[00:00:01] Hi, I'm Brandon. I love when calls the heart. Hi, I'm Jackson. I like when calls the heart. I'm Dan season 12, baby
[00:00:10] This is the deck the hallmark podcast
[00:00:32] Everybody
[00:00:34] Welcome welcome one and all did it sit differently watching this episode knowing that we weren't in the homestretch of the last six episodes
[00:00:42] Ever and that we had a whole nother batch next year. Oh, did it get announced?
[00:00:47] It did get announced season 12 this weekend got announced believe it was on Friday's Thursday. Maybe I don't it's interesting. Yeah
[00:00:56] Did you just not take in the information I try not to take in any information
[00:01:02] I know yeah
[00:01:05] Got announced season 12 is happening. No, I knew I thought I texted you guys
[00:01:10] Yeah, I must not have seen it. I think maybe you did but I was too focused on
[00:01:18] The scheduling part of it. I think maybe I think now it's all coming back to me
[00:01:22] I do think it was all in that one thing and I went straight to I don't know whatever your problem solver
[00:01:29] I'm a problem solver. That's exactly right
[00:01:33] Just like Nathan and Elizabeth are in this week's episode their problem solver. Yes, and we're gonna get to that so much more
[00:01:42] Jax how are you? Give us give us the life update what's going on with you? Like who are you really one of them?
[00:01:51] One of the most exciting things is that I just pre-ordered Hollywood pride. Yeah. Well at this point it's out
[00:01:57] You have to pre-order it now wait me for it. Oh, right. I'm sorry
[00:02:01] Yeah, I pre-ordered a couple days ago and I just got that it is gone
[00:02:06] Way, so, you know what made me pre-order it. I thought when we recorded last time I saw it in the background
[00:02:13] I was like, oh my gosh, I can't believe I've been pre-ordered
[00:02:15] It wasn't the interview that I did with Alonzo Duraldi where we talked about it for an hour that you definitely listen to
[00:02:20] I
[00:02:22] What you know what it was
[00:02:25] And it was so good obviously got an advanced copy. It's wonderful. Hi recommend. It's a beautiful
[00:02:32] Looking book the layout is just just marvelous. Yeah, so
[00:02:37] Wonderful look to have around the sales are important check it out get it this week guys
[00:02:44] Books one sales are good first week sales are good one sales are good. That's right
[00:02:50] And as we're going into Pride Month in June, you know get one for yourself get a gift for a friend. That's right
[00:02:56] That's right. They like Hollywood if they like pride really it's for everyone for everybody. That's right
[00:03:02] anybody that likes movies in history or
[00:03:07] Think and speaking of a film and in general I've been thinking about you know, I'm pretty limited in my
[00:03:14] If it came out before like 20 cuz I really got into movies like around 2012 like yeah when I finally like, yeah, you know
[00:03:22] Became an adult moved out of my parents house moved up to Greenville and that's right movie paths came out
[00:03:27] And I just I realized I love going to the movies. That's right. I love watching them. That's right. Um, I think I might
[00:03:34] do like a
[00:03:35] Go through like the best movies of all time or something. That's a really good idea brain
[00:03:40] Would do that with you like the top top 100 what is that the the if I yeah
[00:03:44] No, you don't think you just rolled your eyes at that
[00:03:47] I think the AFI top one people that do that like they're missing so much
[00:03:50] I think and that list does change from time to time, but I think that you it's not a bad
[00:03:59] Alfred Fred and Ingrid, yes, of course
[00:04:02] They know their stuff. That's pretty H cock Fred Astaire and Ingrid Bergman. Yes, you they know their stuff. I know their stuff
[00:04:09] Jax, would you do you have you seen a lot of like classic movies?
[00:04:13] Jackson's missed a ton of movies. She's tall. Yeah, I'm she talks about she's not it's not just the classics though
[00:04:18] Like it's I would say it's equal measure of also just really popular
[00:04:24] Things that aren't even considered classics that I like Princess Bride. I mean, I thought it was a classic
[00:04:29] You've not seen Princess Bride. Oh, we've covered this
[00:04:32] It's so sad that actually really hurts my heart and he seemed like one movie from the 80s
[00:04:37] Yeah, I know I've seen a lot of I said a good bit of stuff from the 80s a good bit of stuff from that
[00:04:42] Like once you get before the 80s, though, I'm pretty. Oh, yeah, pretty
[00:04:45] Yeah, but you aside from what I've seen that's not but that's not true entirely
[00:04:49] I've I've what I watched a good bit of stuff for 25 weeks of Christmas with Alonzo and I really enjoyed that still like
[00:04:56] Casablanca is usually one two three or four in that AFI list depending on the year. Yeah, I've never seen it
[00:05:00] It's great
[00:05:01] But I don't know how much you would get out of that like
[00:05:05] Like there's another Humphrey Bogart movie called the Maltese Falcon, which I like better than Casablanca
[00:05:10] Oh, wow, there's a there's a take that up with Alfred film war. No Alfred has nothing to do with it that different our
[00:05:16] But yeah
[00:05:17] I think I think there's gonna be times when you're gonna enjoy yourself in times where you're gonna be like like have you seen Citizen
[00:05:21] Kane no, I've never seen citizen. Yeah, you're gonna need to watch citizen. Can I have any there? Should we do a podcast?
