BRAN’S GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 17) SYNOPSIS
Lorelai is listening to a bunch of voicemails from her mom telling her a bunch of things about the DAR.
The next day, Emily is at the inn trying various soups to serve at the DAR meeting. Emily asks Sookie about her wedding planning, scaring her out of using a CD for music.
Luke calls Lorelai and asks for a couple rooms. His uncle Louie passed away and he's helping plan the funeral.
The next morning, Lorelai and Rory show up at the diner and it's PACKED! Cesar is gone and Luke is dealing with funeral stuff, so they jump in to help. Rory goes to force Jess to come down and help. Lorelai encourages Luke to go deal with the funeral stuff, she will work the diner today.
Taylor sees a farmers market has opened up in the town square and he is not happy! What about his market?! The guy running it insists that he is following all the rules.
Lorelai sees her mom at the inn and is confused. There was nothing on the books. She's like oh I'm here with Sookie, helping her plan her wedding.
Lorelai is busy this episode. She's back at the diner when Jackson comes by. He's sad that his nice simple wedding has been ruined, BY EMILY! He asks if Lorelai can help. They want to move the gazebo!
Taylor brings the farmers market issue to the town meeting. He asks to see the permit. He says this is wrong! This is for a cart, kiosk, cart-kiosk. You're not rolling in and out every night. This is the wrong permit! After the town meeting, Luke tries to get the reenactors to commit to the funeral but they all hated Louie - they're out.
Lorelai talks to Sookie about what Jackson said and tries to talk her out of Emily's version of her wedding. Sookie realizes she's gone a bit wedding crazy.
Lorelai goes to help Luke with the casket - Louie had a lot of things he wanted to be buried in. And Lorelai helps calm Luke down.
Emily finds out about this and isn't pleased and gives Lorelai a piece of her mind.
Lorelai shows up to be with Luke at the funeral. It's just the two of them. He asks her if he's like Louie. Lorelai says you are not your uncle. You care about your friends. You took in Jess. You're a good man. As Louie is being lowered, the reenactors show up. Lorelai put in a call.
They make it back to the diner and everyone in town is there for a wake. Lorelai didn't set this up. Neither did Rory. Who planned this?!
Farmers market guy tells Taylor he's done. He sold out. He's moving away.
Rory goes to talk to Jess. She says did you plan this? He says no, I just unlocked the door. Rory says you helped and that means you're officially a part of our town.
The town takes turns sharing Louie stories.

[00:00:02] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast
[00:01:09] This is a Bramble Jam Plus Today's, if you want to relive the moment Yes, Chad? We have a ton of new listeners who don't know you guys from Deck The Hallmark That's true, right So who are we, Bran?
[00:01:39] Who are we? That's a good question Existential question, right? When you think about it, who are we? We are Gilmore Girls And I absolutely love Gilmore Girls And my two friends here I've never seen them before And I'm showing it to them for the very first time We are approaching the end of Season 2 That's right These guys have no idea what happens after that So if you are one of those people who have found us on Instagram And commented and being like Well, wait until this They don't know
[00:02:08] So don't spoil it for them Okay? Don't spoil it Just come along for the ride And hear the hot takes I love to read comments But I can't read the comments Whenever we post a reel About me complaining about any character Someone's going to come to their defense And it probably is going to involve a spoiler Is what's going to happen Right, right So it'll be like Remember when You can't say Kirk is fun Remember when he killed three people in Season 3? We're like, we're not there yet Kirk's fun? He's fun?
