[00:00:37] We came in early on a Sunday to get started on the just massive collection of Christmas movies that have come out over the past four, five, whatever days, however long it's been happening. It doesn't matter. It's all a mush right now. But last night was the big one. Yeah, this movie finished eight hours ago. Yeah. And we gather our thoughts, which usually takes days and we were already recording this. So if Brian is a little bit off to this, we know what happened. Normally this was thoughts a little bit longer. It was his takes usually days.

[00:01:07] Usually you're somewhere in between. I liked it and I liked it. Yeah. So it's somewhere in that. And there's a big difference there that I have to sort out. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:01:14] We are talking about Holiday Touchdown Achieve's love story, of course, today to kick off the Thanksgiving week marathon that is going on.

[00:01:24] And we're going to cover them all, everybody. Yeah, we are.

[00:01:26] Every movie that's coming, including tomorrow. Tonight, Christmas Quest airs. You don't have to wait long for that either. We're going to be talking about that tomorrow.

[00:01:32] Yeah, and if you think we're doing these out of order because some movies aren't as important as others, you're right.

[00:01:39] This was a great movie to play Christmas movie magic to. Lots of fun Christmas traditions and whatnot.

[00:01:52] And then Santa's hat does come into play. No mistletoe, but a lot going on here.

[00:04:27] Originally aired on Hallmark Channel on November 30th, 2024, and it went a little something like this.

[00:04:32] The movie kicks off with Alana giving us the rundown on the history of her family.

[00:04:37] Her parents met after their parents got season tickets to Chiefs game.

[00:04:41] They became close friends, and over time they fell in love and kept up the tradition of having season tickets in the family.

[00:04:48] And eventually, Alana comes along, and she continues her tradition as well.

[00:04:54] They love the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL football team.

[00:04:59] Have you heard about football?

[00:05:00] Yeah, I've heard about the football.

[00:05:01] Sweeping the nation.

[00:05:03] Her family now runs a Chiefs store with a ton of Kansas City Chiefs memorabilia.

[00:05:11] Alana tells the family that next Tuesday someone special is coming.

[00:05:18] Santa!

[00:05:19] Santa's coming, everybody!

[00:05:21] I know him!

[00:05:23] They assume that it is a boy that she is bringing by, but she's like, no, no.

[00:05:29] We are finalists for the Fan of the Year Award, and if we win, it's going to be huge.

[00:05:35] And who is this person that is coming on Tuesday to help judge this event?

[00:05:39] It is Derek.

[00:05:40] He is one of the heads of fan engagement at the Kansas City Chiefs.

[00:05:45] Derek is relatively new to the organization and to Kansas City at large.

[00:05:49] His coworkers encourage him to go to Norma and Nick's to get some authentic Kansas City barbecue.

[00:05:56] He goes.

[00:05:58] Donna Kelsey is there running the register, as she does.

[00:06:01] And naturally, Alana's mom is there because...

[00:06:03] Nothing natural about that.

[00:06:04] Well, yeah.

[00:06:05] Alana's mom is also there.

[00:06:08] It is one of the...

[00:06:10] It's all in the family.

[00:06:11] It's all you need to know.

[00:06:12] And when Alana walks in, she sits Alana down at Derek's table and immediately starts playing matchmaker.

[00:06:18] They invite him to come to light the block.

[00:06:21] Light the block!

[00:06:23] Light the block.

[00:06:24] Which leads to him helping decorate, obviously.

[00:06:28] They spend the day talking and sharing Christmas tradition.

[00:06:31] Derek brings the mood down by explaining he doesn't have traditions, aside from the one where he would send Santa a change of address card.

[00:06:39] And you thought for sure that was coming back, but it didn't.

[00:06:43] After light of the block, he comes into the store and is blown away at their fandom.

[00:06:49] That's when they tell him about the magic hat.

[00:06:52] That's right, the magic hat.

[00:06:53] It is worn on Christmas Day.

[00:06:56] And if it's worn on Christmas Day, they will go to the Super Bowl.

[00:07:00] Grandpa was given the hat by a Santa Claus way back in 1969.

[00:07:04] And Santa said, if you wear this Christmas hat, if you wear this on Christmas Day, your Christmas wish will come true.

