BRAN’S GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 8) SYNOPSIS
It’s Friday night dinner, and Rory agrees to pose for a painting. Apparently it’s a family tradition, despite the fact that Lorelai’s portrait was never finished.
The next day, Lorelai is chatting with Luke about business. Apparently he’s a big business boy. She and Sookie want to make the leap and open their own inn. They’re still early in the process, trying to figure out how to buy that property she found with Luke’s ex, Rachel.
Taylor is shocked when he walks up to Luke’s and sees police tape and a chalk outline on the ground. WTF is that about?!
Lorelai and Sookie find out that the owner of the property is the sweet old lady who runs the bakery, Fran. They go talk to her, but she says she can’t sell it. It’s the last thing she has left, and she just can’t let it go.
Taylor calls the police, and they come down and are like, “We have no idea what this is.” Taylor says, “I’ve got a dead body outside my store!” The cop replies, “No, everyone is accounted for. It must just be a prank.”
That’s when Rory, who has just walked up to the growing crowd, sees Jess looking on with a smirk. That darn prankster.
The owner of the Independence Inn is in town! Mia lovessss Lorelai and Rory, and they spend the day together. After hanging out with Mia, Lorelai begins to feel bad about potentially leaving both Mia and the inn.
Taylor figures out that Jess was behind the prank, so they throw an emergency town meeting to discuss what to do about him. They conveniently forget to tell Luke, but he walks in anyway and gives the whole town a piece of his mind.
After the meeting, Lorelai finally tells Mia about her plans, and Mia handles it great. So great, in fact, that Mia reveals she wants to sell the inn.
This causes one of Lorelai’s classic overthinking freakouts. She tells Sookie they should just press pause on the inn idea. It’s never going to work out. Then she really lays into Sookie: you’re too disorganized, you’re not ready, this is a mess. Sookie storms off.
Rory bumps into Jess and tells him that he’s making Luke’s life harder. The whole town is coming down on Luke because of him, and it’s not fair. Jess is like, “Yeah, but did you think it was funny?” They start getting a little flirty when Dean suddenly appears. Jess is like, “Oh... boyfriend? You didn’t mention that.” Awkwarddddd.
Lorelai and Rory show up for Friday night dinner, and Emily proudly unveils the new painting. But Lorelai is still in a bad mood. She tells her mom what’s going on—how Mia came back into town and completely threw her off. And, surprisingly, that throws Emily off too.
Lorelai starts to feel really bad about her freakout. She realizes she was just overwhelmed by everything they were trying to do. After talking it over with Luke, she goes to apologize to Sookie.
Emily shows up at the inn to meet Mia. She tells her she wishes she had encouraged Lorelai to come home. But also... “Do you happen to have any pictures?”
The episode ends at Luke’s. Rory watches as Luke realizes that Jess secretly fixed the toaster. The two of them share a smile. Uh oh.

[00:00:03] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast
[00:00:50] Over the last month, the people have spoken, Bramble Jam. The numbers are what the numbers are. And to say we've grown exponentially is a bit of an understatement. We're, people are tuning in. We hope we don't let you down. But all five star reviews too right now. Wow. Literally quantitatively the highest rated podcast in history. Think about it. Man, and I, it's crazy that you broke that because I didn't know that information until just hearing it from you.
[00:01:19] Well, 5.0 isn't that as high as it can get. So, oh, I see what you mean. I think you meant the highest listened to. No, the highest rated. You are correct. By the numbers, with a minimum of a hundred ratings and reviews, we are the highest rated podcast in the history of podcasting. We might be tied with a few, but it's done. Christmas Cousins. Are you over a hundred at Christmas Cousins? Oh, we are actually, I think I told you we had so many. Oh, they rolled over. That's right.
[00:01:47] Once you hit a hundred million, it starts at zero again. Yeah. It's the rollover. Typically, if you have me on your podcast, you don't stick at five. You know what I mean? Like there's going to be somebody angry. Yeah. This is wild. Yeah. Chad, I do want to ask for those that don't know, you host another show called Christmas Cousins. How would they not know? I know, but millions versus hundreds of it. Some might not know. Do you, and we are coming up. We're approaching quickly the halfway to Christmas mark.
[00:02:13] Do you got any big plans for you and Cousin Seth to celebrate a halfway to Christmas? In classic Christmas Cousins fashion. Of course, we have the Christmas Cousins coleslaw spectacular coming up, which is a summer special. That's coming up soon. So we are on hiatus. Yeah. I don't want to know. What's that? I don't want to know. You should know you're both going to be invited. So we're on hiatus. So we're taking a hiatus from our hiatus and coming back because Cousin Seth dropped that he hates coleslaw.
[00:02:41] So of course we said, well, we need an episode to help him overcome this aversion to coleslaw and learn to love it live on air. So you get to make Seth try a bunch of different coleslaws basically. I also hate coleslaw though. Can I tell you this? I thought I hated coleslaw because growing up it was basically mayonnaise with occasional cabbage. Right. Like, and I don't like that, but I have grown, like as an adult, a really good vinegar based coleslaw. Oh my goodness. It's amazing.
