Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTH
Publicist Savannah Bailey offers Tripp Nelson, her actor client of newfound fame, the ability to connect with fans and find his type at a rom-com cruise event KissCon after reinventing himself but he must learn who he is without celebrity.
[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_04] Hello everybody, it's Bran. Excited today for the re-release of Love on the Danube, as I like to call it. These movies aired back earlier last year on the Hallmark Plus. They are now airing on the Hallmark Channel. And so for those of you that have skipped it, for whatever reason, maybe you didn't watch it on Hallmark Plus, you're watching them now that they're airing on Hallmark Channel, you can now enjoy that episode. It's coming up right now. Bye.
[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_03] Hi, I'm Bran and I love the Danube. I'm Ryan and I watched the Danube. I'm Dan and I think I'd rather not have power than be on the Danube. And this is the Deck the Hallmark Podcast.
[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_05] Well, well, well.
[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_03] In the friendly confines of the Herald household once again. Yes. Bran.
[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_04] I know you likely tuned in this morning and thought surely the boys will be back in their studio. Yeah. By now, surely the power will be back and restored. For sure.
[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_03] This was day six, Bran.
[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_04] It was day six.
[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_03] Tomorrow's day seven for us with no power.
[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_04] Well, that'd be a full week. Yeah. Yes. But perspective, Dano. It's a lovely thing to hold. That's right. And we're holding it and we're holding it us everything else loosely loosely. That's right. Because we're doing just fine.
[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_03] There was a Danube movie where they had bad cell signal and that was us as well.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_04] Yes. For some reason, you know, for a little while we just didn't have cell service where we lived.
[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_03] And that, I think, was God punishing us. Yeah. I don't get into that usually. So. We were without power. Yeah. We have nothing. Yeah. But we do. I have nothing. My house is sweltering. We got up to 85 degrees today. I have nothing. But every morning I can still get a nice coffee. Mm-hmm. We can boil it out in the Blackstone. Nice coffee. And I can sit and read the news on my phone. And then yesterday morning, Greenville decided, you know, those people have it too good down
[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_03] with our power. And we couldn't get a cell signal either.
[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_04] So. I don't really even really know why, what was going on. There's like, you know, lots of theories. People have lots of theories. People are talking it through. Yeah. This is what I'll say. If the theory that is true is the one where somehow we were sending our cell signal up to the fine folks in North Carolina that don't have any, and somehow that was all working, then by all means, take it. Pay it forward. I don't think that's how that works.
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_03] But if it does, the folks in Western Carolina. Of course. Of course. Of course. But if that's just something to make us feel better about God punishing us, then I'm out.
[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_04] So the reason why it's especially punishing for you is because in order to watch this movie. Here we go. You had to leave your house.
[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_03] I couldn't watch it on my cellular data. Yeah. Downtown. I had to drive out to Simpsonville, which if you know me, know is the bane of my existence. You don't like doing that. You've had to do it a lot later. I've had to do it every day this week. And I just at eight from 830 to 1130 had to watch a little double feature. Little Jane mysteries, Dan Bay three kissing stars double feature. So life is good.
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_04] Life is good. But life is actually good right now. I talked to my friend Ryan. Ryan. Hello. How are you?
[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_02] I'm fascinated by this sending the signals up to the sky. It's like, I like, listen, obviously, you know, only we want only positive things right now for North Carolina. But like, is that actually a theory being positive?
[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_04] I don't know. Like, I don't know how it works. There's a triangulation, I believe.
[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_03] Some joker tried to hook his generator up to his pickup truck, which was hooked up to a 5G tower and it shot the whole thing. Yeah, I don't know. That's what happened. I don't like all I know is that the phone kept going 4G, 5G, 5G ultra wideband back to 4G. And it just couldn't.
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_04] It was a mess.
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_03] And you it didn't matter what you did. I'd restart my phone. I'd have signal for two minutes and then it would go again.
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_04] Take my power. Don't take my cell service.
[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_03] Take one of the other. Yeah. Right. If I have Wi-Fi, then whatever. But you took both. That really cut us off at the knees. That was like we were like in round. We were doing OK.
[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_04] We said we can do this forever. Yeah. We can do this forever.
[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_03] I could go the distance with Creek. And then like in the middle of Rocky fight, somebody gave Rocky an appendectomy. That's what happened.
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_04] Like it was. It was so bad out here that we couldn't even look at the Duke power outage map and be like, Oh man, if you look here, that's we couldn't even do that.
[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_03] We couldn't even zoom in and be like how many different shades of blue are covering. How many different outages are covering my house? I think it's three at one point. It was six.
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_04] So, you know, tell you how bad things got here last night. I was like, Oh yeah, the vice vice presidential debates on right now. So let me try. So I opened up opened up the app and I took it all the way down to one forty four P, which was the lowest you could do still couldn't watch it, which probably for the best. If you've ever tried to watch a vice presidential debate on one forty four P and it be stuttering wouldn't recommend just as I suppose.
[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_02] I suppose video quality not important there, but you want to be able to hear it continuously.
[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_04] You want to be able to hear all the lies and stuff like check sports scores and stuff.
[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_03] And it was just just just we're fine.
[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_04] You're doing fine up there. You're doing fine up there.
[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_03] Right. The climate's good. The AC and the Wi-Fi are all great. Can you describe it to me? What's it like you got a light hoodie on today? So are you?
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah, I mean a bit of a bit of a bit of a chill here. I actually had to I actually had to turn the air conditioner off earlier because I forgot to turn it off before I left earlier today. What what a luxury though. Am I right?
