All Abby really wants is to be a professional jewelry designer, but no one will give her a chance! What she needs is buzz. Very demure, very mindful. She decides she’s going to go to Belgium and visit her grandpa, and maybe even compete in the Valentine’s Day Diamond Contest! She gets there and fixes a woman’s ring on the street right in front of a jewelry store. One of the owners, Alexander, comes out and is like, “What the heck?” She’s like, “Sorry.”
It turns out Alexander’s dad and Abby’s grandpa are rivals—they don’t like each other. Alexander and Abby start hanging out more, and Abby is bummed to hear that the shop is struggling. Alexander is bummed to find out that his dad wants him to come up with the design for the competition. Alexander is great at business, but design? Not so much. So they come up with a plan—Abby will help with the design if Alexander will help with the business side. On one condition: their families must never find out.
He makes her a website, and she’s like, “This is incredible!” They meet up in secret. Everything is going great.
But then they go to a party together, and they’re having a great time until their families show up and are like, “WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?!”
But these two lovebirds can’t stay away from each other. She comes over to help him with a design, and then they kiss.
It’s time for the event, and Alexander’s dad tells him he called in a favor with a judge and that there’s nothing to worry about. This upsets Alexander, and he bounces.
Abby wins, I think! Yay!
Her grandpa gives her this massive diamond that he’d been holding onto in case of an emergency, and she sells it because that’ll give her the money to go out on her own and be a jewelry designer.
She finds Alexander, and he’s like, “You should stay.” And she’s like, “Okay, I already was going to, but thanks for asking,” and they kiss.
[00:00:01] [SPEAKER_03] Hi, I'm Brian and I love Hallmark Winter Travel Movies! I'm Brian and I like Hallmark Winter Travel Movies!
[00:00:11] [SPEAKER_02] I'm Dan and I despise Hallmark Winter Travel Movies and this is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast!
[00:00:18] [SPEAKER_03] Deck The Hallmark, it's this podcast.
[00:00:21] [SPEAKER_02] My friends host this podcast. We hope you like this jolly podcast.
[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_05] Hey everybody, how are you doing?
[00:00:38] [SPEAKER_03] Great. Happy Tuesday. Happy Tuesday.
[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_02] It's kind of hard to believe. You seem like you're...
[00:00:46] [SPEAKER_03] Well I'm just taking it all in. I'm taking it all in. Let it wash over you? No, I'm just letting it, you know, I'm going to soak up the... Sun. That's exactly right, so I'm soaking that up.
[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_02] Got my .45 on.
[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah, I don't.
[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_02] You don't have your .45 on?
[00:01:00] [SPEAKER_03] No, isn't that a gun?
[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_02] No, it's sunscreen.
[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_03] Oh!
[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_02] Really? Oh! I don't know what it's supposed to be. It could be a record, sunscreen, or weapon. I always thought it was SPF.
[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_04] Wow.
[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_02] You think it's a record? Yeah. Like a .45. I thought it was a gun. So we all thought it was different things. Now to be fair, I've never gone to a store and seen SPF .45. In my head, it just made sense that I'm going to soak up the sun. I got my .45 on. Record makes the most sense. Oh! It's record.
[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_03] Well, SPF says sunscreen of SPF .50, .45. Hey, I was right! Again! Screw you guys. Don't know your song lyrics.
[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_02] Don't know your song lyrics?
[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_03] No, I'm happy she's not wearing a Glock.
[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_02] You thought she was going out to have a day sunbathing and she was strapped?
[00:01:40] [SPEAKER_03] Strapped, yeah. I don't know. In this economy... I don't know.
[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_02] This economy song was 20 years old.
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_03] Per capita. Even more so. Even more so? Yeah, per capita. I don't know. Again, I don't know. I don't claim to know what people, how they operate. Guns are foreign to me, so I don't really know how they work or operate, but I know people have them. You do. That's right. She's got her .45 on. She could be a big hunter. We don't know.
[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_02] She's going to soak up the sun hunting.
[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_03] What if she sees an elk?
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_02] An elk. What if you see an elk? What if you're on a beach and you see elk? This is something that more people should ask themselves before they leave their house. What if there's an elk? What if we see an elk? What if elk? And then a .45 to you is... That's right. Just... We know guns so well here.
[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_04] We have them to care of that elk. Yeah. Or all the elk. Rapid fire.
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_02] There are a lot of elk. There were just elk as far as the eye could see. Good luck shooting that elk.
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_03] Should we do a vlog where we go to the shooting range and just give it a shot? No. See what I said? Yeah, I did. Let's do this. We're talking the perfect setting today, everybody. The perfect setting. Can't see a footstool on this show.
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_02] It's a jewelry movie. Which is pretty neat.
[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_03] I'm saying it wrong.
[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_02] What are you... You said it's pretty neat. That was the part that I thought you said it wrong. We've had jewelry movies before.
[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. I'm just... On words that are in a gray area, I think I'll just throw out there, you're saying it wrong. Oh, just jewelry. And we'll see where it goes. I think I said jewelry, right? That sounds right.
[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah.
[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_04] You got it. Jewelry.