[00:03:10] If it's still got the crunch to it and you can throw some mayonnaise in too, as long as the crunchiness of the slaw and the cabbage remains, you can really like, slaw can really take your, your meal up a notch if you do it right. So, you know, Well, that's coming up on Slaw the Marrier, our new podcast is a good segue to introduce it. Yeah. It's coming up. You're going to try a bunch of coleslaws for the, I would try coleslaws with you. Yeah. Ooh. Okay. I'll be texting you afterwards at time to set this up.
[00:03:37] Dan, you can join as well, but if you like, we like people who don't like the products. Yeah. I was about to say, I'm good. I'm convinced by and large, unless you just do a heavy mayonnaise based coleslaw that I'm out. But I know that already. Can I ask you something, Chad, before we get going? Cause we don't have anywhere to be. Um, and this is a personal question. Every time that we ever record with you here or there, you always look like you just shaved that morning. Like I'm talking fully clean shaved, like you're in the military level, straight razor every morning.
[00:04:06] Aside from today where it looks like you have not shaved today. And so I'm asking you about your personal hygiene habits. Yeah. What's going on? You growing a beard? What's, what's happening here? I love being on this. Yeah. I love being on this show so much that since we recorded last week, I have been sitting here doing nothing, having food delivered and just waiting. So that's it. This is a week's growth. That's a week's growth. Got it. Wow. It was not the answer I thought I was going to get.
[00:04:32] I also might've just gotten out from surfing and yeah, from the waist down and wet and in shorts and smelling of saltwater. It could be that possible. One of my favorite smells. Yeah. Right. Should I go full brand with the beard? Do you think? I mean, listen. What's the longest beard you've ever had? Have you ever let it go? Yeah. I mean. You strike me as a person that wants to shave every morning though. Right? Yeah. Maybe sometimes twice a day. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. So this guy has a straight razor and he's shaving every day.
[00:05:02] I mean, listen, you got a good jawline. But also the job that you have that we don't talk about here. Right. Probably better that you do shave every morning considering you don't know where or when you might be utilizing your line of work. Correct. Correct. Sometimes in the job we don't talk about, I actually do need to grow out a beard for it and sometimes I don't. So it does vary. Wow. Yeah. Some people want you to grow a beard for that job. Yeah. Fascinating. People don't talk about how much beards vary when it comes to drug sales, but it does.
[00:05:32] Some of his clients will only buy drugs from him if he's got a beard. And I get that. Yeah. It's a trust thing. The higher end ones, the cocaine buyers. That's the big score. Sorry, did I say what I did? Oh, no. Oh, no. It's a bird seed. With the Knicks winning, I have to say our business has been booming. No, never mind. I'm sure. Dan, can you do the quick math while I do the synopsis? What episode are we going to be on for Bramble Fest? I can do that. We're going to be doing live at Bramble Fest.
[00:05:59] This one's coming out Saturday the 20th. This is a Wednesday show. Oh, it's a Wednesday show as it always has been. The 17th. Wednesday the 17th. That's right. No, the 24th. Can I say for people who are new listeners who may just listen to Gilmore the Marrier and not Deck the Hallmark, you guys have a podcast network called Bramble Jam. That's right. And there's a festival you have every year in Greenville, South Carolina called Bramble Fest. That's right. We'll be doing a live show from there. Yes, we're very excited about that. We're going to be watching episode 13.
[00:06:29] Okay. Episode 13 is the one that will air the Wednesday after Bramble Fest. Hopefully it's a good one. Hopefully it's not a snoozer. Yeah. But yes, we're going to be doing a live Gilmore Girls. We're going to be watching it all together. Wearing pajamas, which we've not done any more work on and no one's done it. And I just want to be very, very clear. No, that is not true. What's going to happen is we're going to have nothing. We're going to have to just wear normal pajamas, which is fine by me. I just want to be very clear. All this talk. And we had some people send you some pictures. Yes. And you think that's work. That is work.
[00:06:59] It is half the battle. Bramble Fest is in a month. I understand. Oh, I've been working behind the scenes. I know Bran is. I'm working on the Founder's Day punch. I've been trying all different variations, ingredients. I haven't been sober in probably two weeks. Yes. Hence the beard. That's the real thing. That's a week's worth of Founder's Day punch. He can't hold a razor right now. That's right. Exactly. So anyway, Bramble Fest. DougDolmer.com slash fest. You can buy a virtual ticket if you want to. You can buy a virtual ticket, yep.
[00:07:27] Or you can come in person to Greenville, South Carolina. It's going to be a lot. Come in person and meet us. That'd be great. All right. Let's talk about the ins and outs of ins, shall we? Great. Great episode. November 20th, 2001 is when it premiered and it went a little something like this. It is Friday night dinner and Rory agrees to pose for a painting. Apparently, this is a tradition despite the fact that Lorelai's painting was never finished. You can't imagine why.
[00:07:56] The next day, Lorelai is chatting with Luke about business. Apparently, Luke is a big business boy. I'm sure that was shocking to you, Dan, as somebody who only hates Luke. She and Asuki want to make the leap and open their own inn. They've been talking about it for a while. We've talked about it a little bit, but this is something that they want to do. They're so early in the process. They're trying to figure out how to buy the property that she found when she was with Luke's ex, Rachel. We call it the Rachel house, but just not around Luke.
