BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS

IT's time for a little history lesson, ok? So, a massive meteorite made of vibranium crashed into Africa Five tribes go to war over it until one warrior consumes a mysterious heart-shaped herb altered by the vibranium and gains incredible abilities, becoming the first Black Panther.

He unites the tribes and establishes the hidden nation of Wakanda. Over generations, Wakanda becomes the most technologically advanced civilization on Earth while hiding in plain sight.

In 1992, King T’Chaka visits his younger brother, N'Jobu in California, where he has been working undercover. T’Chaka discovers that he has secretly helped a black-market arms dealer steal vibranium from Wakanda. When confronted, he turns violent, forcing T’Chaka to kill him. To protect Wakanda’s secrets, T’Chaka abandons N’Jobu’s young son in America and covers up the truth.

Got it? Good. Years later, the King is killed and Prince T’Challa returns home to be crowned king of Wakanda. During the event, M’Baku of the Jabari Tribe challenges T’Challa for the throne in ritual combat. T’Challa wins but spares M’Baku’s life. I'm sure that's for no reason though.

Soon after, this dude name Claw shows up in London and steals an artifact from Wakanda at a Museum. Oh and some dude named Erik Stevens is with him. T'Challa goes to this party to try to capture Klaw but it doesn't go well and leads to a massive chase through the city. This dude that works for the government named Ross ends up being quite hurt, so T'Challa ends up rescuing him and bringing him to Wakanda to heal him with their neat tech.

Zuri tells T'Challa some juicy info about how they left this kid in Oakland with no father and that kid grew up to be Erik Stevens and he now goes by Killmonger cuz of how many people he's killed and he's probably coming for us so hide your kids, hide your wife.

Killmonger murders Claw and delivers his body to Wakanda, earning an audience before the tribal elders. Revealing himself as son of N’Jobu and wants to challenge for the throne. T'Challa agrees and loses and is thrown off a waterfall cliff. He is now the king.

Killmonger prepares to send vibranium weapons to operatives around the world to begin a global revolution.

T'Challa's family leaves to asks M'Baku for help. Turns out, he has T'Challa on ice b ut in a good way. They use the heart-shaped herb to bring him back and restore his powers.

T’Challa returns to Wakanda for a final battle. T’Challa and Killmonger have a creazy fight and T'Challa is able to disable Killmonger suit. T'Challa offers Killmonger a change to live but he choses death instead, but T'Challa lets him watch one last sunset.

T’Challa decides Wakanda can no longer hide from the world. He opens an outreach center in Oakland at the very place where N’Jobu died. T’Challa then appears before the United Nations and reveals Wakanda’s true technological power to the world.

And then to connect it all to the Avengers, his sister Shuri helps Bucky Barnes continue his recovery in Wakanda.

[00:04:29] Like stuff that I couldn't do There needed to be Glue and adhesives Yada, yada, yada And so it made sense To get the Michaels credit card I use it very seldom I'm sure it's just gonna expire Here at some point But I do own one, yeah All right I have more Michaels credit cards Than I have notes on Black Panther Let me tell you Well, there you go Hopefully you can figure it out We are Yeah, long synopsis here, Bran Take your time I mean, there's a lot that happens In Black Panther, I think I think that's fair to say, yes Yeah, for sure Black Panther Black Panther Originally premiered

[00:08:56] That need it We're going to Start a global Revolution Right T'Challa's Family leaves To ask Mabaku For help Turns out He actually Has T'Challa On ice But in a good Way And they use The heart shaped Herb To bring him Back Shout out Herb Shout out Herb And it Restores his Powers T'Challa then Returns to Wakanda for A final battle T'Challa and Killmonger They have this

[00:09:25] Crazy fight T'Challa is Able to Disable Kingmonger's Suit T'Challa then Offers Killmonger A chance To live But he Chooses Death instead But T'Challa Does him A solid Let's him See one Last Sunset What a Guy T'Challa Decides that Wakanda can No longer Hide from The world And they're Going to Open up A outreach Center in Oakland California Believe it or Not Right where The whole Situation happened At the beginning Of this movie T'Challa then Appears before The United Nations Reveals

[00:09:55] Wakanda's Technological Power This is Groundbreaking To them Can't believe it And then you Might be wondering To yourself So How's this Connect To the Avengers Well Shuri His sister Is actually Helping Bucky Barnes Continuing His recovery In where Wakanda And that My friends Was The Black Panther We Is there A the At the beginning I'm looking it up Right

[00:10:24] I think you're Right I think it's Just Really Every time They say Every time Forrest Whitaker Says it He says The Black Yeah but It's mainly Embarrassing Yeah it is Super embarrassing Mainly Mainly Are you Gonna Take the rest Of the episode On I think I might I think I might I can't Find my Notes And so It's one Of those Things Did you find It's gonna Be fine Oh dear god Alright we're Gonna be right Back Okay You're on Deck the hall Mark

