[00:00:00] Hey y'all, I'm Brandon and I love The Chicken Sisters. Hi y'all, I'm Jax and I like The Chicken Sisters. Hey y'all, I'm Dan and I despise Them Chicken Sisters and this is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast. Yee-haw! Deck The Hallmark, it's this podcast. And friends host this podcast. We hope you like this jolly podcast. All right, all you chicken heads out there. Oh, chicken heads, settle down.

[00:00:36] Back off! Back off! Calm down, everybody. We're here, I understand. You didn't know what we were gonna say about episode five. You had to wait an extra week. That's right. Sorry. Things happen. The power goes out. The fact that we put out as much as we did last week is a miracle. I can't believe it. On Saturday or Sunday, we were talking about it and in my head I was thinking if we put out two episodes this week, that would be shocking to me. And we put out a full week. I'm just gonna blame Jax.

[00:01:07] I'm just gonna blame Jax. Oh my gosh! What a move by you! I do have to say, I am in awe of the two of you that you managed to get through this. You have children. You made this. I bet you made this. I was texting this to Bran. I bet you and your lovely wives made this actually a super memorable week for them that they'll remember forever. I'm sure it was hard on you, but you made it great for them.

[00:01:31] Yeah, let's go with that.

[00:01:33] Yeah, I mean, Jax, once again, you didn't help, but we did the best we could. No, I kid. It all...

[00:01:39] Tell us, when we were out of power, just sweltering heat down here, Jax was sipping on a margarita in Mexico? Is that what I... Am I not understanding that correctly?

[00:01:47] A virgin margarita. Of course, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:01:49] It was a virgin margarita and getting a tan and it was an all-inclusive... A tan for me.

[00:01:55] And guys, there were...

[00:01:56] I was about to say, did the tan wear off?

[00:01:59] No, this is...

[00:02:01] It was a...

[00:02:01] Was it a spray tan? Were they doing just like a quick, like as a 24-hour tan?

[00:02:07] You stopped.

[00:02:08] I'm sorry.

[00:02:08] I'm sorry.

[00:02:10] But I was thinking about you guys so much, I was like, laugh just ain't fair.

[00:02:14] It ain't fair.

[00:02:16] And you invited us and that meant a lot.

[00:02:18] Yeah, did she?

[00:02:19] Yeah, she said, come on down. We got the power in the AC. It's going to be great.

[00:02:23] And the all-inclusive. Man, imagine being at an all-inclusive last week. That would have been nice.

[00:02:26] Wow. Yeah, I can't even. I can't even imagine.

[00:02:29] But did you guys get diarrhea last week?

[00:02:31] No. Did you?

[00:02:34] No more than normal.

[00:02:35] Well, I know.

[00:02:38] You know?

[00:02:40] Listen, we all risk it for what we eat, don't we?

[00:02:43] I don't think so.

[00:02:44] Okay, it's just me?

[00:02:45] It's not me.

[00:02:47] All right.

[00:02:48] You may have an allergy or a problem that you need to get checked out.

[00:02:52] No, 100%.

[00:02:54] 100%.

[00:02:56] Bran, I don't think I've ever related to anything you've ever said more because same, same.

[00:03:01] Yeah.

[00:03:02] Oh my gosh.

[00:03:03] I never know what the week's going to be.

[00:03:04] There's times, I can't believe we're doing this, but that's fine.

[00:03:06] There's times that you know that something you eat is going to give you diarrhea and you're

[00:03:12] like, YOLO, let's do it.

[00:03:14] Almost every day.

[00:03:16] What a life to live.

[00:03:18] I'm going to say what's actually different for me than Bran is I don't, it could be anything.

[00:03:23] It's a surprise.

[00:03:25] If I could figure it out, I wouldn't do it.

[00:03:27] Yeah.

[00:03:28] But also, a lot of people, when they travel, their stomach gets upset.

[00:03:30] Yeah.

[00:03:31] Yeah.

[00:03:31] Just by the difference of food.

[00:03:33] But what Bran is saying is, is he just rolls into every day going, come what may, neither

[00:03:37] rain nor sleep nor snow nor liquid poops.

[00:03:40] That's right.

[00:03:41] He's going to do what he's going to do.

[00:03:43] And that is something.

[00:03:46] That's right.

[00:03:46] To commit to.

[00:03:47] Yeah.

[00:03:47] I'm proud of you.

[00:03:48] Thank you.

[00:03:49] I'm not confounded by that.

[00:03:51] I'm proud of you as a human being.

[00:03:53] Thank you.

[00:03:54] Did they have shredded lettuce at the all-inclusive jacks?

[00:03:57] I think that's what brought it on.

[00:03:59] Do you think so?

[00:03:59] Really?

[00:03:59] The shredded lettuce.

[00:04:01] I didn't have it until the.

[00:04:02] So you actually did you a favor.

[00:04:03] I couldn't find shredded lettuce last week and it was a real, for some reason.

[00:04:07] Couldn't find power, couldn't find shredded lettuce.

[00:04:09] Everybody decided we're buying the pre-shredded lettuce and it's something that I like and

[00:04:14] I couldn't find it anywhere and it was really tough for me.

[00:04:18] Wait, so you're a big shredded lettuce guy.

[00:04:20] I think that shredded lettuce is the perfect, don't get me wrong, I like a lot of flavor

[00:04:24] on things and I like to make them very specific, but anytime I make a, like I was telling Bran,

[00:04:29] like anything that's warm and savory, cold and crunchy on top of it is the perfect combo

[00:04:35] to me.

[00:04:35] That's what really brings all those flavors home.

[00:04:37] By itself, it doesn't do anything, but there's something about that bag shredded lettuce,

[00:04:41] not home shredded lettuce, that's like old soggy and not quite right.

[00:04:44] The very cold, very crunchy on top of a burger is like, that's it for me.

[00:04:50] That's everything.

[00:04:51] So like it was a little thing that I just couldn't have that I just wanted.

[00:04:55] That's it.

[00:04:56] I'm over it.

[00:04:57] I'm good.

[00:04:57] I'm good.

[00:04:58] It's fine.