[00:08:26] Taylor is shocked when he walks up to his grocery store and sees police tape and a chalk outline on the ground. There was a crime. There was a dead body here. What WTF is this about? Lorelai and Suki find out that the owner of the property is a sweet old lady who runs the bakery. Her name is Fran. They go to talk to Fran, and Fran can sell it and cannot comprehend what they might be talking about.
[00:08:55] Hey, when you take the long vacation out of town, what will you do? She doesn't think she's going to die. Taylor calls the police, and they come down, and they're like, we have no idea what this is about. The tape, the outline, no idea. Taylor is like, well, I got a dead body on the outside of my store, and the cop is like, no, everyone is accounted for. It must just be a prank, and that's when Rory. Prank TV. Prank TV.
[00:09:23] That's when Rory, who had just walked up to the crowd, sees Jess looking on with a smirk. That darn prankster. I tell you what. The owner of the Independence and is in town, Mia is her name, and she loves Lorelai and Rory. As you might remember, Mia let Lorelai and Rory stay at the inn when she first came to town and helped them kind of figure things out.
[00:09:49] After spending the day with Mia, Lorelai begins to feel bad about potentially leaving Mia in the inn. Taylor figures out that it was Jess who did the prank, so he throws an emergency town hall meeting to talk about what to do about Jess, except they don't tell Luke that they're having this meeting, and he walks in on it, and he gives them a piece of his mind. After the meeting, Lorelai finally tells Mia that she might be leaving by another inn, and she handles it great.
[00:10:18] In fact, so great that she says, I actually want to sell my inn. I don't even want this thing anymore, so this would be great. This causes Lorelai to have one of her classic overthink freakouts that Lorelai is known for. She tells Suki that they should just press pause on the whole inn thing. It's never going to work out, and then she just lays into Suki about how she's too unorganized and that she could never make it in business. Suki does not take this well. She storms off.
[00:10:47] Rory bumps into Jess, and she tells Jess that he's making Luke's life harder. This town is really coming down on him, and it's not fair. And he's like, bud, did you think it was funny? And then they start having a little flirty, flirty fun time. Dean walks out, and Jess is like, oh, you have a boyfriend. You didn't say that. Awkward. Lorelai and Rory show up to Friday night dinner, and Emily shows off the new painting, but Lorelai is still in a bad mood.
[00:11:17] She tells her mom what's up about how Mia came back into town, and that clearly throws Emily off when she hears about Mia. So Lorelai starts feeling really bad about her freak out on Suki, and so she goes to talk to Suki, and talks about how she was overwhelmed by what they were wanting to do, and just because she couldn't do it. And she's talked to Luke, and then she apologizes to Suki, and everything is great.
[00:11:44] Emily shows up at the inn unexpectedly to meet Mia. She tells her that Mia should have encouraged Lorelai to come home, not just take her in. But also, you got any pictures? Could you send any pictures my way? The episode ends at Luke's as Rory watches as Luke realizes that Jess fixed the toaster. They look at each other and smile. Uh-oh. And that, my friends, was Gilmore Girls Season 2 Episode 8.
[00:12:13] The Inns and House of Inns. We did it. We did do it. Let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll break this episode down here on Gilmore the Marrier. Exhausted. I need a cigarette after that synopsis. Man, he needs a cigarette. This guy's growing a beard, smoking cigarettes? Crazy. He has one bad batch of Founders Punch, and all of a sudden, he's off the wagon over there. I'm like Jess. I'm a bad boy.
[00:12:42] Chad was like just drinking tea and eating fish and vegetables, and all of a sudden, now, he's like a pack-a-day Founders Punch kind of guy. That's right. My wife woke up this morning. She's like, why is there a chalk outline of a dead body, Chad? I'm like, I'm a bad boy now. Great TV. Let's share our thoughts on this episode. We're going to start with a hot take. I'm going to start with you, Chad. What did you think of episode eight? Fun episode? Oh, my God. You can tell from a synopsis that needs its own synopsis. This was a chock-full episode. No pun intended. Chock.
[00:13:12] Oh, that's right. Very good. I did not intend it. Very good. Thank you. So this is one that we talk about that we really love. When they're back cozy in Stars Hollow, town meeting full of everybody, we see these characters that we have not seen almost all season, or at least all together. We had Michelle, we had Sookie, Dean, Jess. All these people. So fun. This sub-story about the Rory Oriel portrait, I could have done without that. It was silly. Kind of fun, but it's kind of dumb.
[00:13:41] Lorelei and Sookie, or as my notes say, Donnie, buying an inn. I love that story. I love Donnie. Yeah. He's my favorite Backstreet Boy. Mia, the inn owner coming to, I don't know what that means either, guys. Do we edit this show? We'll take care of it. We'll take care of it. I'm pretty sure that was a new kids on the block joke, right, Chad? I'm giving you credit for a great joke. Okay, good. Fantastic. Great. We'll fix it in post. Great stuff. I've got the right stuff this morning. Oh, man.