[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_01] Jewelry. Jewelry. Jewelry. Jewelry. Yeah. Say brewery. Brewery. Jewelry. Jewelry. More Norman.
[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_03] Come at me. Jewelry. I'm going to go buy some jewelry at the brewery.
[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_02] Brewery. Three syllables. Jewelry. Two syllables.
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_03] I don't think that's true. Jewel... Jewel... Jewel... Jewel...
[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_04] Jewel... Jewel...
[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_03] Jewel...
[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_04] Jewel... Jewelry. Jewel... Jewel... Jewel... Jewel... Jewelry.
[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_02] Jewelry is either two or three syllables. That's right.
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_03] What Google says is jewelry is a little stinker of a word. And we can't figure it out. Don't forget your 45.
[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_02] Merriam-Webster on X had a vote. Well, they did. Jewelry. Jewelry.
[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_04] Jewelry.
[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_02] Three.
[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_04] I counted them. Jewel...
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_02] Jewel... Jewel... Jewel... Jewelry. Jewelry. Jewelry is crazy to me. Jewel-er-ry. Jewel... It is not jewelry. Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-ry.
[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_03] Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-er-ry is not a thing.
[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_05] Jewel-er-ry.
[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_03] What's... Hi, Aaron. Hi, Aaron. Aaron learned about this on the app. What's the app that you do every day? The Duolingo? The Duolingo? Yeah, the seven syllables as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure there's some sort of breakdown of... Jewel... Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-er-ry.
[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_00] Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-er-ry. Jewel-er-ry. This is totally worth record, but Beth Ann found a clip from the songwriter who said it was a weapon, so we're all right. What? Hey.
[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_03] Jewel-ďż˝!
[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_02] Jewel- yard-ry. Jewel-row-ry. Jewel-row. Jewel-row.
[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_03] Jewel-row-row. Jewel-row. Jewel-row-row.
[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_02] Jewel-row. Jewel-row. Jewel-row-row. Jewel-row.
[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_03] Gemini-row.
[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_02] Trot. Maybe Jeff had a different interpretation. Is Jeff in the guns?
[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_03] Is he in the guns? Jeff Trot 45 gun? The line, I got my 45 on so I can rock on from Cheryl Chris on So Good and the Sun refers to a 40 caliber handgun. Man. And then it gets a little bit dark.
[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_04] That's interesting. We're all right. We're all winners here. Jewelry is three. Jewelry. Jewelry. Jewelry. Jewelry. That's right. Do the clap. Jewelry. It's jewelry.
[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_02] I literally am looking. No, I looked it up and both are correct. It's just how you say the word jewel. That's all there is to it. It's how you say jewel. Yes. Because re should be the same regardless. It shouldn't be a re or re. It should be jewelry or jewelry. Jewelry. You are adding a vowel. Jewelry. Jewelry is not right. There's no other. It's jewelry. Jewelry. Jewelry. Jewelry. You mean
[00:06:22] Elry.
[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_02] Yes. Elry. Yeah. That's not what it is. It's jewelry. You can say jewelry or you can say jewelry. Jewelry. You can't say jewelry. Jewelry. Jewelry. Jewelry. It's jewelry.
[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_04] Jewelry. Get on back in here. Jewelry. Jubilee.
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_03] Jubilee. Jubilee. Close door. Here we go. The perfect setting is what we're talking about today. Stay in the family name. The perfect setting. Jewels. The perfect setting. January 25th, 2025 and it went a little something like this. All Abby really wants is to be a professional jewelry designer.
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_02] Now you're all up in my head. You're all up in my head, man. It's going to be full calculus happening in his head every time. Here we go. Here we go. Jewel. Wind up the pitch. Jewel.
[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_03] Synonyms for jewelry. Diamonds. Bling bling. Okay, here we go. Okay, here we go. All Abby really wants is to be a professional bling bling designer. But no one will give her a chance. I said bling bling. No one.
[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_02] Emphasis lead, huh? Yeah. Bling bling bling.
[00:07:31] Bling bling bling.
[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_02] Bling bling bling. Bling bling bling.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_03] Bling bling. All Abby really wants... Bling bling. Here we go. Are you ready? Yeah. All Abby really wants is to be beautiful. All Abby really wants is to be a professional jewelry designer. But no one will give her a chance. Jewelry. What she needs is buzz. Very demure. Very mindful. That's what they say in the movie. Because homework's hip. Yeah. homework's hip. Streets late? Is that what you said? Streets late. She decides, but I bet when they wrote it
[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_03] they were just awful. 100%.
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. That should tell you exactly when this movie was written. Yeah. In the week that people cared about that. That's right.
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_03] She decides that she's going... It's a time capsule. She decides that she's going to go to Belgium to visit her grandpa and maybe even... Such a man twerp. And maybe even compete in the Valentine's Day diamond contest. What? I know. She gets there and fixes a woman's ring on the streets right in front of another jewelry store. This is confusing to the owners of said shop. Alexander comes out and is like, what the heck, man? This is our shop. You can't be fixing stuff
[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_03] out here on the street. And she's like... Sorry. It turns out that Alexander... Sorry. Jewelry. What's that? It turns out that Alexander... Jewelry. Sorry. It turns out that Alexander's dad and Abby's grandpa they're rivals. They don't like each other. Alexander and Abby start hanging out anyway. It's like a real Romeo and Juliet situation. I wonder who's going to die. There.