[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_03] You said it for you.
[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_02] You said it. Absolutely. I'm doing great. I'm doing great. This is a this is like, you know, granted people are going to digest this in the morning, but this is our first non in-person evening shoot. What a thrill.
[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah, that's true. We don't get to do that very often.
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_02] I think this is the last one to check off the list. We've done it all boys. We've done it all. I guess so. We got to do it abroad.
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_03] We got to go abroad.
[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, yeah, we got to go abroad. We should have done these on the Dan Bay.
[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_02] Yes. On the Dan Bay. I like that Dan Bay's caught on.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah, Dan Bay went from Dune Bay to Dan Bay. We made it here. And I will say this. The one thing that I've taken from this experience is I spent about $200 on Amazon ordering stuff if this happened again. Now, I know it's not going to happen again, but I order. I got a thing that's like a big block. That's one easy charge and it's got all these outlets on it that you can charge stuff on. And then I got a $50 serious fan that's battery power. Wow. I bought those two things. They're going to get here by Saturday brand.
[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_03] So, I guarantee you when that truck arrives, the power will turn on. I can promise you that. I love that. I love that. For us. Let's talk Dan Bay.
[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_04] I'd love to talk Dan Bay. Sure. It's Kissing Stars.
[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_02] Yes. Kissing Stars. Kissing Stars.
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_04] Kissing Stars. And I don't know. It came out. Don't even ask me the date. I don't care. Don't ask me the dates.
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_02] Sometime in the last six and a half days.
[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_04] That's right. Sometimes.
[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_03] I just started making up names for days of the week.
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_04] I do think this movie did release when we still had power. Yeah. So, there's that.
[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_02] I didn't make it. It did. It did. I watched the first chunk of this when we did the preview. 26? 26. 26.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_03] 26. 26. 26. 27.
[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_04] 26. 27.
[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_03] 27. 27.
[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_04] 27. 28. 28. 29. cruises, and she asked Savannah to come and help with KissCon. The KissCon? The KissCon. Ah, what a rock and roll.
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_03] It's not that. 50 people attending that KissCon.
[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_04] Remember when Kiss was on the parade, right?
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_02] Oh, yeah, that was great. That was great. That was one of the finer moments of that spot of parade. Is that 2014? Is that 2014? Yeah, is that the lost episode? The almost lost episode? Almost lost episode. Yes, that's right.
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_04] She agrees and bumps into this dude, and he's like, no selfies, no selfies. Much like similar to Patrick's line in the movie that he was in. That's right. Which is like, no pictures, no more questions.
[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_03] And what we do when we go out and agree with us. Yes, of course. We do it any time we bump into anything. It's no big deal. I watch you just bowling, bowling to people. You're like, no selfies.
[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_04] No selfies. Get out of here. Get out of here. She's like, I didn't even want a selfie, but okay. She gets into the ship and finds out that she has been teamed up, or she's going to be working with Trip Nelson. Trip Nelson, everybody. He is the lead in...
[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_03] Ah, yes. Ah, there it is. There it is. Trip Nelson.
[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_04] He is the lead in the Kiss movie. He plays Gene Simmons, I believe. But has never done a fan... Kiss Con! Has never done a fan event before. She goes to meet him, and wouldn't you know it, he's the selfie guy. He is not thrilled to be teamed up with a publicist. He doesn't need it. He's the lead in the Kiss Con. But boy, does he. It becomes very clear very quickly that he does not want to be at Kiss Con.
[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_04] He tells her that he doesn't think he deserves the attention. Give it to the teachers. Give it to the doctors. Give it to the line workers working on restoring power in the Carolinas. But he reluctantly agrees... Right around Lawrence Road. Right around Lawrence Road. Right now, I believe. Right now. Right now.
[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_05] Lawrence Road area. And for as long as it takes into the night.
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_04] They... Yeah. He doesn't want to do the interviews, but he reluctantly agrees to do one. And it actually goes pretty well. He does a good job. They obviously start hanging out more, and she starts watching some of his movies and is embarrassed that she is watching them. He talks a lot about missing home. Montana. And who doesn't? You know? Joe. Joe, my dude. The rest. Joe Cool. So cool. Yeah. He wasn't... He hasn't been back.
[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_04] He hasn't been back to Montana since becoming a big actor, and it's like... French. Can I even go back now? French Montana. French Montana.
[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_02] Yes.
[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_04] Good.
[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_02] I just thought that was important. Oui, oui. Yes. Bonjour.
[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_04] They're really enjoying each other's company. Really enjoying each other's company. And opening up about their past and whatnot. And it's clear that he is digging her. And she knows it. Because he's like trying to act and stuff, and he's just like, oh, girl, why? You can't say his lines because girl. This is the synopsis we deserve. Yeah. And so she's like, oh, man, I got to shut this down right now. She does not shut it down right now. They dance.
[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_04] And then the next day, she's like, Tripp, I'm not here for romance. I'm here for a job. And he's like, you know it's more than that. You know it's more than just a moment. But he's like, I got to go before they can finish this conversation. As much as she wants to put her feelings aside, she can't. They dance some more. There's lots of dancing on these cruises. And he splits his pants while, yeah, I said pants. I said it out there. He splits his pants. He splits his pants. While trying. The shit my pants came in.
[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, my gosh.
[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_03] I do. It's the best of the best. Yeah. It was too soon.
[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_04] It's gone too soon. Gone too soon.
