BRAN’S GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 3 EPISODE 2) SYNOPSIS
It’s Friday night dinner and Lorelai is clearly annoyed to be there. Rory tries to facilitate a conversation and it doesn’t go well.
The next day, they’re at Luke’s. Jess’ new boo thang walks in and they kiss hard again.
Apparently there’s a mouse at the inn. Kirk shows up and is surprisingly not the exterminator. Instead, he asks Lorelai out for dinner in 2 weeks.
It’s time for the first day of senior year. Rory invites her mom to see her speech after school as she’s sworn into student government and tells her that Emily is going to be there. Afterwards, Emily asks Lorelai if they can get lunch just the two of them.
The next day, a girl named Francine pulls Rory into the bathroom and tells her that Paris isn’t actually in charge. She’s the senior class president and the leader of the Puffs. She’s going to do what she wants, which starts with higher hemlines, OR ELSE!
Emily shows up at Luke’s for lunch. She insists there’s no hidden agenda. Then immediately goes right into how she called Christopher and she knows that he’s not in love with that woman and she implores Lorelai to call him and tell him that she wants him.
At the next student body government meeting, Rory pushes for the hemline thing that Francine wants. Paris goes for it.
It’s time for Friday dinner and the energy between Emily and her new maid is weird. Apparently Richard gave Emily a hard time about not being able to keep a maid so she’s committed. Christopher ends up showing up. He’s like you won’t return my phone calls and I knew you’d be there. It turns into a big thing where Rory tells him that he just needs to go and be someone else’s dad. Emily hears all of this go on and tells Christopher it’s time for him to go.
When they get back into town, Kirk stops Lorelai to ask if she’s allergic to tuna. She tells him that she can’t go out to dinner with him. While Rory is in Dosey’s, Jess is there. They finally talk. She asks him if anything interesting happened this weekend. He says her name is Shane. She’s like well it threw me off! He’s like well you didn’t reach out all summer. And you’re still with Dean.

[00:00:57] deckthehallmark.com/marathon slash Marathon if you want to watch starting Friday at 6 p.m. Eastern going all night long. You'll see how Chad does. That's right. We're going to draft some movies, which Chad probably doesn't even know about. We're going to eat a bunch of food. I will say the reason Chad's not here now is we got in an argument over which Kringle to eat while we did this episode. Chad was adamant we do the autumn flavor and we wanted apple cinnamon. So we got that. But it turns out Chad was right to stay away because not only is Racine Danish Kringle our sponsor,
[00:01:26] you eat one of these, it's a party, right? That's right. You eat one. Hand-iced, handmade Danish pastry. 10% off the entire. In Racine, Wisconsin. They're ginormous. Look how big they are. They're so big. Unbelievable. That was a shape of C for Chad. That's right. He had a whole party with this. That's right. And you get an entire store, Kringle.com, 10% off with the promo code GMOCT26. But there's also something for that one that, Chad, tell us about that autumn one. Just tell me about it. I have the autumn one in front of me. And I tell you, the best thing is I heat it up a little bit.
[00:01:56] Right now, I've got a pumpkin spice coffee going. I have this heated. It's kind of overcast. It's become the perfect fall day. And all I'm doing is sitting in my house. But it has completely transformed my afternoon from just a dull experience to all of a sudden, I'm making these nostalgic autumnal memories. And it, fellas, it's fantastic. It's multi-layered. It's flavored. It tastes super fresh. And it goes on. And you can share it. It's huge. It's so different. You look more autumnal. Just looking at you. You do. You're oozing autumn.
[00:02:26] I will say, you know, you can buy these and freeze them and have a little bit of that autumn ooze whenever you want. That's exactly right. You can actually cut a few slices out and then refreeze it. That's true. And it stays good for six months. So if you want to have a get-together, order a bunch, and then keep the ones that you really love out for everybody. And then a few you want to try maybe in the freezer and you got yourselves, you know, a lot of opportunities to enjoy as many foods as possible. How do you eat them? Are you eating them heated up? I like them cold.
[00:02:56] So like take them out of the freezer about an hour, hour and a half later. I prefer cinnamon or cheesecake. Or if you want to get crazy, get a strawberry and a cheesecake and do a slice of each together. That is kind of where, you know, the magic happens. But cinnamon, gingerbread later on in the season, pumpkin spice, pumpkin caramel, cheesecake, Bavarian cream. Almond. Pear almonds. Good one. That's a new flavor. Dude, maple. Was it maple pecan we tried? That was amazing. That was amazing.
[00:03:25] But we bring up the autumn Kringle in particular then because just this week until the 16th, you can get $3 off an autumn Kringle by using the promo code GMAUTUM26. That's right. GMAUTUM26. That's $3, three buckaroos off. Give it a shot. You might ooze autumn. That's just the autumn Kringle. You want to get one of those. And this is the cheapest price you're going to be able to find at all season. That's exactly right. I'm going to try to set up the cinnamon one right now. You should do that. One last point about them.
