[00:00:00] Hi, I'm Brandon. I love BET plus Christmas movies. I'm Dan and I despise BET plus Christmas
[00:00:09] movies. I'm Alonso and I'm a veterinarian technician and this is the Deck The Hallmark
[00:00:15] Podcast. Deck The Hallmark, it's its podcast. We're then in front of this podcast. We hope
[00:00:26] you like this dolly podcast. Never gonna be a lot for Christmas, never gonna be Alonso. Hey,
[00:00:37] hey, never gonna be a lot for Christmas, never gonna be Alonso. Welcome everybody.
[00:00:43] Oh boy. We're bad. Any more than that and you'd have to pay for it. That's true. Yeah,
[00:00:47] yeah, just in time. That's true. Just in time. It's great to be here today talking about
[00:00:53] a BET plus Christmas movie from 2023 that we missed featuring Macy Gray. Are you kidding me?
[00:01:00] Macy Gray is in this movie technically, yes. Yes. Sure is. Sure is.
[00:01:06] How did a great trip, Brian? Thanks for asking. How is it? Why I talked to you so much last week.
[00:01:10] You did. You're right. I didn't come back. Come back a bunch but it was a wonderful trip.
[00:01:13] Haven't you been back in the saddle here March 25th? Alonso, how's your bracket so far?
[00:01:18] One week in the March, man. How's your bracket looking? It's no longer speaking to me.
[00:01:23] I'm sure Alonso beat me in the March, Manus bracket challenge last year. I beat him
[00:01:29] in the Oscar thing this year and I think there you go. You all need to know about those two things.
[00:01:34] I have it pretty much now. The sort of prognosication works. My I tend to peak early on the
[00:01:40] March, man, this and then like once one needs to know something, it's all right. That's right.
[00:01:44] Yeah, the upsets come in handy early and then late they come back to about you.
[00:01:47] That's how it works for sure. Well, it's great to be happy that you're back.
[00:01:52] Thank you. If you finally recover it as far as jet lag and whatnot, like I feel good.
[00:01:56] I feel good. I feel good. You went for your morning workout?
[00:02:00] Yeah, of course. Of course now that I'm committed to it now. I can tell you that.
[00:02:05] You know, Solara Clips is coming up soon. Yeah. Apparently we found out.
[00:02:10] Grimble County shut down schools because the buses are going to be picking up the kids
[00:02:15] when the eclipse could injure some kids off. But we're not even in the path of totality or any?
[00:02:19] No, we're not. But somehow we just I did to eat the Emotions Megany sense but they are
[00:02:25] really leaning heavily on the eLearning day for April 8th here in Greenville.
[00:02:29] They couldn't just hand out those little cardboard sunglasses he thinks.
[00:02:31] I feel good. It's you know, it's any weather phenomenon causes green
[00:02:38] to a couple of years ago with yes. Like there was like so many people in Greenville
[00:02:44] and the path of totality in it was a whole of that. This year we're not even close.
[00:02:49] We were having one. Yeah, it's going up straight down the middle of the whole.
[00:02:53] Yeah. Kind of like that caution tape in this kitchen. That's exactly right.
[00:02:57] But if anybody is checking it out, let us know. Yeah for sure.
[00:03:03] It's a cool event. It's watch. We saw it when you're a school kid you're sitting around hoping
[00:03:09] oh let there be an eclipse day. Yeah, yeah, yeah, everybody around Greenville.
[00:03:13] You wake up early on the radio. Hey, we've had about as many of those in the last decade as we
[00:03:18] used to. So true. Two eclipse days. I thought the eclipse was neat.
[00:03:24] Yeah, I was like okay. Yeah, have you ever seen seen an eclipse real good?
[00:03:31] Yeah, there was one a couple of years ago where we're standing in a parking lot with people
[00:03:35] and like one person had the pieces of cardboard and we all watched it on the asphalt.
[00:03:40] This is like the last one for the company. Everybody says that. I'm done. No, no, no, no.
[00:03:45] I heard back in 2017 or whenever it was that it was the only one of its kind for the next
[00:03:51] hundred and some years. And I was like, all right, I'm in. This is it for me.
[00:03:55] And then I hear there's just another one. I'm done. Eclipse is relying to me.
[00:04:00] The sun says it's going to stop touring. And then it does the residency in Vegas.
[00:04:04] So after releases a new single after April 8th, the next solar eclipse that can be seen from
[00:04:10] the contiguous United States will be August 23rd, 2044. Yeah. Dude on that when that episode
[00:04:20] happens, we'll have a special party here. We're going to go nuts. It's going to be awesome.
[00:04:24] Yes, I'm going to be I'm going to be 60. Yeah. Along with 77.
[00:04:29] 77. All right. Let's all make a pack. Let's all make a pack in 2044. We're all going to get
[00:04:39] together for one big solar eclipse party in yeah, that green bill. Wherever it is. I don't know
[00:04:47] where can I what's the date on that before I book August put on your kind of see you got anything
[00:04:53] else August 23rd, 2044 very close to one Aaron Shays birthday. That's right. Aaron, you in for
[00:04:58] that? Yeah, you're invited. Oh, this 23rd. That's so good for me. Yeah, he's heard you're out on the 23rd.
