Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTH
The episode kicks off with Alice asking Colton what he was doing. He’s like, “I wasn’t thinking straight. I ran off after the funeral.” She’s like, “And you jumped in a pond?” He’s like, “Who can say?” They go to check in on Vic, and he yells at Colton, telling him it should’ve been him who died.
Elliot and Vic get into an argument. Vic says he refuses to let that ring go to a Landry, claiming, “The Landrys have always used us.” Elliot tells him, “It’s my ring now, and it’s my house now. Get lost.”
Back in ’74, Alice goes with Colton to Coyle’s to join a group of folks remembering Rick. They see the hearse drive by, and Alice locks eyes with Vic.
Kat and Elliot are making out in the shack when they discover some jazz music playing and a bottle of Pinot. Kat jokes, “She’s a cab girl? What gives?!”
That night at dinner, Del tells them all about Sam. Kat responds, “Well, while we’re sharing big news, I’m moving in with Elliot.” Del is shocked and says, “You’re doing what? You need to be here for your daughter.” They begin to argue, and everyone scurries off.
Kat and Alice figure out that there’s another book they should pour wine on. It reveals the rest of the message—a note from Colton to Evalyn that makes it sound like they were both time travelers.
At the market, Alice talks to cute boy Noah. She helps him out in the food truck, and they flirt.
Kat goes to the pond to try traveling back to ’74 herself. When she gets out of the pond, she is greeted by a scary old woman. Apparently, it’s Colton’s grandma, Fern, and she’s acting wild.
Jacob and his childhood friend Danny finally catch up. Danny admits he’s always blamed himself. Jacob reassures him, saying he didn’t push him into the water and that nothing is his fault.
Alice shows Del the books, and Del says she’s not surprised to see this but insists that if Colton had traveled through the pond, he would have told her.
Fern tells Kat, “It’s nice to see someone using the pond again.” When Kat asks if Colton used it, Fern cryptically responds, “If you want the right answers, you need to ask the right questions.”
As Kat heads back to the pond, she sees Colton talking to Evalyn and overhears them discussing the pond. He’s about to tell her something big when they hear a noise.
Kat returns to the present, where Del warns her to leave the past alone. Kat scoffs, “As if.”
She then gets a call and has to rescue Jacob, who is too drunk to get home.
Meanwhile, Elliot discovers that his dad did indeed steal the ring back, even though he had just promised Elliot he wouldn’t.
Alice and cute boy Noah share a kiss.
Finally, Kat and Alice go to the archives to search for answers. They discover a flyer from 1965 about voting to fill in the Landry pond.

[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_00] Hi, I'm Brian and I love The Way Home. Hi, I'm Ryan. I like frozen pizza. Oh, I'm Dan and frozen pizza is worse than The Way Home. And this is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast. Deck The Hallmark, it's his podcast. What are you gonna do with that? Nothing. Nothing you can do with that. It's pitch perfect. We hope you like this jolly podcast. Oh boy. Howdy. Let's get into it right away.
[00:00:35] [SPEAKER_02] So did you have a week of trying different frozen pizzas? Listen, I never said that I don't like rising crust frozen pizza. That's never what I said, you know? Yeah. Uh, brand, what's the one you like? What would you call it? Oh, my. For Shetta. Yeah. Uh, I just think that the red barren tombstone slander was unwarranted. No, it wasn't unwarranted. It was exactly what it should have been. And I think we all know it. That pizza is for children. It's for children and it's cheap. And that's why you give it to them. It's barely
[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_00] pizza. Um, another Thursday is here. How's your weekend, Ryan? Uh, it was the 23rd. So yeah, we, uh, we had a, we had a party that we went to. I'm bummed. I missed the deckies. You did watch the simulcastle. What was your favorite part? What was the best bit? Uh, when brand took his shirt off and started doing the Macarena. I thought that was incredible. Yeah. The Macarena. I didn't see it coming. We were still alive for that. Huh? You know, it was a 90, 90s Christmas got a mention.
[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_01] And brand like said, hit it. And then they hit it in the back right there. And he went, he went just ham. Yeah. You can watch it on a loop if you, uh, yeah. I mean, it's there. It's on film forever. Well, it's on film forever. Let's say, unless say, unless we lose it. Unless we record it over, we record over the VHS. There's nothing we can do. There's nothing we can do. We record over the VHS. Uh, we're talking way home. Uh, people, people, people love our thoughts on it. No one ever disagrees. No one ever disagrees. No one takes it. Pretty unanimous that are, that we're, yeah, that we like it.
