[00:00:00] Hi, I'm Bran and I love OWN Christmas movies.
[00:00:07] I'm Dan and I despise OWN Christmas movies.
[00:00:11] I'm Alonzo and maybe we should spell OWN with a P and this is the-
[00:00:15] This is Deck The Hallmark Podcast!
[00:00:17] Deck The Hallmark, it's this podcast.
[00:00:20] Fa la la la la la la la.
[00:00:22] Brandon and Friends host this podcast.
[00:00:25] Fa la la la la la la la.
[00:00:27] We hope you like this, Dolly Podcast Fa la la la la la la la.
[00:00:35] Well hello everybody.
[00:00:37] Another week is here.
[00:00:39] The good news is and I know this matters to you.
[00:00:42] Monday, Monday, Monday!
[00:00:43] I know this matters to you a little bit.
[00:00:44] A lot, yes.
[00:00:45] But I know that this matters a lot to me and Alonzo.
[00:00:47] We're one week closer to Christmas.
[00:00:49] So...
[00:00:50] Guys it's April.
[00:00:52] We're not close to Christmas.
[00:00:56] I didn't say that.
[00:00:57] We're close.
[00:00:58] I didn't say that.
[00:00:59] Black period between Easter and Halloween.
[00:01:00] Give us something.
[00:01:01] I gave you these ad-
[00:01:02] Jokers the break when it comes to Bramble Fest.
[00:01:05] I don't make any jokes.
[00:01:06] It's all fair game.
[00:01:08] But never once did I say that we're close.
[00:01:10] And we're releasing Bramble Fest tickets.
[00:01:12] Are we doing that?
[00:01:13] In April, we decided on a date.
[00:01:14] I know we did.
[00:01:15] One, I said we're one week closer.
[00:01:18] Yes, I know.
[00:01:19] That's always true though, Brandon.
[00:01:21] Every day but the week of Christmas, that is true.
[00:01:24] Yes.
[00:01:25] So to say it now is ridiculous.
[00:01:28] It's better to think about how far from Christmas we are.
[00:01:32] Better to think about how close to Christmas we are.
[00:01:35] Closer to where you were than where you're going.
[00:01:38] I'm close.
[00:01:39] Sometimes folks like Alonzo and myself, all we need is a reminder that there is a Christmas.
[00:01:47] You need a little Christmas right this very minute.
[00:01:49] There is a Christmas.
[00:01:50] Maybe you need a weekly podcast about this very thing.
[00:01:55] You could call it Christmas morning.
[00:01:57] Let me have a Christmas.
[00:01:59] There would be TV listings and song battles.
[00:02:01] Christmas morning podcast.
[00:02:02] They would know TV shows regularly.
[00:02:04] That's right.
[00:02:05] Mary Tyler Moore wrote it.
[00:02:07] I knew Mary Tyler Moore didn't know wrote it.
[00:02:09] Oh my gosh.
[00:02:10] I'm sorry.
[00:02:12] Oh, I forgot you know everything.
[00:02:14] I forgot.
[00:02:15] Dan knows everything.
[00:02:17] Daniel, if you don't think I'm fire up the chat group with Brandon Scott every time they pull one of those.
[00:02:23] Trust me.
[00:02:24] I'm on the case.
[00:02:25] You listen to the Lifetime Game Show, Palooza, first annual and you know what it's like now.
[00:02:31] And had notes and most of the notes, most of the notes fair more than fair.
[00:02:36] And I couldn't believe you know, Barbara or Diane Weist.
[00:02:41] Diane Weist.
[00:02:42] Two Oscars.
[00:02:43] Two Oscars.
[00:02:44] Two Oscars.
[00:02:45] I didn't know who she was and I was read the right act rightfully so.
[00:02:49] But you did mention if we ever want to do a Hallmark movie quiz Palooza, Game Show Palooza or whatever.
[00:02:57] Oh, I'm down.
[00:02:58] I already came up with Baker Bookstore owner or party planner.
[00:03:03] It's great.
[00:03:04] It's great.
[00:03:05] It's coming.
[00:03:06] It's coming.
[00:03:07] Just wait everybody.
[00:03:08] I think about the crack games.
[00:03:09] I think we're on our way at the very least.
[00:03:12] There is a like, I wouldn't call it a crack yet.
[00:03:15] I'd call it like a Fisher hairline hairline fracture in games.
[00:03:20] A dimple.
[00:03:21] Let me ask you this.
[00:03:23] I think people judging by the title of the movie today Christmas of Yes can figure
[00:03:28] out what's going to happen.
[00:03:30] Yeah.
[00:03:31] Alonso if you were given this challenge to say yes to everything during the holiday
[00:03:37] season, do you think you could do it?
[00:03:40] I don't know.
[00:03:41] There's much that I already say no to.
[00:03:43] I mean, go look at how many podcasts I do during the holiday season.
[00:03:48] It's like, I don't say no a lot frankly and I should probably do it for said it though.
[00:03:52] I'd be like, Hey Alonso, we're doing a Christmas with a cranks marathon.
[00:03:55] Can you join?
[00:03:56] I would immediately think it's a very exploitable find out.
[00:04:00] Yeah, you can't tell them.
[00:04:02] You can't tell them exactly that would I think really, really spoil it.
[00:04:07] But yeah, I think if you kept it on the hush, I don't.
[00:04:11] I'm pretty open to things when it comes to like especially during the Yule tide season.
[00:04:18] You already have the Christmas spirit.
[00:04:19] You never have to take this challenge.
[00:04:21] It's true.
[00:04:22] Yeah.
[00:04:23] Either is that.
[00:04:24] Yeah.
[00:04:25] Daniel might have to.
[00:04:26] I could do it as long as no one if anyone found out I would be in really I would
[00:04:30] be in over my head in a hurry.
[00:04:32] If no one knew, I think I could do it.
[00:04:34] Yeah.
[00:04:35] I think the thing with me though is, is I always want to be invited just so that I can
[00:04:39] say no.
[00:04:40] I don't really want to like leave my house.
[00:04:42] No.
[00:04:43] Yeah.
[00:04:44] And so secret introvert.
[00:04:45] I don't want to really be around people or places or things.
[00:04:49] And so I don't like and I don't like doing new things.
[00:04:53] You got to stay home to stream rota.
[00:04:55] That's exactly right.
[00:04:57] Now that I have finished the floor, the game show, the floor that I benched.
[00:05:03] I think I might be the only person in the world to bring to the game show like
[00:05:06] any other person gives a single.
[00:05:08] I'm trying to find one person.
[00:05:11] I don't know what this is.
[00:05:12] It's a game show.
[00:05:14] It's stupid.
[00:05:15] He said the other night, I just needed something mindless to watch and I
[00:05:19] found this show called the floor.
[00:05:21] I thought he was just cruising through channels and caught 30 minutes of
[00:05:25] a game and then I found out later it was on net.
[00:05:27] He was watching a game show on net.
[00:05:29] It was on Hulu Hulu and he watched four straight episodes.
[00:05:32] Wow.
[00:05:33] That's a whole movie and I want everyone to know another bit of information
[00:05:38] another bit of information that I have withheld is I turned on the floor
[00:05:43] after watching three trailers for Academy Award nominees and and I was
[00:05:49] not in the mood tonight.
[00:05:51] Not in the mood for anatomy of a fall.
[00:05:53] I don't I'm not in the mood.
[00:05:55] Look, why do you think Netflix signed the deal with Adam Sandler?
[00:05:58] People go home at the end of a long work day.
