Everyone in Hope Valley is so inspired! Rosemary is going to put on a play, and Elizabeth is considering sending her curriculum to publishers!

Elizabeth surprises Nathan with tickets to Union City to see the latest Buster Keaton picture, and the dude is pumped!!!

Rosemary is holding auditions for the play, but some of the performances are less than inspiring. So Elizabeth whispers an idea to her… it’s Bill. Rosemary tricks Bill into auditioning.

Allie and Oliver have a plan to save the salmon, and Lucas could use some good news.

After the movie in Union City, Nathan bumps into that guy Toddy from the poker game. He invites them over for a party, which Nathan is uncomfortable with because that would require them to go undercover as Danny and Dianne.

At play rehearsal, Ava shows up and shows off her acting skills, but Rosemary doesn't want her around.

Back at the party, Danny and Dianne are having a great time, doing the Charleston and whatnot. What could go wrong? Well, when Toddy and his wife start asking questions about their love story, their stories aren’t exactly in sync. It seems like Toddy is a bit skeptical of them, and he makes them go on stage to sing.

Lucas goes to talk to Edie about Allie’s salmon plan, and it’s clear these two are digging each other. She ends up showing up later at his office for a "game of cards." But Lucas knows she’s up to something. Turns out she doesn't think the idea he pitched is a good one, and she encourages him not to move forward with it.

Lee talks to Rosemary about the play and tries to get her to be honest about her hesitation with Ava. It seems like Rosemary is starting to come to terms with the fact that she might not be the hot new actress anymore.

Nathan finally gets Toddy to talk about some shady stuff he has. It might be just what Nathan needs.

Fiona ends up selling her spa.

The episode ends with Elizabeth and Rosemary drinking tea and toasting to new adventures.

[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_03] Hi, I'm Bram and I love When Calls the Heart. Hi, I'm Jax and I like When Calls the Heart. I'm Dan and I despise When Calls the Heart and this is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast. Deck The Hallmark, it's this podcast. And Friends host this podcast. We hope you like this jolly podcast. Oh yeah. Yep, yep, yep. Hi everybody, it's time. When Calls the Heart time. Big episode.

[00:00:38] [SPEAKER_04] Big episode. A game changing episode of When Calls the Heart. Big energy. Big energy. We broke news to Jax right before going on air about the big interview that Kevin McGarry and Aaron Craiko did. That's right. Where Kevin McGarry says at some point this season something big is gonna happen. I would have thought he was doing a bit because McGarry does those from time to time but then Craiko joins him and is like no, it's like really serious. It's very intense I believe is what she said. Yeah. And like to the tie. And they basically, yeah,

[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_03] it's 1921 remember that. So like I don't know what it could be. Aaron, you did the deep dive on the big hitters of 1921.

[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_00] You did. Oh yeah. What are the things that we could be looking forward to seeing? The big events of 1921. Yeah. So when I saw that and they made a point to say that it was 1921. That's right. And we know historically this show does not follow any reality of a timeline. So I got excited. My first thought was World War I and maybe Nathan gets drafted but it was just too late. Yeah. I know Dan. Okay. I said my first like initially was like war. He's going off to war. Come on guys.

[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00] So then I just Googled 1921 Canada. There's a whole Wikipedia page. So here Jax are some potential plot lines you could be seeing in the next two to three episodes. All right. I mean, yeah, they're going to need to start soon. Prohibition ends in Canada. Okay. We segregated schools in Canada. Uh-oh. Sure they're tackling that. The Communist Party of Canada was founded. Yeah. Gowan's a commie.

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_00] Canada did elect their first woman to parliament. Okay. Kayla Wallace maybe. Um, there was a tuberculosis outbreak, which I don't think I put in the Facebook group. Um, the Ottawa senators won the Stanley Cup. So maybe Nathan leaves the Mounties, joins the hockey league, wins the Stanley Cup. Um, I feel like there's one more. They're not doing any of this. But, um, as I was typing out all these events, I was like, if they did any one of these, you could maybe get me back and I would start watching again.

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_00] Cause they all sound so fascinating as opposed to what we're getting now, which is nothing.

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_04] I gotta be honest. After hearing that interview, I, for the first time in a long time, I had a little bit of a excitement to watch the episode. And that was so stupid on my part. Like, why would they release that if it wasn't going to happen this week?

[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_03] I don't know. Knowing them, it'll be the cliffhanger of the season. And it's not going to actually be a part of this season.

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_01] If she said it's really serious, I feel like it's gotta be TB.

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_04] Or it's gotta be none of those. And, you know, I don't know. It's just gotta be somebody dies. I have no idea.

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_03] Can you imagine, like with all the silliness that has been this season, there's a three episode tuberculosis arc?

[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_04] I can't, you can't. You can't do that. You shouldn't. You shouldn't. You shouldn't. Uh-uh. You shouldn't. It would catch people by such surprise. But you know what? Here's the thing is.

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00] Oh, insulin was also discovered. So it would be a diabetes.

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_04] Also, Jax, and this is for you too, as much as that episode last week was a nothing burger, if you had any doubt in your mind that the user reviews are being driven by Team Nathan and McGarry's only, that episode was the highest IMDb user rated episode of the season.