[00:05:27] I
[00:05:30] Have seen Casablanca Jax are we doing a show it's just to to two people that love movies that haven't seen movies
[00:05:38] Like I think that describes us. We love a movie. We think we love movies
[00:05:43] But we haven't seen a lot of movies
[00:05:46] I mean, I think I think also with our optimism and earnest attitude of wanting to like things but also
[00:05:54] Our taste some would consider questionable I think this could be a great job I did watch
[00:06:00] 2008's The Strangers to prepare for
[00:06:03] 2024 to the strangers. Yeah, because I somehow not seen it even though I was really pretty tough watch boring boring movie
[00:06:11] It's a it's it's a lot of in
[00:06:14] I kept thinking about how funny because they do a ton of the thing where they show the person out in the distance
[00:06:19] Cut back and then you look back and they're gone doing the thing where she can cry on command
[00:06:24] But but over and over again in that movie didn't like her by the way. Is she a ship do people like her live?
[00:06:29] Yeah, okay live Tyler's like, you know, yeah, I thought it was thing you do
[00:06:33] Have you seen I like either either of the two leads? I thought they were both pretty pretty not great in that movie
[00:06:39] Wow, these are some takes I know but I kept thinking about how funny it would be to
[00:06:45] If they cut back and they they aren't fully off the screen yet, they're like running away
[00:06:54] Cuz so much of that movie is hey
[00:06:56] There's a scary guy with a mask in the distance you cut back to the person who like oh my gosh
[00:07:01] And then they look and they're gone. It's just like what if they didn't get away?
[00:07:05] It's a slow-mo to torture that movie like it is
[00:07:07] It is like the ambiance of it is what is
[00:07:11] 2018 I did not see the next one. No, I didn't I'm cuz the trailer for the new one looks really good
[00:07:17] All right. Let's get to win. Coastal heart season 11. Have you not seen that thing you do?
[00:07:22] season 11
[00:07:24] Episode 6 it is called Jax the kiss
[00:07:30] Times up baby, it's called believe if you just believe
[00:07:36] You
[00:07:38] Like believe like believe Elizabeth believe women believe women yes
[00:07:49] It's Goldie's first birthday and this little girl doesn't even try to blow out the candle
[00:07:53] Can you just try a little bit Goldie Goldie? Can you just try a little bit what happened to you?
[00:07:59] Raise
[00:08:00] That'll happen to you sometimes
[00:08:02] Baby, Jack gives her a stuffed bear
[00:08:04] It's cute the next day Elizabeth is walking to school with baby Jack and Nathan conveniently walks out of his house
[00:08:11] while she's walking by his house and
[00:08:15] No way he wasn't just peeking out the window waiting for her to walk by right right. That's what happened right?
[00:08:20] He's definitely watch watching for
[00:08:23] He goes to say hey I can carry the books for you. They touch hands
[00:08:28] And now she's pregnant
[00:08:33] She talks about being a bit nervous about the meeting with the school board and
[00:08:38] He's like you're gonna crush it. You always crush it. You're amazing at everything you do
[00:08:42] She's at the school, and she's surprised to find out that the school board sent the guy
[00:08:49] from many seasons ago
[00:08:52] Thomas Higgins big bone he made some advances
[00:08:56] Yeah, said hey I can make your career and his career has skyrocketed
[00:09:01] Yes, it has by making it bands makes you wonder who?
[00:09:05] As he on the receiving end of maybe something going on in school board
[00:09:08] I don't know the boys put a mayor's sign on Lee's office the silly boys
[00:09:15] Rosemary shows up at Bill's office and gives him bad news their request to interview Pike has been denied
[00:09:23] Frickham and may are hanging out. She's talking about how much she misses
[00:09:27] Mrs.. Holmes she misses her brother. She misses her mom's cooking
[00:09:34] Hick bones
[00:09:36] Wants to meet with Elizabeth after school hours to discuss quote-unquote school stuff
[00:09:42] Would love to do that over dinner
[00:09:43] She says I don't I don't want to do that and he says I'll give you some time to reconsider that
[00:09:49] After school she bumps into Nathan something's clearly bothering her, but she insists that it's nothing
[00:09:55] But Nathan knows better this week last week didn't know better this week knows better
[00:10:00] Obviously she confines in Rhodes mayor
[00:10:04] Obviously she confides in Rhodes in Rhodes Mary Mary
[00:10:08] And
[00:10:10] Tells her about what's going on and the guy and she encourages her to tell Nathan he can arrest them
[00:10:15] She's a arrested for what and she's a you should just talk to Nathan
[00:10:19] Joseph is still struggling with what to say to his brother. He's writing a lot of letters throwing him in the trash wasting a lot
[00:10:24] of paper Hick bones comes back in to talk to Elizabeth and is trying to once again convince
[00:10:33] Her to get dinner with him and she's trying to convince him to go to the restaurant
[00:10:38] And it's also like hey
[00:10:41] Elizabeth is like you know we have kids talking a little bit about school
[00:10:45] And how kids learn at different paces and stuff like that well
[00:10:47] And he's like well maybe all these kids that learn differently need to go to a different school
[00:10:52] She's like don't do that, and he's like well if you scratch my back. I'll scratch your back
[00:10:56] She's like I don't know what you're talking about there, but before you can explain that further Anna comes in teachers aid Anna
[00:11:04] We know her do an internship, okay?