[00:02:38] Do you know who he is? Yeah Do you know what he's done? He went to the Capitol on January 6th Do you think that's fun? No, I don't think Kirk would have done that No, he wouldn't Kirk would have done that He would never That would be a fun bonus episode though Which Gilmore Girls were at the insurrection? We'll save that Oh, sorry, my bad Whoa Hey, hey He's a libertarian I don't think he would Would mess around with that Okay Oh, Luke you mean Okay Yeah, yeah I don't think Luke would I don't think Luke would He'd be there before Taylor would be I know Taylor's probably the obvious choice
[00:03:07] But I think he'd be there before Taylor would be Well, Richard Richard would Wow But he's not storming He's just probably running the chat I don't know Maybe funding You kind of Richard sometimes He gets Gets up You know, he starts Like, like Is this What episode Yes, this episode Is a great example Of Richard kind of getting Is this the business plan episode? No No, this is not That's That's the next episode We haven't even covered yet Yeah, that's episode 18 Sorry everybody Which we don't Yeah, no, no
[00:03:36] This is 17 17 And we're covering this We just watched it in real time Hey everybody Welcome to Gilmore Girls chat Who are we, Brian? Who are we? All that to say I don't know if we're actually going to do that bonus episode But come over to the YouTube channel It's a lot of fun Chad How are you, buddy? Are you feeling okay? You don't usually drink coffee Right I'm feeling great I think we should air that episode So anybody who missed it live Has to check us out Trying out the Scooter's Hollow Coffee Menu
[00:04:06] It was so fun to do something Aside from our regular episodes as a bonus So come along, join us It's a little free-flowing And it's fun But I'm doing great I'm sad I'm not there with you guys So I can't wait to get back in person soon But it's going to happen It's going to happen this fall One of these days You know One of these days, yeah And that will be Maybe, who knows By season finale I don't know if I'll make it by then or not But if not, coming up Either way I love where the show's going right now It's really exciting We're making some good progress on everything So I'm excited to talk about this episode
[00:04:36] That's right Well, let's do it, shall we? Chad, I did send you a picture Of the chocolate pumpkin pie That I made this weekend Really? We were asking about I just texted it to you So you can be in the loop there for future Because that is a pie that I make That I absolutely love And I decided It's 100 degrees here I'm going to make it And it would have gone great With a scooter I've never been more proud of you Thank you, man In my life Thank you Wow The bar's low Well, it's one thing to make it For Thanksgiving Yeah It's another thing to make it in August I will say I don't
[00:05:06] When it comes to stuff like Pumpkin spice I don't consider that just a That's not your Christmas tree Okay So I shouldn't be proud of you Cinnamon and nutmeg Those things are available year round It's not like we have to So is peppermint Yeah Wow I'm looking at this picture This is awesome Peppermint anytime You don't associate peppermint with I'm fine with peppermint Whenever you want to give it to me Really? Yeah I am too I am too But because it reminds me of Christmas The things for Christmas Are just anything
[00:05:35] That's not about you ingesting Like it's overt Like I'm not putting up lights Or trees Or like that stuff But if you want to eat Like if you want to have a hot chocolate With peppermint in it That's great I'm all in Okay So for people who don't know You two actually live next to each other And you made a pie And you handed it to Bran Over the fence Yeah I did Well Yeah Kind of But yes Sometimes I do Like last night How were the wings? They were good Great I handed him some smoked wings Over the fence last night Wow What a neighbor Yeah Bran did you eat it in bed?
[00:06:05] No I actually had it for lunch today He was hurt by that I reheated his smoked wings Dear God I just But can I really quickly go back So there's nothing That you eat or taste That you associate with a holiday? Interesting question I mean I do associate Like hot chocolate Or peppermint hot chocolate With winter time Okay And I do associate I guess pumpkin pie With Thanksgiving Okay But I don't have a hold up
[00:06:34] About eating those That's like my whole thing About like Thanksgiving If it was so good We'd eat it year round Like if I like something I'm gonna eat it year round So you don't think You have no problem With me listening to Christmas music all year? Because you like it I think food is very different If you're listening to your earbuds I don't I mean I would never do that Personally But it's your prerogative Sure I just Maybe I'm wrong Maybe we've got enough audio Of me complaining Maybe I've complained About this in the past And don't know it I just This is interesting
[00:07:03] I do think it's crazy That people launch Their fall menus In August I think that's stupid We had a great time With it Like I love pumpkin spice I'm thankful for it I love pumpkin spice year round But I also think Starting fall In August is crazy It's a crazy thing to do There's different It is 100 degrees out That's fair It is 100 degrees out Right now Like drinking a coffee With pumpkin spice in it And starting your fall menu In mid-August Those two are different things Dan do you ever hear Brand blaring
