Today we are workshopping a potential new podcast - The Diss List!
When people send us lists ("20 Best DCOMS of ALL Time" or "The Best Hallmark Christmas Movies" etc.) we debate them pretty heavily in the studio. We thought it would be fun to share some of those debates with you. Ryan Pappolla is here this week with a list of his favorite sports movies for Dan & Bran to critique and offer changes.

[00:00:01] Hi, I'm Ryan and on my notes app here. I hold the 10 greatest sports movies of all time
[00:00:08] Hi, I'm bran
[00:00:09] And I'm here to let you know that Ryan does not hold the list of the 10 best sports movies of all time
[00:00:14] Hi, I do hi
[00:00:15] I'm Dan and I'm here to tell you that
[00:00:17] Bran doesn't hold the best list of sports movies I do and this is the dis list
[00:00:31] Oh
[00:00:41] That deck the hallmark theme music means one thing and one thing only
[00:00:45] Yes, welcome to a very special episode of deck the hallmark where we try something new we've tried we've done games
[00:00:52] We've done games which we've conquered. I'm proud to ask this is the game kind of
[00:00:57] Yeah this week we are trying to crack lists, and I think you have a pretty fun way to do that we do
[00:01:04] But Ryan welcome back to the show it's been a while
[00:01:08] Really happy to see you
[00:01:11] Yet ten seconds. What's new?
[00:01:14] You know like
[00:01:16] Good good outings for Cleveland sports as of late sorry bran, but yeah, no I'm alright
[00:01:21] I've been building really messed up. It was super messed up. Why would you say?
[00:01:27] I've been building out my my shelving in the office
[00:01:31] I'll probably post a video to the Facebook group soon because I'm back on Facebook
[00:01:34] That's really able jam calm if you want to see the shelving units that Ryan is installing now is your chance
[00:01:40] You all saw them really early on into their into the process. It's it's totally different trust the process has never been
[00:01:49] I will say this about Ryan Ryan so in South Carolina's illegal to bet
[00:01:54] Do any bets online you can't
[00:01:58] And so occasionally I will text Ryan Popola and be like you throw 25 on Cleveland like maybe a half dozen times and
[00:02:06] Real quick, I'm not sure if that's exactly totally above board so Dan just gives me suggestions for things for me to bet
[00:02:15] 25 on it for me no I
[00:02:18] Should do this for you you should do this and without fail Ryan
[00:02:22] 100% of the time always is such a good sport. He always does do that
[00:02:26] He throws the money on there for him obviously and for fun. This is fun
[00:02:31] So Saturday, I'm sitting at the Domino's pizza pickup window because Domino's
[00:02:37] Screwed up my kids pizza and send it with a delivery driver to someone else's house
[00:02:42] Thank You Domino's on Pleasantburg Drive and thanks to Derek Derek enjoyed that pizza
[00:02:48] And and so I'm sitting there while they remake the food in the pickup window, and I'm just looking I'm like
[00:02:53] I don't care about the Kentucky Derby, but who all is running in this thing, and there's a horse named mystic Dan
[00:02:58] And I'm like which I've been calling you for a long time horse named Dan. I'm like
[00:03:03] Ryan's got to know about this. It's 20 to 1 odds, and I'm like Ryan if you're not busy. You should put 50 bucks
[00:03:12] On on mystic Dan. I know it's a long shot, but the name it's a horse
[00:03:16] This makes too much sense 50 bucks would win me or you you would win you a thousand dollars
[00:03:23] If you would do that and and Ryan has always been able to do this because he just is a great guy well Ryan happened
[00:03:29] To be working on Saturday night, and he sent me a text like I really can't I'm working
[00:03:33] I was like no big deal. It was a long shot. It was probably a waste of $50. I'm glad you saved your money
[00:03:40] And then I watched the Derby and by a nose mystic Dan wins
[00:03:47] And that was a thousand dollars that Ryan will never see
[00:03:58] Maybe I bought you some more Power Rangers helmets. I don't know something so these whores just run down a track
[00:04:07] I got blocked
[00:04:12] What's going on what's happened
[00:04:14] I needed a new pin for this great this show that we're doing
[00:04:16] And with a great it was just really it was so stealth, and I'm sorry that I called it
[00:04:22] No one would have noticed now you're watching follow TV so see change. We got a new game. Yeah
[00:04:27] It's called this list yes now
[00:04:30] I just want to say sometimes we sit around here, and we have various ideas the truck sometimes the
[00:04:37] The idea itself comes first sometimes the name comes first
[00:04:41] This was a bit of a hodgepodge beluga because occasionally on the line
[00:04:45] You'll see you know BuzzFeed or other play places posts like lists that are like the ten most defining
[00:04:53] movies of our generation
[00:04:55] D-coms that launched D. Com descendants correct
[00:04:58] They like this list is not you and Aaron were arguing and I was like why don't we do a podcast about this yes?
[00:05:03] We love lists around here. We love lists fan
[00:05:05] We almost all said we loved lists at the top which in retrospect may have been the way to go
[00:05:11] It was a little less McCarthyism
[00:05:14] And so what we've decided to do is
[00:05:18] instead of tearing apart a
[00:05:20] Strangers list and telling them that they're wrong
[00:05:22] Why don't we get our friends to make and we tear their list up? Yes, and so?
[00:05:27] We invited Ryan to come on here today and to give us his top ten
[00:05:33] favorite sports movies
[00:05:36] Yeah, now if you think we're gonna be quiet while Ryan rattles those off
[00:05:39] I don't know if you've ever heard a podcast before but that's not how those work
[00:05:43] Ryan's gonna read us this list starting at 10 going up to 1 and he's gonna sell us on that
[00:05:48] Being where it should be we're gonna have a go at the list obviously after every one of them and then after it
[00:05:55] We're gonna have some fun and the short version is we're gonna get to the rules as we go along
[00:05:59] But Ryan's gonna have to choose either my list or brands lists
[00:06:04] to be the list of top ten sports move and that will be a bit of a combination of
[00:06:09] several things several things so listen as you as we as we go along and
[00:06:14] And also if you're listening and you just to deck the hallmark listener and you're driving your car like I thought I was gonna hear
[00:06:19] More deck the hallmark one. Sorry, but two if you could listen and just give your feedback
[00:06:23] We'd love to hear it because this could be its own podcast. We don't have enough going on
[00:06:28] We'd love to add to our to our work schedule
[00:06:31] So if you like it, it could be something that we do regularly with other guests
[00:06:34] Not just Ryan if you can believe it
[00:06:36] But also in three if you want some more deck the hallmark and you're like, oh man
[00:06:40] Popola really screws things up. Don't worry in a few months from now. I'll also be revealing all the Star Wars on this beat
[00:06:49] He's making some
[00:06:50] Shelving and you're gonna get to see that video if you join Bramble Jam plus it's true
[00:06:55] Without further ado, we are gonna start again
[00:06:58] We're talking best sports movies of all times you all at home may have your own thoughts on this
[00:07:02] We would love to make your own list. Let us know at Hallmark podcast on the social medias
[00:07:07] But Ryan, let's let's start with number 10. I can't wait to hear your list. I'm sure it is going to make us all angry
[00:07:17] Thank you. I only had two bit of criteria that I abided by in terms of stuff that didn't make the list
[00:07:23] I just kind of mentally said
[00:07:26] Alright, how much sports were in this movie and if I didn't feel there was enough sports in it
[00:07:30] So for example, I love draft day draft days not gonna make the list. Yes. There's not enough sport. It's a great example
[00:07:36] I love that and then my other criteria and maybe I don't know
[00:07:39] Maybe if someone else did this they wouldn't have felt the same. I left any document documentary off the dreams
[00:07:44] Not on the list hoop dreams like the last dance could have been number one if I was
[00:07:49] Like so dreams would be on my list, but I love that qualification. I will not sell you on hoop dreams. I love
[00:07:56] What about Danny's big day, which is hard documentary part movie number two, actually
[00:08:06] I
[00:08:09] Was at this after you get to one and Danny's big day
[00:08:12] Obviously if there were any that were close like an honorable mention or two, you have a category. Yeah, great
[00:08:17] All right
[00:08:17] Do that last though because I don't want to spoil it for the ten
[00:08:20] I would love to hear the ten as and thinking they could be anything cool
[00:08:24] All right
[00:08:24] But yeah
[00:08:24] I think those are the only bit of criteria that I really kind of held myself to everything else was fair game
[00:08:29] I love that shall we begin? I love it. Let's do it number 10. All right number 10
[00:08:34] 1998 classic film directed by Greg Beeman Disney Channel's Brink
[00:08:50] Not the assignment
[00:08:52] No, no
[00:08:55] Spot on this list. I was
[00:08:58] Believable you are out of your mind. I was told these are my favorites where I
[00:09:03] Crazy we started I emphasize the word favorite
[00:09:07] You know like if you expected raging bull to be at number 10
[00:09:11] We have a real issue like you shouldn't have asked me to do this then
[00:09:14] You know, I can't believe we didn't say at least in the theater now Ryan's right?
