[00:07:21] Dan's favorite Christmas movie Of all time That was how I understood it There's a lot of room between Better than holiday and handcuffs And good I want to be very good Brand hit the music bro Hit the music December 9th 2012 On ABC Family's

[00:07:36] One of those movies from here Went a little something like this Holly loves singing She has a cat named Bonkers It's not really that important In the story But I did want to include it It isn't important at all But the cat's name is Bonkers Bonkers

[00:07:50] Bonkers can flush the toilet Is this synopsis primarily about Bonkers? Let's find out Holly is excited to audition For the Snow Bells A Christmas themed Singing group And every year they get together And they sing at the mall And I know those Stakes don't seem high

[00:08:11] But they are astronomical But because of the snow She is late to that audition And despite the fact that The Snow Bells were founded by her mom They say you're late You can't audition But that doesn't stop her She gets up on that stage And she auditions with

[00:08:29] Oh Holy Night Which is Bolt A Bolt move To audition with that song But she didn't and she crushed it She feels good about it But Marcy Marcy's not having it She's the leader of the group No And she is She convinces the rest of the

[00:08:46] The Bells to roll with her And picking Stacey Smom To be the next member Instead of her So she's very sad about this And she goes to her sister's house Her dad Coral Winslow is there Have you heard of him? Boy Boy Boy Underutilized This movie not used

[00:09:10] What the hell is that? This is a good use of hell Her sister Grace encourages her To start her own rival group At first she doesn't like this idea She can just start a group But then She's driving by the mall

[00:09:25] Where the Snow Bells are going to perform On Christmas Eve And she has this crazy idea Why not? Why not just ask? Why not now? That's exactly right So she goes in and she talks to the manager Who is also playing Santa Claus And says like

[00:09:39] Hey, would you consider having another group? And he's like better yet What if we do auditions? Best group gets to perform Christmas Eve At The Mall The stakes got higher brand Oh boy I know The Snow Bells do not take this Well Holly gets to work

[00:09:59] On forming her group And turns out she works with a bunch of talented folks She gets A.J. Bernie A.J. Bernie And I don't remember the other girls name They're all going to join the group And they have a rehearsal And I think it's pretty darn good

[00:10:17] Holly's not so sure She thinks that they're missing something They're missing that extra spark So on her way home from rehearsal She crashes into a snow bank And while waiting for her tow truck She goes into a bar And she sees her boss, Nick

[00:10:31] Who's typically grumpy old Nick Crushing some karaoke And when she sees how great he is At singing and how good his stage presence is She asks him to join the Missal Tones Not called the Missal Tones yet But you did And he says no

[00:10:48] I'm not going to do that But then she says well I got this on video The performance that you just did I'm going to tell everybody I'm going to show the world How could you are at singing I'm going to show the world

[00:10:58] And he's like don't show the world How good I am at singing It's classic blackmail And it works He comes down to the warehouse And agrees to help them out I'm not going to be in it right now I'm just going to help I'm just going to help

[00:11:10] After some practices Gordon Bombay situations Yes After some practice They crush Song bae if you will Oh That's our acapella group name Holy moly Oh boy Gordon song bae And we change songs to be Mighty Duck themed Yeah No

[00:12:22] And one of the snow bells The new snow bell Is there capturing it all on video And after seeing the video Marcy tells Holly That she can join the snow bells If she wants And this really catches her off guard So she goes to talk to Nick

[00:12:35] About it at the Christmas party And is like You know what I think I'm going to do it And she deletes The karaoke video No need for blackmail now And so she goes to leave And all of a sudden That gummit Nick comes out And he starts singing

[00:12:53] At the Christmas party He does a little karaoke Now the mistletones join him And it is a big hit Nick tells Holly That the mistletones are her group They need her And then they kiss In the closet In the closet And this is all above board I'm sure

[00:13:12] Afterwards He gets a call though No HR calls at all there He is getting a promotion And has to hop on a plane To South Asia tonight He watches her Getting in the car Out the window Just kind of stares at her

[00:13:28] He's got a big decision to make So the next day It is time for the audition And Nick is nowhere to be found He knows shows But they get up there They do their thing They do well Until the snow bells come down The escalator