[00:14:10] Hang in top, Chad. Nicely done. Yeah. Take it step by step. Step by step. That's right. Ooh, baby. Okay. So, Mia, my favorite part was Mia, the inn owner. Ooh, baby. Why do we even need to talk about Gilmore the Married? Let's just have fun. Just get in the town so we can hang out, Chad, for crying out loud. This doesn't feel right. I know. I'm like Christopher. You guys only see me seasonally now. It's terrible. You may as well be Rune. You remember him? I hope he shows up. Stop it.
[00:14:39] They forgot about him. So, my favorite part was Mia, the inn owner, coming to town. Such a cool part of the backstory to see who actually let Lorelai in, who opened her heart in her home and her hotel to her, really helped raise her from 16 on. And that seeing her and Emily head to head made this such a great episode for me. I love the storyline of Lorelai and Sookie working to build the inn because that is the future. But getting back into the past with that kind of whole backstory, meeting Mia, seeing how
[00:15:08] she really loved her, looked after her, wonderful, loved it. It's a great episode for me, for sure. Yeah. It's good to be back, folks. Any episode with a town meeting, are you kidding me right now? I'm all in on town meeting, which I'll talk about a little bit more later. But yeah, I thought that this episode was really great. And this is an episode, I said it in the synopsis, but this is a classic Lorelai freak
[00:15:36] out episode where she just gets in her own head. She takes it out on the people that she loves and she has to figure out how to fix it. But I felt like the it was just the right amount of the the prank with Jess. Like when it first cut to it, it was such a quick scene. It's literally just Taylor walking up and just being like, what is this? And the way that it spread out and then leading to the town meeting before the town meeting and Luke's freak out on him. It's perfect.
[00:16:06] It was perfect. I loved it. And the Bev stuff is interesting. You know, the Mia stuff. Hey, Brian. Brian. The actor of Mia is Bev Shield from Christmas with the Cranks. She's great. Oh, we love Bev Shield. Shout out Christmas with the Cranks. Always a good time to shout out. And Brian making his first appearance on Gilmore the Marry Rock. And making his first appearance. That's right. Never again, guys. Never again. Okay. That's fair enough of that. I yeah, it's interesting.
[00:16:35] I'm intrigued to see the storyline continue to evolve. And I she was such a sweet character. Nice. Clearly loves them. Clearly sometimes doesn't even understand them. Like their jokes are over her head, too. And so the interaction between her and Emily, I thought was great. Great TV. So, yeah. Big fan of this episode. Yeah, I would call this the most episode we've ever gotten. Like, I think there's a lot happening here. I don't.
[00:17:03] I think some of it I really liked and some of it felt like it could be its own episode. Like the portrait felt like, why are we spending so much time on this? Because I do feel like the Jess stuff was kind of shortchanged in this episode. We have a town meeting. We have a bunch of scenes with Jess. We have the portrait stuff going on. And we have the Mia character, all of which I feel like could have been the A episode of a story. This felt like three or four A storylines all kind of fighting for attention. Yes.
[00:17:33] And so interesting. It goes by fast. I don't know if it's my favorite of the episodes, but definitely not boring or bad by any stretch. I like it's my least favorite town hall meeting. I still am here for every town hall meeting. If the show took place. Why was it your least favorite? It's a wait, what? Why? Why it's my least favorite. But it was my least favorite town hall meeting. We'll get to that a little bit later, but it's still a town hall meeting and I'm still here. You have to. I know that you're not a Luke fan. I'm not. You're not a Luke fan.
[00:18:03] Specifically when it comes to Lorelai, but you have to admit that Luke yelling and arguing with Taylor is the best. Okay. I want to be very clear. I don't know if I'm a Scott Patterson. I don't know if I'm a fan of his or not in this role. I don't think anyone's a fan of Scott Patterson. I don't know if it's the role or the actor, but I, I don't, I don't mind Luke as a character. I have no, I don't think he and Lorelai have great chemistry and I don't think he should
[00:18:33] be with Lorelai because at some point you've got to step up to the plate and swing. You've got to step up and say something and, and make some sort of move of some kind and to sit there and look longingly works for six episodes max, not 600. And I think he's annoying, but as a character who's grumpy and cranky and always at odds with Taylor peak television, I am not mad about that at all. One hundred percent.
[00:19:03] I'm mad about that, but he should learn from his nephew, Jess, Jess shoots a shot every second. He sees the world, right? Well, yeah, exactly. Which is juxtapose Jess and Luke there. And also the Mia character is very interesting to me. I, I, by the end of the episode, I felt like she was lovely, but I'm fascinated by this character. And I don't think we're going to get a lot more of her because the character seems way too good to be true.
[00:19:28] Like this is a, this is a show that one of my favorite things about this episode was they made Lorelai a complete a-hole. Like one, like, and, and it fits her character. Like she's looking at Suki saying that Suki's unreliable. That is hysterical, right? From Lorelai who can't ever make it to work on time, who can't be anywhere when she's supposed to be, who's always running out the door.
[00:19:52] And like, but I think it's so great that they let this character who we're pulling for and we're picking teams and all this stuff, be a terrible human being from time to time. I think that's a really good television show that would do something like that. I'm fascinated by a character like Mia who seems to be just all the way good to the core, 100% benevolent all the time and always says and does the right thing.