[00:09:19] I
[00:09:20] Tell us why you love this. Sorry excuse for a movie Ryan
[00:09:23] I mean, I really if you just take everything that Dan has said about it on public forums as of late and reverse that that would
[00:09:29] Be the reason but no like listen Brink is a vital film of my youth
[00:09:34] I think as watching it as an adult the skating is filmed exceptionally well
[00:09:38] I think they do a lot of interesting. It was the role that Eric von Detten was born to play
[00:09:42] I'm surprised. I'm surprised it's not higher number 10 Greg Beeman's Brink for 1998
[00:09:50] Shout out to Greg Beeman. Um, I have to be honest. I didn't I I feel like I know you relatively well
[00:09:58] I still didn't see I don't see come I'm thrilled that it that it is here
[00:10:02] I'm also thrilled to be able to shout out D. Com descendants a podcast that we of course great. Yes
[00:10:08] Come on over having a lot of fun
[00:10:10] We're also trying to get to 100 reviews in the next couple of weeks before episode 20. So help us get there. We're close
[00:10:14] Um, I love a D comes on this list. There are so many great sports movies Ryan. I love I love barely made it
[00:10:21] I love Brink. I
[00:10:23] Love that it is on your on your list
[00:10:25] I don't even think I would have even thought about it
[00:10:28] And so the fact that you even came to your mind and that you did it
[00:10:32] I don't know. I don't know if it would have made my top 10. There's but I'm happy that
[00:10:38] I'm happy that it's there. Yeah, I'm happy that it's there Dan
[00:10:41] You're really not happy Ryan and you didn't even know the format
[00:10:45] The crazy part is is what we get to do to your list, which you're everybody's gonna find out later
[00:10:48] You didn't know when you made this list and you still put Brink at number 10, which strategically is kind of a it's an interesting
[00:10:55] move an interesting move is how important is 10? Yeah, how important is 10 but
[00:11:00] Ryan if I just googled sports movies
[00:11:04] I would if and I read you the first eight or nine like movies that
[00:11:09] The seventh best baseball movie is better than Brink, right? Like
[00:11:14] the natural a
[00:11:17] Bull Durham field of dreams like just in the base
[00:11:20] category damn genuinely your argument is tough to be digested when the only film out of all those that have been
[00:11:27] Reviewed by you is Brink. That's true. Yeah. Okay. Well, that's because we don't have a baseball movie podcast. We have a
[00:11:36] podcast
[00:11:38] Ryan
[00:11:39] You cannot possibly look at me with a straight face and say that this is one of the 10 best
[00:11:43] I don't know that then the assignment was not 10 fast sports
[00:11:49] But we expect a little bit of decorum. I just a little bit of like
[00:11:54] understanding
[00:11:55] Movie I expect isn't even a movie
[00:11:58] And was the assignment 10 bastard 10 favorite who can really say and I think I think regardless
[00:12:04] I think favorite and best there
[00:12:08] And you can do what you want to from this point forward. We're gonna make it theatrical releases only because this is
[00:12:16] People kids should be able to do whatever and if there is a movie that didn't go to theaters because that would that
[00:12:23] To that point does Netflix count does Netflix count? Yeah, Netflix does theatrical releases for all their big ones
[00:12:29] Okay, but did the Adam did the Adam Sandler basketball?
[00:12:33] One screen one time so it accounts for Academy. Okay fine
[00:12:36] I will rent out a theater and I'll put brink in it like it's a game
[00:12:40] We want to play production studio has to do it not have a production studios called Bramble Jim
[00:12:46] Did you make the movie? I know but I'll get the rights
[00:12:53] Gotta go to number nine rank in a theater at Bramble Fest
[00:12:59] Number nine that sound that you may got us to TV 14 somehow on phylo. I don't know how
[00:13:08] Number nine Dan it's gonna get better, but it might not get better here number nine
[00:13:12] I'm if nothing but not predictable
[00:13:14] 1996 directed by Robert Lieberman give me d3 the Mighty Ducks
[00:13:18] God Almighty, I don't know why we did this. I thought it was a good idea
[00:13:23] It was Brandon and I came up with this idea together. We put our heads together
[00:13:28] We thought this is the best of our two personalities in one podcast and now
[00:13:33] Ryan Popola whom I love like a brother now. I want to throw him off a bridge. I just can't believe this
[00:13:40] I looked at Brandon Gray and I said wait though, but seriously, sorry
[00:13:45] There's no way you to bring me on don't expect d3 the Mighty Ducks
[00:13:50] What did I show to you an hour ago brain? I don't remember. I said
[00:13:54] Do you think he'll actually play d3 is one of the best there's no way
[00:14:01] Why do you think that d3?
[00:14:03] Should be on the list of the top 10 your top 10 favorite. Why does it belong there?
[00:14:09] Why is it at 9? I think it has the best emotional core of all three Mighty Ducks films
[00:14:13] I think you see a young Joshua Jackson coming into his own as one of the better
[00:14:18] kind of working actors of our generation, you know, and
[00:14:22] There's no one like I couldn't even say that with a straight face
[00:14:26] You know nothing like a little nothing nothing hockey all the way through the third period
[00:14:31] You're like Jimmy Fallon breaking in an SNL sketch right now
[00:14:36] This movie had enough sport for you. Oh
[00:14:39] Yeah, I mean yeah, listen they play they yeah, absolutely there's two big hockey game set pieces and then
[00:14:46] Portman's letter got lost Portman's letter was lost Ryan. Listen, the mail to Chicago is tough that time here
[00:14:54] Also only 96 and I know you went first last time. I'm gonna go first this time one. This movie is inexcusably bad, too
[00:15:00] To
[00:15:03] Question for you, which is you have corrected me twice in saying that you have d2 ahead of d3
[00:15:10] did in
[00:15:12] Playing d3 at 9. Are we to assume that d2 is also
[00:15:19] Such a weight 30% of your list is Brink and two Mighty Ducks movies you
[00:15:26] What?