[00:11:07] Rosemary isn't that what a teacher's aid is but a teacher's aid is someone that's hired full-time to be an aide an intern is someone
[00:11:14] That is in schooling and yes great. I love that it's very different
[00:11:18] Rosemary is excited to show bill
[00:11:21] proof that
[00:11:24] Pike and Montague have a connection
[00:11:27] And this proves that maybe Montague could have hired pike since they know each other
[00:11:31] They consider telling Lucas this information
[00:11:33] But decide not to not until they got a better case on their hands Elizabeth sees Hig bones talking to Anna
[00:11:40] And after he walks off she goes up to Anna and says be careful of that boy right there
[00:11:45] then
[00:11:46] then she confronts him at the saloon and
[00:11:50] He's like be careful accusing me of stuff, or I'll make sure that the school board changes the name of the school
[00:11:57] Remember it's named after her dead husband Thornton Thornton
[00:12:03] She finally tells Elizabeth. I'm sorry she finally tells Nathan
[00:12:09] About what's going on and who this guy is and so they decide to set up a sting it's a sting operation everybody
[00:12:16] She's in the movie the sting no God invites Hig bones to the school and
[00:12:21] Gets him basically to confess about what he's done
[00:12:26] Not just to her but to many teachers over the years and it's at this point Nathan comes out and says you've just confessed
[00:12:32] Giddy up cowboy so he then goes to complain to Lucas that they set up a sting and he's like nah, bro
[00:12:38] They told me about you. I know what you're up to I believe Elizabeth, and I believe all the women
[00:12:43] I believe all the women that have said stuff about you
[00:12:48] And so he's like yeah, then he threatens Lucas
[00:12:51] He's like I'm very I got a lot of people that I know in Capital City, and he's like well
[00:12:56] I will add you threatening a
[00:12:59] Governing official to your list of things that we're gonna build a case around about you mr.. Sir
[00:13:07] Lee has the first meet the mayor mr.. Sir from home. Yeah, I have seen home love it
[00:13:14] Of course of course very big movie for me
[00:13:19] Lee has the first meet the mayor meeting where he gets to meet all the townspeople that already know who he is
[00:13:25] But he's gonna have this type of meeting every week's to hear from the townspeople
[00:13:29] And what's important to them may surprises Mike with a dinner date where she makes?
[00:13:33] Her some traditional meals from her childhood, and he surprises her with chopstick skills
[00:13:39] And you better believe that earns a kiss buddy
[00:13:43] Elizabeth and Nathan sit on a stoop either
[00:13:46] She thanks him for just being here
[00:13:49] Puts her head honors on his shoulder, and they look about the big old fake moon
[00:14:02] Jackson you seen this thing
[00:14:05] Of course
[00:14:09] This thing is a phenomenal movie, and it used to be an AFI's top 100. I just looked up
[00:14:14] It's not in there currently, but it is great. You should check it out. Who's it starring Paul Newman Paul Newman?
[00:14:22] I know Paul G Imani
[00:14:24] Yeah, just Paul Newman. He's the guy that does salad dressing right yeah, I know Randy Newman
[00:14:31] Yeah
[00:14:40] I know Paul Rudd
[00:14:43] guys
[00:14:46] It's time to break this episode down also is Robert Redford in it. You know him yeah, I know the Redford
[00:14:53] Where the Redford grows yeah, there's a forest
[00:14:57] Movie oh my gosh and decent proposal. Yeah, he's in that haven't seen it
[00:15:03] Really good not as important as the sting okay?
[00:15:05] Alright great
[00:15:07] Let's talk one calls our season 11 episode 6 believe
[00:15:11] and I believe
[00:15:14] We'll start with a hot take
[00:15:16] Exactly how he felt about this episode
[00:15:18] We will not hold back, and I will start with my friend Jax Jax. It's been a bit of a bumpy road this season
[00:15:24] We all had our frustrations last week
[00:15:26] Did they did they get you back in and good good favor here with this episode Jax?