[00:04:59] Like it wasn't until I was an adult I realized that most people don't have the poop problems

[00:05:04] I do.

[00:05:05] But now you're in your thirties and you're still every day getting up and spinning the roulette

[00:05:09] wheel, baby.

[00:05:10] It's not a roulette wheel when you know you're going to lose, you know?

[00:05:16] It's true.

[00:05:16] You know, that's just life.

[00:05:18] It's just life.

[00:05:19] Let's talk Chicken Sisters, season one, episode five.

[00:05:21] And if we play our cards just right, we'll see what happens.

[00:05:25] Episode six also out today.

[00:05:27] Really?

[00:05:27] For us.

[00:05:28] Yeah, of course it is.

[00:05:29] Maybe.

[00:05:30] We'll see how things go.

[00:05:31] Do you actually got any trips you want to tell us?

[00:05:34] My next trip is to come see my boy.

[00:05:36] I love it.

[00:05:37] Week and a half.

[00:05:38] Less than a week.

[00:05:39] A week.

[00:05:39] A week, you might say.

[00:05:41] Chicken Sisters, season one, episode five.

[00:05:44] It is called, and I got the real title now, everybody.

[00:05:47] Back off.

[00:05:48] You know what's crazy is, is I was watching this.

[00:05:50] We watched this on our own, and I saw the difference in the titles on Hallmark Plus versus

[00:05:55] IMDB.

[00:05:56] It's insanity.

[00:05:57] It's insane.

[00:05:58] What in the world is going to-

[00:05:59] Oh, I don't know the difference.

[00:06:00] What is it?

[00:06:00] IMDB are all country music songs, I think.

[00:06:03] And the ones on Hallmark Plus are all something with y'all at the end of them.

[00:06:07] I've been going with IMDB, and then people have pointed out, hey, you're wrong.

[00:06:11] You done goofball.

[00:06:13] Why don't you go have the idea and cry?

[00:06:15] Yeah.

[00:06:15] And I say, I do that anyway.

[00:06:17] It has nothing to do with Chicken Sisters.

[00:06:18] It has something to do with Chicken, maybe, but not the sisters.

[00:06:21] Season one, episode five is called, Not the Hydrangeas, y'all.

[00:06:24] And it went a little something like this.

[00:06:26] Amanda and May, they weren't always enemies.

[00:06:28] They were best friends when they were kids.

[00:06:34] But that went out the window when May tried to talk Amanda.

[00:06:39] What is going on?

[00:06:41] You've got to see your Zoom.

[00:06:42] Go to your camera.

[00:06:43] Go to his camera.

[00:06:44] What is happening?

[00:06:47] You were doing your synopsis, and I was like, this is weird.

[00:06:51] Whatever is when you go to, just go back to the two-shot wide.

[00:06:54] Yeah.

[00:06:55] We'll be fine.

[00:06:55] I don't know.

[00:06:55] We're going to do that.

[00:06:56] And then we'll figure it out after this.

[00:06:58] Jax doesn't know what's going on.

[00:07:02] I never do, so it's okay.

[00:07:04] That's fine.

[00:07:04] Buenas noches, Jax.

[00:07:06] But that went out the window when May tried to talk Amanda out of marrying Frank Jr.

[00:07:11] After that, they didn't speak for a long time.

[00:07:14] Cut back to present day.

[00:07:15] The pastor's speaking about not letting the chicken competition tear the community apart.

[00:07:19] Turns out Amanda was just crashing at the drop woman's house.

[00:07:24] I don't know her name.

[00:07:25] Yeah.

[00:07:25] No, it wasn't her house.

[00:07:27] It was Shawna's house, her best friend.

[00:07:29] Shawna.

[00:07:30] The drop woman's different, right?

[00:07:32] Oh, no.

[00:07:32] That's the same person.

[00:07:33] Same person?

[00:07:33] Oh, my God.

[00:07:35] Come on.

[00:07:36] Cool.

[00:07:37] And they're best friends.

[00:07:38] I didn't know they were best friends.

[00:07:40] Yeah.

[00:07:40] I didn't know they were best friends.

[00:07:41] That's why it was a cliffhanger last week, because they were dropping new plot information.

[00:07:44] That's right.

[00:07:45] Nancy tells Frank Jr. that he better go make things right with Amanda.

[00:07:51] You get it.

[00:07:52] Amanda.

[00:07:52] Amanda leaves the drop lady's house.

[00:07:56] Shawna.

[00:07:56] Shawna.

[00:07:57] And has to find another place to stay.

[00:07:59] So she goes to her mom's house, and her mom says, can't stay here.

[00:08:03] Slams the door.

[00:08:05] Frankie and Lindsay, teenage girls, they keep hanging out.

[00:08:10] They're getting to know each other more.

[00:08:11] And Frankie's never dated before.

[00:08:14] It's the whole thing.

[00:08:15] And Lindsay is like, listen, you don't got to worry about divorce.

[00:08:19] Divorce is a natural part of life.

[00:08:20] It rules.

[00:08:21] I love it.

[00:08:22] Does she, though?

[00:08:23] We'll find out.

[00:08:24] Amanda tries to go to the inn, but it's full.

[00:08:29] May listens in on this and offers her room, and Amanda reluctantly agrees.

[00:08:33] Nancy shows up to try to make things right with Gus.

[00:08:36] Gus is like, I see what you're doing, and I'm not here for it, and slams the door on her.

[00:08:42] She's slamming the door left and right.

[00:08:43] And as she's driving off, she sees Jen in the window, who is the guy that we saw, I believe, in episode one with Gus in the freezer.

[00:08:53] We still don't know what's going on there.

[00:08:56] Sabrina keeps talking to the handyman a hunk whenever she gets the moment, and we're all better every time that that happens.

[00:09:02] May opens up to Amanda about how her fiancé didn't know anything about her life, and then she finally opened up, and now he's not talking to her, so she's having a tough time.

[00:09:14] Nancy goes to talk to the pastor about how she wants to make things right with Gus.

[00:09:18] He gives her some advice, and then she touches his muscles.

[00:09:23] She knows you got him.

[00:09:23] Yes, she does.