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_04] So if you think, if you think for a second that IMDb user ratings aren't just almost all McGarry's, when Lucas gets, you know, when Lucas proposes to Elizabeth, it goes straight to the floor. When we have whatever the F last week's episode was, and it gets the highest of the season. Like if there was any doubt, let it be put to rest right now.

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_04] Now, what's happening on, you know, who is moving the needle and which fan base cares more?

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_03] Well, I'm just impressed that enough McGarry fans had enough time between all the replays to go and leave a review.

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_01] They were, you know what? I knew what you were going to say.

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_04] They got to remain in the comfort of their own homes. They did to leave those reviews.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01] Oh, no, no. I was going to make a really dirty joke that was, you know, about what they're doing with their hands. Anyway, I want everyone to know it wasn't mean. It was just, it wasn't mean. It was just sexual.

[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_04] I love that you could not say it though. That's my favorite part.

[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_01] I realized stopping it sounded like it could have been a mean comment. Yeah.

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_04] Yes.

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_01] And it wasn't mean. It was just inappropriate. Yeah.

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_04] A little mean. Unlike last episode.

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_01] I mean, nothing wrong with that.

[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_04] No, nothing wrong. Nothing wrong.

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_01] I mean, nothing wrong with, I would, all I'm saying, no, I'm getting red thinking about it. But all I'm saying is, I'm, I'm, I get it. I get it, T, Nathan. I'm right with you there. You know. Yeah.

[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_04] Jack's in a tough spot here. Tough spot.

[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_01] Sheila thinks that Jack is going to get sick, baby Jack.

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, interesting.

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_01] I think that's going to work too.

[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_04] Is he going to get tuberculosis? If they, I will say this. You want to talk about a bold swing from when it comes to heart. They kill baby Jack. Holy moly. If it's not killed. Yeah. Yeah. I gotta be honest with you. I'm actually with Dan on this one. First of all, before I get to you, let me finish my point. No. Nope. They're not going to kill him. And if they don't kill him, if they don't kill him, then this isn't any different than any of these other almost death storylines.

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_04] And it doesn't matter if they have him get tuberculosis and kill him. Oh my gosh.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01] Yep. Yep. Yep. All right. Now. How you doing girl? Hey Jack. How you doing?

[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_03] I'm working on how I would die. Like on screen.

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_04] Could you give me, do you have three for me? I got three. You got three. Okay. All right. This is the one that work our way up to your, the thing you're most considering doing. We're going to start with the third one right now. All right. This is baby Jack dying of tuberculosis. Take one action. Did you just miss a question on a game show?

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_06] See, that's what I thought too. Yeah. Yep.

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. We've got it. We, we could do better than that. And I think we all know.

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_01] Honestly, Dan, what I'll say is I thought that was a compelling first take baby Jack. Thank you. And we're going to, we're going to be able to work with that.

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_04] Let's do a few more just in case. I think we got it, but let's just do a few more just in case.

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_01] Just for fun.

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_04] Just for fun. Just for fun.

[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_01] This is a fun one. Yeah. Yeah. All right.

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_04] This is number two. Baby Jack dying of tuberculosis. Season 12 one calls the heart action. I'm back on board. If, if, if baby Jack dies in that manner.

[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_01] You like that one. It's a spider and almost sounds like you're just sniffling. This is number one. And not so sustained. It needs to be shorter baby Jack. Okay. Number one in the clubhouse. Soft.

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_04] Right here. Here we go. Baby Jack dying of tuberculosis. Season 12. When calls the heart. Action.

[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_01] My, mama.

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_04] Oh my God.

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_01] Yes. That's just cut, cut, cut. We got it.

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_04] That was really good. Jack's reporting live from all the McGarry's houses. Uh, um, um, um, um, if, if they did the last one there, baby Jack, um, that would be brutal. That would be really brutal. Um, I will say there's people are going to be upset about this, us doing a bit about baby Jack dying, but it's one of my favorite things we've done here a long time. So thank you. Baby Jack. Yeah.

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_01] And that was a really nice last take. I thought it honestly hit me the, the mama at the end. And then, yeah, you don't need to gild the Lily too much though.

[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_03] You don't always gild that Lily. Yeah. Uh, there's been a lot of Lilies gilded over the last week. Uh, let's, uh, let's get to when calls the heart season 12, episode seven called star shine. Ooh, close.

[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_01] Jack's Brits. Brits. I love Brits.

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_03] Oh, very close. 25 is going to premiere and one, a little something like that is back to Sunday nights. Everybody put a little something like this. Uh, everyone in hope Valley is so inspired right now. Rosemary is going to put on a play and Elizabeth is considering sitting on her curriculum to be published. Whoa. Woo.

[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_03] Uh, Elizabeth surprises Nathan with tickets to union city to see the latest Buster Keaton picture. And the dude is pumped. He's a big Buster head. He freaking loves this guy. Uh, Rosemary is holding auditions for the play, but some of the performances are less than inspiring. So, um, Elizabeth whispers an idea to her. The idea being Bill. Bill Avery. What if Bill was in the play?