[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_00] No one takes it personally. I think they all think we're above board and that we are giving it a fair shake. I think, I think that's for sure. You could say that without question. That's right. We definitely don't get emails regularly about people who want to correct us and our reviews for this. No. This review slash comedy podcast. That's right. Yeah. Um, Colton is horse. That's all I'm saying. Colton the coach. That's right. Colton the source. Cool. Let's, uh, let's do this. Let's dive into it. It's, uh, it's, uh, it's, uh, I'm diving in.
[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_01] Oh man, we need that. I need to get it back. It just happens sometimes. I'm sorry. That's my bad. Season three, episode three, live and let die. Uh, which, uh, I don't know if you know this, Aaron Shay used to figure skate to that song. And that's a fun fact. I saw it. Live and let die. They're not talking. They're talking about the bond movie. Live and let die. Right. I ain't talking about the song. The bond movie came out. Okay. I got you. All right. We're on the same. They're talking about the movie. I didn't even think about the song. Why do they have to?
[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_01] To be talking about the movie. I didn't think about the song being the same name. It could be. They've done a lot. I think they've been mainly songs. Well, last one was a movie. That's why I thought. But that could have been a song. The way we were. From the movie. Maybe. Let's find it out. They've all been songs until the way we were. Right. Unless the way we were was a song. That makes me think it's probably a song as well. Probably. Uh, let's get to it. January 17th, 2025 is when it premiered and went a little something like this. The episode kicks off with, uh, Alice. It is a song by Barbra Streisand. From the movie? Uh, probably, yeah.
[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_01] The episode kicks off with Alice asking Colton, what are you doing in the water, bud? Uh, and he's like, uh, I wasn't thinking straight. You know, I ran off after the funeral and she's like, and he had jumped in the pond. And he's like, who can say? I mean, really? Who hasn't in a time of crisis? You got to. Jumped in pond. Uh, they then go and they check on, uh, Vic. He yells at Colton. So, right back where we started with old Vicster over there. Uh, telling
[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_01] him, should have been him that died. Oh, wolf. Uh, Elliot and, uh, Vic and present to get into a big argument. Vic says that, uh, he refuses to let the engagement ring go to a Landry claiming the Landry's have always used us. Elliot says, it's my ring now. You gave it to me. It's my house now. I paid you for it. Get out of here. All right. Leave it on the doorstep. That's right.
[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_01] Back in 74. Alice goes with Colton to coils to join a group of folks remembering the old Rickster. Uh, they sing some songs and they see the hearse drive by and Alice locks eyes with Vic. Uh, cat and Elliot are making out in the clubhouse as we call it. Uh, when they discover some jazz music playing and a bottle of Pinot.
[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01] Uh, and Elliot goes, you're a cab girl. Couldn't be you. Uh, that night at dinner, Dell tells the rest of the family what Jacob already knows that she has been seeing Sam cat responds. Well, in the clubhouse. Uh, well, we also have some big news. I'm, I'm going to be moving in with Elliot. Dell is shocked by this and gets upset. And it's like, you do what? You need to be here for your daughter. She's leaving in September.
[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_01] And cats. Like I'm going to be next door. They begin to argue and everyone scurries off. Cat and Alice figure out that there's another book that they should pour wine on. Uh, it reveals the rest of the message part deuce of the message. It is a note from what appears to be Colton to Evelyn that makes it sound at the very least like both of them are time travelers.
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_01] Uh, at the markets, Alice talks to cute boy Noah from last season. I don't know. Yeah. But, uh, she's a big part of it. Yeah. She helps. I didn't have to look him up and I'm also 100% positive. That's his name. Runs a food truck. One who bearing. That's right. She, the dude, she helps him out with the food truck. They flirt. It's a whole thing.
[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01] And Cat goes to the pond to tie, to, to, to try. Goodness. You got it. To try traveling back to 74 herself again. Uh, when she gets out of the pond, she is greeted by a scary old grandma from M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening. Why you eyeing my lemon drink? Apparently it's Colton's grandma, Fern. And she's acting wild talking about 65 and you're alive and all the like weird stuff. Kind of just walking around the woods by herself. Uh, Jacob and his childhood friend, Danny.