[00:20:19] Doesn't feels like it belongs in this show with all imperfect people. And, and so I was fascinated by that character and I, I would love to see her hang around long enough for us to find that that is not the case. I get the feeling we will not though. Yeah. So there's that. A lot more Mia. There's a lot going on there with her. Yeah. No, that, that scene, I felt, uh, let's get to the feels, shall we?
[00:20:41] I know we don't do feels here, but I genuinely was so like, uh, Suki, Melissa McCarthy played that so well. Like you could see the hurt. Oh my gosh. You could, you could feel it. You get the feeling she's about to break out and really just become the most memorable person. It was such a good scene by her. Um, and her just being like, I'm going to leave now because if I don't, I'm going to cry and I don't want you to use that against me as I'm too, but like that whole, that those
[00:21:11] lines were bars. Uh, she was fantastic, but you go ahead, Chad. I'm sorry. I just jumped ahead, but it was just, Oh, it's all good. And that was totally out of the blue for Suki, Suki, Suki. She did not see that coming from Lorelai at all. Like they were having a great time. They're playing in the end and Lorelai comes in this out of the box is going off on her, which was wild to see. It was very real. You're right. And, and, and Dan, you and I have never really had an argument like that. No, we have for that one. Except for that one. And we want to talk about it again. And you didn't open the end because of it. The Bramble. We did not open the end.
[00:21:41] Jorts are shorts. Okay. That's all I'll say. I'm not going to say anything else. Jorts are shorts. Not in the workplace. Stop it. They're not in the workplace. They're not shorts. I'm not even joining this. It's in the name. Go ahead. In the name of jorts is shorts. No. The end of it. It's jeans and shorts together. They're still shorts. Jorts are shorts. The conjunction is shorts. Thank you for agreeing with me, Chad. You said you weren't going to get involved. That's all I did. You said you were going to stay out of it.
[00:22:11] Thank you. I didn't want to get involved, but you know what? If you don't vote, you can't complain. Jorts are shorts. There you go. Yeah. I'm rendering my verdict. You're on the wrong side of history. I'm not saying they're not shorts. I don't think they're workplace shorts. It's different. Right. Okay. That's fair too. Just because I cut them with a pair of scissors and they're tattered and frayed doesn't mean they're not shorts. You cut them in the workplace. You bring your jeans. What I do to my own jeans is none of my business. I just think there's time and place for everything. That's right. Yeah. All right.
[00:22:40] I agree with both of you now. Skies out, thighs out. You know what I mean? That's right. Don't I know. I think we should wear jorts for the bottoms for the pajamas. How about that? Jort bottoms and then Gilmore's. Conjoined top. Are the jorts still conjoined? Conjoined jorts. That would be a little uncomfortable. Yeah. Denim conjoined. That'd be great. So what was interesting with this episode too, some of these episodes, they're like totally silly. The entire episode, like the Harvard trip. And then this one has like three good storylines that could be their own episode, which is really fascinating.
[00:23:10] So this one was, this one was great. And it moved the story along and gave us backstory. So with all that, just to go with what you guys are saying, just a chock full of everything episode. But in terms of favorite lines, we've got Jess. He's got a pop collar. Yeah, he does. He's so cool. Oh boy. Hey, you're doing a shortcake. Hey, hey. But he's like, yeah. He's literally with boxes and stuff. It's great. He's going to go. Yeah, that's right. Hey, sit on it, Ralph Mouth. Whatever he's doing.
[00:23:39] Sit on it, Potsy. And then Ralph Potsy. I believe. I think he might be right there. So he goes, you went to that bizarro town meeting. Those things are so long paws. So to kill a mockingbird. Oh my gosh. It was my favorite line because it was so ridiculous how they had a jackhammer in that he's literate, that he can read. Well, what's crazy is that your favorite line is kind of my issue with Jess's is that. So you're still out on Jess? Yeah.
[00:24:09] Well, I just, there is a funny prank. There is not a hilarious prank. There is not one right way to read the dialogue written by Amy Sherman Palladino. There are myriad right ways, but when it's wrong, you can just hear it. It's like going to the symphony in one instrument, not playing the same way the rest of them are. And I feel that way about Jess right now. I'm not saying he's not getting on board. I'm saying that like everyone else knows their character's version of how to read this dialogue.
[00:24:36] And Jess has just taken dramatic pauses and he's staring intensely at things. And it's like, this show is a musical without the music. Like you have to know how to do that and say the dialogue. And I think we just kind of take detours into Jess's world. And I'm just not here for it just yet. He's fun. He dropped in the middle of Stars Hollow. It's a little bit of a mismatch right now. Yeah. But it will come around. I just like how they had a Jackhammer in like that he reads. I think he's going to get there. Okay.
[00:25:05] I have hope. I appreciate that. And let's not forget though, when he's saying the town is raging him. Make me look bad. Sorry, whatever you're in chat. George's remix reel coming up next week. It's going to go viral like our other ones. Yeah, that's what the Gilmore fans want. Yeah. Exactly. It was interesting that he's referencing to kill Mockingbird. The whole town's against him. Number one, he was wrong. He was guilty. And to kill Mockingbird, the guy is Tom Robinson. Wasn't guilty at all.