[00:06:01] They're on the couch and yeah, the choices are anatomy of a fall or
[00:06:06] Halloween.
[00:06:08] Give me Halloween.
[00:06:10] Give me Halloween.
[00:06:11] I can't my brain is not.
[00:06:14] It's so weird that those in your brain are the two choices like
[00:06:17] that's like a lot that's a straw man.
[00:06:20] It's like do you want to watch zone of interest?
[00:06:22] Yeah, that's one of the trailers I watched.
[00:06:26] Or do you want to watch the second murder mystery with those are
[00:06:31] not the only two choices out there like there are more.
[00:06:33] I love the Adam Sandler Jennifer Anderson murder mystery.
[00:06:36] I love them.
[00:06:38] I mean, and I love to be Halloween.
[00:06:41] Look, I get it.
[00:06:43] I just spies Adam Sandler and his works unless he's working
[00:06:46] with a competent filmmaker.
[00:06:48] But like early in the evening, Dave and I will either like
[00:06:51] we'll watch something for OK TV or maybe like a screener of
[00:06:54] the day.
[00:06:55] We have to review or talk about but after about like 839 my brain
[00:06:59] is just not ready to take in anything on the criteria.
[00:07:02] And so yeah, exactly.
[00:07:04] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:07:06] And so like I'll pop over to peacock and watch a burger she
[00:07:09] wrote or something you know, just like can't the at some
[00:07:12] point you the mind has to how does it feel that his
[00:07:15] mindless Alonzo's mindless entertainment would be your
[00:07:18] homework?
[00:07:19] You know, I get it's more than fair.
[00:07:22] I think that honestly describes Alonzo right to a T.
[00:07:26] And look, real talk.
[00:07:28] I am a homework movies now subscriber and some nights I
[00:07:32] just throw on Christmas joy and veg out like you know,
[00:07:36] cookie crawl.
[00:07:37] I've been known to put on our Christmas movie in the
[00:07:39] middle of the year at night just for funsies.
[00:07:42] I won't even rewatch my favorite TV shows.
[00:07:44] I will just say this while we're talking while we're
[00:07:46] talking about homework Christmas movies.
[00:07:48] That's that.
[00:07:49] That's what makes the the file unlimited DVR.
[00:07:52] It's unbelievable really great for us because we already
[00:07:54] have to save all of them and so they're just there.
[00:07:57] They're there.
[00:07:58] You know Christmas had built more there.
[00:07:59] There.
[00:08:00] Roundabout there.
[00:08:01] And I don't even so anytime I'm feeling one of those
[00:08:03] I open up the old file app and I just scroll into my
[00:08:06] heart easy.
[00:08:07] Mark Harts content.
[00:08:08] So that's pretty great.
[00:08:09] Christmas of yes, are we ready to talk about?
[00:08:11] Let's do it.
[00:08:12] Sure.
[00:08:13] It originally aired on own the Oprah Winfrey
[00:08:16] Network on December 9th, 2023 and it went a little
[00:08:20] something like this.
[00:08:21] The movie kicks off with a woman making a very
[00:08:25] special cup of coffee and you might be wondering
[00:08:28] to yourself self is there a movie out there that
[00:08:32] is 80% coffee?
[00:08:35] Yes.
[00:08:36] This movie is 80% coffee.
[00:08:39] It's Amy and it appears that she's trying to
[00:08:43] perfect the perfect festive cup of coffee and
[00:08:48] a perfect Christmas coffee.
[00:08:50] Is it her job though?
[00:08:52] No, coffee is not her job.
[00:08:54] It is her hobby despite it being something that she
[00:08:57] loves.
[00:08:58] She works for Bizworthy and has quickly been
[00:09:02] rising in the company.
[00:09:05] She's now doing really well and she's excited
[00:09:08] because they're working on an acquisition and
[00:09:11] that could mean even more potential, you know,
[00:09:15] raising.
[00:09:17] What is it called?
[00:09:18] A promotion.
[00:09:19] A merger.
[00:09:20] More potential promotions for her.
[00:09:23] Raisings if you will.
[00:09:25] But after it gets acquired she comes in and she
[00:09:32] finds out that they are getting rid of her
[00:09:36] position of chief marketing officer.
[00:09:41] That's right.
[00:09:42] CMO.
[00:09:43] You don't need one of those during a merger.
[00:09:45] They have three people that are going to do her job.
[00:09:48] Of course they have their own CMO.
[00:09:50] I'm sure they do.
[00:09:51] She can see her way out.
[00:09:52] That's right.
[00:09:53] Three children in a trench coat are going to be
[00:09:56] the new CMO.
[00:09:57] It's Muppet Man.
[00:09:58] She's bummed but she whispers to herself,
[00:10:01] you'll be fine.
[00:10:03] She's not.
[00:10:04] She hits the bottle fast and hard.
[00:10:07] She thought that she was going to be the CEO of
[00:10:10] Bizworthy one day and now she's got nothing
[00:10:13] and no one hires at the end of the year
[00:10:15] and so what is she to do?
[00:10:17] There's nothing she can really do until the
[00:10:19] new year.
[00:10:20] So she's talking to her brother and his husband
[00:10:24] about how nothing exciting happens to her
[00:10:28] unlike to them and they're like,
[00:10:30] well you know why that is.
[00:10:31] We say yes to everything.
[00:10:33] She's like, what do you mean you say yes to
[00:10:35] everything?
[00:10:36] Like anytime an opportunity presents itself
[00:10:39] we say yes.
[00:10:40] In fact, I think maybe you should try that.
[00:10:44] Maybe you should try saying yes to
[00:10:46] everything this holiday season since
[00:10:48] you got nothing else going on and
[00:10:51] after some pushing and some drinking
[00:10:53] she agrees to say yes to Christmas.
[00:10:57] Make it the Christmas of yes.
[00:11:00] And they immediately invite her to,
[00:11:04] I think everyone's worst nightmare,
[00:11:06] free improv.
[00:11:07] It is a free improv show and she wants
[00:11:10] to say no we all do but she can't.
[00:11:12] She ends up going being invited on stage.
[00:11:15] She can't say no to that and they
[00:11:18] they're gonna play a game called Ding Dong
[00:11:21] where they act out her day and if
[00:11:24] they say something or do something that
[00:11:26] didn't actually happen you say
[00:11:28] Dong and if they do something right you
[00:11:30] say Ding.
[00:11:31] That's exactly right, Ding Dong.
[00:11:33] And Nico, what the improv guy is very
[00:11:36] annoyed because she's a bit of a buzz
[00:11:39] kill.
[00:11:40] One, they gotta act out someone getting
[00:11:42] fired.
[00:11:43] And two, she keeps dongin' stuff and
[00:11:45] you can't do that.
[00:11:46] So after the show, Nico approaches
[00:11:51] her outside and was like hey thanks
[00:11:53] for being a total buzz kill up there
[00:11:55] and she's like you're not even
[00:11:56] funny.
[00:11:57] The tension is hot, it is heavy and
[00:12:00] seeing this tension one of the other
[00:12:02] improvisers invites her to come help with
[00:12:06] the improv toy drive.
[00:12:08] Now this is not a, it's a fundraiser.
[00:12:11] It's not, it's a real toy drive that
[00:12:14] the improv puts on.
[00:12:16] So she can't say no to that.
[00:12:18] She says yes and she ends up going
[00:12:21] into doing a bit of a rapping competition
[00:12:23] with Nico and afterwards she lets
[00:12:26] and try the coffee.