[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_01] Danny? He's adopted. Adopted. Uh, finally catch up. Danny admits that he's always blamed himself for Jacob's disappearance. Jacob reassures him, listen, man, you didn't push me into the water. This isn't your fault. And then he proceeds to drink a lot and begin to talk a bit like somebody who's from the 1800s. He does that before he drinks a lot too. Uh, yeah, a little bit. Uh, Alice shows Dell the books and Dell is like, I'm not surprised by this.
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_01] They were good friends. Uh, but I have to insist that if Colton traveled through the pond, I would have known. He would have told me. All right. Uh, Fern tells Cat that, uh, it's nice to see someone using the pond again. Um, what's she mean by that? Cat wants to know. So she's like, did Colton ever use the pond?
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_01] And Fern cryptically responds with, if you want the right answers, you need to ask the right questions. And then she proceeds to go take a nap. Yeah. Uh, as cat, she's had a whole day. It's been a full day. Uh, that's exactly right. As cat heads back to the pond, she sees Colton talking to Evelyn.
[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_01] So she kind of stays back and overhears them discussing the pond. She's like, I heard that you were in the pond the other day. And he's about to tell her something big when they hear a noise, the noise of cat breaking a stick or something. So they kind of stopped talking. They're about to head back. And, uh, he's like, what are you going to get in the water? Basically. And she's like, I would never get in there without you. You know, the deal.
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01] Cat returns to the present where Dell warns her to leave the past alone. She's like, I don't understand why you can't do that. And cat scoffs with like, uh, as if, as if, as if I'm going to leave it alone. She then goes to rescue, uh, Jacob who got a little too drunk. Uh, he's just kind of having a tough time.
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_01] Um, and he's like, everybody's moving on, but not me. Uh, meanwhile, uh, Elliot discovers that his dad did indeed steal the ring back, even though he literally just promised him that he, we don't know. That's true. We don't know. Ring is not in the box. The ring's on the box. The ring is not in the box. Yeah. Uh, Alice and cute boy Noah kiss. So that's nice. Someone from her own time and year. That's great. We'd love to see it.
[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_01] And not her father or grandfather. As far as we know, as far as we know, as far as we know, as far as we know, uh, literally anything could happen. There's always still time. There's always still time. Uh, finally, Cat and Alice go to the archives to search for some more answers in the batch of, of, uh, boxes that, uh, uh, uh, what's the, what was, uh, Casey brought over and, uh, inside, you know, she's remembering that grandma was talking about 1965.
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_01] So they're kind of looking for clues revolving around 1965. And they find a flyer that talks about voting to fill the Landry pond back in 1965. And that my friends was the way home season three, episode three, live and let die. We did it. We did do it. Let's take a quick break. We'll come back and we will break this episode down with four segments here on deck. The hallmark.
[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_01] Everybody. It's deck. The hallmark it's Thursday. It's branch. Ryan. It's Dan. We're talking way home. So three, live and let die. Lots to get to let's not delay. Let's start with the hot tag. It's where we share our thoughts on this episode. Ryan, what'd you think?
[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_00] A lot of characters in this. There's a lot of characters in this show.
[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_02] Brand. It's like when they do those ensemble films and you get really stressed about writing the recap. Yeah, man. We've reached that territory.
[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_00] We're getting to Cherry Lane level.
[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah, we are. Yeah. There is a lot happening. This is a very heavy episode of TV. Not a lot. I said week one that no more lobster socials. We don't have enough time. I could have used a lobster social. Oh, that would have been great. Yeah. Remember that horse doctor?
[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_00] Where do you have him?
[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_02] Who's this crazy lady in the woods? Right.
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_00] Pass a butter, please.
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. Like for as much as I want the plot to move on this show, I really do. We said this last week. They're trying to course correct, right? Whether or not that's working is up to interpretation. But I also think they're running the risk now of like over correcting.
[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_00] Over course correcting.
[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because like just pacing is gone. Like and I don't mean that. Like so last season it was very slow, methodical. All the 1800s stuff was a snooze, at least for us. I mean, just so much is happening and there's so many people. I'll be honest and I'm watching the show and I'm taking notes. I didn't get right away that that was Colton's grandmother. Like and I'm like, listen, you know, I didn't even know. I believe that we didn't even see Kat go into the pond. We didn't.
[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_00] I asked Brian to confirm that.
[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah.