[00:09:25] Frankie encourages her dad to open up about what he appreciates about Amanda.

[00:09:31] And then maybe Amanda will come home.

[00:09:33] Amanda tells May that she kissed Sergio, and May is like, let's go!

[00:09:38] Kinsey realizes that the divorce is not awesome, actually.

[00:09:42] Sometimes it's hard.

[00:09:43] Her dad didn't show up for a Zoom call with her, and so Sabrina comes in and comforts her and gives her some motherly advice.

[00:09:50] Amanda wakes up in the middle of the night hearing May cry, and she goes over to comfort her, and May says that she has ruined everything in her life.

[00:09:59] Nancy tries to help Gus's hydrangeas, but when Gus comes out, it turns into quite the fight with some undertones about not caring for daughters.

[00:10:11] Hydrangeas is another word for daughters.

[00:10:13] I don't know if you knew that.

[00:10:14] I didn't.

[00:10:15] That's what we found out in this episode.

[00:10:16] There you have it.

[00:10:17] It turns into a whole water fight.

[00:10:19] It's a water day-night.

[00:10:19] It's a day-night water fight?

[00:10:21] Unbelievable.

[00:10:21] Unbelievable.

[00:10:21] Frank Jr. shows up and tells Amanda that she's a whole world, and at first she's like, it's too late, too little too late, and then she realizes that she'd be giving up on her family.

[00:10:34] She'd be giving up on her mother.

[00:10:36] And on Nancy.

[00:10:37] Yeah.

[00:10:37] Specifically on Nancy.

[00:10:38] Nancy is who she cares about.

[00:10:40] Yes, and so she agrees to come home.

[00:10:42] She goes to get her stuff, and May just can't believe it.

[00:10:45] She's like, marriage is supposed to be hard sometimes, but not all the time, and she tries to stop her again, and Amanda just says, just because you messed up your relationship doesn't mean that I have to mess up mine, and the sisters are at war again.

[00:11:02] And that, my friends, was the Chicken Sisters.

[00:11:04] Chicken Sisters.

[00:11:04] Season one, episode five.

[00:11:06] Not the Hydrangeas, y'all.

[00:11:08] Let's take a quick break.

[00:11:09] We'll come back.

[00:11:10] We'll get to the weight.

[00:11:11] What?

[00:11:11] And nope.

[00:11:12] We'll get to the feet.

[00:11:12] Hot tank, everybody.

[00:11:14] Dick the ha-ha.

[00:11:15] We're here at night.

[00:11:17] Welcome back.

[00:11:24] Hopefully you're doing well.

[00:11:25] It is time to talk about season one, episode five of the Chicken Sisters, not the Hydrangeas.

[00:11:31] Y'all, it's time for the hot takes where we share exactly how we felt about this episode, and I will start with you, Jax.

[00:11:39] Alex just made a shout out.

[00:11:40] Hey, Alex.

[00:11:41] Shout out.

[00:11:42] They say hi.

[00:11:43] Shout out to my boy, Alex.

[00:11:44] Hey.

[00:11:45] He's getting an orchid.

[00:11:47] Not a Hydrangea?

[00:11:47] Okay, so.

[00:11:48] Okay, bye.

[00:11:49] I love you.

[00:11:49] I'm no Hydrangeas.

[00:11:50] Getting his 845 orchid.

[00:11:51] I got you.

[00:11:52] You got it.

[00:11:53] That's what we do at 845 on a Sunday.

[00:11:55] Okay, so I don't know if I'm just like in that romantic in love phase of Chicken Sisters, but I think this is the best episode yet.

[00:12:07] I think Dan just gave me the look, so I must be, you know, in this like really extreme like state.

[00:12:14] I didn't do anything, Jess.

[00:12:14] What was your favorite?

[00:12:15] I missed your look.

[00:12:16] You showed it.

[00:12:16] I kind of went down like this and just did this.

[00:12:19] Yes, but I sensed it.

[00:12:21] Okay.

[00:12:22] And look, look.

[00:12:23] The acting, they gave me exactly.

[00:12:26] Brian did the same thing in the Apple Hill episode.

[00:12:30] He was like, I hate that I'm going to defend this movie because I know Dan's going to rip in a new one.

[00:12:34] And I'm like, give me a chance over here.

[00:12:37] You don't know.

[00:12:37] No, no.

[00:12:37] You're right.

[00:12:38] No, look, I just know I am being such a stan, such a fangirl for this show because they gave me exactly what I wanted, which was beautiful sister content with May and Amanda.

[00:12:51] This was like one of the best acted scenes I've ever seen on Hallmark.

[00:12:56] The pillow fights, the like jump in in like the potato sack race, the teasing about Sergio and the kissing and then all the heart vulnerable moments where they're really connecting.

[00:13:08] It was firing on all cylinders across multiple scenes.

[00:13:13] And I never thought that I would hear a cherry orchard quote in Hallmark content.

[00:13:20] And we did.

[00:13:21] Thank you so much for she's preparing for, you know, her, her NYU audition.

[00:13:26] I'm loving that.

[00:13:27] You guys, I'm just, I'm just loving this in every way.

[00:13:31] And I cannot wait for more.

[00:13:32] I enjoy covering this show so much.

[00:13:35] No, that's not.

[00:13:36] Okay.

[00:13:36] I'm going to say this.

[00:13:37] I enjoy covering everything with you guys.

[00:13:39] Whether it's content that I don't like or that I do like.

[00:13:42] Yes.

[00:13:42] But I actually enjoy watching this and I look forward to it.

[00:13:46] It is not an obligation.

[00:13:47] I love it so much.

[00:13:48] We're an obligation otherwise.

[00:13:49] Got it.

[00:13:50] No, no, no.

[00:13:51] You're never.

[00:13:53] Listen, there are obligations that you enjoy.

[00:13:56] Yeah, of course.

[00:13:58] But we are an obligation.

[00:13:59] We are an obligation.

[00:14:00] I agree with Jax.

[00:14:03] This was also my favorite episode.

[00:14:05] I love the way that they told the story this week.

[00:14:09] I agree.

[00:14:10] I love the sister content in this episode.

