BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS

The movie kicks off with Santa doing Santa stuff. Checking that list twice. Looking at a globe to see if anything's changed. You know the stuff.

We meet Grandpa Nicolas decorating his house for the first Christmas since his wife passed away. His daughter Cassie shows up with her husband James and son Terence and they all start to decorate the tree. Little Terence pulls out a Santa ornament. Grandpa insists there's one more ornament in there that goes with Santa. Sure enough, there is one more ornament of some random dude. Terence is like who is this? Grandpa Nicolas is like well have I got a story for you.

Before Santa was Santa, he was Saint Nicolas, a Christian Bishop and Patron Saint of Children who would travel around, giving presents to children. One day he is arrested by the Spanish government who suspect he is actually a spy and their concerns only grow when they discover that he carries around a book called The Book of Life that has a ton of names in it and stuff about each of those people. Gotta be honest...sounds like a spy.

While in jail, he meets a guy named Peter who is shocked when this old dude knows his name and knows that he wants to travel the world. When Pete finds out that he's St. Nicolas, they spend the night talking, and Pete decides to bust St. Nick out.

They become partners and years later they decide to head to the New World. Before they leave they are approached by a dude who wants them to find someone named Elizabeth Van Olden to give her an engagement ring and a promise to join her as soon as he can.

Santa and Pete are shocked to find out that the New World is not the perfect paradise they had heard about. People are too busy to celebrate Christmas and there's hostility between the settlers and the Native Americans.

There's no open lodging for the famous Santa and Pete, so they're forced to sleep in a barn for the night where they find a little girl named Marlene. She tells them that she lost her parents while they were building a cabin in the woods. Santa promises that they'll find her parents and Pete is like whoa that's a big promise.

Santa and Pete meet with the governor to ask for help finding Marlene's parents. He tells them that the Native Americans took them and he's planning an attack. So that's not great.

On Christmas Eve, they travel by carriage and reindeer to go visit the Dangola family, including Janet who Pete thinks is FINEEEEE.

On the way back, they are stopped by the Native Americans. They say they've been waiting for the man with the white beard to fulfill the prophecy. Santa requests they return Marlene's parents and they give Santa a bright red coat.

Santa and Pete begin delivering presents and find that the village boot boy has made Nick some black leather boots.

Arriving at the governor's house they realize there are no traditional wooden clogs to put gifts in and end up going down the chimney and leaving gifts in stockings instead. They also meet the governor's maid, who turns out to be Elizabeth Van Olden, and after giving her the engagement ring she gives Nick a bright red hat.

Returning to the Dangola house, the Native Americans appear with Marlene's parents. The snow starts to come down super heavy and they're now unable to navigate the snow in their carriage. Maria's husband, Big Manuel, replaces the wheels with runners, transforming it into a sleigh, now with 6 reindeer. As Santa and Pete leave, the sleigh suddenly lifts into the sky and they fly away into the night.

Back in the present, Terence wakes up in the middle of the night and finds that the Book of Life is in the living room. He finds his name inside and finds out that he is related to Pete. But when he tries to tell Grandpa Nicolas, the book disappears and he cannot remember anything he read. Classic Santa.

[00:00:01] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast Hi, I'm Brandon I love Ryguy's favorite Christmas movies Hi, I'm Ry Guy and I love Ryguy's favorite Christmas movies I'm Dan, Ryguy's a dear friend who's a wonderful personality If you meet him, you're better for it His movies suck This is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast That was too hard That was too hard, Dan

[00:00:41] I meant to be rewarded with Ryguy Every word? You are a better human if you get the opportunity to meet Ryan Popola He's a ray of sunshine who is thoughtful and joyous And just one of the best people And I mean that from the heart Very sweet, I feel the same way about you Thank you, I appreciate that Despite your take on this film upcoming I feel the same way about you I'm doing the best I can with what I got I did watch this by myself On a Monday morning Or I believe a Monday morning

[00:01:12] Yeah, I did And I did the best I could Sometimes watching it with my buddy Brian helps a little bit So maybe that was the problem We are talking about Santa and Pete today This was another movie Of course that Ryguy brought to the table Ry Guy, give us Obviously this is not the hot take segment But give us a little backstory Why Santa and Pete? Where does this land on your watching calendar? Yeah, this is pretty late This one can vary