[00:07:33] Like Christmas music From his house Like while it's 100 degrees out No I don't think so I mean he puts a lot Of decorations up And then Last year I got I got ahead of it And I was on my roof In late October That's right And he drove by And some water Yeah yeah yeah I did And I said that Because I wanted it To be ready Come November 1st So if you want it To be able That's totally fair If you want to be able To turn it on Once Halloween is over You gotta decorate You gotta decorate Beforehand And he has I will say If he's out there
[00:08:03] Decorating He'll play some I've heard him play Some Christmas music But blaring it No I think he He wants everyone else To like join in the celebration That is the thing about Brand Is he doesn't want to Like ostracize you I mean An 8 foot inflatable snowman Staring directly at me In my backyard Is ostracizing But I think that's just for me I don't think You would do that To anyone that wasn't me For what that's worth That was for the best Polly in the chat Says if you try to give me A peppermint mocha in August I will throw it in your face That is a Christmas only drink Great Wow
[00:08:32] I don't know if I've ever Had one in August But I would not I don't know I think for me It's like Get it while it's hot We've got our new seasonal You know It's when I When I see Oktoberfest beer On August 5th In the store I'm like What are we doing? Like that is That bothers me But actually enjoying A flavor associated with a season Anytime doesn't really So you want You want them to put out The pumpkin beer Whenever they want to But not associate it with I don't If they want to save it
[00:09:02] Because it makes some money That's fine But save it till it's fall Save it till it's You know How crazy would it be If after Labor Day We got the fall menu And then Hear me out We wouldn't start Christmas menu Until after November 1st Right Well
[00:09:33] It's perfect So I'm down with Not ever having hot coffee So there's that Really Let's dive into this episode Of Gilmore Girls Shall we You haven't done it yet We have not Season 1 episode 17 Dead Uncles and Vegetables Tells you everything You need to know about this Yeah of course it does April 16th 2002 Is when it premiered And it went a little Something like this Lorelai is listening To a bunch of voicemails From her mother Telling her a bunch of stuff About the DAR The DAR is going to be Having the meetings
[00:10:02] At the inn And you need to know All these things So the next day Emily is at the inn Trying various soups That she is planning to serve At the DAR meeting Emily asks Suki About her wedding planning Scaring her out of using A CD for music But I'm sure that's it She's not going to meddle anymore Right Yeah Luke calls Lorelai And asks for a couple of rooms At the inn Because his uncle Louie Passed away And he's helping
[00:10:31] Planned a funeral Some family might be Coming into town The next morning Lorelai and Rory Show up at the diner And it is packed Caesar is gone Luke is dealing With funeral stuff And so Lorelai and Rory Jump in to help At the diner What great friends But Rory can't help But notice Jess is nowhere To be found So she runs upstairs And makes sure that Jess comes down To help His uncle Luke Lorelai encourages Luke To go deal To go deal with The funeral stuff She will work
[00:11:01] The diner today But she's also Going to be at the inn But she's also Going to be at the diner It doesn't matter Taylor sees a farmer's market Has opened up In the town square Taylor's not happy About this What about his market What about his vegetables The guy running it Insists that he has Followed the proper Rules and guidelines And is following Everything to the Letter of the law Lorelai sees her mom At the inn And is confused Thought we already Did the soup thing
[00:11:30] There was nothing On the book So she's like Oh I'm here With Suki Helping her plan Her wedding Lorelai's busy In this episode She's back at the diner When Jackson Comes by And he says That his nice Simple Small Cheap Wedding Has been ruined By your mom Emily He asks if Lorelai can help They're wanting to move The gazebo For goodness sakes Taylor brings The farmer's market
[00:11:59] Issue to the town Meeting that night He asks to see This fellow's permit He says This is the wrong Permit This is for a Cart kiosk Cart kiosk Permit So great You're not Rolling in And rolling out Every night This is the wrong Permit After the town Meeting Luke tries to get All of the Reenactors To commit To the funeral But they are Like we're not Coming We hated Louis Louis sucks So they're out Lorelai talks
[00:12:29] To Suki About what Jackson said And tries to Talk her out Of the Emily Version of her Wedding And Suki Realizes That she's Gone a bit Wedding Crazy Lorelai Has to go And help Luke with The casket Because Louis Had a lot Of things That he wanted To be buried In Wasn't able To close The casket Of course Lorelai Is there To help Calm Luke Down Emily Finds out About The wedding Situation And isn't Pleased And gives Lorelai A piece Of her
