut to present day which is news because I didn't know that the beginning of this movie wasn't the present

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, we see Matthew and he is in his car and it is clear that his car has been egged by some

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_01]: angry people

[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_01]: He drives it anyway

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And is followed by this truck and when he has to stop for a train crossing

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_01]: These guys get out of their truck go and break down his window pull him out and beat him up almost to death

[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_01]: So you may be wondering what did he do?

[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Had to be something really bad man. Like clearly the villain right? Yeah, okay up to 36 hours earlier

[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01]: So we've we got it and Matthew is in the middle of a heated

[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_01]: argument see I guess what had happened was

[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_01]: The town is really struggling financially this economy my right and

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Matthew runs the this this company the auto

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Auto thing Peyton auto auto plants. Yes auto parts and

[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Those financial hardships have impacted the business that he owns and there's a lot of

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Money that he owes and his plan is to cut the cost

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Paying his employees and his employees say you can't do that. You've already done it once apparently

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_01]: We're out of here and they go on strike

[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So one option is to start charging the foot to go to the Christmas pageant and Matthew's like over my dead body

[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_01]: We're not charging for that

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_01]: But the truth is he might not even be able to put on the Christmas pageant at all

[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Which if he does that?

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_01]: There will be a hell to pay

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Believe you me like Matthew so Matthew's he's the worst in

[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_01]: General, but I think we're supposed to cheer for him

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_01]: He is in business to make money and he doesn't really care about

[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_01]: helping people and

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't even like the pageant. It was something that his grandfather started and now he has to do it

[00:10:03] [SPEAKER_01]: He feels like it's lost its way the pageant even though they don't charge for it is also

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Simultaneously all about the money now. That's right, and he just feels like it's just not that's not what it's all about

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and so he

[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_01]: He has a tough a tough choice to make and he announces that they are not gonna be putting on the pageant

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_01]: But that doesn't work with the town we find out that when his grandfather passed

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_01]: He was given the company and if he ever

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_01]: with that also came the pageant because the company puts on the pageant and there was some sort of

[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Deal made with the town that said that the company will put on the pageant every year

[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you don't put on the pageant

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_01]: You're gonna be breaking the contract that you have and they accuse him of only looking out for himself

[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_01]: because apparently

[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_01]: if he's

[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Were to they're like wait, why don't you sell the company? But if he sells the company

[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_01]: He would lose his inheritance

[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_01]: So there's one easy way that he could start paying people and get back on track financially and he's refusing to do it

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: People are really mad a little bit about that. But mainly about the pageant. They're very mad that

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_01]: he is talking about not having the pageant cut to present day and

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Matthew is really banged up because he was beat up after saying he might not do the pageant

[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so a kid who was walking in the road

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: sees him struggling and

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_01]: His car is on fire. Not the kid but Matthew and so he's like I got to get this guy some some help

[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_01]: My mom's a nurse. So somehow this kid gets this hurt man to to his mom

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Who is I'm sorry almost a nurse did I say a nurse? Yeah, she was almost a nurse. That's my fault

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_01]: The kids name is CJ and he is a hoot and he believes in miracles and the power of prayer

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_01]: they

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Slowly nurse him back to health and when he kindly finally like comes to he realizes that he's not in some sort

[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Sort of luxurious house. No, he's with the pores with the pores and this is like oh, this is crazy

[00:12:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I got to get out of here as fast as possible, but he remembers the kindness of

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_01]: CJ and his mom and so when he finds out that it's gonna get real cold

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_01]: He begins to think about

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_01]: CJ and mom is mom and cold like the pores are like the pores are so he goes to check on them and mom is

[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Not doing well mom is cold, but she's also hot because she has a fever

[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_01]: It's it's one of those situations. She's cold. Yes. Yes, and she's no

[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And so

[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_01]: They're like we got to get you some help we got to get you out of here

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_01]: But then also there's so many poor me

[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And so what are we going to do about that? And as this point?