[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_03] We should be seeing a shit my pants commercial every day. I think we should. Every day we should be seeing one. It's good clean TV. Why aren't we seeing one? It's good clean TV.
[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah.
[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_03] Shit my pants to the office. Oh, man. It's a great, it's a great person. I'm pooping. I'm pooping.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_05] Well done. Well done.
[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_04] As much as she wants to put her together, they dance and he gives the pants. While trying to find pants, they realize that they have no way to get back to the ship. The ship my pants. And so they rent bikes and they stop to look at some scenery.
[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_06] I agreed to be the spokesperson for ship my pants.
[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_04] I know. They stop to look at the scenery and they end up kissing. When they get back to the ship, they are in big trouble with the convention folks. And she ends up getting fired. You're fired. She decides to upload this video of him dancing where he is about to ship his pants. I'm sorry. Split his pants. And it goes viral, which puts him, her for some reason, back in the good graces of the convention folks.
[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_04] And he thanks her and asks her to spend the rest of the cruise with him. At a Q&A, he is asked if there's any special person in his life. He says no, not currently. Oh, buddy. Oh, boy. Man, he knows he done goofed, but she's not having any sort of apology. She's like, I got to go. So time for Grant Jester. Hello. I'm Grant Jester.
[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_05] At a final event, he goes up on stage.
[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_06] Grant Jester is my name. Real proud of the whole Jester family, if I can be honest with you. Grant the second. I don't go by junior. Jester Jr. is confusing. Just Grant Jester.
[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_04] Grant Jester.
[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_06] That's right. At a final. I can't go big or go home, Grant.
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_03] That's what I do. I love you. That's what Grant Jester is all about. You got any line workers in your family? I got so many. I know. They're on the big boys. They're on the big boys. They're on the big rigs with the big poles doing the big work. Great. The big poles. Yeah, the big telephones. That's not what it sounds like. Get out of the gutter there, Papola. It's Grant Jester here talking.
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_06] I'm sorry, Grant.
[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_04] At this final event, he goes on stage.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_06] Mama Jester says, hey, I don't know what that's about. I do.
[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_04] At the final event, he goes up on stage and says, hey, I met somebody. She's amazing. And I want to know if she would like to join me in love.
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_05] And she comes up on stage and they kiss. What better way to end Kiss Condon with a kiss? And that, my friends, was love on the Dan Bay. Kissing Cousins. Kissing Stars.
[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_03] My fault. That's on you.
[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_04] That's my fault. Let's do this. Happens all the time. Let's do this. Let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll get into the wheeze a little bit. We'll see what happens here on Deck the Hallmark. Welcome back, everybody, to Deck the Hallmark. I'm Brant. This is Dan and my friend over there in the north, the power.
[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_02] Yes, with the power.
[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_04] The lights and the stuff.
[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_02] He's got the power. Oh, Dan, may I tell you. You guys are my soulmates. Who are we getting? You guys are my soulmates. What are we talking about here?
[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_03] Hey, Brant, would you run for beer?
[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, thanks for asking. So a funny thing happened when I walked in today. Brant's also out of clothing.
[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_03] I know you would walk for beer. He's out of power. He's out of clothing. Would you run for beer?
[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_04] I would run for beer. A beverage I recently might like. Discovered you like. Yep, that's right. Might like. So I walked in today, and I know this is hard to believe. This is a green screen. That's a green screen. I know. It's crazy. Crazy. And it's not a giant Deck the Homework logo. Follow the TV slash DTH. But I was wearing a green shirt. I broke the first rule of this business, and I wore a green shirt on a set.
[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_04] And so I'm a little bit bigger than Brian. So Brian went, and he found any shirt that he could find that would fit me. And one of them.
[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_03] That one XL shirt, and it was Will Run For Beer. Will Run For Beer. Yeah.
[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_04] I will. You will. I will. Let's run headfirst into the hot take segment. That's where we talk about our thoughts on this movie. We share our feelings. We do not hold back. And I will ask you first, Ryan, what do you think about this one?
[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah, this movie made me hate conventions. And I love conventions.
[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_03] You freaking love conventions.
[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_02] A few things in life I love more than a convention. Possibly running for beer. It's close. Yeah, it's up there. Yeah, like this was like pick any bad sports movie where you go, man, like shouldn't they have just talked to like an athlete or two and figured out like how the fourth quarter and timeouts and like third down works? Yeah. Like that's what, like they should have called me. Kiss Con, just an uncomfortable name. I don't like anything about it.
[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_02] Their chemistry, by the way, it's worth noting. I appreciate you guys letting me be the one to say this. Brendan Penney was going to be on the line, but there are no lines at the moment. Yeah.
[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_04] The line workers are working on that line right now. That's right.
[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_02] That line takes top priority. Now there are, the thing is there's people in the Hallmark world who do conventions. There it is. Now we're getting somewhere. Like how do they get this so horribly wrong? It's, uh, the other thing is a Hallmark film set at a convention is an awesome idea.
[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_03] Amazing idea. Right. And now it's ruined. We can't do it again. That's right.
[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_02] We can't do it again.
[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_03] Gosh, you're so right.
[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_02] I, I, Dan, I texted you this last night during the, uh, 120 P convention that like, you know, it's like, it was 144 P.
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_04] Thank you very much.
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_02] Uh, so I've heard it both ways. Um, the, the, the little fellow on the, the, the villain, like they tried to make the convention organizer a villain. And I, I've, I've said for years, I'm like, man, you know what, you know, I can, I can say that I'm five foot eight. I, I, I'm a, it's, it's cool. Everybody.