[00:13:40] And the crowd goes nuts They get distracted By the snow bells coming down There's no way they're going to win now Especially after the snow bells perform They crush it The mistletones leave Sad knowing that they have lost So she gets home She has a heart to heart

[00:13:53] With Carl Winslow Which is literally my dream She gets a call from Nick And he's like I'm sorry I was on a plane I got the promotion And she's like Cool Bye She then goes and she watches Home videos of her mom singing Christmas Baby please come home

[00:14:09] Saw that she would sing every year As a part of the snow bells So it's Christmas Eve And she goes to talk to Thank you It's Christmas Eve Goes to talk to the bells And just wishes them a Merry Christmas

[00:14:21] Even though Marcy is a real bee about it Holly watches the performance And as she is leaving She overhears a crowd cheering in the distance So she goes to check it out And it is the rest of the mistletones On top of a stage

[00:14:33] That is on top of a moving truck Don't ask, don't tell Doesn't matter But Nick is also there And Nick turns around And he starts singing Christmas Baby please come home He says Hey I turned down the promotion Because I don't want that I want you

[00:14:47] And she's like You're going to have to work for it And he's like I'm a workaholic So romantic She gets on stage And they all sing it together They crush it And even the snow bells are like Alright it's pretty darn good And Nick and Holly kiss

[00:15:24] We are talking the mistletones 2012 ABC Family Classic Let's break it down We're going to start with a hot take We're going to share exactly how we felt About this movie I'm going to start with you Ryan Since we don't know your hot take yet

[00:15:38] What did you think of the mistletones? Have you seen it before? Never seen this before It's the first viewing And listen The fact that this all is for a show At the mall is just incredible It's unbelievable If you would ask me what this film was about

[00:15:53] I'm like It's probably like Glee And there's regionals and nationals And that's what they're doing But for Christmas It's not that at all It's like after the Olympics in D2 D3 is like a junior college division 3 Portman losses letter situation

[00:16:09] All of that was fair until the last part You're really down on the Portman losses letter Plot point And I feel like you need to rewatch the film Before you can really talk about it I will, I'll rewatch it I would love to

[00:16:18] Let's put that on the slate For Bramblefest 2025 I love that Yeah, so I will tell you What I liked about this film I had the jerk boss pegged As a totally unimportant Be-character So the twist really worked for me I liked that we didn't drag out Holly contemplating

[00:16:38] Joining the snow bells For 10 to 15 minutes Where we all knew that was where it was going to go I liked that she basically just addressed it The next scene I'll be honest When Erin Shea told me She had the soundtrack to this last week

[00:16:52] I thought the music was going to be a bit better I thought the music was just fine And I thought that The jokes were just fine I think to say this is better in Holiday and Handcuffs Just a quick time out

[00:17:04] Right, as somebody who's watched a lot of these And you have watched a lot of them too What Knowing Christmas movies And their budget for music What more could this movie Have done music-wise I just didn't think the arrangements were very good Oh, okay, okay

[00:17:21] You didn't think the versions were good Got it, okay Yeah, I just When I heard that there was a soundtrack for this I got super pumped I thought that there would be really clever arrangements Got it And so Yeah, ultimately I didn't think this was bad

[00:17:36] I didn't think it was bad I will not watch this 20 times As I've watched Holiday and Handcuffs I've seen Snow and Snow 2 Colen Brain Freeze A bunch I was excited to watch this But Ultimately this was just okay I didn't think it was bad

[00:17:50] I will never watch it again It was just okay For someone on this panel To say it's better than other things Is Ludacris Kringle But it was just okay Ryan, I love you like a Here we go Much older brother Here we go

[00:18:04] I'm like a year and a half older than you dude Here we go You're wrong about this Bingo, bingo This movie Better preach I had never seen it before either So we're going in at exactly the same place This movie rules And Not only are the songs catchy

[00:18:24] The renditions are fantastic The arrangements slap And I would like to listen to this all the time I didn't know what I was getting into I thought maybe we'd get a song here or there This is a musical It's a musical And Dad Gummett, I loved it

