Elizabeth runs outside, grappling with the fact that baby Jack has diabetes. Mei is looking through papers because she recalls seeing some sort of new diabetes test that's being conducted. She finds it and brings it to Faith to see if they should contact them about baby Jack. They bring the information to Elizabeth, and she says the results thus far have been miraculous. They haven’t started taking children yet, but Frikem and Mei are going to make the case for Jack and hopefully return with some insulin.
Rosemary is setting up a meal train and is freaking out. She can’t imagine what it would be like to get this news about baby Goldie. Elizabeth gives Frikem and Mei the letter, and off they go. Meanwhile, baby Jack's pony is missing.
Lucas finds out that his approval ratings are tanking. He decides he can do whatever he wants since he's not worried about getting reelected.
The kids decide they’re going to broadcast a baseball game on the radio since little Jack is too sick to come see it. All the kids work together to relay the information and make sure it gets on the air.
Faith gets bad news – they’re not going to transfer the insulin for one trial. But if they can get 10 people, they’ll consider it. So the town works together to try to find 9 other people with diabetes. Rosemary even goes on the radio for a very special episode.
Elizabeth takes baby Jack to see Faith, who suggests that he stay there so she can keep an eye on him. They have 9 people, so Elizabeth calls and begs them to make an exception, which they do.
The medicine arrives, Jack gets his first shot, and BAM! He’s golden.
They all go to church, then head back to Elizabeth’s place. Elizabeth and Nathan snuggle and have a heart-to-heart.
[00:00:01] Hi, I'm Bran and I love When Calls the Heart. Hi, I'm Jax and I like When Calls the Heart. I'm Dan and I despise When Calls the Heart and this is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast. Deck The Hallmark gets this podcast. Friends host this podcast. We hope you like this jolly podcast. Hi everybody. Welcome. Welcome to another episode of When Calls the Heart. I just don't know how to joke here.
[00:00:37] I mean, you know what I mean? I don't know how to joke. I think you'll figure it out. You think we'll get to it? I think you'll figure it out. Hi Jax. Hi. How are you? How are you? I'm doing well. No, it is that thing where this is very serious subject matter. So I do understand. I'm feeling that same thing of like, yeah, how is it? I'm not always great during a crisis. I'll say that. Let's talk about New York. How's New York right now?
[00:01:09] Oh, New York. The weather was beautiful. Beautiful, beautiful for a couple of days. That's nice. Now it's cold, but that's fine. I've been doing some more escape rooms. You guys need to come and we need to do another one.
[00:01:21] I love some, you, you're so positive about everything and you say you love everything. And then I always forget that escape rooms are really a big part of your existence. Like when you say you love escape rooms, I always forget. I think you love them. Like most people. That's like, I love them. I've done one, one time. You love them.
[00:01:39] Tell me about the most recent one you did. Yeah. It's like, it's like a huge part of my personality. I didn't only murderers in the building. Oh my God. I would have been in on that. Really incredible. Really fun. One of the best ones that I've done. Um, it was really, really fun. Uh, you guys, when we, when I'm there for Bramble Fest, do you think, I know you guys are busy, but we did one last time. You guys didn't, but I don't know. I think we could, I think we could work it into the schedule.
[00:02:06] I, so here's what I'll tell you. I don't, I'm not going to promise us for anything because of how, what we always end up saying, yeah. And then we, we, the two of us never have time, but we've made the, the Thursday night double decker event, a, an open bar drink kickoff. So it doesn't start till 8 PM. Um, I'm not saying necessarily we could do it before that, but I'm saying if we could, it would be sometime then that would be my guess based upon.
[00:02:36] You probably want to do two back to back, right? Yeah, for sure. Well, bang for Bob, but then we got to bring you in earlier, right? We can't fly you in on Thursday afternoon. We got to bring you in earlier. And now that we're, you know, we may have a place for you to stay. That's not the hotel anyway. So I mean, we're, you know, we're maybe, maybe, maybe we're closer to it. I don't know. How is that? I heard that Scott said he could share a room with me and that he told you for you to pass it along to me. And I was like, there's no way Dan's going to pass it along to me.
[00:03:05] It got an awkward laugh from me. I did not believe it or not. I mean, you're saying it live here. I don't know who comes out looking the worst, but I do know that I did not pass that information. Wait, wait, wait, wait. You don't, you don't come out looking weird at all. Scott, I love you. And I thought it was funny. And Scott shared it with me. I don't, I think maybe I feel, maybe it seemed weird that I shared it. Sorry, Scott. I thought it was funny. I would not. But as soon as he told me, I was like, Dan is not going to pass that along to me.