[00:15:28] Not gonna get better
[00:15:32] Really quickly, you know, I'm not surprised that this has happened
[00:15:37] I will say the only thing they take offense to is you saying that d3 is better than Brink I would
[00:15:42] I my I would raise an eyebrow there, but not surprised to see it on the list, especially knowing you
[00:15:49] And you playing it at 9 is another
[00:15:53] interesting
[00:15:54] Strategic move because Dan and I are gonna get a chance to play with your list a little bit
[00:15:58] And so I gotta be honest, you know
[00:16:00] What is it spoiler one of the things that I that we get to do with your list is Dan and I will each get to
[00:16:06] flip one of them
[00:16:07] And so I'm early on already eyeing a Brink d3 switch him up
[00:16:13] I'm already I can I be honest Brant. I think I'm with you that Brink is better than d3
[00:16:19] I
[00:16:21] Don't know that I'm with you. I'd have to really think and go to the war room on that
[00:16:25] I met I don't know. I'd have to I need to watch d3
[00:16:30] I've not seen d3 since I saw it in the theaters
[00:16:33] So I mean
[00:16:34] I do need to watch d3 again
[00:16:37] So I would give Ryan the benefit of the doubt that it belongs ahead of Brink
[00:16:41] But neither of these movies belong in a top 100 sports movies list top 100
[00:16:48] There are there are five sports movies made in 1993 and 94 better than these two movies
[00:16:54] Well, honestly my list may touch on that in a bit here
[00:16:57] This is this is this is like way harder we didn't give ourselves enough power you're doing a great job Ryan go ahead number eight
[00:17:04] Thank you number number eight. We're gonna go to the 80s 1985
[00:17:09] Another franchise film directed by Sly Stallone. Give me Rocky for at number eight
[00:17:17] The one where he solves the Cold War Ryan the Rocky the one where it's all
[00:17:25] Are you are you pro Cold War?
[00:17:32] What's so awesome about Rocky for Ryan I
[00:17:36] It's a music video and film form, right and it's you know, there's a great emotional base now
[00:17:42] I will say I didn't know what the rules were here
[00:17:45] If you've seen the rocky for directors cut that hit theaters a couple years back an infinitely better film and I love that
[00:17:51] Oh like and so honestly, listen, I'm doing a bit of a bit here
[00:17:55] But I'm also being serious but take all my hyperbole away. The rocky for directors cut is great
[00:18:00] It's infinitely better than rocky for his rock for is like 90 minutes and 20 minutes or montages
[00:18:06] Things that happen in Rocky 3 like or fighting
[00:18:09] We we we cut back on some of the montages and the directors cut we add a
[00:18:14] Really like a lot of gravitas for the Apollo Creed death
[00:18:17] Spoiler if you haven't seen the rocky for directors cut and you're a fan of the rocky franchise. I recommend it
[00:18:22] But so if you want to say this directors cut of the regular by all means, but listen, I love rocky for it's an incredibly
[00:18:27] Fun film by the time he's roaring at the top of that mountain like, you know
[00:18:31] You just you just feel something right?
[00:18:33] And what are we going to the cinema for or your TV screen if it's brink if not to feel if not to feel something
[00:18:38] Yeah, Brian. Have you seen rocky for I don't think I have seen rocky for I know I've definitely not seen all the Rockies
[00:18:44] I've seen a few of them. I have seen all the creeds I
[00:18:49] Yeah, but I like I like it the the Rockies that I have seen
[00:18:54] I have not seen one where I'm like, that's a turd of a movie
[00:18:58] But also came out before I was born and so there's only so much like
[00:19:03] If there was an attachment to like growing up with it, I don't have it
[00:19:06] And so there's some of that that plays into these type of movies, especially
[00:19:11] So I'm I have not a lot to add up to whether or not this belongs on the list
[00:19:16] But I'm happy to see rocky on the list if that makes is this your favorite rocky movie Ryan?
[00:19:25] Yeah
[00:19:28] Scared of is we have seven spots left
[00:19:32] But there's there's gonna be another Mighty Tux and rocky because God's not real in the world's not fair. Uh-huh. So
[00:19:40] First of all, you need to know this as a kid as a nine-year-old kid rocky four is my favorite rocky movie
[00:19:47] No question about it when he beats Ivan Drago at the end of that movie the the blood spit just just flailing everywhere
[00:19:54] And he beats the young this was this was my favorite
[00:19:58] I
[00:19:58] Watched it when Creed came out
[00:20:00] My wife wanted to see Creed and she had never seen any rocky movies and she was like what's the bare minimum?
[00:20:05] I could watch and I said well
[00:20:07] Let's watch the first one and then I talked her through two and then I skipped to four
[00:20:11] Because in four they give you montages that tell you what happened in three
[00:20:15] And I said the quickest way for us to get to the theater for you to see Creed is
[00:20:20] Watch one have me talk to you a little bit about two and watch four then we can go. That's all you need
[00:20:25] When I watched you know, I do rocky if I like we did Terminator fun, that's a long song especially when you guys sit on rocky
[00:20:30] five
[00:20:32] When I watched rocky for again, that's all I'm going on I like it when the gloves go
[00:20:40] Yeah, so when I watched rocky for again, whatever that was what was that six years ago
[00:20:45] I was shocked at how bad a movie it was
[00:20:49] Like I was appalled. It was maybe maybe
[00:20:54] 60 minutes of plot that includes a very brief death of the most beloved character not named rocky in the entire series
[00:21:02] Is that fair? Is that fair Ryan?
[00:21:05] Yeah, I mean the director's cut
[00:21:07] Definitely amends a lot of that. But yeah, I mean the the death of Apollo Creed should have been a bigger
[00:21:11] Oh my gosh, it should have been massive. Yeah, so and then at the end of this movie brand
[00:21:16] I'm just gonna go and spoil the movie he fights Ivan Drago who's just like a roided up Russian robot during the Cold War in the
[00:21:23] 1980s on Christmas Day on Christmas Day Christmas for free for free
[00:21:28] He fights him in Moscow in Moscow for money
[00:21:32] Yeah, and money this guy has killed has murdered Apollo Creed right in the ring
[00:21:37] Yes, he goes and fights him
[00:21:39] He rope adopts him and gets the brains beat out of him for some rounds beats him
[00:21:44] Yeah at the end of the movie grabs a microphone in front of all of these Russian Soviet comrades in their arms
[00:21:53] Grabs the mic and he goes if I can change he changed how he fought and how he trained to beat Ivan
[00:22:00] Then you can change
[00:22:02] To the Soviet Army and the so this is all true
[00:22:05] If I'm lying, I'm dying the Soviet Army stands up and applauds Rocky
[00:22:12] Beating Ivan Drago. It is one of the worst moments
[00:22:17] Movie history have all been swept up in the magic of Christmas
[00:22:23] It's a Christmas film it's a Christmas movie it's the only Christmas film on the list I can't give oh my gosh
[00:22:29] All right, so we did that
[00:22:31] You're saying doesn't hold up. It does not hold up at all
[00:22:34] I can't believe this with three movies in and they're all turds and and I but can you like
[00:22:40] Like confirm 100% that that's not what happens with the war and how it all kind of got figured out
[00:22:45] I can confirm that the war is not the Cold War is not won by rocky
[00:22:50] Alright
[00:22:55] It might be a bit of a of a liberal stretch to say that Rocky saying I can change is in
[00:23:02] Relation to his fighting style. I don't know
[00:23:05] But he had to learn how to train without a gym like he goes to the middle of the Russian mountains
[00:23:10] I've never interpreted it that way. I found it more as though that he was just saying listen, you know
[00:23:20] And I think you're okay you pat my back I pat yours I feel like that was what was happening
[00:23:27] Okay, great, but it's still all the Russian comrades in arms stand up and applaud the American Italian
[00:23:33] The second part of that how you explained it is absolutely
[00:23:41] Alright
[00:23:42] That is is we break are we breaking?