[00:15:33] Fellas this is my favorite episode of the season far and away, maybe my favorite episode of the series
[00:15:44] When call your beat come on
[00:15:46] No, no okay. Here's the thing they're singing my song
[00:15:50] They're doing what they need to do like let me let me say that you guys know the movie promising young woman
[00:15:56] Yes, Carrie Mulligan great movie though Carrie Mulligan great movie
[00:16:00] I am NOT saying that this is as good as promising young woman or anything like that, but promising young woman
[00:16:07] I was like yes
[00:16:08] Let's do it then that genre like that genre and the way they did that film was incredible
[00:16:14] This was when calls the hearts for this genre for this network
[00:16:19] promising young
[00:16:21] Woman moment, and I was here for it. I thought I thought you guys
[00:16:26] that
[00:16:28] Especially Aaron Craig goes acting in this I thought was impeccable. I thought I was like yes
[00:16:33] We're getting to see her do what she can do. I thought they took subject matter that was
[00:16:39] Really quite difficult and handled it with a lot of integrity and yes was it a little on the nose sometimes sure
[00:16:46] but
[00:16:48] I'm like honestly
[00:16:51] Fine great do it acknowledge it
[00:16:54] There was a little bit of nuance I thought everything was handled with a lot of care
[00:16:59] I love May and Mike I love Goldie's first birthday my niece's first birthday is coming up
[00:17:06] So that gave me like all these like fun little squishy feel
[00:17:10] I
[00:17:14] Really thought you guys
[00:17:16] That this was very well acted well directed and well written
[00:17:21] I'm not saying
[00:17:23] that
[00:17:25] It wasn't on the nose
[00:17:27] But I was okay with it. I thought it was a brave thing for this show to tackle
[00:17:33] Can I I love that take because I love the message of the episode, but can I push back a little please do?
[00:17:40] I think the thing about Hope Valley is is it exists Viv Leacock said this it exists in a world
[00:17:47] Where things are it isn't this world?
[00:17:49] It's why in 1920 we can have a black family and an Asian woman and all the all these interracial relationships
[00:17:57] Everybody just accepts all the time
[00:17:59] So when they so they don't hint they don't talk about racism in when calls the home
[00:18:04] They just act like it doesn't exist
[00:18:06] They act like we've never had a single second of this show where someone treats someone less than because of the color of their skin
[00:18:13] not once yeah, and
[00:18:15] So they live in that vacuum and so when they try to do something like this I
[00:18:22] Felt like it undermines the actual problem. I I felt like I felt like it was a full eye roll like instead of
[00:18:31] Continuing to treat like in this show women should just be treated with the same respect and equality
[00:18:36] That men are treated with because by and large they are that is what they've decided
[00:18:40] When they have a girl is a mayor, that's right
[00:18:42] Yes, Abigail's the mayor and so all of a sudden it's we have some diametrically opposed
[00:18:49] World-building in my opinion, which is now we're taking this serious issue
[00:18:54] And we're gonna show you where wind calls the heart stands and have Lucas say I believe
[00:18:59] Women and I listen anytime we get that on Hallmark. It's hard to argue
[00:19:03] So I'm not here to say they shouldn't have done it. I think anytime we get that message. It's great
[00:19:10] However, I just kind of roll my eyes that of all the things they're not tackling
[00:19:15] They are going out of their way to not tackle
[00:19:18] racism economic
[00:19:20] Inequality all of these big big things that they just kind of go not in our world not in our world
[00:19:25] Not in our perfect universe. They're like, you know what even in our perfect universe?
[00:19:29] We're still tackling this and I just it felt it felt very manipulative to me
[00:19:35] But I'm happy don't you think don't you think that they?
[00:19:39] With the Canfields when they talked about them coming from the different town how they didn't take them
[00:19:46] They didn't take the medical thing. Seriously to me that
[00:19:50] Seemed like it was a racism thing. Okay, I don't remember that. I gotta be flat honest. I don't even remember it
[00:19:56] So honestly, like I don't think it I don't think it got the attention it deserved
[00:20:01] I understand in Hope Valley the way we're kind of like part of the whole thing is that we're away from these problems
[00:20:07] but I think if they did start addressing it in this sort of like
[00:20:13] It isn't it's very sanitized right, but I would love to see them do this with an
[00:20:18] Economic inequality with racism, you know with with all of that stuff
[00:20:22] Like I do think it would be great if they did that and I thought they sort of touched on it a little bit
[00:20:27] With the Canfields with the medical thing not being taken seriously
[00:20:30] And for me, this was like them being like can we do it? Can people handle this? Let's see what happens
[00:20:35] But I hear what you're I'm here you're saying and I do appreciate that take I don't think it
[00:20:41] Yeah, I think both of you have a fair points
[00:20:45] Yeah, I think this I would have this episode has slapped a bit harder if they had kissed last episode. I think
[00:20:53] Last episode it was it just it had it has a carryover effect for me
[00:20:59] Where it's I still got a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth
[00:21:03] But overall I agree I did like the episode overall I
[00:21:08] Was the messaging a little heavy-handed short like all that was missing was
[00:21:12] Elizabeth talking to Anna be like it happened to me too and looking right at the camera and then it's like the more you know
[00:21:19] but overall
[00:21:22] We never joke that's exactly right
[00:21:25] and so I appreciate what they did I I
[00:21:30] did think that the May and
[00:21:33] Frickin stuff was fine. I don't care really about
[00:21:38] Lee being the mayor and how meetings with people that he sees every day
[00:21:43] I
[00:21:44] Need more rosemary and I feel like we have this for sure
[00:21:49] We've kind of forgotten that there's where the further we get removed from episode one
[00:21:54] The more I forget about what we're even trying to investigate and every week it feels like hey
[00:22:00] Did we get anything we maybe got something I don't know tell Lucas yet
[00:22:04] let's not tell Lucas yet, and so I hope we get a a
[00:22:08] heavy
[00:22:10] Investigation episode soon where the two of them are the two main players and the episode rosemary and Bill
[00:22:16] I would like that and I would appreciate it
[00:22:19] And I think it would do a lot for reminding us
[00:22:22] What happened in episode one and how important it is and all that stuff?