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Matthew's

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Cold cold heart begins to thaw and thinks I can't let these people be cold. And so he says

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_01]: everybody

[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to my factory my factory the unions on strike unions on strike so those wide open

[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_01]: No one's there and we have heat you can stay there as long as you need to but when the town finds out about this

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_01]: They go to shut it down. You don't have the proper permits to have people living in your factory, but he finds a workarounds

[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Literally a work what if I round the iPhone in China, but do it in two in

[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_01]: 2016 that's right with Americans he says

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_01]: It's partly CJ's mom's idea, but she's basically in CJ

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_01]: CJ is like hey

[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_01]: We should we should work if we work you gotta work to eat me to work to eat

[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_01]: We if you work then we can stay here and he agrees with that

[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_01]: We can work and people can you know, we can stay open 24 7 that way people can stay here

[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_01]: 24-7 sleep or a one-week work die. Now if you remember

[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_01]: the Union is on strike and

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So when the Union finds out that's luck

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_01]: It's tough that when the Union finds out that Matthew has hired a bunch of people to work the factory that are homeless

[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Poor scabs. Yes, it's exactly right. They are so mad

[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So one night they make sure that Matthew isn't gonna be there and one of the Union dudes who's been

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_01]: He's up to no good this whole movie. Yeah being in the Union or

[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_01]: goes in and starts a fire to burn down the factory and

[00:14:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Collect the insurance money and they can build it back up from scratch

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_01]: CJ runs back into the burning building after realizing that his mom is not outside at this point Matthew shows back up

[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_01]: He runs into the building and he saves them both. He's a hero as

[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_01]: He goes to the hospital to visit with them at all comes

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: abundantly clear to him after opening up the Bible and

[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Seeing paid receipts. Yes seeing some of the paperwork that did not get burned in the fire. That's right

[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_01]: he knows that the Union bros started the fire and

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_01]: He knows that they were stealing money they were doing some shady shady stuff shady Union stuff

[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_01]: stealing money

[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_01]: He knows that unions

[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Unions are the worst

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_01]: so as Matthew and CJ and his mom leave the hospital they

[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Confront those people they they add them as being those nasty Union workers that they are and

[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_01]: They head to the car and CJ is is

[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_01]: instantly filled with

[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Sadness that there's not there's still not gonna be a pageant

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_01]: But he says you know what?

[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I believe there's gonna be a pageant and he just keeps saying it over and over again

[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So they go to the place where there normally is the pageant and it's not there

[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_01]: but CJ says keep driving because I believe and once you know what they get into town and

[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_01]: the pageants happening a little bit kind of sort of it's an underground pageant and

[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_01]: CJ gets to be the angel they have worked out the proper rigging to get him to fly into the air and

[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Matthew and CJ's moms hold hands as the Union workers all

[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Burn in hell and that my friends was

[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_01]: We did it we didn't do it can't believe we did it we're gonna take a quick break when I come back

[00:16:56] [SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna break down believe here on

[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Hallmark

[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Hello everybody welcome back we are talking about the 2016

[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Mega blockbuster hit as in you could have found it at a blockbuster

[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Had those still been open made eight hundred thousand dollars on a three and a half million dollar budget

[00:17:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Believe let's let's break it down

[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna start with a hot take and I'm going to throw it over to my friend

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Alonzo who has seen this movie showed up opening night bought his own tickets and said boys

[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Podcasting about this movie for anyone right or did you do it on linoleum knife?

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_02]: I think we did it on the no, okay, okay, but I Dave and I went we went to this this there's a theater in Burbank

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_02]: It's like there is there. There's a one mall in Burbank that has three different AMC theaters Wow

[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_02]: One of them is the one inside the mall the eight screener where this kind of movie pops up

[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Like this is where I saw at least one maybe two of the Atlas shrugged movies

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_02]: We were there over the weekend to see a movie called kneecap and we got a trailer for a daily wire movie

[00:18:08] [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, it's that kind of theater

[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_02]: so yeah, we went to see believe and

[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_02]: How Chima Goucher this movie so it seems to me that it's built on two

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Terrible ideas one of which is what if a Christmas story but by Ayn Rand?