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_03] Rosemary then tricks Bill into auditioning and he crushes it. Uh, Allie and Oliver have a plan to save the salmon. Uh, you remember the salmon and the wildlife and all that stuff. So they bring it to Lucas. Uh, and, and Lucas could use some good news right now. So he's, uh, he's all ears after the, uh, the flick in union city, Nathan bumps into that guy Toddy from the poker game. Remember when he went undercover? Um, this guy's like, Hey dad, daddy boy.

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_03] Uh, he invites them over to a party that they're having, which Nathan is uncomfortable with because that would involve Elizabeth going undercover with him. Uh, but he basically bullies them into, uh, agreeing to come in as Danny and Diane.

[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_04] Uh, Danny Diane. Pretty good.

[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_03] Uh, at play rehearsal, Ava shows up. Remember Ava, the new, she's new in town. Yeah, she's new in town.

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_01] New in town.

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_03] And she's lying. Well, yeah, it seems like it. Well, she got her suitcase. Well, she's a perfect actor. Uh, you might say. Uh, she shows off her acting skills, but Rosemary doesn't want it. She don't want it. Uh, back at the party, Danny and Diane, if you will, are having a great time doing the Charleston. Luckily, they learned it earlier this season. Uh, what could go wrong? Well, Toddy and his wife start having, uh, conversations with each of them individually, asking them about their love story.

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_03] Their stories aren't exactly in sync. It seems like Toddy is a bit skeptical of them for a second and makes them go on stage to sing their song. Uh, Lucas goes to talk to Edie about Ali's salmon plan. And it's clear that these two are digging each other. She ends up showing up later to his office for a game of cards. Okay. Mm-hmm. Um, but Lucas knows that she's up to something because she has a tell.

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_03] That's a, uh, poker term. That's a poker term. That's right. Uh, turns out she doesn't actually think the salmon idea is a good one. Uh, she has her reasons and she encourages him not to move on with trying to make this plan into a reality. Kill the salmon. Kill the salmon. Save the world. Uh, Lee talks to Rosemary and tries to get her to be honest about her hesitations with Ava. It seems like Rosemary is starting to come to terms with the fact that she might not be the hot new thing anymore in regards to acting.

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_03] And that's always tough. It's tough. Um, they go on stage. I'm sorry. Uh, Nathan, Elizabeth, they go on stage and, uh, they sing their song. And then afterwards, Nathan's talking to Toddy and finally gets Toddy to admit to having his hands on some shady stuff. Some gold stuff that seemed to have been, you know, this whole stolen and the railroad and whatnot. It might be just what Nathan needs to finally figure this one out.

[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_03] Uh, Fiona, uh, with a lot of hesitation. You know, she's got a, this guy who's been pursuing her for a while. Yeah. She's finally like thinking about maybe giving into that and just getting married because she'll do more good. Well, she ends up selling the spa. So it seems like that's a salon. Yeah. So it ends, it seems like she's heading in that direction. Um, the episode ends with Elizabeth and Rosemary drinking tea and toasting the new adventures. And that my friends was.

[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_03] Wind Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 7 and Dance the Night Away. We did it. Uh, let's take a quick break. We'll come back. We'll break this episode down here on Deck the Hallmark.

[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_04] Not gonna make Lil' Jack sick. You can't do that. I, well, actually considering the interview context, Sheila normally really like sharp on these things. I think they're probably right because the way McGarry words it is, is something about their, like she, he includes the relationship of Nathan and Elizabeth. That makes actually now a lot of sense. Um, I don't know.

[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_04] Maybe the 1921 through tuberculosis is maybe a bit of a stretch, but I think. It, it, that, I mean, I think Sheila's onto something there. I've been thinking about it since we did the bit. And I, I think that obviously they're not going to kill baby Jack, but it makes sense. Maybe that would be intense and that would be a big shock to their relationship in general.

[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_03] Maybe Lil' Jack is just sick of him.

[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah, could be.

[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_03] Got him.

[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_01] You're saying that he might have, yeah, that he might have diabetes since insulin was developed. Sure.

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_03] It could be, it could be diabetes. It could be tuberculosis. Yeah.

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_04] Still a stretch to 1921. They've never cared about like medicinal properties or, or when sickness has happened. Like they skipped the Spanish flu. Sorry. For crying out loud.

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_01] They did. They skipped it. Oh, it's in the description for 10 that he gets sick. Sheila just said.

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, okay. Okay. So it's not even, she's, she's just. So it is what it is. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. It is what it is. So we know. Now it's, now it's. Now we know. Now we're back to square one. Show sucks. Got it. Cool. Glad we did it.

[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_03] Well, let's see how they handle it. Okay. Okay. Let's get to the hot take is where we share our thoughts on this episode. Jax, what'd you think?

[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_01] Guys, look. Look.

[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_03] Okay. We're looking. Look.

[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_01] You're going to, you're going to disagree with me and that's fine. And I'm excited to hear your takes. But for Valentine's Day, I can't imagine an episode that would have appealed to me more. Or the importance of being earnest. Are you kidding me? It's one of my favorite plays. Very exciting. Give us a scene.