[00:22:26] Because the more we get removed with nothing happening the less I care
[00:22:30] I'm so I'm starting to not care about it anymore, and it was my favorite thing going on so I need a big
[00:22:37] Rosemary and Bill episode here in the next week like episode 11
[00:22:42] Sure, but yeah overall a fight a fine episode would have been even better if they had just kissed last week
[00:22:48] And I could have just you know breathe a sigh of relief Dan. Oh, yeah, I hated this episode
[00:22:52] I also think that the whole plotline with having Higgins come back to town
[00:22:57] He's not been around for seven seasons, which is anywhere from six months to five years in this show. I don't know
[00:23:03] Is that it just was there so that they could show?
[00:23:07] growth in the Nathan Elizabeth relationship
[00:23:10] It felt like a card played to me
[00:23:13] It felt like a card played to allow Nathan to be a hero
[00:23:17] To for them to get closer
[00:23:18] And it was a weird way to do it, and it was kind of tone-deaf
[00:23:21] And I I didn't like it at all we get very little of Bill and Rosemary very little on the resort
[00:23:26] I guess they're just moving forward. I guess that council did vote yes Lee as mayor
[00:23:31] We this is not a good idea
[00:23:33] It just isn't a good idea that Lee and Rosemary stuff are best when they are together and hijinks ensue
[00:23:40] And they have a miscommunication, and they're juggling the paper in the we didn't even know does he do lumber anymore
[00:23:46] I don't know I like did that the Lee stuff isn't working the resort talk about conflict of interest
[00:23:53] The mayor is running the lumber company
[00:23:55] That's gonna be doing the lumber for the resort and then no one think about this
[00:24:00] It is a huge conflict of interest much of that. He should sell his lumber company
[00:24:04] Yeah, just like Lucas had to sell his saloon. Yeah, same thing. It's a conflict of interest
[00:24:09] I just feel like look the Nathan Elizabeth thing they have great chemistry
[00:24:13] We're doing we're getting them closer through really interesting message means
[00:24:18] The resort we've not even talked about it much aside from a little bit with one scene with Gowan
[00:24:23] Lee as mayor isn't working the thing we were hanging our hat on was Rosemary and Bill
[00:24:28] And there's just not enough of that they have
[00:24:31] They have enough for they probably got 40 minutes of it for remaining in the season total
[00:24:36] And they're gonna stretch it out over six episodes, and I hate that and so we're in the doldrums right now that
[00:24:42] Elizabeth and Nathan aren't kissing we're getting a season 12 it life's just not fair
[00:24:48] Let's get to all the fields. We're talking about the fields in this episode
[00:24:52] Jax
[00:24:55] Okay, so you guys are talking about this lack of a kiss
[00:24:59] Which to me if we're talking about stuff being on the nose and obvious
[00:25:02] It's like you guys like there's like there's so much more than kissing right like
[00:25:15] I'm not gonna get
[00:25:18] This lesson from Jax they have been doing this dance for five years
[00:25:23] May sue and Hickam have kissed multiple times. They've done done everything else Jax
[00:25:34] Yeah, this is like that Josh Hartnett the 40 days
[00:25:38] For whatever that was like
[00:25:41] Days is about alcoholism Jack so calm it down over there the Sandra Bullock different movie
[00:25:47] Yeah, stay tuned for Jack sex ed and alcoholism talk. We'll have it on a separate episode
[00:25:54] They've done everything else this is not a new relationship
[00:25:59] May sue Hickam have followed that arc. It's an arc
[00:26:04] You know, they've touched hands head on shoulder and then they kiss this is not
[00:26:10] We're asking for
[00:26:12] Positively pornographic the way she reacted to the touch
[00:26:21] Okay, sure I felt that and then also I actually did I actually thought brand and it's interesting that you're you're still
[00:26:29] talking about how
[00:26:31] You're sad there wasn't a kiss last time because when I saw the end of this episode and
[00:26:35] She she like rested her head on Nathan the moon is there
[00:26:39] I was like, oh, this is why we didn't have a kiss and I like this maybe bran will have changed his tune
[00:26:48] Considering the subject matter it would have been weird for their first kiss to be in the show. Oh, yeah, I would like no
[00:26:54] Absolutely. No, please. No
[00:26:57] Same thing hear me out if they had flipped this week in last week's episode
[00:27:01] Which they basically could do hardly anything changes aside from the mayor storyline
[00:27:06] You flip those two weeks then last week's episode being episode 6 that would have been the time to
[00:27:14] Take his last week that the end of this episode wouldn't have worked. Oh
[00:27:20] No, no, I'm saying it could no no it could have but I actually like this like slow build
[00:27:25] But to Dan's point, he's really got me thinking if we would have had this