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_05] Are you talking about JD Vance? Who are you talking about? Oh, the guy on the boat. Oh, the guy on the boat. This girl. Sorry.
[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_04] I was confused. You brought up the, I'm sorry. No, no. I was like, what?
[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_03] JD Vance.
[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_04] He's a shorter fellow, right?
[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_02] I don't know. I'm sure he's got at least, uh, you know, he's probably five 11. No, I don't know.
[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_04] Someone look that up. I got it. I don't know why I assumed that he was shorter than, uh, walls. Yeah. How dare you? I apologize, guys. That is not a political statement. Me commenting on the vice, potential vice president's heights has nothing to do with my political.
[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_03] Google said it was five, seven and it got in trouble because it's. Oh, I do call her that. That's wrong. That's wrong. It's a wrong thing.
[00:19:01] [SPEAKER_05] Fake news.
[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_03] You hear it in reverse.
[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_05] You hear, you hear.
[00:19:05] [SPEAKER_02] He's not five, seven. Um, uh, well, I, so while, while we search for that, uh, they, they, they, they tried it. This is wild guys. I've said for a long time.
[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_04] I didn't know that I opened up a bag of. Yeah, no, it really, you've done a thing.
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_02] Uh, I've said for a long time that these movies need villains. There's not enough true villains at Hallmark movies, except brand. I told this then this last night, they actually tried to do it. And all of a sudden I was like, this sucks. No more. No more of this. We don't need villains in these films. Uh, the premise. And then last thing, the premise that this guy would only maintain a fan base. If he's either a single or be dating a co-star is so hyper specifically insane that it almost
[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_02] made the movie good, but it's the worst of three and it's not close. Brand. I'll kick it to you.
[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_03] Uh, before you go, brand, uh, JD Vance is six, two. Oh man. He's like two of me. My God. My God.
[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. How tall, tall is walls? All right. I'll get there. Give me the height of the walls there. Um, I disagree. I think it's the best of the three. Oh my God.
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_02] There's a, there's a thread in the Facebook group that agrees with you for the record. I apologize to those people. I think it's the best.
[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_03] The Facebook group that agrees. Holy moly.
[00:20:18] [SPEAKER_04] I think it's the best of the three. And in saying that it's a turd of a movie, I hope to never be on a trilogy of cruise movies ever again.
[00:20:30] [SPEAKER_03] I hope it was also six to, uh, it was a fair evenly matchup.
[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_02] It's a fair fight.
[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_03] Tale of the tape here on deck. The hallmark.
[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah.
[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_03] Can we get weights in the reach? The reach is going to be where it's going to be.
[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_04] It's going to decide. People always turn to deck. The homework for the hard hitting facts. Like how tall are the potential vice president, the United States? Yeah. Um, we're doing it. So yeah, I thought that this one, I, you know, for what it's worth, it kept me the most engaged. Maybe it's the eyes of Brennan Penny. Um, maybe it is the fact that they did get conventions so horribly, horribly wrong. Um, but I, yeah, I don't know. It just kind of worked.
[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_04] And I, I, I like the fact that they just kind of, they just fell for each other pretty quickly. And I like, I like a good old fashioned. I like you. You like me. I know you like me. I know that you like me. And, um, it just kind of like the way that you start looking at the person. I felt like that, you know, I felt like Brennan Penny when he's getting all goofed up on the set.
[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_02] All goofed up?
[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_04] You know, it all just kind of worked for me. Um, in so far as it could, because it's not a good movie. It's not a good movie. No. I do want it on the record. I still am not a fan. I think it wore you down. I think the Dan Bay wore you down. Yeah, I guess so. I guess so. Um, but yeah, I, and there's one saving grace in this movie. And it is the conversation. It's a wait what for sure.
[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_04] But the conversation between the ship captain and Brennan Penny is one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history. And I can't wait to hear people talk about it. Uh, just know that I had a great time with it.
[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_03] Dan, um, I had a hard time concentrating during this movie because this boat had climate control. Yeah. Wi-Fi. Lights. And I was getting distracted by the little things. And so maybe that's why.
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_04] You don't always get, you don't always notice the lights.
[00:22:31] [SPEAKER_03] You don't always notice the lights. But maybe that's why this movie is one of the worst pieces of garbage I've ever seen. Um, everything Ryan said is 100% accurate. This, uh, is not a convention. It is. Just call it the LaCroix of conventions would be kind and mean to LaCroix. It is. Put some respect on it. It is absurd. There are a couple of dozen people in the background of a boat stage and they're doing improv games and they don't know what a convention is. Nobody does.
[00:23:01] [SPEAKER_04] It's also just like bad, bad, uh, on Hallmark to put these, this type of, uh, image in people's minds before they head on a convention cruise with Hallmark actors thinking,
[00:23:13] [SPEAKER_03] Oh, there's going to be like 12 other people. Both of you said something that I was going to say, but we've got to highlight this. How did Hallmark allow this movie to be made? You are just now dipping your toe into the convention game this year. You got this big thing in Kansas city every weekend in the holidays. You got a cruise, all of the stuff they're doing here. Hallmark's actually doing.
[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_03] Wouldn't you think they would try to make a movie that just had some sort of semblance of this looks like a fun time for the fan? Like just something that would suggest kind of like this movie. You would want to go on the cruise with us, but no, no, didn't have it. It is the fewest sites to see of any of these movies. That's why I liked it.