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_03] Give us a scene.

[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_01] Oh, um, actually, hold on. Okay. I was in it and I'll tell you who I played in a second. Okay. I'll do a little, I was in it. Well, it was a little devastating.

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_05] Oh gosh. Okay.

[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_01] I'll tell you. All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That's his. Or I really don't see anything romantic in proposing. It is very romantic to be in love, but there is nothing romantic about a definite proposal. Why? One may be accepted. One usually is, I believe. Then the excitement is all over.

[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_02] Pretty good.

[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_01] Algernon. Guys, in college, I was so excited. Yeah. It was my senior year.

[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_06] Oh no.

[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_01] I was a bit of a star in the theater department, small school. And I was like, oh my gosh, I'm going to get to play Gwendolyn or Cecily. And the importance being earnest roles I've always wanted to play. Guess who I play?

[00:16:20] [SPEAKER_04] Not. Um, uh, uh, Argamemnon. Algernon? Uh, Alistair White. Um, Cheryl. Cheryl.

[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_01] No. They decided to do a gender-reverse version. Oh wow. So let me show you. And I got to play the swashbuckling Algernon Moncrease. Oh wow. Now that is before, that is before I had my wig on.

[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_03] File it out to be such DTH. Look at that. Oh, you're getting a text too.

[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_01] That is before I had my wig and all the other accoutrements on. I couldn't find, um, the one. Facebook's doing weird things. But I mean, honestly, it was, it was a spectacular experience to do that. And I, I love Oscar Wilde. I love the importance of being earnest. Um, I'll get into my weight watts later, but thank you One Calls the Heart. And then role-playing? Are you kidding me?

[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_01] Elizabeth and Nathan, like this for me is, you know, take out a romantic dinner. I don't need the movies. I need a role-play in an escape room. And that is, that is, you got me. So on like, yeah, role-play is foreplay. And I was, this episode, I didn't even care. I was like, they're just giving me everything I want. I don't even know if it's good TV, but it doesn't matter because I'm enjoying it.

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_03] There you go. I wrote down role-play is foreplay. So I'll let you, like. You're going to let Jax have that one? Okay. Crazy. I'll take your word for it. I'll, uh. You thought it was going to be me, but I'll let Jax take it.

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_04] I had to call you Agamemnon.

[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_03] I know. I know. And I.

[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_01] Also, Agamemnon is also a character in Greek tragedy. Yes, I know. So I love that you're, I love that you're like.

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_04] I'm trying.

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_01] I'm complaining. Oh, that was intentional. That's why it was so funny. Yes. Yes, Jax. Very good.

[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_04] But for, it was a funny name for Bran who didn't know that. I don't know anything.

[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_03] It also worked for you. Anyone's talking about it.

[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_01] It worked for me on every level.

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_03] But I will role play like I do know what you're talking about.

[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_01] And go, Agamemnon.

[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_03] This episode was fine. They dance. They flirt. They have fun. I hope you dance. That's all you can really, that's literally all I can really hope for at this point in time. This episode, I wouldn't say it was boring. I felt like there was stuff going on. And that's nice. And yay. Dano?

[00:18:43] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. So if last week's episode is the, what is going on? This show is so terrible. What are we doing? Kind of. I hate this. This is a much more pleasant version of I hate this. There isn't, you know, they're still doing kind of whatever they want. But if you're going to decide to make this the Elizabeth and Nathan show instead of When Calls the Heart, this is a much more pleasant way to do it. I mean, they learned how to film in Kaleidoscope, which was fun.

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_04] They did a great Gatsby scene. You have some fun role playing in the city with Nathan and Elizabeth. Heavy on the Nathan and Elizabeth. Do I, as soon as they started trying to do something, I kind of hated it more actually. Like, I didn't buy the, like, backstory and trying to get this dude to, like, tell him what kind of coin he had. Like, that stuff disinterested me.

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_04] When they're just in the city dressed up and, like, just looking at each other like they just don't want to be anywhere else, that's fine. Like, there's nothing wrong with that. The problem is, is we get sprinkled in the salmon plot line. Oh, no. Rosemary can't possibly be bothered to solve a cold case, which is all we've wanted because she's going to put on a show. Hated that.

[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_01] Dan, come on. The theater, please. The theater. The theater's more important than cold cases.

[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_04] How dare you? Last season, Jax, all we said was we wanted Bill and Rosemary on the case, and they can't even do that for us.

[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_03] I know she's doing the importance of being earnest, so I'm at a crossroads. But they also, they tricked us a little bit because she comes in there and I thought she was going to get back to the case. And then it was all one big trick to just get Bill to audition. That's right. And that made me sad because I want that.

[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_04] But, like, once again, sprinkled in there, Rosemary realizing, like, she's having a bit of a midlife crisis. And that is also good television. So, like, there's a few things in here that I was like, hey, you know, for as bad as this season has been, which I think it's unequivocally been the worst season of this show that's ever happened, maybe two, season two with Hamilton. But season two with Hamilton is only six episodes long, so you can just knock it out real quick, even though they're an hour and a half each.