[00:23:45] We can take a quick break we'll come back we'll get to the rest of Ryan's list here on this list
[00:24:01] Welcome back to take the homework a very special episode because we're doing our first ever
[00:24:05] dislist which so far is
[00:24:08] Live it up to its name. Yeah
[00:24:10] So far Ryan's list of the greatest sports movies of all time
[00:24:15] 10 bring 9d 3 the Mighty Ducks and 8 Rocky 4
[00:24:20] And I just want to say if you think this is a troll job, you don't know my friend Ryan, right?
[00:24:25] This is like I took this very seriously
[00:24:29] These are genuinely my 10 favorite sports
[00:24:32] But that is the one thing I will say is Ryan being Ryan is nothing if not sincere
[00:24:36] And that is that this is like when you know
[00:24:40] Listen to the
[00:24:42] With all three of us on at me Brian Dan Ryan was shady
[00:24:45] We did a bit of a we did a bit of weather with some Tom foolery
[00:24:48] There's no Tom foolery
[00:24:49] He's not a drug podcast
[00:24:50] Homer movie Joe you go listen on my movie just or screen drafts if you want some great shows like great shows
[00:24:55] This is not that Ryan is being sincere. He is he gets to keep a lot of this list
[00:25:01] There's nothing we have some power but in thinking about this pilot. We may should have more power
[00:25:07] I didn't think we were gonna need it. But now I think I need double what I said we should get well
[00:25:13] Such as life. Yes
[00:25:16] We should get double
[00:25:18] Let's get to the place. All right to peel the curtain back here a little bit
[00:25:22] Number seven was the last although it's number seven. It was the last film to make the list
[00:25:27] It was the one I had forgotten about until literally this morning before recording. It's from 1996 as a young child
[00:25:34] I thought it was I thought it was real. It was directed by Joe Pitka and it's called space jam. Sorry, Michael George
[00:25:43] I don't have
[00:25:48] Go ahead and explain why this movie is on your list. I mean
[00:25:54] An amazing blend for first of all brand
[00:25:57] I'm sure you had a similar experience as a child an amazing blend of just two of our favorite worlds colliding
[00:26:03] Both for anyone who's unaware space jam stars the Looney Tunes playing
[00:26:26] For anyone
[00:26:37] Who might have started with Michael Jordan
[00:26:51] Could have said Sean Bradley
[00:26:53] Think settled stars Looney Tunes. It's really interesting too because the Looney Tunes it's a really meta
[00:27:07] Like
[00:27:09] It's not like Bugs Bunny it like they're not there thought it was cool as a kid
[00:27:23] I still think it's cool. Now the sequel sucked Fran
[00:27:26] Okay, so I just recently watched a sequel with my kids. They wanted to watch it
[00:27:31] so bad
[00:27:34] First one algae rhythm is the is the villain in that movie
[00:27:39] Need I say more or the Looney Tunes does start the Looney Tunes he has to get him back together, but it does it does
[00:27:47] Yeah, I freaking love this movie
[00:27:50] Adored it as a child and I would just say, you know
[00:27:55] there's a lot of conversation going on about who's the greatest basketball player of all time I
[00:28:00] dare you to watch the
[00:28:03] four-minute long intro set to
[00:28:07] I'm a montage of Michael Jordan playing basketball and say he's not the most
[00:28:12] Electrifying basketball player to ever play the game. Just play the first four minutes of Space Jam and shut your mouth
[00:28:19] Also, you got a great soundtrack. I believe I can fly
[00:28:24] amazing
[00:28:27] And I
[00:28:29] Like you for a long time thought this movie might be real
[00:28:33] I did try to figure out how I could make my arm stretch
[00:28:38] Lots of things that would maybe give me an edge in basketball
[00:28:42] That never came to be but a wonderful movie. I'm happy to see it on the list. I
[00:28:47] love sports
[00:28:49] And I love love movies and I love Ryan Popola. I hate
[00:28:57] Hate all of this
[00:28:59] Everything that we're doing right now. I hate that we came up with this idea. I
[00:29:04] Am saying right now brand we get double we had double what we say we're getting there's no way I can do this without it
[00:29:09] Did I saw this movie as a 13 year old and as a 13 year old who adored Michael Jordan has seen every finals game
[00:29:17] 1991 92 96 97 98 saw them all all of them Blazers Lakers Suns Jazz
[00:29:24] Sonics I saw them all
[00:29:26] Tonics I walked out of the movie theater and went that wasn't good
[00:29:33] You walked out of the theater and said LeBron James best ever
[00:29:37] as a
[00:29:38] 13 year old and was more pretentious at 13 than I'll ever be in my life
[00:29:43] And I do want it on the record that I just I just can't believe this may be the worst movie on this list
[00:29:52] This is this movie Rocky 4 is definitely better than this movie and I think
[00:30:00] D3 and Brink are better than this movie. Uh
[00:30:03] This movie is tough man. I
[00:30:06] This is really
[00:30:08] Heartbreaking, it's heartbreaking that we're gonna put forth some sort of absolute garbage that we have here
[00:30:14] And I love everybody. Well, you will admit though some of Bill Murray's best work Bill Murray's great not so he's a
[00:30:21] How dare you? What do you mean that best work?
[00:30:23] I'm just saying I some of what I will tell you is this he's in in this movie rated for the whole of the 90s
[00:30:29] Everything he was in he was great
[00:30:31] And the 80s for that matter. The here's what I'll say about this is this is of these movies. I
[00:30:39] This one is the one that has the most pedigree to be on this list because of how important it was
[00:30:46] Not for 13 year olds like me but for four and five year olds like brand
[00:30:51] That for those like you were almost five when this came out and you thought it was real
[00:30:56] So I can at least see the value in this pick
[00:31:01] The other three I just I don't know how to make ends meet there. The new ones were so right
[00:31:07] The new I said I was joking. The new one is worse on virtually every level. It's really bad algae rhythm
[00:31:14] Yeah
[00:31:17] You know what I will just say really quickly for and I started this list going I'm excited to see if
[00:31:23] Ryan includes air bud and
[00:31:25] At the beginning of the list. Oh my d at the beginning
[00:31:27] I will go through the screen like the girl from the ring and I will fight you which by the way
[00:31:34] Which by the way, I just rewatched recently
[00:31:37] Oh, I thought you meant the ring the ring is fantastic
[00:31:40] That's fine
[00:31:42] And I would have said probably not but I don't know my hopes are now still alive that everybody could make it to this list
[00:31:49] All right, Ryan. Let's go to number six. I
[00:31:52] Will throw you two specifically Dan a bone I six and five bud. Here we go
[00:31:58] Four through one on my list are locked in on my honorable mentions
[00:32:02] There's some films of but I think the masses would call them more of a qualitative
[00:32:07] It's gonna honorable mentions are gonna sting like nobody's business Ryan
[00:32:11] I'm just telling you right now if that's what you just
[00:32:13] honorable
[00:32:14] I could swap in two films for sick if you for the purpose of the exercise if you want me on the fly here
[00:32:24] But we're gonna double up I think it's fair that we double up because he's got to choose one of our lists
[00:32:28] So if I use all of my stuff and he that means he might not choose it. So it doesn't matter. Yeah. All right, everybody
[00:32:34] We at the end of this show Dan and I each we had talked about getting two things we would get to do one
[00:32:41] Is it is a flip a flip them so we could you know, bring in d3 flip it
[00:32:46] And then also replace where he throw he could throw out space jam add something else in number seven
[00:32:52] So you're saying you want double? Yeah, two flips to replaces
[00:32:55] Aaron is that allowed?