[00:14:13] This episode more than any of the other episodes so far is giving me some Gilmore Girl vibes.

[00:14:21] And one of the frustrating things about Gilmore Girls, a show that I absolutely adore,

[00:14:27] is the swings between the relationship between Rory and Lorelai happen.

[00:14:34] And it's like they're best friends one moment and then they hate each other.

[00:14:38] And you're like, oh my gosh, just get over it.

[00:14:41] And when these two are together and they are getting along in this episode, oh, so good.

[00:14:48] It's just fantastic.

[00:14:50] And not surprised to see the swing back though to where we ended in this episode.

[00:14:58] And I'm still very excited to see where it goes.

[00:15:02] I just think that there are some great, great characters in this show.

[00:15:06] And, you know, unlike, you know, with Wind Calls to Heart, it's like not only does nothing

[00:15:15] happen in the show, but I also don't care about any of the characters.

[00:15:18] It's a double whammy.

[00:15:19] And so with this show, with this episode, you know, it's a lot of just sisters hanging out.

[00:15:26] And if the characters weren't as good as they are, it could have been easily a boring episode,

[00:15:32] but it wasn't.

[00:15:33] And that says a lot about these two characters and these two actors, of course.

[00:15:37] So really, really liked it.

[00:15:39] Dano?

[00:15:39] This is by far the best episode of this television program.

[00:15:44] It's not even particularly close.

[00:15:46] It is grounded character development with amazing performances almost across the board with an

[00:15:54] exception that I'd love to ask Jax about in one of our later segments.

[00:15:58] A few minor qualms, but this is it here, guys.

[00:16:01] The stuff with Skylar and Genevieve, they are in another just universe than everybody else

[00:16:10] in the show.

[00:16:11] And this is a show that has Leah Thompson in it.

[00:16:14] Like, this is a show that has some big names in it.

[00:16:17] And for these two actors to crush it the way they did was unbelievable.

[00:16:22] Yes, it is a bit of a quick turn, even for sisters.

[00:16:25] If you've been estranged for two decades to be best friends for 30 minutes is a...

[00:16:30] I would...

[00:16:31] Listen, if I'm nitpicking, it's a bit of...

[00:16:33] But you know what?

[00:16:34] I didn't care because they were so good.

[00:16:36] And it made me care more about the show.

[00:16:40] Most everything here worked.

[00:16:42] We weren't trying to be so soapy that we lose our train of thought here.

[00:16:47] The motivations of each character in this episode made sense.

[00:16:52] Everyone, the things that they did, they did within the realm of what their characters would

[00:16:58] do, in my opinion.

[00:16:59] And that makes for good television.

[00:17:01] And then, you said it best, Bran, we care because the acting is good and because the story

[00:17:06] is good.

[00:17:07] When Caused the Heartache, occasionally we'll have a good performance.

[00:17:10] Like, we're not here to tell you that, you know, Kevin McGarry's a bad actor or Aaron

[00:17:15] Craker's a bad actor.

[00:17:15] But we have to care first.

[00:17:17] And that is a bar that's very low and typically is not cleared by Wayne Caused the Heart.

[00:17:23] Boy, is it cleared here.

[00:17:25] This is...

[00:17:26] If you're looking for bigger fights and crazier plot lines, I don't know if this was your

[00:17:32] favorite episode, but as far as a character-driven drama goes, sign me up for this.

[00:17:36] I'll take this every week.

[00:17:37] Absolutely.

[00:17:39] Let's get to the feel.

[00:17:40] So you were wrong, Jax.

[00:17:42] Yeah.

[00:17:43] No, you know what it was?

[00:17:44] Honestly, Dan, I feel like oddly emotional hearing you say that because I respect your

[00:17:48] opinion a lot.

[00:17:50] Oh, God bless you.

[00:17:50] And I really was like, wait, am I just so into this that I can't see?

[00:17:55] And it's like, no, actually, it was that good.

[00:17:57] It was that good.

[00:18:00] Yeah.

[00:18:00] That good.

[00:18:01] Yeah.

[00:18:02] It really was.

[00:18:03] And I think, you know, it's tough.

[00:18:05] You know that I'm going to be like, well, you said every episode was that good.

[00:18:09] But I think that you can even see...

[00:18:12] You're smart.

[00:18:13] You get the acting better than we do by a long shot.

[00:18:16] You're smart.

[00:18:18] Like you even saw, like for you, this was even a step up and you've liked the other

[00:18:22] one.

[00:18:22] So I like, yeah, I just think it's, I think this is, it's one of those episodes that really

[00:18:28] good TV shows have regularly and then fine TV shows have occasionally.

[00:18:33] You know what I mean?

[00:18:34] Like Matt, have you watched Mad Men?

[00:18:37] Like there's an episode for Mad Men you've not?

[00:18:40] Have you never seen it?

[00:18:41] No.

[00:18:41] Or Gilmore Girls.

[00:18:42] Oh, wow.

[00:18:43] Just, there's an episode called The Suitcase that everyone references as like the best

[00:18:46] episode of Mad Men.

[00:18:47] And it's an amazing episode of television that features basically two performers, Elizabeth

[00:18:51] Moss and John Hamm.

[00:18:54] And they're amazing in it.

[00:18:56] But that show found a way to do that kind of every week, most weeks.

[00:19:00] And then shows that are more not swinging for an Emmy, when they can do this, like the

[00:19:07] way Home did it, I think in one episode of the first season where it was like, wow,

[00:19:11] wow, we didn't need to do like have big plot movements.

[00:19:15] We just had like core emotional stuff happening here and it was great.

[00:19:20] So I'm all in on that.

[00:19:22] Let's go to the feels.

[00:19:23] This is where we're talking about feels and stuff.

[00:19:26] Jax.

[00:19:27] So yeah, as mentioned, all the feels on the sister scenes, but it really, really hit me

[00:19:33] when Amanda decides to leave with her husband and May is just like looking out at them leaving

[00:19:41] and she's like, I can't keep trying to save her.

[00:19:44] And I was like, oh, I am feeling so much for May now.

[00:19:47] Like I thought she was a little bit insufferable.

[00:19:50] Did a great job of making her a sympathetic character this week.