[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_03] It has absolutely like zero actual conventions, things happening during the movie. I didn't think their chemistry was very good. I thought it was forced. And I got to be honest for a movie, a trilogy of movies. That's an anthology that all take place on a cruise ship. Only the West Brown one bothered to try something different where they meet and they're like, what if we set up our parents? That's the only one that bothered to try to do something different.
[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_03] The second one with Dan Janot, in my opinion, had the best chemistry of the three. This movie just is DOA. I hated this movie. It doesn't know how to convention. It doesn't know how to travel or sightsee. And it doesn't know how to chemistry. It's a terrible movie. Worst of the three, no questions asked. Absolutely not.
[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_04] I had some questions.
[00:24:53] [SPEAKER_03] War you down. War you down. That's what happened there. That's fine.
[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_04] Call me Warren because they warned me down.
[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_02] Warren Michaels over here, am I right? You got it.
[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_04] You got it. Let's get to all the feels where we talk about what in this movie gave us feels. I'll start with you, Ryan.
[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_02] The bike riding scene was good. The subtlety of the kiss, the cinematography was really good. There was one shot where the sun like really popped. Music in all three of these films was good, although sparse. You're literally talking about 45 seconds of combined score. But I liked those 45 seconds. So the bike riding scene was good. It was literally the only scene of the film I liked. But I felt something.
[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_04] You know, there's the woman that's in all three of these movies, the good witch. Yeah. The mayor of the good witch. Yeah. She has a scene with a guy in this movie that I didn't really see coming. I didn't know we were supposed to care. You know, she's like innocent in front of a green screen. And yeah. What was that about?
[00:26:00] [SPEAKER_03] In every movie, she has like a weird love interest. I know. It's weird. Weird. I think it's just her doing her thing. That whole thing is the thing that worked the least.
[00:26:09] [SPEAKER_04] Really? Like trying to like tie. Yeah. Good witch.
[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_03] There's so much that worked the least. There's so much that worked less. I guess that that could be the thing. The captain worked the least for me. Bite your tongue.
[00:26:22] [SPEAKER_02] I don't know. I think the captain isn't so bad. It's good territory. Bite your tongue.
[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_03] So bad. I would buy the fact that the captain's dinner is so bad. It's good. Sit by him. Everybody wants to sit by him. Look, I have the same problems that you. We'll get there. I don't want to take it from you. I want you to explain it. And I want people that haven't watched the movie to hear it first from you because I think it will be best that way. But yeah. Let's take a quick break. What did you have? Sorry. I thought you were. The Wild Robot's in theaters right now. Sure. It is the best movie of the year that I've seen. You need to go check it out. Yep. There we go.
[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_04] Beautiful. What's the tie? Beautiful. The Wild Robot. What's the tie in?
[00:26:58] [SPEAKER_03] The Wild Robot. The Robot's wild. And there's a ship that actually, the parts come from a ship. And there's a ship in this movie. We'll be right back here.
[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_02] They shipped the parts.
[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_03] Deck the hall. Can I ship my pants? Ship my pants. Grant Jester, everybody. Grant Jester. Hey, it's Grant Jester on the line. Hey, bud. How are you? You know, the captain's dinner. My idea. Yeah? I thought it was big. I thought it was bold. The captain's never sailing the boat. He's just having dinner. It's huge. He's a big celebrity. He's a big celebrity. Grant, he's a big celebrity. Are you a big celebrity? Huge. The whole Jester family is. What's going on? Like all forever?
[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_03] Well, you know, it started with grandpappy Jester. What was he known for? He was more of a minor Jester. He was a minor. He was a coal miner. And so we called him minor Jester. And he wasn't like a big deal. He was a pretty small deal. But within the mining community, a big deal. A big deal. Who was the first big, big... And then there was Major Jester, as you know. Yeah, he was a major in the armed forces, as you know. And within the army, big, big deal. Big deal. Ultimate Jester was pretty great. He was a wrestler.
[00:28:09] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah, he called himself Ultimate Jester. He's shaking the ropes. Yeah, he shook the ropes.
[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_02] That's exactly right.
[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_04] Let's get to the way what. Before we talk about what in the movie made us go, I'll start with you, Ryan.
[00:28:20] [SPEAKER_02] I'm going to start with a fun bit of dialogue here. It was early on in the film. Savannah. I'm jealous. All your customers get to have fun with you. Best friend. I do like to have fun. Savannah. Yeah. You do. Strong start. We've talked about...
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_03] This is Super 7th. That's why we're here.
[00:28:39] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. We've talked about the Good Witch. That really ticked me off. We invested in... Poor Reynolds. I put all my investment in Reynolds last week. They don't give a darn about me. Hallmark doesn't care about conventions. They don't care about me. They don't care about Reynolds.
[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_03] I will say this. I think I'm not with you guys on that storyline. Not that I think it's any good, but I think the idea that this woman is just doing her thing and retiring and kind of having these very G-rated trysts with different men in every movie is very much a branch out for Hallmark. For them to do that is a very big deal. Does it work in the movie? No. But of the swings they take in the Dan Bay series, that one is the one I'm most proud of, I think.
[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_02] That is fair. I will say... And I hadn't thought about it that way. I'm with it. But it is ridiculous... Keeps with it. ...that these two people... Oh, yeah. ...who admit that they have spent more than a little time together and have kissed, neither of them remembered what the other looked like. It's not... It made me really mad. I'm just mad. The fact that Penny, his film of entry into wanting to be a thespian is Mr. Deeds. I know they were going for laughs,
[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_02] but I was just like, man, this guy wants to be this serious actor, and we're...
