[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_03]: When Luke is able to handle that beast, they're all transported to a new pit, a

[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_03]: R2 launches Luke his lightsaber and Luke catches it like a rock star.

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Han so accidentally sends a Boba Fett into the mouth of this sand beast.

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Just as Jabba ship blows up real good.

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_03]: The Emperor finally arrives on DS2 looking to turn Luke, planning on turning Luke to the

[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, back into swamp country for some last minute Jedi wisdom from a dying Yoda.

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_03]: They need a crew.

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_03]: So Han, Leia and Luke volunteer is tribute.

[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_03]: They show up and Vader is immediately onto them and he's like I can sense that Luke

[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_03]: has come in.

[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Luke is like I can sense Vader since me since him once they land.

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_03]: They end up going on a high speed chase because these stormtrooper things are

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_03]: floating on these floating jet skis that can go real fast, real neat.

[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I wish I had one after fighting them off.

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_03]: They're greeted by Ewoks and little teddy bears but meaner until they're not.

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_03]: And they're really nice.

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_03]: The Emperor and Vader talk about the plan.

[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_03]: He's not sure that Vader's motives are clear.

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe hey what's going on with your what's what has your heart?

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_03]: After that they're also captured by Ewoks.

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Luke starts to freak them out by doing like force tricks and they basically start

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_03]: worshiping the gang.

[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_03]: They're like man you guys are awesome doing magic tricks and stuff.

[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_03]: In case you've been wondering why I haven't been like throwing game at you or whatever.

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Throwing game.

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_03]: It's because you're my sister.

[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_03]: We're siblings.

[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I have many leaves to come face to face with his father Darth Vader.

[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_03]: And he tells his father that he is sure that there's still some good within him

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_03]: and tries to convince him to leave with him.

[00:13:53] [SPEAKER_03]: But Vader tells Luke that he doesn't understand the power of the dark side and says that it

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_03]: is too late for him.

[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_03]: He hands him over to the Emperor and then he just kind of sits in his feelings for a

[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_03]: while while looking out into the vast unknown.

[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_03]: The Emperor tells Luke that he done goofed.

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_03]: There's no point in trying to fight the dark side.

[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Also your friends are all walking into a trap.

[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_03]: We knew all this was coming.

[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_03]: He begins to taunt Luke telling him that he can tell that he's getting angry.

[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Give into the anger.

[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Luke is like nah trick I don't do that type of stuff.

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_03]: But then he's like listen not just your friends that are down in the bunker time

[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_03]: or in a trap everybody that's flying around there is a whole things a trap.

[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Luke is so mad he goes to attack the Emperor with his lightsaber but he is stopped

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_03]: by Darth Vader's lightsaber.

[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_03]: As the rebels begin to battle the Empire in space his pals are battling inside the bunker

[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_03]: trying to get down the shield.

[00:14:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Luke has a quite the fight with Darth Vader and ultimately when given the opportunity

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_03]: to kill his father he does not kill his father.

[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_03]: The Emperor is now less than thrilled with Luke's refusal to give into the dark side

[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_03]: and decides hey I can do magic tricks too here's some force lightning in your bones

[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_03]: thunder feel the thunder lightning and the thunder.

[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_03]: But Vader has a change of heart maybe there is some good in him.

[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_03]: He says no you're not going to electrify my child.

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_03]: He tosses the Emperor down this shaft of sorts and that saves Luke just in time

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_03]: for them to have some father son bonding time it is very cute.

[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_03]: It's very sweet.

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Completely with Vader asking Luke to take his mask off.

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Hot Vader summer am I right.

[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_03]: They bond for five minutes until Vader kicks the bucket.

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks to Han and the gang the Death Star shield is down and the rebels blow it up

[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_03]: for good this time and the galaxy erupts in celebration.

[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Luke bids farewell to his father in a nice little bonfire celebration.

[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_03]: While Han and Leia finally talk about hey let's get together let's do this thing

[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_03]: it's official especially now that you're related to Luke I feel safe that we can

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_03]: now officially be together.

[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_03]: The movie ends with the spirits of Obi-Wan Yoda and Anakin Skywalker watching from

[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_03]: No it's a return it's different than coming back.