[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_01] And so I know because she was wet, but just poorly edited. She's not coming out of the pond. She's running back. Every time you see damp jeans, you know.
[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. But we're just moving so fast. Sorry, I have to show you guys everything. I mentioned last week that, you know, I really liked Rick's actor. It's a bummer that he's gone. I mean, the other thing is like, like we didn't, you know, Rick is like the central part of this episode and possibly the season. And we spent like eight minutes with him.
[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_02] It would have been nice to get to know him a little bit more so that some of this emotional gravitas would hit a little harder, at least with me. To that point, though, they're giving young Colton's actor a lot to do. I really think he's nailing it really. Again, I think the stuff in the 70s is pretty good. If you want me to be a little more critical, I said this last week, I'll say it again. There's a lot of exposition, but again, I think that's because they're moving so fast that they just need to create. It's a lot of tell and not show at times.
[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_02] And Elliot's dad is like one of the worst characters, like meanest people in the history of TV. And there's maybe that one brief moment at the end where it didn't seem like he was one note, but he probably still is. It's just a little too two dimensional one note T for me. I'd love for the next few episodes to focus on one thing. It'd be great if next week's episode just focused on one of these 35 plot lines we have going on. This isn't me saying the episode I thought was bad. Still infinitely better than anything in season two.
[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_02] I'm certainly entertained.
[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_01] That's true.
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_02] I mean, but I'm listen. I am not not enjoying the episodes, but if you want me to really put on my critics hat, it's just moving way too fast.
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_01] I'm having a blast. They call me fast brand for a reason. I love when things move fast. I'm having a great time. And could it be because of how sad I was to go to the 1800s every week last time? Maybe, but I'm just I'm having a great time. I'm really intrigued to see where this all goes.
[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_01] I feel as close to season one as I can because there's so many little things that they're doing that I'm like, I don't even know if this is going to end up being the thing that they end up following or if it's going to be a thing that actually leads to something or if they're setting it up for the future. I finally feel like that again about the show. And that's nice.
[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_01] And I am more convinced than ever that just everything that Del says leads me to think that she knows more than she does. Yeah. And that I know it doesn't do anything for you. I know you'd be mad. But it makes the character motivation in season one and two not make sense.
[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_00] You would agree with that.
[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_01] But guess who cares? Not me. Not most.
[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_00] As long as you're willing to admit it and you don't care. That's fine.
[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_01] I am excited about that. And I got to be honest, at this point, I'll be a little disappointed if she does it. Wow. I just I'm really I'm really intrigued to see where they take this season. And so and while I wasn't for almost all of last season, I'm finally getting that feeling back that I had. Wait, wait, wait.
[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_02] You said you loved every episode last season. Yes.
[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_01] Every single one. Well, back baby was said multiple times.
[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_00] Back baby was said at least three times.
[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_01] And I said in episode one of this season that some of that may have been.
[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_00] So how are we supposed to know when you're when you're being sincere?
[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_01] I was sincere in the moment. OK.
[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_00] You like Christmas? Man, he doesn't love Christmas. It's all a bit. I feel like this is unbelievable. Getting turned on me and I don't know why. I'm having a good time. Because you're not being honest on the pod. Dan? I am stuck in a liminal space between we're getting back on track and this is spinning out of control. Literally in between Brian and Ryan on this because I do see the formation of some possible fun ahead.
[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_00] I also see the fact that we are going at a breakneck pace with, and I'm going to lowball it, eight too many characters. Plot lines for days and considering how they treated the Jacob plot line that just was OK, who cares? And some of these other plot lines, I'm very worried that we're not going to really have that in the manner that a good TV show deserves. So part of me is, hey, this is opening itself up for some fun.
[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_00] The other part of me is this show is trying to replace or they have mistaken quantity for quality. And I lean towards the latter, but I hope for the former. I have some time travel questions because I feel like the Dell thing, I think Brian's right. I don't agree with his opinion on it, but I think it's pretty obvious that now, like the verbiage that Dell is using is very, very specific.
[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_00] And you cannot express to me in any way, shape or form that she would have not used the pond to try to find Jacob if she knew about it the whole time. That is a mom's love. And you can't use salt. This show was sold to me with Andy McDowell wanting her baby boy back. And it was done expertly. And if she knows about this pond, that's all ruined.