[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_03] What's going on? It's not Mr. Deeds, the Adam Sandler movie, right guy. It's Mr.
[00:30:02] [SPEAKER_02] Well, wait, what me, man?
[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_03] Mr. Deeds goes to town, the original... It's a sequel. ...Mr. Deeds.
[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_02] That's a prequel? Yeah.
[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_03] Oh, my gosh. Alonzo Duraldi is screaming right now.
[00:30:13] [SPEAKER_02] Maybe... Hey, Aaron, maybe timecode that. Maybe let's chop that one out. No, we won't,
[00:30:18] [SPEAKER_03] but I will say this. It's got Gary Cooper in it. Oh, he's pretty good. Yeah, he's kind of a big deal. It's a movie from the 30s. It has nothing to do with Adam Sandler.
[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_04] So to tell you where I was, and I'll jump into your bed here... You're doing what?
[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_03] I'll jump into your bed? Is that what you said?
[00:30:35] [SPEAKER_04] I thought... I was like, oh, I didn't know that they did a sequel of Mr. Deeds.
[00:30:40] [SPEAKER_03] You thought that Brendan Penny's favorite movie was a sequel to the Adam Sandler film with John Turturro, the butler that is sneaky, sneaky. That movie... Mr. Deeds Wild Ride. Did you see Mr. Deeds? Mr. Deeds Wild Ride? Yeah. I did. It deserves... It's terrible. It's a terrible movie. Mr. Deeds goes to town, a classic, very... And that's the sequel.
[00:31:04] [SPEAKER_04] That's the sequel. And you don't often get where a movie's so bad that they get a good sequel. So it's beautiful to see when that happens.
[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah.
[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah, on the list of the best sequels, it's Empire Strikes Back, D2, and Mr. Deeds Wild Ride.
[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_03] The best sequel to a terrible movie is Angry Birds 2, and I stand by it. There you go. Angry Birds 2 has a set piece in it, and I laughed. My stomach was hurting. I laughed so hard. Angry Birds 1, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Angry Birds 1 is real bad. Yeah. It's a little fun fact for you. Thanks, Dan. Write that down, Ryan. You thought his favorite movie was an Adam Sandler movie, okay?
[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_02] Listen, man, it's 854 here on the East Coast. We all need a little pep in our step, and that tale is what we needed. One more for me. Listen, there's a thousand things I could poke at in regards to this convention. It really genuinely made me question a lot of things, but this late night meet and greet, it's at night. To Dan's point, there's nobody there for the convention, but there's definitely nobody at this meet and greet because out of all these hall stars,
[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_02] nobody has a line at all. You just go from table to table, and then you don't get a selfie. You maybe get to share a conversation with them. It's just an 8x10 line. You want your signed 8x10? Here you go. You got on a boat. This movie made me inexplicably angry.
[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_03] You got on a boat in the Danube with 49 of your closest friends because you love these two stars so much. There's not, like you're, if you ever go on a cruise and you've done this, you're guaranteed hours of time with your Hall Stars. Yeah. Hours. Hours. They get a line with a, just an 8, just here's an 8x10, thanks for coming. Yeah. That's it.
[00:32:51] [SPEAKER_02] If these folks wanted an 8x10, they could have just hit me up. I could lead them to eBay prices that are pretty satisfactory, depending on who you're talking to.
[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_03] Who's the best eBay handle seller? Like, who's the best seller? Who's out there selling it? Do you got to trust me?
[00:33:04] [SPEAKER_02] I'll tell you this. I'm very proud of my 100% eBay rating. Now, most of that is buying, but I have sold, I have sold a Boy's Tement Teddy Bear on there, and I thought the customer was very satisfied. What the heck got into you?
[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_04] Why'd you do that? What was it from?
[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_02] I had, I had one too many. It was a duplicate.
[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_03] He didn't sell one. He had. He didn't sell one of one, Brian. He would never do that. He wouldn't, that was stupid. He's no dummy. He sold his backup Boy's Tement. His backup Teddy. I saw backup Teddy live, by the way. Oh my goodness.
[00:33:33] [SPEAKER_02] The box was a little, the box was a little beat up. Oh yeah. So I kept the good, it was Wanya. I kept the good Wanya. I sold the Wanya with the box that was beat up. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Shout out to Wanya.
[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_04] So I do have a lot in regards to the convention. First being Kiss Con is one of the worst names I've ever heard. And I hope no one ever does it. It's asking for trouble. It is asking for trouble. And I just want to say this, if Kiss Con really does exist, you still need to ask for consent for kisses. I know people are out there being like, I'm going to go to Kiss Con and I'm going to kiss at the con. That's right. I hope that's not the case.
[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_03] First name for a con ever.
[00:34:11] [SPEAKER_04] It's an awful name. It is setting you up for failure and for a lot of weird interactions. I did. I did. Yes. Yes. I don't want to get in there.
[00:34:21] [SPEAKER_02] Now firmly second place. That's something that really holds your hat to. Yeah.
[00:34:24] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah, 100%. You've kind of alluded to it, but no actor has this much downtime at a convention. No. Like they are working hard. They are waiting.
[00:34:35] [SPEAKER_03] He's one of the only two leads at the entire convention. Yeah. And he has all the downtime. Yeah. All the downtime in the world. That's because he just can't have an 8x10. That's it.
[00:34:44] [SPEAKER_04] The convention hosts, as we've mentioned, not J.D. Vance or Walls. That's right. Both 6'2". Both quite tall fellows. Both clearing 6 feet with ease. Yeah.