[00:18:27] [SPEAKER_02]: And

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_02]: The other one being what if it's a wonderful life where mr. Potter is the misunderstood hero, right? That's right

[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, now we're getting there. This movie is bonkers. I mean like the idea is like Oh George Bailey

[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_02]: What a woke socialist those freeloaders in Bedford Falls should be lifting themselves up by their bootstraps

[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_02]: this movie has the gall to wrap itself in the Bible while basically just being this

[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Millionaire

[00:18:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Apologia, you know trying to say that like unions are bad and you know homeless people should be given shelter

[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_02]: But only if they work for it for no money apparently

[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_02]: it's

[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_02]: so much wrong with this movie and I

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Needed somebody else to see it just to prove that I wasn't losing my mind when I thought about what happens in this film

[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, thank you. Thank you

[00:19:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Volunteering

[00:19:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate that

[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I had never seen this movie before I never heard of this movie before I have though seen a lot of

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Christian movies over the years

[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Some better than others

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_01]: some even passable, but even if you're not in the

[00:19:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Christians sphere, you know, you know

[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_01]: that Christian movies have a bit of a

[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Reputation of not being good heavy. Okay, they're heavy-handed not very good and I listen

[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I've seen a lot of them and I can typically still find something in

[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Every Christian movie that I've seen even if by by and large

[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I don't believe with everything that they are saying I can still find something in it that I'm like, yeah

[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I think they got that right or yeah, that wasn't bad. That was pretty good

[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_01]: until I saw believe

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I I

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Hate it. I hate this movie and

[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Not only is it not a good movie as

[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Just as far as you know film goes but it also

[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Isn't a good Christian movie and I would say it's not a Christian movie. It's

[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_01]: any listen if you are a

[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Christian as I am and you watch this movie and it does not upset you then

[00:20:49] [SPEAKER_01]: just take some time and think and

[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Just think through

[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey if you

[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Pal we're sitting next to one Jesus Christ in the movie theater and you are watching this movie

[00:21:07] [SPEAKER_01]: together

[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_01]: How do you like what do you think that conversation afterwards would be

[00:21:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I just this movie made me mad and I I'm not somebody that like I really

[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Want to find something in everything that I can be like, yeah, I think they did this great. I think that was good. I

[00:21:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Struck out in this one and it made me sad. This movie made me sad and

[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_01]: That's I don't think was the intended goal of

[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Believe December 2nd 2016

[00:21:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Don't like it I don't listen and even if you're even if you're somebody who's not like hey man, like

[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like everybody should watch this movie and be like this is crazy that this guy is the good guy

[00:22:02] [SPEAKER_01]: But they don't brand. Yeah

[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm naive enough to think that that was the case. I was naive enough to think what'd you say to me?

[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I said I did I honestly you're sitting down a lot for this. I said Dan

[00:22:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't I didn't know that there were people like normal people not not the filthy rich not the big businessman

[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_01]: But normal people that were anti-union. I just thought that it was something that everybody said

[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_01]: This is a good thing. It's a good thing for the employees to have

[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_01]: parameters and guidelines that help make sure that they are supported as

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Workers, I thought it was a thing that we all said as as the little guys that would go. This is a good thing

[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_02]: yeah, there's actually a book by historian Kevin Cruz about how the Evangelical Church and

[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Very rich people got together in the 30s to sort of quash the idea of

[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Worker rights and then to promote the idea of rich people being somehow now

[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Not having to go through the eye of a needle to get into the kingdom of heaven. So yeah, you're welcome

[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Danno, uh, yeah very few movies

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Can say you know what? I wish we had the integrity of Dinesh D'Souza

[00:23:17] But

[00:23:19] [SPEAKER_03]: This movie

[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Does hold that title listen to piggyback a little bit on brand?

[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I've seen a lot of Christian movies in my day. Most of them are utter garbage most of them

[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_03]: however

[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Within that garbage if you sift down to the bottom and I know some I went to school with a cinematographer

[00:23:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Who's made a ton of these movies? I've met some of these people

[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Even though I disagree firmly with a lot of what they put on screen

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Somewhere if you sift through all the garbage at the bottom somewhere there was an inkling of an idea

[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_03]: That was good. There was a good idea or if this is what I believe about the Bible

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Then how would that manifest itself on screen if you sift through the garbage of this movie and it will take you a fortnight

[00:24:01] [SPEAKER_03]: If you get to the bottom you will find a a dark

[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_03]: just hardened like

[00:24:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Filthy just the worst of the worst of anything

[00:24:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyone has to offer I told brand that there are the Polar Express has far more in common with the characters of Jesus

[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Than anything in this movie. This is adult entertainment for Andrew Carnegie is what this is

[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_03]: This movie if you could have made movies 130 years ago

[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_03]: This movie would have been made to show you why your poor

[00:24:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Decrepit self should be grateful to go in the factory for 16 hours a day

[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Six days a week and to go blind by your 40. Are you kidding me right now?