[00:03:32] I did not. I didn't pass that information. Scott, I love you as well, buddy. I did not pass along that you volunteered to share a room with Jacqueline Collier. Guys, come listen to Christmas morning. But Scott, we have a jokey relationship. And Scott is also one of the most thoughtful people in the world. I don't want, I'm just saying if Scott, I wasn't passing it along. I don't know how to get out of this. I wasn't passing it along. No, no, no. I was trying to stay out of it.
[00:04:01] Scott joking about it to me was funny. The thought of Dan having to pass that along, I was like, my friend Dan is not going to pass it along to me. He didn't pass it along. That game of telephone stopped with me. Wire got cut. I didn't pass it along. Let's talk What Calls the Heart season 12 episode 11, shall we? It's called? You're going to actually share, I can't make that joke or you're going to have to edit and I'm not going to do it. What's it called? Jack's got the sugars. Uh oh. I don't think it's that. Jack's?
[00:04:31] Yeah, Sugar High. Sugar High is pretty good. It's just called Having Faith. Sugar Rush. Having Faith. Oh, was it like a double entendre with the doctor? Doctor Faith? Love it. Could be. Sorry. You okay? It's just that it's, you know how I love the metal straw and metal glass. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Great for podcasting. Great for podcasting. We are going to start it. The synopsis. The movie premiered on March 16th, 2025. I want a little something like this.
[00:04:57] Elizabeth runs outside grappling with the fact that Baby Jack has a diabetes. May is looking through papers because she recalls seeing some sort of diabetes test that is being conducted. She finds the article, brings it to Faith to see if they could contact them about Baby Jack. They bring the information to Elizabeth and she says that, you know, we don't know for sure if this is the thing, but so far the results have been miraculous.
[00:05:25] They haven't started taking children yet, but Frickham and May are going to postpone their trip to Niagara Falls. They are both so sad about it. And go in person to make the case for Baby Jack because Baby Jack's too sick. He can't make the trip himself. And hopefully they are going to return with some insulin. Rosemary is setting up a meal train, mealtrain.com, and is freaking out. She's trying to get all the meals ready for Elizabeth. It's going to be a whole thing.
[00:05:56] And all she can think about is what it would be like if her child, Goldie, had the diabetes. Elizabeth gives Frickham and May the letter and off they go. Meanwhile, Baby Jack's pony is missing. That's a tough break for that kid. That's a one-two punch. That's a one-two punch. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. You have a deathly disease and your pony is missing. Do they find the pony? I believe they do find the pony.
[00:06:25] I don't think I'd write that down. Lucas finds out. She knew I had it, if you can believe it. I'm doing my best here. Bye-bye, little. There's got to be jokes. Bye-bye, little Sebastian. Lucas finds out that his approval ratings are tanking. Why? He decides that because of the whole executive orders. People don't like executive orders. He decides since they're already tanking, he might as well just do whatever he wants to because he's not worried about getting reelected.
[00:06:52] The kids decide that they're going to broadcast a baseball game on the radio for Baby Jack to listen to since Baby Jack is too sick to come and see it himself. All the kids work together to relay the information about what's going on on the field and make sure that it gets on to the airwaves. Faith gets some bad news. They are not going to transfer the insulin for one singular trial. Ten? Maybe we'll talk. So they've got to get ten people on board with insulin that are willing to do this new test.
[00:07:22] So the town works together to try to find nine people with the diabetes. Rosemary even goes on the radio for a very special episode, the more you know. We have a lot of fun here at OnCosal Heart. Yes. Elizabeth takes Baby Jack to see Faith, who suggests that he should stay there so that she can monitor him. They fight eight people, so they're up to nine.
[00:07:47] One of those has a twin who they think if, you know, maybe they'll see their twin doing the drugs and they'll want to get on board. So Elizabeth calls and begs the doctors to make an exception, which they do. The medicine arrives. Jack gets his first shot. And bam! Bam! The boy is back. He's golden. They all go to church for an animal blessing.
[00:08:16] Which is normal. It's a normal thing. And they bring his pony, so the pony's fine. And they head back to Elizabeth's place. Elizabeth and Nathan then snuggle and have a heart to hearts. And that, my friends, was... When calls a heart, season 12, episode 11. You got to have faith. Faith. Faith. Faith. We did it. Let's take a quick break. We'll come back. We'll break this episode down here on... Deck the Hallmark.