[00:32:58] Yeah, okay
[00:33:00] Alright, don't wanna. All right six go
[00:33:04] Number six, she also watches horror movies as of recently number six
[00:33:09] 1982
[00:33:10] I
[00:33:11] Think the only director on here twice directed by Sly Stallone Rocky three number six
[00:33:16] I like this on deck the homework. We don't curse it's a rule
[00:33:21] It is I get an olive branch here. It is everything I have
[00:33:27] To not unleash profanity right now like rocky three rocky threes way worse than rocky for
[00:33:34] Yeah, rocky threes a joke of a movie Hulk Hogan's picking him up I know why you got it you're a big wrestling guy
[00:33:40] Mr. T. Clubber Lang it is it is the worst
[00:33:45] Brides face. I have seen this movie of the top four of rocky one to four
[00:33:50] Rocky three is the worst one
[00:33:54] Rocky one and two not on the list. Here's the thing. Rocky is a best picture nominee
[00:33:58] Yes, rocky is by far the best film of the six Rockies by far by far
[00:34:06] Cinematic masterpiece rocky is not a fun time at the movies. Have you watched?
[00:34:11] You ever you ever been sitting around on a Thursday when brand gets sick and say let me go home and watch rocky to have
[00:34:16] A fun time like like you don't like Rockies out of fight
[00:34:20] That's very weird like set of circumstances that I felt like weirdly personal and I didn't yeah
[00:34:26] Yeah, cuz bro all the time
[00:34:30] Once a year
[00:34:34] Rockies incredibly fun film the fighting scenes in rocky 3 the boxing itself is by far the best of the three Rockies that had
[00:34:41] Happened so far. They get a little crazy with the sound effects on rocky 4 and beyond
[00:34:46] A really great for a really great performance from mr. T and quite frankly Dan
[00:34:51] I I pity you if you feel otherwise
[00:34:57] I do want to say I have seen this movie and it was a good time
[00:34:59] And so if the qualifications for Ryan's list is not
[00:35:04] Best but best time I and I can see how you got this is so hard
[00:35:10] This hurts man. Our friendships gonna make it but it's gonna just gonna take something
[00:35:15] I told you up front that this could be problematic. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. All right
[00:35:20] I'm just man. Yeah, nothing add we can move on. I'm gonna now before number five. I'm one more time
[00:35:25] I am going to give the option that I can make a quick. No
[00:35:29] That's not how we play the game. We told you your favorites
[00:35:32] That's why we have a different guest every week if we get you every week, then we wouldn't be friends
[00:35:40] We should have let him pick like best Power Ranger movies and I could have been like yeah, that one's good, too
[00:35:49] Yeah, here we go number five is gonna begin a run of films from the year 1994
[00:35:55] my gosh
[00:35:58] Brand you have something that I was just gonna say rightfully so yeah. Thank you a number number five the year 1994
[00:36:07] Directed by Andrew Sheen man. It is Little Big League
[00:36:15] Why Oh
[00:36:17] Little Big League's so III that is not in the top five kids sports movies of the years
[00:36:24] 93-94 there's been a at this point a 30 year old discussion and that 30th anniversary a Little Big League of
[00:36:30] What's the better film?
[00:36:32] About a kid in the majors Little Big League a rookie of the year and I've always been steadfast that it's Little Big League a far
[00:36:38] more believable film
[00:36:40] Far more believable or more believe
[00:36:42] Yeah, I mean a little tight tendons healed tight Ryan. Yeah
[00:36:47] You know
[00:36:47] the science just isn't there and a Little Big League if you if you if you take all of the
[00:36:53] premise away about it just a kid being a manager of a baseball team a
[00:36:57] Very just a fun journey about the Minnesota Twins ultimately losing to prime Ken Griffey jr
[00:37:01] And one of my favorite jokes in cinematic history is in this film number five little big league smart house. Yeah, what's your favorite?
[00:37:09] What's your joke?
[00:37:11] When they're doing that if you've seen it recently
[00:37:13] About how quickly if person a starts painting the house and person B is gonna paint the house
[00:37:18] I wouldn't do the joke justice, but it's very very very funny. Very good joke
[00:37:23] We've been talking around the office a lot lately about early early 90s family movies sports movies
[00:37:33] Specifically I and it came out that I have not seen this movie. Yeah, you've not seen it. That's right, and it's not streaming anywhere
[00:37:41] I have it on VHS. Yeah, I also do to now as well. So I
[00:37:46] Do now it was sent to me in the mail
[00:37:49] so if I could just borrow your player, um
[00:37:52] I have several yeah, I do just want you to know though that I did just rewatch rookie of the year
[00:38:04] Don't say it like that absolutely it's a masterpiece right
[00:38:09] No, it's a masterpiece hot ice and so I haven't seen little big league it is now and now I'm gonna have to figure it out
[00:38:16] Because there's just too much too too many people at this point
[00:38:21] This conversation been going on for too long too long. So I've got to get this figured out but if it
[00:38:27] You are saying it's better than rookie of the year and I just find it hard to believe
[00:38:30] There's all I'm saying. I just find it hard to believe that anything really could be
[00:38:35] Wow
[00:38:37] So it's a masterpiece I'm gonna try to keep my cool here which is real tough
[00:38:41] In 93 and 94 all of the following movies came out
[00:38:46] D to the Mighty Ducks
[00:38:48] rookie of the year angels in the outfield
[00:38:52] Little big league the sandlot
[00:38:56] cool runnings and
[00:38:58] One other one. What was the seventh one? I forgot Rudy Rudy came out in
[00:39:03] Seven as we call it here. Yes. Yeah, I think I'm still missing one more
[00:39:08] I think there's eight great eight as we call it here. Yeah, here's what I will tell you of the eight seven movies
[00:39:14] I just named for you little big league is the worst and I'm not saying it's bad
[00:39:19] I'm not saying it's bad Ryan it for a ten-year-old me eleven-year-old me. It was a fine movie
[00:39:25] It was it was a carbon copy. It was like a LaCroix
[00:39:30] Rookie of the year
[00:39:32] I'm just telling you this is an abomination. I
[00:39:37] There are seven other movies in that little window there that I would have over this movie
[00:39:42] I know what I know. Well, well Rudy, I'm not counting into like the Rudy probably doesn't fit with that
[00:39:48] It's not kids it Rudy's not kids. That's why I know which one you forgot. I have it
[00:39:53] It's the next on my list. Don't say it's next on my list sandlots little giant little Giants. That's what it is
[00:39:58] At number four little Giants
[00:40:01] believable, this is
[00:40:02] Also, how fun two movies that start with the word little back-to-back
[00:40:06] Genuinely, I don't know what to do. I don't even know how to fix this
[00:40:11] Directed by Dwayne Dunham. I watch it every Super Bowl weekend as long as time permits a
[00:40:16] Classic tale of good and evil Ed O'Neill
[00:40:19] One of the most underrated actors of our time Rick Moran is some of his finest work boy. Don't we miss Rick Moranis?