[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_04] I think that's right, if I'm wrong with that, whatever. This season has been terrible. And so in the landscape of season 12, which hasn't had, in my opinion, a good episode, and it is rudderless. It's a rudderless ship. We don't know where it's going. This version of rudderless ship is a lot more pleasant and was not nearly as boring and tedious as last week's episode.

[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_04] So I guess I kind of agree with you guys to the extent that I can on this show. This is a better use of our time in these characters than I've seen all year. So take that for what it's worth.

[00:21:33] [SPEAKER_03] It's time for All the Feels. We're talking about what in this episode gave us feels. Jax?

[00:21:38] [SPEAKER_01] I have a weird little one that, well, I have a few. But when the bad guy's wife is asking Elizabeth how she and Nathan met, her interest in her was so genuine. And she was just giving such girls' girls' vibes that I was just really taken with her. I thought it was so sweet and so adorable. And I was just like, I love this character. I love that she cares so much about how they met. And look, I'm interested in Alliever. That's the ship name.

[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_01] The salmon thing isn't as interesting to me. Alliever? Alliever. Alliever. It's not bad. No. Alliever.

[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_04] Can we just say Allie? Because that's Ollie and Allie? Can we just say Allie and say it's a name?

[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_01] We could have our own ship name if you're shipping it.

[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_03] Are you shipping Allie and Alliever?

[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_04] I don't care. Dan's shipping them. He's thought about this. I'm definitely not saying Alliever ever again after that one time I just said it. That's the end.

[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_01] It does sound really interesting rolling off your tongue, especially Alliever.

[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_04] I'm not doing it. Put a little extra stank on it.

[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_01] Alliever. Alliever. It sounds like Jack Wagner trying to do an English accent. Okay, Bran, you take it away.

[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_03] Well, we've talked about how this show has too many characters and there's too much going on. And Elizabeth is so rarely on screen now that it was really nice to have an episode where the majority of it was just Elizabeth and Nathan. Can I ask you this?

[00:23:12] [SPEAKER_04] The amount of screen time for Gowan this season or the amount of screen time for Elizabeth and Nathan this episode, what's higher?

[00:23:22] [SPEAKER_03] Oh, this episode.

[00:23:23] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. Gowan has been on screen. Not even close. Gowan has been on screen less in seven episodes than Elizabeth and Nathan got this week. And that is the not feels. That's the downer of this is you're right. I don't disagree with you. But Gowan is just a cameo. Sure. It's crazy. And he's the best actor on this program. Yes. He's the best one.

[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_03] You and I from your lips. But at the end of the day, this is something that I've been wanting. I just like I just want I just want the main characters to have main character time on screen. And I really felt like we got that in this episode. And that was nice. Dan?

[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. Kevin McGarry, better singer than I thought he would.

[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_06] Yeah.

[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_04] That is my feel. Like he just strikes me as someone that's like, really, don't make me sing. Not a fake. Don't make me sing. Like a really like, I'm good to do other things and have some, you know, dry, smart aleck comments. But I'm not here to sing. Good singer. Good singer. Kevin McGarry.

[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_01] You clearly haven't seen him in Kayla Wallace duet on Christmas Eve. I certainly have not.

[00:24:31] [SPEAKER_03] On Christmas Eve.

[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_01] This was years ago. I don't know if they do it every year, but they sing little ditties together.

[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_04] Although I did start Taylor Sheridan's Landman first two episodes that Kayla Wallace is in. And they are wasting her at this point. She could have been played by, at this point, very early on, she could have been played by literally anyone. Like they're giving her no anything really poorly written. Like I just, I'm like, what? Yeah. Real bad. But I'm hoping it'll turn around. I'm hoping there's something about her character that'll, because even it just, yeah. Disappointing.

[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_03] Let's take a break. We'll come back and we'll get to the way what's in the hopes and valleys here on Deck the Hallmark. Welcome back, everybody. We're talking When Calls the Heart, season 12. Episode 7. Let's dance our way over to the way what. It is where we talk about what in this episode made us go way what. And I'll start with you, Jax.

[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_01] Guys, are you kidding me? Why is Ben Rosenbaum not playing Algernon? Here was the trouble with this.

[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, here we go.

[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_01] Here we go. As someone who. As someone who.

[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_04] Has played Algernon in the theater. Has played Algernon.

[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_01] And as a dialect coach. No, here's the thing. Here's the thing. Ben Rosenbaum and the way it's being played sounds like someone who can actually do a really good British dialect, but just needs a couple of things to switch it. Like his bad British dialect is actually like, oh no, he's someone who has it. I can tell. It just needs a little adjustment. And then Jack Wagner sounds like someone who's really trying to do a good one, but can't. And that is confusing. And it's not. The thing is, I don't think either one of them were supposed to be chef's kiss brilliant.

[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_01] So this isn't a knock on Jack Wagner. It's, you know, it's an Amdram, you know, Amdram.

[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_06] It's an Amdram. And I brought Amdram situation.

[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_01] So like, I guess a comedy, but I get it. Amcom. But I was just like, Amcom. But I was just confused by this.