[00:03:53] They really are, because I've given a couple to neighbors. And what a presentation it makes because it's big. They pull it out. It just looks like a gift. It's something so different than just bringing over a pie or a cake from your local grocery store. Really something memorable. Listen. 100%. My kids also live for the Kringle. If I bring out a Kringle, a Tuesday night becomes a weekend immediately. Yes. Seriously. They just are like. Wow. Tuesday night becomes a weekend. They are like, oh. They see me pull it out of the freezer and they look at each other like, oh my gosh, we're going to cry. I'm serious.
[00:04:23] I don't want to get into the weeds here. But if Tuesday becomes the weekend, then what does the weekend become? Saturday is like Monday. It's an extra weekend. Oh, it's on top of it. I don't know how that song says everybody's working for the weekend. Yeah. You make out a Kringle, nobody works. Right, right. I love that. It's true. Productivity does go down. You can't afford it because you're getting 10% off, you're getting a $3 off. You don't even need a job anymore. This is my first try of Apple Cinnamon and it's a new favorite. Well, there you go. Very, very good.
[00:04:51] I can see Dan's productivity going down right now. The GDP nationwide is going down. Those reviews are going to go up because I'm going to talk less. You know what I mean? That's exactly right. GM Autumn, $26, $3 off. The Autumn Kringle. I think we did pretty good there. Sorry I got into the weeds there about the days. That was my fault. Are we going to have Kringles at the marathon, guys? It's going to help us. Are we going to have Kringle at the marathon? There's going to be so many Kringles at the marathon.
[00:05:18] And we got a pretty fun situation going on with Racine Dan and Skringle Company in regard to the charity that we're raising money for this week. That's right. Racine Dan and Skringle is going to be in on the charity as well. Stay tuned. Very cool. All right. Let's talk about season three, episode two. Season three, episode two. All right, Target Lady. Haunted leg.
[00:05:47] Haunted leg is the name of this episode. It's called Haunted Leg? Haunted Leg. October 1st, 2002 is when the episode premiered and it went a little something like this. It's Friday night dinner and Lorelai is clearly annoyed to be there. Rory tries to facilitate the conversation. It doesn't go well. The next day, they're at Luke's. Jess's new boo thing walks in and they kiss hard again. And apparently, there's a mouse at the inn.
[00:06:17] Kirk shows up, surprisingly not as the exterminator. Instead, he is there to ask Lorelai out. What are you doing? Just counting how many times we could each cut that piece. Very good. You just do your thing. Sorry, I just see you really going to town on the Kringle and I just didn't know what you were doing. Asks Lorelai out on a date and is like, hey, let me know. You have two weeks.
[00:06:46] So it's time for the first day of senior year. Rory invites Lorelai to see a speech after school as she's going to be sworn into the student government and tells her that Emily is going to be there as well. Afterwards, Emily asks Lorelai if they can go to lunch, just the two of them. Sure, there's nothing to worry about.
[00:07:09] The next day, a girl named Francine pulls Rory into the bathroom and tells her that Paris isn't actually in charge. She's the senior class president and she's the leader of the Puffs. She's going to do, Rory is going to do what she wants, which starts with higher hemlines for the skirts or else. Or else. Emily shows up at Luke's for lunch. She insists there's no hidden agenda and then proceeds to show an agenda that was hidden.
[00:07:39] Um, goes in and is like, hey, I just want you to know I called Christopher and, uh, I know for a fact after this conversation that he is not in love with this woman. And she implores Lorelai to call him and tell him that she wants him. Lorelai is like, shove all the way off. At the next student body government meeting, Rory pushes the hemline thing that Francine wants and Paris ends up going for it.
[00:08:06] Almost worse than, uh, anything that could have happened because now Francine's is like, okay, I know exactly how to get everything done. It's to go through Rory. It's time for Friday dinner and the energy between Emily and her new maid is weird. Apparently Richard gave Emily a hard time about not being able to keep a maid. So now she's committed to this one. Christopher ends up showing up. He is yelling and he's like, you won't return my phone calls, Lorelai. I knew that you'd be here.
[00:08:35] I showed up and it turns into a whole big thing. Rory tells him that, uh, he just needs to go and be someone else's dad. And then she storms off. Emily hears this whole thing, goes in and tells Christopher that it's time for him to go. So when they get back into town, Kirk stops Lorelai and asks if she's allergic to tuna for the date. She says, Hey, I'm not going to go out to dinner with you. It's not you. It's me type thing. Well, Rory is in doses.
[00:09:05] Um, Jess is there and they finally talk and she asks him if there's anything, uh, happened this weekend. Um, you know, and he's like, listen, her name is Shane. She is awesome. And she's like, well, uh, sounds great. Uh, but whatever. And he's like, listen, you can't get mad at me. You didn't reach out all summer long. Also, are you still with Dean? Are you still with Dean? Are you still with Dean?
[00:09:34] Uh, she's like, yes, I am still with Dean. And so they both do the thing where they're like, well, okay. Well, okay then. And I guess we'll see what happens to those two lovebirds. And that my friends was Gilmore Girls season three, episode two, Haunted Lake. Guys, it was set in season two for a long time. Somebody in the chat said that they thought you'd been day drinking. He hasn't. I have not. Oh, she updated and said, or he's just being more Bran than usual.
