BRAN’S HOPE VALLEY: 1874 (SEASON 1 EPISODE 8) SYNOPSIS

The British fella, Mr. Maxwell, comes downstairs and when Rebecca questions where he came from, he gets weird and decides to take his breakfast up to his room.

The prospectors are in a bit of a frenzy - gold nuggets are going missing at an alarming rate.

Tom comes in and starts to help with the decorating for the party. When Rebecca sees a picture of her husband, she starts to be a little less warm to Tom and he notices.

Suddenly, a bunch of the prospectors come into the boarding house looking for Alexander. They want to report the missing gold.

Tom meets with a guy who wants to sell him his land. Tom is ready to expand.

Rebecca notices that her ring is missing. Where are all these things going?!?!?!

Rebecca begins to suspect that Mr. Maxwell is up to no good.

He goes to leave one night and Rebecca decides to follow him. Naturally, Tom is like oh I'm so in.

Doyal brings a good bit of gold into Hattie's to cash out. Naturally she becomes a bit suspicious of him. Perhaps he's the gold thief.

Tom and Rebecca track Mr. Maxwell into the woods and find this weird dirty area that it appears he's using to mark something. BUT WHAT?!

Rebecca, feeling the chemistry with Tom, tells him I don't know how to move on without letting go of the past and she doesn't know how to let go. He says he understands.

The next day, Rebecca once again goes into Mr. Maxwell's room and starts snooping through his bag. When he gets back, she asks him to open his bag. There's a ton of rocks in there, but nothing stolen. She's like well you're not looking for gold, what are you looking for? He tells her coal.

Alexander and Tom go to look for the guy that was caught trying to steal gold from one of the prospectors. They stop him - it's Jeremiah, one of the guys who left working with Tom to prospect. He was selling stuff and sending that money to his fiancée. He's also sold Rebecca's ring. So Tom goes to try to get it back.

It's party time! Tom and Alexander show up with the good and bad news. They're all shocked. Tom tells them all that Jeremiah is going to work for him and they'll all get their money back from his wages. Alexander then returns Rebecca's ring that they were able to retrieve. Tom told him not to tell her that it was him that paid to get it back.

Alexander and Olivia dance together just as Clayton walks in. She tells Alexander about the school. He tells her that she has to go. Clayton comes to cut in. She tells him and he's like you can't go. But if you do, please come back.

Rebecca finds out that Tom is no longer buying that land. Apparently he's a little short on cash.

Doyal tells Tom that he bought the land. He's bummed. So Rebecca goes to dance with him. She asks if he gave up the land for her. She tells him that she's gonna hold onto it for a little while longer and then eventually pass it on to Sarah. He tells her to let it go when she's ready.

The episode ends with another mountie coming into the party. He tells Alexander that he's here to arrest Rebecca, for being a thief. Alexander does it and she yells at Tom to protect Sarah.

[00:00:04] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast. Hi, I'm Brian and I love Hope Valley 1874. Hi, I'm Dan and I like Hope Valley 1874. I'm Dan and I despise Hope Valley 1874. I'm a liar and this is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast. Deck The Hallmark gets this podcast.

[00:00:33] And friends host this podcast. We hope you like this jolly podcast. Oh boy. Well, we did it, folks. Yeah, we did. We did it. It's exciting. Some are saying that- Many. Many. Many are saying. That what we accomplished here- Here? Is going to be written about. One of the biggest feats in podcasting history. Yeah, I think so. Covered an eight episode spinoff for streaming only.

[00:01:03] Yeah. That's exactly right. The big show. It's the big show, everybody. Someone had to do it. Yeah, man. Someone had to do it. Somebody had to do it. Yeah. Dan, so a lot of people are excited about your upcoming bi-weekly news podcast that you're going to be doing with us. I am too. I am so very excited. Where you bring us, you remember, you bring us the hard-hitting- Made for TV news.

[00:01:32] And is that bi-weekly, as in twice a week or once every two weeks? Once every two weeks. Once every two weeks. Yeah. Either way, I'm in. Yeah. Well, you were yes, Annie, regardless. I was yes, Annie, yes. You would be in for a twice a week made for TV news podcast. I love Jax's just willingness to- Jax, we're really excited about you shaving your head for this new project you landed. Yes. I can't wait.