[00:40:25] Don't we? Yeah
[00:40:28] A few years ago that beat him up in the streets of New York City. How dare you?
[00:40:34] We've forgiven you the guy that beat up Rick Moran
[00:40:39] He's a regular listener to this close to coming back and he said, you know, this is why I don't do stuff
[00:40:44] This is why I don't do stuff Rick Moranis and Jonathan Taylor Thomas
[00:40:48] Just sipping my ties on their private island talking about how they used to be the biggest stars in the world. Yep. I
[00:40:53] Love this a hot take from Ryan giving mid mid 70s white guy at O'Neill the most underrated actor
[00:41:03] I adore this movie as well
[00:41:07] just huge huge for me growing up and
[00:41:11] Tell me
[00:41:14] That you don't every time you're in the supermarket you don't think about throwing toilet paper
[00:41:21] For practice you don't think about it. You've never thought about it
[00:41:26] You don't get together with your pals throw some toilet paper in the in the aisles of the supermarket
[00:41:34] I've not seen this movie since it came out in the theater
[00:41:38] Um, I will admit that I do remember it having a like having a fun time
[00:41:44] but I
[00:41:47] Don't even know what to do and I was really counting on four to one
[00:41:51] He had brought the whole time Ryan was just like very clear that from four to one
[00:41:56] things were gonna turn back in my favor and
[00:42:02] These were the first four I thought of instantly they were locked in for a moment. They're locked in
[00:42:07] For those of you unfamiliar
[00:42:09] Spacejams starts the loony
[00:42:11] I
[00:42:21] Brand I'm sure you're going back to space jam for a second because it's important
[00:42:25] But Jordan comes back at the end of space jam my six-year-old brain
[00:42:29] I was like, oh like this is the true story of what he was doing while he was away
[00:42:35] 100% yeah
[00:42:37] Why he came back to basketball like as it wasn't until I was a teenager where I was like
[00:42:42] Oh, I think this was a work of fiction. He fell in love me fell in love
[00:42:45] He fell out of love with the game of basketball
[00:42:47] He said I really wanted to do a single baseball and then dad gum it he realized that there is nothing better
[00:42:53] than then then coming together with a group of friends and tunes and
[00:42:58] Playing the game that you love. It wasn't anything to do the fact that his father died. Oh
[00:43:03] That's not covered in the film. It's not important. His dad's in the film. All right, we got three left
[00:43:08] Is it break time? Is it break time now? Let's take another break
[00:43:21] Take the hallmark special edition is this list
[00:43:25] Thank you Ryan. And this is you this is Ryan's list for best sports movies of all time so far
[00:43:33] starting at 10 brink
[00:43:36] d3 the Mighty Ducks
[00:43:38] Rocky for space jam starring Looney Tunes
[00:43:43] Rocky 3 at 5 little big league
[00:43:47] For little Giants that brings us to number three, which is what please just one movie one
[00:43:54] one last
[00:43:56] gem from the year 1994
[00:44:00] Directed by the great Sam Weissman
[00:44:04] To its d2 the might a film that has
[00:44:08] influenced the style to this day
[00:44:11] For 30 years people have thought the knuckle puck was real and attainable change hockey
[00:44:16] I in I would say genuinely
[00:44:19] genuinely
[00:44:21] Popularized street hockey to the degree for the rest of the 90s and early 2000s in which it was far more so than clerks
[00:44:28] Was d2 the Mighty Ducks?
[00:44:30] an international story
[00:44:34] Joshua Jackson
[00:44:36] Leading up to his performance in d3 where he becomes one of the great young actors of the early 2000s d2 the Mighty Ducks
[00:44:42] Oh had to think about it at number one really
[00:44:49] Consider it for a time period had it at number two
[00:44:52] We had three one two, three and four were there and then it was about figuring the order
[00:44:56] Ultimately ironically d2 lands at number three here on the list of the ten best sports movies of all time on this list
[00:45:05] It's a perfect movie perfect. It's a perfect movie from start kids movie. It's a perfect from start to finish
[00:45:12] and
[00:45:13] I still get chills
[00:45:16] When I watch this movie, it's it's a masterpiece and
[00:45:20] I'm a little bit
[00:45:22] bummed that it's at three
[00:45:24] so hold on hope for air bud
[00:45:26] But you better you better have some hum hum dingers got you two and one because d2 d2 is too good
[00:45:33] It's too good
[00:45:35] It's the perfect none of these movies are hot. None of these movies are in the top 10 best sports movies of all time
[00:45:41] Just read one book
[00:45:43] Of the movies that he has mentioned so far
[00:45:47] D2 is my favorite of those movies that he's mentioned
[00:45:59] You here's the thing is it would be fun if he was always hosting and doing the list
[00:46:02] But I don't think I can do it. I can't do a weekly show where I get this angry at Ryan. He's too nice a guy
[00:46:08] This is the best movie you've mentioned so far and it is maybe a third top 30
[00:46:13] Thanks. Thanks, Ryan. Thank you
[00:46:17] Do we want to go to number two, I would love that. Yeah. Yeah. All right, because we're already almost an hour and
[00:46:24] At number two
[00:46:26] Brand you can sing the little jingle if you want from the year 2000
[00:46:29] Directed by I might get this wrong Boaz. Yeah, Ken. It's remember the Titans. That's exactly
[00:46:35] You let him like hush. It's his list and
[00:46:39] Remember the Titans for a very very long time
[00:46:42] A decade plus was my favorite sports film of all time
[00:46:46] And now listen, I know that ultimately my list has been
[00:46:50] From my youth heavy and remember the Titans falls under that category
[00:46:53] But I would say it's one of those Disney films, especially Disney proper films
[00:46:57] That I think transcended being I think it's more than a kid's film. I think it was very
[00:47:01] Informative literally for me as a young kid. I also just think it's a really good sports movie
[00:47:06] I think there's a great performance from Denzel Washington several others are Ryan got I mean a star-studded cast Ryan Gosling what Harris the list
[00:47:12] Goes on and on and on. I love this movie. I think it holds up. I frickin love it. Remember the Titans number two
[00:47:20] It is my favorite sports movie and it is one of my favorite movies of all time
[00:47:24] I'm so happy to see it. Wish it was number one on your list because then we could really hug but
[00:47:29] I'm really interested to see what you have at number one
[00:47:32] Cuz man, I think he might have the movie that he should have at number one
[00:47:37] Which makes me so happy because I think we've talked about it actually weirdly enough
[00:47:40] I mean I could be way off but I think weirdly enough we've talked about this and maybe I'm
[00:47:46] Off-base because I find so few people that agree with me on this and I think that's the thing
[00:47:50] I'm off-base because I find so few people that agree with me on this and I think Ryan might be one of them which might
[00:47:55] Salvage this whole thing. This is the first movie so far that would be on my top ten list
[00:48:00] Oh, wow, Dan likes the list
[00:48:02] So I'm gonna have to remember the Titans. I mean what coach
[00:48:08] doesn't want to have
[00:48:10] The the speech that will Patton gets to give in this movie
[00:48:13] I mean even mention what everything you said about this movie is true Denzel at the P at peak Denzel
[00:48:20] Gosling you got so much going on here
[00:48:22] And then will Patton comes in with they better not gain another yard and I could do the whole speech for you
[00:48:28] I'm not gonna do it chills. Just thinking about it. This is it right here. Like this is
[00:48:35] Sports movies in a nutshell. Are there better sports movies qualitatively? Yeah, it's Raging Bull a
[00:48:41] Better film then remember the Titans. Yes is the color of money a better film?