[00:05:04] You got a breakfast all day schedule. Probably. Let's see what we're speaking. Yes.
[00:05:15] Okay, so the 2044 one. Oh, this is going to be no good. This is this is not a great time to get
[00:05:22] together. This is like Montana. We could all meet in Montana. I love it. We're all meeting in
[00:05:28] Montana done and done. And so it's this is interesting. It is going to begin in Greenland,
[00:05:33] sleep through Canada and end as the sun is setting in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.
[00:05:39] Probably not the best one. Dan, I have a question for you since this is going to be in Montana,
[00:05:44] do you think you in Justin Kirkland will have gotten enough reviews?
[00:05:47] Where your big hats? Well, the question isn't if we've got enough reviews. The question is,
[00:05:51] will we have finished season four? That's what we're stalled right now. And we've had it's been a lot
[00:05:59] of infighting with Justin and myself, of course, over how to move forward. But the reviews are going
[00:06:05] to come. I mean, they I've not checked it in forever, but we got to be close. Gotta be close, right?
[00:06:09] Big couple of hats. Big couple of hats by 2044. Yeah. Here we go. I'm hoping to be able to afford a
[00:06:15] step from about it. Season four by 2044. Let's go. I've season four by 2044. I can't wait for us to
[00:06:20] all get together in Montana in 2044. Yeah. Play some cards. Wave for the sun. We can catch
[00:06:26] well, it's August. Could we just do Bramble Fest in Montana? Put it on. Put it on. Put it
[00:06:32] on the calendar. Bramble Fest. Logist that week. Live in your clips. You could do the deckeys too.
[00:06:41] Come on. August 23rd. Yeah. August 23rd. 2444. I'm looking to see what day of the week it is
[00:06:47] because if it's close to a weekend, we're going to be in a fun Christmas. August 23rd is a Tuesday.
[00:06:56] Things we can do the brim of this weekend before and then I'll fly out to Montana. Okay,
[00:07:00] keep the good vibe. There you go. I like that. Well, mega. We'll do a tour. We'll do it with the whole
[00:07:04] thing. Well, we're back in 2023 now. We've actually got back in time three for this movie never
[00:07:11] going to be alone for Christmas. I'm sorry. Never alone for Christmas is the actual title of
[00:07:18] the movie November 3rd, 2023 is when it dropped on BET plus and it went a little something like this.
[00:07:24] Wrong one. Lauren is I'm sorry, I've still thinking about the clips. I love them.
[00:07:31] Lauren is waiting for 20 years. I know. Lauren is talking to her mom on the phone telling her that
[00:07:37] the snow storm is going to keep her from coming home for Christmas, but she'll be okay. Being alone
[00:07:45] for Christmas. She's never going to be alone for Christmas because she ends up going to this party.
[00:07:52] She sits at the bar and someone has ordered her a heavily spiked egg. Is it you spiked? It's
[00:07:59] heavily spiked. Yes, okay. This guy walks up, sits next to her. They talk, ask her why she's
[00:08:06] all alone. They begin to talk. They hit it off. They drink. They quote unquote dance. They have
[00:08:15] fun talk and do each other. You are now. And they end up back at his place. They're having a good
[00:08:24] night together. Then we see Viamontage, them falling in love over the course of a year, his proposal.
[00:08:34] We begin to see her slowly getting annoyed at the things that she used to find in
[00:08:40] Deering about miles. She's thinking about calling off the wedding. She then has a conversation with her
[00:08:51] boss Preston and the sparks are just flying. This guy is a good looking fellow and now that she's
[00:09:01] starting to have doubts, she's kind of looking at Preston and going this guy's like the complete
[00:09:06] opposite. Maybe this is somebody that she could build an empire. She tells miles that she thinks
[00:09:14] that they're making a mistake getting married. Instead of moving out though, they decide to split
[00:09:19] the house down the middle with caution tape. That's a little bit more difficult than they thought
[00:09:24] originally because the fridge is on this side. It's a whole mess. At work, she pitches the idea
[00:09:31] to Preston to have a contest with the winners of these contests going to occasion retreats.
[00:09:41] For their day-to-day app about rebounding. They decide that they should also go to this
[00:09:49] resort, this occasion resort together and make sure the contest winners are having a good time
[00:09:55] and all that good stuff. They show up and they are confused because there's a party being thrown
[00:10:00] there by Macy Gray. Try to say goodbye. A.K. Miss Ramona. It doesn't matter though,
[00:10:07] that party has literally nothing to do with the movie and it impacts it in zero ways.
[00:10:14] She is shocked to find out that miles won the contest. Is there to meet a girl that he met
[00:10:20] via the app? So they basically spend this time trying to make each other jealous. Lauren is throwing
[00:10:26] herself at Preston. Miles is throwing himself at his new booth thing. Raven. That's so
[00:10:34] Raven. They're both actually really liking the person that they're with and being like,
[00:10:39] oh this is actually kind of interesting. One night though Lauren and Preston get lost in a run
[00:10:44] and end up in a tough neighborhood nearby. Preston shows up and saves the day though. Yeah.