[00:10:55] Guys I'll pull Back to curtain A little bit Because this Is hilarious It's so funny Lastly I don't know If it came Through Please pull back This curtain I don't know Alyssa Figured it out I don't know If it came Through in the Episode But Rye Guy Had actually Accidentally Watched Black Panther That's right Instead of Thor He wore his Black Panther Hooded sweatshirt In his defense He has seen Thor Ragnarok Quite a few Times So he felt Comfortable Moving forward And did you Watch it afterwards Did you watch It afterwards Yeah yeah I've ranked Everything

[00:11:24] We're good To go Okay The only thing You messed up On I 100% Took notes On Black Panther The only Thing you Messed up On was Because of me Brand led You the wrong Way on Idris Elba It's my fault It got you That was Brands No it's not But to be Clear Rye Guy Missed last Week's movie Because he was Too busy Watching Black Panther Taking notes On that Prepping Wearing the Sweatshirt We get to The Black Panther Episode And the Black Panther Notes are Nowhere to Be found Along with The sweatshirt And I've Now watched It so long Have you Checked the

[00:11:54] Sweatshirt Maybe the Notes are In there No I don't Think so I don't Typically Handwrite All right Let's get to Our hot Texas We're sure Exactly how I felt about This movie And I Believe Raga you're Going to give An updated Ranking Because you Yeah By the way I didn't use My skip Last week I used my Hold There's a big Difference And like Okay fair Enough He used His hold He used His hold It was a Good use Too I still Have my Skip For a Future Yeah

[00:12:24] Yeah listen I love This movie And I Loved it Before I Even saw It Because in The lead Up to It Knowing that Ryan Coogler Was directing I had seen You know Creed comes Out Two years Prior to This I believe So Yes Yeah And I Thought Like Listen I'm a huge Rocky fan But I Loved Creed Because of Coogler's Direction And the Performances And what Have you But that Movie was So much Better than It had Any right To be Because of Ryan Coogler The seventh

[00:12:53] Rocky movie Was like A borderline You know Oscar worthy Film It's a top Ten sports Movie of All time Oh Absolutely For me It's number One Yeah But Now I had also Seen Fruitvale Station I thought That was Incredible Unbelievable Yeah So and To know That him And Michael B Who's in Both of Those films Were collaborating On this Even though Michael B Was not The lead Here It's obviously Chadwick Boseman I was incredibly Excited There also Was a lot Of cultural

[00:13:23] Pressure on This film Because it was A very Very Very Big deal Depending on Who you talk To Blade Was the First Was the first Ever Black Leading Man In a Superhero Film And I Think for All intents and Purposes That is True But you Know But this Was the First Marvel Led Black Superhero Leading a Film And you Know for All intents and Purposes Marvel and Superhero Had become Tissue and Kleenex Right So this Was very Very Very Big

[00:13:52] I think The movie Would have Been Well seen And made A lot of Money no Matter what But for it To actually Be good Like what A bonus This movie Is not Good It's great It's a Great Superhero Film It's a Great Film Chadwick's Incredible Michael B Is incredible I think I Said last Week when Talking about Thor Ragnarok And I Hope my Point Didn't Get Misconstrued That My one Critique On this Film Is that I can Tell that Marvel Kind of

[00:14:22] Put you Know clamps On Coogler At certain Points Where They let Taika Waititi Just be Funny I think If Ryan Coogler Was going To make A superhero Vehicle Outside of The Marvel Cinematic Universe This film Could have Even been Better But that's Not to Say that This film Isn't Great Because it Is Is it Standalone Yes Which is To pull the Curtain back Even further Why I got Confused Because Thor Ragnarok You can Put this Anywhere In the Timeline Thor Ragnarok Leads Directly Into Infinity War Like

[00:14:52] Directly The last What's That shit Yeah Yeah Yeah The problem Is Infinity War is coming Out in the Summer And this Movie came Out during Black History Month And so You couldn't By the way Great Decision It's like You know I have No No Beef Of that Whatsoever But that Was the Reason For my Confusion That's All you Said Before Yeah Ragnarok Was real Pissed About that The release Day He said I don't Get it Sterling K. Brown I understand

[00:15:30] Why you're The better I loved It And so And for The end Of it For me Like you Know Again I think The cultural Significance Would have Taken it Over the Line No matter What The fact That it's Great Is a Bonus But for That Last Scene Before The mid Credit Scene Just For that Kid In Oakland To see That Spaceship And the Symbolism That And what It represents The movie Is great I have it At two Overall Just a Skosh Behind Winter Soldier Just a Skosh But I I Soul That Winter Soldiers Ahead Of Black

[00:16:00] Panther I Soul Crushing I Said Nothing But Positive Things About It's Like I'm Gonna Cry It Hurts My Civil War In This Movie Though Yeah I