[00:01:39] But it's definitely always within the last four or five days Week of Christmas Week of Christmas It can, depending on how the schedule falls This Christmas With Idris Elba This Christmas Which I pitched Which I don't know Dan, have you ever seen This Christmas? I don't even There's a Hallmark or TV movie called This Christmas Sure, I'm sure it's a popular name for a film Can I ask you I would love to review This Christmas with you I have not seen This Christmas the 2007

[00:02:09] Because I also have not watched This Christmas Really, really good Idris Elba? Yeah My hesitancy Look at that cast man Chris Brown? Yeah We will Well, that's unfortunate But yeah That's My hesitancy was We got three weeks We've got two made for TVs Throwing a theatrical boy in there Let's just keep it the made for TV route But I love doing This Christmas at some point Yeah, I mean Delroy Lindo Delroy Lindo is a national treasure Man Yeah I need to see this movie

[00:02:38] Have you seen it? I've not seen This Christmas Oh man Yeah Loretta Devine? Oh my god For the past few years It's been my If I have time Here are some It's in like the new The ones that I have not seen list That I just haven't gotten to yet Man So I pitched that Didn't Brand said Let's go with Santa and Pete But No, no, no It was always gonna be Santa and Pete If I got robbed of It was probably always gonna be Grandma's house at Santa and Pete If I got robbed of

[00:03:08] This Christmas for Santa and Pete No, you got robbed We're gonna throw hands You got robbed This Christmas for Dan, I think you would like it But like more than anything I just would have really wanted to hear you talk about it You got robbed for this Christmas For Christmas song Oh Okay Anyway, why Santa and Pete? I possibly saw this on first airing On CBS I vividly But even if it wasn't first airing I know The first time I watched this was On CBS In primetime

[00:03:36] On a Sunday night I watched it with my mom In my childhood home living room But after that brand It was Where it's streaming everywhere now For many years I wondered if I made this film up Because like it was not Like it was not Possible to find Especially it comes out in 99 So like I'm not really on the internet Until you know 06, 07 And so it wasn't Big on reruns Or at least not That I ever stumbled across And until I could do

[00:04:06] An internet search To find out that there was Physical media And then it took me I think a year or two To find the physical media It wasn't like plentiful You know back then Just like It wasn't just easy To go on Amazon Necessarily And buy a VHS Or a DVD So I went like A long period of time Without having saw this But once I went back to it It clearly Has earned its place In the pantheon for me Of a week of Christmas And I'll save the rest That's a big week That's a big week Yeah This is what I'll say Because I also watched it as a kid

[00:04:35] This was a movie That for reasons I don't really know It did get recorded To the VHS And when the holiday season Do you still have that? No I mean my parents might I think they got I'd love the old commercials on it That would actually Absolutely But my When the holiday season Would come I don't know if you know this But I would want to get A jump on things I would want to start Watching things But a lot of the You know Christmas classics The jingle all the way If you will The jingle all the way If you will

[00:05:05] I I I couldn't I wasn't allowed To watch those Without my family So there were A handful of things That I Had at my disposal That I could watch That no one else In my family Cared if I watched They didn't care about Santa and Pete And so Santa and Pete Was one of those movies That for a few years I would watch To kickstart the holiday season Because no one else In my family cared If I watched it without them So I have seen this movie And I've seen it a few times But I had not seen it

[00:05:34] In a very long time And I think it had been A good 20 years probably Would be my guess Dan when was the last time You had seen it I had never heard Of this film Okay And then I watched it At my house Alright We'll talk about it Three days ago Let me tell you all About this movie Santa and Pete As Ryguy mentioned A CBS movie But not a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie It's not one of those It's a Made for TV movie

[00:06:04] That did air on CBS This isn't even Triple A Hall of Fame Whoa December 5th 1999 I don't know If it was a Sunday Ryguy's gonna have A hard time this week Oh let's check What was the date brand December 5th 1999 What day of the week Was December 5th 1999 Was it a Sunday I bet it was It was a Sunday Yeah so I saw this On first air It's too much First rip And it went a little