[00:18:38] I thought that the chemistry between the two Love interest was really great I really liked them together It was And Dad Gummett I just I didn't see it coming I didn't see this movie coming And it surprised me I just Oh my gosh I loved

[00:18:55] I loved this movie And And I'm sorry Ryan I hope that you still want to pod Parades with me I will I like it more than holiday in hand Yeah, you do Yeah, you do That's so nuts That's because of the normal opinion to have I'm sorry brother

[00:19:09] I know that You and I typically are Lockstep Blind But I think maybe Maybe you had a bad A bad tune amount or something Yeah Before watching this movie Because I Go back with clear eyes, full hearts Can't lose And you can't lose This movie rules

[00:19:28] I love this movie Yeah, the stakes couldn't be lower here There's like a hundred quartets Wanting to sing in a mall on Christmas Eve And This movie is a ton of fun It's a ton of fun And I'll tell you why it's a ton of fun Number one

[00:19:44] Lead performances are great I'm not talking about the dude That guy's clearly not American I don't know where he's from He's not American Not, nobody cares Tori Spelling, Tia Mowry Both wonderful in this movie They're both very good at what they're doing here

[00:19:56] Second of all, Reginald Vel Johnson Reginald Vel Johnson I'll get to the feels in a little bit But let's just say with what he's giving He, what he's giving to do He crushes Number three, the music Yes, they got some public domain bangers in there

[00:20:12] But they also paid for Elvis For Mariah Carey For Baby Please Come Home So many good songs throughout this movie It's absurd There are so many wait-whats And then lastly And I can't believe I have to say this Since it really wasn't mentioned

[00:20:26] Aside from in the hot take is They don't win When do we ever watch these movies And the people who've been training All the movie That's true, Dan Don't win Reginals And they learn a more valuable Christmas lesson In the process

[00:20:42] And that is that Christmas isn't about singing At the mall on Christmas Eve It's a good line It's one we've all had to learn We've all had to learn that lesson Dude, you and I used to fight Used to fight about singing at Christmas Eve at the mall

[00:20:56] Listen, this, it is haunted my dreams Wanting to sing at Christmas And we all had to learn it It's a tough lesson to learn Just movies full of I-rolls and wait-whats I had a blast I had an absolute blast in this movie I like the movie Dan!

[00:21:09] I like the movie Sing a turtle I like the movie So it's fun Man, that's exciting Dude, I don't like It is, it is like Clearly filled with all the stuff That makes these movies I-rolls But you've got these performances With this music in this absurd print

[00:21:28] Like the premise I can't We'll get more into it in the way what This is crazy, guys Malls are closed on Christmas Eve And we're all in the same room Malls are closed on Christmas Eve, guys This is crazy The premise that this matters at all

[00:21:45] It's so, it's the opposite I think last week a lot of people Love that premise because it's crazy And they're just like, it's so funny She kidnaps him And I couldn't get on board with that This is the kind of lunacy That I'm here for

[00:21:57] And I enjoyed it thoroughly And the two leads It means like Tia is unbelievable Tori Spelling is great at being The villain That's at the end of the day And then Reginaldville Johnson Let's get to the feels It's a fun time Ryan Ryan How do you take that?

[00:22:16] How does it feel to have no Christmas spirit, right? I'm just always happy when Dan likes a movie So I'll just, I'll listen I said what I had to say I'm sure the chat's on my side And that's that Yeah, alright Let's get to all the feels

[00:22:30] When we talk about what in this movie Gave us the feels Ryan, any feels for you We're all gonna have the same thing, right? It's Reginaldville Johnson I will tell you though This was a journey for me Because I had no idea he was in the film

[00:22:44] So I audibly cheered when I saw him I was like oh this is great And then by 70 minutes in I'm like what the bleep was that No I didn't forget I was just like did he just sign up For like two hours of work

[00:23:00] Like I thought that first scene With two lines was gonna be it I was legitimately mad It was gonna be my feels and a wait what But then by the end of this you know what He made me care about singing in a mall On Christmas Eve

[00:23:14] I mean I love Reginaldville Johnson My picture with him from 90s con Is a cherished memory of my life I love that guy I love that guy You know what the movie was great Just cause of Reg There you go There he is Reginaldville Johnson's undefeated