[00:10:03] I haven't even had a bite of my Kringle yet. Maybe that's what it is. Man. Bran catching strays over here. He's not day drinking. He's just himself. That was mean. That was mean spirited. All right, let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll break this episode down some more here on Gilmore the Marrier. I get it. I get it. Welcome back. Listen, I'm talking like Chad writes. So it's. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
[00:10:33] That's right. It was fun. We all have our struggles. You see the Kringle and you get distracted. I get it. All I want. It's right in front of me. All I want is to eat it. There's no way you have one of these out and it's not the star of the show. You have one while listening to this while it comes out on Wednesday. It makes Wednesday feel like Saturday. Oh, no. Oh, no. Kringle down. Kringle down. Another day drinker. Now we can make it into a G. Kringle just fell for those of you who are not or watching the video. All right. Whatever. It's so good. The Kringle. Dan and Brandon are now on the floor eating it off the ground. Yeah.
[00:11:03] For those of you that are listening. Great expectations where they're drinking the wine that breaks out of the cracks. Okay. Hey, Chad. What'd you think of this episode? I mean, this is a lot going on this episode. First of all, I loved that the writers made us wait for Rory and Jess to talk until episode two instead of just doing it right in episode one. That was so cool and such patience that they did that. I love that because the whole episode and go, when are they going to talk? When are they going to talk? It was kind of towards the end of the episode two. So I like that they did that.
[00:11:32] There was obviously a lot going on here. We see Rory, Jess, Dean, Christopher, Emily, Dinner. We see the puffs back again, which we'll talk about. But here's what was most interesting to this episode and why I liked it so much. There was a really cool parallel. And tell me if you guys picked up on this between what Rory was doing and what Christopher was doing. Tell me about it. Okay. So Rory is sitting here talking to Jess going, hey, Jess, what are you doing? You moved on. I thought we had a thing. Let's talk or whatever it was.
[00:12:01] And Jess turns and goes, what do you mean? Are you with Dean? End of story. Yes or no. That's it. Rory is talking to Lorelai. Christopher is talking to Lorelai. And Christopher is saying, what are you doing? We had all this going on. Let's try to work this out and make it happen. And then Lorelai says, Christopher, are you with Sherry or aren't you with Sherry? End of story. So such a parallel between what they were saying to Rory and what Lorelai was saying to Christopher. And I love that writing because it really shows the bloodline coming through. Show lots of parallels.
[00:12:31] Show lots of parallels. Yes. They really do. I was trying to talk longer so you could finish that bite brand too. I appreciate it. You got anything else? Now it's my turn to eat. Yeah. No, my turn to eat now. Okay. Maybe you got one more thing to say? I have. Yes. You can finish. I have plenty. You know, my notes are good. No, no, no, no. Let's see. I got it. I got it. Yeah. I really liked this episode. A couple of really great moments here. Obviously, the end of the episode is like that conversation. To your point, it's one we were waiting for.
[00:12:58] And I can imagine if I'm watching in real time, I'm like, when are they going to talk? But I got to watch it back to back, so it didn't feel as crazy to me. But I can imagine if I am like, I just want these two to talk. Not doing that argument at the end of episode one of season three. It was a bold move and I appreciate it. It was really fun. The Kirk storyline here is fun, but also confusing at the same time.
[00:13:28] Like him not being the exterminator, this kind of came out of nowhere. And I also, by and large, don't know the point of it aside from let's give Kirk something fun to do. But he also does have experience as an exterminator and they had an extermination storyline. It's the biggest weight. So it's a little bit confusing.
[00:13:51] The student government stuff, setting it up for what is hopefully going to be a really fun season of student government and Paris getting to be in the weeds there. And I can't imagine what's going to happen when Paris finds out that Rory is taking notes from the senior class president. Can't imagine it's going to go well.
[00:14:15] Well, the Christopher showing up to dinner and that argument, wild, great TV. And Emily being like, it's time to go now because she's awesome. B-A-Emily. Call her. Bye, Emily. Really great episode. I am absolutely loving this season. I feel like we are just in a sweet spot right now. Everything is clicking on all cylinders. Absolutely having a blast. Dana?
[00:14:44] Yeah, I liked this episode but didn't love it. I think it's a step down from the premiere episode. And I think it's because it feels as though we're getting the things that they think viewers want us to get, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But I'm here for those episodes that have a lighter touch from a standpoint of there's some quirky, zany stuff going around in an episode happening. And then you get a deep moment or some moment of character development.
[00:15:14] There's only so many of these episodes that I'm really here for. We're really heavy on Richard and Emily early on in this season. And the hijinks seem forced. There are several characters in this episode that aren't their normal selves. And Kirk is the main one. Now, I love. Look, put Kirk. I think people realized how much Kirk was loved. And so he's had a pretty big starring role in the first two episodes. Lane, Kim, Nowhere to be Found. Fine by me.