[00:06:32] Something like this The movie kicks off With Santa Doing Santa stuff Checking that list twice Looking at a globe To see if it changed You know Santa stuff We didn't meet Grandpa Nicholas But not that Fury No Got it Not Grandpa Nicholas Fury I do want to see That movie Oh heck yeah Decorating his house For the first Christmas Since his wife Passed away His daughter Cassie Shows up with her Husband James And their son

[00:07:02] The real star Of this movie Terrence And they all start To decorate the tree Together And little Terrence Pulls out a Santa Ornament And Grandpa Insists that there Must be one more Ornament down there That goes with Santa Sure enough There is one more Ornament of some Random dude That Terrence Doesn't know Terrence is like Who is this guy Grandpa Nicholas Is like Well have I got A story for you Before Santa Was Santa He was Saint Nicholas A Christian bishop And patron saint Of children

[00:07:31] Who would travel around Giving presents To children We know the story We know We know the historical figure Yes One day He was arrested By the Spanish government Who suspect That he is actually A spy And their concerns Only grow When they discover That he carries around What he calls The book of life Which is a book That contains A ton of names Not that book of life A ton of names I know I heard it Immediately I know He has this

[00:08:00] A ton of names And stuff about Each of these people Gotta be honest Does sound like a spy While in jail He meets a cook Named Peter Who is shocked When this old dude Knows his name And knows that he Wants to travel the world When Pete finds out That he's Saint Nicholas They spend the night Talking and Pete decides To bust Saint Nick Out of jail They become partners And years later They decide to head

[00:08:30] To the New Worlds Before they leave They get approached By a dude Who wants him To deliver something To an Elizabeth Van Olden An engagement ring And a promise To join her As soon as he can Santa and Pete Are shocked To find out That the New World Is not this perfect paradise That they have heard about People are too busy To celebrate Christmas And there's hostility Between the settlers And the Native Americans There's no open lodging For the famous

[00:08:59] Santa and Pete And so they are forced To sleep in a barn For the night Where they find A little girl Named Marlene She tells them That she lost her parents In the woods While they are building A cabin Santa promises That they will find Her parents And Pete is like Whoa That's a big promise Santa and Pete Meet the governor To ask for help Finding Marlene's parents He tells them That the Native Americans Took them And that he's Planning an attack So that's not great

[00:09:29] On Christmas Eve They travel by carriage And reindeer But on land To go and visit The Dengola family Including Janet Who Pete thinks Is fine On the way back They are stopped By the Native Americans They say That they've been waiting For a man with a white beard To fulfill the prophecy Santa requests That they return Marlene's parents And they respond By giving Santa

[00:09:59] A bright red coat With a white trim Huh Interesting Huh Santa and Pete Begin delivering presents And find out That the village Boot boy Has made Nick Some black leather boots So Arriving at the governor's house They realize that There's no traditional Wooden clogs On the outside Of the governor's house

[00:10:28] And so they have to Go down the chimney Huh Apparently They're not gonna leave They don't have to They're not doing Clogs anymore Clogs are out And so they're gonna leave Put stuff in stockings Instead They also meet The governor's maid Who happens to be Elizabeth Van Olden And Santa gives her The engagement ring And she As a thank you Gives Nick A bright red hat Huh

[00:10:57] What Returning to the Dangola house The Native Americans Appear out of the woods With Marlene's parents The snow Starts to come down Super heavy And they are now Unable to navigate The snow In the carriage Maria's husband Big Manuel Big Manuel Replaces Big Manuel Big Manuel No you said Big Manuel You started to say Big Manuel And you corrected Big Manuel Big Manuel

[00:11:26] Replaces the wheels With runners Transforming it Into a sleigh Now with six reindeer And as Sand and Pete Leave The sleigh Suddenly lifts up Into the sky And they fly away Into the night Huh Big Manuel Big Manuel Shout out Back in the present Terrence wakes up In the middle of the night And finds the book of life Is in the living room On a chair He finds his name inside And finds out That he can

[00:11:56] Trace his name back To Pete Huh But when he tries To tell Grandpa Nicholas The book disappears And he cannot Remember anything That he read Classic Santa stuff And that my friends Was Santa And Pete We Did it How was that It was great man I A steady improvement I thought that you Yeah Steady improvement You colored a lot more In this time As opposed to last week I felt like

