[00:00:00] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast. Live from the North Pole, it's time for Christmas Morning. The Daily Show where every day is Christmas. Here are your hosts, Bran and Scott. Merry Christmas Eve to you and your, and to your good friend, Bran.

[00:00:38] I'm here with my good friend, Scott. Scott, Merry Christmas Eve. You know, I would say this is literally the day that we've been counting down to all year. Of course it's actually Christmas, but these two together, I always get more excited on Christmas Eve.

[00:00:52] It's the anticipation, not the event for me. So exciting. So exciting to be here with you. My favorite day of the year, by far. A Sunday. A Sunday Christmas Eve hanging out with us here at the North Pole.

[00:01:06] So much to get to. Do we get any Christmas Eve emails for us today? We do. Let's open up the bail bag. Letters. We get letters. We get stacks and stacks of letters. From Mark Ashley, he says, I love the podcast.

[00:01:23] I'm a few episodes behind and just listening now to the December 1st episode when you talked about cutting down Christmas trees in national forests. I haven't done this in years, but it's been around forever.

[00:01:33] I grew up in New Mexico and some of my fondest memories are going to the forest about our Christmas tree each year. And yes, you have to take your own saw, depending on how deep into the forest you go, is all up to you,

[00:01:44] as is how far you want to drag it back to your car. My best memory one year is our neighbor wasn't able to go, and we got an extra permit to get them a tree as well.

[00:01:53] We cut down two trees, loaded it up on top of our Jeep wagon here, and drove roughly the one hour trip home to pull up and realize we only had one tree left on top of the car.

[00:02:03] Not sure where the other one went. Hopefully somebody enjoyed themselves a free tree. Thanks for the podcast of Bringing Happiness this time of year. That's a funny story, Brandon. That is funny. How about that?

[00:02:13] Well, it's good to know that somebody has done it, you know, just trotted out into the forest and got a tree. Yeah, I hope nobody was listening to Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and, you know, driving unsafely

[00:02:23] and all of a sudden a tree went through their windshield. Forget about it. One more email from Andrea Zellner. She says, I was listening to your delightful podcast and your discussion of the $5 cut your own tree from the National Forestry Service.

[00:02:35] I can do one better. One day I came home from work and my spouse had cut down our Christmas tree from our front yard. She really wanted to update our landscaping so it was a twofer. That was a real surprise and quite the talking point all season long.

[00:02:48] I've attached the time lapse pics of the whole saga. It makes me laugh every year to remember and I keep threatening to plant more seedlings so we can do it again.

[00:02:56] And if you look at this collage photo, Brandon, it's like nice house with a tree. Nice house, no tree. It's great. Nice house, tree on its side outside the door. And then the last one is tree up in the living room.

[00:03:08] Gotta be honest. It's a nice Christmas tree. It is a nice Christmas tree. It really is. They just had that outside all those years. How about that? I mean, I can't blame them. You know, the spouse was just looking at that thing too.

[00:03:18] Like, you know what would be so much easier this year, Brandon? It will save 90 bucks. Boom. Done. Even save just five bucks. It's worth it. Absolutely. That's right. And these are not all the emails that we've gotten about people cutting down trees.

[00:03:31] I just haven't gotten to the others and I promise there's no rhyme or reason to which ones I pick. It's usually about the length and trying to fit it in. So if I haven't gotten to yours, I really, really apologize. It's just so hard. Yeah, more than fair.

[00:03:44] TV Scotty is just one man. I'm the best you can. I'm the completely different guy. Completely. We have a whole group of Scotty's. They take a bus here. Right. I don't have any new reviews for you, Scotty, but I do have a fun fact for you.

[00:03:57] All right. Make sure it's fun. It's Christmas Eve. I think it's kind of fun. This is maybe something to look forward to. Did you know that National Candy Cane Day is actually the day after Christmas? Boxing Day?

[00:04:10] Yes. And I was trying to figure out like, I was like, why is this? I don't really know. There's no like real reason for it according to National Day. Oh, I know why because they're on sale at Walmart. That's what? That might be it.

[00:04:20] But I was also thinking a lot of people put candy canes on trees and you know, a good bit of people on decorate the day after Christmas. It's fair game on the day after Christmas. So you start taking them off. So maybe that's how it started.

[00:04:34] But there you go. Something to look forward to the day after Christmas. Christmas doesn't have to be over. You can dive into some candy canes on the 26th, something to do for you. So if I put hamburgers on the tree, I could eat them on the 26th.