[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_00] So the Colton stuff is interesting to me almost to make it OK from travel past his death. It's not quite. I would still be out. But the Dell thing, I think, is going to bother me unless she's a pure, unadulterated villain who's trying to bring down the Landrys.
[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_01] Can I just ask you that?
[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_00] Yes, please do.
[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_01] Please do. Do you think it would? Is there any scenario in which Dell could be no, could know about it or could be a time trial? Perhaps she's stuck there. Perhaps she tried the pond multiple times and could never do it to get back to try to find her baby boy. Is there anything that would work for you?
[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_00] I've tried. I don't want to sink the show. Sinker swims later. We'll stay tuned. But just thinking about all those poignant scenes in seasons one and two, if she has a full working knowledge of the pond, it means A, she knows how it works. And B, she knows that people are going. And she is actively ignoring it for some sort of other strategic purpose.
[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_00] Yes. And I will say this leads me to, I can do it here or the way. I don't have any weight watts, but one of mine is time travel, which is this show has established a single timeline. So time travel shows have to commit to one single timeline that you can jump through back and forth one line or multiple universes. So whenever you travel, it splits, it splits. Watch Loki and you'll see how that works. You guys with me on that both so far? I'm with you. So this show has established one timeline.
[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_00] Well, they are stuck in what sci-fi lovers call the bootstrap paradox, which is people who don't exist yet can't be the catalyst for things happening. So not to put too fine a point on it with characters here, but characters that are results of actions can't be the reason for actions.
[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_00] And so if in this show, it's one timeline, but I guess the timeline starts at the end because all of the things in the past are happening because of things in the future. And that causes the thing to implode. So if Dell, the one saving grace, and I don't think Hallmark has the stones to do it, but the one saving grace is, is if Dell found the Landry family offensive.
[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_00] If Dell found the idea like that, that, that if, if, if Kat and Jacob are, are not, are Evelyn's kids and not her kids. And she has been traveling through time so many times to try to undo the Landry family. There is a universe where I, I guess I could buy that, but that's it.
[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_02] But I, I don't, my scenario, Dan, where her mind is scrambled from just, you know, like, you know, if, if it's amnesia-esque, that wouldn't work for you. So what, I just, the, the, the amount of, I haven't fully baked it out, if I'm being honest.
[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_00] Well, the writing that they would have to do to make her come to, in quotes, come to, I don't know how they do it. I don't know how they get there.
[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_01] I don't know. Yeah, I'm with you. Would it not be, in your mind, would it not be enough for Dell to have time traveled or whatever, or even not? But she, she learns that Colton time travels. And at the, at the end of, of the time, Colton and her make a, make a promise. We're never going to time travel. I'm not going to tell any about time travel. We're never going to do that again.
[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_01] And, uh, they tried many times to try to get Jacob through the pond and they couldn't. And she's just made, made a plea to her husband who has since passed that she will never talk about, about the pond.
[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_00] All that makes sense. Go ahead, Ryan.
[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_02] Well, I was just going to say though, you have to keep in mind these ghost Colton scenes. I feel like probably contradict that theory brand. Like we really would have to dissect what they're saying.
[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_00] They contradict that pretty hard, but also it, that is, I think that's fair. If it's just her, it doesn't explain her reaction to everyone else. Time traveling for two straight seasons coming in, sopping wet, not asking, not trying to stop them, not asking any questions, not doing any detective work.
[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_00] I mean, it would take an, an M night Shyamalan flashback episode of 40 minutes of all the times in season one and two where Kat and Alice thought they were traveling and she's behind the scenes looking at them. Watch. That's the level of what we're doing. And at that point, it's not a gimmick. It's just, we don't know how to fix this. So we wrote it in. I, that's what I'm talking about is to do it. Like, I'm sure there's a way to explain it. I just don't think there's a way that has any integrity. That's my issue. And I think that's where they're going. I think you're right.
[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_00] I think that's where they're going, but here's the thing.
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_02] I'm not convinced on it yet.
[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_00] Here's the thing is the fact that we're talking about this makes it better than season two. No kidding. Makes it better than season two. No kidding. So there is that.
[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_01] We're having fun again. We're having fun again. Let's get to all the feels. Right, guy?