[00:10:51] She has a conversation with Preston about wanting a guy that is not all jokes.
[00:10:56] He ends up having a conversation later with Preston. Basically being like, hey I don't really
[00:11:03] want anybody who's all jokes and he's like, well good thing for you is I'm zero jokes. I
[00:11:09] don't really like jokes at all and that's kind of my whole deal. But after jumping up and singing
[00:11:16] karaoke with Miles, he's like, who are you? What was that? She finally comes clean to Preston
[00:11:21] about who Miles actually is. But does tell him that she's had a crush on him for a while? He says,
[00:11:28] I have also had a crush on you for a while. They decide that they would like to mutually
[00:11:33] build an empire together. But that starts with her changing some things about herself,
[00:11:39] including not drinking heavily spiked eggnog anymore and being less clumsy. You know the two
[00:11:45] most important things to do if you want to be good at life. Winners coat. That's the winner's coat.
[00:11:52] Later that night, she ends up spending the night talking to Miles, apologizing for all things. And
[00:11:58] and they actually have a nice night together until it's not a nice night until it is a nice night
[00:12:03] because they kiss big ones and quote unquote unwrapped some gifts. If you know what I mean,
[00:12:10] that's exactly right. They wake up the next morning and they're like, oh what did we do? Preston
[00:12:17] comes to the door. So obviously Miles has to hide at the Christmas night party. She does have a
[00:12:24] conversation with Macy Gray about the magic of Christmas and whatnot. And obviously that conversation
[00:12:30] absolutely changes her life. She decides to tell Preston that she doesn't want to build an empire
[00:12:35] with him and she quits her job. Miles comes over and they talk and he tells her that he ended
[00:12:40] things with Raven, which again, I definitely knew her name all movie. We talked about how much we
[00:12:46] love Raven. We're nonstop talking about Raven. They'd shears cut the one year we're back at the
[00:12:51] resort. Preston is with Raven and Miles and Ramona have gotten married and they're dancing to never
[00:12:58] going to be alone for Christmas. And now my friends was never going to need for Christmas. I know
[00:13:05] it's hard because the song is never going to be alone. We think so we did it. We're going to take a
[00:13:11] quick break. We can come back when I break this movie down here on Deck the Home Arch.
[00:13:24] Welcome back to a clips talk with Brandon and Alonzo. We're having a great time.
[00:13:29] Never going to deck the home arch. No, we are not. Let's break this movie down with
[00:13:34] Brandon for $20 named me a single other Macy Gray song aside from my tribe.
[00:13:42] Oh, she's saying the theme song of As Told by Ginger on Nickelodeon.
[00:13:49] A song that is hers not a song she sang. That's her song. It's her what's it called?
[00:13:54] I it starts with some of the grasses greener. Look up Macy Gray as told by Ginger.
[00:14:04] That'll that is the name of the song. I have one. I know the name of the song. What what was yours?
[00:14:12] I can't wait to meet you. Okay, I that's on here. It is. I found out the name of the song. It is
[00:14:17] not as told by Ginger. What is the song? I'm in between. But I didn't know. I didn't know
[00:14:23] another one. I'm sorry. 20 bucks. I would have never said Alonzo. I'll give you $20 to name
[00:14:31] another Macy Gray song. I was in fact bet he knew another one. So, would have won that bet.
[00:14:36] And it's about Jesus and everything. It's about Jesus. And I can't wait to meet you is yeah.
[00:14:41] Oh my goodness. She can't wait to meet Jesus. Hey man. May sprinkle some lyrics in the right.
[00:14:48] Love the love the life I'm living but I'm looking forward to the day I die. Oh man. I can't wait
[00:14:54] to meet you. Oh, it's I can't wait to meet you in E T E E T C H. H. That's right.
[00:15:02] Alonzo, if you could have done us all favor and done your best Macy Gray impression while doing
[00:15:06] that, that would have made my day. Well, here's the thing. I always thought Macy Gray, Macy,
[00:15:11] Macy Gray. I always thought Macy Gray always spoken like the gravelly tone. And this movie
[00:15:17] she's not. She doesn't though. I said he's putting on. I said he's that Macy Gray and then she kept
[00:15:24] talking. And I went, I guess it's not Macy Gray. Sherries Jubilee. Jerry. Yes. I know that one.
[00:15:32] Somebody finally give her a Lawson. I don't understand. But if anybody wants a good time,
[00:15:36] Macy Gray once sang at a, I believe it was an LA New Year's Eve event that was televised.
[00:15:43] And it's a complete disaster. The show as a disaster. Oh, I remember that. That was tiny Kennedy host.
[00:15:49] Yes. Yes. Yeah. You can watch they did like a bet. Oh, a worst of. They tried so hard to make
[00:15:55] like how the Hollywood side New Year's like it's a maze. It's a maze. It's a disco of all time.