[00:12:28] And he says this is the second best cup
[00:12:31] of coffee I ever had behind that random
[00:12:33] drip coffee I had in Brooklyn one time.
[00:12:36] She says challenge accepted, I gotta
[00:12:38] become number one.
[00:12:39] After talkin' a bit more she agrees
[00:12:41] to roast some coffee and sell out
[00:12:43] a fundraiser for students to learn
[00:12:46] and stuff and get a computer I guess.
[00:12:48] They go out to dinner to talk about
[00:12:50] the fundraiser and while talking it
[00:12:52] becomes abundantly clear that he
[00:12:54] doesn't know how to plan anything.
[00:12:56] She does so she says I'm gonna help,
[00:12:58] I'm gonna take on this project.
[00:13:00] I'm gonna help plan the fundraiser.
[00:13:02] She then also opens up about how she hasn't
[00:13:04] had a Christmas tree in a few years because
[00:13:06] of how busy she's been at work.
[00:13:08] So he convinces her to sneak into a
[00:13:10] close Christmas tree lot to steal
[00:13:12] a tree but after getting the tree
[00:13:14] over the fence he's like oh but it's
[00:13:16] my uncle's Christmas tree lot we're all
[00:13:18] ready to go here and he even has keys to the gate.
[00:13:20] So it was a big fun haha. The next day
[00:13:22] there's a knock at the door
[00:13:24] and so answer.
[00:13:26] It's her mom
[00:13:28] and in a storyline
[00:13:30] that I felt like started too late
[00:13:32] they begin to talk
[00:13:34] and we find out that they have a strange
[00:13:36] relationship due to mom becoming a bit of
[00:13:38] an alcoholic
[00:13:40] after dad died and so
[00:13:42] she tells her though she's doing very well
[00:13:44] now, Amy's not sure, she's heard this
[00:13:46] before.
[00:13:48] Later she invites
[00:13:50] Nico over to try some coffee
[00:13:52] that she's been working on and he encourages her to
[00:13:54] open up a coffee shop and he's like
[00:13:56] no that's not a part of the plan.
[00:13:58] I will however sell
[00:14:00] some coffee for the fundraiser
[00:14:02] and we'll see how it goes
[00:14:04] we'll see how the sales go.
[00:14:06] Things are going well
[00:14:08] between them. She's enjoying saying yes
[00:14:10] actually, she's enjoying Nico
[00:14:12] and she even makes him
[00:14:14] his own special coffee which becomes
[00:14:16] the best cup of coffee he's ever had.
[00:14:18] Number one. Then he gives her a gift
[00:14:20] a little early gift
[00:14:22] it is business cards for her coffee company
[00:14:24] because she gets a call first
[00:14:26] from her boss. That's right
[00:14:28] but they are
[00:14:30] Carpe coffee business cards
[00:14:32] but she gets a call
[00:14:34] from her old job
[00:14:36] they want her to come back
[00:14:38] the three
[00:14:40] Muppets that couldn't handle
[00:14:42] get your old job back
[00:14:44] and so she tells Nico
[00:14:46] hey I can't do this anymore
[00:14:48] I know I said I would do all of this
[00:14:50] I can't do any of it, I gotta go back
[00:14:52] and he's very upset about this
[00:14:54] and he's like I don't even think you want to do this
[00:14:56] I think you want to coffee
[00:14:58] and she's like you don't get what it's like
[00:15:00] to have plans to have goals
[00:15:02] to try to do things
[00:15:04] I wanna be a CEO
[00:15:06] I don't wanna be a coffee person
[00:15:08] I'm gonna accomplish my goals because I have a plan
[00:15:10] I'm like you
[00:15:12] and I only did any of this
[00:15:14] because my brother's dumb challenge
[00:15:16] well he's like what do you mean by that
[00:15:18] explains to Christmas of yes
[00:15:20] so this is all like
[00:15:22] none of this was real
[00:15:24] it was only because you had to say yes
[00:15:26] she's like it's not like that
[00:15:28] she walks back in the office
[00:15:30] gets right to work
[00:15:32] there's a lot of work to be had
[00:15:34] she's working late
[00:15:36] she's not very happy
[00:15:38] if she looks down and she sees
[00:15:40] the Carpe Coffee business cards
[00:15:42] and she says you know what
[00:15:44] I quit
[00:15:46] I'm gonna be my own CEO
[00:15:48] of my own coffee company
[00:15:50] and her boss is like
[00:15:52] I don't know man
[00:15:54] she goes to try to talk to Niko
[00:15:56] to make things right but the Christmas Eve
[00:15:58] improv show is sold out
[00:16:00] and so she tries to
[00:16:02] get him to talk he doesn't want to
[00:16:04] so she sneaks in
[00:16:06] and she wants to come on stage to play
[00:16:08] you guessed it ding dong
[00:16:10] not as many dongs this time
[00:16:12] not as many dongs
[00:16:14] she tells him that she quit her job
[00:16:16] is gonna own her own business
[00:16:18] and wants to tell a guy
[00:16:20] that she really really likes him
[00:16:22] and he's like what
[00:16:24] ding ding ding yes
[00:16:26] they make up
[00:16:28] they kiss big ones
[00:16:30] it has been Christmas morning
[00:16:32] mom is there because she's doing great
[00:16:34] and now my friends was
[00:16:36] Christmas of yes
[00:16:38] we
[00:16:40] did it
[00:16:42] we did do it congratulations
[00:16:44] we're gonna take a quick break
[00:16:46] we're gonna break this movie down here on
[00:16:48] Deck the Hallmark
[00:16:58] welcome back to coffee coffee coffee
[00:17:00] the show where we talk about coffee
[00:17:02] between we're breaking down Christmas
[00:17:04] of yes
[00:17:06] we're gonna start with a hot take
[00:17:08] we're gonna share exactly how we felt about this movie
[00:17:10] and I'm gonna start with my friend Alonzo Alonzo
[00:17:12] what'd you think of owns
[00:17:14] 2023 Christmas movie Christmas of yes
[00:17:18] so
[00:17:20] in the last couple of weeks we've seen some really
[00:17:22] bonkers
[00:17:24] low budget like just
[00:17:26] plot threads making
[00:17:28] no sense and
[00:17:30] weird camera angles and stuff
[00:17:32] and I'm starting to
[00:17:34] miss those movies
[00:17:36] because this one is
[00:17:38] professionally done
[00:17:40] you know it has a
[00:17:42] a sheen of competency to it
[00:17:44] and it is so boring
[00:17:46] like it is so
[00:17:48] by the numbers
[00:17:50] bland every room
[00:17:52] looks like a model home
[00:17:54] none of the characters feel like
[00:17:56] flesh and blood
[00:17:58] people with real concerns
[00:18:00] it's so by the numbers
[00:18:04] yeah I just was
[00:18:06] kind of craving a weird camera
[00:18:08] on the floor angle
[00:18:10] or a
[00:18:12] poop to the prom story
[00:18:14] anything you know just to kind of liven it up
[00:18:16] so yeah
[00:18:18] this is
[00:18:20] it you know as the kids
[00:18:22] say it understands the assignment but
[00:18:24] it does not do anything extra
[00:18:26] beyond that
[00:18:28] um so I like this movie quite
[00:18:30] a bit actually I
[00:18:32] wasn't bored by it I thought
[00:18:34] the two leads worked well together
[00:18:36] I love coffee so this movie
[00:18:38] was kind of like perfect for me
[00:18:40] I uh if
[00:18:42] the question is would I rather
[00:18:44] if I had to choose between
[00:18:46] pooping on the floor story or
[00:18:48] this movie I picked the pooping
[00:18:50] on the floor
[00:18:52] but I like I did not
[00:18:54] I wasn't bored
[00:18:56] I quite enjoyed it it gave me