[00:22:43] [SPEAKER_02] Elliot's dad, Vic Frommeyer, is, he's a very one, he's a very, I got you, Brad. He's a very one note character. Um, and, uh, Elliot asking him to leave was a very tough scene to watch, but I thought well-performed, uh, subsequently. So Dell throwing the, the dry biscuits at him was also like, those were like, yeah, scenes. So it's a character, very one note, but it did result in like two very, uh, cheer worthy moments.
[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_01] Listen, we love this. We love the biscuits. We love the biscuits. And when we, when we cut to, when we cut to market for a second, I thought maybe lobster
[00:23:19] [SPEAKER_00] social, maybe lobster social.
[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_01] Maybe if you squint, they're in the same, uh, I'm in the mood to gab.
[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_00] I have the gift of gab. It's me, the lobster.
[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_01] Listen, so far this season, we've gotten, uh, we've gotten Elton John. We've gotten, uh, Cat Stevens. Yeah. We're having a good time.
[00:23:34] [SPEAKER_00] Cat Stevens was a highlight of this. That was mine.
[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_01] It was a really great, uh, selection for the scene that they were doing there.
[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_00] Perfect Cat Stevens selection. They're mine. That was mine. We moved.
[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_01] Uh, let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll get to the way one, the sink or swim here on. Take the hallmark. Here we go. We're back. We're back. Uh, let's get to the way. What is what we're talking about? What is episode of me? Let's go. Wait, what's Ryan?
[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_02] Uh, Cat and Elliot announced that they're moving in together at the dinner table. And, uh, so they're like, Hey, we have great news. We're moving in together. And, and Dell, Andy McDowell, incomparable. Right. Uh, this isn't her fault. No. Like they, Dell goes right now. And then she meant it figuratively, but it was really funny and stupid. Like, uh, like, no, not right now. It's 10 o'clock at night.
[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_02] Uh, they, uh, they pour the wine on the second book and get as clear of a confession as they could ever want that Colton knew about the pond. It's like Bob Durst admitting that he killed everybody in the jail.
[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_01] Like, like, there it is. Yep. Yeah. I killed him.
[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. Uh, and, and then like right before the commercial, they still had to have Cat go, were they time travelers too? Like he just basically said it.
[00:24:59] [SPEAKER_00] One of the worst line deliveries of all time. So, so bad for such a great actor. So, so bad.
[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_02] I get it. Like it's the act out scene. We're trying to be suspenseful, but like we got the confession. Like you could have just acted out there. Um, so that was frustrating.
[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_00] Instead of asking the question going, there were time travelers too. Like that would make more sense.
[00:25:19] [SPEAKER_02] Boom. Sopranos. Fade to play. That's right. Like, you know, uh, yeah. Uh, Alice was the all time. This is the biggest one of the series so far. Alice was the all time worst waitress in the history of television and film. And now she's just suddenly seamlessly able to help on this food truck. What did I miss?
[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_00] No way. No how.
[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_02] Did I miss something in Minnesota?
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_00] That line is backing up. That line's not moving fast because they're flirting instead of cooking. So maybe she is taking her skills.
[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_02] She's still not good.
[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_00] And she's still not good, but you're right.
[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_02] You're right. That's a good interpretation of that. Uh, and then this is my, uh, my last one. Oh, so the, the woman, uh, uh, the, the grandmother, she's in the woods and she, it's all spooky and scary and all these things. And, you know, uh, she, she calls cat kitty cat and cats. Like, it's just cat. Was that really, did you really have to correct her?
[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_01] Come on, come on. Let her do her thing. Yeah. Found this one.
[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_00] She still said your name in the woods. Just let her be. Yeah.
[00:26:16] [SPEAKER_02] Yeah. I'd be like, if I was like, you know, uh, Bobastic brand, like, you know, you wouldn't have to correct me. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up. Big guy. Oh, bombastic. Bombastic. It's bombastic, right? You missed the L. Is bobastic a word, Dan? No, it is not a word. It is not a word.
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_01] Can we make, um.
[00:26:30] [SPEAKER_00] Yeah, let's coin it. Bobastic.
[00:26:33] [SPEAKER_01] Um, man, I, I feel for the extras that had to act like they were crying at somebody who, when the cat, when the, um, hearse was driving by, you know, you, you get to be an extra on a, on a set and you're like, it's going to be so much fun. And then you're, you're like, could you, could you all try crying? Um, it's tough. It's tough. And I feel for him. I feel for him because they're not actors. They're just extras.