[00:16:02] It's a great YouTube if anybody wants a better. Isn't Macy Gray also the one who like wore the dress
[00:16:08] of the Grammys about how her album was dropping on 9-11 right before 9-11 happened. Oh,
[00:16:13] I didn't know that story. Yeah. I mean, look, I mean, I'm a state. It's time to talk about
[00:16:21] never going to be never alone for Christmas. We're going to start with a hot tag. I'm going to start
[00:16:26] with my front lawns all along. So what do you think about this movie? Well, I'll give it points
[00:16:31] for this. You know, we've talked about how over the years on Hallmark, we've seen like the Christmas
[00:16:36] movie, Groundhog Day or the Christmas movie, Liar-Liar. So I have to give it to this movie for being
[00:16:42] the Christmas movie, Private Lives, which is a no-old coward play about a divorced couple who show up
[00:16:50] at the same resort with their new partners and hijinks and sue. So that was it. That was I felt like
[00:16:56] a kind of a fun plot thing. It's kind of dumb, but I've seen much worse. And I like
[00:17:06] them. Yeah. Quite recently. And I like the lead actress a lot who ironically in a movie where
[00:17:15] the whole thing is about how like her boyfriend is the jokester, she's actually the funny one
[00:17:20] of the two of them, at least as far as the performance is going on in this movie.
[00:17:24] So yeah, I would totally watch another movie starring Minion. But beyond that,
[00:17:36] the pieces don't really fit together very smoothly, let's say. You know you're cool when you do
[00:17:41] the one name thing. When you connect to that being your professional identity. Can you imagine if
[00:17:46] we were supposed to call you Minion? Oh, well I was going to and then I found out about her.
[00:17:51] And I'm like, well, I guess I'll go by brand now. There's a whole thing. I was really bummed
[00:17:55] that day. I thought you were calling him a minion with the whole idea. Yeah. Imagine my surprise when
[00:18:02] I saw a despicable me. I was like, son of a god. This movie is long. It's an hour and 40 minutes
[00:18:10] and it just, it didn't need to be at all. There's a lot of the same conversation like twice
[00:18:18] back to back which is very interesting. A lot of long establishing shots sometimes not even
[00:18:23] the same aspect ratio. But aside from that, the meat of the movie is fine. As Alonzo said,
[00:18:31] there's some good performances going on here. The general idea of the movie is fun.
[00:18:39] I don't know if it was like set up the best. While they're at the resort at the start of it,
[00:18:48] I'm still thinking about why they do that to their house. Why they do that down the middle
[00:18:55] just won't work. And so I'm stuck on that. And once I finally get over it where like, you know,
[00:19:03] doing a mistletoe thing that I just found to be confusing. And so not a bad movie,
[00:19:09] honestly, a pretty really fun idea for movie that I'd like to see done again perhaps.
[00:19:15] And some good performances. But yeah, it's long and you feel it. You feel that extra 20 minutes
[00:19:21] like compared to a home-marked movie. But yeah, it's fine. This movie is insufferable. It is
[00:19:30] it was so, it may be my least favorite we've watched this month. And the reason it's not
[00:19:36] the worst we've watched this month. There's a difference, okay? But everyone in this movie
[00:19:42] says a line of dialogue at what I only imagine it's like if you like major podcasts all half-speed.
[00:19:50] And then the other characters on screen wait for the entirety of that line to happen,
[00:19:57] let it settle, and then they talk. There's never anything near people talking like they
[00:20:03] wouldn't a normal conversation. And what happens is, combining the fact that everyone is saying
[00:20:07] their lines at such a glacial pace with the fact that they have some conversations several times,
[00:20:15] it just is an eternity. We were late to this recording because we're so used to these movies being
[00:20:21] an hour 20 to an hour 30. And then all of a sudden, Alonso's on the line and we look down
[00:20:28] and we got like 18 minutes left in this bad boy. And you just feel every moment of it. Is it a good idea?
[00:20:34] Yeah, the you sent us the text about private lives. And yeah, this is this is definitely one you've
[00:20:38] not seen before in that regard. But man, it just drags and drags and just tries to make up for it
[00:20:46] with number of Christmas trees and it doesn't. So of the movies that we've seen in March that I
[00:20:52] would watch again, this is not this is probably at the bottom of the list unfortunately. So no,
[00:20:56] it's a hard no for me. But a hard yes for 2044. Oh yeah, Montana 2444. I'm just putting
[00:21:03] up a book right now. Yeah, it's time for all the fields where we talk about what in this movie gave us
[00:21:08] those fields Alonso. Yeah, if anything, I think my fields were kind of like Lauren
[00:21:15] could do better than either of these ones like you know, the if the choice is as you say like
[00:21:22] the anti Mr. Anti fun and Mr. Like, you know, Wackety Schmackety do it's like there's gotta be a guy
[00:21:31] in the middle of those extreme poles that could get her through life. So I would just kind of
[00:21:37] I kind of kept feeling like please escape this movie and find yourself someone who will make you
[00:21:43] happy. Yeah, I think some of the jokes land which I appreciate it and some of the
[00:21:50] the sort of farcical literal slamming door things were pretty well executed. But yeah,
[00:21:55] Dan's right there's a lot of this movie that you could just drive a truck right through the middle
[00:21:59] of and it's like watching you know like a Bayletar film or something where we're just like
[00:22:04] we're to know and we got nowhere to go in all day to get there. I was just comparing it to Bayletar
[00:22:09] and I didn't bring it up because I just I didn't want to speak out of turn. Um,
[00:22:15] you know, we've seen the whole like we're both bad dancers thing before and no one ever really
[00:22:21] fully commits to it. These two did these two have a dance sequence together towards the beginning
[00:22:27] of this movie where they're both like we're bad dancers but let's go out there and they are
[00:22:34] it is it is a really wonderfully bad dance sequence full of lane bends very awkward very uncomfortable.