[00:15:43] But Kirk just being just enamored with Lorelai definitely comes out of left field. There's a few other character choices I'll say for my weight watts that also come out of left field. And then you get Christopher like they don't know how to shoehorn him in. And so they just have him show up and, you know, act entitled. And I guess that that scene is fine. Like I wasn't mad at this. It goes by quickly. But this isn't high up on my reasons I watch Gilmore Girls list.
[00:16:11] I would prefer a much more nuanced version of them showing us this symbolism than what we get here, which is like hammer hitting the nail all the way through the 2x4. I will say this. Milo is in peak form here. Milo's in peak form. He has, I don't know what he did over the break, but he has fully adapted the Amy Sherman Palladino dialogue structure and cadence, and he's crushing it.
[00:16:38] My man was clicking on all cylinders here, and I really did like that. How old was he in here? I don't know. I looked up, I think everybody in this episode, the last one, like Dean's the youngest of those three. So he's, but he's an adult? Milo's old. Yeah. Milo's hot in this episode. Yeah. Milo's looking good. This is peak Milo in every capacity. Milo is also looking like, young Milo's looking like a young Miles Teller. They look very similar to me here. But Milo's crushing it here.
[00:17:04] But overall, let's get back to more town-centric stuff. Like this episode is heavy in, you know, with student government and then Richard and Emily's house. And I'm, it's fine every now and then, and it's early, but it would not be my choice of episode to rewatch. Interesting. Let's get to our feels. Chadwick, what you got?
[00:17:28] Well, first of all, the brutal, brutal feels was Rory standing up for herself. So Christopher and look at Brand going for that Kringle. He just went after it. How do you like the apple cinnamon? How do you like that? You've had a lot of flavors. Very good. I got to be honest. I thought I put you full screen. You gave me a look like you were going to do that Kringle wasn't allowed to be aired on TV. That's great. You keep going, bud. Now your full screens are down. All right. Bam, bam, bam. That was a.
[00:17:58] Act like you can't see me. Okay. It's hard to look away. Man, he's manhandling that thing. He is. Jeez. Okay. Look at that. Everybody go watch on YouTube right now. Nick Brand. Nick, you want to grab my Kringle? Okay. Here we go. Don't isolate that. Do not isolate that anyone. Okay. Chad, it's early in the morning for you to be grabbing your Kringle, buddy. Exactly. Joe, the Christmas vision. I was already cutting and pasting. Here we go. Okay.
[00:18:27] Christopher and Lorelai are arguing. Lorelai are arguing, like going back and forth like crazy. Rory comes up and just says, this is really brutal, especially as a father of a teenage daughter. He comes up and says, you know, Rory, I want you to understand. She goes, I always understand. And I don't want to understand. And then she says, all I need is something. I've got mom and that's all I need. Go be somebody else's dad. If you didn't feel that. Oh my gosh.
[00:18:56] That was brutal. Rory doesn't normally go off like that. She's more reserved. I mean, you got a shirt. It's a shocking amount of time that both Rory Gilmore and Emily Gilmore let Lorelai take the beating of a lifetime before stepping. It's insane to me. They should both be shot on sight. Rory listens to her mom verbally get the piss beat out of her. Right. For like three minutes before she comes in and is like, let me tell you what's what, dad.
[00:19:26] And then Emily's like, I'll still. Emily's like, I don't think she's had enough yet. Hit her with a couple more. And then she finally is like, you should leave, I guess, which is the bare minimum. Like Emily, Emily lets Lorelai just absolutely for something she didn't do. Like Lorelai didn't do any of this. She just didn't want to talk to her ex. That's right. She didn't do anything. And Emily's like, maybe if she listens one more minute, she'll learn. Well, there is Lorelai likes, she likes her independence.
[00:19:55] She can stand up for herself. So by the time they realize that, you know, you're not, you're not ready for Lorelai getting beaten. This is, you know, in Saving Private Ryan where Jeremy Davies character is sitting. Maybe you guys, I've lost both of you already. You've not seen this part of that. Have you seen Saving Private Ryan? I believe so. The translator who gets thrown into war and he's never fought and he's on the staircase listening to his brother in arms get murdered up the stairs. And he's frozen and he can't do anything about it. And it's such a tough scene. That's what's going on here.
[00:20:24] Except they're not frozen. They're just like, hit her again. Like they're just like, are they in joint by the arm? What do you mean? Brothers in arm? No, different brother in arms. This is just how people talk in the arm services, Bran. Yeah. Bran hates the troops. You just heard it here first. I wasn't familiar. I thought they were connected. They just joined twins. Lorelai is in the right. Her heart has been broken by this man for the umpteenth time.
[00:20:50] He barges in completely entitled and she takes a verbal abuse like no other. And literally her mom's back there going, is my cigarette completely done yet? It's unbelievable. Only Emily Gilmore has the ability to make me like go, yeah, Emily. Knowing full well. And the only reason why he showed up. Where were you five minutes ago? The only reason why he showed up in the first place is because she called him up. That's right. This is her mess.