[00:18:58] a scosh of Christmas spirit not
[00:19:00] overwhelming enough a scosh
[00:19:02] proper for April I think
[00:19:04] an April day and yeah
[00:19:06] I don't know I thought it was nice
[00:19:08] I thought it was nice
[00:19:10] dana uh Alonzo is going to be grumpy
[00:19:12] Alonzo on this one
[00:19:14] I'm not here to tell you this movie's great
[00:19:16] um but this movie
[00:19:18] sets up
[00:19:20] a plot like Jim Carrey's
[00:19:22] Yes Man and
[00:19:24] ostensibly well
[00:19:26] abruptly leaves the that plot
[00:19:28] for ostensibly a better movie
[00:19:30] it it sets up this thing
[00:19:32] where she's supposed to say yes
[00:19:34] and after 30 minutes of that movie
[00:19:36] which is weird wacky
[00:19:38] totally all over the place boring
[00:19:40] it it just
[00:19:42] gets side-swiped
[00:19:44] by a movie where you're dealing
[00:19:46] with addiction and
[00:19:48] her bringing family members
[00:19:50] back into the the fray
[00:19:52] adoption storylines
[00:19:54] like what is my life really
[00:19:56] like an existential crisis
[00:19:58] like all of these things
[00:20:00] in the last
[00:20:02] 50 minutes the movie seemed really rush
[00:20:04] and jammed in there but I wasn't bored
[00:20:06] I wasn't bored
[00:20:08] the coffee aspect of it actually
[00:20:10] was interesting to me because I thought
[00:20:12] when she said she roasted her own beans I was like
[00:20:14] oh dear god this is the worst plotline
[00:20:16] of all time but then we go into
[00:20:18] like this is her
[00:20:20] alcoholism like this is her
[00:20:22] thing that she's doing
[00:20:24] to cope with her trauma
[00:20:26] and I actually thought
[00:20:28] all the characters in this movie
[00:20:30] acted as though they would act in real life
[00:20:32] I thought there was a
[00:20:34] they did a really good job of not pushing a love story
[00:20:36] that they're not declaring that they
[00:20:38] love each other they're just saying
[00:20:40] that they like each other I thought
[00:20:42] that there are several chances where
[00:20:44] women in power in this movie have a chance
[00:20:46] to be like vindictive or backbiting
[00:20:48] and they're not like the boss
[00:20:50] I thought for sure she was going to be
[00:20:52] good luck with that coffee business but she's like
[00:20:54] I know I just rehired you back
[00:20:56] but really good luck
[00:20:58] you're going to succeed in anything to do. And ends up being your first client
[00:21:00] and so like
[00:21:02] for me it is not going to win
[00:21:04] any awards but
[00:21:06] how they tackle some
[00:21:08] emotional heft and how they
[00:21:10] tackle how people deal
[00:21:12] with big trauma in their life
[00:21:14] is really really good so
[00:21:16] yeah I'm higher on it than
[00:21:18] all grumpy a
[00:21:20] this is our
[00:21:22] Scottish Christmas movie from last year that you
[00:21:24] adored and we were like what are you talking about
[00:21:26] I think we found it
[00:21:28] April 8th
[00:21:30] 2024 the day that we broke
[00:21:32] Daniel
[00:21:34] to be fair I watched this movie
[00:21:36] don't do this at home kids I watch this
[00:21:38] movie in my truck mostly
[00:21:40] and I watched the first
[00:21:42] and I've got pages of wait what
[00:21:44] so maybe I pay attention better there
[00:21:46] I don't know there's a lot to unpack there
[00:21:48] I think that you do though because you
[00:21:50] occasionally not often
[00:21:52] not often but I will occasionally look
[00:21:54] over and you'll be doing something
[00:21:56] how dare you and I'm not saying
[00:21:58] I'm paying attention to just you're never
[00:22:00] occasionally and so
[00:22:02] I can't do it nearly as much though because I have to
[00:22:04] watch the first 30 or 40 minutes
[00:22:06] and then right after the improv
[00:22:08] scene had to stop it and then watch the next
[00:22:10] 30 40 minutes and it felt
[00:22:12] like too very different like
[00:22:14] she stops doing any of the yes
[00:22:16] bit in this movie
[00:22:18] literally and then they bring it up at the end
[00:22:20] like once she finds the dude and they get the Christmas
[00:22:22] tree there's no more yeses
[00:22:24] there's no more like I don't want I want to say no but
[00:22:26] it's a yes for me I think
[00:22:28] she says yes to throwing the Christmas
[00:22:30] party I think that's the last one yeah it's
[00:22:32] and so that from that
[00:22:34] perspective it doesn't hold up but like the way
[00:22:36] they handle these big themes I really like
[00:22:38] the movie all grumpy a all grumpy
[00:22:40] a out there he's just he's out there
[00:22:42] just a west
[00:22:44] coast liberal elite
[00:22:46] just can't get in the Christmas spirit
[00:22:48] in April is all
[00:22:50] me no no
[00:22:52] no no Dan Alonzo
[00:22:54] hated it Dan is not putting a stamp
[00:22:56] on this one because if you go watch it you're not
[00:22:58] it's not going to it's not to the
[00:23:00] level of like a built more he liked it more than
[00:23:02] Bill more he said it here first gosh
[00:23:04] we're gonna have we're gonna have a discussion
[00:23:06] when we get to the weight what
[00:23:08] my weight what's for as long as they've been
[00:23:10] for a Monday movie all year long like
[00:23:12] there's so many
[00:23:14] but I will get to the field
[00:23:16] you watch built more in your truck it's gonna blow
[00:23:18] your mind
[00:23:20] you guys this is
[00:23:22] crazy
[00:23:24] it's time for all the fields we're talking about what this
[00:23:26] we gave us feels Alonzo anything stick out to you even
[00:23:28] though you hated this movie with a fiery
[00:23:30] passion
[00:23:32] I can't even get passionate about this movie that's part
[00:23:34] of the problem with it it just it's so
[00:23:36] bland for me
[00:23:38] I even
[00:23:40] I didn't particularly care for the lead
[00:23:42] couple I did like
[00:23:44] the fact that
[00:23:46] we know that the lead
[00:23:48] actress the character is getting
[00:23:50] less sort of
[00:23:52] repressed and held back
[00:23:54] and fussy and freer
[00:23:56] and more open to life by
[00:23:58] the collars of her shirts
[00:24:00] her tops early
[00:24:02] on she's really lazy
[00:24:04] frilly fussy just over
[00:24:06] done choking you know things
[00:24:08] on her blouses but as she
[00:24:10] loosens up you know she's more of a
[00:24:12] scoop neck it's you know
[00:24:14] I liked the story that was being
[00:24:16] told there and I like to Nika
[00:24:18] Davis as the
[00:24:20] sidekick improv woman
[00:24:22] who yeah was very charming
[00:24:24] and I would have liked to have seen a movie
[00:24:26] with her in the middle of it
[00:24:28] I loved at the end of this
[00:24:30] movie first of all I do want to
[00:24:32] say
[00:24:34] the way in it with coming back on
[00:24:36] stage and doing the
[00:24:38] I like that a lot
[00:24:40] what I loved even more than that is
[00:24:42] writing for a movie like this what I liked
[00:24:44] even more than that
[00:24:46] there is a guy in the crowds
[00:24:48] when the love declaration
[00:24:50] is happening who is just
[00:24:52] like pissed he's like
[00:24:54] I came for improv
[00:24:56] and everybody else