[00:19:53] Yes.

[00:19:54] Unbelievable.

[00:19:55] Oh my word.

[00:19:55] Like it, it, it shook me to my core just the way.

[00:19:58] And you know what?

[00:19:59] It wasn't, she could have played that a less skilled actor.

[00:20:02] Like, you know, might've played that where there's like anger in there, but there was

[00:20:06] just this like vulnerability, this defeat, this sadness.

[00:20:10] Like it was just incredible.

[00:20:12] Um, and then I think, um, some fun feels Rekia Bernard as hung over, she's making me chuckle

[00:20:20] all the way through.

[00:20:21] And then finally, look, we got some, some sexy feels with the pastor and the good book.

[00:20:29] That's not a Bible.

[00:20:30] That made me laugh.

[00:20:31] I like Matthew James Dowden.

[00:20:33] I thought the chemistry was really fun.

[00:20:35] So I was, I was.

[00:20:36] The Jody P. Cole nod there was hysterical.

[00:20:39] So really funny.

[00:20:41] Yeah.

[00:20:42] Yeah.

[00:20:42] He's, he's like, yes, it is a good book.

[00:20:44] I was like, oh, again, love this.

[00:20:46] You wouldn't have this on another Hallmark channel show.

[00:20:49] No, no.

[00:20:50] Um, you know, you mentioned Rekia Bernard and she's, her character has been the one that

[00:20:55] I've kind of been like waiting for something more to happen, even though Rekia Bernard's

[00:20:59] phenomenal.

[00:21:00] She's great.

[00:21:00] She's great in this role.

[00:21:02] She seems paper thin.

[00:21:03] I've kind of waited, you know?

[00:21:03] And I felt like this episode, as it did with many of the characters in the show, really

[00:21:08] kind of opened up the book a bit more and you get to see more about her.

[00:21:11] When she goes and she comforts her daughter, I thought that that scene between the two of

[00:21:15] them was fantastic.

[00:21:16] Especially when she talked about, hey, like, don't, don't settle for regular love.

[00:21:21] Like you deserve big, huge love.

[00:21:23] I thought that was a wonderful moment between a mother and her daughter.

[00:21:28] And, uh, I thought, of course, Rekia Bernard crushed it because that's what she does, but

[00:21:33] it was great to see more of her character.

[00:21:35] Uh, Dan?

[00:21:36] Yeah.

[00:21:36] Uh, so my whole thing for the first four episodes, I just didn't know who to pull for.

[00:21:39] I'm pulling for May.

[00:21:40] This is easy.

[00:21:42] Uh, she, what they do with her character in this episode.

[00:21:45] Well, as a, as a, uh, Franny's, it's going to be tough.

[00:21:50] I'm a Franny's.

[00:21:51] No, you're a.

[00:21:52] Manny's.

[00:21:52] Who's the other one?

[00:21:54] What is it?

[00:21:54] Franny's.

[00:21:55] Mimis?

[00:21:55] Mimis.

[00:21:56] You're a Mimis.

[00:21:57] Mimis.

[00:21:57] I'm a Mimis boy.

[00:21:59] You're a Mimis boy.

[00:21:59] Yeah.

[00:22:00] Uh, listen, the character of May, it gets so many shades here and I think it's wonderful

[00:22:05] and I think it becomes the character that's easiest to pull for.

[00:22:09] Uh, it, it would be a lot easier, I think, to make the person that's left and gone to

[00:22:14] the big city, the bad guy.

[00:22:15] And they don't do that here.

[00:22:16] And I think that's awesome.

[00:22:17] I think you can see a lot of how May's actions really were about protecting her and her family.

[00:22:23] But here's the thing.

[00:22:24] This is the moment that really brought it home for me.

[00:22:28] This was where at 1130 at night, after watching the Yankees play baseball, I watched this episode

[00:22:33] of television and have every reason to be bored and tired.

[00:22:35] And I sat up in my chair during the scenes with May and Amanda, Genevieve Angelson, is it

[00:22:42] Angelson or Angelson?

[00:22:43] I believe it's Angelson.

[00:22:44] I don't know which.

[00:22:45] Whoever plays now.

[00:22:46] I've been saying it that way too.

[00:22:47] Okay.

[00:22:48] Genevieve Angelson.

[00:22:50] It's Angelson.

[00:22:50] Her character of May.

[00:22:51] Thank you, Trace.

[00:22:52] Her character, as she's talking more and more to Amanda, becomes more Southern.

[00:22:59] That is huge.

[00:23:01] Oh, I know.

[00:23:02] I'm getting chills.

[00:23:02] That is huge.

[00:23:03] I can't, as someone who, you know, my mom has a master's degree.

[00:23:09] My dad has a doctor's degree, doctorate degree.

[00:23:11] But we also grew up in the middle of nowhere.

[00:23:13] And your legal tender was talking like everybody else talked.

[00:23:17] And there's something about the way I related to my grandma and my grandfather who were like

[00:23:23] heroes of mine.

[00:23:25] I wasn't patronizing when I was around them.

[00:23:29] Like part of that camaraderie was how we spoke to each other.

[00:23:33] And then when I was in school or if I'm teaching a class, I don't sound like that.

[00:23:38] And for her to go right back into that was not just a beautiful acting choice, but was so real to life.

[00:23:46] Like you're starting to be kids again.

[00:23:48] You're starting to have this connection that goes deeper than your education or what you think you should sound like.

[00:23:56] And that code switch happens.

[00:23:58] And it is a beautiful moment of authenticity that I loved so, so dearly.

[00:24:04] And she crushed it.

[00:24:06] She was so good.

[00:24:07] And, and, and I just was like, oh my gosh, she's doing this thing.

[00:24:10] And it was awesome.

[00:24:11] There you go.

[00:24:12] I just have to say one more thing about that, Dan.

[00:24:14] I'm so glad you brought that up.

[00:24:15] And sometimes even when actors make choices like that in the moment, you're like, oh, that's so incredible.

[00:24:20] And, but you're also like, you can tell an actor knows it's a good choice and they're doing a thing.

[00:24:24] I did not know.