[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_03] Abby is bummed to hear that the shop, her grandpa's shop is struggling. Alexander is bummed to find out that his dad wants him to design some jewelry for the competition. Alexander is great at business, but design? Not so much. So they come up with a plan. Abby will help with design if Alexander helps with business. It's a deal.
[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_03] On one condition, though, their families must never find out or else they'll die. He makes her a website and she's like, this is incredible. A website? What? They meet up in secret, though, and talk about it. Everything is great. They're having a great time. But then they go to a party together and they're having a good time at the party until their families show up and they're like, what's going on here? But these two lovebirds, they can't stay away.
[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_03] These two lovebirds, here we go. But these two lovebirds, they can't stay away from each other. She comes over to help with the design and they kiss. What? I know. It's time for the event and Alexander's dad tells him not to worry about his crummy design because he called it a favor with a judge. Fix his hand. Nothing to worry about. This really upsets Alexander. My dad doesn't think I could do it on my own laurels. Is that right? Yeah, sure.
[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_03] And he bounces. I'm out of here. Deuces. Very demure. Abby wins, I think. I think? Yeah. She wins the people's choice. The people's choice. She didn't win the whole thing? There's a lot of prizes at this jewelry. The people's choice. And that's what you really want. Yeah. Yeah, that's the big one. Her grandpa gives her this massive diamond stone thing that he's been holding on to in case of emergency and she sells it.
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_02] When you say diamond stone thing, it's a big diamond. I think it's a big diamond, but I'm not sure.
[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_03] It's an uncut gem.
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah.
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_03] Uncut gem. It's an Adam Sandler. That's right. Her grandpa gives her Adam Sandler and he's been holding on to that for a long time. In case of emergency. Heaven is it.
[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_05] Heaven is it.
[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_03] Heaven is it.
[00:11:29] Heaven is it.
[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_03] She sells it because that'll give her enough money to go out on her own.
[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_04] Heaven is it.
[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_03] That'll give her enough money to go out on her own and become a jeweler designer herself.
[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_04] did he say jewelry was?
[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_03] At least ten. Heaven is it. She finds Alexander and he's like, hey, you should stay. And she's like, okay, I already was actually a night kiss. And that, my friends, was The Perfect
[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_05] We did it.
[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_02] All right. You should know how we felt about this movie. Let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll break this movie down
[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_03] with four segments here on Deck of the Hallmark. Welcome back. We're talking about The Perfect Setting, the final Travel January Winterfest movie. Let's get to it. We got four segments to help break this movie down. We're going to start with a hot take. It's where we share our thoughts on this movie. We do not hold back. So I would implore you, Brian, for the love of
[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_03] the purity that is the show. Please do not hold back. What do you think about this one?
[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_04] I liked it. Not so bad. I kind of liked it a little bit. He was a lot of fun. Alex, David, Elsem Norm. We got that. Perfect. She, Abby, Lacey, CJ, Maylee there. She reminded me a bit of, I had like Hillary Duff vibes. And so, She's better than Hillary Duff. To me,
[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_03] she was,
[00:13:08] Oh,
[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_03] Oh, Oh, Boy.
[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_04] I better get out of the way here.
[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_03] Wow.
[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_01] Oh boy.
[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_03] I, I got to come clean on this one and tell you that you were so yesterday, brother. You were so yesterday. So, did you get, you didn't get Hillary Duff?
[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_04] Not even close. Shut your mouth hole.
[00:13:32] Yes, but,
[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_04] yeah, thank you, Erin. No, Erin,
[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_00] no. I think Hillary Duff's vibes were there.
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_02] Vibes.
[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_00] The fact that you think she's better than Hillary Duff.
[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_02] I will say this. I did say that purely for the reaction. I will say, we were watching the DCOMs on DCOM Descendants, and I did get to see Hillary Duff in a little movie we call Cadet Kelly. And she is, she's fantastic in that movie. The only adult Hillary Duff thing I've seen is How I Met Your Father. And Lacey J. Maylee is better than that performance, in my opinion. That's all I've got. That's tough though. That's a tough, I'll just say this, man. And I'm not,
[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_03] it's a tough show.
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_02] But Cadet Kelly, Hillary Duff, she's a revelation. You're lucky,
[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_03] you're lucky that I'm not soaking up the sun, if you know what I mean. I know exactly what you mean.
[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_05] Yeah.
[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_03] But, was that a death threat? Well,
[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_04] it depends what, what 45. Are you just going to make sure I don't get skin cancer? I don't know, I don't have any records. Are you allergic to sunscreen? No. You like records? That's right. But in my mind, I was watching this as, okay, this is a DCOM, adult DCOM. So, I had a pretty good time. I wasn't that bored. You're the worst. I'm with the old guys in this though. They got to get to work. Like, they spent too much time goofing around, and they're not taking it seriously enough.
[00:14:44] [SPEAKER_02] How seriously are they supposed to take it?
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_04] Very. If you want to win? Are you kidding me?
[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_02] Like, it's their parents, they don't care nearly as much as their parents or grandparents care.