[00:24:58] in the crowd is kind of like this is fine
[00:25:00] but he's just like
[00:25:02] and I love that guy I thought
[00:25:04] that was fantastic and it made me
[00:25:06] laugh Dan I've got several I do
[00:25:08] love I got it got an audible chuckle
[00:25:10] for me when her
[00:25:12] brother and his husband
[00:25:14] convince her to say yes to everything she's like
[00:25:16] fine I'll do it and as soon as she says
[00:25:18] she'll do it they're like free improv show tonight
[00:25:20] like immediately
[00:25:22] which was just perfect the worst possible
[00:25:24] thing that is like word word
[00:25:26] word we're throwing you in the deep end
[00:25:28] immediately
[00:25:30] I love how much
[00:25:32] like the thing about this movie is is you
[00:25:34] hear that the family was beautiful and perfect
[00:25:36] and then the dad dies and the mom turns to alcohol
[00:25:38] and then
[00:25:40] she our lead she has turned
[00:25:42] to coffee I like
[00:25:44] I know that sounds crazy but in the beginning
[00:25:46] it seems like a hallmark movie it's like
[00:25:48] oh you make the best coffee but then
[00:25:50] you see she's got a roaster
[00:25:52] she's got all this stuff
[00:25:54] and it is clearly her addiction
[00:25:56] is perseverating
[00:25:58] perseverating on how to make the best cup of coffee
[00:26:00] to not give herself any time
[00:26:02] to think and process what has happened
[00:26:04] to her I think that's good writing
[00:26:06] I think that's good writing and I think it's really well done
[00:26:08] and I also like the fact that
[00:26:10] you know she
[00:26:12] clearly doesn't trust her mom anymore
[00:26:14] and they don't just have one scene
[00:26:16] where they hug it out and all is forgiven
[00:26:18] like mom comes over and she's like
[00:26:20] she doesn't say this this would have been
[00:26:22] I think nice to include in there but she's like
[00:26:24] I'm saying yes to everything right now
[00:26:26] I'm saying no to you still
[00:26:28] she literally
[00:26:30] in a month where she's supposed to say yes to everything
[00:26:32] she basically says no to her mom
[00:26:34] trying to be involved in her life
[00:26:36] and it takes
[00:26:38] three four conversations over the course of the movie
[00:26:40] for her to let her mom back in
[00:26:42] and give her mom another chance
[00:26:44] and rightfully so
[00:26:46] so I thought they did write by characters
[00:26:48] in that regard
[00:26:50] I'm gonna throw this in
[00:26:52] I don't quite agree with you on the whole
[00:26:54] Al-Anon coffee element of it but
[00:26:56] I will say that having a character
[00:26:58] who the thing that she's good at
[00:27:00] is coffee is kind of
[00:27:02] brilliant for one of these movies because
[00:27:04] we don't have to see her art
[00:27:06] that's true that's true
[00:27:08] photography yeah absolutely
[00:27:10] we're gonna take everyone's word for it
[00:27:12] that it tastes good and I want to
[00:27:14] on the Al-Anon
[00:27:16] thing the reason here's what
[00:27:18] for me I was watching this movie
[00:27:20] and I have a smoker at home and I'm not a professional smoker
[00:27:22] I just like to try stuff
[00:27:24] and I love the project of it
[00:27:26] and then when you finally early
[00:27:28] in the movie the coffee was a huge weight what to me
[00:27:30] I'm like who has time to roast their own coffee beans
[00:27:32] what workaholic has
[00:27:34] time to roast their own coffee beans
[00:27:36] and then as the movie progresses
[00:27:38] then you see her set up
[00:27:40] and she walks you through it
[00:27:42] and it's like I immediately was like
[00:27:44] I want to learn how to do this
[00:27:46] how to like I want to make
[00:27:48] I want to this is where I googled
[00:27:50] where do I get green coffee beans like immediately
[00:27:52] and then I saw what always
[00:27:54] involved and I was like maybe I don't want to do this
[00:27:56] but I appreciated the fact that
[00:27:58] she had let
[00:28:00] she clearly has latched on to this as
[00:28:02] more than a hobby
[00:28:04] as something that is
[00:28:06] you know a part of a part of process
[00:28:08] for her sure couple years ago I got a coffee
[00:28:10] roaster but it was too small and so
[00:28:12] the work that was needed to make it
[00:28:14] and for the amount of coffee you got was like
[00:28:16] it's just not worth it
[00:28:18] but I would love to see her machine
[00:28:20] you can do a brisket rub maybe with the roast
[00:28:22] to be a good movie isn't it
[00:28:24] stop selling stop selling
[00:28:26] let's take a quick break we'll come back with the weight what
[00:28:28] and oh no you didn't here on
[00:28:30] Deck the Hallmark
[00:28:40] we're talking about Christmas of
[00:28:42] the S 2023
[00:28:44] own a movie
[00:28:46] Oprah Winfrey seal of approval
[00:28:48] is on this movie
[00:28:50] could there possibly be any weight what
[00:28:52] let's find out Alonzo
[00:28:54] what you got
[00:28:56] okay so
[00:28:58] beginning the movie she gets fired
[00:29:00] from her job and is going to be
[00:29:02] you know can't even look for
[00:29:04] a job for weeks because at the end of the year no one's hiring
[00:29:06] what kind of nest egg
[00:29:08] does she have stored away
[00:29:10] that she picks this moment to
[00:29:12] donate a bunch of roasted coffee
[00:29:14] to a charity event
[00:29:16] like she
[00:29:18] I could not but like
[00:29:20] this was the ultimate
[00:29:22] you don't need a job movie
[00:29:24] it was the ultimate
[00:29:26] jobs are just like
[00:29:28] if you want one
[00:29:30] she had
[00:29:32] two years pay
[00:29:34] minimum in her bank
[00:29:36] she is acting as though
[00:29:38] she was something she did purely for the fun of it
[00:29:40] it is wild
[00:29:42] she was a C level executive
[00:29:44] she was chief marketing
[00:29:46] she had money
[00:29:48] you got to afford everything
[00:29:50] you do and monthly expenditures
[00:29:52] if you know you've got a couple months ahead
[00:29:54] of you with no paycheck coming
[00:29:56] maybe this is not the time to make a big
[00:29:58] double or triple down on your
[00:30:00] expenditures
[00:30:02] every time we lose a contract around here
[00:30:04] we go real hard on spending
[00:30:06] so the gaze put together
[00:30:08] a jigsaw puzzle and there's one piece
[00:30:10] missing and her brother
[00:30:12] digs into a box that has
[00:30:14] a whole bunch of other puzzle pieces in it
[00:30:16] and finds it
[00:30:18] which means that there are multiple
[00:30:20] puzzles all mixed together
[00:30:22] willy nilly in this box and somehow
[00:30:24] they've managed to put one puzzle
[00:30:26] together while putting all of the
[00:30:28] pieces of the other puzzle still
[00:30:30] in the box and it was giving me an anxiety
[00:30:32] attack yeah fair fair
[00:30:34] I don't want to be part of that
[00:30:36] I don't even want to talk about it anymore
[00:30:38] I appreciate the ambition
[00:30:40] of this movie wanting to work in
[00:30:42] alcoholic mom and that whole
[00:30:44] sort of subplot but man
[00:30:46] this does not have the cross beams
[00:30:48] to support
[00:30:50] anything that weighty so it's like