[00:16:30] Got Winter Soldier Black Panther Civil War One Two Three In That Order I Got You There You Go Yeah This movie Is a Ripper Folks This Is In My Opinion Up To This Point The Greatest Superhero Movie Ever Made I Think It

[00:17:00] Is Not A Single Boring Part Of This Movie There's Not A Single Conversation Wasted There's Not A Single Part Of The In The Screen With The CGI That Looks Bad Everything In This Movie Is Perfect Casting Perfect We Talked About You Already Mentioned So Many Amazing People That Are In This Movie It's It's It's Incredible And It's I Have I've Seen This Movie Quite A Few Times Now And I'm Never Upset When I Get

[00:17:30] To Watch It Again And So I Love This Movie This Is My Number One Movie Overall And It Might Stay There I Honestly I Don't Know I Have Not I I Even Going Into This I Was Like I Know I Love Black Panther But Don't Walk Away And To Me The Best One So Far Movie But Yeah It's Number One We'll See How It

[00:18:00] Plays Out I Could Very Well Be My Favorite Superhero Movie Of All Time I'm Excited Wow We We We Had I'm Thrilled That I Didn't Have To Do This The Next Day Because I Would Have Just Been Weeping The Whole Time This Movie Is Amazing It Is The

[00:18:30] Best Marvel Movie By So Far It's Unimaginable And I Think These Guys Have Hit On Of A Far Greater Purpose Ryan Coogler If You Want The Weight Of The African American Community Was Literally On The Shoulders Of This Film I Don't I Can't Describe

[00:19:00] To You What It's Like To Watch A Movie With Two Nine Year Old Boys And The Biggest Compliment That They Can Give A Superhero Movie Is When The Credits Roll Dad I Want To Be X For Halloween And It Doesn't Happen Often But With This Movie That's All They Weren't And They Fought Over Their One Black Panther Costume This Meant The World To Them And They Didn't Know Why They Just Knew That They saw Someone On Screen That

[00:19:34] Is Immeasurable So If The Movie Sucked It Would Have Been Amazing You Need To Know That If The Movie Was Bad It Would All Of The Wealth And Sat On It And Did Nothing It Is An Indictment

[00:20:04] Of America And How They Treated Race And The Board In The MCU You

[00:20:55] Cannot Movie Theaters Throughout Alabama To Bus Up Fifth Graders And Send Them To This Movie That Matters This Movie Didn't Have To Be

[00:21:26] Down To Show My Kids This Movie Was Is I Wanted It To Be Special When They Watch This Movie And I Wanted Them To Watch The Marvel Movies In Order Turns Out A lot Of They Don't Want To Watch A Marvel Movie They Just They're In A spot Where They Don't Care Like I Care About These Movies And I All Of A I Can Sit Here And Tell You Why This Movie Is Great Technically We Watched How They Created

[00:21:56] Some Of The Scenes In This Movie Using A Combination Of Sound Stages Real Mountains And Rocks And CGI I Can Tell You How It's So Incredibly Directed I Can You just look at two boys of color who are nine years old and you look at their reaction. You can tell why it matters. This movie is amazing. It's one of one, period. And Ryan should be shot on sight for making it too. I'm just kidding. Well, that seems a little...

[00:22:27] I said nothing but great things about the film. I know. I'm just giving you a hard time. Yeah. It's one of one, but what is it out of 18? One. It's one. It's just one. It's one. Literally, guys, literally from the moment that Angela Bassett screams, show them who you are. I was on verge of tears the whole movie. I don't know what to tell you. I just was. So I'm not the best judge of this. This is a tough one for me. It's amazing. Honestly, this is how I feel watching every Hallmark Christmas movie. And you give me grief. Okay?

[00:22:57] You gave a thousand of them, Brandon. Finally! There's something that I identify with on screen. Finally! The oppressed Christmas lover, Brandon. That's right. That's right. Nobody got him. Nobody understood. Thank you. Yeah. All right. It's time for all the feels. We're talking about what in this movie gave us feels. Right, guy? I mentioned him earlier. Like, the only bummer about, I mean, Sterling K. Brown is so good in this and everything he does. The only bummer about him being in this, now granted, it's Marvel, so who knows?

[00:23:27] Maybe we'll see him in 15 more Marvel films, is that this is a critical role to this film, playing Michael B's father. But he's, I wanted him to be a longstanding MCU character. And so the bummer is, he's amazing. And like, you know, the perfect casting for that real critical role, because the dichotomy of Killmonger being both a villain, but also being able to go, you know, this guy makes a lot of sense. He makes a lot of really good points.

[00:23:54] Like, it's not the easiest line to walk. Well, go ahead. Sorry. No, no, no. I was going to say, Sterling K. is my feels out of an abundance of feels choices. But it's a bummer because I, at the same time, wish he could have been, insert superhero name that is in 20 more of these films. But go ahead. I was just going to say, I think the beauty of Sterling K. and Michael B. in this movie is that- They both have one letter for their middle name. That's right, of course.