[00:27:30] Thing with Elizabeth and Nathan that's really solidifying their intimate connection. Then she tells them they're more than friends and then they kiss
[00:27:37] Yeah, that works for me
[00:27:39] You guys are not wrong. That works for me
[00:27:43] And also I had so many may sue and Hickam feels I think that Amanda who plays me sue is
[00:27:49] Just so good on this show
[00:27:52] I think she manages to bring a lot of warmth, but she's not
[00:27:56] She's never muscling through it. It's never too much
[00:27:58] She just has a natural easy way about her and I just want to see her in more things
[00:28:02] I think she is endlessly talented and then finally when Bill
[00:28:06] Thought he was gonna see Goldie and it was just a bunch of files that made me laugh
[00:28:10] Of course it did
[00:28:14] Yeah, I mean did the the hand touch thing work for me yeah
[00:28:17] I've put it I've said it many times on this show in different ways a hand touch
[00:28:23] accidental hand touch is always gonna work for me and so it did in this episode and
[00:28:29] Still could have the kids last episode. It still would have worked
[00:28:32] So when I started dating my wife
[00:28:34] We had Asian food one time and I didn't know how to use chopsticks and I went home and I practiced chopsticks because I didn't
[00:28:40] Want to be embarrassed and I knew it was important to her. And so this
[00:28:44] Episode
[00:28:45] Reminded me of those early years in high school dating my wife and and how much how wonderful it was and still is
[00:28:51] So I enjoyed those scenes
[00:28:53] I think it's ridiculous how they got this dinner together in a day and a half. We'll get there later. But this that idea of
[00:29:00] Being interested in someone and so putting work in to to meet them where they are
[00:29:06] Is awesome and it's a much more realistic track of a relationship
[00:29:11] Than the Nathan Elizabeth one or really the Lucas and Elizabeth one for that matter or really the Jack and Elizabeth one for that matter
[00:29:19] What I'm saying is is it was a great scene and I enjoyed it and it gave me feels of dating my own wife
[00:29:26] 23 years ago
[00:29:31] We started dating in March of oh one
[00:29:34] And we've been and it'll be 18 years of marriage in September and just one quick follow-up
[00:29:40] Was she always like so adorable? Yeah. Yeah, okay. Yeah interesting quite like what's he gonna say to that?
[00:29:49] When you when you buy low sell hot
[00:29:57] And then we got hot
[00:30:00] Don't I know
[00:30:05] Welcome back we're talking about when calls to heart season 11 episode 6 believe
[00:30:18] It's time for the way what is we're talking about what in this episode made us go away one. I'll start with you Jax
[00:30:22] I think you guys are gonna get into this in detail, but I was watching this with Alex and
[00:30:29] We were laughing so hard
[00:30:31] I mean it was beautiful and may sue looks gorgeous, but the amount of lanterns that she has hung
[00:30:36] like
[00:30:43] It's the Jazz Age, there's still mail by train and stuff you're in Northwestern, Canada
[00:30:55] When it first opened and I saw a few I was like, okay, yeah like, you know
[00:30:59] And then when they zoomed out like I all I could do was picture this sweet soul like hanging them
[00:31:06] And it was utterly ridiculous. It sent me
[00:31:11] Over I just I just couldn't it took me out because it was such a beautiful scene and she looks so gorgeous
[00:31:16] And then I was like this poor woman hanging lanterns all day in addition to cooking for this man
[00:31:21] The setback people were like we do with Christmas trees
[00:31:24] Should we do it with lanterns where we'd like it's definitely too many and it's unrealistic
[00:31:28] Well anyone notice but you could probably find Christmas trees easier than Chinese lanterns, you know Valley in 1920
[00:31:36] but if you
[00:31:38] if you really think about how
[00:31:40] Long it takes for people to put up Christmas trees if it could take you out of it, but we don't care
[00:31:45] No, it looks good. Yeah, so say with the like the amount of time
[00:31:49] It wasn't it Lucas when they he and Elizabeth kiss there's like 30 candles. Oh my god
[00:31:56] Insane yeah
[00:31:59] Like they're on a wooden bench like I'm like ever fire fire hazard, but he's a Mountie
[00:32:05] Nathan was hoping it would just all go up in flames
[00:32:09] Anything else Jax no
[00:32:11] at the beginning of a soda, it's cake time and
[00:32:15] Lee goes to cut the cake and he's been gone for a minute. Yeah a while and
[00:32:22] Rosemary does a little like passive-aggressive like can't wait for cake one of those things and you hear him say relax
[00:32:27] It takes time to cut cake. I mean not really
[00:32:30] It doesn't take that long buddy and just say just say you didn't know how I if I if I try to cut cake
[00:32:37] It's okay. No longer looks like a
[00:32:40] Understand it's circle. I understand if I tried it's never symmetrical. I don't start in the middle. I don't know what I don't know either
[00:32:46] Yeah, what it's wild. What's the deal with cake every time I see a cake cut the first piece?