[00:34:56] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah.
[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_04] This guy's killed people. And he makes a joke about it. He looks like the Mad Magazine kid
[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_03] stuck his finger in an electric socket.
[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. He makes a joke about it where he's like, hey, somebody says something about true crime. Oh, she says, if you weren't doing what you were doing now, what would you do? And the leading actress is like, I would be doing a true crime thing because I'm really interested in that. And he's like, oh, one of these, like, don't look at me. One of those things. I was already suspicious that this guy had killed people just based off of some things that he said. But man, it's clear as crystal to me this guy's killed people. It's clear as crystal.
[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_04] I've never been more convinced about it in my life. Wow. Let's talk about captains. I can't wait for this. So there's a conversation between the captain and Brendan Penny's character. Brendan Penny's having a tough time. He's like, I don't know how to deal with fame, all this good stuff. And the captain's like, I totally get where you're coming from. Like, every night, it's a mad dash. People want to sit with me at my table. And like, everybody's just always trying to talk to me. And all this stuff about how when you're a captain, people are just nonstop
[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_04] all up in your grill. Is that real? No. If there's a captain, a ship captain out there that could send me an email, send me a contact, brand.dexalmer.com and just let me know if being a captain on a ship is, is a big deal. Are people nonstop going up to you and just like, you're a beetle? Like, are you Paul McCartney on this ship? Like, people are going absolutely nuts. He makes it seem like they open up the doors for dinner
[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_04] and there is a rush of people.
[00:36:36] [SPEAKER_02] His eight by 10 line is crazy. it's new.
[00:36:38] [SPEAKER_03] It would be like if you or me saw Tyler Hines in the green room at like Christmas con and we were like, it's rough out there, man. I know what you're going through.
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_04] That's what it would be like. People come and they buy shirts from us. It's unbelievable. Occasionally, they recognize us but a lot of people were actually just saying they don't know who we are. A lot of people buy the shirts and don't recognize us. They don't know who we are.
[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_03] It is absurd that this captain is like, you and me, same-sies.
[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah, Chris, I know what you're talking about. You know, I was at a coffee shop one day. Someone recognized me. They didn't recognize Dan. They recognized me and it was fine. What's with this captain? What is with this captain? He's so wild to me. Can you imagine getting those pages? Like the actor. And he acts his heart out with these scenes. He does.
[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_02] Oh, he's going for it. He does.
[00:37:26] [SPEAKER_04] I know what you're coming from, Mr. Actor, in this popular movie. That's right. I do captain ship.
[00:37:32] [SPEAKER_03] I do sail boat.
[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah, I sail boat and people flock to me. And they can't get enough of me. They can't get enough of me.
[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_03] I hardly have time to sail boat
[00:37:40] [SPEAKER_04] in all honesty. It's hard for me to captain anyone's heart because I'm captain of this ship. That's right.
[00:37:45] [SPEAKER_02] Because he's captured hearts.
[00:37:46] [SPEAKER_04] People want me to try. People love him. I would just love to know if captains are as big of a deal as this guy is making me. I'm trying to sell that he is. Of course. Dano?
[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_03] As is per usual with movies that have this plot line, is Brendan Penney famous or not? That is the big... I just... He's seen off of the boat and people are constantly taking pictures of him. On the boat, of course, there's a con there. So, of course, people are taking pictures of him. When he gets back off the boat, no problems. Nobody cares that he exists. He calls in favors. Nobody cares.
[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_03] He can walk the streets. Nobody cares. No one cares. He then says he hates... Basically, he says he hates dealing with fans. He just doesn't know how to do it. And then he's asked what he does to unwind when he's at home. And he says he goes to the local bar and rides the mechanical bull. Now, of the things you would do if you don't want to draw attention to yourself and fans to come and bother you and harangue you at your time to unwind,
[00:38:56] [SPEAKER_03] if you're trying to unwind, near the top of the list is local bar mechanical bull. Right? Like, that's not... You're not going...
[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah.
[00:39:06] [SPEAKER_03] Can you imagine going and riding the mechanical bull and then getting off of the bull and being like... And walking out and not talking to anybody? Yeah.
[00:39:13] [SPEAKER_04] Well, listen. You got to stay focused. And the way that it gets you, the way that it bucks you off is if you go in there and you start... You know, you lose thoughts and all that kind of stuff. You got to stay focused. You got to get in and you got to get out.
[00:39:25] [SPEAKER_03] People that regularly ride the mechanical bull at their local bar have their picture on the wall at the bar. That's right. They're not the... You know what I do to unwind is? I don't want to talk to anybody. Let me go down and get on Crazy Joe's mechanical bull. Yeah. That's... No one will notice me there. I can go incognito on the rodeo bull.
[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah.
[00:39:47] [SPEAKER_03] That's what...
[00:39:47] [SPEAKER_02] Not even a good night after the mechanical bull. No. Like, I'm zoned out. I'm ready to call it an evening. You know, I'll see you next week. Yep. Yeah.
[00:39:57] [SPEAKER_03] Absolutely ridiculous. I don't know how busy or big of a deal he's supposed to be. This best friend of our leading lady basically laments the fact that she doesn't have time to date. Right. And then she... The reason she doesn't is she says, I can't date coworkers and I can't date passengers. Don't you live on the boat? Those are your only two options.
[00:40:23] [SPEAKER_02] There within lies the problem, Dan.
[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_03] But if that's the case, you've chosen the wrong profession. Like, you live... But also, that's all true. You can't... She can't date coworkers?