[00:08:50] Hi, everybody. Welcome back. We're talking about When Calls the Heart, season 12, episode 11, the penultimate episode of season 12. Having faith. Let's break it down. I think we're going to start with a hot take. That's where we share our thoughts on this episode. I'll start with you, Jax. Jax, what'd you think? Look, Erin Krakow is a fantastic actress. And, you know, Juilliard trained. There's so much that she can do and so much that she has done.
[00:09:14] And, look, this episode, for me, was really wonderful because I got to see a master class in acting of her just breaking herself open, showing her vulnerabilities, and getting to see her do her thing. Now, were there problems story-wise with this? Sure, that it was all wrapped up so fast. So many things like that.
[00:09:40] But I also think we had a lot of really great moments with them as a family, with Kevin McGarry, some of the work that he got to do. So, for me, as someone who likes watching good acting, this episode was enjoyable to me. There are plenty of things to say in the breakdown of that, but that is my hot take. It's that the acting in this episode was really, really solid, and I enjoyed that. I got what I thought I would get out of this episode. Okay. All right.
[00:10:07] Last week, I thought I was being a little bit facetious with my hot take last week. I don't know if that came through. This week, I agree with Jax. I thought, were they a bit cavalier in the way in which they dealt with this in the time in which they were dealing with it? Yes. Yes, they were.
[00:10:27] But as far as performances go and the episode moving along and there being things that actually tugged at my heartstrings, yes, there were things. And I thought that overall, the episode did what you want it to do in an episode of When Calls to Heart. I don't think that there's going to be any Hardys that have any problems with this episode. I think this is going to be a home run and that they'll hear about it on the radio with a slight delay.
[00:10:54] And so overall, as far as storylines go where a kid gets diabetes and gets cured really quickly, it's good. Dan? Yeah, there are some things that always work to the fan base that they're geared toward. I mean, like, I think, you know, Hallmark movies always have a kiss at the end. I think some people watch the movies knowing it's going to end happily.
[00:11:20] No one is pulling against the 42-minute bottle episode where a child gets mortally ill and then gets a full recovery, right? Like, is it crazy? Yeah, it's crazy. Is it cavalier to Bran's point and vocabulary? Yes. Yes, it's cavalier. But this stuff is why we're human.
[00:11:43] Like, all of us, you know, have seen a movie that worked for, have children, have nieces, nephews, know someone's children. Like, it's impossible to look at this episode, which has no business being the 11th episode of season 12. It's very emotionally manipulative. But it's impossible to look at it and be like, this is terrible. Because what would we want to see, right?
[00:12:09] Like, this is the best possible outcome for this episode. I mean, like, even Bran said it. And I don't want to take your feels, but like, this stuff that's all been done before, it works. There's a reason they always do it. You put the metal in the kid's hand. That's going to work, guys. That's going to work. There's like, it doesn't matter how many times you see. Are you good, Jax? Are you all right over there, Jax? Oh, sorry. No, that was, it was just a big feel for me.
[00:12:37] I realized that sound didn't sound like what it was supposed to sound. That I, when I was watching, I keened, I lamented it. You know how mics work, right? Of course, yeah. Like, you know about microphones? Sorry, I forgot that I was not on the mic. It's just a metal straw. It's a metal straw. It was a metal straw. I've been muting when I'm not talking so I can drink my smoothie. And I forgot that I was unmuted. Sorry. Sorry. But like, you, like these scenes, like, you know, like, to, to, Brandon, I always argue
[00:13:06] about a movie called, not always, but we talk about a movie from time to time called John Q, which is a movie about where Denzel Washington basically holds a hospital hostage until they give his kid a heart transplant. Let's go. It is the most expertly acted piece of trash movie of all time. She's so good. And Brandon's like, no, that movie is awesome. And I think we both get to our, our opinion through the same pipeline, which is this, this stuff always works.
[00:13:35] And so I don't know, like I knew what was happening this week, last week. And the fact that he's just good at the end of this episode is crazy. Crazy, but yeah, Aaron Craiko is on our A game. So home run from Aaron Craiko, uh, you know, the, the, the, the, the metal in the kid's hand, like that stuff isn't going to, we're human beings. Like that stuff works because we all are wanting that completion and wholeness in our life. I'm not trying to preach to anybody.