[00:12:25] I got all the details To Grandmother Southswickau Yeah No We can talk about it offline But you did well here You're gonna give me notes I love this No Separate pod please Separate pod Let's Yeah There's a Show that will come out In early August Where Rye Guy gives me Notes on my synopses Synopses of 30 year old movies You've only listened to that You've only listened to that They'd love it We'll rank them Alright let's take a break We will come back We'll talk about Santa and Pete

[00:12:55] Here on Deck the Hallmark Hi Welcome back It's great to be here today We're talking about some of Rye Guy's favorite Christmas movies And we are on Santa and Pete Yeah man A Christmas week movie For Rye Guy A movie that I had seen before But haven't seen in a long time Let's break it down We'll start with the hot take That's where we share exactly What I felt about this movie Do you not hold back

[00:13:24] And I'll start with you Rye Guy Rye Guy Santa and Pete Tell us about it Yeah an absolute ripper of a film So We just actually copied and pasted his take From the frame of the house We go and just placed it right in there Didn't we An absolute ripper So my hot take Yeah My hot take is that And I don't even think this is going to be debatable Best Santa origin story I think ever Like Well no Dan give me a better one

[00:13:53] Give me it genuinely I will say Give me a better Santa origin story I have to look it up Because I typically think That all Santa origin story movies Are kind of trash Klaus on Netflix Does that count? That's good That is You can't even see Santa and Pete from Klaus It's amazing Yeah Maybe I'll watch it today Yeah Happy Christmas in July Klaus With Tim Allen Not necessarily an origin story If that counts as an origin story No Well that doesn't count I don't think it counts Yeah If anything I would

[00:14:23] That's the best North Pole though right Oh yeah That's the North Pole Yeah It is the North Pole Yeah It is the North Pole Yeah This takes the time I would say I just googled it And the five names they gave me Are either movies That I've not seen From way back when Or they're like Rankin Pass It's better than Santa Claus is coming to town But But the one that they do mention Is Klaus From 2019 And it is an absolute Ripper of a movie I'll report back Yes please do No one dislikes

[00:14:52] This is an absolute Ripper of a movie Right guy Nobody dislikes Klaus Yeah Okay I'll give it a watch I'm very excited But it takes the time To as brand Very well I thought Very very well laid out Thank you It addresses basically Every bit of lore That you could want to And I'm not saying They're all perfect But especially as a nine year old I was like Like you know I didn't know any better I was like oh wow This is all how This all came together I probably still thought Santa Well never mind But You're still into Santa then huh

[00:15:22] Neither here nor there As to just edit that Are you still into Santa Yeah I'm still into Santa You still Yeah Santa Santa rules Santa rocks Yeah Hume Cronin Is a great Santa I think him And Flex Alexander Who plays Pete Have a really Fun and natural Chemistry That really Carries the film I imagine the venerable James Earl Jones Did this as a favor To someone But he's Unsurprisingly

[00:15:51] Wonderful here And I think all the stuff That takes place At his house Just feels And looks Like Christmas Yeah it's Again Much like To Grandmother's House We Go It's you know It's a Fun Simple film But in this case Unlike To Grandmother's House We Go I actually think They are trying to Accomplish something And even if I Even if I love Klaus Like they were like Hey we're gonna try to Check every single Bullet point off the list

[00:16:20] In terms of how This came to be How this myth Came to be And I think they do A very very good job Of it Overall Brand for me An underrated gem I love this movie So it would be how The legend came to be Because it's true Not how the myth No the myth I misspoke It's early I went for a long walk This morning I just think As Santa guys It's important No I I can misspeak It I understand So yes I had not seen Santa and Pete In a long time My biggest takeaway

[00:16:49] Was way more Native American stuff Than I remember So there is that Native Americans That refer to themselves As Indians Yeah they do do that I I guess I appreciate If they are going To go to The new world They do acknowledge That wasn't great So that's nice But yeah That stuff You know I didn't love A lot of that stuff And But I agree with Ryguy I thought the chemistry