[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_04] And this is tough because these are your two favorite people on the show.

[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_01] These are my two favorite people. And I don't want to pit them against each other. Also, Algernon is not a Jack Wagner part. If anything, like Jack Worthing would be who he would play because that's the older character. I don't understand what.

[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_04] Bran also said that to me. It was a clear Jack Worthing situation. And we all, and they blew it. I was pissed. They blew it. It was unbelievable.

[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_01] Guys, also, I know you're saying that she's like feeling like she's having a midlife crisis. But why isn't she thrilled that she has an actress in Ava? That way Ava can play Cecily Cardew and she can play Gwendolyn Fairfax. And she can mentor her. And I'm just, I was like, what is going on here?

[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_04] I will say, I did get all about Eve feels kind of in this whole thing with her and with this new girl who's like, we seems like she's all in the up and up, but we know she's not. I would actually have loved to see her go in and then somehow steal the spotlight completely. Like, great. But that would involve really good writing.

[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_01] You know, and I wish we had more time. Yeah.

[00:27:38] [SPEAKER_04] I wish we had more time. Wait a minute. No, I don't wish we had more time. God, stop it.

[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_01] My final wait, what is that when we, of course, as you're mentioning Gowan and Joseph, they have this beautiful scene when Joseph is singing that beautiful every time I feel the spirit and it's over. It feels like it's over before it began. And I would say a little less salmon, a little more spirituals. And I think most people who watch the show.

[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_04] If anybody is watching the show and listening to this podcast and is wants more of the salmon storyline, I need you to email me immediately because I have to talk to you. That is, I can't imagine that being the case. It is, it's the worst. It's the worst of the worst. It's worse than the thing last year. They're arguing about the deed on where the property line was.

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_03] I, I can't. Brian? Brian? Yeah. You mentioned, Dan, the scene at the party. They, great Gatsby it up. We get kaleidoscope. Yes. We're 12 seasons into this show. Yeah. And this is the first time I have seen them make a choice like this visually. Yes. And it was so like, great.

[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_04] Get their kaleidoscopic out. They're doing it.

[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_03] Great on them. They did some cool like overheads, panning, big swings. Why? Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, I'm not upset about it. But while it was happening, I was like, why are they doing this now?

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_04] If for 12 years you were brought a cold Pop-Tart and then all of a sudden someone brought you in a homemade pastry, you would be like, what? Get that trash away from me. Give me the Pop-Tart. This is interesting. Interesting. I can't say I'm not surprised because I'm very surprised, but what are you doing?

[00:29:28] Yeah.

[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_03] And like, let's just, what if we, what if like the care and the planning that went into some of these shots in this party scene that at the end of the day don't really matter that much? What if we did that all for all, for all? For all. What if we did it for all? What if we did? Because if nothing else, this scene showed me that they, oh, they can really do some cool stuff.

[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_03] They can do some impressive shots and camera work here. That's really, really fun on them. But I was left both impressed and confused. As to why. It was interesting. Dan?

[00:30:10] [SPEAKER_04] Yes. I think that is the, I just decided to give it to him because I was so excited to see some filmmaking that I just didn't. Let's give it to him. But you're right. It is very, very weird to see it in this show. Hey, the scene with Gowan and Canning, Reverend Canning that you talked about.

[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_06] Yeah.

[00:30:29] [SPEAKER_04] What is happening in that scene? What's like, what's the point? Like he asked Gowan to help him do something.

[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_01] I think it's asking Gowan to be in the choir. And then Gowan says no. Bring him back to the spiritual path.

[00:30:44] [SPEAKER_04] And that's it. I think so. Are we, have we just decided they don't have anything for either of those, the Canfield, Reverend Canfield or Gowan to do?

[00:30:54] [SPEAKER_03] Well, it's confusing because Reverend Canfield has this whole thing with his daughter and what he's, you know, the journey that they're trying to figure out for her next stage of life. Like that, that's his storyline this season.

[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_04] It's getting to the point where Gowan is my weight what every week? Because it's like, are somebody in like some maniacal room just spinning a wheel of weird ideas for Gowan to have one scene in?

[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_03] This week, Gowan has to watch someone sing.

[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_04] This week, it's hazelnuts. Everybody get the hazelnuts out. Like, I don't, like, this is, and I said this while we were watching the show, Brian could attest. I honestly believe Martin Cummings could be in the motion pictures. I think, I honestly think, and that is not, I'm not here to slight anyone else in the show, but if you had to ask me one actor who could play a significant role on the big screen, it's Martin Cummings.

[00:31:45] [SPEAKER_04] Like, he is capable and has that gravitas to be like in major motion pictures. And he is in a scene a week on this fledgling 12th season Canadian show from 100 years ago. And there is not a through line. Like, he used to be the big bad. There's no through line on this guy. Choir, hazelnuts, helping the governor.

[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_04] I don't, if someone could help me a little on what he's doing, that would help me a lot. Because I, in my head, I just don't even, it was hard for me to track what was being said in that scene because I was like, oh, it's Gallen. I wonder what he's getting into. And then it's like meeting that dude at the party that tells you what he does and you immediately forget what he does. You know, I'm in finance, but you know, in this spreadsheet where you go and they track earnings, but it's the dividends of those earnings that go out to the companies.