[00:14:02] I'm just saying that like, you're not going to go wrong there. I just, you know, I'm glad it's done. How about that? Uh, it's time for all the fields. We're talking about what gave us those fields. Uh, Jax, if you can, you know, put your thoughts together with words and not just sounds. What'd you, uh, what'd you get for the fields?
[00:14:23] So as was revealed, um, when Nathan puts the metal into little Jack's hand really, really took me out. Uh, and of course, like you said, it works, but also like it was done with such tenderness and with the story behind it that we know that that's his dad's metal and that's what made him brave for school. But then he also gave it to, to little Lily. Um, well, what would have made that seem better? You know how it's been in that little case. Yeah.
[00:14:51] What if there was like a little hammer that just said break in case of emergency and you see her with a little hammer going to get the metal out? Maybe, uh, maybe Lily comes and steals it. I still need it. It's still mine. No takesies backsies. Well, actually now that you're, now that you're saying that, uh, and I miss Lily, if she would have come in and she would have handed it, put it in little Jack's hand and said, you need this now. Yeah. That would have been, you need this more than I do. That's good. We need this more than I do. Oh. Oh, okay.
[00:15:20] So that's, there we go. Cause I love that little girl. Where is she? Um, I thought that this was really incredible. And I had so many feels about the community coming together for little Jack, especially seeing the kids come together. And even the guilt that, you know, some of these boys were feeling because they were supposed to be watching him, even though all of this wasn't his fault.
[00:15:44] Um, it, the scene with Nathan and Bill, when Nathan's talking about, he can't stop the bad guy. He can't stop the hurt. You know, the whole reason he came to Hope Valley was to protect and to look after Elizabeth and little Jack. Um, and then also the scene that this also really got me, the scene with Minnie and Rosemary, where Minnie is saying, you know, this, how you get through it.
[00:16:12] You look at, you look at the ground at your feet, not at the top of the mountain. And I just really love that sometimes when there's chaos, it's like, be where your feet are. You can only think about what's happening right now because you can't think too far ahead because it's devastating. So I thought that, that there was so many beautiful moments in this episode that culminated in everyone being at Jack's bedside and just getting to see like a lot of great acting from
[00:16:40] these actors who don't always get utilized in the way that I can imagine is fulfilling for them because they're all really, really good. Uh, yeah. Everything that Jack said is, is absolutely correct. And it's tough because this show is at its best when the town is rallying around something and like something bad is going on in the town. You don't want to wish for tragedy. No. And it's like, you could only have so much bad happen to the same, to the same people.
[00:17:05] And so I get that they can't, they can't almost kill a kid every season, but like, let's see what we're like. Maybe we can do a couple of kids next year and just got to see what happens. Uh, Robert, for instance. Robert. Let's maybe like, let's, it's time for top five kids. We'd love to see die on the wind goes to heart or, or, or come close to it and then rally through. It's a long, we'll assure the diss list there, but. Do you think we'd have the same emotional investment in making sure Robert was okay? No.
[00:17:35] No. Oh no. The train got derailed. Oh, dang it. No. He's not going to make it. I love you, Robert. And you're here. Love you, Robert. Yeah. That's, that's the, that's the holdup though with the show is that this is clearly the best that this show is, is when stuff like this is happening and say, well, you can only do it so much. So you're in a tough spot, Dan. Um, I do have feels in this episode and it is, I say a lot of terrible things about when calls the heart, but, uh, what I love of the last four or five seasons of when calls the
[00:18:03] heart especially is they tend to sneak some great democratic socialism and progressivism into their shows. Um, and they're, they're, they're kind of like secretly feeding this to a very conservative audience. And I do love that. How about a pastor that doesn't preach from a specific scripture verse, but tells you that it's your job to protect the most vulnerable. Great. How about the fact that no one, not one time in this episode goes, but how much does the insulin cost?
[00:18:32] No one says it. No one, no one asks, no one goes, but how are we going to get it? No one, they just find someone who need, who's sick, not from their own doing just because it's unfortunate and bad things happen. And we, we try to live through them and they don't ask how much it costs. They don't talk about the difficulties of getting, they just do it. They just do. They just give people the thing that saves their life and they don't talk about it.