[00:30:52] I mean like you know
[00:30:54] A for effort but like you really
[00:30:56] it's not that movie
[00:30:58] the problem was the first 30
[00:31:00] they don't they don't introduce it
[00:31:02] until 30 40 minutes
[00:31:04] by the time you get that plot line
[00:31:06] the movie is trying to set itself up as a wacky
[00:31:08] Christmas comedy and that's the problem
[00:31:10] there's a movies
[00:31:12] and mysteries way you could do
[00:31:14] that and have that be in but it's like
[00:31:16] no wait now we're going here
[00:31:18] like it just so I couldn't
[00:31:20] for whatever it does right in that
[00:31:22] it had already lost me the idea that they were
[00:31:24] doing it at all so you know I would
[00:31:26] say you could take out the yes of this
[00:31:28] movie altogether and just I'm really upset
[00:31:30] and drunk so I went to an improv show
[00:31:32] and let the movie
[00:31:34] play out from there and not because
[00:31:36] I mean who hasn't
[00:31:38] we've all been
[00:31:40] good point though by the time she's at
[00:31:42] the terrible improv show she is
[00:31:44] stone cold sober and she's
[00:31:46] been drinking like JD out of the bottle
[00:31:48] so I did write that one down Alonzo
[00:31:50] she takes six shots of whiskey in
[00:31:52] seven minutes and her day is unchanged
[00:31:54] yeah I don't even know
[00:31:56] who has the Constitution for that I know
[00:31:58] no one who can go six shots
[00:32:00] of whiskey in seven minutes
[00:32:02] and go my day I'm gonna live the same
[00:32:04] day I would have before those six shots
[00:32:06] she is Karen Allen at the beginning of
[00:32:08] Raiders of the Lost Ark
[00:32:10] that is the person I will say that is
[00:32:12] the makeup of most people out of free
[00:32:14] improv show though
[00:32:16] there's no other reason for it to be like that
[00:32:18] she's not even you know she's doing great
[00:32:20] okay Daniel
[00:32:22] I cannot believe that you fell
[00:32:24] for the adoption
[00:32:26] subplot here no I don't know time out time out
[00:32:29] the adoption subplots not great
[00:32:31] what I said was is that the first
[00:32:33] 30 minutes of this movie promises
[00:32:35] wacky and then it just
[00:32:37] gets sideswiped by what is a better
[00:32:39] movie the adoption plotline
[00:32:41] you can absolutely kick rocks
[00:32:43] 100% go ahead here's
[00:32:45] the problem with the adoption plotline
[00:32:47] everything we have been introduced to the
[00:32:49] gaze as globe traitors
[00:32:51] who are never home always traveling
[00:32:53] they say they have no fixed address
[00:32:55] they're crashing with her
[00:32:57] yeah what adoption
[00:32:59] agency is looking at that and being like oh yes
[00:33:01] absolutely like you're you love to go on
[00:33:03] about how they want to come to your house
[00:33:05] and look at the outfits yeah
[00:33:07] no no no what the
[00:33:09] that was in mind the adoption
[00:33:11] plotline here is like
[00:33:13] unfortunately because we
[00:33:15] it's like the movie couldn't do both we are
[00:33:17] introduced to this movie through
[00:33:19] the lens of a same-sex couple and it's
[00:33:21] like all right they're really putting them forward
[00:33:23] what should we have them do now
[00:33:25] we've got it
[00:33:27] adopt a child in a
[00:33:29] 10-minute plot like it was
[00:33:31] really bad the thing is is people
[00:33:33] can't tell you you need bigger windows
[00:33:35] if you don't have any windows
[00:33:37] it's true so we got
[00:33:39] nothing on yeah I just
[00:33:41] yeah that is that that's
[00:33:43] the easily the worst part of this movie is the
[00:33:45] adoption storyline no questions asked
[00:33:47] and now I'm starting to wonder
[00:33:49] in the wake of
[00:33:51] the hallmarks movies where they're starting
[00:33:53] to dip a toe into this is
[00:33:55] it going to be a thing now where you can only have
[00:33:57] gay characters in a Christmas movie if
[00:33:59] they are skidding toward parents family
[00:34:01] like does that make them acceptable
[00:34:03] they can't just be two
[00:34:05] globetrotting twinks with like an unlimited
[00:34:07] expense account they have to like be
[00:34:09] changing diapers or else get out of here
[00:34:11] yeah it well the only thing
[00:34:13] I would say there you're 100% right
[00:34:15] it seems like they're gonna do that is
[00:34:17] but you don't get many movies
[00:34:19] with straight characters that are globetrotting
[00:34:21] with unlimited like most most everyone
[00:34:23] in hallmark movies tends to want
[00:34:25] to stay at home if they
[00:34:27] can so I guess that
[00:34:29] kind of fits the mold but also yeah you
[00:34:31] can't have every gay couple adopts
[00:34:33] it's just not something you can do
[00:34:35] some of us don't want children yeah
[00:34:37] it's crazy that's totally alright
[00:34:39] but what that's why the only
[00:34:41] was it was the Steve
[00:34:43] Steve Lunds Miss Christmas
[00:34:45] movie that the foster
[00:34:47] adoption storyline was the only one
[00:34:49] that I've been like this hits the way
[00:34:51] it should like this is the way this should
[00:34:53] go and how you how you go about
[00:34:55] that process with Mrs. Miracle
[00:34:57] that's what it is not Miss Christmas
[00:34:59] yeah Mrs. Miracle that's the one yeah
[00:35:01] Debbie McCombers anything else
[00:35:03] Alonzo I'm good take it away
[00:35:05] I want to speak really quickly to all
[00:35:07] the bosses out there hi bosses
[00:35:09] including the boss baby
[00:35:11] you just answer
[00:35:13] I just answer this
[00:35:15] I'm not a baby no you're not a bit
[00:35:17] you're not a bit answer the calls for the boss
[00:35:19] and I know that about you at the red roof
[00:35:21] in 2020 vote
[00:35:23] again what are the what are the days
[00:35:25] they give us a deal what are the dates probably
[00:35:27] gonna be around July 18th when I was taking
[00:35:29] now we need to talk like you
[00:35:31] listen to our show never fail you
[00:35:33] listen to our show and they have promise
[00:35:35] I want to just get anybody from last year who
[00:35:37] did not get a refund they have promise
[00:35:39] to spray for those cockroaches
[00:35:41] they're gonna get rid of them
[00:35:43] listen it was a bit we all
[00:35:45] especially with all the babies
[00:35:47] on the floor yes in the conjoined
[00:35:49] rooms yes yeah it's just
[00:35:51] it's hard to get to those conjoined rooms
[00:35:53] yeah with all the cockroaches
[00:35:57] um you
[00:35:59] can't just don't
[00:36:01] when you're gonna fire somebody
[00:36:03] the best the don't do good news bad news
[00:36:05] don't do don't do it
[00:36:07] to go in there and say I've got good
[00:36:09] news bad news the good news is
[00:36:11] the acquisition through the merger
[00:36:13] it's happening acquisition baby
[00:36:15] bad news is you're fired
[00:36:17] the worst thing to do
[00:36:19] to somebody that's so mean it's so
[00:36:21] mean to them maybe
[00:36:23] you did a knock knock joke would be worse
[00:36:25] good news is the business is
[00:36:27] is gonna grow and it's gonna be bigger
[00:36:29] than ever before the bad news is you're not