[00:22:43] I do love that everybody was watching them as like you know, you see in other movies when they see
[00:22:50] like if someone really good dancing and everybody like oh yeah and this one everybody crowds around
[00:22:56] the really bad dance right that was really fun so yeah that's ready to call 911 at any moment.
[00:23:01] That's right. It is it's insane. It's insane. These two dancing but I loved it. Dana
[00:23:07] Soarts my heart found nothing brand absolutely nothing. Um, I want my time back. Okay,
[00:23:13] fair enough here to oh you can do that yeah, you can give me my time back now how do I use this movie
[00:23:21] for you can use it however you want. How do I I could is it like a time out like a like a Zach
[00:23:26] no it's what once you take it yeah I got to understand. I still understand you're the one who's
[00:23:32] the nut about about time you need to figure it out. That's true you have to figure it out. You
[00:23:36] what you will experience it at some point and go go into the nose, just close it close my
[00:23:41] face and then I know where to take a quick break we're going to come back with the way what
[00:23:46] and the bet on it here on Dr. Homer.
[00:23:58] Welcome back everybody we're talking about Never Alone for Christmas BET plus 2023 it's time
[00:24:05] for the wait what's where we talk about what in this movie may just go wait what Alonzo I'll start
[00:24:10] with you. Alright so we open with the two of them meeting at an event yeah is it a Christmas party
[00:24:19] or is it a wedding? I believe is my guess. Okay, the one is there's one line where I'm told that
[00:24:29] it's a wedding he says that he is the third cousin of the groom on his mama side. That's right but
[00:24:37] is it a wedding or a Christmas party? I don't see any other indication. I don't see a bride in there
[00:24:42] I don't see yeah that was so that it was also really confusing because the movie starts with her
[00:24:49] on the phone looking outside in a snowstorm being like I can't get home cut to her being at this
[00:24:55] party yeah and I'm just like what happens well she's not she's not home she stayed in I know
[00:24:59] but again it's like who's what why yeah all good questions we've seen a lot of movies where the
[00:25:08] heroine will sleep in their makeup which is you know just a thing that happens in movies in general
[00:25:14] and and it's nonsense this actress sleeps in jewelry yeah she has a necklace on that's right
[00:25:23] oh boy yeah waking up in the morning and I'm like that's a choice so it's a risk too
[00:25:30] yeah yeah especially if you're sleeping with somebody who likes to put alien masks on I don't know
[00:25:34] what's gonna happen uh this entire dating app is is predicated on the notion of people who are
[00:25:41] rebounding yes and every bit of advice I've ever heard and may have often given in my life is like
[00:25:49] you you never get involved with the rebound person like you know you if you just gotten out of a
[00:25:56] long relationship or something like that that first person you date is kind of the first pancake
[00:26:01] and you know you don't want to commit to that it's just it's the rebound person who's there
[00:26:06] and then you know on rare occasions that will maybe be a very often it's that's the like
[00:26:12] premise for a lot of romcoms like the idea is is the rebound person is never the person like it's
[00:26:18] like you know what was that dumb movie would they cook where if he's with you don't have to be
[00:26:23] more specific yeah true good luck Chuck like like you have to have this or like it's very rare when
[00:26:30] the rebound is the person you fall in love with they make a movie about it so rare like so so
[00:26:34] the app is predicated on the notion of like hey find your that's rebound person that's right the
[00:26:39] exception to the rule is what this entire app's about yes yes exactly uh yeah you mentioned the trees
[00:26:45] which are she has three in her office and two more on the desk oh Lonzo and their
[00:26:51] 15 their back belongs there are 15 trees in her office I counted and cleaning miniatures including
[00:26:58] the many ones on the desk there are 15 trees in her office okay I did like have their bathtub had
[00:27:05] like Garland and lights next to it which just I said like a and Braim was in on if I had if I had
[00:27:12] a cornered tub like that I'd for sure put Garland around we can get electricity close the closer we
[00:27:18] can get it the better I think yeah I mean I bad battery it I wouldn't do a plug and I do a
[00:27:25] battery okay okay guys I'm not I listen I'm safe the kitchen split into thing I mean the the
[00:27:35] the movie wants you to wants to do it and then also comment on how it's ridiculous and it's like
[00:27:40] no it's just ridiculous yes you can't have one person gets to the fridge half of the kitchen and
[00:27:46] one person gets the stove half of the kitchen that's just dumb and then making a joke about it
[00:27:50] doesn't make it any less dumb also like hear me out what if we just didn't then this movie would be
[00:27:56] shorter yeah because it doesn't matter like they're splitting it down and having that one scene where
[00:28:03] she's trying to make eggs but can't get to the stove and he wants zero but can't get to the milk
[00:28:08] it does it matter yeah and then I got to deal with brand who can't stop perseverating on these eggs
[00:28:15] he's like she's never gonna get to eat the eggs she should she should before cracking and
[00:28:19] beginning to scramble it should have hit her yes listen he can eat the cereal without milk you
[00:28:25] can do that you can like what is she going to do with these eggs to your point of rocky bell
[00:28:29] but if you zoom out just a little bit they could have gotten rid of the that scene and the scene where