[00:25:35] He's just mob justice. And he was totally innocent. So it's kind of a big stretch there. But one other line that we saw there that was very prescient, Sheikh Suki goes, I hope it's not that bastard Donald Trump. That's so great. That's a one. A one. A one. Yes. Second Donald mentioned so far in this show. I had to say it aged like fine wine. I'm just saying it. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Worked out well.
[00:26:03] There is a, so when Luke goes in to the meeting, he gets in an argument with Taylor. Yes. But then also a pretty heated conversation with a character named Bootsy. Bootsy. I'm not, I've seen this show. Was not overly familiar with Bootsy. Bootsy. The guy, what I call him is the dude behind Taylor. Bootsy is, Bootsy's given it to him and they get into a whole argument. Right.
[00:26:29] And then when Luke goes to leave, it cuts back to Bootsy and Bootsy says, because Luke is like, I was going to invite you all over to the diner afterwards, but I'm closing it down. And then he goes to leave and Bootsy goes, his turkey burgers are a little dry. Which is the perfect button for that scene. I loved it. I love Bootsy. I'm here for it. Data. I said the dude behind Taylor there, just say it saying he has his back as a champion. I also very rarely do I love any scene with Emily or Richard in it.
[00:26:58] But I love in virtually no other context of an American television program set in modern day. Would someone not know the phrase get out of here? Like I haven't read it down. I have everything down to everyone knows that phrase. However, the reason I don't think it's a wait, what is because they have made Emily quite a caricature of something that I believe the creator is probably working through personally.
[00:27:23] And it provided some fodder for an opening scene before we hit the theme. And I kind of enjoyed it. I enjoyed the lunacy of Emily not knowing this phrase and it creating kind of this snowball effect of how we get our opening stinger. I guess it's possible that the person who's never had pizza has also never heard get out of here. They've paved the way for it. Both are ridiculous. But yeah, there's that. Sorry about that. All right. Let's take a break.
[00:27:52] We will come back. We'll break this down a little bit more here on Gilmore the Merrier. Somebody out there. We cut the mic out. I thought we cut it. Yeah. The crowd's really liking that. They really are loving it so far. Yeah, for sure. They did the wave during the break. The wave. Yeah, yeah. It was good. We had to quiet them down. Yeah. It's a live show. All right. Let's get to the wave water. So we're talking about what in this episode made us go, wait, what?
[00:28:22] I'll start with you, Chad. My number one, Dan already touched on. Sorry. Sorry, buddy. Emily, of course, not like the get out of here. But you're right. It does kind of have its precedence with her not knowing how to eat pizza, which is all so weird. It's stupid. The precedence is they've been this stupid before. I don't want to defend the show. They have made the case that Emily is this weird caricature that can be as out of touch as needed or as in touch as needed. And that's what they've done. Yeah.
[00:28:51] Like that one, when Lorelai walks in and Emily goes, what are those? And Lorelai goes, they're jorts. And she goes, jorts? You know, like everybody would know. Emily would think that jorts are shorts. That's who, Bran is the Emily of Bramble Jam. That's right. Totally. I am who I am. I have two others that really stood out. So Lorelai is very smart. She is an intellectual superior to Luke. She also knows her stuff. She's running a business. And she's in business school. She's sitting there at the diner with Luke.
[00:29:20] And he's explaining just the basics of an LLC to her. Yeah. It's like. Yeah. Mansplaining LLC is a good look for Luke here. Yeah. Especially when Lorelai, you're right, is superior intellectually in every way. I don't. Guys, she came to him for help. But also, I will say, well, that's also weird. When his dad built the whatever. Was that this episode where he gives a story of his dad and he literally just inherited the building and started pouring coffee and making burgers? Yeah. Get out of here. Yeah. And the argument with Bootsy.
[00:29:50] Bootsy's like an entrepreneur. And then he's like, your dad started the company. And then Bootsy's like, your dad started the company. He's like, but I changed it to a diner. But yeah, he, you know, she, for whatever reason, I guess Luke is the only business person that she knows that she can ask these questions to. I don't, I don't know. Mia's right there. But I mean, in LLC, that's like day one of business. That's LLC. Yeah. So anyway, I was just curious. And it was definitely some man's plan. Long loose cannonball. Right?
[00:30:21] Long loose cannonball. That's LLC. All them live. Yeah, that's right. Really good. Downtown Greenville. Dive one more. Luke and Mia, the inn owner, walk in and they hug. Great, right? They learned that history. Then they keep hugging and talking to each other very closely. In each other's ears. Yeah. Yeah. It was a little weird. And it was like three full lines back and forth where they're still holding the hug and talking. And that was just a little weird. The Mia character. You're not going to like Bramble Fest then, brother. Yeah.
[00:30:50] Because every conversation is right in the ears. Yeah. Mouth to ear. Mouth to ear. Mouth to ear. That's what we call it. It's the Bramble Jam way. I hate that. I hate it. But it's true. It is true. I don't like saying it out loud. I don't like verbalizing it. I will say this. Mouth to ear. Mia's character doesn't, serves a very valid purpose for these characters, but does not make sense in this show at all. Like doesn't, doesn't, it doesn't like the character doesn't make sense.