[00:12:59] Mind Lorelai Shows up To be At the Funeral With Luke It's just The two Of them At this Funeral He asks Her If he's Like Louis Is no One gonna Come to My funeral Am I Grumpy Do people Not like Me Lorelai Says You're Nothing Like your Uncle You care About your Friends You took In Jess When he Needed Somebody You're A good Man And as Louis Is Lower To the Ground The Reenactors Show up Because Lorelai Put in A call
[00:13:28] They They make It back To the Diner And everybody Is there And everybody In town Is there For the Wake Lorelai Is like I didn't Set this Up Neither Did Rory Who Planned This Thing The Farmer Market Guy Is there And he Tells Taylor That he's Done He's sold Out of All of His Vegetables He's Moving Away Rory Goes to Talk to Jess Because She Suspects That he Is the One Who Planned This Wake He Says I Didn't Plan The Wake I Just Unlocked The Door And she Says Well I think That means That you Are Officially
[00:13:58] Part of This Town And the Episode Ends With The Town Taking Turns Telling Their Louie Stories And that My Friends Was Gilmore Girls Season One Episode 17 Dead Uncles And Vegetables I said Season One Sorry I've been Thinking about Season One a lot But I'm Sorry Alright Let's take a Break We'll come Back We'll break This Episode Down
[00:14:32] Right You waited Until a Full Silent Pause To go It's Pumpkin Sinalicious Cardiac Arrest Right Now It's Just You're Still Drinking Somebody Check On Boy Chad The Hottest Of All The Gilmore Girl Marrier Host That's True Hey We Did Get Some New Reviews Oh Did We Yeah Did We One Better Time Than
[00:15:02] Second From Lizzie McG 17 Finally It Says Love Five Stars And Just Love In The Review Great What Are We Up To I Think We Said That Out Loud Just Put A Five Stars And Put Love We Did We Said It's Very Simple And
[00:16:01] There The Hot It's Only Fair That We Start With The Hottest Gilmore Chad What Did You Think Of This Episode Was Super Interesting For Me Because I I Like The Episode But I Didn't Love It Like There Were Four Storylines Two Of Which I Didn't Care About That Much Because They Were Just There For Alterior Motives To Do Something Else Namely Emily And Suki Was Just There To Show That Emily Was Disappointed She Didn't Get Lorelei Wedding
[00:16:31] And Then What Was The Other One With Oh Luke In The Funeral Was There Just To Serve A Purpose To Show Luke And Lorelei Together More And All It Did For Me Was Cement That Those Two Have Such A Sibling Type Relationship So Deep In The Friend Zone I Didn't Get Any Romance From Them I'm So Glad Chad Taking Heat Off Of Me Here It's So Nice Like We're Working Together We're Not No Romantic Feels Absolutely Taking Some Is Caramelicious
[00:17:02] But The Other Parts That I Absolutely Did Love Was Little By Little We're Inching Deep Into Dean's Heart And Just Scraping It Into Jess She's Pulling Jess Down Every Second She's Like The Kid Pulling The Pigtails On The Playground Where's Jess Why Isn't He Working With The Diner Where's Jess Jess Is Writing My Margins All This Stuff And The
[00:17:43] Best Part Of His Name In The Credits Is Produce Or Still Troubadour Number Two And He Was Awesome He Pops Up In A Lot Of Stuff That Guy He's Fantastic I Like So That Was My Take Four Storylines And It Was Interesting Not A Love But Some Parts That Really Were Necessary I Think That Is A Good Breakdown Of This Episode Chad It Is Bit or Miss The Louie Storyline I Didn't Really Care About All That Much Mainly Because
[00:18:13] We Just Don't Know Louie And So It Is More About Luke Coming To Terms With The Fact That Uh Oh Am I Like My Uncle And That's A Fine Storyline But Not Fine Enough In Oh No What Have I Done This Is Classic Suki Like
[00:18:43] Diving Headfirst Into Something And Then Getting On The Other End Of Being Like What Have I Done So But Yes Taylor And Troubadour Number Two Star Of This Episode And It's Not Even Close Every Scene With Taylor And True Storyline Play Out From Start To
[00:19:12] End In One Episode Of Gilmore Girls Which Is Not Something We Get Very Often These Actual Truly One Episode Arcs And It Was Really Fun It Those Episodes Out There But
[00:19:43] Pound For Pound This May Be One Of My Favorite Really I Love Virtually Everything About This Episode Wow The Emily Being As Big A Part Of It I Obviously I Don't Like That Character I Want To See Her It's Probably The Best Use Of Her She So Clearly A Monster In This Episode Who Doesn't Have Any Care For Anyone Else And It's Just Like You Should Do This You Should Do This And It's All About Vain Conceit None Of It Is Actually Wanting To Help Suki At All And So I Can Give
[00:20:13] That Here's The Stuff That I Liked About This Episode Literally Everything Else Starting With Taylor Getting So Bit Out Of Shape In The Diner About This Guy Selling Produce Fantastic The The The Cart Kiosk I Think He's Losing His Mind Perfect Kirk Just Being Like Your Store
[00:20:42] Is So Empty Five Different Times Saying It So Great The Luke Storyline I Actually Really Liked I Do Believe It Further Cements Him As Very Much A Sibling Kind Of Character To Lorelai I Agree With Chad There I Know That One
[00:21:13] Is Going To His Own Existence And Wanting To Do What's Right By A Guy That Wasn't Great And Thinking If That's Him Or If That Will Be The Response To His Death And I Think All Of That Played Really Well Them Not Being To Close The Because Of Spalding Football Could You Have