[00:28:36] they bring the caution tape out and the movie is better like it's a better movie the comedic pay
[00:28:42] off it is not merit the added running time but you know what are you gonna do uh
[00:28:49] macy grays entrance into this film oh my gosh she she walks down the staircase into the the
[00:28:55] the foyer of her house and she is and it's a close up of her running her hand down the banister
[00:29:02] a banister that is covered in garland and fragile ornaments right and I'm like you either get your
[00:29:09] hand on the banister or you decorate the banister you can't have both you can't do both
[00:29:14] especially not ink close up in a long lingering tracking shot it's just like all of the things
[00:29:18] like don't don't don't touch the you're gonna it was very anxiety creating all right any
[00:29:25] the camp out on this one for a second the only white people in this movie are the gait go here we go
[00:29:31] now we have seen a BET films and other films where it's all black cast or mostly black cast
[00:29:37] with some white characters and that's fine and and you know I'm all for it but to have the gay couple
[00:29:44] be the only white characters in the movie underscores a thing that happens in a lot of communities uh
[00:29:52] I've heard about it in the black community I've heard about it in in Asian communities this notion
[00:29:57] that homosexuality is a white western thing yeah that we have somehow inflicted on other cultures even though
[00:30:05] homosexuality has existed in every culture on the planet for as long as there have been human beings
[00:30:10] living on it so it just landed a little weird for me that I love the queer inclusion don't get
[00:30:19] me wrong but to make them the two white guys and the only white guys in the whole movie had a
[00:30:25] weird whiff of this is a white people thing that I just did not so well I gotta be honest it didn't
[00:30:31] don't on me until the guy one of those one of the two guys says he tries to speak in a more
[00:30:38] common vernacular to the rest of the cast and when he does that and they all laugh I went
[00:30:43] this movie is kind of inferring that being gays like white people stuff is what it's kind of
[00:30:47] inferring yeah that that is the implication so I didn't love that it was weird it was weird it
[00:30:53] it stuck out like like in a movie that nothing else really sticks out that stuck out for sure
[00:30:58] yeah yeah it's a it's a choice for sure and then finally there's one of the one of the contests
[00:31:04] that are used to do I forget if it's the race or the mistletoe or whatever but one of the prizes
[00:31:09] is a private buffet I miss that I miss that one man not a thing yeah you are sure to meal not work
[00:31:24] yeah all on that yeah all you can eat by yourself yeah you know when you're eating by yourself you
[00:31:30] get a bunch of like warming trays and they take their one dish and put it on the store now it's
[00:31:37] right on the county you get your plate out and you serve and then you sit down and you go back
[00:31:41] that's how that works every time my first one is just this poster yeah what did you see the poster
[00:31:50] of this you long to you see gray in the background no just look up the poster and I would encourage
[00:31:55] anybody to look up the poster I don't know what my guys doing in this macy graze back there they're
[00:32:01] in a wreath I don't know what this poster is but it would encourage everybody to take again he would
[00:32:08] appear to be looking at an eclipse yes he is looking at it's looking at the 23rd 24 yeah 24
[00:32:14] wow yeah this movie starts and if you blink you miss it but with a couple of establishing shots
[00:32:21] and we see a train going by in a in a busy city that is all decorated on the outside for Christmas
[00:32:28] and then also on this train in an outdoor part of it I guess is Santa on a throne waving as
[00:32:39] the train is going and he's going backwards and it's it was a literal weight well moment for me
[00:32:46] because I just didn't I we I didn't know what I was seeing I didn't know like what what the point
[00:32:52] of this Santa because it looks like it's like a subway like it's just you know it's just moving
[00:32:57] really you hop on at one station you sit on Santa's lap and then you get off it yes 100% take
[00:33:04] dangerous but there is a drinking game to take place in this movie two of them take a shot
[00:33:09] anytime someone says heavily spiked egg now at least four sharp hands with heavily spiked egg now
[00:33:15] if you want to take a shot anytime someone says empire or or winners go or what is code
[00:33:21] you know like you know you forget about yeah if you take those three you're going to go to the
[00:33:25] hospital alcohol boys forget about you're gonna be in trouble yes he does this bit where she
[00:33:31] does come over after they meet and he's he gives her a gift and he's like oh my gosh he gave me a
[00:33:36] gift uh he's like yeah I keep one just in case anyone ever comes over which is a great line
[00:33:43] and then she opens it up and it shoots confetti at her face and I just couldn't stop laughing at
[00:33:49] the thought of this happening to him once and being like I got to get a ton of those
[00:33:54] for like just in case just in case I need to be prepped because this is hilarious oh he's got a
[00:34:02] whole closet of nuts cans and have like a nace a prop closet 100% he has a prop closet um so there
[00:34:10] is a scene where they are lost they're running her in Preston and they end up in this rough part
[00:34:17] of town and these guys come up and they're trying to you know getting into some trouble there
[00:34:23] and Preston shows up and it's like hey guys back off I'm crazy miles show that sorry miles