[00:14:52] [SPEAKER_04] But this is a great, she wants to be a jewelry designer, and this is a huge opportunity. Like, get your head in the game. Like, let's get to work. Get your head in the game. Good DCOM references. Love that.
[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_03] man. Unbelievable.
[00:15:02] [SPEAKER_04] So, and obviously more fabrication would have been great for me. So, yeah, I had a decent time with this one.
[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_03] Okay. Yeah, I don't, listen, I don't care about jewelry in the slightest. And, so this is going to be an uphill battle. Hilary Duff, maybe would have saved the movie, because Hilary Duff is, as Langley reminded us in the chat, is a one girl revolution. And I just think that this movie, this movie, there's nothing, there's nothing offensive about this movie. I don't think that this movie is necessarily bad.
[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_03] It's just that I don't care. And so that's where I'm at. That's where I'm at. I'm in a little bit of a low spot. But I, I think that the Love U, area movies, we got a preview show coming out later this week.
[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_02] We sure do. Thank God.
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_03] I think the Love U, area movies are going to turn the corner because I don't, the travel movies, I don't, I don't mess with those things. I don't mess with the travels. You can make a great travel movie. I don't mess with them typically. These are not those. I can probably, like if I, if I saw a list of all the travel movies, like Savoring Paris comes to mind. And then aside from that, I don't know many that have been like, uh, outside of Christmas. Christmas ones.
[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_02] I was about to say,
[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_03] Finish Line, Heidelberg Holiday. That's right. Christmas ones, they get the Christmas bump. The rest of the travels, I'm just kind of like, okay, so you went somewhere and you did a thing.
[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_02] Pearl and Paradise. Yeah.
[00:16:22] [SPEAKER_03] Fiji. That's good. Chris Palaha. That's good. Jill Wagner. Yeah. I know it. All right. Just saying. Like, I was, I, my thing wasn't that I don't ever like them. I said, I don't think that there's many. Okay. If I had a list of all of them. Yeah. That we've covered. My point is,
[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_02] is you can make a good one. If you decide to just go there and film a movie cheaply, it's going to be worse than a movie filmed here. Sure. Would you agree with that? Sure. Yeah.
[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. So I just like, I don't really, I didn't really care about the subject matter. And then the, uh, I, I, I guess I, I'm, I'm happy for them at the end here. They, there were some saucy scenes, like some scenes where they were really like locked in with the chemistry. And I really enjoyed those scenes. But outside of that, it was just like, whatever.
[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_02] Hmm. Uh, if this, I've not done the research, but off of my memory, this caps, the worst January in the history of deck, the Hallmark from a point, a standpoint of movies that homework has released for us to watch in January, because every other year has at least had one that wasn't just like terrible. Uh, the best January movie I think is the, the Rhiannon fish movie with the penguins. That is such a low bar. Uh,
[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_02] this isn't as bad in my opinion as Argentine heart or the Ireland one. Um, but it's not good. And to brand's point, it's just kind of boring. I just didn't ever, I don't have many weight. What's I just didn't care about the jewelry business. I don't care about these two old European dudes who both want to win this thing. Uh, the, the leads, I think Lacey J. Maylee is really charming. I think she, uh, I'd love to see her do something else. The dude is fine.
[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_02] He just looks like he's late to fight Rocky. Like, I don't like, he doesn't look like he's like, I don't like cool. I don't like that. That's actually when you say like, this is the best movie. I don't, I don't like he's not, he was fine in Ted Lasso. He's fine in Norwegian holiday. I, I don't know, man. It's not CJL reference. I didn't think that. I didn't think,
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_04] I don't know, man.
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_02] Their chemistry was like amazing. I just thought this movie was just kind of there. Um, so not good. Worst January Hallmark's ever given us in since tech, the Hallmark started covering movies in January, which wasn't until 2020 to be fair.
[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_03] So, uh, let's get to, uh, let's get to all the fields. We're talking about what gave us feels, right?
[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. The, I think Alex in this, and this was something brand I thought you would like about it. Alex was like blatantly liking her. Like he was like letting her know, I'm into you. Cool. So I thought that was pretty cool. Like they didn't keep that back and hide it. And he was making an effort to be like, Hey, I like you. Let's do this thing. And the dance was pretty nice.
[00:19:00] [SPEAKER_03] The dance was nice. Yeah. I mean, I thought the scene where they, uh, uh, so I didn't really like when they went to the market and they looked at the thing through the thing and like looked in the flower and I felt like I was like on a trip or something. I didn't really love that. but when they're like, when he goes to look at her earring and then they kind of like lock eyes when they're real close like that. That was when I was like, okay, the chemistry is there. These two, uh, are working well together. And so I liked those scenes to your point, Brian, those scenes where they were kind of,
[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_03] really, really, uh, up in the ante when it comes to the chemistry. I like Dana. Yeah. I don't have anything.
[00:19:35] Okay.
[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_03] Let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll get you the way one, the weather. All Mark. You're on. Hey,
[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_02] you. Hey, we're back.
[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_04] Busted. How are you? What are you doing?
[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_03] I'm just doing anything.
[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_02] Anything.