[00:04:44] I think you can eat them whenever you want. I don't know who's waiting. Whenever a candy cane is on my tree, it just makes me want it so I just take it. It's just gone. It doesn't make it to the 26th.

[00:04:53] I haven't had a candy cane all year. I heard about these dill pickle candy canes and I really wanted to try it. I hate that. That sounds funny. I hate that. I've got a joke for you. Give it to me. What do you call a snowman party?

[00:05:06] Oh boy. A flurry. A flurry? I don't know. A snowball. Waka waka. Oh boy. The street candy folks. The joke sound for Christmas Eve. What can you do? It's time for the countdown. One day until Christmas. Wow. You think anybody's listening and they're like, What? One. The day.

[00:05:39] Ah crap. One day. Pretty great. It's tomorrow. You still got time. It's the last day for our advent calendar. Well, now because I blew it at the beginning here, I already know what number one is. It is just clearly the best one too. That's the thing.

[00:05:55] It is Santa. Santa Superman. Full, full Santa suits. But he's ripping open his suit jacket a little bit to show that he still has a Superman shirt on. It's a great one. Mm-hmm. I love it. Well, that concludes our advent calendar, Bran.

[00:06:12] And I'm a little bit bummed because that was so much fun. I wish I had bought 12 advent calendars and we could just done this throughout the year or something, which is not a bad idea. I bet you can find some on sale. Yeah.

[00:06:23] I do think that Superman is probably the most represented in this. Maybe Batman? I don't know. Hard to say, but I really enjoyed it. Thank you, Beth Ann Smith McGraw. I really, really appreciate you doing this for us.

[00:06:35] It has been so much fun to open these with Bran and I'm very excited about the year and it was really, really generous of you to send us both an advent calendar and a very thoughtful. So thank you. Absolutely. Guys, it's time for the news.

[00:06:58] Today is December 24th. Here's the news. This is a big day for us. The fact that we... This is going to be our third year getting the interview Santa on Christmas Eve is kind of overwhelming. We're trying to dial them in right now.

[00:07:15] We'll try to get this up. Bran, I'm hearing that we've got a connection to Santa. Okay. All right. Let's go. Santa, can you hear us? Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho. Hello, Santa. Hello, Bran and Scott. Merry Christmas, buddy.

[00:07:31] It's good to hear you again. Merry Christmas. Oh, it's great to be heard, not seen because you can't. Okay. Where are you right now? Are you flying your sleigh? This is an audio only. It's not a FaceTime. I am flying my sleigh.

[00:07:46] I'm having a great time making great speed, record speed. In fact, Scotty, in fact, in Scotty, in fact, in Scot... Uh-oh, I'm getting caught in a little bit of a loop there. My bad. Hey, do you have to watch out for airliners and stuff when you're flying?

[00:07:59] Absolutely, I do. I feel like it should be clear by now that if you see a man in the sleigh and you try to swerve around, I don't know why I have to do all the work, but what can you do?

[00:08:09] Do you add anti-collision lights to your sleigh or your reindeer or anything? Like, how do you handle that? Have you heard about Rudolph? Have you heard about him? I heard something about him. He's got a nose, right? He's got a nose, Scot. It's red. That's all you need?

[00:08:23] That's good enough? If you see red in the air on Christmas Eve, swerve. I feel like you should really have a transponder in your sleigh so you can let air traffic control know where you are. Transponder, transquamber. I'm not in the old school like that.

[00:08:41] I'm old school Scotty, you should know that. I'm driven by reindeer. How many presents have you delivered so far? Uh, carat wine, uh, uh, somewhere around 50,000? That seems a little low, Santa. Are you behind? You're a little low. I don't know, man.

[00:09:01] Okay, well, I mean, the Google Santa Tracker says you're up to millions and millions by this point. Millions? Yes, absolutely. Oh, you were just talking about the current leg of your trip. Yeah, oh yeah, you know how it goes. Okay, I'm sorry. I was very confusing.

[00:09:16] I really should strive to be a better interviewer. I do apologize. Santa, hey, it's brand here. I'm a little starstruck, um, pretty usual, but would you mind giving us, uh, just an update on how the reindeer are doing? Has the morale? Absolutely, brand.

[00:09:29] By the way, you sound handsome AF. Um, yeah, the reindeer, they're doing well. Ultimately what it comes down to is they work one day a year. Uh, if you can't get off for one day a year, I don't know what to tell you.

[00:09:43] These reindeer are the best of the best. No other reindeer can do what they do. Shout out to the deer in the rain, the reindeer. Hey, Santa, I suggested to Larry that they feed the reindeer a diet of beefaroni. How is that working out?