[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_03]: There is a speech in this movie and there's no it's not a coincidence. This is an election year

[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I know this movie came out after the election

[00:24:54] [SPEAKER_03]: But these talking points come directly from one put specific

[00:25:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Political candidate like he gives a rant in this movie about

[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Unions about how dare they take a 40-minute lunch

[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_03]: To 20 minute they have time and this is his quote not my eternity leave to take a magazine to the bathroom

[00:25:17] [SPEAKER_03]: That is a part of his speech six months paid maternity leave which in the United States would actually be wonderful

[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_03]: This is a guy and I knew from the get-go and bran was like no it can't be

[00:25:28] [SPEAKER_03]: There's an early scene in this movie where one character says the other we should be helping the poor

[00:25:32] [SPEAKER_03]: That's what the Bible says, but we shouldn't be given the government shouldn't know

[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_03]: As soon as that happened

[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_03]: I was like this guy's the good guy the guy in this movie who is a rotten like just

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely godforsaken soul is the white Jesus of this movie. It is this movie is inherently evil

[00:25:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Molecular level it is inherently evil on a molecular level

[00:25:58] [SPEAKER_03]: It is demonic if you grew up evangelical and heard about all these things that were demonic that actually weren't this guy's is demonic

[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_03]: It's awful and it not only that and here's the kicker of all I just said, but it's two hours long

[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not 83 minutes

[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_03]: It's two hours

[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Included with a post-credit scene that is white people directing rapping and it is

[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Just it is the bottom of the barrel

[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_03]: It is just the worst thing. It is not Christmas. It is not Christian. It is not good

[00:26:33] [SPEAKER_03]: It is a terrible movie and I hated every second of it

[00:26:36] [SPEAKER_01]: So what you're saying is you want to watch Polar Express?

[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Comparatively did I say anything that was wrong Alonzo?

[00:26:44] [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, and this is exactly why I wanted you guys in particular to see this movie because like yeah sure people they go well

[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_02]: That crusty old atheist, you know, just the Lord

[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_03]: No, no, this is this is the thing

[00:26:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's let the kid that still thinks there's good in the world watch this movie and break his soul

[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah break his soul for all those of you out there that think that privilege white privilege and Christian nationalism are myths

[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Well first read a book but also watch this movie these people claim to be Christians. It is absolutely absurd

[00:27:17] [SPEAKER_03]: it's time for

[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_01]: All the feels is where we talk about what and this movie gave us those feels Alonzo

[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I have no feel so I'm going to defer to this portion of the program to my husband Dave white

[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, who has something he would like to share Dave white ladies and gentlemen

[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_01]: This is my favorite thing that's ever happened mainly just this transition

[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Roll the slow rolling. Oh

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Here we go. He's got a Bible. I'm gonna do a little Bible preaching for y'all right now. I love it

[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Go to now ye rich men, by the way, this is the King James

[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the only version of the train. Yeah. I don't know what kind of liberal liberal sissy new translation

[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_05]: K JV

[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_01]: What about what about the in KJV will that pass or no, okay, thank you

[00:28:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Go to now ye rich men weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you your riches are

[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten

[00:28:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Your gold and silver is cankered and the rest of them shall be a witness against you and shall eat your flesh as it were

[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Fire you have heaped treasure together for the last days

[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Behold the higher of the laborers

[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Who have reaped down your fields which is of you kept back by fraud?