[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_03] I just want people to feel like we're really just like, yeah. That's right. Yeah, that's exactly right. Um, of course, of course you can, you could have watched this movie on Philo. Hopefully you did. We're bringing it down. It's time for the way. What is where we talk about what in this movie? What is going? What I'll start with you, Brian?
[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. One of the things was just the whole competition. The, the fact that it's a secret design drawing, then there's a dance and then there's a jewelry display with a judge panel. And like, it just feels right for corruption from the start. Yeah. And then I started thinking like, is there, I don't think I have faith in any competition ever. Like I feel like every competition.
[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_02] I don't think there's any work we did to make sure that the deck was above board.
[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_04] That was above board. Okay. Can not be obviously what's an award. It's not like people coming in and trying to win. Judging. Right. I got you. That's a voting thing.
[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_02] I think that anything that the, the winners decided by judging. Yeah. I, I always have a bit of an issue. Yeah. So like, even like sports, like, yeah, you know, the winter Olympics, you watch these things where the judges get to decide. And then you hear years later that the Russian judge gave the blah, blah. And you're like, totally. These people spent four years getting ready to figure skate in the Olympics. And then the judge was like, I don't like them. Yep. And I,
[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_02] I don't like, I'm with you. I'm with you. 100% on things that are judged. Like, yeah. So I'm just like,
[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_04] I don't believe anything can be fairly. You said,
[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_02] I don't believe any competition is fair. And that was where I was, right. Hard time. We worked through, we got there. We got there. We figured it out. But even like with refs, refs could be bought. 100%. Harder though. And have been. Harder though. Harder though. When the points are scored and not the judges scoring the points. Harder to fix a basketball game when you can't make the ball go in the basket.
[00:21:48] [SPEAKER_04] Definitely possible. Possible. And been done, right?
[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_02] But when it's all judges, it's very plausible. It's easy. You just go in the back room.
[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_03] You might have something here with all competition.
[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_04] It might be every single one. Um, and I don't know why, what they were, when they were walking next to the river, talking about French fries and Mayo, I missed everything after that because all I heard was the sound effect of just a high heel on plywood. It was a lot. As the sound effect for them walking. There was a lot. Yes. It was very distracting. Yes. Like so out of place and weird. And there was another weird audio thing when, uh, she was trying to sell her boss, the diamond, the uncut gem,
[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_04] you're playing a recorder there. That's not what he does. You just got to, hey, baby, a lot of it's the inhaling. Yeah. Cross buns. So she, she said something to her boss about like, I want you to buy this jewel. And the boss said something. And there was a weird thing where there were like two voices at the same time. Did you notice this? No, it was like a weird, maybe it was, maybe it was your TV. Maybe it was like, I don't know. Maybe my kids were pranking me and they just, but it was a weird sound thing where like, I couldn't catch what was being said there.
[00:22:56] [SPEAKER_04] So I'm glad that was just me and not everybody. Um, and then just my last one was her boss was able to book a last minute trip to Antwerp during the jewelry thing. God, are you with good luck? Dozens of people on the street. Are you kidding me? I can't believe you should have placed even stay.
[00:23:12] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. Yeah. That was so true. Um, I got a kick out, you know, I, you're immediately struck by how tall this fellow is. Yeah. Um, yeah. And so we, Dan and I went down a bit of a rabbit rabbit trail.
[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_02] If you want to go to Antwerp tomorrow from GSP, how much? Uh, 749. Can't go over 749. 1480. 1480. You want to take a guess, Aaron? If you want to go to Antwerp tomorrow from GSP. Round trip. One way. Wednesday. Sorry. Wednesday round trip. On a Wednesday.
[00:23:42] [SPEAKER_00] 284.
[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_02] 284. $1,783. Your boy. With two stops. Your boy. Um,
[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_00] I was going for direct. Sorry.
[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_02] Oh, there's all the, all the direct GSP to Antwerp are all sold out. I'm sorry. On Wednesdays? Forget it. I know. It's tough. On a Wednesday.
[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_03] Everyone knows you don't do that. Yeah. You don't go direct to Antwerp. That's a business expense anyways. You wouldn't dare. Um, when are we going to start, uh, record these episodes on location of where the movies take place? man. When are we going to start doing that?
[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_02] If we have an all access tier, that's like 10 grand a month,
[00:24:16] [SPEAKER_03] 10 grand a month. That's awesome.
[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_02] I think 10 grand a month. And we would record all of them on, if they were a movie that claims to be overseas, we have 10 grand a month subscription.
[00:24:25] [SPEAKER_04] We would find a sponsor for that one.
[00:24:27] [SPEAKER_02] For what? Let's do one time. Like just try one. Let's just try one time. We got to know way ahead. And usually it's like, we filmed this Antwerp movie yesterday.
[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_04] Belgium. We'll go to Belgium. We pick a location. There'll be a movie there.
[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_03] No one's going to know. No one will know. Um, so he's very tall. He's, he's six, he's six, four, Dan. Is that what? He's six, four. He's six, four. Google says she's five, two. Yeah. And so they don't. Yeah. Is that feet and inches? She is, uh, like obviously shorter than him, but after looking that up,
[00:24:57] [SPEAKER_02] they have bridged the gap.