[00:17:18] Between Santa and Pete Is electric And did make this movie Go by relatively quick For me I really liked Those two together I thought they had A really fun dynamic I did appreciate All the lore stuff Getting to see the things A lot of the The huh I did do that While watching this movie I was like Oh I see what they're doing here So there is that Yeah I I Did not love it As much as I did When I was a kid But I did still really enjoy The viewing of this movie

[00:17:48] There's a lot about it That I really enjoyed And Santa and Pete I don't know if it'll become A yearly staple with me But Unlike To Grandmother's House We Go I would be More than willing To re-watch this movie again Dano Yeah I I Ryan I love you And I I don't I don't want you to Leave sad This is one of the worst This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen Whoa It is That's strong It isn't I Like I Like So Zwarte Pete Is a

[00:18:17] Is a Netherlands Character Where Up until about Five or ten years ago Dutch people Would dress in blackface As a weird Part of this story And it was a big pushback And they finally Stopped doing that I do feel like This movie is By casting James Earl Jones Is trying to reclaim This character That's right In a really good way And that is the Absolute best thing I can say about this movie Which at times Feels like A really

[00:18:46] Really magical Black person movie Made for white people Where we do not Have much respect For Anyone In 1999 And I can see How nine year old Ryan didn't see any of that And saw an origin story Of Santa And that's fine I think Hume Cronin Hume Cronin Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a doubt Hume Cronin From the 1940s Finds himself in a CBS Santa movie In 1999 Which I couldn't believe

[00:19:15] I think he's a terrible Santa Like actively awful I did not think Their dynamic worked at all Really? At all Wow I By and large Moving moment to moment From this movie Knowing Knowing That when the Dutch Settle New Amsterdam In the 1600s They do so with only White people and slaves Knowing That they fought Indians Called them Indians And natives would have Never called themselves Indians I'm sorry I wasn't nine When I saw it This movie sucks

[00:19:45] It was offensive And I didn't like it at all And Mary-Kate and Ashley Rule compared to this movie The only saving grace For this movie Which is my feels And I hate to get ahead Of myself We're doing things Out of order these days Let's go to the feels Dan The only saving grace To this movie Is that And I'm really sorry Right guy I don't want to ruin Your time I'm not trying I just like This movie was If I Under any other Circumstances I would have turned it off In the first ten minutes Under any other circumstances I just

[00:20:14] Everything about it I hated But Aside from I would listen to James Earl Jones Explain anything To anyone Full stop So like James Earl Jones Talking to a five year old At Christmas time With the hue Of the lights In that house Is magical And I Full stop And so Like When James Earl Jones Says the word Baseball In Field of Dreams Or in Sandlot I get chills Just him saying

[00:20:44] The word Baseball Right This guy Is a legend Like he's an Absolute legend And so There was some There was some Like real feels To be had In those Unfortunately Not long enough Or big enough Scenes in this movie But aside from that I just I don't This is It's not like It's 1979 It's 1999 I don't know How we did this I don't know How we did this And made this movie

[00:21:14] A year before Y2K And I I just don't And I And I Really Really Really Really Did not like it But James Earl Jones Talking to his Grandson Great Ryguy Any feels for you Yeah the end sequence Really gets me I You know To the James Earl Jones Point of it Specifically The house looks And feels like Christmas It does I don't disagree with that I don't disagree with that I guess And I'm not here Because I Listen Obviously when it comes

[00:21:43] To the historical significance I agree with everything You said So I'm literally Just asking a question Genuinely Yeah What would the Magical black man Trope have been From your POV Is it James Earl Jones No it's Pete Pete has no Pete Oh Okay Magical doesn't mean They have magical powers Right That trope in a movie Is like The one Black character That guides The white Guy Who has the power Along his way Gotcha That's the trope

[00:22:12] You know Legend of Bagger Vance A great example Yes You know Like a great Like that's a Modern example That's a great Easy one But this is a Very famous trope And I will say Like I think the movie Which You know I think the movie Doesn't believe It's doing that Because it has James Earl Jones Talking to his family And telling the story From a black perspective So I Like I will say that I will say that Like I do think the movie Is Believes it to be Covering its bases