[00:19:02] That that's awesome. Okay. And, and, and that is typically just a bar for living that I expect people to, to clear. But for when calls the heart to do that, I think it's a big deal and they should, they should be applauded. So good for them. Yeah. Just to agree with you on that, Dan, I love how they even said this phrase in the episode talking about noble goals smacked into political reality. And it's like, okay, when call the heart, I see you. We see you.
[00:19:28] As a long time West Wing stan, Jax, Jax is here for it. Gosh. Gotta rewatch that show. Bartlett for America. Bartlett for America. Let's take a break. You know he would have won, right? Oh, he would have totally won. So he actually would have won. Sorry. Let's just give it a shot. Let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll get to the way. What? What in the hopes and valleys. You're on deck the hallmark. Hi, everybody.
[00:19:59] Hopefully you're doing well. I know I am. You got it. It's time for the wait what. It's where we're talking about what in this episode made us go away what. I'll start with you, Jax. I love how in this little radio hour they're doing how Angela is carrying this thing on her back. Like these hosts don't know what they're doing, but she's like, okay, I'll give you some music. I'll play it. I'll like do the ball sound. Like good Lord woman. Like she had to do everything. Put her on the mic. Was that? Put her on the mic. Put her on the mic.
[00:20:29] Exactly. Put her on. But she's probably like, no, let them try to do whatever they're doing. I love how in this scene, the adults, the popcorn went everywhere. I'm like, who's going to clean that up? But it did feel like everyone was in a little bit. And I understand this when you're in a time of crisis. Everyone felt like they were a little bit manic and watching that was sort of, it was fun, but it was also like, what's going on here?
[00:20:53] Um, I also in the beginning when Rosemary was very flustered, did she call Allie Emily? And was that because she was so flustered or was that just a weird mistake? Like the previous episode, uh, with the writing and the, and the, the, the, the, the nuts, the, the, the hazelnuts. And it sounded like in the beginning of this episode when Allie came in and Rosemary was like, Oh, okay, Emily.
[00:21:22] I didn't, I didn't, I didn't know if that was, it seemed like she was doing it to show that she was flustered. But then I was like, wait, or was that just, I just was, I, it made me go, wait, what? I was just fair, but maybe, maybe I just heard it and it wasn't there. Other than that, like. It's tough. It's a tough, wait, what episode? It was, yes. And again, yes, this has been, he is okay pretty much immediately with the insulin, but I'm okay with that.
[00:21:50] But the other, I think the final one is the fact that like, um, Hickam and Maysu, I love that they get to be the heroes. They're the unexpected heroes. On some heroes. Hickam and Maysu. Something else to keep them from going back to that bedroom. You know what I mean? Exactly right. That's exactly right. We'll drive. We'll do it. Together. Pick us, pick us. Yeah. We got nothing on the calendar. Y'all, I gotta be honest with you.
[00:22:16] Uh, if I were to make a list of everyone in town and be like, who do you least want to be in charge of bringing the letter to the people about the insulin? Frickam would be at the bottom of the list. Robert's at the bottom. Frickam right above him. That's right. And why? You might be wondering. Watch the rest of this season. The Frickam has become, and we've talked about it, some sort of bumbling, like he's like, uh, Eric and Boy Meets World in the later seasons where it's just like, he doesn't,
[00:22:46] they're just like, you're just there to be dumb and bumble around and say funny things. And then for some reason, Frickam, Elizabeth's like, here you go, Frickam, here's the most important piece of mail I've ever had. Uh, take care of this. And he puts it in his coat pocket. If there's one thing I've learned this season is that he's going to misplace his coat. Yeah. So like, where is it? We don't get any of that. But that's that you can't do this whole thing all season where Frickam's this dummy and then also give him the most important piece of mail and not expect him to be like,
[00:23:16] that guy's going to lose it. Uh, call me crazy. Uh, two, uh, Lee, who is the busiest man in town running so many businesses has the time and the day to go and watch a, uh, live radio broadcast of children playing baseball. Uh, the guy's like, he's doing, he's so busy, he's so busy, but he's like, I got it. Everybody else is still doing their stuff. But, uh, our guy Lee over there is like, I got the time. I got the time. I got nothing to do all day. Um, can the mic not pick up Allie?