[00:21:19] But there's something about Emily Gilmore that pulls me in every time. So Emily Gilmore shows up and says, Christopher, I think it's time for you to leave. I go, yeah, kick him out of your house. That's your house. That's not it. I'm working on that branch. It's like at WrestleMania when a match is going on and somebody comes in from the back and goes, oh my God. The Undertaker shows up. Undertaker's here. What a B word. The Undertaker? No, Emily. Oh, okay.
[00:21:48] Dan, you didn't get any redemption feels when Emily came out in the door and stood up for Lorelai. I will say this. Several people shared this in our socials and I'm thankful they did. The actor who plays Emily, now I can't think of her name on top of my head. Kelly Bishop? Kelly Bishop. She is on a book tour. She just wrote a book and someone asked her if she would ever hang out with Emily and she literally says, God, no, Emily Gilmore is reprehensible. Guys, I want to be very clear. My take isn't crazy here. You love the show you grew up with and that you're nostalgic for.
[00:22:18] The actor that played her knows she has no business. She's a monster. The actor knows it. They're like, let's stop. Let's stop with all the, like, let's dispense with all of this, like, notice that she's like good inside. She isn't. She's rotten to the core. Well, she stood up for her there. All I know is she's such a good actor. I actually got up and left my house. That's how good it informs you. Yeah. I was like, I'm out of here. This is crazy. There is one other one I want to bring up. Price feels. They're in Dosey's market. Jess and Rory are talking.
[00:22:47] All I could focus on was everything was like a dollar or less. And after I went grocery shopping recently, that looks like really good. 25 years ago, Chad, the minimum wage has gone up since then. It's not like everybody can't afford the new stuff now. True. True. Right. Yeah. It's gone up from $7.25 like $7.25. That was great, too. Skyrocketing. Dosey's is a small ma and pop market, which usually is higher than the big. That means like Milo's is going to be way cheaper. So actually, it's even better than we see there. Right. Right. Yeah, it was interesting.
[00:23:23] I loved the back and forth at Friday night dinner where Lorelai is reading the newspaper about the girl who killed her husband to stab her to death or whatever. And Emily goes, at least she had a husband to kill. Oh, Emily, you did it again. You scoundrel. You did it again. That's just light banter. We're having fun here. We love it. We love it.
[00:23:52] Dan, you didn't find that redeeming? No, believe it or not. As for Grace and Dig. Yeah. A little bit of a chuckle. Funny bit. A little bit. It was funny. Yeah. Yeah. Like if a villain is supposed to be a villain, then they're sometimes fun to love. That's the problem with Emily Gilmore is she's supposed to be a mom. She's not supposed to be a villain. Yeah. Like I love watching Heath Ledger as the Joker. I don't want to murder anyone by impaling them with a pencil. But I love watching him because we all know he's deplorable. Right. That's the whole bit. I told you. Yeah.
[00:24:22] Tony Soprano is an anti-hero. He's doing wrong things, but in his head he has right motivations. I don't think that Emily is an anti-hero. I think she's a villain. I have two, if you'll lend me the time. One is. Let's see how long the first one goes. Shout out Krispy Kreme very quick. Krispy Kreme making the cut as the donut of choice in Connecticut in 2002. They only moved up north in like 1997. Wow. So, I mean, Krispy Kreme already being the donut of choice up there. Shout out Krispy Kreme for doing its thing. Well, that's because they hadn't had a Racine Danish Kringle. Well, there is that. That's the pastry choice.
[00:24:52] Yeah, exactly. Had they had one of those, would have been no contest. Krispy Kreme or the Richard and Emily of pastries compared to Racine Danish Kringles. And I said it, and I'm not taking it back. Well, Krispy Kreme used to be homemade, but now they're across nationwide. And they kind of, some of the stores just have them there. These Racine Danish Kringles are coming from one facility. One. Homemade. Hand iced the whole bit. No question. What was that? Turn a Tuesday into a weekend. Yeah. Turn Tuesday into a weekend and get a story out of the... All of them are good, really.
[00:25:18] And then my second one is this is, Kirk doesn't make any sense here, but it's still Pete Kirk. He says this line, and I just, I rewound it to hear it a second time. By the way, I think you might be the most beautiful girl I've ever seen outside of a dirty magazine. Yes, I laughed at that one. That was great. Just Pete Kirk right there, guys. Come on. Every time I watch Kirk, I'm like, this shouldn't have worked, but it worked. No, it shouldn't. It would think that'd be a character that would annoy me, but he pulls it off.
[00:25:47] So I don't know if any other actor can do it. It is really good. Yeah, it's hard to write. It's hard to act and do those one-liners that just kind of come out of nowhere when he's, you know, it's really, he's awesome. What else has he been in? Is he in anything with bigger roles since then? I mean, he is James Gunn. James Gunn's brother. Yeah, so he's in Guardians of the Galaxy. He's in Guardians because of that, but not in a huge role. No. Okay. I think this is probably the biggest role. But he's a working actor.