[00:48:47] Yes, remember the Titans better movie it is it is just sheer joy and sheer awesome
[00:48:54] What a cast what a time great pick right out of maybe had it at four or five
[00:48:58] But I can't argue with it at two especially looking at what we got so far great pick right? Thank you so much
[00:49:04] Appreciate that. Yeah, are we ready for number one ready?
[00:49:08] Dan I I'm trying to rack my brain about what conversation we could have had
[00:49:12] I don't think I would be actually shocked if this well brand knows my number one and it is off the beaten path
[00:49:17] So if you say it, he'll know immediately. All right
[00:49:20] So for 15 years, remember the Titans was my favorite sports film of all time until the year 2015 Wow
[00:49:27] This film once I give the director away, we'll give it away so I will just do a quick preamble
[00:49:32] That I do not like this movie because of things that had come before it
[00:49:36] I genuinely and listen, I know that I yeah
[00:49:38] I I just think this film is so well made so many incredible performances was robbed in some ways at
[00:49:46] The Oscars directed by Ryan Coogler Creed. Yes, my favorite sports film of all time. This movie is
[00:49:52] Fantastic you get it, but show you how good Ryan Coogler is and listen
[00:49:56] I know that I've just talked about how great space jam and a little big league are so it's maybe
[00:50:00] Hypocritical for me to talk about like hardcore directing now, but Ryan Coogler gives you a full
[00:50:05] Boxing match in the middle of this film one take multiple rounds. It's incredible
[00:50:12] Michael B. Jordan is fantastic slice to launch at one best supporting absolutely
[00:50:17] The the moment in the 11th round when Michael B
[00:50:19] Jordan is basically done for out cold on the mat and sees a series of images including just a
[00:50:26] Perfectly edited a quick snapshot of Carl Weathers may he rest as Apollo Creed and then gets up
[00:50:31] I rarely watch films. I really watched scenes of films. I usually watch a whole movie. I don't watch it
[00:50:38] I will watch that final fight seed from Creed all the time. It's fantastic. It's my favorite fight sports movie of all time
[00:50:45] undoubtedly Creed
[00:50:48] Yeah, I love this movie it's a great movie and I don't have the attachment to Rocky which helps you know, which helps
[00:50:55] Without everything else. Yeah
[00:50:57] Rocky fan helps. Okay. Yeah, this movie is just as as just a movie is is fantastic
[00:51:03] And so yeah, I get it. I understand. Um, it is not my number one Ryan, but I that's the conversation
[00:51:10] I remember us having is Creed is the best Rocky movie. I agree that Creed is the best Rocky movie
[00:51:15] I had written down in my notes here Creed for Rocky 3
[00:51:19] I was gonna change it in for Rocky 3 because Creed is amazing
[00:51:23] I have cried in two sports movies ever Creed is one of them and I gotta be honest
[00:51:30] Before you see the title card Creed when you see this kid in this home
[00:51:36] And then you see Felicia Rashad and then he's they say what was his name and then it just goes
[00:51:43] Boy, like I am just like this is it
[00:51:47] Creed is amazing. Ryan Coogler's amazing. Michael B. Jordan is amazing. Rocky was a
[00:51:53] Stereotype he was a an Italian
[00:51:56] stereotype
[00:51:57] just meathead
[00:51:59] nobody cares and
[00:52:02] People would do impressions just to see how dumb you could sound to be Rocky for six movies
[00:52:07] And then Sylvester Stallone in this movie is
[00:52:11] Unbelievable. He's not okay for Rocky. He's giving the performance of the year
[00:52:16] He's unbelievable. If you've not seen this movie, you have to see this movie. It's so good. I adore Creed
[00:52:24] Thank you for at for adding some integrity to this list. Love it. Love it at one. Nice job, right?
[00:52:30] Appreciate that real quick real quick because I know we're running along Dan to that point about the opening scene when I first saw it in
[00:52:35] Theaters, I saw it opening week. I saw the day before Thanksgiving 2015 with my mom
[00:52:39] Which definitely also adds to the nostalgia of it. It was great
[00:52:42] I was like Dan like that first scene was so unlike anything we had ever seen in any Rocky film
[00:52:47] I was like I was like mom
[00:52:48] We might be in the wrong movie
[00:52:49] I know that Creed like it was just like Coogler was like I am about to change the game and if you hear the story
[00:52:55] Of Ryan Coogler and his dad. Have you heard that story?
[00:52:58] I mean, yes, try not to cry reading that story thinks his dad's gonna die. They write this movie
[00:53:04] He's like I'm gonna make this movie for you dad because we watched the Rocky movies and you're not gonna be around to see it
[00:53:09] but I'm making this movie for you black lead in a Rocky movie like and
[00:53:14] His dad makes it they find out what's wrong with him
[00:53:17] His dad gets to see that like it is it's just everything you could want in a movie. I just I love it
[00:53:22] I'm so glad that that we've we've had some semblance of order here
[00:53:25] But the other can you give us your ten to one real quick?
[00:53:28] And then well, then we'll make our lists based off of your list
[00:53:31] Yeah for listeners, maybe even who knows like maybe like even like Jax is listening number 10 Frank
[00:53:36] Number 9 d3 the Mighty Ducks number 8 Rocky 4 number 7 Space Jam starring the Looney Tunes
[00:53:44] number 6 Rocky 3
[00:53:46] Number 5 little big league number 4 little Giants number 3 d2 the Mighty Ducks
[00:53:53] Number 2 remember the Titans and then number 1 Creed directed by Ryan Coogler
[00:53:59] Okay. All right. So here's the deal
[00:54:01] We each get two replaces and two flips so you can replace first and flip if you want
[00:54:07] But you get to replaces and two flips to create your list, right?