[00:24:26] Like it was so seamless.

[00:24:28] And beautiful and gorgeous.

[00:24:30] And, oh my gosh, all day long.

[00:24:32] Yeah.

[00:24:33] I'm so excited.

[00:24:34] Yeah.

[00:24:34] Yeah.

[00:24:34] She crushed it.

[00:24:36] Yeah.

[00:24:36] She crushed it.

[00:24:38] That's how you talk when you're not on microphone.

[00:24:40] Yeah.

[00:24:40] That's how you talk.

[00:24:41] Do you, uh, Hey Jax, being up there in a, uh, you're a Yankee.

[00:24:45] Uh, do you, when you talk to us, do you hear any, uh, you hear any Southern, Southern drawl?

[00:24:50] Do I hear any accent?

[00:24:51] Yeah.

[00:24:52] Do I like choices?

[00:24:53] Oh, when you're not, when you're doing the big.

[00:24:55] Listen, no, when we're doing.

[00:24:57] Oh no.

[00:24:57] No, I, when I, I thought I didn't have a Southern accent until I moved to out of South Carolina

[00:25:03] and people were like, yeah, I can hear it immediately.

[00:25:05] I'm like, Oh, cool.

[00:25:07] See, I only hear it jam when you say lawyer, lawyer, lawyer, lawyer.

[00:25:11] There's nothing I can do.

[00:25:12] Lawyer.

[00:25:13] There's nothing I can do.

[00:25:14] What about, are you going to get your oil changed?

[00:25:16] Fit oil?

[00:25:17] Oil changed?

[00:25:18] Or, or fixing it.

[00:25:19] I do say fixing to get ready.

[00:25:21] That one I have not been able to shake.

[00:25:23] I like that.

[00:25:24] I'm fixing to, I'm fixing to get ready.

[00:25:26] Which is like, you're about to prepare to get ready to do whatever you're supposed to.

[00:25:29] I'm fixing to get ready.

[00:25:30] It's like three steps removed from doing this.

[00:25:31] You can't just, no one can just get ready.

[00:25:34] No, I'm fixing to.

[00:25:34] No, you gotta, I'm fixing to get ready.

[00:25:35] Everybody knows the biggest part of getting ready is just getting out of bed.

[00:25:38] You know, you lay in bed and you're like, okay, here it comes.

[00:25:44] That's fixing to get ready.

[00:25:45] That's the big part.

[00:25:46] Let's take a quick break.

[00:25:47] We'll come back with the way, what, and the what, the homework.

[00:25:48] You're on deck the homework.

[00:25:58] Welcome back, everybody.

[00:25:59] Hopefully you're still doing well.

[00:26:01] I heard from a lot of people after the first break.

[00:26:03] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:26:03] They were.

[00:26:04] They were doing well.

[00:26:05] Check back in after the, yeah.

[00:26:06] Just checking on your loved ones.

[00:26:07] That's all I'm saying.

[00:26:09] Let's get to the way, what, so we were talking about what in this episode made us go,

[00:26:11] way, what?

[00:26:11] I'll start with you, Jax.

[00:26:13] Yeah, the only thing I'm going to talk about that we, that we've already alluded to is,

[00:26:17] is it was not on my bingo card that she's staying at Shauna.

[00:26:21] That was the dumbest part of this episode.

[00:26:23] What was going, I, I, slow down.

[00:26:25] The dumbest scene of this episode is the cliffhanger reveal that it's not a cliffhanger and Shauna's

[00:26:31] her best friend and we didn't know any of that and it was forced and terrible and I was

[00:26:36] almost completely out when they did that.

[00:26:38] It was terrible.

[00:26:38] But I will say, Dan, it did give us the opportunity for Shauna to be like, hey, I'm a super host

[00:26:46] and, and the other moment where in another, any kind of other Hallmark Channel programming,

[00:26:52] it would have been this really heartfelt moment and Shauna's like, yeah, girl, like you got

[00:26:55] to get out.

[00:26:56] My next guest is here.

[00:26:57] So it was fun, but yeah, not on the bingo card and it was a big, wait, what?

[00:27:01] I had to look up Shauna.

[00:27:03] I had to look, I had to look up who she was in the show and I still didn't know she was

[00:27:07] the drop lady.

[00:27:08] She's the drop lady.

[00:27:09] There you have it.

[00:27:09] She's like, I love her so much.

[00:27:11] But also they're best friends and none of us knew that.

[00:27:15] They're best friends.

[00:27:15] That's ridiculous.

[00:27:17] One night minimum though.

[00:27:19] That's right.

[00:27:19] One night minimum.

[00:27:20] Yeah.

[00:27:21] I felt like the graffiti and destruction was out of nowhere and a little much.

[00:27:26] What, what happened from the drop?

[00:27:30] From the drop to now.

[00:27:32] I don't know what happened.

[00:27:34] I was like, did I skip an episode?

[00:27:36] And all that war has broken out.

[00:27:38] And like, I understand there's a lot going on with the things and you know, you know,

[00:27:44] the drop happened and some stuff was shared, but boy, howdy.

[00:27:49] They went hard.

[00:27:50] They did.

[00:27:50] People went hard and we didn't get to see any of it.

[00:27:53] No, we just got to see.

[00:27:54] You just need to know that there's a truck of Fran stands and they are out for blood.

[00:28:00] They got the spray paints.

[00:28:01] They got a pickup truck and they are going.

[00:28:03] Yeah.

[00:28:04] They're going nuts.

[00:28:05] I just didn't really know what to do with that.

[00:28:08] That scene starts with the truck on the grass and driving through the, how is there no damage

[00:28:15] of the truck getting on the grass?

[00:28:16] It's fine.

[00:28:17] It's grass.

[00:28:18] Getting on the grass up the side of the hill in your four wheel drive didn't cause any

[00:28:21] damage at all.

[00:28:22] But then you drove it off.

[00:28:23] That was a wild scene.

[00:28:24] It was a wild scene.

[00:28:25] They're going real hard.

[00:28:26] You're right.

[00:28:26] They're going really.

[00:28:26] Yes.

[00:28:27] And it was, I honestly thought I skipped an episode.