[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_03] They've helped. And then now the whole rest, and this is on me. This is why, you know, Google and watch movies, the whole rest of the movie, everyone she's standing next to, including her grandpa. I am judging by she's five, two. And so now, now grandpa's five, three tops. And so I'm thinking that this is, this is why you don't do it. But yeah, I'm, that was interesting to me. The, how they, how they managed, uh, and dealt with the height difference.
[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_02] So I'm six, five, and my wife is five, six. So a smaller difference in the height opposite. Then, then six, four and five, two. Two, but she looked about as tall to him as my wife looks to me. Like they clearly, she was in four to five inch heels, all movie or some sort of platform where they didn't show her. Like they did. I said,
[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_03] they probably built a whole, a whole house, whole set. Peter Jackson,
[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_02] they did the Lord of the Rings thing. They did a whole,
[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_03] a whole thing for someone watched that.
[00:25:54] [SPEAKER_02] And then you're right. She's walking next to like grandpa and she's like almost the same height. Then you're like, she's clearly, they've done something to she, or she's not really five to that. That would be another possibility. Yeah.
[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_03] director Jonathan, Give us a call.
[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_04] He read it on the internet. So probably true. It's gotta be.
[00:26:10] [SPEAKER_03] Um, I want to give a shout out to, uh, the, my, to my favorite extra, to my favorite extra in this movie. Oh, so there's a wellness and brand caught it.
[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_02] And it's great.
[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_03] Oh,
[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_02] you gotta go back and watch it.
[00:26:22] [SPEAKER_03] They are walking through, uh, some sort of gathering of people and they, uh, go into one of the rooms and there is a guy standing there kind of like holding a pose, waiting for the camera to waiting for them to walk by so that he will then go into something. So he's like this. And then they walk past him and he goes, but no one is there talking to himself. And so it's like, he's frozen. Yeah. Then he's talking to nobody. Yeah.
[00:26:50] [SPEAKER_03] And then turns out that he's a judge. Yeah. Later on in the movie, they picked him out and said, you're a judge and shout it to that extra. What a journey. Big day. What a journey for that extra. You did it. You stole my heart. And I love it. Also, this movie ends in a very weird way where it's kiss up into the sky and then weird dangly hearts enter the screen. And it looked like they were being held up by someone off screen with like strings.
[00:27:17] [SPEAKER_02] For effect.
[00:27:17] [SPEAKER_03] And I don't really know what that was. It was that extra. Yeah. It was the extra.
[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_02] It was like whimsical. I'll do it. You don't get it.
[00:27:22] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. We'll do, we'll do a dangle hearts at the end. It's going to be, it's going to be wild. Dan. Dongle hearts.
[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_02] Um, yeah. I, I gathered that both of these longtime historical jewelers were in this competition because they needed the money desperately. Am I wrong on that?
[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_04] Just tradition. Tradish.
[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_02] One of them needed it to keep the doors open. Right? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. And then the other one is just like, we win every year and we can't.
[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_03] That's right. Her grandpa needs it.
[00:27:52] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah.
[00:27:52] [SPEAKER_03] Needs this dub. Needs this win.
[00:27:54] [SPEAKER_02] Close the business.
[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_03] Oh,
[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_04] come on.
[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_02] Like if you are banking on this money to keep you open, like,
[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_04] well, to pay the back mortgage, I think to pay the back to get them right. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_02] Which means they'll just be back in debt within six months. Probably. Of course. Also,
[00:28:11] [SPEAKER_04] that's a good one too. He's had this business for a long time. How does he still have such a big mortgage?
[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_02] That's my next one, which is like, I, the finances of this guy, like I, I just, what is, it doesn't seem like a competition. It seems like the guy that is, Rocky villains, dad, he has a very, a thriving business and just wins it out of spite. Just like a classic venture capital. It's just like a, I'm going to win it. So they don't have anything.
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_05] Yeah.
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_02] And this guy is like, if we don't win the grand prize, I'm going to shut my doors to my 30 or 40 year lease that I'm behind on paying. I don't, none of that tracked. And they, they didn't get me to care. Um, most of the people in this movie appear to be from the Belgium area and are doing a great job with accents. The guy that is in charge of the trust that calls her at the beginning. I don't know what he's doing.
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_02] I don't know what accent he's got going on or where he got it from, but you need to go listen again. It's crazy. And then one more, when they first decide to meet together, he texts her and says, meet me at the bridge at dusk. And she says, thumbs up. And then she says, actually, can we make it seven? And so we're dealing in two different things here. Like, does everyone just know when dusk is? When he says dusk, does she look up when the sun goes down?
[00:29:35] [SPEAKER_02] And she's like, all right, I need to, I need to be there at meet me at dusk. Five fifty. Yeah. Okay. Well, here's the thing is, is if you don't get time involved, then I'm fine with that. She's at her office. She looks out the window, the sun's going down. She's like, all right, I better head on out there. That seems like a very European thing to do, but then she counters with, how about instead of dusk, seven, which means that she calculated when dusk was, realized she wasn't going to make it, and then said seven.