[00:26:16] Like, he's still a, okay, cool. Good to know. You could still hire him for your job. Yep. For the movie you're making. Okay, good. All right, let's take a break. We'll come back. We will get to The Way What and The Written in Stars Hollow here on Gilmore the Marrier. Who, me? Yeah, believe it or not. Yeah, we're back. Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Gilmore the Marriott. It's great to be here today. We're talking about episode two of season three.
[00:26:47] It's time for The Way What. It's where we're talking about when this movie made us go, or this episode made us go, wait, what? I'll start with you. Chat. You know, I have one here in my notes that has like three stars on each side of it. And I wish I could interpret what I wrote because it really must have meant something to me at the time. Chris's entire, let's see if we can interpret it. Maybe the chat can help. Okay. Chris's entire me, Taylor, not realizing how he ended up there is a wait what?
[00:27:16] Chris's entire me, Taylor. Maybe his entire monologue? Me? Maybe realizing how he ended up there? So like me, like him, not. Chris's entire me, Taylor. I'm going to go with Chris's entire monologue, not realizing. Maybe everybody else doesn't realize that he was there because Emily talked to him. Could be. All right. Yeah. And I put stars around it. So I'm really bummed because it's stars.
[00:27:46] I just texted it to you guys just so you could see it in person too. And I'll move on. But it may, maybe it'll come to you during the, during the episode. We'll see. Or maybe like tonight at 3 a.m. You'd be like, oh, mention name or something. Chris's entire me, Taylor, not realizing how he ended up there is a wait what? No, you're right about that. Dude, all of his, all of his Taylors, his you, Taylor, his me, Taylor. They're all, they're all of the Taylors. Chris's entire me, Taylor. Me, Taylor.
[00:28:15] We should put out a coffee table book of all my bad notes. It would sell like gangbusters. Absolutely. His entire, I don't know. Mention it? I don't know. I started. And to be clear, you, this is typed. Oh yeah. Yeah. I type with like an old Hemingway style typewriter too. This is on paper. So it's wild. Chris's entire me, Taylor. Yeah. Yeah. Who knows? So anyway, did I type in one? Do you have any others that you can read? Oh yeah. Like this one. Okay. Here we go. Okay. First of all, I do have a wait, what?
[00:28:45] And maybe you have an answer. This is more of a question. Why did Rory cave to the puffs? And at the end given, was there anything other than intimidation for that? Like why did she? It was just a threat. But I will say, I do think what's interesting about that plot line is, is that she's threatening her. Like you're the one that can, can kind of be the Paris whisperer. But I think it's something Rory would do anyway. Right. Like Rory actually fighting for this little thing for them with the hymns of the skirts and like
[00:29:13] dress code would be something that she would do. And so it's weird that they feel as though they have to, like, what's the threat? It's a good way. What is what I'm saying? Like, if you don't do this, then I will. I don't know. I don't know what she'll do. I have no idea what she got. Yeah. That's why I didn't know why, you know, Rory's like, you know, fiercely independent, like her mom. Why would she cave? I don't know.
[00:29:35] I think the threat is that we will tell her that you were meeting with people behind her back in the bathroom. Oh, okay. And knowing Paris, like Paris is so easily, because she's so insecure. Easily convinced that everyone's against her. Yes. And so when you find out that your VP is meeting in the bathroom with people.
[00:30:02] Your VP that you put on the ticket because you knew people liked her so you could win the election. Yeah. That VP. Yes, that VP. Right. She should demand a loyalty test. I hear that works. So I do have one. Let me see. One other one. This is a wait. What? Lorelei on the last first day of high school for Emily, for Rory rather, Lorelei watched Rory sleep for about an hour and a half until she woke up. I mean, I know it's quirky, but it's a small house. You can hear her rustling. Yeah.
[00:30:31] That was a big, big wait while for me right there. Yeah. Oh, I do have one more question. Sorry, guys. One question. Sorry, I'm hopped up on Kringles right now. You know what I guess? I get it. Me, Taylor. You, Taylor. That's right. Did Emily actually invite Christopher in for that dinner? Did she mastermind that whole thing? I don't know. I don't know if she said, oh, you know what you should do? Come corner her at the dinner as much as like telling him to fight for her. At lunch, she definitely said she called him. Definitely called him. Yeah.
[00:31:01] Definitely, I believe, told him, hey, like, if you want her, you're going to have to fight for her, that type of thing, because he says, it's Friday night. I know where you would be. I feel like if knowing him and him knowing their relationship, I think he would have used that. I think he would have been like, Emily invited me. That's right. I think he would have done that. Right. Yeah, because he would think like you get on their property and like the hounds will come
[00:31:31] after you right away. I was shocked he just popped up. That was a wait what? Okay. Enough. Wait what? Me, Taylor, everything. You, Taylor, me, Taylor. I, Taylor. I, Taylor. I, every once in a while, I am struck by how insane it is what Suki does at this end. And in this episode, there's just a short conversation about a guest being vegetarian
[00:31:54] that night and how she was planning to make like beef stew or something with meat for that dinner. And just how crazy it is that this end makes, she is scheduling out different dinners every single night. Every once in a while, it just hits me. It's crazy. And in this episode, like this end has to cost so much money to go to if you are getting different
[00:32:22] dinners every single night. Really impressive stuff by Suki. No one, no one's better than Suki. And this episode ends with the argument that we were waiting to see happen in the first episode that we didn't get to see. The conversation between Rory and Jess. Yes. This is an argument. It is relatively loud. I have to imagine people could overhear this conversation, which makes the location of this meeting pretty crazy.