[00:23:29] In father kid talks He sure is Has he ever played a bad dad ever I don't think it's possible He did a key and peel sketch That was pretty funny I believe Didn't he Didn't they do a family matters Key and peel sketch I vaguely recall that

[00:23:42] Yeah he's the best He's the best Yeah of course he's one of my Feels I also I gotta be honest I notoriously I've said it on the On the pod before Quite a few times I think I don't like 12 days of Christmas

[00:23:54] I don't by the end of it I'm exhausted And there was an exception to it Which was the straight no chaser version I talked about that I like that version Of course And now I can add And now I can add another version Of 12 Days of Christmas

[00:24:08] I like this version of 12 Days of Christmas It's the it's the mistletones They're practicing They're doing a thing and it's Cutting back and forth Between them and the snow bells A really fun version of the song And I didn't I didn't see it coming

[00:24:22] I didn't see a me loving A 12 Days of Christmas Version coming out of this movie And I couldn't be I couldn't be happier That it happened I thought it was great Yeah, Reginald Ville Johnson talking To his now grown daughter about Memories of her deceased mother

[00:24:38] And how what mattered wasn't the singing It was singing to you I mean come on Like full like movie didn't earn it In the slightest and he still Hits a grand slam He crushes it and I'll add to that The Tia version of Oh Holy Night Is fantastic

[00:24:58] It's just fantastic And I didn't know she had pipes like that Me either oh my God The movie the lip syncing is hysterical In this movie but you know It worked because it's in the middle of When Glee was on TV and I think They're capitalizing on that

[00:25:12] But it is it yeah Uncle Carl talking Talking some sense into a young I mean come on Doesn't get any better And she tears like her tears Are on on full display in this movie Multiple times she's she's she's putting on a show

[00:25:48] I was shocked to find out that That was a mall I thought it was a I don't know like a like a bank Or something it plays as massive inside Let's get to the way what So we're talking about what in this

[00:25:59] Movie is go wait wait wait wait wait What? That I think in this movie which is Part of its charm unless you're Ryan Ryan what'd you think anyway what Yeah like so Holly's rendition Of Oh Holy Night is beautiful it's the

[00:26:12] Best song in the movie for my money But what I was very confused about is Clearly you know they know who Holly is all the characters are familiar With one another but she still has To sing and she still has to audition And granted maybe that's because

[00:26:30] Tory Spelling's a jerk but it just was All very confusing there for the first Ten minutes because they simultaneously Want us to think that they have no Knowledge of who she is but she's Firmly aware of who they are it didn't

[00:26:41] Make any sense nor did it make any Sense as they never tell us why Marcy Is so important to the snow bells Is she overwhelmingly wealthy does She have steak in the ownership of The group name none of that track I think she's a seniority at this point

[00:26:55] Yeah but I mean I'll say this I watched this with a couple of sick Eight year olds and they understand They were floored when Holly does not Make the snow bell like couldn't You know what I think is sweet is that

[00:27:08] You watch this with your kids and you Liked it I don't know if that played Into it I think that's sweet I don't Know if that played into it or not But they were super invested in what Was going on in this movie how

[00:27:20] They handle Tory Spelling cursing at Santa how they handle that one She is not kind of all bad she Is she is not being kind so there That's my boys recently we've watched High School Musical one and two and They are very bothered by Sharpe

[00:27:33] You should not be able to talk like that I was just really from an acting Standboy to be nice with a tisdale Sharpe in High School Musical two is The meanest of she's so mean They loved bed on it though Oh my gosh and who doesn't

[00:27:47] God this High School Musical through Soundtrack is just unreal I just bought it on vinyl You love Zach Efron running through The golf that it's easily the most Absurd scene in those three movies It's crazy awesome that movie is fantastic They told him act like you're auditioning

[00:28:04] For a Power Rangers role and just go for it Just running and jumping on the second Efron as a Power Ranger hold my beer This boss why do I need to hold your beer Are you gonna try to be a Power Ranger

[00:28:15] I need to race no I just need The race to the audition so I need My hands free hold my beer Is you're gonna try it too right No I think it can be different things That first low holy night hold my beer Am I right