[00:24:24] But also, everyone only knows one villain from the Black Panther universe, and it is Klaw. And it would have been very easy for Ryan Coogler to make the white South African the villain. That makes a lot of sense in a lot of what he's trying to do. But he refused to take the easy way out. And those two guys are villains in name only. They're Vinos. They're villains in name only.

[00:24:45] They are very much a part of a very important tapestry of feeling within the Black community. And it's an important, necessary, really good thing that he does. And he also makes a movie on Sterling K. Brown. And I think you can actually, weirdly enough, throw Martin Freeman in this mix, who not only did Ryan Coogler make a superhero movie for the African-American community, he even made a white comic sidekick.

[00:25:14] He even said, the one character in this movie that's going to matter, that is not of color, is going to be the comic relief. And how many movies with all white people have we seen where the person of color comes on just to make you laugh and feel comfortable? And he flipped that. And Martin Freeman's very important for that reason. And I think those are just two, like, even more reasons why you should love the movie. Yeah. My feels also involves Sterling K. Brown, who I love very much. But specifically, there's lots of great conversations in this movie, to be clear.

[00:25:44] And how many times can we say that in a Marvel movie? Yes. Not often. But the conversation when Killmonger does a thing and he is having a hallucination or whatever it is, a vision of his father having a conversation with his father. And he, we see Michael B. Grab the book, open up, grab the necklace. Sterling K. Brown says, what did I say about you going through my stuff? And then it comes back to him and he's now a boy. Yeah.

[00:26:14] Like when his dad speaks to him, he suddenly is a boy. And then that conversation is just unbelievable. What a ripper. And that kid also is great. The kid's amazing. Oh, underrated. Yeah. Amazing job in that scene. But yeah, a great, a great scene of many great scenes. But I figured I'd be the only one to call out Sterling K. And you beat me. Look at that. Can you believe that? That's about my notes. The guy can cry on cue. That's Sterling K. He's good. Yeah. He's good. Anything else, Stan? Yeah.

[00:26:43] So there's a lot of great moments in this movie that are very heartfelt and emotional and wonderful from him seeing his father to anything Forrest Whitaker says to these wonderful like passed down traditions. There's so much there, but I can tell you the moment of this movie is, hey, auntie. It is, it is without question. Hey, auntie. I don't know how, like I was, I never called my aunt on anything but aunt my whole life. Right.

[00:27:11] And I'm sitting in this movie opening night in a packed theater. And when Michael B. Jordan says, hey, auntie, the crowd went nuts. I'm talking insane. Like, like, oh my God, I can't believe this is happening. Like this is, this is a movie where Ryan Coogler, a guy who in interviews refuses to code switch. So Ryan Coogler is not going to break out his white voice. So you under, you under, you, you at home listening, feel comfortable. He's going to speak how he always speaks.

[00:27:41] And he's while breaking down different IMAX formats. Go and listen to on film with Kevin McCarthy. I love Ryan Coogler. Listen to right on film. Kevin McCarthy, the Ryan Coogler episode is 30 minutes long. Listen to him, break down dialect and music and history for 30 minutes. And he will do it in a voice that would make a lot of my relatives uncomfortable in period. That's what he like. Like that's who he is.

[00:28:06] And so in this movie, the way that Killmonger speaks is a, is a dude who is of royal descent raised in Compton. That is the story of the African American. You know, there are, there is royalty in their blood, but they are here not by choice, but by force. And for him to come in like he owns the place because he does and immediately give an American familial greeting in the way that he does it.

[00:28:35] I'm taught brought the house down. And I was like, that was maybe the theater I was in. And then I watched it with my children. And when he does that, both of my kids went, oh, just like that. Like I'm talking stood up off the couch, rewind it, play it again. The moment of this movie where Ryan Coogler's like, I'm doing me is Hey, auntie. That is the moment of this movie. And it's phenomenal. And, and Michael B is so good in that scene. It's great.

[00:29:05] It's, it's, it's just perfect. It's per, it's perfect movie. I think he's got a future. I think he might do it. I think he might be okay. Yeah. Um, all right, let's take a break. We'll come back. We will bring this movie down some more here on deck. All mark. I need you. Whenever you're ready. Can you kiss it? Welcome back, everybody. We're talking about Black Panther today. Um, a reminder, we're actually, uh, taking a break next week. We're off Memorial Day.