[00:28:29] I was like, oh, we missed when the, like, is the show, I was under the impression the

[00:28:34] show was currently being filmed.

[00:28:36] It's not airing in real time.

[00:28:37] Right.

[00:28:38] I thought that we had skipped to the point where the show premiered and people are ascending

[00:28:44] into the town and causing chaos.

[00:28:48] Yeah.

[00:28:48] Is all of this because of Frank Jr. having a vasectomy?

[00:28:52] Like what?

[00:28:53] Like what caused everybody to all of a sudden?

[00:28:56] I think that in the last episode, there was at least some news that people were fighting.

[00:29:01] I don't know what it was.

[00:29:02] Was it the sign being ruined?

[00:29:05] Was it the sign being ruined?

[00:29:05] I feel like it did make news in the last episode.

[00:29:07] Maybe I'm wrong.

[00:29:08] Okay.

[00:29:08] Okay.

[00:29:09] That's great.

[00:29:09] Yeah.

[00:29:09] I just, I was like, whoa, no, stuff is breaking out.

[00:29:13] Dan?

[00:29:13] Dan?

[00:29:14] This is a question for Jax.

[00:29:16] And so I'm glad we have her on screen here.

[00:29:18] I'll be over here.

[00:29:19] Frank Jr., is that actor making certain choices or is that character the dumbest human being

[00:29:27] alive?

[00:29:29] I've thought about this.

[00:29:31] Okay.

[00:29:31] I think, I think it, I think it's the character, but I'm not sure.

[00:29:38] But I, what in particular are you?

[00:29:43] Listen, I, so the character choices don't, are not in step with everyone else in this show,

[00:29:51] in my opinion, one, but I don't know.

[00:29:54] I'm not an actor.

[00:29:55] Second of all, I get the idea that you think your wife in the South, especially how Frank

[00:30:02] Jr. gets to the point where he thinks his wife is just there.

[00:30:04] And his favorite thing about his wife is that she does his laundry and cooks his food and

[00:30:10] blah, blah, blah.

[00:30:11] Terrible place to be, you know, shouldn't be there.

[00:30:14] But I get that Frank Jr. thinks that, but in, in these scenes where he's having to be coached

[00:30:20] by his daughter, it, it just comes off as, I've known a lot of dudes like this and I've

[00:30:30] known several that have, that their wives have left them and good for those wives.

[00:30:35] Seriously.

[00:30:37] I've known none of them that reacted like Frank Jr. does when he's like, well, I just don't

[00:30:42] get it.

[00:30:42] I just don't understand.

[00:30:43] And like, I don't, and he's very, it's like somebody's taking the edge off him with medication

[00:30:48] and I don't understand.

[00:30:51] Well, yeah, it does feel like that or it feels like he's maybe not quite playing with a full

[00:31:00] dad.

[00:31:00] Yeah.

[00:31:01] Yeah.

[00:31:01] Is that appropriate to say?

[00:31:02] Yeah.

[00:31:03] I know.

[00:31:03] He seems like he is just not, not a very high intellect in comparison to literally everyone

[00:31:09] else on the show and not in a good old boy way in just a, what is wrong with this man

[00:31:15] way.

[00:31:16] Yeah.

[00:31:17] He was more redneck or he was more like more just like patriarchal, like super misogynist.

[00:31:28] Like it would make more sense if he was one of those avenues, but he's just a, a clean

[00:31:34] shaven baby face.

[00:31:35] I just don't understand why she don't like doing my laundry.

[00:31:38] And I don't, I don't get that character at all right now.

[00:31:42] And I don't know if they get it either.

[00:31:44] I do like the fact that they, they're creating generational trauma.

[00:31:49] Obviously I don't want them to create it, but like having the daughter do this and then

[00:31:52] realize what she's been taught to do is patriarchal.

[00:31:57] What she's been taught to do is to keep women in a system that keeps them second.

[00:32:03] And she realizes that towards the end and that's how that is passed.

[00:32:06] And I think that's beautiful, but I just think the Frank junior character could be, when I

[00:32:11] say this, when I say better, I don't mean like a better human being.

[00:32:14] I mean, I just think it could either be drawn better or acted better.

[00:32:17] I'm not sure which, and this episode made me just full record scratch with him and I didn't

[00:32:20] get it.

[00:32:21] Um, go ahead.

[00:32:23] No, just like, yeah, absolutely.

[00:32:25] I do think it's the, those two things working in tandem though.

[00:32:29] Um, I would love to see if he was given different material, what he could do with it.

[00:32:33] And Dan, I just love that you talked about the generational trauma of it all.

[00:32:36] I think seeing that moment, especially with the daughter and may where the daughter's confused,

[00:32:40] like, wait, why, why, why you want this?

[00:32:41] And then her being like, Oh, this is why you wouldn't want this.

[00:32:46] My mom's in the kitchen.

[00:32:47] My dad's sitting with the beer.

[00:32:49] This is just, this is just what it is.

[00:32:51] Like it was, it was so, it so, so good.

[00:32:54] So, so good.

[00:32:55] Chicken sisters.

[00:32:55] I love you.

[00:32:56] Yeah.

[00:32:57] Great show.

[00:32:57] Great show.

[00:32:58] And then the other one I had was, uh, Amanda decides to go back to Frank Jr.

[00:33:04] And she said, the narrator says this not because to keep her family together for her

[00:33:10] daughter, but because if she doesn't, she'll lose her mother-in-law.

[00:33:16] That's basically like a, my daughter's going to be fine.

[00:33:19] She's just a very impressionable teenager.

[00:33:21] But if I don't go back to Frank Jr., then I can't hang out with Leah Thompson anymore.

[00:33:26] And that girl's got wisdom.

[00:33:29] Dan, I'm not going to lie.

[00:33:31] I loved it.

[00:33:31] I was like, these two love each other so much.

[00:33:34] It was such a riot to hear her basically just schlep off her, her kid in favor of her deadbeat

[00:33:43] husband's mom, which is wild to me.

[00:33:47] Yeah.

[00:33:48] A lot of people in the comments are like, he's a mama's boy.

[00:33:50] He's blah, blah.