[00:28:30] I got my Nick the boss he sucks in the first 15 minutes right but if Holly did Put mistletoe above his office door Without asking or thinking that it was Okay like that's fireable It's like yeah I wrote that down too The fact that one of the ways they

[00:28:51] Want to showcase that he's a jerk Is by him asking the employees Asking him to take down the mistletoe That's what makes him a jerk What a loser Yeah and like not even it would be Bad in like a common area she put it

[00:29:05] Over the boss's door that's not nice Bathrooms are great for acoustics You learn this early on into American Idols run but in this instance why Not just go outside like you know Why do it in the office it didn't Make any sense to me and then

[00:29:20] Boy you just don't have any Christmas You're right Alright easy pal And then last one for me and again The movie was fine I didn't dislike it But at one point Nick literally says Quote the girl who blackmailed her boss

[00:29:34] So they can sing in a mall which is Literally the elevator pitch for this Movie and the fact that they put it In there is just like so scintillating I love that they did that Can I tell you that not only that

[00:29:45] But them not winning and just singing In the street I think what I the charm Of this movie is it knows its premise That's terrible and it's proving it to you Like it's proving it to you within how It plays out and I really enjoyed that a lot

[00:29:58] Yeah and so it was I just love that They did that it is absurd that that's The plot of this movie but it's all cool Brands go for it Her nephews are loud But also My kids have never played a screening Match before ever

[00:30:58] You cannot be walking around the mall At Christmas time without your beard on Which he does you can't do it man There's one there's a couple of rules You don't break as Santa and one of them Is walking around the mall without your beard on

[00:31:12] Show some respect to that name Also speaking of Santa I do think I listen to her spelling she's a villain obviously But after she goes and she curses out Santa In front of children they should be disqualified You can't allow that to go unchecked

[00:31:28] At Christmas time at the mall some things are sacred Santa is sacred at the mall during Christmas time If you a member of a group go out and curse Santa And this is for all the groups out there That are auditioning for the mall Christmas Eve programs

[00:31:43] Out there I know that you're all listening You can't do it you should be You should be disqualified you shouldn't be allowed to do it That's just me I don't know if that's a hot take But that's just me

[00:31:53] Now I mentioned I loved the 12 days of Christmas in this movie I thought it was wonderful I will say The Missile Tones made a huge mess for no reason They are throwing packing peanuts all over really nearly They didn't need to do that no one seeing it

[00:32:08] And it just seemed like a huge mess For no real reason love the choreography though shout out No one knows that Nick their boss is the king of karaoke They do a thing in this movie where they The way that they cover this up is by the employees

[00:32:26] Talking about how bad the bar is But someone in that office is going to stumble into Karaoke at some point right and she does But the fact that he's kept it a secret For long enough to be known as king of karaoke

[00:32:43] That means he's been doing it for a while And he has somehow gotten away with it And that's just crazy to me He needs to go to like a state away at least right Yeah and that's a great transition brain I'm not done yet But you go ahead

[00:32:55] No no no you said I thought you said finally I just go ahead Am I going too long is that what it is No no I thought you said finally No no we thought you were landing the plane You're still going

[00:33:03] He does stare at her outside of his window for way too long It's really a long time Here's a question for you guys And I know this is the premise of the movie Is performance at the mall Performance in the mall Christmas Eve

[00:33:17] But if auditions happen at the mall In front of a crowd Isn't that also a performance Who cares Who cares if you win or not You did it You sang in front of the crowd at the mall That's exactly right The mall stairs seem straight up treacherous

[00:33:36] I can't believe she didn't fall down them And last but not least Shout out to the hardest working band in show biz The band who got all these songs down For all of these groups They're back there It doesn't matter if you're hip hop Pop, smoke away

[00:33:49] It doesn't matter They got you covered Hardest working band in show biz Crushed Works at the mall You might not know it But now you do Dano Back to the boss just briefly This guy is called the king of karaoke And he sings there every Friday night

[00:34:05] But he is begging you to not tell anyone How many people you know like that How many people you know Karaoke is their thing I love karaoke Yeah, you know how we know that Because Brandon tells me She talks about it every week Every week