[00:07:10] That year, they won the Super Bowl.

[00:07:12] But uh-oh, Grandpa lost the hat.

[00:07:14] Lost the hat.

[00:07:14] Fast forward to 2019.

[00:07:16] Someone brings the hat into the shop to sell it.

[00:07:20] Turns out, same hat.

[00:07:21] They start wearing it again, and it still works.

[00:07:24] Super Bowl, they make it to the Super Bowl.

[00:07:27] They make it to the Super Bowl.

[00:07:28] It's not, it doesn't guarantee a victory.

[00:07:30] Yes, players gotta do something.

[00:07:31] But, it gets them there.

[00:07:33] Dare.

[00:07:34] Dare.

[00:07:34] Gets them dare.

[00:07:35] Speaking of dare, Derek.

[00:07:36] Oh, nicely done.

[00:07:38] Derek expresses his doubts about the magic of the hat.

[00:07:41] And the family gets very offended and sends him on his way.

[00:07:44] On my way.

[00:07:45] The next day, he finds out that he has to go check out this amazing Chiefs store.

[00:07:52] Because they're finalists for Fan of the Year.

[00:07:54] He is obviously shocked to find out that it is Alana's store.

[00:07:57] He walks in and Alana's like, no!

[00:08:00] You gotta leave!

[00:08:01] Someone important from the Chiefs is coming today.

[00:08:03] And he responds, it is I!

[00:08:06] Hi!

[00:08:07] I'm the problem!

[00:08:08] It's me!

[00:08:09] They show...

[00:08:10] Very nice.

[00:08:11] Thanks, everybody.

[00:08:12] Brands version.

[00:08:13] Smooth criminal.

[00:08:14] They show him...

[00:08:15] Did she...

[00:08:16] Another classic Taylor Swift film.

[00:08:19] They show him...

[00:08:22] They show him more of the store, but Alana is just ruthless and quizzes him on his knowledge

[00:08:26] of Chiefs history, to which he fails miserably.

[00:08:30] He leaves, but tells the other fan engagement folks about the hat, which they love, especially

[00:08:36] with the tie-in to Christmas.

[00:08:38] Derek keeps finding reasons to go back to spend more time with Alana, including hosting a Chiefs-themed

[00:08:44] gingerbread house competition at the barbecue restaurant.

[00:08:47] Duh.

[00:08:48] Of course.

[00:08:49] Yeah, of course.

[00:08:49] You know.

[00:08:50] One night, he goes to see one of the other finalists, a house that decorates with a Chiefs

[00:08:56] flair for Christmas.

[00:08:57] He goes for a walk and stumbles upon Alana's family, sitting out on the lawn drinking eggnog,

[00:09:03] as you do.

[00:09:04] So he comes and joins them.

[00:09:06] They end up singing Christmas song, and Alana and Derek begin to hold hands.

[00:09:10] It's the night of the celebration for the finalists, and he comes to pick her up.

[00:09:14] They go, and they have a great time.

[00:09:16] He shows her the empty stadium, and they go, and they sit down in her family's seats.

[00:09:20] And she shares that one year, they didn't wear the hat because Grandpa was in the hospital,

[00:09:25] and they learned about, you know, the importance of the family and whatnot, and it brought them

[00:09:30] all together.

[00:09:30] But, you know, didn't wear the hat.

[00:09:32] All that happens, and they end up kissing.

[00:09:36] Also, Hallmark bought a drone.

[00:09:39] They spent the evening walking through a Christmas festival, and the evening ends with another

[00:09:46] kiss.

[00:09:46] That's right.

[00:09:47] They get big news.

[00:09:48] They win the contest.

[00:09:52] They're all going to be on the sidelines for the big Christmas Day game, and it turns out

[00:09:56] that that game is a must-win game.

[00:09:59] It's Christmas Day.

[00:10:00] Wear the hat.

[00:10:01] Gotta do it.

[00:10:02] She is at this chief's event and has the hat on display, and suddenly the hat goes missing.

[00:10:10] She's freaking out.

[00:10:11] What can you do?

[00:10:12] He brings over a surprise, though, you know, to the family get-together.

[00:10:19] He got the original two seats where everything started in this tradition.

[00:10:24] It's very sweet.