[00:33:51] Guys, I get that.

[00:33:52] I, I'm, I'm more, I get what they're trying to do with him.

[00:33:57] I just don't think that they're accomplishing it with any teeth, which that character would

[00:34:02] have teeth.

[00:34:03] Just would, in my opinion.

[00:34:05] It's time for what the hallmarks were.

[00:34:06] We wonder what could have been made of this collaborative questions we still have.

[00:34:09] What are we still wondering about?

[00:34:10] No, wait.

[00:34:11] Sorry.

[00:34:11] No, there's no what the hallmark here.

[00:34:13] It's this really important segment called chicken or fried.

[00:34:17] Jax, are you chicken or are you fried this week?

[00:34:20] And you can only pick one this week.

[00:34:22] You're right.

[00:34:23] I'm putting a limit on you.

[00:34:24] Can't do both.

[00:34:26] I'm fried.

[00:34:26] I'm fired up.

[00:34:28] I can't wait for next week.

[00:34:29] I also want to know why the dad did not show up on the Zoom.

[00:34:33] Is he dead?

[00:34:34] What's going on?

[00:34:35] Yeah.

[00:34:35] Didn't, didn't, didn't even respond.

[00:34:38] That's the chicken of the week.

[00:34:39] He's a chicken.

[00:34:40] He's not the chicken.

[00:34:40] I'm chicken because of Cardi Wong's character.

[00:34:44] I'm nervous.

[00:34:45] Yeah.

[00:34:45] This, they, this show is teasing it.

[00:34:48] They're not giving us a lot of what's going on there.

[00:34:51] Aside from we get the, you know, the scene in the freezer, which doesn't show us anything.

[00:34:56] Yeah.

[00:34:56] We see, you know, him in, in her house today in the window and Nancy clocks that.

[00:35:03] We also see him at church with his family.

[00:35:06] And so, you know, I think there's lots of theories out there about what's going on there.

[00:35:10] Yeah.

[00:35:11] And I think maybe we jumped to the, they're together.

[00:35:14] We did.

[00:35:15] Thing.

[00:35:16] But, but I will, I will just say I'm, I'm, I'm worried that when it finally does come

[00:35:22] out as to what's happening, it's going to be disappointing.

[00:35:25] And maybe that's just, you know, I'm too, I've seen a lot of shows here on Hallmark and I've

[00:35:31] been disappointed a lot in revelations.

[00:35:34] And so I'm concerned, but so far the show has done a good job of not disappointing me.

[00:35:37] So we'll see.

[00:35:38] And also Wednesday morning Kylie tickets.

[00:35:40] Thank you so much for that, Alonzo.

[00:35:42] That is accurate.

[00:35:43] Kylie tickets on Wednesday morning.

[00:35:45] We will make sure that we mark that down.

[00:35:49] But you had to get the Kylie tickets.

[00:35:51] I am fried based upon purely Wednesday morning Kylie tickets.

[00:35:55] Well, that's the only thing.

[00:35:56] That's the thing.

[00:35:57] People aren't thinking about that.

[00:35:58] They're not thinking about it.

[00:36:00] They're not thinking about Kylie.

[00:36:01] Yeah.

[00:36:01] Mamie's as well.

[00:36:02] That goes without saying.

[00:36:03] It's time for chicken of the week.

[00:36:04] Dan, who do we have today?

[00:36:05] Beverly is who we have this week.

[00:36:07] Beverly.

[00:36:08] That's right.

[00:36:08] Beverly.

[00:36:09] And it sent in as Beverly.

[00:36:12] Are you okay?

[00:36:13] Well, the thing about Kylie is if you wait.

[00:36:17] If you don't get Kylie tickets on Wednesday, you're never going to get them.

[00:36:21] Sorry.

[00:36:21] Sorry.

[00:36:21] Yeah.

[00:36:22] Beverly.

[00:36:23] The whole email just says Beverly above the rest early.

[00:36:26] I don't know anything else about it.

[00:36:27] That's all I have about Beverly here in front of me right now.

[00:36:32] Do you have anything?

[00:36:34] I don't have anything.

[00:36:34] You don't have anything?

[00:36:35] No.

[00:36:36] All right.

[00:36:36] What was that?

[00:36:37] No.

[00:36:38] No.

[00:36:38] You're getting it all wrong.

[00:36:40] You're getting it all wrong.

[00:36:41] I'm getting it all wrong?

[00:36:43] What does that mean?

[00:36:44] It's bevenily.

[00:36:47] Bevenily?

[00:36:48] Bevenily.

[00:36:49] It says Beverly.

[00:36:50] No.

[00:36:50] I'm looking closer now.

[00:36:52] It says B-E-V-E-N.

[00:36:53] You're dumb.

[00:36:54] You're dumb.

[00:36:55] You're dumb skull.

[00:36:56] Bevenily?

[00:36:56] But I want it on the record.

[00:36:58] I want it on the record.

[00:36:59] I want it on the record.

[00:37:00] Is better than the rest early?

[00:37:03] Yes.

[00:37:03] Okay.

[00:37:04] That's true.

[00:37:06] But say your name with respect.

[00:37:08] You're out here.

[00:37:09] You're calling for chicken of the week.

[00:37:11] I sent an email.

[00:37:11] You get the name wrong.

[00:37:12] Bevenly.

[00:37:13] I don't know why I thought it was Beverly.

[00:37:15] I'm sorry.

[00:37:15] It was an N, not an R.

[00:37:17] Nothing I can do about it.

[00:37:18] She's a good chicken.

[00:37:19] She's a good chicken.

[00:37:20] She's better than the rest of her week.

[00:37:22] She's 1430.

[00:37:26] She's 1430 years old.

[00:37:28] So that's where we're at.

[00:37:32] She's 1430.

[00:37:33] She's 1430.

[00:37:34] 14 going on 30.

[00:37:35] She's...

[00:37:36] I hate that.

[00:37:41] Wise.

[00:37:43] All right.

[00:37:44] We did it, everybody.

[00:37:44] We're going to go.

[00:37:45] See you next time for another one.

[00:37:47] Until then, we're the first to wish you a Merry Christmas.