[00:32:49] Because they're having this argument at doses, which is the establishment that one Dean, at the very least, used to work at. And I have to imagine could get that job back if he wants to. Does no one that Dean worked with overhear this conversation and go, I got to call my guy up and tell him about what's happening?
[00:33:13] I just, I couldn't think of a worse place in town to have that particular argument. Because someone's going to overhear him, overhear that conversation and tell Dean. For sure. Because Dean worked there. Like that was Dean's job last season. So crazy to me that that's where they had that argument. They're known for it. Remember they wanted to have their secret tutoring session and they had it in the middle of town at Luke's Diner after hours of the lights off. They're just not good at this. They're not good at it.
[00:33:41] But also now that that scene happened, Jess, Dean and Christopher, all three of them have stormed up to the respective female that they are trying to woo and cornered them to speak to them in a way that's like they own them. That's exactly right. All three of them have. And it's like, maybe they all suck. I don't know. Maybe they all suck. Maybe that's not the way to handle that. I don't know if Jess cornered her. I mean, he's trying to keep her in front of him. Hmm.
[00:34:09] He, I mean, like, he's not as forceful as Dean and Christopher for sure. I'll go back and rewatch it. He's not. He's trying to keep. He wasn't trying to get out of that conversation. I mean, she's trying to move through the store and she's picking up stuff and she's trying to leave. I mean, like. Limited inventory. She's trying to shop. Those prices? To me, that was much more of a mutual argument. Okay. But I'll go back and rewatch. I mean, he finds her in the store and just goes right up to her. I thought they bumped into each other. Oh, I didn't think she wanted to have that conversation at all. Let's take it to the tape and go live on Instagram and solve this. I could be wrong.
[00:34:38] If I'm wrong, I'll tell you I'm wrong. No big deal. Get ready. Okay. Hey. You mentioned it. I'll get ready. You get ready. You fix it. Get ready. You mentioned in the synopsis, Kirk is the exterminator. We've already seen him. The first time we meet him, he's an exterminator. Why is he not the exterminator here? I guess it didn't fit in the plot of this episode. I don't know. That was weird. Lunch at 1 p.m. What are you? Are we in Spain? Are you kidding me right now? Lunch at 1 p.m.
[00:35:07] What are you trying to have an early dinner? Get out of here with a lunch at 1 p.m. Bran ate lunch two and a half hours ago. Are you kidding me right now? Also, one thing that does drive me crazy, and sitcoms do this all the time, which is they don't really care about character traits as much as putting characters in situations that they find funny. The Big Bang Theory would just be like, Sheldon has to take Penny to the hospital because she can't drive, and so he is driving too slow and blah, blah, blah.
[00:35:35] And then in the next season, Sheldon doesn't want to go in the hospital because he thinks it's dangerous or there are germs. Okay, well, in the previous season, he did. No problem. It drives me nuts when that is sacrificed for a plot. That's what happens with Emily here. For the last two seasons, if you know anything about Emily, you know that she is prompt. You know she's prompt. For Lorelai's graduation, she's, what, three hours early?
[00:36:04] With the film crew. Anytime she has to go anywhere, she's early. Every time. Even if Richard is late, she's there waiting. Every time without fail. So, Rory's thing happens, and Lorelai is there, and Emily scoots in. The second before it starts, and then she's supposed to be Lorelai for lunch, and she's not on time for that either. And listen, as someone that likes to be on time places, you're not on time everywhere. Sometimes you catch a bad break. I understand that.
[00:36:34] The fact that this character, after 50 episodes almost, would be late twice in one episode is not accurate to that character at all. That is not who that character is. She wants to hold it over you. That's a power play. That she's late. That's what it could be. Even for the bank, when Lorelai's going to have her co-sign, she's there 45 minutes early for the bank. It is a running theme of this show that Emily's going to be there before you are. That's her power move. That's it. It's not showing up late.
[00:37:04] And she's late twice here. That was pretty crazy. That's all I got. I went back and watched the tape, Dan. So it is a bump into a situation. He does do a thing where she tries to ignore him, and he puts the thing back, which stops her from walking. He tries to block her path. He does try to block her path. And the storming up, I was wrong on that.
[00:37:30] But I meant the idea that these men are talking forcefully, and they're trying to keep the women they're talking to physically in a space, pretty crazy. Pretty crazy that all three of them are doing that. And we're supposed to be pulling for any of them. Give me a fourth. Give me a fourth. Can we get a fourth? All right. Let's get to Ridin' the Stars Hollow. Chad, questions? Predictions? Oh, yeah. Whatever. I do. I do. I have two big ones and one smaller one.