[00:23:46] Like when Allie runs in and it's like, it's a hat. Does the mic, I know, I don't, I know mics have evolved a lot over there, but you would think that if somebody is yelling that it would pick it up, that it would pick it up. But I don't know. Uh, who's Timmy? I don't know, but he's good at baseball. And last but not least, I've, I've gone to, uh, church my entire life and I'm, I'm just now finding out that there's churches that do animal dedication services. And if somebody in Greenville could let me know where that, where the church is in this
[00:24:14] area, uh, I just want to go. I just want to enjoy the animal blessing. Is that not a big thing? It's a big thing in New York. Yeah, it's a Northern thing. I read all about it because Aaron had heard of it and we had not heard of it. I've never in my life heard of such a thing. Sounds amazing. It sounds like something. Bless them animals. It sounds like something people who aren't farmers do. That's what it sounds like. You know, so there's that. Uh, Dan, um, I will say that the personification of the idea, it's the thought that counts is
[00:24:43] this dumb baseball radio thing. Uh, I, what a kind thought for Jack to hear baseball on the radio. What they did wasn't that, um, there were so many better ways to pick up a kid's spirits than what happened in this program. There is a giant, you could have made a home plate, the front steps of Elizabeth and Jack's house. There's literally a giant field in front of their house.
[00:25:12] Like you could have played baseball where he could have watched out the window. There's so many things you could have done that weren't a game of telephone baseball. Uh, I, I just can't imagine him getting any actual joy out of it. And I, I think it's a better thought than anything else. Um, my big one of this episode is, is wherever May Sue and Hickam are going that has this medicine is under a day's drive away. Yes. Yes. Yes. They get there. They call the same day. Yeah.
[00:25:42] Correct. Jack's. Yes. Okay. Uh, baby Jack is not hooked up to an IV. It's 1921. Faith is monitoring him in a bed. Why can't you take this kid to where the medicine is? So I understand you have to have insulin regularly as a diabetic. I understand that, but we're trying to save a kid's life who could go into a diabetic coma and die. Why not take him to the facility?
[00:26:12] If the whole thing is, is we're not going to ship one, one dose out there, take him, find the 10 people at your leisure while he's getting his insulin daily there, save his life and then get him set up back home. What? Yeah, that was, that was confusing for me too, because at first, and I think now, because how lucky we are to live in a time where diabetes is more manageable, even though still scary, I think I didn't, didn't really hit the severity of it for me.
[00:26:41] Uh, and when it was like, oh, he's too, not well enough to travel or too tired. I was like, yeah, he should rest if there's no crazy timeline, but there was a, there was a crazy timeline. And that's what I didn't understand. Yeah. I didn't know if it was like, uh, like if you're on a train and you shake a lot, it could goof. I just, I just knew like, I just kept all episode going. Why aren't they putting this kid in this car and taking him immediately? Um, I got, I got two more.
[00:27:08] Uh, one Rosemary gets on the radio and she says this exact line. If you are someone, she doesn't say this exact line. This is a paraphrase, but this is what she says. If you are someone, you know, has diabetes, please call our local saloon. Uh, she, she does not say we have a very serious thing where we can cure your diabetes or at least manage it. Call the doctor's office. She tells people if they have diabetes, there's a possible cure.
[00:27:36] If you call a local pub, that is what she says. Can you imagine anyone hearing that and going, I need to call this bar. The cure is dark liquor. I need to call this saloon who is an answering service for the, can we net Fiona? Can we not get a second phone line up in the, in the infirmary? Can we not do that? The thing is, is if you remember our guy, Lee has a phone line anywhere he is. Yes. Like he had a phone line run to his office.
[00:28:06] Yeah. Just bloop. I don't know how it is, but bloop. Or call the newspaper. Call the newspaper. That's more legit than call the bar. Call the bar. Call, call, call the saloon. That'll be good for you. Hardly in this episode. He has one scene and it seems like the biggest offense to team Lucas people of all time. Maybe the best chemistry on this show was Lucas and baby Jack. And those scenes, buddy, we thank you, baby Jack.
[00:28:35] Like Lucas, you know, doing like he, the way he interacted with baby Jack was amazing. And if anyone would be at the front of the line to be a part of this communal aid, like, or, or the guy that drives to get this medicine. Or the guy that sits in the hospital unwaveringly or whatever, it would be this guy. And I, I thought that was really bad. Dan, this, this really bummed me out.
[00:29:04] I feel like I understand that you want to establish that Nathan is now the father figure. And I respect that wholeheartedly, but I think that some of the beautiful things that we see, like even, even in life now with blended families or with showing how kids, it's not just their parents that care about them. And how there are all these other relationships and community and connection. I thought it was a real bummer that his buddy wasn't there to support with it. Yeah, it was really brutal. Yeah. I think there's a way they could have done it easily. Yeah. Same.