[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_04] And I go, yeah, the whole time. And as soon as he walks away, they're like, hey, what does Brad do? And I'm like, God, I don't, I don't know. And I'm really sorry. I wish I did. I'm proud of him. There was something with dividends. He makes more money than me. That's what I do know. But dividends is all I got. I lost it. I lost me at dividends. That's what's happening with Gallen. What's happening with Gallen is, is I don't know what he's doing here or anywhere where he could be elsewhere acting in other things.

[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_04] And we love Brad. We love Brad. Dude, Brad's a great guy. He's a great guy. And somebody has to take those spreadsheets with the earnings and the dividends and the yield. All of it. Yeah.

[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_02] Big yield.

[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_04] Big yield. I don't. So it's what's interesting is Jack's got feels from the scene where that woman is talking to Elizabeth about how her and Nathan met and they're, you know, but they're not her and Nathan. They're Danny and Delilah, whatever. And Danny and Diane, little diddy. Uh, that I was, I did not have feels.

[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_04] I was certain that her and her husband knew that they, that they were imposters and were splitting them up to ask those questions to reveal that. And then Nathan and Elizabeth were going to be in some trouble. I was certain of it. And then they get them back together and they ask them the questions and it all falls apart. And then somehow they buy it. They buy the story and they let them sing the song. And that's, that's it.

[00:34:15] [SPEAKER_04] Or what it, which was crazy.

[00:34:16] [SPEAKER_01] I hear that. And that would have been cool. But let me tell you why I knew that wasn't it. Because that's almost like too sophisticated for her to be good at it like that. Like good at it. Like just a drunk girl. Like, and then that turn would have been extremely satisfying of her being like, I thought you said blah, blah, blah. Would have been great. Yeah. Would have been great. That actually would have been a super satisfying turn, but I could tell she just had a pure heart.

[00:34:40] [SPEAKER_04] Good. Good for you. I'm glad you could tell. Love is love. Jax. Thanks for bringing that up. I just think that it, that their story, like anyone, anyone drunk or sober listening to Nathan and Elizabeth trying to make their stories of meeting in high school and meeting through a bachelor auction makes sense would immediately go, you're lying. They would immediately go, that doesn't know. It's a no for me. There's no way that what you're saying is true.

[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_04] You're lying. And the fact that this big bad guy doesn't figure it out is crazy. I had a big weight wet there. Actually, those are my only two that weren't covered by you guys. Well, there you go.

[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_03] There you have it. Some ropes and values. We were talking about what in this episode gave us hope for the future and or is bumming us out. Jax.

[00:35:27] [SPEAKER_01] Look, I have a lot of hope. We have whatever's going on with Fiona. I think we'll learn more soon. It looks like she's about to make a big decision about the man who's supporting her, her future. And she's just sold the salon. So I'm hopeful about what we're going to see with her. I don't know, actually.

[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_03] Someone's going to comment. If I've seen Hallmark before, someone's going to come in there and try to tear down the whole thing. James Brolin. They're going to build condos. They're going to build condos there.

[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_01] James Brolin and Melissa Gilbert.

[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_04] Have we thought about mixed use? Also, that was a callback, Jax, to the end of the first season where James Brolin gets off the stage, Coach, and he's in the show for 10 seconds.

[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_01] That's all he was in for, right?

[00:36:13] [SPEAKER_04] And he was supposed to be a judge to get the whole thing.

[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_01] That was the entirety of his filmography on One Falls of Heart, right?

[00:36:20] That's it.

[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_01] It would be amazing. He could come back. Guys, also, look, Edie and Lucas, I'm seeing that chemistry. I want to see more of it. What's bumming me out? Look, where is Lily? Where is Lily? Who's Lily? The cute little girl who is Faith's young child, young boy.

[00:36:43] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah, no, of course.

[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_01] It's too much. She thought she had an acting job and then, so happy for you, Andrea Brooks. If you're having a baby or that had a baby, congrats. But now this little girl's out of an acting job, give her something to do.

[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_04] Have her roam the streets asking for money.

[00:37:00] [SPEAKER_01] I mean, why not? Yeah.

[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_03] Make it interesting. Yeah. Make it interesting. Yeah. I mean, my hope is that this whole undercover thing will continue to bring some sort of entertainment. So far, it has. And so I'm hopeful that it will continue to do so.

[00:37:21] [SPEAKER_03] So my Valley is kind of like as excited as I am about getting more Nathan and Elizabeth. If I'm a Team Lucas fan, I'm very sad at the use in which Lucas has had, have been used this season.

[00:37:46] [SPEAKER_03] And it's like just enough to where it's like, oh, yes, he's still on the show, but like not enough to get like to continue to pull me back in if I'm only showing up for Lucas. And so I think that the chemistry with ED is dynamite, and I hope that we get more of that because either use them or lose them.