[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_01] They're just hoping to come and hang out and see how the sausage is made. And some of them have to try crying. And I feel for him. I feel for him. I feel for him. Um, the pond has been so kind this season and bringing them to and back with no time missing. And that's like been a really kind thing for the pond to do. Shout out to the pond above and beyond this year. The pond takes you where you need to go. And this season, that's right. It's right there. The timelines are perfect. Perfect.
[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_01] And that's great. And I love that for them. Um, can you imagine waiting in line for a food truck? You're already pretty mad about that. And, um, uh, some punk teenager walk to the front of the line and starts talking to the person who's working. No, no one said a thing to her. No way no how. No one said a thing like, Hey, back of the line, kid. No one said anything. They're just better than all of us. Canada's nice people. The timelines are just nice. They're thinking it, but they're not going to say it.
[00:27:58] [SPEAKER_01] Um, and also just like, if I had two books where the corner of it says something when I pour wine on it, I'm pouring wine over every book on every page. Who knows if there's more? There could be more. What is there about what they have there that leads them to think that's it? And why is it wine? They need the one secret message and we're good now. We don't need to do anymore. I would be going.
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_00] Does that not work with a clear liquid? It has to be red wine. It has to be red wine. You could save a lot of books if you just poured some water on the back of it.
[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_01] I just, like, I guess you want something that's going to stay. It's going to stay. It's going to stick. It's going to stain. Yeah. Because then the message will stay longer.
[00:28:43] [SPEAKER_00] Some Sprite would be great. You can still read the book.
[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_01] I love Sprite Zero.
[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_00] I just shout out to a Red Baron pizza and Sprite Zero. You know what I'm talking about?
[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_01] Ryan, if you came across two books where one section of them gave you secret message, would you not go nuts just pouring stuff on liquids on books?
[00:29:03] [SPEAKER_02] Not if it was Sprite. I would use a different drink. Yeah, of course.
[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah.
[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_02] Well, maybe Sprite Sugar, but Sprite Zero, no.
[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah, they call it Sprite Sugar. That's what they call it.
[00:29:12] [SPEAKER_00] Can I get a Sprite Sugar? Dan? Yeah, good news. Three-piece suits in the pond dry as quick as denim does. That's good news for all of us. I know Brian was concerned, but denim dries very quick. A three-piece suit with a vest. You jump in the pond, dried almost instantly. Very, very good for all of us.
[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_01] Guys, I haven't brought it up yet this season, but every episode has been denim. Yeah. And jeans and water, whatever.
[00:29:37] [SPEAKER_02] Just wait till they bring the Ziplocs back. That's going to be terrible. Oh, yeah.
[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_00] Yeah, then we'll have a whole thing on our hands. Ryan stands by it. So Jasper Coyle, who owns Coyles, Coyle of Coyles. Yeah. At one point, they're talking about doing something in this episode, and he goes, I would do this, but you guys don't need an old coot like me getting involved. How old does Jasper think he is? Because old coot is 60-plus minimum, probably 70-plus.
[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_00] And Jasper Coyle moved from the States to Canada to dodge the draft, which didn't start until 1969 for men 18 to 25 years old. So the youngest he is is 22. The oldest he is is 29. Jasper Coyle is in his 20s calling himself an old coot in this episode. Brutal. Just brutal, Jasper.
[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_00] And writers, just be better. Hey, Jake, buddy, they don't know you grew up in the 1800s. That's the whole thing is you can't just toss in. This is pre-drunk. You can't just toss in 1800s vernacular on purpose and not expect to get looked at like a crazy person. Like you just, you can't do that. You can't, you know, that's not how that works.
[00:31:02] [SPEAKER_00] And then lastly, fairly serious weight. What? But what I talked about with time travel earlier, the having one timeline, at least if you follow the rules of it, they've established that you can't change the future. Everybody agree with that? You agree with that? I think so. I think so. No matter how many times they go find Jacob, he ends up leaving. No matter what. Okay. So everybody agrees you can't change the future.
[00:31:23] [SPEAKER_00] But they also are saying that they have changed the past because they're saying that Alice is responsible for Colton being alive. The granddaughter of Colton, who is not going to exist for 20 some years, is responsible for him being alive to Marydell and to have Cat who has Alice. That does not fly. It doesn't work.