[00:29:35] Memorial Day. So we're, uh, we're pressing pause on Memorial Marvel. Um, might have a replay or something. Something. But the next movie of people don't want to hear the kid ranking episode again. We could do that one. Yeah. One hundred percent. Yeah. Um, all right, everybody. Let's, uh, let's get to the wait. What? And, uh, I'll start with you. Right guy. Anything in this movie? You go away. What? Slim pickings here, but I will say, uh, no one, no one seems that like T'Chaka has only

[00:30:03] died a few days ago. Yeah. Everybody, we got to move along. Like, Shuri is not upset at all that her dad is dead. Uh, and so, granted, you know, and, uh, Civil War wraps up in a way where T'Challa has accepted his father's death. So I think we are supposed to, uh, proceed that to believe that in the interim between him getting, uh, you know, finished up with Civil War and back to Wakanda that we've all processed.

[00:30:29] And although that it was a tragedy at the hands of another, uh, evil organization that, you know, T'Challa had lived a good life and what have you. But, uh, I feel like Shuri could have been upset for five seconds or so. Yeah. Especially considering how she's going to take the death of her brother. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So that's going to be a big deal. Yeah. Um, brand, I, and listen, I'm not here to one. I only have two more. One of which is, and I just kind of want your guys' opinion on this.

[00:30:58] You think, I, I, I thought I heard you say, you think the CGI in this film was like a significant step above most MCU fair? I did for sure. I, I, I will just say this. I didn't see anything that I, in my opinion, didn't look good. That's fair. I, I, the only thing I, I would slightly push back on it. I'll be honest. I'm an idiot. It took me more than the first viewing of this film to realize, oh, wow, they're fighting in an underground railroad. That's insane. Like what?

[00:31:24] Like, but I think that that CGI just takes me out of it a little bit every time it's, it's tough. It's two CGI trains. It's not the easiest thing. The suits are somewhat CGI, but that's like a minor nitpick. I will say what I would say about that is, and I'm, I bet you a lot of people listening right now had yet to pick up on the underground railroad of it all. Uh, but when I say it looked great, anything that's supposed like, look Thor Ragnarok and guardians of the galaxy too can do whatever they want.

[00:31:53] It's this movie all takes place on planet earth. And so if you have trains built off of vibranium, I don't, those can look, however you decide like James gun can throw just a glop on the screen and be like, no, that's an alien. And you have to be like, yes, it is. So like when I say everything looks good, I'm speaking particularly of the scene set in Wakanda proper and, uh, and the stuff where they're fighting in the water because we want like, well, that stuff's incredible. I was watching it with brand again yesterday.

[00:32:22] And I said, I wonder if they used practical cause it looks so good. And we watched how they did it and the, yeah, the train underground doesn't look like a real train, but I like to me, I put that in the boat of movies that take place in an, in another train in a boat. The train goes in a boat and we fly it over to Ragnarok. Yeah. That's how we do it. You get it. Um, that's fair. Uh, and then the last one and Dan, I agree with you a hundred percent that, uh, Killmonger

[00:32:51] Michael B's confidence upon arriving in Wakanda is perfect. I do just kind of wonder from, uh, it, it just seems like he, he kills claw and he's, it just seemed kind of easy to get to Wakanda. I don't know. Like, you know, it's, I mean, he's Wakandan. I think that I don't mind that from a standpoint of watching this. In a vacuum.

[00:33:16] But I think, I think if you understand the trajectory of the importance of the Michael B Jordan character, like is the, um, the African American, like is the African American, right? Wakanda is like white America and, and Michael B is like the African American who has by name has all of the rights and privileges bestowed upon, but has none of it doesn't get any of the privilege. Cause he's, he's been living in, you know, not regarded as such. Right.

[00:33:46] And so him getting back there, I think is just, I, I, my guess is, is that we just got to get moving. Now this may have been an area where Marvel goes, you got to shorten the movie. Well, that's, that's my point from earlier where I say, I am in no way, shape or form. I just do want to clarify this. I know I'm running on. Sorry. I, in no way, shape or form am I saying Ryan Coogler did not do an incredible job. I know. I just wonder, right guy. We're just kidding. I just wonder if that Warner brothers was distributing this film and not the MCU.

[00:34:13] If certain aspects of it could have been even greater than already. There's not a scene of, of Michael B Jordan somewhere on the cutting room floor of him taking like a deep breath before walking through the force fields or whatever. Like, well, I mean, you do when he talks about his hands, when he does that speech and talks about the ancestors and we see the different grains come up and we actually see slaves getting on a slave ship. Like you can tell that Coogler probably had 20 pages of this. Exactly.

[00:34:41] You can tell that he, he knows what he's doing. You can tell that he's, he is living in a time in 2008. This movie was in 2017. It was made in 17 released in February of 18. He's living in a time where oppression seems to be ticking up a bit because of a certain election. He's living in a time where he's angry and he gets the opportunity to talk about what it means to really be a superhero. And so you could, I don't know if it was Marvel or not. I guess I shouldn't. And that's to be fair.