[00:36:31] gonna be here to see it the uh your fired
[00:36:33] the only time that
[00:36:35] is the worst good news bad news too because it's like
[00:36:37] good news we're about to make a
[00:36:39] pot of money bad news is you're not
[00:36:41] um I've
[00:36:43] had to fire people it's not fun
[00:36:45] no you would think that I would actually
[00:36:47] enjoy this but it's not fun
[00:36:49] uh because people actually matter believe it or not
[00:36:51] uh the only
[00:36:53] good news bad news I could possibly
[00:36:55] imagine you doing there is
[00:36:57] the bad news is
[00:36:59] we're gonna have to let you go the good
[00:37:01] news is this is your severance and you slide
[00:37:03] a paper across the that is the
[00:37:05] only way you can bad news
[00:37:07] good news a firing that's the only way
[00:37:09] I've got it knock knock
[00:37:11] is there you're fired
[00:37:13] you're fired who
[00:37:15] you're fired clean out your desk
[00:37:17] oh no I always think
[00:37:19] of the scene in up in the air which is getting a
[00:37:21] lot of play on back to Hallmark lately
[00:37:23] uh the scene where George
[00:37:25] George Clooney fires J.K. Simmons
[00:37:27] is just an absolute
[00:37:29] wrenching scene of
[00:37:31] of television it is I mean
[00:37:33] of film cinema absolutely
[00:37:35] it's unbelievable if you've not
[00:37:37] seen it you need to
[00:37:39] find it it's just absolutely
[00:37:41] wrenching it's great stuff
[00:37:43] so we talked a little bit about
[00:37:45] uh that they steal a Christmas tree but not
[00:37:47] really steal above all of that it's big funnies
[00:37:49] um for reasons
[00:37:51] that literally made me go
[00:37:53] what's happening
[00:37:55] is
[00:37:57] they decide at this point in time
[00:37:59] to do weird split screen stuff
[00:38:01] yeah yeah I don't know what
[00:38:03] happened there's literally
[00:38:05] a part of it where she is
[00:38:07] climbed over the fence
[00:38:09] and she's standing on a thing
[00:38:11] getting ready to jump down and it is a split screen
[00:38:13] with her on both sides
[00:38:15] of it where they use
[00:38:17] two different takes of her jumping off
[00:38:19] the thing and I
[00:38:21] don't know why I don't know
[00:38:23] why and what the
[00:38:25] point of it was what they were
[00:38:27] trying to do maybe
[00:38:29] heist maybe
[00:38:31] that's what they were trying to get at
[00:38:33] but I don't like and they don't do it again
[00:38:35] I don't I don't I don't know what happened
[00:38:37] it was very weird um
[00:38:39] logo they had to cover up and they just
[00:38:41] maybe yeah um how
[00:38:43] heavy was that Christmas tree because
[00:38:45] he like just kind of leans it down and she goes
[00:38:47] there's like half a Christmas tree
[00:38:49] there are a lot of the branches are gone but it took her out
[00:38:51] uh last but not least I got a kick
[00:38:53] out of when she barges into
[00:38:55] the um
[00:38:57] improv show at the end and she volunteers
[00:38:59] she says I'll come up and
[00:39:01] um the the woman
[00:39:03] improviser says Amy Bell everybody
[00:39:05] as if they know who
[00:39:07] she is everyone's like
[00:39:09] the Amy Bell
[00:39:11] is like what do you any time you go to improv
[00:39:13] you hope that they're gonna like bring
[00:39:15] in somebody you know like uh
[00:39:17] Seth Meyers everybody the
[00:39:19] Amy Bell everybody
[00:39:23] they got her they got her
[00:39:25] how many people in that crowd were just
[00:39:27] going for it they're like
[00:39:29] ehhhhhhhhh
[00:39:31] people are later at
[00:39:33] Amy Bell everyone
[00:39:35] I don't come to a lot of improv but I guess she's a big big
[00:39:37] huge Dan Thompson everybody
[00:39:39] hey thanks guys uh we're not big
[00:39:41] into doctoring coffee in this office but
[00:39:43] for a movie that's all about
[00:39:45] coffee for there to be no cream or
[00:39:47] sugar anywhere is just wild to me
[00:39:49] like in no scene does
[00:39:51] anyone put anything
[00:39:53] in this movie everyone
[00:39:55] drinks black coffee which is
[00:39:57] what we do in this office maybe a splash of
[00:39:59] milk with a cold brew that is about as crazy
[00:40:01] as we get but if you
[00:40:03] work in an office place people
[00:40:05] dress up their coffee all the time
[00:40:07] knowing this movie not in the
[00:40:09] office not at home nobody's
[00:40:11] like give me the cream give me the sugar never happens
[00:40:13] not once her coffee doesn't
[00:40:15] need doesn't need it already tastes like
[00:40:17] butterscotch what else why would you
[00:40:19] taint it yeah of course no that is what
[00:40:21] we're trying to get across but that's not how people
[00:40:23] are and we all know it
[00:40:25] this is a movie of coffee snobs that's
[00:40:27] like going to you know there's always some idiot
[00:40:29] asking for a one like a prime
[00:40:31] steakhouse like it just there's no you
[00:40:33] know there's no way around it
[00:40:35] that was mean
[00:40:37] for Cameroon Wince of Brear
[00:40:39] I love A1 Sauce exhibit
[00:40:41] A that it is
[00:40:43] Hines that guy it's pretty
[00:40:45] straightforward um hey uh me
[00:40:47] and this guy right here we
[00:40:49] we uh we run a business
[00:40:51] and we care about
[00:40:53] how the business looks especially
[00:40:55] this guy over here creatively
[00:40:57] he functions in a world
[00:40:59] best where he likes to make sure he looks
[00:41:01] a certain way and sounds a certain way that's why we work well together
[00:41:03] the person in this
[00:41:05] movie Amy Bell is
[00:41:07] the one everyone the
[00:41:09] the last person
[00:41:11] on earth that you want
[00:41:13] to surprise with a pre
[00:41:15] designed business card
[00:41:17] and logo like like
[00:41:19] if someone designed
[00:41:21] a Bramble Jam business card for you as a gift
[00:41:23] how terrible a gift is that for you
[00:41:25] I would say like just send me the file
[00:41:27] send me
[00:41:29] send me the file and then we'll
[00:41:31] like that would be sweet it made me twitch
[00:41:33] like to
[00:41:35] for you to I don't even have a business
[00:41:37] logo a picture nothing
[00:41:39] and you you have the audacity
[00:41:41] to print out like
[00:41:43] I gotta breathe through the fact that it's the
[00:41:45] thought that counts there that's not what
[00:41:47] you're doing like no no
[00:41:49] look like there were maybe five tops in the
[00:41:51] box like at least he was like
[00:41:53] true it's only five
[00:41:55] five look he's a school teacher and
[00:41:57] an amateur improv guy so clearly
[00:41:59] he knows all about graphic he knows branding
[00:42:01] coffee shops I think if somebody does
[00:42:03] it's him um especially
[00:42:05] giving it to someone who is a chief
[00:42:07] marketing officer the bulldozer control
[00:42:09] full move control free
[00:42:11] yeah who's organized and a CMO
[00:42:13] yes
[00:42:15] here's your business card
[00:42:17] it rides your dies with this business
[00:42:19] car you're welcome it's romantic
[00:42:21] uh
[00:42:23] yeah it couldn't possibly matter to you
[00:42:25] the other thing that doesn't fit with her