[00:22:41] I don't I can't imagine This movie In 1999 Like existing Personally Would you say It's kind of like I always defend Like Pocahontas Like I think their heart Was in the right place Like would you say It's in that So a lot of times With those Like Pocahontas A tough watch But that movie Is earlier I think Four years earlier But I think That they were I'm not That doesn't defend That the historical Inaccuracies Are the parts That aren't great But I think Pocahontas Visually is a master Like I can't say What I would normally say You can listen to This is not a weapon Wherever you find

[00:23:11] Fine podcasts But like If the crap Is baked into the cake It's impossible To take it out Right So like With a story like Pocahontas If it's told From a white man's Perspective The crap Is baked into the cake They can do as good A job as they want Decorating that cake And making it As palatable as possible But they're still Making They have a bad cake Right So like I would apply that To this movie In the same way But that is not I'm not sitting here To make anyone feel guilty About enjoying it When they were nine years old

[00:23:40] I don't think you're doing that No okay Okay But I just Like I can't believe This was made When it was made I You know But I do think Having James Earl Jones there That at least fixes That half of it The Native American side Of it Is tough Sledding Yes I mean Oh my god It's tough sledding I mean It does become a sled Yeah Nicely done This is your feels Brand And then no You haven't given Your feels Oh I have not Given my feels

[00:24:09] I have Gone on and on About How I don't believe Nautilus exists I think It's just It's silly And I thought That they handled That really well This kid This kid This guy This guy Who I believe Is Babette's husband In Gilmore Oh yeah Is talking about Hey Give my kids some coals So that they know That they're not being good I can't do anything about it And then Pete Really Kindly

[00:24:38] Redirects him And is like No there actually Is no Nautilus I don't know How that got started Every kid is basically good And I really appreciated That message Flex Alexander Probably should have Been more famous I think he's quite good Like he's very charming And like Feels relatable I don't feel like He did too too much After this Maybe I'm wrong He felt to me Like he had watched The Will Smith movies Of the previous three years And was doing a bit I never got good From him at all But I didn't get that Let's take a break We'll come back We'll get to the way What and the

[00:25:08] The Hallmark Here on The Hallmark Welcome back Hi everyone It's great to be here today We're talking about Santa and Pete One of Ryguy's Favorite Christmas movies And a movie that Dan detested Let's get to the Wait what Where we talk about What in this movie And it's going What I'll start with you Ryguy Who compiled

[00:25:37] The Book of Life Now I don't want to Get too metaphysical Here or too existential But who compiled The Book of Life There are That The Book of Life And the The No Room in the Inn Combo Like Is a weird part of this movie Where Santa Also He's a saint by the way He is a saint He does talk about God Yes He makes it clear That he is not God But he does carry around He's working with him The Book of Life There's also no room At the Inn

[00:26:07] That's right For Santa Yeah big man Working with the big man Weird Like weird For sure Parallel tracks here That I found To be intriguing Absolutely Only This is my other one But it's a big one I think about this Every year Now How much Does Terrence Forget How much does Terrence forget Once he sees His name in the book Because I don't want to get Again I don't want to get Too deep here But If he forget He saw his name

[00:26:36] Wouldn't remembering The part of the story Where you go Because James Earl Jones Goes well if you saw your name You wouldn't even remember Like and so You would think Once you'd have that thought And you realize That you forgot What you forgot You'd probably put it together And so Did he forget Did he forget the whole story Does Terrence Does Terrence forget He even exists By December 26th I'm worried about this kid It's a good question Because he does start By saying there was a book Yeah He remembers the book of life

[00:27:06] He remembers the book of life How do you remember that But doesn't remember What's inside of it Yeah that's tough And his grandpa A mere two hours ago Did tell him If you saw your name You wouldn't remember it Right So by saying I don't remember How far does the rabbit hole go Yeah Great question I hope Terrence is okay I hope so too I hope Terrence is okay Sweet Terrence Funny kid Funny kid Kid of the year contender Kid of the year Put him on the board Yeah

[00:27:33] I do love That James Earl Jones Has He is An ancestor Of Pete He has a Pete ornament That he keeps At the bottom Of the ornament box Unprotected Crazy A crazy move Like How many of these Pete ornaments are there I don't know But he keeps I can tell you There's not many Because I've been He keeps it He keeps it Unprotected Yeah