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_04] Or passengers? Get out of here. I mean, that captain begs to differ.
[00:40:41] [SPEAKER_03] That captain is... I know he's not dating anybody. He is nightly dating somebody. Come on. You know... I mean, like, you know. You know. You know. People are rushing. For this woman who has the audacity to say... For beer. She's like, I can't believe that I just... I don't have a love life when I live on this boat and can't date anyone that's on the boat ever, ever, ever. Then, the lead basically is like, I don't know. You know, she... And this best friend's talking her into it. And the best friend's like, I can't date people
[00:41:10] [SPEAKER_03] that I work for. You should date that guy you work for. She's basically like, you know what I can't do? Date anybody I work for. But you should date that guy.
[00:41:20] [SPEAKER_04] I live vicariously through you.
[00:41:21] [SPEAKER_03] With whom you're working. Yeah. You should date... You should do the thing that I'm not doing. That's what you should do. That's right. Which we don't need any of that in this movie. It's bad enough as it is. I laughed every time Brendan Penny said something cowboy adjacent. I feel bad for making fun of Real West whenever we recorded... Yeah, a year ago. ...until's day. Whatever day that was that we recorded that episode. Yeah. The days of your... I feel bad for making fun of that cowboy scenario because Brendan Penny
[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_03] saying things with a serious face like, looks like you've got a burr in your saddle is just patently absurd. Buddy. No. Not now. Not ever. I loved it. Cowboy up and talk normal. You don't talk like that. That's not how you talk, Brendan. Stop it.
[00:42:13] [SPEAKER_04] His character does that. It's acting, Dan.
[00:42:16] [SPEAKER_03] Can we talk about... I'll save it for What the Hallmark.
[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_04] Go ahead. We're here. Welcome to What the Hallmark. It's where we talk about any questions that we still have that we'd like some answers to. Ryan.
[00:42:26] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah, these groomsmen movies have to be better, right? I mean... Like... Got Tyler Hines Just by the transitive property alone? Yeah. Yeah. Ron Iover directed? I don't even know if I'm assigned to those, but I hope they're better.
[00:42:41] [SPEAKER_03] This just in. If we do them, you're assigned to them. Yeah, sure. Whatever.
[00:42:46] Okay.
[00:42:47] [SPEAKER_02] You want them? Well, that's it.
[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_03] You're becoming the Hallmark Plus B is what you're becoming.
[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. And I hope that the little guy, the convention organizer, I hope he gets jail time and I hope that's a movie on Hallmark Plus in 2026. Of course.
[00:43:01] [SPEAKER_04] Or lifetime. Yeah.
[00:43:03] [SPEAKER_02] Either or. Yeah.
[00:43:04] [SPEAKER_04] So there's a story they keep cutting in and out of the Q&A session and the leading gal there is sharing a story about how someone she had to kiss in a movie, she sneezed every time she leaned in to kiss this guy. And then she's like, yeah, that was crazy, huh? That's crazy. But I wish that this movie
[00:43:32] [SPEAKER_04] would have just showed some clips of that because I thought it would have been really funny. But what was the deal? Like, that sounds really unfortunate and like you, yeah, like maybe shouldn't have gotten that role or whatever. That sounds like a really tough spot to be in for her. Was it allergies? Was it, what was it?
[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_03] And why? That's all. That's it. We haven't done a finances, wait, what, or a what the homework in quite some time. Sure. But Brendan Penny says, famous Brendan Penny says early in this movie that his parents run a farm and they're not, they need to hire someone. Yeah. Like a full-time employee. So just think in your head what a full-time employee would cost and just double it because Montana Farm, right? Whatever that would cost.
[00:44:23] [SPEAKER_03] And he's like, I can't, I just can't afford, I can't afford it. And I, but if I book this trilogy, then I can't afford it. What are you? Like what is, what is he? Like that's not, like that's not a huge expense for a movie star. Yeah. I, I,

[00:44:54] [SPEAKER_03] So he is though. He is.
[00:44:57] [SPEAKER_02] Before he gets on the boat. To these 50 people on the boat, he is.
[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_03] Snapping pictures. So producer Aaron didn't have a mic. She said this is his first big movie. That makes sense, I guess from the money standpoint, but he's famous from something else. He's getting, before they, he gets on the boat, people are snapping pictures of him on the mainland. From the Kiss movie. At the beginning of the, From the first movie. He just got, okay. He got announced for this movie. It's that big of a deal that people on the street know him already. He's already gotten a check. I think the first one is, he's already gotten endorsement deals. But maybe it was the first one
[00:45:30] [SPEAKER_04] and it was like, let's see how it goes.
[00:45:32] [SPEAKER_03] You either have, you either are famous enough and have signed endorsement deals and have signed, you know, a lot of, of, of contracts that have given you money or you're not famous yet. Like that, that is like, Ryan, you're famous. Tell us what it's like.
[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_02] Well, you know, it's, it's a classic. You can't date the past. Passengers are a co-worker situation. Of course. Like, you know. Of course. And so really, once you factor it out from there, it all makes sense. Yeah.
[00:45:55] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. That's fair. It's tough that you are the captain of the ship, but. He's the captain. You know. Yeah. You make it work. He's the captain now. There's nothing he can do. We did everybody. Congratulations. We are officially done with the Dan Bay.
[00:46:08] [SPEAKER_03] Ah, franchise.
[00:46:09] [SPEAKER_04] Wait for those three more though.

[00:46:25] [SPEAKER_02] I love you all. Class dismissed. Oh my gosh.