[00:32:51] I'm always like that's magic. Like how'd you do that? They do it cut the cake. It'll be perfect
[00:32:56] Look like Pac-man after she cut and I cut it and it's like why'd you why'd you start eight degrees to the right and four
[00:33:03] Degrees down like it looks all kinds of weird
[00:33:07] Who are like gremlins and chaos monsters who cut the cake weird and I think all three of us are those yeah, well I try
[00:33:18] Yeah, I just I have given up Rosemary tries to coin the phrase
[00:33:22] Vi H VP very important Hope Valley people. It's less helpful. It takes longer
[00:33:29] VIP
[00:33:30] I'm assuming you're talking about people from Hope Valley already. It's just not helpful
[00:33:35] All the way around Dano. Yeah, that one. I couldn't believe we don't we just we just say VIP
[00:33:41] Not mr. Manager. We just say
[00:33:43] VIP is always say hey listen in the 12. Nope 15 years. I've been back
[00:33:49] I was in Columbia for a little bit back in downtown Greenville
[00:33:52] Getting supplies to make Asian food and the and some of the ingredients to make Asian food that my wife cooks
[00:33:59] So well, it has become easier in the last 15 years in 2009 and 10
[00:34:04] You couldn't regularly find that in Greenville in
[00:34:09] 2009 okay
[00:34:10] My one of my kids lives for soup dumplings to do that right or to get good soup dumplings here
[00:34:16] Sometimes not available unless they're frozen in
[00:34:20] 1920 in a day and a half
[00:34:23] Florence at the mercantile
[00:34:26] Manages to gather everything needed for a full authentic
[00:34:31] Chinese meal and that is crazy town. It's just
[00:34:36] Insanity that all of that is able to occur in 1920
[00:34:40] I know that the Asian population was way higher on the west coast in the 1920s than here
[00:34:45] But not in Hope Valley. I've seen one Asian person in Hope Valley
[00:34:49] There's just not the the ability to turn it around like that
[00:34:53] Give it a week do two weeks make it just try try your best to make it a little bit believable
[00:35:00] Um, I believe that's actually that's the name of the episode last week
[00:35:05] They're like hey these 11 people on the council have to all
[00:35:08] Unanimously agree that we need to do this merger and they talk like oh, that's gonna be a problem
[00:35:13] We could lose our school. I don't know and this week they talk like yeah, of course
[00:35:17] We were great like no big deal and they never have am I crazy there that I missed something. I
[00:35:23] Thought they agreed and then you talked me out of it Jax. I
[00:35:27] mean I
[00:35:29] agree with you in the sense that it's like I don't think they're like
[00:35:31] They're leaving a lot of loose ends and like don't make it a problem if you're not gonna make it a problem
[00:35:36] they are all hesitant they never specifically about the
[00:35:40] The school board and Elizabeth was like it's not gonna be a problem and then she looked at Nathan and I think that was our cue
[00:35:47] that
[00:35:48] The it's done. They never took a vote
[00:35:56] It's an eye it's overrated
[00:36:00] Look at each other's eyes and you know
[00:36:02] The Higgins character that we've not seen since season four he comes on screen looking
[00:36:09] Way younger
[00:36:11] Than he did in season four seven years ago
[00:36:14] Looking like his hairline is doing the opposite of receding. What what is that? Just descending?
[00:36:20] I don't know what it is. It's he's Benjamin Button. It turns out he's a different actor
[00:36:25] It turns out the guy that played him in season four is not the guy that played him in 11 because they look way different
[00:36:31] And I felt like they thought we weren't gonna notice it is what it is
[00:36:37] In Elizabeth's class they're learning about poison ivy for two straight days
[00:36:42] On the board is written. You have a whole chalkboard. All you've written is poisonous ivy. That's it for two days
[00:36:47] I don't learn about poison ivy. I don't think for half a second in school two full days on
[00:36:52] Hey this plant watch out for a chest to give you a rash could give you some people
[00:36:56] We won't some people will do you need to know let's get into the ins and outs of this for two straight days
[00:37:02] Guys as to as educators, do you thank you? She's not a good teacher, right?