[00:34:21] He's like, I went to karaoke I don't go to karaoke every week I wish I did But if you know someone that loves karaoke They can't keep that a secret Who is king of karaoke But please don't tell anyone That is wild And then he doubles down there

[00:34:35] And please don't tell anyone with The problem with me is I'm a workaholic You are not, sir You are the king of karaoke Every Friday night You don't miss a week You're not a workaholic You may be a karaoke-aholic But clearly work has not Taken the place

[00:34:54] Of your karaoke That is clearly where your Allegiance is live It's not working It's karaoke That's right No, it's you're right You're right And can I just suggest That if you're practicing singing In a warehouse Don't operate heavy machinery I don't want to ruin A good choreography moment

[00:35:15] No one does They have three of the four Singers on a lifting plate And one guy is operating The lifter This is the thing That you're not supposed to do Unless all of these safety measures Have been met I think we've seen a personal injury Quarter bout

[00:35:33] They're literally using it as a bit For a song and dance number Then they're on the conveyor belt That's like moving along And it's like this is all Really heavy machinery Notice they stop all that Shining against once Nick gets In front of them Yeah, literally

[00:36:04] It's auditioning for the power If we get drunk And then operate the heavy machinery And then practice our singing That's what will really get good The guy who runs this mall And is the mall Santa Is the creepiest human being alive Alright, first of all

[00:36:19] He's a mall Santa that Owns a mall Alright, one, that's too much power That's too much power That's too much power Two, Tia comes in to sign up And as she leans over to sign the page He thinks this is the opportunity To literally so the camera

[00:36:38] For us for laughs as a viewer He tips his whole body To look at her And check her out As she's signing up for this In just a moment He's signing up for this In just an overly Like, just uncomfortable Uncomfortable situation I will say you pointing out

[00:36:58] That is too much power Makes me wonder if that was the selling point For him to buy the mall Was getting to play Santa Like he's been turned down So many times He's like you know what? I'm going over their heads I'm going over the heads

[00:37:12] Of the Santa Claus Association I want to buy a mall They can't stop you Most malls Santas need the money This guy is out here Just free-loving For the love of the game For the love of the game Hold my beer And he is just out here

[00:37:28] Just because he loves being Santa Which is also kind of creepy In its own right And then she's like Do you want to sign up? She's like wow that's a lot of names And then he unfurls this list Like an old parchment paper Like he's really Santa Claus

[00:37:42] Why wouldn't you keep that on a computer screen In 2012 I don't know But the list is I'm going to low-ball it At least 100 names on it In this town with one mall There are at least 100 quartets That are vying That are vying for the opportunity

[00:38:00] To sing on Christmas Eve night At least 100 And then The night of the tryouts Or the competition He's like we have 20 groups What happened to all those other groups? Maybe They didn't make it past Hollywood week I guess is what we're saying They didn't get the golden ticket

[00:38:19] And then lastly the fourth dude In the quartet there before the boss joins The party's not going anywhere And like it's an office party and it's dead And he rolls in With a four foot High karaoke machine With a tape deck And he says with a straight face

[00:38:37] I just keep this in my car This guy rolls in And he says with a straight face This guy rolls around Everywhere he goes With a four foot tall Karaoke machine With a cassette Tape deck in it Just all times just in case

[00:38:57] And boss comes out and he's like I'm just going to trust that this Cassette is playing my song He pushes the cassette in And hits play on the cassette The cassette tape And it plays his song Just that is peak Movie making magic

[00:39:15] That is why we watch these movies Yes I have a four foot karaoke machine With cassette tape deck in my car Of course I'll bring it out I don't know what song you're looking for But if you push that cassette in and hit play

[00:39:27] It will queue you up perfectly That's all I need in these movies Are you saying I shouldn't have ordered A replica for the office just in case Just in case and what songs on the cassette tape Whichever one you want It's the magic tape

[00:39:41] This sounds like something Ryan Papola would own Just to have He's in an eBay bidding battle Right now because he's like I don't want to Show you anything I do have a seven in one vinyl record player That can play cassette CD etc And your songs Queued up