[00:54:12] Are you ready? I'm ready to go. All right, if you need a little bit
[00:54:15] All right, you're gonna pitch right now Ryan has to choose one of our two remade lists. That's the deal
[00:54:20] We're gonna brands gonna pitch you his list what he's done and I'm gonna pitch you my list and we'll see what happens
[00:54:26] And wait, I just want I am I'm not messing with your top four
[00:54:31] Ryan I think Wow, I think you've done done good work here and I'm just gonna leave it as is
[00:54:36] I am going to do what I said that I might do and
[00:54:42] switch
[00:54:43] Brink and d3 so my number 10 my number 10 will be d3. My number 9 will be brink
[00:54:50] Okay moving to 8
[00:54:52] I'm gonna get rid of Rocky 4
[00:54:56] Okay, and I'm gonna replace and I'm gonna replace it with Hoosiers
[00:55:01] Okay, I love Hoosiers and I just want a little bit more basketball on this list. So sure that's what I'm doing
[00:55:08] 7 space jam. Let's leave it alone. I'm gonna really quickly go down to number 5
[00:55:16] I'm gonna get rid of little big league, but I am gonna stay in the same vein
[00:55:22] Spirit a little big league and I'm gonna replace it with Angels in the outfield. Oh, wow
[00:55:28] What did you think I was gonna do? I thought you're gonna go rookie of the year
[00:55:31] Yeah, sure. Maybe could have why I didn't do that
[00:55:34] I'm gonna do Angels in the outfield because I just rewatched both of them
[00:55:37] And I liked Angels a bit more than than rookie of the year
[00:55:40] So I'm gonna replace it with Angels in the outfield, but then I'm gonna switch five and six
[00:55:45] So I'm gonna move
[00:55:47] Angels in the outfield to six rocky three to five because you made a pitch for
[00:55:53] Rocky three and I want to respect that pitch. I thought it was beautiful and
[00:55:58] Even though Dan hates the movie doesn't think it belongs on the list. I'm gonna say I respect you
[00:56:05] and as somebody who is in the
[00:56:08] You know the the fighting world like you are to say that rocky three is your favorite of the Rockies
[00:56:14] I think I have to take your word for it
[00:56:16] So no
[00:56:17] I'm gonna bump that down to five and then I'll leave your top four the same little Giants d2 remember the Titans and Creed
[00:56:23] so really quick
[00:56:25] 10 d3 mighty ducks nine brink eight Hoosiers seven space jam six angels in the outfield five
[00:56:33] Rocky three four little Giants
[00:56:35] Three d2 to remember the Titans and one Creed for the perfect list of top ten
[00:56:41] Best and real quick Dan before you start
[00:56:44] I just want to say I know that this has been a little bit of an up-and-down experience
[00:56:47] But the fact that we can do a podcast where you have Brink and Hoosiers back-to-back probably means we're doing something, right?
[00:56:52] I think that's right
[00:56:54] Okay
[00:56:56] Here's what I'm gonna do Ryan. Yeah, there are two movies that I think really belong on this list
[00:57:01] I want to respect your top four because I don't think that you're gonna choose my list and
[00:57:07] If I take one of your top, okay, I think you made that clear
[00:57:11] I think you've made that clear if I if I if I f around with d2 or little Giants
[00:57:16] Which are better than these other movies then we've got a problem
[00:57:21] Thank you. My favorite sports movie of all time is a movie called warrior is an MMA movie. Oh, it is it is
[00:57:27] by far
[00:57:29] I've seen it a dozen
[00:57:31] Seen it a dozen times. I've literally cried every time I've watched the movie Nick Nolte amazing
[00:57:38] Tom Hardy Joe Edgerton amazing
[00:57:41] Picture of forgiveness and means nothing's perfect still it's unbelievable fight scenes amazing whole thing is amazing. It's one for me
[00:57:48] I'm not gonna mess with your top four
[00:57:49] I'm just gonna do a hard change their warrior for little big league
[00:57:52] Just put it at five take a little big league out brand and I both did it there totally totally makes sense, right?
[00:57:59] I'm gonna put
[00:58:02] Hoosiers in for d3. I think
[00:58:07] Yeah, I think d2 is a movie that why I don't think it's top 10
[00:58:13] I think it means a lot to me. It means more to you to whatever
[00:58:17] Hoosiers for d3 now
[00:58:20] What I want to do is is I want to move
[00:58:23] Hoosiers so I'm gonna do a double switch. Okay, the first of its kind. Yes. Yeah first episode. I'm doing a double switch
[00:58:30] So I get two switches, right? So what I'm gonna do first is so Hoosiers is at nine currently
[00:58:35] I'm gonna switch rocky three and
[00:58:39] Brink, so I'm gonna put rocky three at ten and I'm gonna put brink at six
[00:58:44] Wow, okay, wait for it
[00:58:47] But then I'm switching a Hoosiers
[00:58:50] And
[00:58:52] Brink at six so moving it back to nine
[00:58:55] What a way to do this
[00:58:58] Okay, so so here's what we have yeah, I need the list
[00:59:02] Okay, my list number ten rocky three number nine
[00:59:07] Brink number eight rocky four number seven is space jam
[00:59:13] Number six is Hoosiers number five is rocky four
[00:59:18] Six is Hoosiers number five is warrior four little Giants 3d to to remember the Titans one Creed
[00:59:24] There's a lot there now now you've got some filmmaking on the list and I still got brink on there
[00:59:30] And I still got all of those rocky movies
[00:59:33] Great list there's one more time hit me with number six one more time six is Hoosiers. Okay. Thank you
[00:59:38] Thank you. All right. I have a good handle on who on whose list
[00:59:41] I have I have both lists written down with my honorable mentions as the barrier in between so I won't forget who's who okay?
[00:59:47] great
[00:59:48] All right, it's time for Ryan to choose which list is the dimensions without describing them first just your honorable mention
[00:59:56] Oh, yeah, no, just real quick. I'll just mention a couple love and basketball
[00:59:59] Yeah, I Tanya King Richard was on the list before I remembered space jam starting Looney Tunes
[01:00:05] Yeah, and you know
[01:00:08] Yeah, I mean so there was a but I mean there was a bunch
[01:00:11] But yeah, those three didn't make it because of Looney Tunes and brink. I just want to be
[01:00:15] Really majorly again, yeah draft. They would have been on the list. Yeah all kinds of better movies
[01:00:21] We got it understood great. Cool. All right
[01:00:26] But man, it's really man, it's really interesting because like warrior is really an excellent film
[01:00:31] It's amazing. And if you're listening to this and you've hated me the whole podcast out there
[01:00:36] Please just go watch warrior. Even if you hate MMA, I hate MMA. I think it's pugilistic and dumb. I don't want to watch it
[01:00:41] I think boxing is great. I think it's a science. I think MMA is tough for me
[01:00:45] It's tough for me to watch it warriors amazing. You should go what is it a good time? It's a great time
[01:00:50] I would show that movie if anyone has said they've never seen it. I'm like we're watching it right now
[01:00:54] I I would watch it on a loop. It's phenomenal
[01:00:57] So listen all all of that from the right guys end agreed with ultimately now I just make a verdict, correct? Yes
[01:01:05] It's tough. It's really tough
[01:01:08] First of all, I just think this was a beautiful exercise in democracy what we've done here today
[01:01:11] And I'm really proud of all of us and I love you all class dismissed
[01:01:15] but ultimately
[01:01:17] fine
[01:01:19] Yeah, yeah
[01:01:21] Tough call really tough call in the end. One of these lists has d3 the mighty ducks on it one does not brand win today
[01:01:27] I thought it might I thought that was gonna cost me. I thought it was gonna cost me
[01:01:31] But I well, I love what you did with warrior. I mean like, you know, I love it
[01:01:36] Yeah, I
[01:01:37] Ultimately, I can't be me for an hour and seven minutes and then not be me in the last
[01:01:41] That's right
[01:01:42] So one last time for those of you at home the definitive list of the best sports movies of all time
[01:01:49] 10 d3 the mighty duck 9 Brink 8
[01:01:54] Hoosiers 7 spaceship star
[01:01:59] 6 angels in the outfields which makes me happy
[01:02:06] 5 rocky 3 4 little Giants 3d to the mighty dogs
[01:02:18] The greatest sports movie of all time
[01:02:21] Creeps a workout after a while. I'll say that we did it everybody. There's angels in the outfield