[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's start with a hot take let's show exactly how he felt about this movie.

[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Ryan what you think?

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to apologize the TV's got in advance.

[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_01]: But I have several buddies who are really big Star Wars fans like top percentile

[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Star Wars fans either.

[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Top percentile?

[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Close to it yeah I have one who's legit a top percentile Star Wars fan and

[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_01]: either my age or at most a couple years older.

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Several of them who cite this as their favorite of not just the original

[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_01]: trilogy but overall.

[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_01]: It's second time I've seen it maybe the third.

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I've only ever seen the remastered cuts as Dan mentioned last week and this is a

[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_01]: plus for me.

[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Probably the first movie ever designed to primarily sell toys.

[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Yep thank you thank you Lucasfilm.

[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_01]: That's right.

[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_01]: You've enhanced my life even if I don't love this franchise.

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_01]: The biggest problem with this film is that it just doesn't feel grand enough

[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_01]: for what should be the conclusion of this massively important massively

[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_01]: life changing none of that's hyperbole franchise and then it would be what

[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_01]: nearly two decades before we got another entry into this this was sold as

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_01]: the end of something and although they tie all of it up I don't know if

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_01]: it was as grand as the end of something like Star Wars should have

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_01]: been.

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_01]: This doesn't start as slow as new hope but it's close.

[00:18:27] [SPEAKER_01]: The first 30 minutes of this film are a real slog until Luke gets that

[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_01]: lightsaber and that action set piece might be the best of the first three

[00:18:36] [SPEAKER_01]: films overall that we've seen it's amazing but to get there is a real

[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_01]: journey.

[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Hans Edge is off in this they've made him a bit of a lighter character

[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_01]: once he gets out of deep freeze I don't love that that's also again

[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_03]: probably a deep freeze will do that too until you experience that you

[00:18:53] [SPEAKER_03]: can't.

[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_01]: God forbid.

[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_01]: You're not using that correctly.

[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_01]: E-locks they're cool.

[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_01]: their mind watch these over and over create lore that wasn't there

[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_01]: when you watch these three weeks in a row there's a lot that's missing for

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_01]: me I don't get the I don't totally get Vader and palpatine to

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_01]: about putting together in terms of like how much.

[00:20:57] [SPEAKER_01]: much more boring Jedi has a lot of low points but the best

[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_01]: moments of Jedi in terms of excitement are better than

[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I disagree with you in the critique that it's not grand enough.

[00:21:11] [SPEAKER_03]: I found this movie to be quite grand the thing the one thing

[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_03]: that I would say I wish was bigger that could have maybe

[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_03]: added to maybe the lack of Grandor that you are describing

[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Now Grandor is one of the moons of indoor.

[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Chuck Palpatine's dog.

[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Grandor on Disney Plus that show rule as show does rule

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_03]: that show does rule can't wait for that D come it's going to be

[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Or season two man I can't wait.

[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_03]: If there was a an Emperor like a Palpatine Darth Vader

[00:22:18] [SPEAKER_03]: battle.

[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_03]: I think that would have added something instead of Darth

[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Vader like there is something to be said of how swiftly

[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Darth Vader protected his son.

[00:22:28] [SPEAKER_03]: I think that there is an argument made like hey the fact

[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_03]: that he did that and just said hey enough of this boom.

[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_03]: That's a powerful moment but to not get these two most

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_03]: powerful people to have some sort of fights.

[00:22:43] [SPEAKER_03]: I think that would have added something to it but I think

[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_03]: part of also what you are feeling Ryan is that first

[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_03]: 35 minutes.

[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Just doesn't need to be it didn't need apparently it wasn't

[00:22:55] [SPEAKER_03]: originally that long.

[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Daniel saying it was shorter but it was still long but it

[00:23:01] [SPEAKER_03]: just like it just I was so long but I felt like after you get

[00:23:06] [SPEAKER_03]: past that first act that the movie kicked it crushed and

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_03]: I thought it was fantastic and as somebody who had never

[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_03]: seen the non remastered version I I found the ending of it

[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_03]: with you know all the Jedi is looking on to be a really

[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_03]: powerful moment and a wonderful way to end it.