[00:01:55] I, you know, I got made fun of relentlessly when I cut and dyed and trimmed my hair. By who? By who? By who? By who? By who? By who? By who? I will say, one of them in particular still sends me messages on Facebook. Oh my God. Oh, interesting.

[00:02:24] And I don't think he has pure intentions and I love it. Oh. I love it. Yeah. Do you ever respond back? No. No. I don't. Well, no, I respond back like very like, like I don't get it. Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Like, yeah, like, oh yeah, no, I hope you're doing well. Like that kind of thing. Not like, I don't take the baits. That's right. And it feels so good. How about that? Take that football player from Mark Carmel. That's right. Mount Carmel. That's right.

[00:02:53] Junior, senior, high school. No chance. But I would shave my head. You would shave your head. What would be the, like, any, like, if, if, like, but like, you'd have to be a major where you wouldn't shave your head to be like in one episode of Wind Calls the Heart. Oh, no, I would not. No. But like, what about for a video for Bramble Fest? Oh, um, honestly, I don't know if I could do that. Okay. What if, how about this?

[00:03:23] Let me ask you this. This is a real question. You get cast, you know how like Charlize Theron is like a badass in all these movies where she can just, like, you get cast in a movie where Charlize, this new Charlize Theron action movie, and you're working alongside Charlize, right? Yes. And you don't have to do all the stunts she does because she's like been training for years and years. Yes. But she's shaving her head for it. Yes. She's going to shave her head for it. Yes. And you don't have to, but it's encouraged. Does she want me to?

[00:03:51] She, it's, it's, she, she's not said you have to, but she is, you could wear a bald cap. You could wear one, but she is shaving her head. You shaving your head too? Wait, sorry. I'm just going to ask two follow-ups. Yeah. Are we hanging out the whole time? And am I in the movie or am I just like shattering? No, you're in the movie. You, you, you, but you're like five on the call sheet, right? So you're like in the movie. I thought her so much. I could absolutely do that.

[00:04:20] But what if Charlize wants you to, but the director's not sold on. What? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Oh, that's me. This does, the plot does thickets. That's right. If Charlie, well, but she's probably also an EP on this movie. She's going to be an EP for sure. Yeah. So then I'll just be like, I'll talk to the director and I'll be like, I think we've got to do what Charlize wants. Yeah. We want to make the star happy. Did you guys see the new Charlize movie on Netflix? Apex? I didn't see it. Taron Egerton? Is it good?

[00:04:48] No, I actually was just about to watch it last night. Is it good? It's okay. It's okay. It seems like a lot of those Netflix ones are. It's okay. But she's great. And then Taron's going for it in Netflix. Yeah. Shout out to Netflix, which I never say this. Shout out to Netflix for, they have Greta Gerwig directing a new Narnia movie, which where Meryl Streep is Aslan and I'm like freaking out and they are giving it a full IMAX run. Wow. They actually are? They're not doing a two week Knives Out Boy.

[00:05:18] Like literally. No, no, no. They can't do a two week Knives Out Boy. It's going to come out in February or March next year in theaters for two months before it's on Netflix. Wow. That is incredible. I'm so excited. How about that? Shout out. Sorry. No, this isn't Charlize there on podcast, but I just have to ask for anyone else out there. Has anyone seen Young Adult? Yeah. Movie Rules. Oh my gosh. That scene where she is on the lawn and she did that in, I think it was like a one take baby. Oh, she's so good.

[00:05:47] Charlize Theron is too good of an actor. Her, the breadth of work. And that's a Jason Reitman movie. The guy that did up in the air, which you've now seen. Yeah. Young Adult's a tough watch sometimes, but like in the best way, like it's a really hard watch. But at the end then when she says to the girl about, you know, the girl wants to go to the city with her and she's like, you're good here. And it's so, I mean, just everything about it. I just love her. So I would shave my head if anyone listening knows Charlize.

[00:06:16] I mean, she's a very specific scenario, but I appreciate it. We got to the bottom of it. Yeah. We got to prepare. Someone had to do it. Somebody told somebody email me a bad Charlize Theron performance. I'm serious. I'm not like if there is one, I'd love to. I mean, like she's, she's just unbelievable. I mean, unbelievable. Monster, atomic blonde, young adults. Great. Cross the board. I love her so much. You know what else is incredible? Hope Valley 1874. That is also good. Episode eight. What's it called? What's it called?