[00:34:28] yeah miles shows up and it's like hey guys I'm crazy I've got a reindeer hood on blah blah and
[00:34:34] the guys run off and he saves today and they're like how did you find us and his explanation is
[00:34:39] quote when I saw you were missing I heard these hoods could be pretty rough and that's the end of
[00:34:46] the explanation so he just was just walking around the neighborhood's all the hoods for these
[00:34:56] hoods could be pretty rough a guy telling you that you clumsiness has to go should be the the
[00:35:04] thing that is like hey man you're probably like that's just like can you do that can you just
[00:35:10] like if you're clumsy or clumsy like you can be more careful but some people are just just the way
[00:35:14] it is sometime to say it has to go as a prerequisite has to go relationship with me right and I
[00:35:22] just do want to point out that macy gray showed up for three scenes and to say voodoo daddy do
[00:35:27] and we're all better for it uh Dana um you can take this one of the tape we didn't have time the movie
[00:35:32] was like in the Lawrence of Arabia and links but the I'm pretty sure in this movie and I'm not
[00:35:39] positive but crazy of true that miles says to uh what's the leads name in your own Lauren
[00:35:47] Lauren Miles says to Lauren you know the saying with good power comes great responsibility
[00:35:54] no that is not it is what no no spot it's very clearly there's a great great equality here great power
[00:36:04] great responsibility if you are given good power you don't have to have great responsibility that's
[00:36:10] how that works responsibility will do but how do you met like that line is is pretty like synonymous
[00:36:16] just with culture like that's in the zeitgeist like uh like that line had you second guessing
[00:36:22] everything you thought you knew about Spider-Man like I've stopped him was it is it that's from
[00:36:26] spider-Man right are they right have I been wrong this all time sheesh you know you know how
[00:36:33] Bogart says here's looking at you ma'am like I don't like well I don't know what you want for me
[00:36:41] it's said in literally every spider-Man everything with good power man good power how's tough um
[00:36:49] miles she at one point Lauren questions if miles is a stalker or a serial killer and rightfully so
[00:36:55] my man has a presence in case anyone comes over they just pops up confetti and carries around a
[00:37:01] groucho marks uh disguised in his bathrobe um I'll take my chances with the stalker um just let you
[00:37:09] know straight up that guy there's not enough funny in the world I don't care you you know I don't
[00:37:13] care but Dan he's an adult who tells riddles that's right but ladies if you're looking for a funny guy
[00:37:18] even you would probably be like that is no longer funny I I have questions but he claims he's not a
[00:37:24] serial killer or a stalker because uh they don't dance bad basically he's like I'm too bad a dancer
[00:37:34] to be a stalker a serial killer which I guess means that if you are like a notoriously good dancer
[00:37:40] you're more likely to be a stalker or serial killer so you think you can dance serial killer
[00:37:45] after season is the best season and every season that's right Ted Bundy his nickname was twinkle
[00:37:51] that's right exactly he's one of the background extras in a footloose if you have to really look
[00:37:58] at this one close they give you several views of it uh they put miles his room at this
[00:38:02] at this like resort hotel whatever right next to Lawrence room and every time he opens his room
[00:38:10] you see a lot of Christmas decorations but if you look closely you will notice it is a bathroom
[00:38:15] there is a wall at the end of the the there's a counter on the left that they've covered in Christmas
[00:38:22] stuff but if you look closely you'll see the edge of a sink and then at the end of that counter
[00:38:27] is a wall it is so clearly and if it's not I want somebody who worked on the movie to show me some
[00:38:34] evidence it is clear that they made some hotel or some houses bathroom a room that they needed
[00:38:42] and that's why you never see any more of it ever the rest of the movie I have an adjunct to that
[00:38:48] do you notice on the door to Lawrence office that it has what's the thing that's on top with the
[00:38:55] metal like it you know there's doors are you just open and close but this one has like the
[00:39:01] the thing that makes it close automatically yeah yeah why in her office like is she in a hallway
[00:39:08] like I was confused her office room is massive I'm sorry I don't like some kind of fit all those trees
[00:39:14] I'm sort of think some of these locations may not have been accurate but honestly like kudos to them
[00:39:19] though for making it work yeah like you had what you had and they did it whatever movie we saw
[00:39:24] a two week in the way like that that movie like the filmmaking quality of this movie's miles
[00:39:29] better than that movie but that movie's way shorter and has some humdingers in it's uh at one
[00:39:36] point Raven says that she split up with her fiance a few months ago and then no matter how hard
[00:39:42] she tried she just couldn't get back into it may it's only been a couple of months right
[00:39:47] like you know you know you spend a long time with someone you get attached to them like maybe take
[00:39:52] time for you like maybe you not being able to get back onto the dating scene a two months after
[00:39:58] you broke up with your fiance is your body's way of telling you like you're not you're not ready I don't
[00:40:06] and and then subsequently she hops back into a relationship with winners code so clearly like she's
[00:40:11] got some issues she's got some issues and then lastly I cannot this one was the one this one was