[00:37:07] she's bad teacher, but also just bad teacher because
[00:37:12] First of all, you would never cover something like that for two days with a group of 18 year olds Opal as we you know
[00:37:19] Opal voted for William McKinley. I'm pretty sure but but also but also
[00:37:25] like
[00:37:26] You know, she's covering like the planets every year even though she has the same kids in her classroom. It's a mess
[00:37:32] I understand you have to differentiate. She's got five-year-olds and 15 year olds. That's really tough poison ivy for two days
[00:37:38] That's a lot of good men. That's right clear clearly
[00:37:42] serious problem out there at one point
[00:37:44] Lucas and Gowen are on the phone with this guy. They're trying to get him to participate I guess in the resort
[00:37:49] I don't remember but he says contracts can be broken especially if you're the governor
[00:37:54] What is he talking about, you know, I'm pretty sure first of all if you're the governor you shouldn't be doing business
[00:38:00] First of all and second of all, I'm pretty sure if you did break a legally binding document as a governor
[00:38:08] That would get you kicked out of office immediately. Like that would be the time when contracts 100%
[00:38:14] Matter and maybe I'm missing something they referenced earlier, but I just didn't it didn't hear it didn't see it. That's all I got
[00:38:21] It's time for
[00:38:24] No
[00:38:28] Jackson they're gonna kiss soon. Give me hope
[00:38:39] Penultimate episode it's coming I can feel it
[00:38:43] Bumming us out. I think you're exactly right Dan. I think they've got about 40 minutes. We're gonna have that spread out
[00:38:49] I need more I want more and I don't think I'm gonna get it of Rosemary and Bill
[00:38:54] My hope is that next week or the following week we get a full
[00:38:59] pro a PI episode just like we're really
[00:39:03] It's a detective like an old-timey detective show or so that I thought it'd be really fun
[00:39:07] I think that people would love it
[00:39:09] And it would also just take us out of
[00:39:12] This for a little bit. That'd be really nice
[00:39:15] my
[00:39:16] Valley is that they're not that they're still they still haven't kissed and as far as I know, there's nothing else
[00:39:23] I'd there's nothing else other than kissing. That's my understanding. So that's what I've been told so I'm just axel explain it to you
[00:39:31] Shoulder and hand touch what else is there?
[00:39:35] What else is there that they haven't done yet
[00:39:38] aside from going further than kissing but
[00:39:41] There's lots of things that you can do before you kiss
[00:39:45] Yeah, I feel like that's all right
[00:39:47] Thanks, what are they gonna do? Are they gonna hold are they gonna actually hold hands while walking on the street before they kiss I
[00:39:55] Think it's like even just like little intentional touches
[00:39:59] You're telling me I'm gonna get four episodes of intentional touches
[00:40:03] Before they kiss is that what you're saying?
[00:40:05] I don't think it's gonna look I don't think they're gonna wait till the penultimate episode
[00:40:08] But I think Jax has said that since before the season started
[00:40:10] She's sticking with her guns and if it works, then she called it from the beginning
[00:40:14] Intentional touches well called it from the beginning. I need to get a win just like last year you called it from
[00:40:23] Beginning Nathan Elizabeth I called it and that's why this year I'm shooting my shot just like Nathan shot his shot. That's right on Lucas
[00:40:32] That's exactly right bullets people. He shot his gun at Lucas and shot. It'd be so good
[00:40:38] I
[00:40:39] Every my hope is every week that we don't find out the shooter and we don't have a kiss between Nathan and Elizabeth
[00:40:45] Brings us a week closer to the possibility that Mountie Nathan Grant shot
[00:40:51] Lucas he shot him. I'm holding to it. It would be the best thing ever
[00:40:57] I would love this show so very much. Please don't let me down when calls the heart
[00:41:02] You're totally gonna let me down. My valley is of course
[00:41:05] Season 12 official it's happening. I'm happy for all those actors. Oh, we love it for that
[00:41:09] They they get to go back and hang out. They're clearly a big family and happy for all of them
[00:41:12] They're gonna get even more residual paychecks. Good cool
[00:41:14] Awesome, always have to see people working and enjoying what they do for me kind of a bummer kind of a bummer
[00:41:23] It is about time for the what's called my heart while Dan searching for the email that somebody has sent a

[00:42:00] I have it on good authority. She just goes by Beth. Okay
[00:42:04] Hello, Jax bran and Dan
[00:42:07] What's calling my heart is the fact that 20 years after getting my bachelor's degree and leaving the classroom as a student
[00:42:13] I've gone back to school full-time. Oh, that's awesome
[00:42:16] And in some ways it feels a bit like I'm in Elizabeth Thornton's classroom
[00:42:20] No
[00:42:20] I don't have classmates named Toby or Opal and there hasn't been a visit from a Mountie or the governor yet
[00:42:26] But I guess never say never instead of going the traditional college route again
[00:42:31] I decided to take advantage of a local technical college that offers a variety of one-year courses
[00:42:36] So I'm in a giant classroom with one instructor and ten other students at various places in their coursework
[00:42:42] If all goes according to plan, I'll be done next April with a new set of skills and as an accounting assistant
[00:42:47] Who knows maybe I'll find a Lee Coulter who needs someone dependable to run his lumberyard or saloon
[00:42:53] The the biggest downside to this whole school thing is that it will cut down
[00:42:57] Some on how much I can interact with my double-decker folks during the day
[00:43:01] But I have already let my instructor know that I'll be missing class in July to be in. Yeah that Greenville for Bramble Fest
[00:43:07] I cannot wait to see you there you three then
[00:43:11] Unless any of you were wanting to go to the beach with me sometime before
[00:43:15] Love you so much and I'm so excited to be with you soon