[00:06:46] There is hope in the valley. We found it. That's a long title. That's a long title. Jax, what's this one called? Coal, coal, coal. Oh man. No, it's all that glitters. Is coal. Is coal or gold or whatever. Oh, that's true. Uh, shall we dive in? Let's do it. Uh, it went a little something like this.

[00:07:10] Uh, this British fella, Mr. Maxwell comes downstairs and when Rebecca questions where he came from, where'd he go? Is he caught? Not Joe. Uh, he gets weird and he decides to take his breakfast up to his room. The prospectors are in a bit of a frenzy. See gold nuggets are going missing at an alarming rate. Yes. That's not good. Tom comes in and starts to help with the decorating of the party.

[00:07:34] And when Rebecca sees a picture of her old husband, she starts to be a little less warm to Tom and he notices that. Suddenly a bunch of prospectors come into the boarding house looking for Alexander. They want to report the missing gold. I want to know where the gold is. Uh, but it could be great. But Alexander is, he's bringing the guy to the jail in the other town.

[00:08:00] Uh, Tom meets with a guy who wants to sell him his land. And Tom is ready to expand. He's got the money to do it. Rebecca notices that her ring is missing. Where are all of these things going and who's taking it? Rebecca begins to suspect that Mr. Maxwell is up to no good. He goes to leave one night and Rebecca decides to follow him. Naturally, Tom is like, oh, I'm in. I love following people.

[00:08:28] Uh, Doyle brings a good bit of gold into Hatties to cash out. Naturally, she becomes a bit suspicious of him. Where's he getting all this gold? Perhaps he's the thief. Tom and Rebecca track Mr. Maxwell into the woods, into the woods to see the things and do the stuff and do the things. Uh, and finds a weird like dirt area that appears to be like, he's using it to mark something. But what is it?

[00:08:55] Rebecca, uh, feeling the chemistry with Tom tells them, I don't know how to move on without letting go of the past. And I'm not ready to let go of it yet. He says that he understands the next day. Rebecca, uh, once again, goes into Mr. Maxwell's room and starts snooping around his bag, finds a, uh, a map with like markings on it and whatnot.

[00:09:21] And when he finally gets back, she's like, let me see the inside of your bag. Okay. There's a ton of rocks in there. Uh, it turns out he's not looking for gold at all. He's looking for coal. Oh, coal, coal, coal. That's the name of the episode. Coal Valley. Yeah. Uh, Alexander and Tom go to look for the guy that was caught trying to steal gold from one of the prospectors. They stop him. Turns out it's Jeremiah.

[00:09:47] He was a bullfrog and a friend of Tom's used to work with Tom. And then he left to be the prospector. He was selling stuff and sending that money to his fiance. He also admits that he sold Rebecca's ring. So Tom goes to try to get it back. It's party time, folks. The brand, the grand opening of the boarding houses here. Tom and Alexander show up with the good news and the bad news. They're all shocked.

[00:10:14] Tom says that, uh, Jeremiah is going to work for him and all the money that would have been his wages is going to go to the prospectors that he stole the gold from because he kept a very detailed ledger of what he stole. So that's good. Uh, Alexander then returns Rebecca's ring that, uh, they were able to retrieve. Tom told him not to tell her that it was him that paid to get it back. It was just complicated.

[00:10:40] Uh, Alexander and Olivia dance together just as Clayton walks in. She tells Alexander about the school in Toronto. He tells her that she has to go. Clayton comes in to cut in and, uh, she tells him and he's like, you can't go. But if you do, please come back. Rebecca finds out that Tom is no longer buying the land. Apparently he's a little short on cash.

[00:11:10] I wonder why. Doyle tells Tom that he bought the land. He's good. They're going to be neighbors. Neighbor. He's bummed. And so Rebecca goes to dance with him. She asked if he gave up the land for her. She tells him that she's going to hold on to the ring a little while longer and then eventually pass it on to Sarah. And he tells her to let it go when she's ready. The episode ends with another Mountie coming into the party.

[00:11:38] He tells Alexander that he is there to arrest somebody who is that somebody. It is Rebecca. Oh, Rebecca's a thief. Alexander does the arresting and she tells Tom to protect Sarah. And that my friends was Hope Valley 1874 season one episode eight. All that glitters is cold. No, that wasn't the real one. She said cold, cold, cold and I thought it was the real title. No, it's all that glitters. All that glitters is cold. Sorry, cold, cold, cold. Well, it's a good title.