[00:31:17] Although she was kind of the angel who looked after Lorelai at her time of need. So maybe she's this weird catch all like that is like everything this town and these people in real life is, is not, you know, um, I got a couple one, the, uh, police officer who comes to talk to Taylor. Taylor's like, is someone dead? Uh, and then they're like, no, they're, they're not there. It's just an outline.
[00:31:44] Uh, but we'll go and make sure that everybody's accounted for and no less than five seconds later. She comes back and goes, everyone's accounted for. That was fast. Quick. And it goes to, you know, we are always wondering how big is stars hollow. How many people are in this town? And sometimes it feels like there's more than we see. And other times where you can make a count in five seconds, it feels as smaller than we think. So, uh, it's very interesting. And Brian, what if someone was out of town for the day? Are they just going to count that as the dead person? Yeah. Yeah.
[00:32:13] It was a tough day to get ahold of everybody that quickly. It was a tough day to go out of town. That's for certain. Um, Luke comes over to do some stuff around the house for Lorelei. I guess the, whatever it was, what's it called? Chad's the thing, the arch needed some maintenance. We'll have one at Granville. Kind of offense. What's it called? Chad? Why are you asking me? Yeah. Let's go to Chad's corner for the pronunciation. Are you kidding me right now?
[00:32:41] Honestly, that's a nicer name for the corner than what we originally went with. That's right. Thank you. Um, that wasn't alliteration. I know. Uh, so, uh, he brings in this goat, this goat statue, which the head has been cut clean off and he's just going to glue it back together, but that is a clean cut. It's not like, no, no jagged. This was straight through. What happened to this goat? Samurai Katana. Is it, is it, is it Jess?
[00:33:10] Did Jess come by? You know, the, one of Jess's famous pranks, famous pranks. Did he cut the head off the goat? Cause the head, it did look like somebody took a samurai sword and went straight through the neck of this. Uh, it was very, it was a very clean cut. Uh, I think, I think it might be, uh, Jess, uh, to blame there. And, uh, my last one, the, uh, Emily comes, she's talking to me. Uh, she's like, you got any pictures? And Mia says, I'll send a box full of pictures tomorrow.
[00:33:38] And with, and Emily's like, okay, great. Wait, but don't tell Lorelei that I came by. Don't tell. So how is she going to get this box? Does she never matter? Does she never matter? Does she know the address? Zero sense. We will just send it to Emily and let the postal workers do with it. That scene is tough. They know. They know. Maybe this is, we find a little flaw in Mia's character that she's a total liar. She does not do what she says, right? I mean, she's over promises underdelivered.
[00:34:08] Emily's sitting on the front porch waiting for the box to show up in the mail the next day. She said there'd be a full box of pictures. And Mia's like, I did it. I did it. Dana? Yeah. I, I think it would be pretty awesome if we could, you know, like see some of the things that Jess has done around town that makes him so terrible. Like we've basically, we know at the end of the episode that he does the outline, which
[00:34:36] is just good, clean fun in that town. But like what they're saying at this town hall meeting is he's like destroying property and doing all these terrible things. And up to this point, we've not really seen anything that would suggest that. Right. I just don't know if we've really done the legwork here to make this guy as bad as we're supposed to believe he is. Yeah. There is an episode. It's either the first or second. I think it's the second episode that he's in. He is getting in trouble.
[00:35:06] He's stealing the gnome. Okay. He's doing some stuff at school that he's getting in trouble for. I guess that they, you know, I also had to recalibrate my brain that Lorelei and Suki are trying to start their own in and Dean and Rory are in love because those two things really weren't on the menu the last few weeks. Like they just weren't. And so that is part of this that you, I guess I just, I could have forgotten. The reason this is my, go ahead. I was going to say, other than that, the only thing Jess has done that we really know is that he dressed up like Luke and only a tool would dress up like Luke. Yeah.
[00:35:34] Who would do that? Right. The reason it's my least favorite town hall meeting is because the town hall meetings are great fun because I grew up in a Southern Baptist church where we had business meetings and they had to pass everything through a entire congregation vote. And it led to the silliest arguments you would ever hear about everything you could possibly think of painting the church. What time Sunday school starts toilet paper change. This, these town hall meetings are just sticking in my veins. They're so great in this town hall meeting.
[00:36:03] They have met early to determine if someone should be able to live in their town. We are, we are in borderline all white Jim Crow territory. This is, are you serious? There's a teenager in town and you've called an entire meeting behind the guy who's taken him in back to discuss if you're going to keep letting him live there or not. That's too serious for this show. I, I'm not here for that conversation. He's a kid.
[00:36:32] Like I, I, that took a lot of the fun out of it for me to, for them. Like pitchforks and the whole town meeting ahead of time to go. How do we kick this person out of town? I just, I, it wasn't for me. You're so wishy-washy. You hate just one minute. You want to say, I don't hate just, but man. Dan would be leading the charge. No. Biggest one. I found it funny. I almost wrote this down. They started the meeting early, right? To do this.