[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_04] But I think to your point, it would be one thing if he was governor in Capital City and we only got this much of him. Yes. They brought him back to Hope Valley. Kicked out the hazelnuts. And he still is doing nothing. You may as well keep him doing governor stuff. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. Use them or lose them. Yeah. So last week, were you done?

[00:38:31] [SPEAKER_03] I'm done.

[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_04] Last week, my Valley was like, it can't get any worse than this. We're in the, you know, my hope is it can't get any. And it did get better, but we don't have any through line still, which I think now is the latest in a season of When Calls the Heart where we don't have a through line of like, what's the expectation for the big arc of the season? I don't, we don't have one. And, and so it's fun. This was a definitely a more entertaining episode of television.

[00:39:00] [SPEAKER_04] And if that's what we're going to do every week, then, then fine. I mean, I guess that's easier to watch, but there's no, none of these threads are really coming together. Um, I, I guess they're going to solve this cold case and, uh, that's fine. And everyone pretty much is involved at this point with that, but, and we're going to save the salmon, I'm sure. And that's a big deal. And Rosemary is going to put on a play, but we don't have any sort of like, will they, won't they? We don't have an engagement. We don't have an oil plot line.

[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_04] We don't have a miners thing. We don't have any of the things that normally at least. And you know, wind calls the heart is not constantly driving a plot forward, but there's usually something. And we are, we have five episodes left and there's nothing. So that's disappointing.

[00:39:45] [SPEAKER_01] Wait, so Dan, just to ask you, I mean, this could be for both of you. Do you think we're going to like really see the play come to fruition or is it something that gets like lost?

[00:39:54] [SPEAKER_04] I have no idea. I know that the hazelnuts seem to be lost. I think the play will be over and done with at the end of next episode. Yeah, the play's got two episode three max shelf life on that. But what I think is, is that the last two episodes are going to be about the train robbery. I think that's going to take center stage. And then maybe at the end, you have a proposal from Nathan.

[00:40:22] [SPEAKER_04] That would be my guess is train robbery, because we have all kinds of suspects right now. We don't, but train robbery is going to be the main thing. And then little baby. Baby Jack's going to get sick. Baby Jack's going to get sick in 10 last two. We're going to get him. Well, train robbery. And we're going to, Nathan's going to propose. They made it through this whole thing with baby Jack being sick. They know they're meant to be together. Nathan's going to propose. I think that is definitely where we're heading. I don't think any of that is a through line.

[00:40:50] [SPEAKER_04] I don't think there's not, I mean, like, I guess Nathan, the courtship of Nathan and Elizabeth, I guess. I just feel like this has been six seasons of this. We need another three or four seasons out of that. Yeah, at least.

[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. Thank God we can do that. It's time for the What's Calling My Heart. It's where somebody emails in something that's calling their heart, bringing them a little bit of joy or something like that, to helloaddictohomer.com. Dan, who do we have?

[00:41:10] [SPEAKER_04] We have Diana Van Ness emailing us in. She says, Hello, DTH. What's Calling My Heart? This podcast I've been listening since 2019 and love laughing along with you guys. I started watching When Calls the Heart in November because I wanted to listen to these episodes of yours. In December, I welcomed a sweet baby girl, and I've been able to binge watch a lot of TV since then. I'm barely interested in the dumb show, but only hanging on so I can listen to you guys and empathize with you. Half the time I'm falling asleep, changing diapers,

[00:41:39] [SPEAKER_04] feeding, but honestly not mad that I miss most of the episodes, just trying to make it through. Another thing calling my heart, Chesapeake Shores. This is another show I've binged over the last month or so, and I'd love if you all would review that show if you ever have the time between everything else you do. I found myself with many Wait What's, but overall I liked it so much more than When Calls the Heart. Thanks for bringing joy to my life for more than five years.

[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_04] Merry Christmas, and forgive me, Pa. P.S. I loved going back to when you started watching because I got to hear Panda on the pod again. Love all the hosts, but I definitely miss that guy, Diana Van Ness. Thank you, Diana. Rest in peace, obviously, to Panda.

[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_01] We miss you too, Panda. Very sweet.

[00:42:25] [SPEAKER_04] Shout out.

[00:42:25] [SPEAKER_01] But I still burn his family's candles every day.

[00:42:28] [SPEAKER_04] I mean, shout out to Panda Lily. That's right. I wonder if it's still a thing.

[00:42:33] [SPEAKER_03] It has to be.

[00:42:34] [SPEAKER_04] Right?

[00:42:34] [SPEAKER_01] No, wait, no, no, it is. It is. It's striking. No, I literally get them like every couple weeks. I order more Panda Lily candles.

[00:42:40] [SPEAKER_04] I have no problem.

[00:42:41] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah, that's not a bit. I love them.

[00:42:43] [SPEAKER_04] I tried to go there, and I went to Pandaily.com, and it was blocked. So I don't know what Panda is. It's blocked. I don't know what it is, but I'm not going to find out.

[00:42:50] [SPEAKER_03] You don't want to know.

[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_04] You don't want to know about it.

[00:42:52] [SPEAKER_03] Hey, let's do this again next week. How's that sound? Let's do it. I think we shall. Come on back. Until then, maybe let's first wish you a Merry Christmas.