[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Crieth and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabbath

[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_05]: You have lived in pleasure on the earth and have been wanton

[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_05]: You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter

[00:28:56] [SPEAKER_05]: You have condemned and killed the just and he doth not resist you. Mmm

[00:29:02] [SPEAKER_05]: That's the book of James yeah versus chapter 5 verses 1 through 5

[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_05]: I've never cried on this podcast, but I'm real close right now

[00:29:10] [SPEAKER_05]: This is it before I before I go

[00:29:12] [SPEAKER_05]: I would like to re-reference the book that Alonzo pulled up a minute ago and didn't give a full a

[00:29:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Full add to which it deserves now. It's called one nation under God. It's by the historian Kevin Cruz

[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_05]: It's about what happened in the 1930s. This is a thorough and exhaustively detailed account of how during the Great Depression

[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_05]: The churches were preaching against the corporations and the banks and Wall Street as the rightful

[00:29:37] [SPEAKER_05]: villains of the crash of Wall Street in the beginning of the Great Depression

[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_05]: And the corporation said you know what we don't like being the villains. We don't like it when people are mean to us

[00:29:46] [SPEAKER_05]: so we're gonna go to some ambitious ministers and

[00:29:50] [SPEAKER_05]: See what they can do with us and what we can do for them and they did this in a campaign of

[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Very very easy

[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Collaboration began and lasted for decades

[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_05]: and and and it became a thing where

[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_05]: The contemporary evangelical church no longer knows how this came about

[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_05]: They just know that capitalism and Christianity are basically the same thing

[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_05]: And so that is again. The book is called one nation under God. I heartily recommend it

[00:30:25] [SPEAKER_05]: This is the blessing of me to this podcast I said good day. Yeah

[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Dave White ladies and gentlemen first of all Dave why?

[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Second of all the Lord bless you and keep you that was the King James Version imagine what a real version would say

[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_03]: It would be far worse than that two three cosign the Kevin Cruz book

[00:30:45] [SPEAKER_03]: It's wonderful

[00:30:45] [SPEAKER_03]: If you want a less detailed historian version that still works very very well

[00:30:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Jesus and John Wayne by Cobes Dame is also wonderful and

[00:30:54] [SPEAKER_01]: All you new kid a new New Testament Christians out there. It was New Testament. Okay, can't get mad

[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Jesus bad Jesus 2,000 times talks about the poor the elderly the orphan the needy

[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Giving away all your possessions. So that's right. This movie should burn a slow death in hell. I

[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Just oh my goodness. That's my feels to brand. I can't beat that

[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_03]: I can't you want to know what people are leaving the church. Listen to Dave white read the KJV everybody. That's why that's ridiculous

[00:31:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm with I'm with Dave here. I thought the festival at the beginning was really nice

[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I

[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Think if you you know, I

[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Know you know what I'll do this way what now not a pageant not a pad

[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_01]: This is a festival yeah with a pageant that's a part of it the festival very nice good vibes

[00:31:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Immaculate lights it looked great say quick break. We'll come back. We'll get to the way when the weather home like you're on

[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back everybody. We're having a good time. Yeah, we are

[00:32:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Gonna be upset about this episode. I know really good about it talk and believe and

[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_01]: It's time for the way what so we're talking about when this movie made us go wait what I'll start with you alone

[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So long so anything stick out to you. I

[00:32:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Mean a lot of what I wrote is very sort of a piece which is basically like so many

[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Cuckoo bananas messages here that like oh, it's the millionaires who work harder than everybody else

[00:32:36] [SPEAKER_02]: You know organized labor does not function in the way that it functions movie

[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_02]: We're just like there's these spontaneous strikes that happen without a single meeting

[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the government we shouldn't pay the government take care of poor people we should just rely upon the largesse of wealthy white dudes

[00:32:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Really we're gonna name the kid Clarence like you don't know movie you are not allowed

[00:32:57] [SPEAKER_02]: also

[00:32:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Just a reminder of the importance of a director. I think particularly in working with child actors

[00:33:04] [SPEAKER_02]: You would be amazed that the kid in this movie has gone on to have a very successful career and has worked

[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Nonstop over the last decade or so because he's so terrible in this movie, and I blame the director

[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I blame the director for never saying you know what you're at 11

[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Can we take it to a 7 but not the kids? Well? I have a feeling that the direction was the opposite

[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Started at 7 said let's go hard all the time yeah

[00:33:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's see the the fact that

[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_02]: That this woman who was a a student nurse like at no point thinks perhaps you should go to a hospital

[00:33:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, exactly

[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Which he could clearly afford even if she couldn't like that that was weird that he actually says I'm not

[00:33:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Scrooge and I wrote down well you're also not not

[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_02]: When he goes back to the factory like he still has open wounds on his face yeah like

[00:34:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Throw on a band-aid man like we're not asking for much here. You know