[00:21:43] Deflated The Football Of Course Not Them No He Didn't Want It That's Right It Was In The And Five Episodes I Think Even Though He Has Not Come Around For Me As A Romantic Interest For Lorelai At All He Has Come Around For Me As A Character Like A Multi-faceted Fully Formed Character And I Appreciated That Storyline So
[00:22:12] The Emily Stuff I Could Give Which Is The Only Reason I Won't Say It's The Best Episode Everything Else About This Is Pete Gilmore We're Staying In Stars Hollow The Town Is Going Crazy All Of The Intricacies And Excentricities Of The Folks In This Town Are On Full Display Here Everybody Gets To Score Here Patty Is Out There Making Jokes Patty Is Fantastic Oh My Goodness And I've Never Seen A Slower More Torturous March To Death Than The Character Of Dean That Is Crazy It's Like Pulling The
[00:22:42] Band-Aid Off To Pull Out A Single Arm Hair At A Time That Is Just Unbelievable Dean Is Not A Perfect Character What They're Doing To This Poor Child Is Hysterical And Also Terrible Boy Howdy But I'm Here For It I'm Here For It I Laugh A Bracelet Kirk Taylor Patty Troubadour Number Two Give Me Would Was Here For Let You
[00:23:15] Still Think That He's Dumb Um No I Do Think It But I Do Think That My Opinion Has Changed Some
[00:23:45] I You Know Growing Up In Small Towns My Whole Life You Meet Folks That I Don't You Meet Folks That Just Don't Change And That Becomes Their Personality Is How Smart Are Are They I Don't Know If You Refuse To Change In My Head You're Not Right If If You Refuse To Adapt Progress evolve. What you're saying is, is I've cornered it and it's done. And anything else after this doesn't apply to me. And that makes you intellectually inferior in my mind. And that
[00:24:12] might be wrong, but it does to me. So Luke was in that boat of I'm not well read because it doesn't affect me. I don't want to look at how people are living and see how I, what I do affects them because it doesn't affect me. My dad ran this shop. I'm going to run this shop. And that's the end of the discussion. And you know what? There's some really great steadfastness about that. That is a, that is a character trait, not a flaw. But in my mind, that is something that
[00:24:38] I personally, and I could be wrong, just deemed to be kind of pathetic. So that's, that is my thing with him. And Dean does have some of those qualities. I'll just work at the grocery store. I'll just do whatever. Um, I will say that it seems as though Luke does have capacity and a desire to progress, evolve and change. Okay. And so I was wrong on that front. And that means I could be wrong about the whole picture. All right. All right. Very good. Uh, let's get
[00:25:05] to the feels, uh, lots of lines to think, uh, to choose from, I believe, but what do you, what do you got Chad? I have chock full of lines here. I mean, there were so many funny lines in this episode that it just, it worked on so many levels, but I didn't want to just pull them all out. So you could just say overall, the whole stars hollow town meeting, first of all, from the second Lorelai walks in and he's like, Taylor's like, you're late. She's like, darn, I hope I'm not pregnant. You just know they're like, okay, it's on. We're going
[00:25:31] to have fun. Everybody's here. All guns are blazing. Taylor calling the produce guy, Rapunzel. He has the long blonde hair, throwaway line. You can watch that scene three or four times because you'll miss a lot of stuff. Oh, it's fast and furious there for sure. Yeah. And you could tell they're just having a blast. One that you may have missed that came at the beginning was a Luke line and he's not known for being funny, but it made me actually, uh, LOL. So, uh, Kirk says, uh, what is he? Kirk? Oh, Kirk just, the diner is packed.
[00:26:01] Kirk asked for more coffee. Luke turns him, just goes, shut up, Kirk. And I just thought it was so funny because he just ordered a coffee. Uh, and lastly was the end where, uh, Emily asked Luke, what do you think of the Romanovs? The, you know, the family that was just killed at the end of the Bolshevik revolution. And, uh, Luke said they had it coming. And Emily goes, rolls her eyes, looks at the two of them and goes, Oh, a match made in heaven. Like that's exactly what Lorelei would think because they killed, you know, the nobles, the rich. And, uh, I thought those are
[00:26:30] all great lines, just a really funny episode overall. So many great lines. And, uh, you know, I don't want to go, I could keep going on with you guys. We've mentioned a lot of characters in this episode that we love. Of course we love, we love Patty. We love Taylor, all of that. I still have quite the soft spot for Babette. And anytime Babette says something, I usually laugh at it. Babette had a great line. When Babette, when they're talking about his produce and someone
[00:26:58] brings up the squash, she goes, it's sexy, sexy squash. Oh, so funny. I died laughing. Babette just kills me because they don't overuse Babette's at all. And they just let her come in with her, like her voice is funny. So it helps too, but just saying sexy, it's sexy squash. Oh gosh. I love Babette. Babette never, never changed. Never changed. Dano?