[00:35:11] I guess I'm kind of crapping on Marvel and I don't have any proof of that. I get that that would happen. You've heard it happen, but you can tell he's sprinkling in as much as he can while not losing the shred of the whole thing. Yeah. Right. I totally agree. I do have a few. One early on in the movie, there is a. A, after the king is dead, there's a news person talking about the king of Wakanda is dead. Wakanda, a developing nation. That's right. We don't know much about him. Their forest is impenetrable.

[00:35:39] So, and at that point, like. Their forest is impenetrable. We don't really know. It's just a dead. We don't know. It's like a wall forest. There's nothing we can really. We know their third world, but also their forest is impenetrable. There is one thing you need to know about them. And you can't, it's yet you physically can't go through. One thing we know is we don't know. We don't know. But, you know, the king's dead. Yeah. Well, I mean. We do know that. The only thing I can figure there is, is that the Avengers clearly do know. Like. Have to. Yeah.

[00:36:08] They know because they know who Black Panther is and they know that he's not just a kid. Like, they know that. And they're clearly working with the government to keep it under wraps. I don't know. Still a stretch. If I'm watching the news, though, I'm like, what's up with that? I need to go out there and see it. What's up with that? Impenetrable forest. That's where they're keeping big points. You know you're going to get the. Casual news viewers going, I've never even heard of Wakanda before. Much less there being an impenetrable forest. The adventure seekers out there are all flying to Wakanda. They're all like, I'm going to, you think it's impenetrable. You wait and see what I do.

[00:36:38] We'll see. At one point when Michael B and co steal the thing, they sneak out. They roll Michael Jordan onto ambulance and he pops before the doors close. He pops up out of the bed and starts kissing the girl. And I'm like, maybe just wait till the doors close. Like, it just seems like you're really throwing caution to the wind there. Just wait until they close. I think that would help you out. Potentially. You didn't get caught, so it's fine.

[00:37:09] But during the battle scene, the planes do a thing where they kind of go like this and then they just fall backwards. Zero gravity. Yeah, man. And then take off. And it's cool they can do it. It's cool they can do it. Isn't the most efficient way. You have to wonder. This is how you know it's a good movie. Like, we used to see planes take off all kinds of ways and nobody blinked an eye. The plane to just fall down into a canyon and then go. It just, why not just do this?

[00:37:38] Why not just do this? What about the swoop? It really helps that plane to reach its fullest potential. Then my last one. Everyone in this movie during this battle that tries to attack Killmonger from behind yells before they do it. And guys, just try a sneak attack. Let's try it. Everyone's like, ah! And then he's like, hey, it's me. Just try it.

[00:38:08] Let's try it. Let's just try one. He's clearly quite talented. Very skilled. But let's just try a sneak attack. I'm not saying it's definitely going to work, but we do know that yelling beforehand doesn't. We've seen that happen. And so maybe let's just try a sneak attack. Just try it. Yeah, I only have two. And one is the first. It's not the planes, if you can believe it. The first time that there's a battle sequence, the Black Panther and Okoye are in the plane.

[00:38:35] And they're talking about how he wants, what's her name, to be at his coronation. And they use a technology where the vibranium shows the caravan. And then he picks up one of these dusty models and then can zoom into it and see specifically where she is in there. And boy, that's some great technology that's never used the rest of the movie.

[00:39:02] And I feel like that tech is quite a leg up on your opponent. I feel like if you have that tech, you should be using it all the time. It's weird now that they didn't use it the rest of the way because it's so much of an advantage that it seemed like a real weird one off for them to show unless I'm missing something. So that was my big one. The other one I have is, and this is more, could be a what a marvel, but 1992, Michael B. Jordan's character is out there shooting ball at night.

[00:39:31] He looks 11. Is that fair? 10, 11, 12? Something like that. Yeah. He's definitely older than my kids. Like he looks like he's like fifth, sixth, seventh grade. Like that's what he looks like in 92. And then we cut to 2018, which is 26 years later. Well, we assume. Yes. Because. We don't know what year it is in Marvel time. We don't know what it is. Remember my thing with the Spider-Man?

[00:40:01] Whatever year it is. But it could actually be later than 2018. Yes. Actually. We don't know what's going on. I think it has to at least be 2018. Yeah. And that would make Killmonger around 40. Yeah. Michael B. Jordan, the Killmonger's aged great is all I'm saying. What I'm getting to here is Michael B. He's 30 when he does this role and he's playing a 40 year old and nobody blinks an eye. That guy still looks 30 right now. Well, you know what's interesting about that? Unrelated.

[00:40:30] But one of the more ridiculous parts of Creed 3, even though they are actually representing Michael B.'s relative exact age. Yeah. They want us to believe that Adonis is old. That's right. And getting ready to retire. I'm like, this guy looks younger than me. No. You know? It's like so. No, no, no. He looks great. But in this movie, he's actually just 30. Right. Yeah. He's a young man. But he's playing basically 40 or close to it. They don't want you to think about it.