[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_02]: They have to create

[00:34:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Actual villains who are stealing from him right too because heaven forbid the idea

[00:34:16] [SPEAKER_02]: That you know that this

[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Guy otherwise would be able to do the Lord's work if he could just ignore those pesky unions and government regulations

[00:34:26] [SPEAKER_02]: No, no

[00:34:29] [SPEAKER_02]: You know

[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I think the the fact that

[00:34:43] [SPEAKER_01]: they

[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Felt the need to be like let's just in case let's have the union rep guy

[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Steal because then that way we can really justify that everything

[00:34:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Not all

[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Everything he was doing was

[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Just get the bad. There was a bad guy. He's a bad guy. He's a bad guy

[00:35:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I've got a few wait what's the the at the festival to begin in this movie? They do mention a baby Jesus hot dog and

[00:35:15] [SPEAKER_01]: What is it exactly like I know I guess you know the bun is the

[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Blame I've got to be honest the weirdest part of that was I didn't know if they were making fun of

[00:35:27] [SPEAKER_03]: What Christmas had become or they were yeah?

[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I didn't know I literally didn't know I heard it

[00:35:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like what because that's the interesting thing about this this town

[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And they didn't do a good despite the two hours

[00:35:43] [SPEAKER_01]: They don't do a great job of showing us the secularization of Christmas in this town

[00:35:49] [SPEAKER_01]: like they don't make us as

[00:35:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Christians be like man this town's going to hell in a handbasket look at all these things if all that we have is

[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_01]: There's that are selling baby Jesus hot dogs and the occasional person who put up happy holidays instead of Merry Christmas

[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_01]: And that's supposed to show us that this town is damned

[00:36:10] [SPEAKER_01]: That's just not enough like there was not enough to be like man. This is really this town really struggling

[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean the challenge here is like if you show a regular small-town Christmas pageant that is maybe more Santa centric or like

[00:36:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Frosty the so man. I don't like other sort of you know holiday related iconography that isn't Jesus

[00:36:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I think your average audience looks like that goes

[00:36:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and you know because like no one goes to a Christmas pageant

[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_02]: That is you know where hot dogs are sold and expects to see Jesus

[00:36:40] [SPEAKER_02]: And you know the nativity around every corner like so the movie

[00:36:44] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know how they were supposed to portray that idea of oh, no

[00:36:48] [SPEAKER_02]: We know we've gotten away from we've lost the thread here of our Christmas pageant. You know but also it's your festival, bro

[00:36:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Like if you don't like it

[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_03]: The big one it's yours you're like why they taking the Christ out of Christmas you're running the thing yeah, who's they and yes

[00:37:05] [SPEAKER_01]: It was very very murky

[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_01]: At one point he goes to a diner, and he gets meat meatloaf and coffee and that combo is insane

[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_01]: There's no way thank you

[00:37:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Messes with my brain what he said it

[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And I just can't believe that it happened the thing that you brought up

[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Dan the how when he gets really angry

[00:37:27] [SPEAKER_01]: And he makes that speech about you know the the 40 hours and all this stuff. It was such a confusing speech

[00:37:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Because at the very end of it he ends it he ends it with

[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_01]: And I do all of that so they can have all those things so he spends like 10 minutes be like this

[00:37:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Stuff sucks, and I don't get any of it

[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't get any of it because because yeah, cuz it's good and you should have it. It was the messaging was so

[00:37:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Weird for me all I get are the profits

[00:38:02] [SPEAKER_01]: And

[00:38:04] [SPEAKER_01]: May I just suggest when you're going down to a group of unhoused peoples

[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And you have to spit give them the bad news that they can't stay there anymore

[00:38:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe start that speech with something other than we're gonna have to take you back to where you came from yeah

[00:38:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Tough line to start with

[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_01]: From the good guy in the movie a line that I live I was a betting man

[00:38:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I bet that he's used that line many times many many times in his life

[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Dan oh a couple of I got two big ones of a couple of small ones early

[00:38:39] [SPEAKER_03]: There's a weatherman who wants to tell you that a cold fronts coming through to make our lead feel guilty about

[00:38:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Unhoused people that are gonna be too cold and to do that they show you a map where?