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Even though you know I was watching it last night I was

[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_03]: like I bet they changed that because he was there and

[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_03]: that's later so I was able to figure out in my mind crushed

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_03]: it.

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_03]: I know I figured it out eventually but I found the movie

[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_03]: to be really powerful and I thought it was a wonderful

[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_03]: conclusion to this particular trilogy.

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Dan yeah but I do agree with you in of the order I'm going

[00:23:56] [SPEAKER_05]: to end 564 in the same order as Ryan even though I

[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_05]: disagree with a lot of what Ryan said I think when I was

[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_05]: 8 years old this was the best movie in the universe

[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_05]: full stop and I was as you can imagine me at 8

[00:24:10] [SPEAKER_05]: years old fully confident that this was the best movie of

[00:24:13] [SPEAKER_05]: all time I adored this movie as a kid is the one I wanted

[00:24:16] [SPEAKER_05]: to watch over and over again way more than the other

[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_05]: two I got to watch it with my 2 8 year old boys and it

[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_05]: was such a great experience getting to do that what I

[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_05]: can since then in my 20s I would have told you that

[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_05]: return of the Jedi is the worst of the original

[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_05]: 3 it is the first movie designed to sell toys

[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_05]: it gets way off the rails really really quickly and

[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_05]: there's some good scenes but that's about it.

[00:24:39] [SPEAKER_05]: I have a newfound appreciation for this movie after

[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_05]: watching it this weekend with my kids not only to get

[00:24:44] [SPEAKER_05]: to watch it with them and they loved every single

[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_05]: second of this movie but also I believe the return of

[00:24:50] [SPEAKER_05]: the Jedi represents the best and worst of the

[00:24:54] [SPEAKER_05]: original trilogy I think there are two or three set

[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_05]: pieces in this movie that are as good as it gets

[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_05]: the scene at job is palace is like like top tier

[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_05]: entertainment it is fantastic.

[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't even think it was slow getting there I think

[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_05]: it's adequately dark enough Luke is showing up in all

[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_05]: black a very different like vibe for Luke Mark Hamill

[00:25:19] [SPEAKER_05]: has figured this character out and then that whole

[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_05]: thing that old sequence is just worth the price of

[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_05]: admission it's fantastic the big battle at the

[00:25:30] [SPEAKER_05]: end of this movie I think is amazing I think you

[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_05]: have the three things going on at once that is

[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_05]: like the patent of Star Wars you have Vader and

[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Luke in a great lightsaber battle you have Han and

[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Leia on indoor trying to break the shields down

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_05]: and you have Lando in the sky with the fleet of

[00:25:48] [SPEAKER_05]: ships trying to destroy the death saw them live by

[00:25:50] [SPEAKER_05]: the way Lando the fleet of ships is fantastic you're

[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_05]: not you're not wrong on that so I think those

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_05]: are land on the I saw Lando in the sky you

[00:25:57] [SPEAKER_05]: saw Lando the fleet of ships I saw Lando in

[00:26:00] [SPEAKER_05]: the Swedish fish dude well that's what's wild is

[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_05]: that's a cover band they open for weird owl

[00:26:04] [SPEAKER_05]: several times but Lando in the fleet of ships

[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_05]: so you must have seen them after the fleet got

[00:26:09] [SPEAKER_05]: mad the fleet of Matt yeah so Lando was solo

[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_05]: that's right anyway I think those I think it's

[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_05]: the best like those scenes are as entertaining

[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_05]: and pop and those those scenes alone make this

[00:26:22] [SPEAKER_05]: movie miles better than New Hope which I'm

[00:26:25] [SPEAKER_05]: just very down on after watching it as a

[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_05]: 41 year old I just that that movie doesn't

[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_05]: hold like I want it to hold I respect it

[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_05]: but I don't really like it that much however

[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_05]: there's a lot to be said for the fact that

[00:26:36] [SPEAKER_05]: this movie a is basically run out of ideas B

[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_05]: it's got triple the budget of New Hope and

[00:26:43] [SPEAKER_05]: every bit of it is on screen for better or

[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_05]: worse and see Ewoks I don't want to get

[00:26:49] [SPEAKER_05]: two in the weeds here but it's a some of

[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_05]: this the Ewok stuff is just an absolute