[00:12:07] All right, let's take a break. We'll come back. We will break this episode down here on Deck the Hallmark. Everybody, welcome back. We're talking about Hope Valley 1874. This is it. This is the one finale. Possibly last episode ever. As far as I know, it hasn't been renewed.

[00:12:33] If only there was a biweekly news program that would tell us if it got renewed. Don't you worry. We're going to take care of that for you, boy. All right. Let's get to the hot take. Yeah, I'm okay. It's just exciting just to think about, you know, and now let's get to the hot take as we're sure exactly what we felt about this episode. I'll start with you, Jax. Jax, what'd you think season finale? This was a great finale. It was action packed. I had a great time.

[00:13:00] We had some unexpected surprises. Some for me reversals in there. Like, okay, I thought that we were going with Alexander, but I should know better. I should know better. There's always going to be a reversal with the love triangle here. And then here Clayton is like professing his undying love to Olivia. But honestly, that was exciting. I'm loving what's happening there.

[00:13:23] The whole debacle with the ring and then Benjamin Ayers getting it back, Rebecca getting arrested. Like this is truly, there was a point where I wasn't sure where in the episode I was. It was like maybe like five or six minutes from the end. And like the scene ends like just on Rebecca's face. And I think like Dan was alluding to in previous episodes, we have PTSD from certain episodes of When Calls the Heart that I thought that was going to be the season finale. Yeah.

[00:13:53] Yeah. And I was like, okay, this, it just kind of ends like not with a bang, but with a whimper. Yep. And then we have the arrest, which I am here for. And it's exciting. Give me season two. I'm intrigued. Yeah. We, you know, we don't get a kiss from either of the prospective couples, but that's okay. You know, I felt like the conversations that Rebecca had with Tom basically in so many words being like, I'm not ready yet. Yeah.

[00:14:23] The ring is very symbolic. I'm not ready yet, but I will be. Yeah. And he, you know, being cool about that, being chill, you know, classic Tom. And then, you know, the giving up the, of the, the, the money that he was going to use for the land to get back the ring. It's all very, very nice. So yeah, this was a good episode, a good, good finale setting up good intrigue for season two. But if I've learned one thing from when calls the heart, it's that it won't matter, dude.

[00:14:52] I'm just the way that this episode is. They don't come back. It won't matter. She'll be let go. And, and then we'll never speak of it again. So that's, you know, a fear for sure. That's, that's literally my, my Valley, but, but, you know, this was a good, a good way to wrap this season up. Lots of intrigue heading into season two. We'll see if we get one, Dana. This is a 10 of 10 finale, unless the show is not renewed. Um, it would be a re this is a massive swing.

[00:15:21] If they're not pretty confident in renewal. Uh, and I think we can all safely say that like this show is very rich in character. It's established itself very well. We care about the characters for them to end with this uncertainty is a plus for me. Great ending. Uh, there's only two ways to ruin that. One is, is if they don't get renewed and two would be my Valley, which you already spoke of, which we'll talk about more later for sure. But as it stands, assuming renewal, Hey, let's be positive out here.

[00:15:51] If they can renew when calls the heart for a thousand seasons, they can give us a second season of good television, or maybe they can't. I don't know. But I can season of chicken sisters. And we didn't think that's what I think they'll get. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and this and chicken sisters probably qualitatively better than this, but this show has more legs from a standpoint of a hallmark audience. I think anyway, um, how is this good television? Uh, number one, uh, the ending where she gets arrested. I think it's a great ending.

[00:16:16] Second of all, you have to like, you have a love triangle and you have, uh, Tom and Rebecca. I think both of those are great. You know, what us wanting a specific outcome. I still think I'll switch to a little bit more later, but I still think there's some possible chemistry with Alexander and Rebecca, but that's neither here nor there. Uh, you also get, I think the big movement of this episode that is not Rebecca.

[00:16:39] So obviously Rebecca, the literal movement of her out there with her daughter, the establishment of her presence in what will be Hope Valley. All of that's clearly the a line here, but Tom realizing that his way is not the only way to live life and do things is pretty great character growth for him to get to a point where he's like, uh, when people do something that I think is wrong, I can maybe empathize with them.