[00:28:03] At the bottom Of the box Wild Wild move Wild move Grandpa Nicholas Is out here Wiling He's just doing He's doing his own thing And then I also At one point Santa I believe he's getting Ready to eat something I think it's maybe At the house For dinner And they tell him To take a deep breath To which he then Smells it And is like That's really good But take a deep breath With the Yeah But what he does He knows what they mean When they say It's an interesting Choice to say

[00:28:33] Take a deep breath You can take a deep breath Through your nose But he's Yeah No but he does Yeah no He probably Take a whiff Why not just say Take a whiff Yeah Why not just say Take a big smell Take a big smell What do you feel About mincemeat pie Are you guys fans Yeah I've never had a choice It's not actually meat Right No it's a lot of other stuff Yeah I've never had one I don't think So Yeah me neither But it does sound scary As a child I thought it was meat And I was like I don't know The name of it Is going to be Keep a lot of people Apply Yes It's one of the One of the three words

[00:29:03] In the name You'd think You'd think Dana Yeah this movie's 86 minutes long And the first two minutes Is legitimately Old men staring at things With no dialogue I In the first two minutes Of this movie I legitimately thought I was having a stroke I was like You know These movies have places To be right Like we get a drone shot And a title card And a music This is two old dudes Just staring at things We don't know why We don't know what

[00:29:32] I Like I thought the run time Was wrong Like that's the That's how a three hour movie Starts A wild way to start this movie Not as wild as what This movie wants us To believe New settlers In New Amsterdam Were like First of all Colonialism Alive and well Second of all The masonry And tile work In this 1630 house Is pristine Really well done Yeah

[00:30:01] There's a chandelier Hanging from a vaulted ceiling Guys In 1630 Even in New Amsterdam Which is now Manhattan Sure Houses were like Wooden structures With like Thatched roofs If you were very Welty You had a wooden house With a thatched roof There is tile work And a chandelier Hanging from a vaulted ceiling In this movie And we Are supposed to believe This is the era Of like The Jamestown colony Um I don't even know

[00:30:30] How we're supposed to Like Why wouldn't they Just make It look Just close To the era That they're trying To make us believe It is Like I I couldn't This house Is so nice Guys People could live In this house Today Um So that was A really big one And then lastly Extra kick juice Um They say there's A little something Extra In the In the drink And then the Reindeer get a hold Of it And I thought It was alcohol

[00:31:00] And the reindeer Are not going to be able To ride the slide But the reindeer After drinking this Go Go real Reindeer go real fast Reindeer go real fast What was in it What was in What was in it What Like what do you mean Extra It's the 1600s What is the extra kick Of which we are speaking They didn't put a jolt cola In there What's in it I believe Something for the sequel And you would You would think At the very least Santa

[00:31:30] Had Like Clearly he does this Every year It's not a one and done Yeah They don't Yeah They gotta make More extra kick juice Does he make Does he give them Give them extra kick juice Every Christmas I don't know man You think What do you think Maybe Maybe big man well Like Provide some to the North Pole Man well Big man well Big man well Anything else That's it It's time for What the hallmark Questions that we have That we'd like Some answers to I'm gonna start With you right guy Yeah I would I said it a second ago

[00:31:59] I would really like Exact replica Santa and Pete Ornaments that they Have at the end Of this film They don't exist As best I can tell And maybe that's To be serious Maybe that's for Some of the reasons That Dan touched upon I don't know But like you know As a nine year old Who watched the movie I was like oh wow That would be cool Like I really connected With these characters And as best I mean they don't exist They were custom made For the props For the set design So they never remade them That's it Yeah I don't believe They were ever

[00:32:28] Never mass produced As official movie merchandise To be fair It's a made for TV movie Like why would they Do that They do not Officially exist We gotta contact This prop person Maybe they have them Prop master Prop master Yeah Wow So if anyone wants To get on that for me That'd be great So I have brought Something today Dan Okay You wanna go first So you can No it was fine Okay So I'm watching this movie The movie starts With some music And I'm like This music sounds familiar But I thought It was just because