[00:40:57] And this is the first time I watched the movie and I went, Killmonger's age, great. Maybe murdering is the secret. Maybe the fact that he's murdered thousands of people, maybe that's what's keeping him young. Well, right. But it's interesting. They chose 92. They did. I think it's because Ryan Coogler. My guess is Ryan Coogler's from the area and that's about, you know, he's 39 right now. So I think they want you to like follow a lot.

[00:41:27] He's kind of like throwing it back to him. You know what I mean? That would be my guess anyway. Whereas in 92, he would have been six years old. Right. We're basically the same age. But most of his movies have Compton or that part of California in the movie. Like Fruitvale, the Creed movies. Like they, even though he goes to Philadelphia, like he starts in California. Yeah. Yeah. So like that's a big part of his whole thing. So I mean, maybe that's it, but you know, we don't need to give Michael B any help aging.

[00:41:56] Well, is all I'm trying to say. That's my only other way. It is time for what a Marvel. That's where we ask any questions. I don't think that's what we do here, Brian. I honestly, I don't know what this is. Right. I really like that. The, the intro, the Marvel signature at the top of the film is actually the one that they used in Black Panther 2 to honor Chadwick Boseman. I feel like somehow we haven't talked about Chadwick Boseman enough. Oh my. We haven't.

[00:42:24] And I know we mentioned him during the Civil War a lot. And so I will just say unabashedly, he is incredible. And like, and so many of the problems that to make it about Marvel proper, so many of the problems that Marvel is having now is that Chadwick Boseman is irreplaceable. Right. And so, but what I am really curious about going forward is I've only seen Black Panther 2 in theaters once. I remember liking it.

[00:42:52] I remember going, they did as good of a possible job as they could have done considering the circumstances. I maybe would have made a few creative decisions differently, but like, I thought they landed the plane just fine, but it's a film that I haven't thought about much since. And I believe Dan, you said a couple months ago that you think that film is like legitimately great. So it's a top five Marvel for me. Okay. I'm excited. I, I, I remember the broad strokes. Um, I remember them thinking that they landed the Chadwick, um, you know, tributes perfectly

[00:43:21] and that the rest of the film just for me was not forgettable, but just hasn't really stuck with me. So I'm excited to watch that when they get there, but also really cool that they put that signature in this film. It's the only Marvel film I believe they've edited in post for Disney plus like that. Um, and so I thought that was really cool. But also I think Chadwick Boseman, like this is a guy who found out he had stage three or stage four colon cancer and just decided that he was going to make art.

[00:43:49] Like, like literally like you hear Coogler and talk about like he and Michael B have this shorthand and they're just brothers and best friends. And then my, and Chadwick shows up on the set of the first black Panther and is like, no one took it as seriously as he did. He knew what was needed and what had to be done. And, and, and Coogler's like, Michael and I are looking at each other. Like we got a, we got a third amigo. Like we have a third, like we're going to all three of us go and make so many movies together and do these things. And this guy I think is figuring this out.

[00:44:18] I think during or around the time black Panther is made and just decides he's going to try his best to get well. But like, I mean, did he, did he know his diagnosis? I don't remember the exact timeline. It might, he might not know yet during the filming of black Panther, but it's pretty close. There are videos of him where TMZ or somebody caught him and he looks emaciated and people were like, he's on drugs. He's blah, blah, blah. And he's just refusing like Viola Davis talks about on my Rainey's black bottom that he between takes would go over.

[00:44:47] He was sweating so much and he would have all of these people he had hired to be around. And they were spraying incense at him and he's taking all this natural stuff. And she thought he was standoffish uppity and holistic and had no, like even at that point, like, and he was dead before the awards. So like he literally right after that movie passed away and she didn't even know then. But I don't believe he ever told anybody. He didn't tell anybody. Yeah. And so this guy, yeah. Am I wrong in my memory?

[00:45:17] But that's what I'm saying. Coogler, didn't he have two written? Yes. Yeah. No, I mean, that's the thing. Which is crazy. Black Panther 2 is a total rework. Well, Namor was going to be in it regardless, I believe. Right. But I guess that's a total rework. How quickly he was able to turn that. Yeah. And we'll talk about it when we get there. Of course. Again, I don't want to make it just about the business of Marvel, but also for all intents and purposes to look ahead. Black Panther, the reason Chris Evans and RDJ can leave is because Chadwick Boseman was going to be the centerpiece of Marvel. Yes.

[00:45:47] Yeah. So that's obviously a far, far, far less important aspect than everything else we're talking about. But it does change the trajectory of Marvel. This is a guy from the upstate of South Carolina who never turned down an opportunity to play a black hero. Like, I don't know. Like, you just need to sit with that if you're listening for a second. So I thought a lot about that as well. Jackie Robinson. Yeah. James Brown. Thurgood Marshall. Guys, these are Mount Rushmore level black men.