[00:31:49] [SPEAKER_00] You can't save the life of the person that created you. This isn't a sermon, if you can believe it. But you can't, you can't do that. That is not, that doesn't work. Which, you said at the end of last episode, does lend itself to go, is Alice Colton's granddaughter? Is Cat's, is Cat really Colton's daughter?
[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_00] Because if we're, like, the premise of the show has always said that Colton wasn't going to get in that car regardless. Right? Like, if Alice goes back or not, Colton isn't getting in that car. He isn't. Alice didn't save his life. That was what happened. And that was what was going to happen. Not because of Alice, but because that is the timeline. You can't change the future. Can't change the past. One timeline.
[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_00] In this particular instance, we're led to believe that the granddaughter of someone saved the person that would later basically create them. And I, you can't do, you, you can't do it. You can't do it. You have to give me a time travel explanation for that, that follows the rules of time travel. And I'm not super confident they're going to give me one. That's all I got.
[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_01] It's time for sink or swim. Um, clear rules are clear. Right? Everybody knows.
[00:33:12] [SPEAKER_02] I am swimming this week because, uh, yeah, we're back. We're back, baby. Uh, 1970s Evelyn. Evelyn. At one point, it's just a throwaway line, but she goes, one does not move on from the utter devastation of unrequited love. And I go, this character is really funny. I really, I don't, I'll be honest. I don't really remember present day Evelyn at all. Uh, but 1970s Evelyn is really good. I think we should spin her off. I want the 1970s Evelyn show. Let's do it. I'm swimming on that brand.
[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_00] It's the Evelyn show in the 1970s. Evelyn show.
[00:33:43] [SPEAKER_01] It's the Evelyn show. Everybody loves Evelyn.
[00:33:47] Do do.
[00:33:48] [SPEAKER_01] Um, yeah, listen, I'm, uh, I'm intrigued with how they brought, you know, we've, we've been in 74 now for, uh, at least, uh, three episodes. For at least a couple seconds, you know, I, uh, they bring up 65 and I'm like, well, I just was getting used to 74.
[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_00] If you had 65, this show is cherry link. That's true. There's a lot of things going on. 65, 74, 99, 2024.
[00:34:18] [SPEAKER_01] But I don't know why they would bring up the flyer from 65 and, uh, then not go, not go to the archives in present day.
[00:34:28] [SPEAKER_00] See what Casey's got.
[00:34:29] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah. I, I, uh, I don't know. I don't know what to do with that. And so I don't, I am going to sink going to 65. Let us just enjoy 74 this season.
[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_00] Okay. You just are so, so desperate to, you're so thirsty for no 1800. It's ridiculous.
[00:34:46] [SPEAKER_01] I, uh, what does that have to do with that? We're not afraid if we keep going back. Eventually we'll get closer and closer to 18. No, let's. You're just like. Well, I'll take 65 over 1800 too. Yeah. So if that, if it's given the choices and someone said, Hey, we were, we're up against it. We're deciding between more 1800s. We're up against it.
[00:35:05] [SPEAKER_00] They're called brand on the secret line. Yeah.
[00:35:07] [SPEAKER_01] The team over there calls me. I would say, let's do 65 all day and twice on Sunday. But I would, if I had my, of course, if they were calling me again, they said, okay, we've decided I'd be like, well, let me hear you. What if you about this one? So let's just stick in 74 for a little bit.
[00:35:21] [SPEAKER_00] Stick it. Stick in it. Yeah. Um, I'm swimming this week because it is the, for, for the first time since the year of our Lord 2023, that I do care about what happens next.
[00:35:35] [SPEAKER_01] Wow.
[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_00] We're back, baby. We're not back. We're back, baby.
[00:35:41] [SPEAKER_01] But we, we, we're back, baby.
[00:35:43] [SPEAKER_00] We're back. We, we could be back, baby.
[00:35:45] [SPEAKER_01] We're back, baby. Whoa.
[00:35:47] [SPEAKER_00] We could be back.
[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_02] We could be back, baby. We could be back, baby. We're not back.
[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_00] We could be back, baby. How about that? I want my baby back, baby, baby, baby back. I want my baby back, baby, baby, baby. I want my baby back, baby, baby back. Did you say? Barbecue sauce.
[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_01] I almost said Billy. Oh, I thought you said bitches. No, I said, but chillies. I can see how you got there. Yeah. Uh, we did it. Everybody, congratulations to us. We'll be back next time on another one. Until then, may Dan be the first to wish you a Merry Christmas. There it is.