[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_05]: eye roll disaster and then you add Lucas

[00:26:58] [SPEAKER_05]: is new cut to it and there's some really

[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_05]: really tough scenes in this movie that

[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_05]: you're like oh why am I watching this

[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_05]: why is this ruining everything can't we

[00:27:09] [SPEAKER_05]: get back to when this was good so at its

[00:27:12] [SPEAKER_05]: best it's as good as Star Wars gets but

[00:27:14] [SPEAKER_05]: at its worst it's worse than New Hope

[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_05]: by a mile so that's why I have it even

[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_05]: though I love the first 30 minutes I

[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_05]: think the first 30 minutes are great

[00:27:22] [SPEAKER_05]: and then I think the end of this movie

[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_05]: not the very end but the big battle

[00:27:25] [SPEAKER_05]: at the end of this movie is fantastic

[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_05]: as well so for me it is Empire Return of

[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_05]: the Jedi and I'm just telling you New

[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Hope's gonna keep sliding down the board

[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_05]: and it's good I can't believe it but it

[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_03]: is do you have a thought on if you

[00:27:38] [SPEAKER_03]: like would have liked to see a palpah

[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_05]: a battle I like about what I didn't

[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_05]: catch on as much as a kid that I love

[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_05]: about this movie is at the end of the

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Empire Strikes Back you can legitimately

[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Luke Skywalker you can see that he is

[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_05]: kind of hedging he's he's hemming and

[00:28:03] [SPEAKER_05]: hauling on whether or not he really does

[00:28:04] [SPEAKER_05]: want to join his father or not yeah and

[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_05]: as a kid I'm like Luke Skywalker is good

[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_05]: he would never do that and then this

[00:28:09] [SPEAKER_05]: movie starts and he's in jet black and

[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_05]: you're like he's powerful and he's

[00:28:14] [SPEAKER_05]: powerful in a way that could easily go

[00:28:16] [SPEAKER_05]: to the dark side it's cocky I love

[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_05]: holding the Emperor's cards close and

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_05]: not seeing fully what he can do until

[00:28:26] [SPEAKER_05]: he starts to do it to Luke Skywalker

[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_05]: and then dad saving him I don't need

[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_05]: the battle of Palpatine and Darth Vader

[00:28:34] [SPEAKER_05]: I think all that works and I think it

[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_05]: is has plenty of grand or as my buddy

[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_05]: and brand would like to say I didn't

[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_05]: I didn't think I just disagree with

[00:28:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Ryan on on the first 30 minutes in

[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_05]: the scale of it I think the scales

[00:28:45] [SPEAKER_05]: massive I think they go bigger than

[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Cloud City in every feasible way there's

[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_05]: battles taking place on a planet in

[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_05]: space and on a desktop the same time I

[00:28:54] [SPEAKER_05]: disagree there then would you would you

[00:28:56] [SPEAKER_01]: akin this to like for like kids Temple of

[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Doom is always their favorite of the

[00:29:01] [SPEAKER_01]: three indies those original then you

[00:29:02] [SPEAKER_01]: get up go go get older and it's no

[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_01]: longer that way and that's a good

[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_05]: analogy even though as a kid I kind

[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_05]: of like last crusade more like I like

[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_05]: there was something about that one that

[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_05]: really worked for me between that and

[00:29:15] [SPEAKER_03]: the scommies are you the coolest

[00:29:16] [SPEAKER_05]: right wasn't I so like I've all I've

[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_05]: never been in that boat but a lot

[00:29:21] [SPEAKER_05]: of my friends were just because where he

[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_05]: pulls the heart out that scene you had

[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_05]: to be you were super cool if you like

[00:29:26] [SPEAKER_05]: that movie more but it's Temple of Doom

[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_05]: is a great B movie matinee like they

[00:29:30] [SPEAKER_05]: would show in the 50s but it's not not

[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_05]: instruction of a man and she's pretty

[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_05]: powerful in these movies and I think

[00:31:46] [SPEAKER_05]: it's aside from that 30 minute which

[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_05]: that I guess does just you know make

[00:31:51] [SPEAKER_05]: that juxtaposition a little bit stronger