[00:46:16] These are men that stood in the face of direct, overt oppression and worked their tails off anyway because they were better. And he and then black, the first real like I'm no, but no offense to blade, obviously, but the first like legit, like the first Marvel superhero. Like, this is a guy who spent his entire adult life going yes to the hardest job. Yes to the job with the biggest expectations.

[00:46:44] And every in all of those movies, I'm not the biggest get on up fan as a movie, but all those movies, this dude is amazing. He's not good. He's 42 is awesome. 42 is awesome. It's got seven o'clock in it too. That guy plays. Yeah. Wild casting. Yeah. And I got to be honest, Marshall is sneaky good. Better than 42 in my opinion, but you need to go and watch it. You need to go watch all of those movies.

[00:47:14] This guy never missed. He just never missed. He was so, so, so, so good. So yeah, Chadwick Boseman, we didn't mention enough. And he's also from, from here. So there's that brand. It's you, bud. I was looking up his diagnosis stuff, but I got stuck on the development of this movie. Maybe this might answer why 1992. I don't know. In June of 1992, Wesley Snipes announced his intentions to make a film about the Black Panther and began work on it by in August.

[00:47:44] And then I guess for whatever reason, it didn't, it didn't come. That's pre-Blade. So he ended up with Blade, I guess. I don't know if that was like a, a way for Kugler to like honor that. Could be. Like, Hey, like you were originally going to try to do this in 92. And, um, so yeah. And then it does seem like he did have, he, he was diagnosed in 2016. So it's probably like, okay. So yeah, I mean, he was, I knew, I knew that, but I didn't want to step out and just be wrong

[00:48:14] about something that big. It normally doesn't bother me that he was, he knew during the entire making of this movie, his entire MCU run. Yes. What he's dealing with. Yes. Yeah. I mean, I mean, God, that's insane. Yeah. Wild. Yeah. Uh, so I don't really know what to do with that, but I just, that's my Marvel is that he did it. That's my Marvel. My crazy. My what a Marvel is a courtesy of brand yesterday who informed me that Denzel Washington's

[00:48:42] going to be in black Panther three, which I just like, I can't even begin. I guess, uh, I, I guess I'll watch Denzel again. I guess I'll watch Ryan Coogler direct Denzel Washington. Yeah. I like, I don't even know, like, are you kidding me right now? Are you kidding me right now? Like, are we like, we're in the best timeline somehow? I don't like, this is far and away the most excited, excited I've been for a Marvel movie

[00:49:11] since end game. And it's not even close. Like, and he's not even started working on it yet. He's working on X files. So, you know, but I mean, is that serious? Yes. Yeah. Do you know that? Ryan Coogler is making an X files. Ryan Coogler is making X files. It's a series, right? It's a series. By the way, I didn't know the reason why I feel like he and I might really be good friends. He just makes this. He like, oh, I'm a big Rocky fan. Let's make. Like, well, that's what I would do. That's about his dad. If we ever read Creed, the story of his dad is unbelievable.

[00:49:41] But Creed cries days. Yeah. Yeah. He Coogler. Rocky. Rocky. Rocky. I don't think he's directing every episode, but he's heavily involved. Series. Yes. Oh, wow. Yeah. Crazier. But I mean, also no offense to the X files fans, but full offense to the X files fans. There are more important things to do. And it's black Panther three. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They're no offense to Ryan Google. There probably is better uses of his time.

[00:50:09] But he comes off centers. Maybe once just a fun one. What is if this is going to be just a silly fun X files time for him? One for us. I mean, I think one for the X files fans. I do think all of Coogler movies are for him too, though, because all of them are 100% pretty darn good. Yeah. But to that point, just imagine like centers, like direct directorially speaking is like, imagine if he could have just done that with black Panther. Right.

[00:50:35] It's like, but no, with no constraints from, you know, I don't know how to tell you this. Black Panther is the best superhero movie ever made. It's not a top three Coogler movie. Take it to the bank. Yeah, I would agree with that. I don't know what you want. Like he's that talented. It is the best superhero movie ever made. It's not a top three movie. He's made guys like it. Just isn't Creed Fruitvale and centers. One centers, one Fruitvale to Creed three.

[00:51:05] For me personally, those three movies are better than this movie or Creed one. Creed one for the only director. The reason why Creed three are up to snuff is because he hasn't directed. This guy's crazy talented. He's immensely talented and he was a division one wide receiver, not even concentrating on directing movies at the time. So there's that. All right. All right. All right. We're off next Monday. Following week, we kick back off with Avengers Infinity War. Yes. Infinity War. I have notes for that one.

[00:51:35] Okay. I don't believe you. I think I did pretty good again, by the way. You're great. Thank you. Great job. Thank you. All right. Coming back for that until then.