[00:27:28] She's probably the big, I'm sorry, but she, the actor who plays her, Sally Struthers, right? She's probably the biggest actual star in the show at this point, even though she's a small role. Yeah. Coming on just for, I mean, probably just as a favor to somebody. It just seems like she's having a blast. Every few episodes just shows up and does her thing. Yeah. Yeah. Um, peak entertainment for me is Lorelai dealing with Kirk in the diner. I mean, like, I really like, that's all I really want to watch him going, I need seven Splendas or whatever. And she's like,
[00:27:57] you need them all in your coffee, right? You're not taking any home. He's like, yep. So she rips all seven packets and pours them and you watch his face. Like I've got to drink this because he's not going to give in. Right. And she's not going to give in. And it is just so, so funny. Oh my goodness. I just goes perfection after making the face that you made after having the sour grape red bull. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Caramel apple, red bull. I, I, I'm so happy you've come around on
[00:28:24] Kirk. Dude. I'm yeah. He's so funny. Early on. I thought Kirk would be like a one dimensional, like flat character, but he's, he's the only one who could do his role and he's still sort of dimensional. But in the best way possible. Yeah. Yes. Um, all right, let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll get to the way we're out in the written in the stars hollow here. Written in the stars hollow. The red bulls fell. Here I go. La la la la. La la la la.
[00:28:53] I do think I need water. I do think I need water. Do you think you need water? It's a lot. Heart's pumping. Hey Brian, would you be able to run and grab a water from in here when you get a second? Be a buddy. You get us a water. Hey, be a bud. I think I've made a mistake. Like, Oh, how are you feeling? Branch? So you, before this episode, you chugged a red bull coffee drink. Yeah. I like, I, I don't get jittery. Like my body, like my, I'm not shaking, but I am a bit fuzzy. My, I'm a, I'm a bit foggy as if I took a, as if I took a gummy or something,
[00:29:23] you know? No. Yeah. A gummy bear. Yeah. Like a gummy bear. Thanks Brian guy. Thanks Brian guy. Let's give it a, pour it out for Brian. Brian in. Where's my water? Brian, that's crazy. It's in the mail. It's kind of, we'll get there. Yeah. Let's get to the wait. What? So we talk about what in this episode made us go wait. What? I'll start with you Chadwick. Okay. So here's a big wait. What? Taylor knows everything that's going on the town. He owns half the town. He's a busy body. He knows everything yet unbeknownst to him. There's
[00:29:52] a produce stand opening around the corner. His suppliers ostensibly were contacted because there has to be some overlap with these produce suppliers. There's a garden. It's all his garden. It's all his personal produce. Yeah. That's why at the end he was like, it's gone. I'm done. I'm done. I sold it off. Okay. Well, I didn't miss that, but I just think Taylor would have known that something was going on. 100%. There was the permit.
[00:30:15] Taylor, Taylor not being involved in approving every permit. I, I didn't buy it. This should not have caught Taylor by surprise. And maybe, you know, you live, you learn. Never again. Never, never again will this happen. He's got to keep an eye on that. Uh, Suki and Lorelai both dropping the, I don't even know if we say it anymore. Now we say little people. The other word for that is really fallen out of favor. The number of times, uh, M I D G E T is
[00:30:44] said in this episode is just insane. Coming off of last week's episode where they just out and out make fun of Indian food. Um, and Lorelai wearing a shirt, uh, that is with, with some, uh, um, Asian inspired font, uh, about Chinese food that is questionable at best. Interesting. What a time to be alive. It was 25 years ago, guys, because oh my goodness, we've grown,
[00:31:11] we've evolved. Yeah. Learned. Yeah. We're, we're all, yeah, we hope we're right. My last wait, my last wait, and I had to look them up. He said, uh, Luke's uncle, and I believe he said he was buried with a Lou Gehrig rookie card. Right. Is that correct? He said, which I looked up, you get them in decent shape. It's around a million dollars. So like, wait, I had the same thought, like at what point do you not honor the wishes? And I think it's
[00:31:41] at that point. I think you look through the baseball carts, I will bury you with most of these. And I think they're dead. If you believe like the only reason you would honor that is if you honestly believed superstitiously about what the dead could do to you after they were dead. That's the only reason you would honor any of that stuff. I would just be like, Hey, let's take stuff out till it closes by value. Like let's start with the most valuable thing
[00:32:08] and then let's work our way down. And when it can close, we'll stop. You're trying to make room and you're taking out a baseball card. It doesn't even get up. We'll start with the Gehrig card. It's big. Uh, let's see if that works. Let's start with that one. I just thought, yeah, I just major weight. I would have had that out. Yeah. I would have had that out so fast. Yeah. Yeah. Wouldn't have even been discussion, but that was it. Yeah. Uh, I don't know how well the inn is doing because that's my big
[00:32:33] one because Lorelai has nine rooms to give away a week out. Not even a week out like coming up for three nights in a row in five days. I didn't even know this inn had nine rooms. Yeah. That inn is struggling. If you can just give nine rooms for three nights, 27 nights of logic. Do we ever see the entirety of the inn and know how large it is? Cause it seems like a small
[00:33:00] boutique, very high end. It's not more than two stories. No, at, at, at, at some point we will get to see, I think a bit more of the inn, but nine rooms is about it. I feel like like if you, like we do the, we do Bramble Fest at Hyatt place. If nine rooms available there are great. It shouldn't be at capacity. That's crazy. Right? Yeah. Nine rooms in a two story in is well overhead.