[00:17:06] Whether it be Jeremiah, whether it be the miners, uh, him realizing that a lot of his assumptions are wrong about people. I thought was really, really good. I mean, listen, a lot of people have a lot of baked in preconceived notions about others right now, and that isn't necessarily their fault, but it is their responsibility to fail forward to fix them. And so watching Tom do that, I don't know, a hundred plus years ahead of his time, I think is really good television. Well, and the miners are under 18. And so there's still like a lot of-

[00:17:36] Different miner, different miner, different miner. Uh, the, uh, uh, but I think Tom's progression, the Tom Rebecca line, the Olivia Clayton Alexander storyline, had he's a great character, baby Ned, the miners. I love Doyle buying the land. I like a lot of what they're doing here. Um, the only way this doesn't work is if this is the last episode of this show we, we cover.

[00:18:00] And then I'm going to like, if you don't feel at least 75% sure of a cancel or of a renewal, you should not hear this episode of television. I don't think you're doing right by the viewers. That's the only way I would have an issue with this. In my opinion is if you think renewal is very likely, then you put this out there. If you don't, it's just not really fair, but I loved it. Great episode. All right. Fair enough. Uh, let's get to all the feels. Okay. Jax, what in this episode gave us you? I had many a feel. Okay. Hattie and Doyle.

[00:18:31] Okay. Wow. Okay. Interesting. When she's way in the gold and look, I, I'm going to, I'm going to say it right now. Doyle is a sexy man. Oh, wow. Okay. All right. You heard it here. Yeah. Maybe not first. This is definitely first on this podcast. I don't think not once we've said some great things about Ben Ayers. I've not once heard. Well, I think, I think we're missing out.

[00:19:01] I think, I think he's, he's really handsome. And should we do a ranking episode of the guy? Yeah. He's probably first for me right now. All right. Well, even when he was, she's like, Oh, I guess some men have all the luck. And he's like, some of us make our own. And I was like, Oh, okay, daddy. Um, so I did not pick up on any, uh, chemistry of that. I thought that she was suspicious of him.

[00:19:28] I thought he was, she was too, but I'm here for this take. I mean, what a great. I hear you. I hear you. But like, again, And have chemistry is what you're saying. Yep. That's absolutely what I'm saying. I'm here. And I think he was like a little charmed by her. Like, I do think there's like something there. Um, I will say, huh, Olivia and Alexander and Clayton, all of that were big feels like Alexander telling her to go because he cares about her.

[00:19:58] Like, that's why he's doing it. And he wants her to reach her full potential. Clayton saying, Oh, I don't know if I have the right to say this, but I want you to stay like all of that was hitting for me. And honestly, I don't even know who to root for at this point. Um, maybe they can just have an unconventional arrangement, but probably not. Probably not. That's a lot to ask for. Um, in the year of our Lord, 2026 on Hallmark, much less 1874. That is a lot to ask for. That is a lot to ask for.

[00:20:27] Um, and then finally, when Rebecca puts her head on Tom's chest when they're dancing better than a kiss for me, I thought it was so lovely and such an intimate moment and just really, really beautiful. That was really good. Uh, yeah, that the, the ending of this episode, great. I didn't see it coming. I did not see her getting arrested coming and I'm very intrigued to see what happens. So good on the show, Dana. Good on the show. Uh, I think two for me, number one, Gus chickens is my favorite. I don't know his real name.

[00:20:57] He's wearing, look up Gus chickens, the SNL character by Will Ferrell, this old prospector whose gold is stolen is Gus chickens. And every time he talks, it makes down to the flat hat and the, the, it's hilarious. Um, so that one I think was, you know, just like for funsies, obviously, but also I, I just think that the, the end of this, I'm with you. The end of this really, really worked for me. So there you go. There you go. Uh, obviously Doyle, what a man, am I right?

[00:21:28] Uh, he's on the, the hot, the hot meter, the hot meter. The hot meter. Uh, all right, let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll get to the, uh, the way, what, and the hopes and valleys here on deck. The hallmark. Hi everybody. Welcome back. We're talking about hope Valley, 1874 season one finale. So wait, what is where we're talking about? What in this episode? Let's go away. What?

[00:21:57] I'll start with you, Jack's two things. So I, I, I get that this is what makes the TV show, but still from a character perspective, I have to say, this is like the third episode in which Rebecca has done something that is really putting herself in danger that she doesn't really have to do. That makes me worried for her daughter who Mila Morgan. I have to say just doing incredible work. Amazing in this. Yes. Really, really phenomenal. Like she's a fantastic actress.