[00:09:56] The beefaroni's been a mistake, Scott. It's been a mistake. It became a mistake pretty early on in the fight. Gotta be honest with you. Did you have to stop in a car wash or anything? Let's just say, uh, the elves have their work cut out for

[00:10:12] them when I land. I'll tell you that much. And your dry cleaner, right? Oh, absolutely. If anybody has a little, uh, something extra on their present tomorrow morning, uh, I do apologize. I'll leave some febrize out with the sandwich.

[00:10:28] What would you like me to leave you tonight, Santa? Cookies! Don't you get tired of cookies? Isn't there something else? No. Why try to change it? Has anyone left you a lasagna? Oh. Cause that sounds good, doesn't it? Actually, I don't hate that. Okay.

[00:10:42] Everybody, let's hook a brother up with some lasagna. Okay? Let's do this thing. I'm taking notes right here and, uh, do you want spicy sausage? I don't know what else to tell you, man. It's been a tough night. Can't add any spicy sausage to the mix.

[00:10:57] I already got my hands full with the reindeer. I don't need anything to myself. Extra garlic bread? What do you think? God, it's almost like you're not listening, bud. It sounds like you're not trying. Okay, so just Gatorade? Is that all you need?

[00:11:10] Maybe some Pedialyte for the reindeer? Yeah. Yeah, that'll do. Thank you, Scotty. Thank you so much. Guys, I gotta go. I gotta go. Well, like, wait, wait, wait, wait, before you go, is there anything you want to, you know, let people know?

[00:11:23] Anything they should be aware of before, before they are, you arrive at their house? I mean, if you want to, like, help a brother out and put out the fires, I can work around it. It isn't ordeal. It does make my night longer.

[00:11:37] So let's do what you want to, but please, for the love of God, put out your fires, your weirdos, it's dangerous. Okay, we will absolutely do that. Santa, it was so great to hear from you. Good luck on the rest of your trip tonight.

[00:11:49] Love you guys, big fan. I still haven't left a review. Just kind of holding out for being number 500 or something like that, but big fan. Yeah, that should happen by 2030 at this rate. Also, the Mrs. Claus updates you guys have been having this season.

[00:12:04] Boy, howdy, does that get me hot? Whoa, whoa, this is a family show, Santa. We're losing, we're losing Santa. The connection, he's driving through a tunnel. He's got to go. Sheesh, I will say with the amount of work he's doing, I imagine he'd get a little weird.

[00:12:20] It gets a little weird out there, everybody. Hey, good to hear from him though. It's great to hear from him. Let's take a quick break, we'll come back with the TV listings in the Christmas music battle here on Christmas morning. Welcome back everybody. Christmas TV.

[00:12:38] I mean, I could think of a certain movie that you might be able to watch tonight. Yeah. Over and over and over again, but let's see if there's anything else. TV Scotty, take it away buddy. Here are your Christmas TV specials for the next two days,

[00:17:08] But it's a good problem to have, Scotty. It's a good problem to have. Yeah, your DVR is pretty much worn out at this point. Absolutely. It's time for the Christmas music battle. Santa Claus is coming to town tonight. He's already on his way, so why not use that

[00:17:21] as inspiration for today's battle? Santa Claus is coming to town. Two versions from Bandcamp. What can you do with this classic song? Let's find out. The first is a version by Town by the Dops. No, no, no. Santa Claus is coming to town by the Dops.

[00:17:38] We're getting late in the season, folks. Here we go. Channeling a little Ramones there, I think. Absolutely. That was nice. That was real nice. Up next, we got Santa Claus is coming to town by Animans with a Z at the end. This is where you'll be sleeping.

[00:19:16] Santa Claus is coming to town. This is when you've been sleeping. Oh, it's when you're away. He knows you'll be battle girl, so be good. Fuckin' and safe. A classic Christmas song if I've ever heard one. Perfect for Christmas Eve, sitting around the fire. Absolutely.

[00:19:45] If those whirly gurgly sounds don't get you in the Christmas spirit, I don't know what will. That sounds like Santa's reindeer. I will say an original version of that song if I've ever heard one. Yes, absolutely. Totally unique. Like nothing we've played before. So that was fun.

[00:20:02] Classic Animans. If you know Animans, that's just part of the course. Just what you expect. Exactly. Merry Christmas, everybody. Enjoy the rest of Christmas Eve with your family. We will be back tomorrow with a short episode wishing you all a Merry Christmas. Until then, Merry Christmas. Eve.