[00:33:25] Yeah. Has to be at least half of the rooms that are just available. How do you run a business like that? Yeah. I don't know. I also don't know how, uh, she runs a business in this episode. She is at the diner and at the end at the same time, this entire episode, you take a lot of they bounce back and forth and she is always there. It's crazy. She looks at Luke in the face
[00:33:50] and goes, trust me, I've got it. Yeah. And then the next scene, she's at the end. Yeah. Right. What are we doing? Crazy. Uh, wild. Absolutely. And then my last one is when he goes to confront the reenactors, it is three or four people who do have speaking roles and there's a couple on either end that are extras. And one guy in particular who is standing behind, uh, uh, uh,
[00:34:18] Kirk is doing the most with his, with his moments. He's just like nodding. He's like, yeah. Oh my gosh. Phenomenal work by that guy. He found out that he was going to be an extra in this scene and he just needed to nod along. And he said, I hear you. I got this. And he proceeded to act. He said, I am an actor. I will. When that came out, he had his whole
[00:34:41] family. The living room was full. I love that guy. Uh, Dano. Yeah. I only have two more. Uh, one, they were talking about, they do a back and forth Luke and Lorelai do about rugby. And, uh, he said something about the rugby semifinals and she says rugby has semifinals. And I get the joke is she doesn't know rugby, but pretty much every team sport has semifinals,
[00:35:05] right? Like that's not like the, the punchline could have been literally anything other than that. But yes, every sport has every team sport has a semifinal. Let's just go straight to finals. Let's just go straight to finals and call it a day. She knows so little about all, she knows so little about all sports that they don't have. They all have, they all, as long as it's not individual, you've got like, you can play golf tournament, no semifinal, but any team sport before you get to the championship, you play before them.
[00:35:35] Even if it was just regular season, the last game of the regular season would be the semifinal. There's no way around it guys. There's no way around it. Every team sport has it. Unless the entire league is just two teams, there is a semifinal. There just is period. And then lastly, and this is an existential question, but I don't think it's written in the stars. I do think it's a weight. What? It's close to that. Are Suki and Lorelai actually best
[00:35:59] friends? Like not necessarily in the way they treat each other, but in their complete lack of knowledge on the other person, who they are and what they're going through at any given time or their childhood and what made them who they are today. Like Suki's never met Christopher until season two, which is wild. Lorelai constantly leaves and does crazy stuff and doesn't tell
[00:36:25] Suki the wedding cake being a great example. Suki is all of a sudden going crazy with Emily with all these wedding plans and I know it's played for laughs. And I also know that Emily would do something like this. And I also know that Suki would let it get away from her. I know that, but for her to not just go, I know that Lorelai and her mom have a lot of
[00:36:46] issues and I know that that might be a sensitive subject. It is like watching these two best friends communicate is, is like watching two people that don't actually know each other very well. I like it. We've seen this before in other episodes where it's happened, where we've questioned, maybe they become best friends at work. Do we know their backstory? They didn't like grow up. I mean, but they say that they're best friends and they show up at each other's houses in the
[00:37:14] middle of the night when they need to. So that like, but the problem is both worked at the end forever. The rest of this doesn't, the rest of their relationship doesn't match like a deep, intimate level of knowledge. It makes you wonder, does anything happen when the show's not on? Exactly. They just all wait. That's a good written in the stars. How are you? That's it. What the characters are just staring in space? That's right.
[00:37:38] The cameras go off. Everybody just goes. Yeah. And then they come back on. They're reanimated. It's like the toys and toy story, but that's right. Opposites. Yeah. Switch it. Yeah. Opposite Andy. It's time for written in stars hollow. Any questions that we have, we'd like answers to or anything like that. That's what we can talk about right here. Chad, what you got? I am going to stop asking about if we're just seeing more cousin rune and start asking more about produce guy, troubadour number two. I love that guy. He delivered the
[00:38:07] lines so beautifully in like a serious, but silly way. His look, his mannerisms, it all fits that kind of hippie vibe. Maybe that you would get in this new England town as well. Does he get a bigger role? They didn't even name him. So I'm assuming he doesn't, but he is absolutely rad. That's my first written star. Tribal number one is only true. Number one. And he's in basically every episode. So he's not in every episode. He doesn't feel that way, but he's probably one out of every three or four. And he doesn't really do much of anything other than sing.