[00:37:01] Luke and Rory and Lorelai and Mia show up two minutes before it's supposed to start at eight. He's like, oh, you guys started early where it's two minutes to eight. Yeah. They should have stopped the meeting. 100%. What was their? Taylor should have lied. Like he should have been done with that at 750. You got it. For sure. If you're going to have a secret meeting to kick someone out of town, you don't want to risk that dude's guardian showing up. Of course not.
[00:37:30] You got to end that before two minutes. 100%. And how are they legally going to do that anyway? They decided to get him out of town. I mean, the only thing was to get him arrested. The rest of this is so funny because it's so silly yet so probable that a small town would be upset about the Founders Day punch or about the dance class running long or about the reenactment. Like all of these are real things that a small town that takes its tail too seriously would argue over. Kicking someone out of town that's a minor, I just, it wasn't funny. I just didn't lie.
[00:38:00] I was just like, this is ruining these meetings for me because I love these meetings so very much. And so that was a downer for me. I have two quick ones. One is just following Rory. There's like three times in this episode where she's doing something and he just like pops up from behind a corner and it's a little terrifying. And then lastly, and I just wrote this down, Rory's portrait reading the book looks like Zooey Deschanel. Go back and look at it. It looks, it's crazy.
[00:38:30] It's uncanny. How much it looks like Zooey Deschanel. That's all I got. It's time for Written in the Stars Hollow. It's a catch-all similar to the Mia character. What do we got? What do you got going on, Chad? Two that I have. First of all, going on, touching on Mia here. I do want to know, do we get more Mia? Because I feel like there's a lot to go on. I would love to see Mia and Emily go head to head. That would be so great for me. That would be really fascinating. So more Mia. Also, Dan, I love that mug you're drinking out of. Fantastic mug. Thank you.
[00:38:59] Just for you. Yeah, beautiful. Put your coleslaw in there. Coming up. And also, I want to know the in plans. I love the idea of those two owning an in together. How far do these plans actually go? As Melissa McCarthy's star rises, what's the plan long term for the producers and things? Because they know she's going to be hard to get now. It seems like this episode is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Like, Mia wants to sell the inn.
[00:39:29] Lorelai cares about the inn like it is her own home. Hmm. I wonder what could possibly happen next. I will be floored if Suki and Lorelai don't take over that inn. Like, absolutely. That means a new set they have to film on? Get out of here. I will bet someone money. What do you mean get out of here? What does that phrase mean? Yeah, that's true. I'll explain it to you later. But I would bet someone money that hasn't seen the show.
[00:39:55] Anybody that wanted to take that bet, I would bet someone a lot of money that Lorelai and Suki are going to end up with the inn they're currently working at. It seems too obvious a solution. It does seem like it. And the fact that they say it's too expensive. First of all, Chilton was too expensive. And Mia's going to give him a deal. Or she's going to let him rent to own or lease to us. Exactly. Pay it off over time. Luke said you could do an LLC. Oh, wow. And Luke could give you all the ins and outs of that if you ask real nicely. Right.
[00:40:25] Here is my written in the stars. Hold on. Are you ready for this? Oh, yeah. So we see Bootsy in this episode, right? Yeah. And I was like, who is this Bootsy? Bootsy is apparently the owner of the newspaper stand. We've seen him once before. Okay. Right. That episode that he is in is where we get the other Trump mention that has happened in this show so far. At the newsstand. Bootsy talking to Lorelai at the newsstand. Yes. Interesting.
[00:40:52] And then the next episode that Bootsy is in, season two, episode eight, another Trump mention. Wow. Wow. Was he an apprentice or something? Where was Bootsy on January 6th? Lots of questions here for Bootsy. That is quite the coincidence. Wow. And I don't know what to do with that. I don't know what to do with Bootsy. But I'll keep an eye on it. Keep an eye on it. If he's in another episode and it happens again, then we've got a conspiracy on our hands. That is for certain. Dan?
[00:41:23] Yeah. The sign up at Luke's Diner behind the counter that says no cell phones allowed. How long has it been there? Has it been there a long time? Since the beginning. Okay. Is that for just the staff, Luke, and whomever joins him? Or is that for the customers? It's for the customers. The customers can't have cell phones. You've seen this way. You brought this to the attention. It's almost like we watch these and we don't watch them for a while. This was like, I think this might have been episode one. Lorelei gets a call on her phone. He points to the sign. Okay. He tells her to get out.
[00:41:53] And you were like, no cell phones. We're still doing that a year and a half, two years later, huh? Yes. And it's not going to go anywhere. Well, it's also, they're still using landlines in this show. So it's not as prevalent yet where everyone needs their phones. But also, there have been several moments where someone's on a cell phone in the diner and Luke has said nothing. Several. You think so? I believe there might have been other Lorelei moments where that has happened. Yes. Let's take it to the tape. Yeah. Let's take it to the tape. There might even be one in the next episode or two if I'm guessing.
[00:42:23] It's a weird thing to say. It's a weird guess. Yeah, really. You're right. It's a weird guess. Oh, we did it, everybody. Congratulations to us.