[00:29:33] And that wouldn't even, that wouldn't even really enter. Cause we see the way, you know, faith is there and Rosemary's there and Minnie's there. Like it didn't have to be as a father figure. It could be as someone who loves him very much. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you know, the, the governor. Exactly. You know, the governor. There is that. And the governor calls, it calls him buddy. And let's not get governor involved. You can't, there's nothing he can do. It's time for hopes and values.
[00:30:01] We were talking about what in this episode made us go yay for the future or, oh man, for the future. Jax. Um, I guess the yay is that it does seem like they might, that Elizabeth and Nathan might be getting engaged next episode because, um, you know, he's talking about being together forever. And it's really setting us up nicely for this. They've gotten through so much together as a couple and as a family. So yay for that.
[00:30:30] The bumming me out is like, I kind of got to the end of this one. And even though I enjoyed this episode and I thought there was just so, so many good acting moments and getting to see the town come together is, is beautiful. As we've all agreed, it's when the show is at its best. I am kind of left going, what's going to happen in this 12th episode?
[00:30:53] And I don't think things are really going to get, yeah, there are just so many threads that they pulled that aren't going to get resolved. And I just don't really know what it's going to feel like after they wrap this up. Are we assuming that the salmon storyline was resolved because McGinty now? I think so. Okay. I mean, I would assume so. And Ava's gone with no ties. Glad we spent six episodes on salmon. Yeah. I, uh, listen, if I, my hope is that they, uh, get engaged next week and that's it.
[00:31:22] If they don't, if they don't end this season with a proposal, I will be mad. I'll be mad. Uh, because we just, we, it's, it's right. We're ready. We're ready. And it's time. Dan. Yeah. It's all, we're going to get a proposal next episode. We have to, right? If we don't, this season, which already ranks for me, if not the worst season, probably a bottom two or three season of this television program. Thank you, Brian. Uh, if there's no proposal, it will rank as the worst.
[00:31:52] Bar none. Uh, there has to be, I don't know what else is left to do. Uh, and we've not, the train robbery case, we picked up no steam there. No pun intended. Uh, we, uh, we didn't get really anything with the farming in the park that we cared about one iota. The salmon was stupid. The baby Jack thing was overwrought. I need, this has to matter. And it, it, it, it has to have. So, and even with the proposal, I think it's a bottom three season, but without the proposal is the worst by a mile. So, yeah. Not a lot of hopes.
[00:32:22] And also, sorry, just one more question. I totally forgot. What about the, the kid who Allie was also kind of into. She hasn't been there in forever. Nah, he took off. And just so many loose threads that they started and didn't finish. It's just, I don't know. I'm confused. Yeah. Uh, well, we did it. Everybody, congratulations. It's time for What's Calling My Heart. It's where we, uh, read an email that's been sent to hello at deckthelmer.com about something that's calling your heart. Dan, who do we have today? You got it, Bran. We have Beth Ann Smith. Yay.
[00:32:51] Who's emailing us. Please email us. Hello at deckthelmer.com. Email us. Hey, Jax, Dan, and Bran. What's Calling My Heart is the fact that after years of hearing me talk about my deep love and adoration for Deck the Hallmark and the Double Decker community, my husband is finally starting to dip his toe into the water. I brought him to the deckies in January, and he had so much fun hanging out with everyone and spending time with my friends. Last week, he made a two peppermint mochas joke, and I thought my heart would burst with love. He's going to tag along to Greenville in July when I come to Bramble Fest.
[00:33:21] And while I haven't convinced him to actually attend all of the events, he said he does want to spend time with everyone again, and I'm hoping I'll turn him into a true convert yet. Thanks to the three of you for helping me make a group I love somewhere he can feel loved to. Love you guys so much. Beth Ann. How about that? That's a great email from Beth Ann. How about that? And Matt is great. Matt was awesome. Shout out. Shout out to Matt. I love that he made a two peppermint mochas joke. Right? Look at that. Look at you. I bet it's good for their relationship.
[00:33:51] It probably makes things spicier. All right. Well, now I got really, really weird. Thank you so much for that, Jax. Yeah. Beth Ann knows. Yeah. Beth Ann knows. We're going to stop it there. We're going to be done. And then we'll be back next week for the season finale. Season finale. Come on back. Until then, Merry Christmas.