[00:22:26] So I just want to give her a big shout out. So yes, um, her going off in the middle of the night to, to look after our British friend and those things I just find questionable. And then the other big one for me was when Olivia is looking for, now look, the actress pulled it off. She pulled it off. She had no business pulling it off, but she did. But the, the line of, you know, she's looking for her sign and then he says to her, like, um, Alexander says to Olivia, you know, you need to go.

[00:22:56] And she's like, there's my sign. I was like, uh, really? That sounds right. Because this guy that you're not even dating is encouraging you to go and pursue your dreams. And you're saying that's my sign because he doesn't want me. Like, it's not like he has a new girlfriend even, you know what I mean? And that would be your sign even if he did.

[00:23:17] Like, all of that didn't make sense to me, especially from a woman as like grounded and smart as Olivia. I thought, I just thought it was dumb. I hated it. I hated that so much. That's fair. That's fair. And like, she also sneaking in the rooms. Like she's doing something. She's up to no good. Wait, what? Who's sneaking? Rebecca's sneaking in the rooms, not Olivia. Oh, so we're back to that. Sorry. He, Grant just checked out of what I was saying.

[00:23:47] He still thought I was on it. He's like, okay, wait, she's still talking. No, no, but no, no, no. Honestly, I do hear you. She's classic brand. She is sneaking in the rooms. And that is, I don't want you, I don't want to think that I was, then I had a mental image of her laying in Alexander's bed. Yeah. Yeah. Well, who knows? We don't know. I feel like it's too much blue. I, I, I, I got the blue walls with the blue curtains things that she's putting up. Uh, there's a lot of blue. It's a theme, man.

[00:24:16] Well, let's just diversify. Diversify the theme. Yeah. Let's just diversify the theme. And it just seemed like a lot of blue is all I'm saying. Maybe they got a discount on blue. Maybe blue is out. Yes. Blue's out. And we got it. So now everything's blue. I don't know. Um, I'm also like, it's interesting to see the, uh, boarding house because we know what it looks like as the saloon and boarding house. And like, there's like, eventually there's going to be a bar put in there and whatnot.

[00:24:45] So, uh, it's interesting to see it's all as it is now, which is pretty open. Uh, Dano. Uh, yeah. So, um, when the guy is Jeremiah is the one that steals the gold. That's right. Uh, when dude realizes his gold has been stolen, the guy takes off full speed Jeremiah on horseback with the gold.

[00:25:07] Five minutes later, this dude comes up to Alexander and to Tom and goes, somebody stole my gold. He's on a brown horse and he's got at least a five minute head start and he's headed in any direction and they catch him. And that's either the worst thief in the history of thievery in 1874, or those horses are against the law. They're so fast that this guy should have been long gone with this gold.

[00:25:37] Like he's been successfully going to James James town. Where's he going? He said, not Buxton. He's going to this post and selling all this stuff. How did he not make it with that much of a head start? Like nobody knows where he's going, but him like be better at stealing things is all I'm saying. You know what I mean? Be better at being bad.

[00:25:58] Um, also this either brand you get one of two, either the land Tom was going to buy is dirt cheap or this ring is crazy expensive. Yes. Like insane expensive. And I don't know which it is, but you know, I understand jewelry is probably a little bit less common, not a little bit, a lot less common.

[00:26:25] Cause there's, there's not all these materials to make cheaper jewelry back then. But the idea that one ring would be the price of that much land or what we're led to believe is, is he used the money that he was supposed to use for the land to get this ring back. I would have loved a little bit more explanation of what that meant. Did he have to pay the guy in Jamestown or wherever more money?

[00:26:49] Like for him to not be able to afford land because of one ring, that does not seem like a, an apples to apples comparison to me anyway. I don't know if you guys have thoughts there, but that doesn't seem like that to me. It did seem like, because we don't see Doyle like we see him sell some gold, but like he clearly Doyle has enough. So I looked this up and Doyle basically sold 200, he got $248 worth of gold.

[00:27:19] And the dollar then was worth about $29. Now that's $7,000. So if he took all that money, $7,000 for all that land, like I could see a ring costing $7,000 for sure. But all that land in modern time, like it just, that doesn't, it doesn't, those are not comparable. I would love for someone to make that right for me. And also this is one of those classic when calls the heart does this all the time, but in hope Valley, this seems like it stands out because this shows better.