[00:38:49] [SPEAKER_03]: From the southern tip of Florida to the northwestern corner of Montana

[00:38:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Everywhere is sub-zero temperatures

[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Which that is called the ice age you don't you there's no what that's not a cold front

[00:39:03] [SPEAKER_03]: That's a whole that's a whole thing

[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Acknowledging climate change

[00:39:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Ahead of its time that's the day after tomorrow

[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_03]: There they decided all the scenes where these people are supposed to be living in frigid temperatures in one scene they decide to in post

[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_03]: add

[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Digital breath that's cold and it is one of the worst looking things

[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_03]: You had three and a half million dollars, and you're like what if we put it in one scene

[00:39:28] [SPEAKER_03]: That's what you did and then lastly on the very short end front

[00:39:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Shawnee Smith is in this movie. Who's probably most known for the saw franchise. She is at some point in that series

[00:39:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Jigsaw she's a big deal, and I just wrote down in this movie. She's supposed to be a doctor

[00:39:44] [SPEAKER_03]: She is a doctor in this movie in the same way that the lead character is a good person

[00:39:49] [SPEAKER_03]: She she never does doctoring she never practices

[00:39:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Doctoring she's never working or using her mental health or her health care education in any way shape or form

[00:40:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe she's a vet. Yeah, we don't know what type of doctor. That's right. They just say doctor

[00:40:07] [SPEAKER_03]: She also tries to give him the veterinarian by the way that every white dude

[00:40:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Who's had a privileged son is given to his son?

[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_03]: The correct advice is if you teach a man if you give a man a fish

[00:40:21] [SPEAKER_03]: He won't be hungry if you teach a man to fish. He won't be hungry forever or something to that regard

[00:40:27] [SPEAKER_03]: She says feed a man today. He'll be hungry tomorrow

[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Teach a man to fish. He'll never be hungry again

[00:40:34] [SPEAKER_03]: You there is a wires that are being crossed there, and if you give a mouse a cookie, that's right. Yeah

[00:40:41] [SPEAKER_03]: But we do need to camp out on this good this good guy here this guy

[00:40:45] [SPEAKER_03]: And this is not I'm not there's no hyperbole here. I'm one to hyperbole

[00:40:50] [SPEAKER_03]: This is not hyperbole this guy's moment in this movie like every one of these Scrooge characters has a moment where they're like

[00:40:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I should treat people better. Maybe I've had it all wrong

[00:41:01] [SPEAKER_03]: the moment for this guy is

[00:41:05] [SPEAKER_03]: when

[00:41:05] [SPEAKER_03]: He decides to put unhoused people to work in his factory

[00:41:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Now when I say that that is not what that means is is we have older people

[00:41:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Elderly people in blankets. We have people of varying various shapes and sizes

[00:41:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Children and we have children

[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_03]: There is a child

[00:41:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Child nine years old puts on a gang if you're listening at home

[00:41:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Puts on a full welding suit

[00:41:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Not as a joke not as like a holly it fits the welding suit fits

[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_03]: He is this look the thing about unions

[00:41:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I was a you for a part of a union for about three years of my life

[00:41:50] [SPEAKER_03]: And I've never felt more job security ever in a job that I didn't own

[00:41:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Ever then with a union when I got laid off because of seniority. I was the first one hire back

[00:41:57] [SPEAKER_03]: I got paid vacation

[00:41:58] [SPEAKER_03]: I was a part of Union the thing about unions is is there are different types of unions for different skills of workers

[00:42:04] [SPEAKER_03]: They're operating heavy machinery, there's a lot of liability that goes on here

[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_03]: He his big moment of what it means to be a good person is

[00:42:13] [SPEAKER_03]: The people that have worked their tails off for him to reap all the profits should remain out in the cold and these people who have

[00:42:20] [SPEAKER_03]: never operated heavy machinery

[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_03]: children elderly

[00:42:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Blankets loose-leaf clothing they could run this today with under an hour of training

[00:42:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Fingers yes, so the insult of as a union worker. You don't really know how to do anything is

[00:42:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Exacerbated by the fact that not only can I train these people in an hour

[00:42:42] [SPEAKER_03]: But that's what makes me a good person is getting an unhoused person a reason to live it is I

[00:42:50] [SPEAKER_03]: couldn't I

[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_03]: It is mind-boggling that you see a child in a full welding outfit