[00:30:02] [SPEAKER_02] And as a counter meeting time, instead of night, instead of nighttime, evening, how about nighttime? She, we, we went the legal tender of, of meeting time structure went from where is sun to what is clock. And that was weird to me. She was dusk. Yeah. So what do you say? Sunset in my right now? I, if you told me to meet at dusk, I'd say five 45.
[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_03] All right.
[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_02] That's because you can still see outside, but the sun setting, that's dusk.
[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah.
[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_02] Right. Cause if it's dark, the dusk is no more. It's you, you pass dusk. Yeah. Post dusk. That's what you said.
[00:30:43] [SPEAKER_03] Can we meet post? Can we meet post dusk? But that could be anytime within the next, like just after dusk.
[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_04] That's the thing.
[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_03] That's true. But seven o'clock. I just, I don't know. I'll meet you just post. Just post dusk. Post haste dusk. Right after dusk. Yes. That's right. Right after dusk is goodbye. Or does dusk become what we are? Dusk in the wind. How long is dusk? Dusk in the wind. How long does dusk last for? Until it's night. Okay. So, but when does dusk start? When the sun starts to go down. Yeah. So right when it starts setting.
[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_02] To where you can't see all of it. Cause it's starting to set at noon. Really. Right? In a sense. Yeah. Now we're in the real sticky wicket.
[00:31:20] [SPEAKER_03] You show up at 12 and you're like, where you at? I'm here. That's why February. Yeah. That's top dusk is a tricky. Tricky. Dusk. Jewelry. That was better. It's time for what the hallmarks were. What could have been. Maybe if it gets a clarity question. We still have. What are we still wondering about after seeing this movie? That's what we're going to talk about right now. Brian. Yeah.
[00:31:38] [SPEAKER_04] The Alex's dad. He's owed a favor by a judge. That's right. What up with that?
[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. That was mine. Really? That was my same one, which is what did you do?
[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_04] Exactly. What's going on there? What happened? Why is he all your favor? I assume it's jewelry. Jewelry related. Yeah. But I'd like to know. It could be anything.
[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_02] But he said it like, it's a big enough favor to throw a competition. Throw a whole competition. Which is worth a massive cash prize.
[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. And this is like a long running tradition. Like a competition.
[00:32:07] [SPEAKER_02] So it's a big deal. This is a big deal. They've won it so many years in a row. And this year he just is like, you know what? I'm calling in my favor. He must have done, he must have given away or smuggled some diamonds. Something major.
[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_03] Do you think that store is a, is a, is laundering money? I think,
[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_04] I don't think it was above board. I mean, knowing that dude running it. And there are other judges. He has to, what if not every judge is on board with it? Like how do you ensure all the, this is a big, big thing. But I mean,
[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_02] that's a big favor to call in. Like, what are you going to do next year? I mean, like you're going to lose it eventually.
[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_03] It's like calling, calling in the Oscars. I know a judge. I know it. Yeah. But I mean, there's a lot of Oscar voters. Yeah. Oh, I know the guy who does the cards. You know, Oscar. I know, I know the moonlight guy. I know who that did the moonlight. La La Land. I know La La Land. So I can, I can, I can, are we doing an Oscar episode? Did we decide? We were supposed to. Yeah. When is that? That's a great question.
[00:32:59] Yeah. We got time.
[00:33:00] [SPEAKER_03] We got time. What's going to be this year's Oppenheimer? Is what I mean. You got Amelia Perez. Amelia Perez.
[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_02] Anora.
[00:33:08] [SPEAKER_03] Anora. Anora.
[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_02] You got a complete unknown. A complete unknown. You got wicked.
[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_03] Wicked.
[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_02] Wicked.
[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_03] Wicked.
[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_02] Dune part two.
[00:33:17] [SPEAKER_03] Dune part two. That's it.
[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_02] We found it.
[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_03] All right, great. We workshopped it. You gotta workshop it.
[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_02] It's the big budget one. That's the one.
[00:33:25] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. Brutalist. Yeah. The Brutalist. So he makes a website and she's like, I've been wanting my grandpa to have a website for years and he's never wanted it. What if you bring him a website? We never get to see her bring- He's never wanted the website. So like, hey, I got this for you. Take a look at this. What if he, like, I want the scene where he goes nuts. He slams the laptop and he goes,
[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_03] I told you I didn't want this. And he went over my head. He went over. That scene doesn't, we don't know how he responded to website. Um, but for some reason he was very against website. Maybe, maybe he's laundering money, but worse. And he feels like if there's website, things are going to, it's going to muddy the waters a little bit. I don't know what the deal is with grandpa on this website, but he wasn't happy about it. And I just wish we could have seen his reaction to finally getting website.
[00:34:20] [SPEAKER_02] I grew up in the era of some particularly religious people being scared of the internet in their house. Dot com. Yeah. Uh, and those were fun people. And this strikes me like, I don't want a website for my business is the equivalent of the early nineties. I knew a human being who's probably now in their seventies who I remember them saying, I may as well just hook a sewer line straight up to my house.
[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_03] Wow. I love that.
[00:34:46] [SPEAKER_02] The, the, the internet being in their home. They were ahead of their time.
[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_03] Did they ever, did they ever link up? Yes.