[00:40:16] the one I couldn't get over they get lost pressed in and Lauren get lost in this movie like they cannot
[00:40:22] find their way back to the hotel resort wherever well there's a couple problems with this like
[00:40:27] one they planned this entire event two they get lost on a race so while running a race in
[00:40:36] Christmas gear they plan the route of the race like everybody's there yes everyone is there
[00:40:42] they are winning the group race that they planned in an event that they planned did they run into
[00:40:51] some drugs somewhere how did they get lost and are there neighborhoods in New Orleans that are so
[00:40:58] bad that they have no cell phone covers whatsoever in New Orleans you plan the event you plan the race
[00:41:05] you're winning the race you got lost how so it's gonna be pretty rough which also I think
[00:41:12] call some of the larger thing which is they are the organizers of this event yeah they feel like
[00:41:16] for the integrity of the event they need to participate in everything it's just like why are you all
[00:41:20] trying to win contest of a thing you recognize when the guests should be the ones weighing it's a mess
[00:41:27] to mess that's all I got it is time for the bed on it's where we wonder what could have been maybe
[00:41:34] having some clear any questions that we still have along so anything you're still wondering about
[00:41:39] well I think it's great that Miles wants to graduate up from being a veterinarian technician
[00:41:44] as he keeps saying it to an actual veterinarian but that is a lengthy and expensive process
[00:41:51] and you just are winning have these on a house and so I'm just wondering through and she just
[00:41:58] quit her job in advertising so I just would like to know are there scholarships for funny
[00:42:05] dudes in their 30s who want to become bats like I this movie is biting off a lot and again
[00:42:11] so often we end these with well no one's employed now so what happens yeah he brings up one of
[00:42:17] those confetti presents to the interview for the scholarship I got you guys something that'd be
[00:42:23] that would do it one I do want to know at what point macy gray got involved in this project because
[00:42:29] it's such a small part but she did weasel her way onto the beautiful poster for this movie
[00:42:36] so at what point was it like we got to get macy gray in here she gets the and she gets the and
[00:42:41] she gets the end the nmacy gray but my bigger question is the timeline in which this movie takes place
[00:42:46] because there is a world in which this movie takes place over the course of four years there's a
[00:42:51] a world where this takes place in one year and I'm not sure which is which the
[00:42:57] the that I feel like we do spend almost an eternity on the day of christmas Eve but I'm not sure if
[00:43:04] it's one christmas I don't know I'm foggy on how long of the timeline is here in this movie but
[00:43:10] it could be any number of things data she well she is assigned to like create this app and create
[00:43:18] the contest and she's already got her christmas decorations out yeah so either she's like brand
[00:43:24] and put some up in mid-October or it just all happens real fast that she breaks up with miles
[00:43:31] creates the contest goes on the trip all in one christmas season but there's also like the start
[00:43:36] of the movie takes place on christmas it's at least two years so it takes place on Christmas Eve and
[00:43:41] then I think they spend a year getting to know each other yeah I think yeah and then he proposes
[00:43:46] proposes I don't know if all of those are christmas as it could release four five years
[00:43:51] because does he does he then propose on the following Christmas and then they break up at Christmas
[00:43:56] yeah and yeah I thought I thought it was like it was the the following year was everything was
[00:44:01] the proposal break up the trip they both work yeah they both work both the both favorites don't ask
[00:44:08] don't ask uh yeah so I my question is about the song that is attached to this movie
[00:44:17] it's clearly just been made for this movie um it is a song I would love to never hear again
[00:44:21] because it will be you can listen to it it's by Antonio Butler okay so that answers one of my
[00:44:27] questions but my other is like did they make was this for this movie it has to be yeah it is um and
[00:44:33] how I would love to know just a background on it because it is in just an absolute earworm like
[00:44:38] you can't it's not good but you can't get it out of your head but why is it not the title of
[00:44:44] the movie yeah also do you know who would have done a really great version of it
[00:44:48] basically we yes in original song and a karaoke sequence with no
[00:44:53] or remember saying got a pocket full of sunshine because they're very similar
[00:44:59] Natasha Beddingfield yeah I'm gonna fucking never gonna be uh don't fuck yeah I would have
[00:45:03] I would have done that yeah yeah that's what we should do right we did everybody congratulations
[00:45:08] we're gonna be back next week and Alonzo you've turned us on to this and I think it's the
[00:45:12] perfect time to do this you saw a theatrical release last year a little indie called uh there's
[00:45:19] something in the barn is that the name of the movie yes and it is now out on the streaming I believe
[00:45:25] it is streaming on the Netflix and so we are going to check out a little indie theatrical fun time
[00:45:32] from 2023 that you and I missed I think it's there's some horror elements of it correct Alonzo
[00:45:38] yes but it's also a comedy I love it very excited about it so check that out we'll be back and do
[00:45:43] that next week until then may we be the first to wish you a Merry Christmas