[00:38:37] That is, that is, but occasionally gets a line like in this episode. So, you know, don't let the lack of name. Yeah. The little George Michael wham. That was interesting choice. Wake me up before you go. I don't know. Cause one, they did be true to your school when it was a school episode, but this was waking me up. I don't know. Maybe it's like the uncle was having a wake, right? Okay. The uncle's wake was less fun than cinnamon's wake. Remember cinnamon's wake?
[00:39:04] My one last thing was Suki is on a lap. Suki was on a laptop talking about streaming and the internet. So we're watching this in real time. Let's fast forward, say 25, 26 years. Okay. Let's just catch on streaming. That's a really great question. Right. What's funny though, is that the way that she's using streaming is different than how we are streaming the show.
[00:39:30] That's right. Right. She like is using it as a way of explaining how something is like showing up on her screen. It's like streaming in. And I did find that interesting. Yeah. It's so cool to see what, what came about since then too, in the 25 years hence. And that's it. There's my written in the stars. More produce guy. Yeah. I do want to know, uh, Jackson comes over and is talking to Lorelei and is like, look at them over there. They're measuring, they're measuring the whole town. So funny. They're going to move. They're going to move the gazebo. Right. But she mentioned,
[00:39:59] or he mentions, uh, Emily's tape measure and that it's like gold gold and bought it from some fancy store. And I don't know if that was a joke or not. Like I do kind of buy the fact that Emily would have a golden hundreds of dollars tape measure, but I'm not sure. I'm not certain. So I do kind of want to know about what type of tools are available at the Gilmore estates or tape measures, a tape measure,
[00:40:28] but I can't see Emily being like, I found this tape measure. It is a couple of hundred dollars. It's gold. It's gold encrusted. I got to get this. I can buy that. But I, it also seems like it could have potentially just been hyperbole, uh, by Jackson who is one to hyperbole. So, uh, Tiffany and co does make a sterling silver tape measure. How much is it? You can get, uh, $1,400. Oh, we should, we should get a couple. Yeah.
[00:40:54] I have extras. We were going to do a couple. Oh, you bought a few extras in case. Yeah. We were going to do a couple more, uh, coffee tastings, but I think it's better to use our money for this. Yeah. I have two, one real quick in this universe that we're a part of. How often are the town hall meetings? Like, it feels like obviously they just use them whenever they would like to, right? So like whenever they need a town hall meeting, but like, is this a town that has weekly
[00:41:21] I think it's weekly. It's a good question. They just call them. They just call them when something big comes up. If there's enough going on, we'll call one. I don't know. I could see, I could say that's a lot of town hall meetings. Well, it's interesting because there's town hall meetings and then there's the actual governance that issued the permit. So you never see the two mixed together. Town hall actually at town hall. Uh, my, my second one is a lot more like character based philosophical, which is, you know, Emily is doing all of this stuff and it's
[00:41:51] like, you should get this stuff from Hungary and this stuff from blah, blah, blah. And like, just enjoying trying to control the wedding. Right. And then, um, Suki finally wakes up and fires her. Right. And then Emily just walks away. Well, if I knew anything about Emily and rich people, uh, Emily would have heard it and went, I'll pay for it all. That's what she would have done. She has no problem buying emotions and feelings with money. I think we have plenty track record that, that Emily
[00:42:21] will do that to manipulate you and control you in the loves conditional. If she had said, I'm paying for everything. I'm paying for the dancers coming from China. I'm paying for this. I'm paying for the gazebo to get moved. If she had paid for it, would Suki have still realized it was wrong? Interesting. I don't see why she wouldn't go for it. Would Suki have realized she'd alienated
[00:42:44] her fiance. She had gotten in bed with Lorelai's mom. That was a, it's a sticky subject. Would she have realized any of that? If Emily had said, Oh, don't worry about the money. I'm paying for all of it. No, I think cause she liked it and she would just justify it and go, you know what? I'm the bride. It's my day. I enjoy this. I'm going for it. Cause she really did like that planning. Yeah. It's interesting. That's a great point. This show just wrote itself out of like a,
[00:43:08] a 10 episode arc here by just making Emily not do what Emily would have done. Emily would have immediately been like, wait a minute, why are you firing me? Cause she wants control. Right. And so it's like, why are you firing me? Oh, it's the money. Oh no, no. I'm paying for everything. That would have happened immediately. It has a lot of value cause it brings her closer to Lorelai aside, like around. It's like a roundabout. By proxy. Yes, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. So that was my other one. Uh, well, congratulations to us. We did it. We're going to be back next