[00:42:27] personality is in her office there is a sign
[00:42:29] that says something to the equivalent
[00:42:31] of God the path uncharted
[00:42:33] provides the most intrigue
[00:42:35] she spent her whole life
[00:42:37] avoiding that path
[00:42:39] do you think she would have
[00:42:41] signs up frames
[00:42:43] that tell her to do the opposite of what she's
[00:42:45] done her whole life
[00:42:47] that it was
[00:42:49] that or live laugh love she had to pick one
[00:42:51] hang in there with a cat on the side
[00:42:53] of a thing
[00:42:55] but at least that works for her character
[00:42:57] like hey I'm hanging in there
[00:42:59] I'm following the plan
[00:43:01] yeah um at one point
[00:43:03] she says uh
[00:43:05] Nico says I bet
[00:43:07] I bet you got you got somebody just always
[00:43:09] got all A's and she pipes
[00:43:11] up with I got straight
[00:43:13] C's in eighth grade
[00:43:15] that is more impressive
[00:43:17] to keep all of your grades
[00:43:19] between a 70 and an 80
[00:43:21] that takes more work
[00:43:23] it takes more work to suck that much
[00:43:25] like if you
[00:43:27] if your dad died and you were going
[00:43:29] through it the way we could tell
[00:43:31] is because your grades would be all over
[00:43:33] the map like A
[00:43:35] and P.E. the F in math
[00:43:37] see it if you got straight
[00:43:39] C's that is
[00:43:41] so much more impressive
[00:43:43] than straight A's
[00:43:45] I've never met anyone that got straight C's
[00:43:47] it's impressive
[00:43:49] look her life was falling apart but she was
[00:43:51] still able to retent it
[00:43:53] well if I'm going to get a C I'm going to get
[00:43:55] all C's
[00:43:57] clean break
[00:43:59] she walks in from her long
[00:44:01] day where she quit her job
[00:44:03] and her mom's there her brother's there
[00:44:05] his husband's there
[00:44:07] and immediately her brother
[00:44:09] just exits as quickly as possible
[00:44:11] he's like oh she's crying
[00:44:13] I am out of here
[00:44:15] I don't want any part of this emotion
[00:44:17] let me leave
[00:44:19] this to the estranged mom
[00:44:21] let me leave it to the mom that hasn't
[00:44:23] talked to her in very long
[00:44:25] which is it's just something
[00:44:27] yeah the idea is supposed to be
[00:44:29] like he's letting them have a moment but it's
[00:44:31] they would be so quick
[00:44:33] it's like we got to get out of here now
[00:44:35] and the mom's about to explode
[00:44:37] and I don't want any part of it
[00:44:39] she says that she's going to say yes
[00:44:41] to everything but the sketchy stuff
[00:44:43] I would submit
[00:44:45] that a grown man
[00:44:47] you just met
[00:44:49] asking you to climb a fence and steal
[00:44:51] a tree is sketchy
[00:44:53] is the sketchy stuff
[00:44:55] that is the aforementioned sketchy stuff
[00:44:57] if your six shots of whiskey deep
[00:44:59] and a man you just met
[00:45:01] asked you to climb over a fence
[00:45:03] and you said yes
[00:45:05] and you said yes
[00:45:07] I'm just saying
[00:45:09] a free improv show already falls under the sketchy
[00:45:11] so I don't even know what we're doing here
[00:45:13] that's all I got
[00:45:15] time for oh no you didn't
[00:45:17] the part of the show I wonder what could have been
[00:45:19] maybe having some clarity
[00:45:21] any questions that we still have
[00:45:23] Alonzo
[00:45:25] the question I find
[00:45:27] the more that we talk about this
[00:45:29] is that for characters
[00:45:31] they're all real chill
[00:45:33] yeah they are
[00:45:35] there's not a jitter to be found in this movie
[00:45:37] and I think given the amount
[00:45:39] the sheer amounts of coffee
[00:45:41] they're all slugging down
[00:45:43] there should be some teeth grinding
[00:45:45] happening maybe
[00:45:47] some tremors
[00:45:49] like everybody bringing to the bathroom every five minutes
[00:45:51] it did not, I was not getting
[00:45:53] a real coffee vibe from these characters
[00:45:55] fair
[00:45:57] so I like good improv
[00:45:59] whose line is in it
[00:46:01] I love who's
[00:46:03] so they do a game
[00:46:05] called ding dong
[00:46:07] and obviously
[00:46:09] for her story
[00:46:11] awful, an awful game to play
[00:46:13] but I also like
[00:46:15] couldn't think of a way in which ding dong
[00:46:17] is funny
[00:46:19] but I googled it, it is an improv game
[00:46:21] I would like
[00:46:23] to see a good version
[00:46:25] of ding dong
[00:46:27] I had just going this is so dumb
[00:46:29] like I don't understand how this could be funny
[00:46:31] you're asking to be reviewed
[00:46:33] even if you didn't get fired that day
[00:46:35] and you have
[00:46:37] an amazing day
[00:46:39] how is it funny
[00:46:41] best case you get
[00:46:43] dinged and you nailed it
[00:46:45] I don't get it
[00:46:47] it doesn't work
[00:46:49] it introduces the concept of no
[00:46:51] into improv which is antithetical
[00:46:53] correct
[00:46:55] so I need to look it up
[00:46:57] I'm sure there's a
[00:46:59] YouTube video of
[00:47:01] a troop doing it
[00:47:03] maybe it's funny but
[00:47:05] the whole time I was watching it I said this can't be real
[00:47:07] because there's no way to make it funny
[00:47:09] googled it, it is real
[00:47:11] that's my way
[00:47:13] and it is a what the hallmark
[00:47:15] that I could actually
[00:47:17] pursue
[00:47:19] Dan how much are these laptops
[00:47:21] to quote Troy Barnes from community
[00:47:23] what market are you
[00:47:25] shopping at
[00:47:27] this is a
[00:47:29] a laptop
[00:47:31] to facilitate learning for
[00:47:33] children in school the way I understand it
[00:47:35] correct
[00:47:37] that's a $200 chromebook situation
[00:47:39] what are you buying these children
[00:47:41] that everything they're doing is not enough money
[00:47:43] for one class to have laptops
[00:47:45] I just don't
[00:47:47] like they sold out an improv show
[00:47:49] what were the tickets a dollar
[00:47:51] like Christmas Eve improv show
[00:47:53] she says at one point
[00:47:55] if we sell
[00:47:57] 12 ounces of coffee
[00:47:59] at $20
[00:48:01] it's $10 profit
[00:48:03] it cost you $10
[00:48:05] to make 12 ounces of coffee
[00:48:07] what market are you shopping at
[00:48:09] and are you paying full retail
[00:48:11] for everything
[00:48:13] yes and then we're going to be able to afford
[00:48:15] one laptop my math and that was like
[00:48:17] the laptop is like $1000
[00:48:19] are you buying a MacBook Air
[00:48:21] for a child
[00:48:23] they're going to ruin it
[00:48:25] don't do that
[00:48:27] stop it
[00:48:29] be better
[00:48:31] get a little bit more financially
[00:48:33] conscious with how you're
[00:48:35] don't do that
[00:48:37] yeah I just need to know more info on the laptops
[00:48:39] I guess is what I'm saying Brandon
[00:48:41] there you go we did everybody congratulations
[00:48:43] we're back next week
[00:48:45] with how the gringo
[00:48:47] stole Christmas
[00:48:49] starring George Lopez
[00:48:51] which is on stars
[00:48:53] which I believe you can also find
[00:48:55] on Philo if you would like to just search
[00:48:57] for it in there
[00:48:59] I'm excited
[00:49:01] we're going to get to it next Monday