[00:32:58] I had seen the movie before But then It's gonna blow your mind Dan The more that they play This score I'm like No I don't know this song From this movie I know it from a movie That came out a few years earlier Miracle on 34th Street Which I do watch Every year I love the 90s Miracle on 34th Street Matilda Right Yeah But The song used In Miracle on 34th Street And the song used in Santa and Pete Composed by different composers But I do want you to hear

[00:33:27] The insane similarities Between these tracks Okay So this Is Miracle on 34th Street Okay This is how the movie starts Great bells Right Yeah Got it Yep Nice And this Is Santa and Pete Pretty darn close Oh my gosh Santa and Pete's better

[00:33:57] But yes Very I'm saying that objectively But yeah From the bells To the swell Of the timpani To the melody Of the track That's crazy It's so close The second one's just like an octave up Yeah And it's like a little different With the melody But it is so close I couldn't believe it What are the odds You know sometimes I'm not saying it was malicious But sometimes you hear something And then you take it And you're like This is a new thing And then you get sued Man I mean that's like When I The first time I heard

[00:34:27] The Pirates of the Caribbean score I'm like it's Gladiator Right Like it's the same exact score What turns out they're both Hans Zimmer Yeah That's Different These are two different composers This is probably just plagiarism Queen David Bowie Within this Those are different Dun dun dun dun You see that It goes up You get it Yeah You see that And once you hear it You can't unhear it It's totally different That's right So I don't want to accuse Anybody of anything But I do just want to know How that happened Because Crazy Crazy What happened there

[00:34:56] Dano Yeah I I want to know How Dwayne Dunham Got this beat Dwayne Dunham Dwayne Dunham D-com guy Was this the start Of his made for TV Because he did some No Brink's before this Yeah Brink's before this So this is So this guy Saw Brink and said We need this guy Like Dwayne Yeah We need this for a Ziarte Pete movie Like this movie Am I wrong Dwayne Dunham did stuff before Like real movies And then somehow

[00:35:26] Ended up doing the Santa and Pete stuff So like Little Giants Yeah Little Giants Like so Dwayne Dunham Couldn't be more white I guess my question is Like there's a world Like for me With With And at Homeward Bound Yeah No no he's a big time Like how did he get this beat But also You know for my kids Like I Have a black nativity You know because I don't know if you know this Jesus was brown skinned In real life The real one So like This story I think this story Of this legend

[00:35:56] That is alongside Santa I think could be powerful For people of color To kind of reclaim That narrative Like why not Make it something Like you would Like if they Like I get it was 99 It was a TV movie So that's probably How Dwayne Dunham Got involved But like You know I think part of my thing Is that this movie Wasn't crafted With any care Towards the culture That I think it's Supposedly trying to prop up Or at least You know rejuvenate And so I want to know how Dwayne Dunham got involved Little Giants Dwayne Dunham Homeward Bound

[00:36:26] Brink Dwayne Dunham Also Halloween Town Not Brink Halloween Town Yeah So he did Halloween Town The 13th year Then Santa and Pete Halloween Town Is still before this So they saw Halloween Town And said yeah This is the guy But also I can't escape this guy He also directed In three episodes Of Twin Peaks Which I'm also He's had a wild career Yeah wild career I can't escape Dwayne Dunham Touches everything But you would If you looked at his filmography Santa and Pete's The craziest one I would be willing To dollars to donuts On that Ready to run Yeah

[00:36:55] Double teamed Double teamed Right How'd Now You See It Tiger Cruz How'd Now You See It Do for you on DCOM rankings He was not a big I was not a huge Now You See It fan But I did love Who's There's One Oh is that Franklin Gella Franklin Gella Is in that movie And he's phenomenal He's like an Oscar Award nominee At least He's amazing Two episodes Of The Clone Wars This guy really has A wild career Which Dwayne Dunham Movie do you find More offensive Santa and Pete Or Tiger Cruz

[00:37:24] Santa and Pete Okay Tiger Cruz I'm still to this day Blown away That they made That movie I like I still But like that was A product of us Being caught up In the moment Of what that Of what not What we thought 9-11 was Versus what it Actually was Whereas this movie Like even in 1999 Dwayne Dunham Sitting down to helm The Santa and Pete CBS movie I I don't know man I gotta think about That a little more I can't wait I can't wait