[00:10:25] I tear up.

[00:10:26] Dan?

[00:10:27] He tears up.

[00:10:30] You seem so sad about it, too, about the-

[00:10:32] When you group me with you, it does make me sad.

[00:10:35] Yeah, that's fair.

[00:10:36] That's fair.

[00:10:37] It's at this party that it comes out that the hat is missing.

[00:10:41] The family is really understanding, though.

[00:10:43] She keeps thinking that it's going to show up, fate and all that, but it doesn't, which

[00:10:47] leads to a big argument with Derek because she thinks that the hat going missing is a sign

[00:10:53] that they shouldn't be together.

[00:10:54] The day of the game finally comes, also known as Christmas Day.

[00:10:58] Yeah.

[00:10:59] Kind of takes a back burner to the game.

[00:11:01] Of course.

[00:11:01] And the family is going to be honored at the game, and she isn't sure if she's going

[00:11:07] to come because she feels so guilty about the hat.

[00:11:10] Finally, after some good advice and all that good stuff and sitting with it for a little

[00:11:15] bit, she decides that she wants to join the family.

[00:11:17] Just as Derek is coming to go to get her, to beg her to come, she comes to her senses.

[00:11:23] He surprises her by giving everybody in the stadium a replica of the hat.

[00:11:28] It's very sweet.

[00:11:30] They kiss.

[00:11:31] The crowd cheers.

[00:11:32] They go back to their normal seats because it's where they belong.

[00:11:36] Their words, not mine.

[00:11:38] To watch the game, the Magic Santa returns and gives the hat back to the family.

[00:11:47] We don't know if they win, but we're winners.

[00:11:50] And now my friends win.

[00:16:40] And there are the occasional time where, as somebody who not only doesn't care about the Chiefs,

[00:16:47] I also don't really care about football, where that kind of was like, you know, I don't care about these old Chiefs players.

[00:16:52] But it's nice.

[00:16:53] You know, I see it.

[00:16:54] I'm like, that's nice.

[00:16:55] That's nice that that happened.

[00:16:57] Sure.

[00:16:57] But I love the story.

[00:17:01] The story is so good.

[00:17:03] To your point, the ensemble is wonderful.

[00:17:05] I teared up.

[00:17:07] It's beautiful.

[00:17:08] It's funny.

[00:17:09] And I think my only concern is if you are somebody who not only doesn't like sports but doesn't know anybody who really likes sports,

[00:17:20] this story of somebody who believes so wholeheartedly about a magic hat helping bring a team to the Super Bowl,

[00:17:29] you could look at that and be like, that's silly.

[00:17:31] But we all know people.

[00:17:33] We all know people that that's their thing.

[00:17:36] Like, I'm kind of that way.

[00:17:39] Like, if I got a hat and I wore it on Christmas Day and my team wore the Super Bowl,

[00:17:44] I'd give it a shot the next year.

[00:17:46] And if it happens again, are you kidding me right now?

[00:18:28] And I think whether you're somebody who's a massive football fan or a massive Hallmark fan or a massive sports fan,

[00:18:36] it doesn't matter which of those camps you lie in.

[00:18:38] This movie is a really good meeting place for everybody.

[00:18:43] It's a great – it's the perfect Saturday after Thanksgiving movie because it is one of these movies where you can turn on the family and turn it on with the family.

[00:18:50] And everybody, I think, will have a good time.

[00:18:53] Perfect Hallmark Christmas movie.

[00:18:55] And it's a perfect 10.

[00:18:57] It's a perfect 10 for Bran.

[00:19:11] But this movie establishes that it is, in fact, a magic hat.

[00:19:15] They don't tell you that these people are crazy superstitious.

[00:19:19] They go to the painstaking detail like they do in a real – like a Hallmark Christmas movie that isn't about sports where there's a magic Santa who's making things happen.

[00:19:28] This is, in fact, a magic hat.

[00:19:30] It is not a – like they are superstitious about it, but at the end of the movie we find out Santa –

[00:19:35] It is at the very least a hat from a magic Santa.

[00:19:38] That's right.

[00:19:39] Yes.

[00:19:39] That clearly is given to them whenever they need it most.

[00:19:44] Listen, guys.