[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Not a bit not a bit

[00:42:58] [SPEAKER_03]: This is an actual premise of a group of people who think this is the answer to the problems in the economy

[00:43:07] [SPEAKER_02]: This is the guy who had invested in a child-sized welding suit just in case the governor finally got rid of those pesky rules about

[00:43:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Child labor which is starting to happen in this country. Yeah, yeah

[00:43:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, this is the child care like I'm telling you

[00:43:20] [SPEAKER_03]: This is the stuff that goes on in this movie was a Gilded Age problem like a legitimate like

[00:43:26] [SPEAKER_03]: First iteration of unions problem is what we're dealing with here brutal go ahead Bram

[00:43:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Several of the hallmarks where you wonder what could have been maybe having some clarity questions. We still have Alonzo

[00:43:35] [SPEAKER_01]: What are you still wondering about?

[00:43:38] [SPEAKER_02]: It's not so much that I'm wondering but I have to say like this discussion is reminding me that I'm kind of glad this movie

[00:43:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Exists because this is a this is a give them enough enough rope situation

[00:43:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Because this is basically somebody who is very clearly

[00:43:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Addressing and expressing their manifesto of like what should be and how the world should work and what their

[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_02]: version of

[00:44:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Christian love is and it's there for two hours for us to look at and go

[00:44:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry what you know, and so you you hear snippets of this kind of ideology from time to time

[00:44:12] [SPEAKER_02]: But if you get this full two-hour concentrated dose

[00:44:15] [SPEAKER_02]: This is now a thing that like somebody somewhere has to defend. Yeah, because it's just

[00:44:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Crazy pants. Yeah, the quiet part out loud is an under yes here exactly

[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah

[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Now what we didn't get at the end of this movie was an apology from Matthew to the union workers

[00:44:35] [SPEAKER_01]: That didn't burn down his

[00:44:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Establishment also that aren't getting their jobs. I've been given away. This is what I would like. I would like to

[00:44:43] [SPEAKER_01]: say in my

[00:44:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Wildest dreams now that Matthew has learned

[00:44:48] [SPEAKER_01]: the lessons of life

[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe this is what happens. They do indeed get that

[00:44:56] [SPEAKER_01]: insurance money and they're able to build it build back better and

[00:45:01] [SPEAKER_01]: The Union the Union then comes back to work. They get their jobs back

[00:45:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey folks that stayed there if you would like a job, there's a job waiting for you as well. But also

[00:45:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Usually embrace people who broke their story

[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Sure

[00:45:17] [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, maybe with the approval like hey, would you would you be interested?

[00:45:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Understanding that it started with

[00:45:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey

[00:45:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Just we will want a place to stay and then the guy that burned down the building was really like hey

[00:45:32] [SPEAKER_02]: You can't fill our brand new graveyard shift. So yes, and then

[00:45:37] [SPEAKER_01]: inspired by

[00:45:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Goodwill towards men he builds an amazing

[00:45:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Community of houses for the unhoused that have places to stay with heat and air and

[00:45:53] [SPEAKER_01]: He's he's all the better for it we didn't get that at the end of this movie

[00:45:57] [SPEAKER_01]: We didn't get any apologies or anything like that

[00:46:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So I filled in some of those blanks your national treasure of how I would in my wildest dreams

[00:46:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Matt literally handle handle that situation

[00:46:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And maybe this town's thriving now Alonzo did

[00:46:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Spoil mine a bit, but I just want to know how many not days how many hours before this guy opened up a graveyard shift

[00:46:20] [SPEAKER_03]: This is very clear. Everyone worked for me 730 to 330 and that's it

[00:46:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Now he's got people there around the clock. My man is making auto parts around the clock

[00:46:32] [SPEAKER_03]: You know it I know it. It's not what brand said. It's what I said. It's unfortunate

[00:46:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Also, hey love people and give of yourself and give generously and be just be someone that this movie isn't about please

[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_03]: So I don't really care who you do in the name of just do it for the love of everything good and decent a world

[00:46:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Full of Matthews be a James. I think is the moral

[00:46:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's

[00:46:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's look forward to next week where we're oh

[00:47:02] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the times finally come we're gonna do Atlas shrugged really that's crazy