[00:37:57] So first of all, when does Dean find out that Rory kissed Jess? It's got to happen. It's too good of a storyline, right? When? And it's going to be bad when it happens, but they're not letting it go. Imagine if it's Dosey that calls him up. Taylor being like, Dean, you won't believe what I just heard. Do you think that was, instead of me, Taylor, you think that was moment? Chris's entire moment, not realizing how he ended up there as a wait, what? Oh. Good. You speak Chad? I'm trying to.
[00:38:27] That could be. That's a good one. I still don't really understand the not knowing how he got there thing, but we don't know exactly how he got there. We don't know. But yes. Yes. Whether it's Emily Calder or not, maybe that's what I meant. Who knows? You know, I watch he's late, like 8 p.m. Yeah, 8 p.m. Oh, gosh. You're asking for it. Yeah, I'm half asleep. I also want to know, how much longer can Dean and Rory actually last at this point? This is crazy. It's fundamentally crazy. Like a eunuch. I mean, he's like totally.
[00:38:56] It's a eunuch. It's our first eunuch of the podcast. I tell you, he's like completely a shell of his former self. He's like, hi. Hi. Nice to see you. Like, he's got no edge anymore. He's milquetoast. He's insipid. He's just there and he shows up and he's all, hi, guys. And if she likes a bad boy, how long is she going to drag him along? I don't know. So not a little. The baddest boy is the one who doesn't get the hint and sticks along for the ride. Yeah, that's right. That's true. That's true. That's right.
[00:39:26] That's true. Mike, I did have one last one. Sure. Just because we finally see the puffs again, right? The puffs with the leader in the bathroom. I don't recall that we've seen them since the episode where they said they're such a huge secret organization. Sandra Day O'Connor, Supreme Court Justice was part of them. So what's going to happen? Does anything ever happen? Do these puffs do anything? Or maybe were they never initiated because they were busted at the first part? So I just want to know, do we see the puffs now take control?
[00:39:51] Is there a power struggle with Paris for control of the government in the high school? I don't know. Is there something there maybe? Really good. Really good. I had a question and I have to imagine that we will get an answer here. You guys might be able to help me. I just don't remember this from high school. Is the senior class president and the student body president different people? Yes, absolutely. At all schools? No, at my school it was.
[00:40:20] Every class had a president that when they were class meetings, the president of the class would conduct it. The student body president was in charge of that. And the student body president is not a senior. They can be or they cannot be. A student body president can be run, a sophomore could run for the following year or a junior could run. So Paris is a senior. Right. Yes. So there's two in the senior class. There's senior class president and then there's student body president. Student body president runs the whole student government. And then there's representatives from every class, including a class president for the senior class. I would just, I don't know.
[00:40:49] I don't remember that being the case at my school. But the fact that it happened at your school. And every school I've ever taught it. That just seems like overkill. Like the senior is top of the chain. But if you, one's got to be over the whole student body. So you still hear. But you're saying the seniors. Who's in charge of just the seniors and what they think? The senior. Senior. Would be the senior class president. Yes. You're asking the student body president to be in charge of ninth to twelfth. And the seniors is why you do that. Maybe I just have a don't.
[00:41:19] In my mind, they don't really do much. So it's like, it just seems like overkill. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the student body government has way more authority than I feel like they did in my mind. In my mind, it's like, it's just kind of a title. And you vote over like. In my school, they just voted. Yeah, did prom stuff. That's what they handle. Does student body government really do stuff? That matters? A body would definitely plan at least the fall fest and homecoming week activities.
[00:41:48] Now, getting the dress code changed? I don't think so, Tim. I don't think that's happening at Chilton. I don't think you're getting the dress code changed because the seniors want it. But the student body definitely has some performative duties. To me, though, it feels like student body president is the biggest of the girls. It is. Right? It is. And so I would like if I, I wouldn't even want to run for senior class president. Why would I want to do that if I can be the student body? It's because you can put it on your application.
[00:42:17] Well, maybe it's the runner up. Like they used to do, like when John Adams was president. The second was Thomas Jefferson. That's right. The second place was vice president. There you go. Maybe we should do that. Maybe we should do that. Are we going to do that for Gilmore the Marrier? Fran, I vote for you. Thank you. Dan? I have two. Two, one. Did they say where Richard was? No. It's just one of those episodes where he's out of town. They didn't tell you at all. Yeah. And I was hoping that would take longer because I can't, I had another one and I got sidetracked with student government and I can't remember it.
[00:42:47] And it's a really good one too. And I hit something. You didn't write it down? I didn't know. I didn't write it. I never write down this segment. This is just me thinking right when he says it's time for the segment. That's the beauty of going last. It was a really good one too. Dean. Was it me, Taylor, entire time how he got there? It was good. It could have been Taylor entire time. It was good. It could have been Taylor entire time. Could have been. I don't remember. Oh, well. Okay. Well, let's be done. We will. Come back next week. Okay? Come back next week.