[00:19:46] Ed Begley Jr., who hasn't been mentioned yet, is – protect him at all costs.

[00:19:54] If you think – I would disagree that all ensembles work, but an ensemble with this amount of talent in it, oh, my gosh.

[00:20:56] And then Julie Sherman Wolf, the writing is amazing for this movie.

[00:21:00] This is a very typical traditional Hallmark movie.

[00:21:04] I love what they've done here.

[00:21:05] They took advantage of the Chiefs being in the spotlight around the world and they used it to their advantage.

[00:21:12] There is a little bit of a stunt cast with Donna Kelsey, but the rest of this movie works as a movie that is a Hallmark Christmas movie.

[00:21:20] I can't tell you how good this movie is, especially compared to what we've seen so far.

[00:21:26] I don't know if it reaches the upper echelons of, like, a Round and Round or a Ghost of Christmas always.

[00:21:31] But so far this year, it's the best – oh, my goodness.

[00:21:35] I don't know who could come to this movie and not enjoy it.

[00:21:39] It is a really, really good time.

[00:21:40] And with all of the fanfare and all of the promotion that this movie had for it to deliver, it's even more impressive.

[00:22:40] I used to listen to a lot of sports talk radio at Sports Hub in Boston.

[00:23:15] And that was sort of like a signal of the rest of the movie, the way that they did sports in this movie.

[00:23:48] And it's like this really sweet, like I'm the little things you miss about someone when they're gone.

[00:23:55] The little things that you don't really think about while someone's with you and then they're gone and you go in there.

[00:24:04] And it was such a little throwaway moment.

[00:24:08] And they kept coming back to the bit.

[00:24:10] But just that line, it just I was like, oh, we're in for it now.

[00:25:07] And that is something that you see a lot in Hallmark.

[00:25:09] It's never something that's done as well as it was done in this movie.

[00:25:12] Like it brought the reason that scene really just like whenever I like my kids are amazing,

[00:25:18] but I always think that my grandfather, who's one of my heroes, would have just gotten the

[00:25:22] biggest kick out of my kids.

[00:25:24] Like he would have thought they were just I mean, like and I thinking about that is like

[00:25:31] something that brings me great joy.

[00:25:32] It should bring me great sadness.

[00:25:34] But thinking about what could have been because I did get to experience my grandfather and

[00:25:38] hopefully and my kids have gotten to experience their grandfather.

[00:25:40] That's awesome.

[00:25:41] And and I think Ed Begley does this in such a way that's like the memories were there for

[00:25:46] me.

[00:25:47] They were great when they're happened.

[00:25:48] And you're great now as my granddaughter and you continue to do that.

[00:38:55] I remember Julie Shermer Wolf, who I talked to, we were doing Hallmark movie drafts and she said that after Tyler and Hunter made that little fake trailer, that got the ball rolling and she got contact and had to write the draft pretty quickly.

[00:39:09] But they didn't start working on this until after that.

[00:39:12] I don't think any of it until after that.

[00:39:13] But that short was still.

[00:39:15] It wasn't Hunter, it was somebody else.

[00:39:16] That short was still sanctioned though.

[00:39:49] In this movie, they explain the playoff scenarios for the Chiefs.

[00:39:51] And one of them is if the Dolphins win, that makes it tougher on the Chiefs to get in the playoffs.

[00:39:58] As you know, I'm a longtime Dolphins fan.

[00:40:00] They haven't won a playoff game in 23 years.

[00:40:01] So I did reach out to Julie and say, Julie, I really just have one question.

[00:40:08] Did the Dolphins make the playoffs?

[00:40:10] Like that's what's important to me.

[00:40:11] Yeah.

[00:40:12] It's it's not anything else.

[00:40:13] And she not only confirmed that the Dolphins made the playoffs, they also made it to the AFC championship game, which that means I think that she did make the Super Bowl.

[00:40:24] Also, the Dolphins made the playoffs and they won a playoff game first time in 23 years.

[00:40:28] So this is big.

[00:40:28] So it definitely is an alternate universe.

[00:40:31] And so that's confirmed.

[00:40:33] So both of ours in a sense are confirmed.

[00:40:35] Whatever it takes, whatever universe it is, go go Fins up, everybody.