[00:27:46] When that dude comes up and explains how Tom was supposed to buy the land and then didn't cause all of a sudden he didn't have money. And yesterday he did have money. He would never, that's such a freebie. That's a freebie for Rebecca to be like, Hey, just so you know, all of this information to help you understand what's going on here. That would just never happen in real life. That's all I got. Uh, it's not for hopes and valleys is where we're talking about things that are getting us hope for the future and are bumming us out to Jax.

[00:28:13] Well, I'm a look, the, the, the woman in me and the, and the, the, the city gal in me really wanted Olivia to go to art school, but I don't want my girl to leave. So I'm happy that, and hopeful that it sounds like she's going to stay. Um, and I really want the love triangle to continue. I'm also hopeful that I think we are, I hear what you guys are saying about forgetting

[00:28:40] about everything for like the next episode and having her not be in jail. You know, BJL is ready to like half her jailhouse scene. So I don't think she's going to let that happen. So I think my valley is that in, unless Hallmark is going to move this to the channel, I still don't think the streaming platform is doing that well. So my valley is just that, yeah, we're not going to have any more of this. Yeah. Fair. Well, no, you, you, you mentioned mine there at the end there.

[00:29:08] I was like, what is the future of the show look like? Is it still going to be a Hallmark plus exclusive? Yeah. Uh, when will we see this show air on Hallmark channel? Cause you know, it will at some point. Uh, so no, well just all that, uh, still kind of feels like Hallmark is not really sure what to do with their streaming platform. And, uh, I have to imagine that this show will eventually do what like chicken sisters

[00:29:37] did and just like hop over, but we'll see. We'll see what happens. Yeah. So my, listen, we, uh, I've not forgotten James Brolin, uh, stepping off the stage coach in when calls the heart. Uh, it represented the best of what the show was at the end of season one. Yeah. Yeah. And he's going to be a new judge in town with the mining story and the history and the next season he's just not there. And that began a long track record of when calls the heart wrapping up anything that

[00:30:05] would be even adjacent to drama. Uh, heck even the, um, proposal acceptance of Lucas didn't stick. So I, you know what I mean? Like I don't have a lot of, I've been burned before is what I'm saying. 100%. So the all my value is, is that they could really hope Valley this thing up. They could really win calls the heart, this thing up by showing up next episode and it being all resolved. But I, I have at least some confidence in Bethany Joy lens that that will not be the case. Okay.

[00:30:35] There you go. All right. Very good. Dan, do you have a, what's called my heart? I do. And go ahead and send us some for next season guys. We always need these. What's calling my heart. Uh, we don't, we don't, we don't at the very least, there's going to be another one calls the heart. That's right. So hello at deck, the homework.com here. This one is from Kathleen. Kathleen says, hi, brand Dan and Jack's what's calling my heart to hope Valley 1874 right now. Easy. I need more sparks between Rebecca and Tom that fainting scene. Absolute gold.

[00:31:02] I wouldn't complain if Rebecca suddenly found herself feeling a little lightheaded again. And Tom just happened to be right there to catch her pure television magic. I'm also crossing my fingers that we get more familiar faces from when calls the heart net is a great start, but imagine a few more beloved characters. A character sprinkled in his Easter eggs for the hardies. It would be such a fun way to bridge the two worlds to make and make longtime fans feel seen. And listen, I know Dan will roll his eyes, but I'm pretty sure Brandon Jacks will back me up. I am fully invested in the Olivia love triangle.

[00:31:30] A show gets dull when the end game couple is obvious from episode one. Give me mystery. Give me tension. Give me the, who will she choose chaos? I'm here for all of it on a completely different note. I'm manifesting that Bethany Joy lens finally shows up to Christmas con, New Jersey this year, preferably with Benjamin Ayers in tow. Meeting her would be an absolute dream. And as always, I love listening to all your hot takes on the show. You're hilarious. You're sharp and you never disappoint. Love you guys. Kathleen. Love you. Kathleen.

[00:32:01] Thank you so much. So kind to, we did everybody. Congratulations to us. Jacks. We'll see you again real soon. I'm sure. Oh yeah. Sure. Will for my bi-weekly segment. Yeah. You get it.