[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_02] They got, they had to get the house. Eventually you have to, I mean, somehow that's not, I mean, it depends.
[00:34:59] [SPEAKER_03] Like how, how hard are you going to go on this? That's right. If it's, if though, if you live off the grid, that's exactly right. If you, well, if you truly believe in that, it is a sewer line, then there is no, I would not ever in any circumstance put a sewer line into my house.
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_02] That's right. You wouldn't. So maybe the illustration is a poor one that they were using. Maybe it is. Maybe it is. Dan? That was, I had Brian's. Mine was the favor.
[00:35:20] Ah.
[00:35:21] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah.
[00:35:22] [SPEAKER_03] Keep up. It's time for the double dagger of the week. Uh, it's where we dive deep into the life of a double decker that has signed up for regular 10 plus at the double decker tier or higher. Can you, uh, Dan, who do we have today? We have a Keetha Crozier.
[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, Keetha Crozier. Keetha. Yeah. Keetha, uh, Keetha jumping into a new venture. Yeah. Yeah. They are. Keetha, uh, now, uh, one of the leading fundraisers for a new venture called M apostrophe Holmes. My Holmes. Okay. Okay. You could. Yeah. That way. Uh, so. How do they say it? Well, they say, uh, I've only seen it written because I just read. Oh, so.
[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_04] The sewer line of the internet. Yeah. Right in your house. So I don't know exactly how, but that is a way to say it. You can say it like. Okay. Like what's another, what is another possible? M apostrophe Holmes. So you would just say it. You could just say it.
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_02] Say it like, hey, yeah, I work for M apostrophe Holmes. Yeah. Who would do that?
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_04] Uh, that's a great question too. I don't know. Maybe you don't.
[00:36:31] [SPEAKER_03] So what is special about the Holmes and the Postre?
[00:36:34] [SPEAKER_04] So what they're doing is investing in properties, different types of properties. Houses. Houses, uh, commercial ventures. Apartments. Absolutely. And so they just wrapped up their third property. Fantastic. And it's like a throwback to a type of bar. That's like a, kind of like a dingy place. Like a pub. Sort of like a pub. Like a, like when you go to like, where you're looking at where the locals hang up. A dive bar is the first one. Yeah. Yeah. That's for M apostrophe Holmes. So that's a really good one.
[00:37:03] [SPEAKER_04] They're really excited about. Another one. Yeah. They did. There was, uh, it was a house that's sort of like you go there and like, you just change and you go. It's also known as like a flop house. A flip? Oh. No, a flop house is like where you would go and just use it for a little time to like get freshened up and then you head out. It's like a... Is that what a flop house is? Yeah. Okay. It can be. Got it. Uh, but flipping is sure part of the business plan. Yeah. Yeah. For M apostrophe Holmes. Yeah.
[00:37:30] [SPEAKER_02] Do you think that the, someone's has the fix in for the Kansas city chiefs? Is that what we're getting?
[00:37:36] [SPEAKER_04] Is it a competition?
[00:37:38] [SPEAKER_02] What? Is there a competition involved? With the, with the NFL? Yes, there is.
[00:37:42] [SPEAKER_04] So I don't know. Uh, you know where I stand. What does this have to do with the NFL? Nothing. He was just an innocent question. Mahomes. Okay. So Mahomes does the dive bar. The flop house. Yeah. The flop house. What else do they do? The last one. Is it a fix? Is it a fixer upper? No, no. This is a fancy. This is a fancy place where you would go. It's only a wine, if you will, at this place. So this establishment. So it's like just a wine bar. It's a winery. That's all. No, it's just whining.
[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_03] It's a whining.
[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah.
[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_03] That's all we're doing. Whining. No dining. No dining. Just all whining. Just all wine all the time.
[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_02] Mahomes does wine, flops, and dives.
[00:38:18] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah.
[00:38:18] [SPEAKER_02] And you, and I want to say this. It seems like Keita is upset about a certain football team.
[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_04] Keita sounds pretty psyched about this new opportunity, is what I'm gathering.
[00:38:28] [SPEAKER_02] As someone that's not a Chiefs fan, I can tell you that.
[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_04] Why do you keep bringing up the Chiefs? Like, what's your obsession here?
[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_02] I mean, if you can't see it, I don't want to spell it out for you. But it seems as though Keita's specific, Mahomes, specifically, they are complaining. They're complaining about Mahomes. But they're part of them, Patrick.
[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_04] They're part of Mahomes. Yes. So I don't know why they complain about it. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. I'm wishing the best of luck, obviously.
[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_02] I thought for sure there was going to be a fixer-upper in there. Like, they got one that's fixed.
[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah.
[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_02] That's fixed. Fixer-upper.
[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_04] Sounds like something they should jump on.
[00:39:09] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. Yeah.
[00:39:09] [SPEAKER_04] That's probably... For the next finish. Probably in a couple weeks from now. Yeah. Yeah. For the big one that they're going to do. Yeah. Oh, it's a big one.
[00:39:15] [SPEAKER_02] Are they pretty swift with their turnarounds? Pretty swift? Do they get... They get... They swift with how they acquire... If you want to put them in a box...
[00:39:22] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah.
